School is animportant arena for the promoting of health among youth, primarily from a healthpromoting perspective and a proactive perspective. A holistic approach has gatheredsome ground in the policy documents for the nine year compulsory school in Sweden, butin what way, and what effect does it have on the governing authorities and on schoollevel?The aim of the study is to investigate the coherence between national, municipal andlocal levels regarding the view on health among pupils. In order to do this, the guidelinesfor pupil health in the municipality of Örebro and operational plans for seven F9 schoolsin the municipality of Örebro will be studied and compared to the government bill”Health, learning and sense of security”. In order to obtain a theoretical understanding ofthe course of events between the different organizational levels, intervention theory hasbeen used as an explanatory model.Through analysis of the municipal guidelines for youth and pupil health, shows that thedocument very much resembles the government bill, which becomes apparent through thesame abstract formulations used. The content of the operational plans, particularly thequestion of preventing ill-health, therefore generally stays on an abstract level as well.Consequently, no concrete measures are taken on school level.From what the government bill emphasizes, the strongest reflection in the operationalplans is the point of quality control in the pupil health work and the participation ofparents. The operational plans are influenced by documents that describe how the pupilhealth work is to be organized, but there is still no policy document available for pupilhealth on local school level that includes health promoting and preventive measures. Thusthe schools lack the tools needed to tackle ill-health from a holistic point of view.However, several measures are available when it comes to reactive measures such asbullying and abusive behaviour.
Det finns ett behov av en utvidgad syn på elevhälsa som uppmärksammar fler aspekter avhälsa. Skolan är en viktig arena för arbetet med barn och ungdomars hälsa, inte minstutifrån ett hälsofrämjande och förebyggande perspektiv. I de dokument som styr skolanhar ett helhetsperspektiv på elevers hälsa fått ett allt större utrymme men på vilket sättoch vad innebär det, från de styrande organen för skolan och ner till personalen som skabemöta eleverna?Syftet med studien är att undersöka överensstämmelsen mellan en nationell och enkommunal och en lokal nivå vad gäller elevhälsa. Konkret innebär det att granska Örebrokommuns riktlinjer för barn- och elevhälsa och sju verksamhetsplaner för F9-skolor iÖrebro kommun utifrån regeringspropositionen ”Hälsa, lärande och trygghet”. För att fåen sammanhängande teoretisk beskrivning av skeendet mellan de olika organisatoriskanivåerna har en interventionsteori används som förklaringsmodell.Det som framkommit genom analys av det kommunala dokumentet är att det i stort ärväldigt likt propositionen, vilket bland annat innebär att det som formulerats i abstraktaordalag i propositionen sällan formuleras mer konkret i kommunens riktlinjer. Det somblir skrivet i verksamhetsplanerna, i synnerhet det som rör att förebygga psykisk ohälsa,blir därför också i vissa fall bara till abstrakta målformuleringar som aldrig tar form ikonkreta åtgärder eller insatser.Det som starkast avspeglas i verksamhetsplanerna utifrån det som framhålls ipropositionen är vikten av att kvalitetssäkra elevhälsoarbetet och att arbeta med eleversoch föräldrars delaktighet. Till stor del formas verksamhetsplanerna utifrån dokumentsom konkret beskriver hur arbetet med elevhälsa ska bedrivas, dock finns det inte någotelevhälsodokument på lokal nivå som generellt beskriver ett förebyggande ochhälsofrämjande arbete. Således har skolorna få verktyg för att angripa ohälsa ur etthelhetsperspektiv. Däremot finns det ett flertal specifika åtgärder till redan befintligproblematik, likt mobbning och kränkande behandling.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleMulticultural health and medical care has increased in Sweden during the last few years due to war in Syria and unrest in other countries among others in the Middle East and in Afghanistan. This has led to human tragedies and big streams of refugees. Sweden has received a large number of these refugees. This poses new demands on district nurses who at an early stage meet the refugees. The purpose of the study was to describe district nurses experience of health promoting and preventive care of newly arrived refugees from a perspective of the care centre. Method: A qualitative interview study with seven district nurses from different care centres within a region in West Sweden. The material was analysed with a qualitative analysis of content. Result: The analysis resulted in eight subthemes and four themes. Main themes were: The importance of self-care in order to promote health, Preventive work from a perspective of the care centre, To communicate through a third party and Co-ordination between parties. Conclusion: District nurses health promoting and preventive care was important for newly arrived refugees as the district nurse was one of the professionals they met at an early stage. Advice on self-care characterized the health promoting work with newly arrived refugees but could be difficult, as many refugees were used always to meet a doctor in their home countries. Characteristic for the preventive work was above all the follow-up of vaccinations, which required big and demanding efforts for district nurses.

