Key companies and commentators on the new economy have identified play as a crucial aspect of entrepreneurship and commercial innovation. We will argue that play and place are inseparable in these discourses: from places such as Google’s headquaters (HQ) – the Googleplex, with its ball pits and slides – to schemes and practices such as LEGO Serious Play, children’s play and sites of play are taken as the model for, and wellspring of, imagination and creativity, modes and spaces of thinking and experimentation that can invigorate and innovate the adult worlds of cultural and technological production. Taking as case studies Google’s reimagining of cultural practices of play, and LEGO Serious Play’s deployment of playful experimentation for corporate/therapeutic ends, this article argues that to understand the possibilities of playful working places, it is necessary to question the generally uncritical assumptions about the character and potential of play itself that underpin these initiatives.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide empirical evidence regarding the springboard regionalization strategy implemented by multinationals entering Latin America and the organizational networks developed to serve this end. Design/methodology/approach Using the organizational network approach, a typology is developed to explain the Springboard network. Quantitative analysis is used, in the form of logistic binary regression, to study these networks composition. Findings From a sample of 154 subsidiaries extracted from the AMADEUS intelligent database, three categories for multinational’s networks are created, with the Spanish subsidiary acting as the leader: strategic centers (SCs), administrative centers (ACs) and regional headquaters (RHQs). Findings provide evidence of cultural features, industry behavior and the multinational’s size and entry mode influence these networks organization. Research limitations/implications It is proposed that culture and historical ties have evolved together and management scholars should be aware of this phenomenon. Specific limitation that this study exhibits is the data provided by AMADEUS and the fact that R&D information for both the Spanish and the Latin American subsidiary were not available. Practical implications Staffing composition and expatriate corporate policy should consider the springboard effect to manage springboard networks. Social implications Industries and authorities in all countries involved should be aware of their role in MNC strategies for regional expansion. Originality/value It is argued that a network of subsidiaries within the multinational can participation in the springboard behavior, which is determined by the culture that the multinational originates from, as well as the Spanish culture, creating a particular type of leadership.

As part of a long-term road map for the development and operation of the human rights impact assessment system in Seoul, this study was conducted for field assessments of human rights impact assessments on educational facilities among architectural facility assets owned by Seoul city government. In order to derive operational conditions and problems based on the Human Rights Impact Assessment Checklist of Seoul, 11 educational facilities among the assets owned by Seoul city government were pre-invested, and finally, Gocheoc Public Library, Seoul Institute of Technology and Education, Seoul Open City University Headquater, Yongsan Public Library, on-site evaluation was conducted for 4 facilities. As a result of this study, educational facilities were generally highly evaluated in terms of the right to access and the right to move. In terms of the right of mobility, it was confirmed that the efforts of individual institutions to strengthen the right of mobility while reinforcing functions such as remodeling had a greater impact than the early time of building construction. In terms of the right of access to information other than the right of access and mobility, the characteristics of educational facilities were relatively good. In terms of environmental rights, there was a large gap between facilities, and it was confirmed that they were greatly affected by the year of establishment and the initial design. The right to participate was transferred to the entrusted institution in a state where it was hardly reflected in the initial design stage and was evaluated low. Overall, the most serious human rights field was the right to rest, and both facility users and employees were vulnerable.

Offshore companies represent a key-link of the current operations of the multinationals, banking institutions and, even, of the small and medium enterprises (SME) and are able to perform complicated tasks in a special business environment. These jurisdictional entities offer, mainly, fiscal benefits, comparative with other types of jurisdictional entities. The advantages are targeting the enterprises or companies which establish their social headquater, or to individuals who are resident in these territories. The final scope is represented by attracting the expanding companies, by attracting capital and stimulating the rise of the necessary activities to ensure economic and social balance, so desirable in the economic games of win-win type. Therefore, we are in the presence of fine plaition of micro approach with macroeconomic one. On the first side, the desire of transnationals to obtain profits with less efforts and investments and, on the other hand, globalization (influenced by these entities) pursuit the shrinkage of all markets and businesses all around the world, inclusive using the offshores centers (or ,,fiscal paradises”). These institutions of free market are actioning both on the developed and developing countries. The last ones are affected by the imposibility of tax collect to the national budget and in the infrastructure investments. At the same time, using offshore companies in offshore zones, the multinationals gain neloial competitive advantages over the other companies, unable to spread theirs economic power and influence. We may speak about a sound offshore industry , which has turned into global business and range of activities. We try to underline the importance of the general development process in the actual world and, first of all, the direct connection beteen investments and offshore activities, in the benefit of either parties. It is an organic liaison between investments and offshore entities, including transitional hard developing countries as Romania.