Malmö University: Faculty of Health and Society, Department of Care Science, 2020.Background: The number of newly arrived elementary school students arriving from other countries has increased in recent years in Sweden. It is not uncommon that these students arrive suffering from health-related issues necessitating frequent meetings with school nurses. Aim: To illustrate how school nurses experience their health promotion and prevention work with a focus on newly arrived students aged 6 - 16 years. Methods: A qualitative interview study was conducted. A total of ten school nurses were interviewed with the help of a semi-structured interview guide. Analysis of interviews was performed using qualitative content analysis as described by Graneheim and Lundman. Results: The analysis led to four categories and seven subcategories; the four categories were: the language barrier leads to communication difficulties, to feel valued as a school nurse, Time-consuming to support newly arrived students, Cultural awareness as a prerequisite, and seven subcategories.Conclusions: Increased staffing, the collaboration between different skills and improved interpretation quality were identified as interventions that may benefit both school nurses and the newly arrived students and their families.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe aim of this study was to investigate how school counsellors in Stockholm experienced their work conditions and their own abilities to work with mental health prevention and health promotion among young students. The study was conducted trough nine qualitative interviews with school counsellors at nine upper secondary schools, in the Stockholm area. To analyze the empirical data, we have used parts of Lipskys (2010) theory about “street level-bureacrats” and their discretion, and Abrahamssons (2000) theory about organization. The results showed different conditions and abilities among the interviewees for working with prevention and health promotion projects among young students. Our results also showed that the Swedish Education Act and school counsellors job descriptions was vaguely defined regarding the prevention and health promotion projects. Througout the interviews, the school counsellors expressed a desire to work more with group projects, which was also their definition of prevention and health promotion. The results also showed an inconsistency between the school counsellors ambitions and the way they currently carry out their work. In the conclusion we discuss how the school counsellors feel about being the only employee that works with social work, in organisations that primarily focus on achievements.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground: Pupil health team (PHT) is an essential resource for pupils' learning, development and health. Consensus on health promotion, prevention and remedial perspectives is of importance to the pupils. Purpose: To investigate how the PHT professions perceive the health promotion, prevention and remedial task. Method: Focus group interviews were conducted during February and March 2019 with school psychologists, school nurses, school counsellors and teachers with special educational competence. Through qualitative content analysis with deductive approach, the material was analyzed. Result: Five categories and seven subcategories distributed under three domains, health promotion, preventive and remedial perspectives emerged from the analysis. The result showed both similarities and differences in how the professions perceived the PHT mission from the health promotion, prevention and remedial perspective. The perceptions were often based on the profession-specific assignment, but sometimes they touched on each other's assignments. Conclusion: Both similarities and differences existed in how PHT professionals perceived the health promotion, prevention and remedial work. The profession of PHT needs to strive for consensus on the different perspectives, which can give the PHT a holistic view of the work to support the pupil against health and learning.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground: Stress is growing problem for children in Sweden. Mental illness increases and student’s health shows a growth of headache and stomach pain. The school nurse meets these children at school and can, based on these meetings, work on health promotion and prevention with stress in school children. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate school nurses' experience of working with schoolchildren's stress. Method: A qualitative method was used and the result was analyzed with a qualitative content analysis. Asynchronous interviews with open questions were sent out by e-mail. Twelve school nurses answered. Results: In the study results one theme, three major categories and seven subcategories emerged. The theme was: School nurse´s health promotive and preventive work with stressed schoolchildren is built on experience, availability, conversations and cooperation. The major categories were: the school nurse's experience of stress in the school, the school nurse's way of working with stress and cooperation with the adults around the child. Conclusion: School nurses work with children's stress by seeing symptoms and finding reasons why the children are stressed. In terms of accessibility and conversation, the school nurses help the children to deal with stress. Furthermore, there is extensive collaboration between the adults around the children and that includes the children’s health professions, teachers and parents. The result in this study can help school nurses in their daily activities as the result shows many ways to work with stress.

Early identification of unhealthy growth can be implemented early to prevent sequelae such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. The purpose: To describe how the specialist nurses in the child health care work to promote health and prevention with families whose children are overweight and how the evidence is based on the care they provide. Method:A qualitative research design with an inductive approach has been used. Individual interview has been carried out and analyzed using a qualitative analysis. Result:The CHC-nurse’s experienced that a regular contact with the family improved the cooperation and relationship. In contact with the family, an empathetic approach is important. It is important to offer the family knowledge in diet, physical activity and limited screen-time to promote healthy weight-development. Various information sheets were used. Continuing education in the subject of overweight and obesity increases the CHC-nurse's credibility and evidence-based care. Collaboration with various departments and professions is necessary to offer the family the right help Conclusion: The CHC-nurse's approach and knowledge increased the parents' awareness and motivation. In a close collaboration between the CHC-nurse and the family, they could find good routines that could lead to a satisfactory growth.

Social communication and interactivity, language, attention, emotion, motor performance, learning and memory are examples of areas where impact can be seen. The school requires adaptation and adherence to pronounced and unspoken rules. The Student Health care should include medical, psychological, psychosocial and special educational efforts, and should aim to both prevent illness and promote health. Students' development towards the goals of the education should be supported. The purpose of the study was to investigate the school nurse's experiences of pupils with NPF and the school nurse's efforts for the student group in a health promotion and prevention perspective. This is an explorative qualitative study based on a focus group interview. Five school nurses participated with varied professional experience, varying from one to 15 years. Both elementary school and high school were represented. The results show that school nurses wish to do more for pupils with NPF and that it is not always easy to distinguish between health promotion and preventive measures. They want more cooperation, structured working methods and guidelines in the field of health promotion and prevention, and more time. Difficulties are described in distinguishing between health promotion and preventive measures. In order to support NPF students, enhanced collaboration, structured work methods and guidelines are needed in the field of health promotion and prevention efforts and more time. Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground: In the 1990’s the Swedish Association of School nurses released a recommendation for a maximum of 400 students per full-time school nurse. Since then a new School Law (2010:800) has been adopted which regulates the school nurse's assignments and includes a basic program with health visits and vaccinations. The assignment also includes that school nurses should work on health promotion and prevention based on pupils' life world. Aim: Illuminate school nurses' experiences of working on health promotion and prevention with a student number that exceeds the recommendation of a maximum of 400 students per full-time school nurse. Method: The study was conducted with a qualitative method. Three focus group discussions with a total of 11 participating school nurses were conducted in southern Sweden. Qualitative content analysis was used to analyze data. Results: The analysis of the data material resulted in four categories: Lack of time entails prioritizing tasks, High workload due to various factors, Health promotion and preventive work at group level, and the Recommendation in relation to school nurses 'workload and pupils' health. Conclusion: The desire and ambition to work for health promotion and prevention is found in school nurses, but due to lack of time, this work is not given priority. In order to give school nurses the opportunity to work according to the School Law (2010:800) the number of students and also the recommendation need to be reviewed.

To improve the care of these patients Swedish national guidelines recommend nurse-led multidisciplinary heart failure clinics [HFC] in primary health care. In spite of this, few Swedish counties are currently providing this service. AIM: To investigate how nurses experience the function of established HFC in primary health care and their impact on the lives of patients with heart failure, health related-wise. METHOD: The study had a qualitative descriptive onset. Semi-structured interviews were executed and transcribed verbatim. The data was then analyzed through manifest content analysis. RESULT: A total of 74 codes and 8 main categories were identified: The structure and setup of HFC, The patients’ health related situation, The nurses’ practical work, Health promotion support, The significance of HFC to patients, Obstacles in the nurses’ work with HFC, Support and guidelines in working with HFC and Evaluation and feedback. CONCLUSION: The participating nurses described the nurse-doctor contact as the main interaction, while several described the collaboration with physiotherapists, dieticians and psychologist as lacking. The nurses’ main priority was described as the information and education of the patients regarding their health problem and its treatment in order to promote adherence and quality of life. Furthermore, the nurses’ felt that they had the capability to prevent deterioration and thus decrease the need for inpatient care in individuals suffering from chronic heart failure.

Der volle Inhalt der QuellePrevious research shows a constant increase of mental illness among children and young people since the 1980s and the statutory assignment of the student school health team includes to work preventive in order to promote the students' health. Through seven semi-structured interviews with professionals within the student school health team, this study aims to investigate how they perceive their ability to work health promotive and preventive regarding mental illness. The study has taken place in a medium sized city in the middle of Sweden and the participants are exclusively women. The result of the study shows that there are both obstacles and opportunities in the work against mental illness. The professionals' action space and the support of the organization is emphasized as acceptable and proves to be a base for the student health team to be able to fulfill its mission. There are however some shortcomings in collaboration, job descriptions and evaluations which complicates a successful work. The result thereby shows that there is a development potential in the work of the student school health team. Continued research within the subject could give the professionals better opportunities to complete their assignment and actively work to promote the mental health of children and young people.