After the Second World War, a large number of members of the fascist regime of the Kingdom of Albania found refuge in Italy, Turkey and the countries of Western Europe, where they continued to politically act. The leading political options in exile - Balli Kombetar, Zogists and pro-Italian National Independent Bloc, decided to cooperate with each other, so they have formed the Albanian National Committee in 1946. The turning point for the Albanian extreme emigration in the West is Operation Valuable, by which the United States and Great Britain sought to overthrow the Communist regime of Enver Hoxha in Albania. Although the operation failed, strong ties were forged between US and British intelligence and Albanian nacionalist emigration, which were further intensified in the 1960s. Xhafer Deva, who was dedicated to act on the annexation of Kosovo and Metohija to Albania, immigrated to the United States in 1956 and established cooperation with the CIA. Albanian emigration in the West applied different methods in politics towards Kosovo and Metohija. Some organizations, such as Xhafer Deva's Third Prizren League, have focused on lobbying Western intelligence. The Bali Kombetar Independent, headquatered in Rome, paid particular attention to working with Albanian high school and student youth in Kosovo and Metohija. The Alliance of Kosovo, formed in 1949, was engaged in subtle methods of involving Albanian nationalists in Yugoslav state structures, the League of Communists of Yugoslavia, the Yugoslav People's Army, and educational and health institutions in Kosovo and Metohija. Albanian emigration was also involved in violent demonstrations in Kosovo and Metohija in 1968, and cooperated on this issue with the Communist regime of Enver Hoxha in Albania.

Abstract. Bakari MS, Abdallah JM, Hella JP. 2018. Adaptation strategies of small-scale agriculture production to climate change impacts in Micheweni, Tanzania. Trop Drylands 3: 60-75. The impacts of climate change in the form of prolonged drought, low rainfall, increasing temperature and sea level rise are predicted to affect developing nations especially in the dryland region such as in Africa. This study was conducted in three Shehias within Micheweni district, Pemba, Tanzania to assess the extent of climate change impacts and crop yields. Specifically, the study aimed to identify and assess climate change impacts to small scale farmers, assess the link between precipitation, temperature, sea-level rise, crop/fish production, identify and assess climate change adaptation strategies by small-scale farmers in the District. Primary data were obtained through focus group discussions, key informants, and households. Household questionnaires and checklists were used to collect both qualitative and quantitative data to obtain information from respondents. In each Shehia, a sample of 30 households was randomly selected from the register for household interviews. Climate data were obtained from Pemba Meteorological Headquater at Chake Chake Airport and the Matangatuani station. Secondary data were extracted from literature review. Data analysis was done using Excel (to get descriptive statistics), Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), correlation analysis and content analysis methods. The trend of climate measured for the last 30 years showed decreasing precipitation and increased temperatures. The highest annual average rainfall was 196.2 mm (1986) and the lowest 72.5 mm (2001) measured at the Matangatuani Meteorological station. Crop failure, low crop production, soil infertility, crop pests/diseases and seawater intrusion were major climate change impacts. Results indicated annual decrease in crop production in the past 10 years, with pests and diseases, uneven distributed low rainfall and extended drought periods. Crop rotation, use of improved seeds and new crop varieties, fertilizer application, irrigation, mixed cropping, and adjusting sowing dates were some of adaptation strategies. Seawater rise and intrusion constrained paddy farm production where fish and salt farming contributed to environmental degradation in farming areas. The decrease in crop production resulted mostly from climate variations; hence community should establish short-term and drought-resistant crops.