It is important to identify obesity and obesity at an early age as they are a high risk that children will also suffer from obesity or obesity in adulthood. Overweight and obesity can lead to various limitations in the individual and also an increased risk of suffering from weight-related diseases. These weight-related illnesses entail increased costs for society. The purpose of this study is to investigate how school nurses work to prevent obesity and obesity in school. To answer the purpose of the study, the following questions have been applied; What factors contribute to obesity and obesity in children? What are some preventative measures for obesity and obesity in school? How does the school work to get parents involved in the prevention of obesity and obesity in children? To collect data, a qualitative research method with semi-structured interview guide has been used as a tool. The interviewees are four school nurses at different schools in southern Sweden. The result showed that the school nurses at the various schools worked preventively against obesity and obesity. They had many similarities in preventive work. Some of their methods used were health conversations, weight checks and collaboration with other school staff.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe aim of this study is to create knowledge about how pupil welfare teams in schools can work with health promotion and prevention and not only with remedial work. Earlier research together with national reports and inspections has shown the challenge for pupil welfare teams to work with prevention and health promotion. The study first explored if the pupil welfare team in the study also worked with prevention and health promotion. Indications of this way of working was shown in an earlier study and the aim was then to further explore if there was an inflection point when the pupil welfare team started to work in these ways. In case there was such a point, the aim was also to further explore which factors that contributed to this and which factors that supported that these ways of working continued. System theory and theories about cross-professional teams are used as theoretical perspectives in the analysis. Special pedagogical perspectives and the salutogenic perspective were also used in the analysis together with earlier research about pupil welfare teams. Both qualitative methods with interviews and participant observations and a quantitative method with a questionnaire are used in the study. The information from the different data sources was triangulated in order to identify both different and convergent perspectives of the research questions. The following data material has been collected: a) 13 observations of pupil welfare teams including teachers b) 3 observations of pupil welfare teams without teachers c) a group interview with the pupil welfare team d) an interview with the psychologist in the pupil welfare team e) an interview with both headmasters in the school f) a group interview with six pupils g) a questionnaire to all teachers working on the school. Results show that the pupil welfare team has gone from remedial work to work more with prevention and health promotion. The results indicate the important role of the principal for creating clear goals and common visions. To stay long and hold on to the strategies are important for developing the way of working with prevention and health promotion. Clear routines, close co-operation with teachers and a pupil centered way of working are other keys to success for developing and hold on to prevention and health promotion work in pupil welfare teams. The results are discussed in relation to the theoretical background and earlier research.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIntroduction: Mental illness among adolescents is a growing health problem that many schoolsystems around the world are trying to manage with the help of health promotion and preventiveefforts. These efforts are based on developing knowledge about, and developing abilities tomanage, mental illness. However, there are some factors that hinder this process.Aim: The purpose of the following study is to study the factors that hinder the effects of schoolinterventions on mental health among adolescents 13- 18 years old.Method: This study has been conducted as a structured literature study based on data fromprevious studies and a content analysis that integrates this data into themes. The studies aretaken from the databases CINAHL and PubMed.Results: The analysis included 11 scientific articles that resulted in four themes: Neglecting thehealth problem, Type of implementation, Stigma and Teachers competence. The result showedthat these themes contained factors that hindered the purpose of the efforts. The slightimprovement in mental illness that the results demonstrated, emphasized the need to evaluateand develop the efforts more before implementation.Conclusion: Focusing on the mental health of adolescents based on evaluated and improvedefforts provides short- and long-term benefits. It benefits the well-being of young people aswell as the future population.

Malmö University: School of Health and Society, Department of Biomedical Laboratory Science, Public health and Nursing, 2007.Last year’s research bring out school’s importance as an arena for prevention efforts. Still, few schools systematically work with applying effective programs for young people’s social, emotional and academic learning. The purpose of my study was to examine in which ways school can prevent ill-health and promote health in pupils by applying different methods. Moreover, this qualitative study has consisted of interviews, and was carried out in two schools in Malmö. School A applied SET –social emotional training, and school B worked on the basis of the health promoting school concept. Both schools strived for promoting students’ skills development in things like decision making and social interaction, as well as to promote their health. In this work a supportive educationalist’s perspective was considered important. Thus, different activities for skills development in both schools probably increase the autonomy and the possibility to achieve increased control. This likely also reduces the risk for risk behavior development, hence, prevents ill-health. Involvement, as well as a supportive educationalist’s perspective, can promote health in students. Efforts concerning things like the social atmosphere and the everyday structure can increase the quality of life, and promote student´s success in school. This in turn can also promote student’s future health. However, some factors can possibly limit the good effects shown from the application of the methods. For instance referring to limitations in the implementation process and restrictions in students’ autonomy and involvement due to the educationalist’s ”top down” perspective.
