Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIn this study, the impact of lifestyles on residential mobility is analysed by drawing on qualitative and quantitative data from ten study areas in Berlin. From an action-theory-perspective, the analysis is centred on the social differentiation of place-utility definitions and residential mobility. The relationship between residential mobility and lifestyles is scrutinised in two directions: on the one hand, how far lifestyles can help to understand residential mobility; and on the other, what residential patterns and mobility actions reveal with regard to the social significance of lifestyles as a dimension of social inequality. Following these questions, the study takes a critical perspective in an ongoing debate in German sociology ad urban geography on a new paradigm of social stratification based on lifestyles. For the empirical analysis of this study, lifestyles are conceived as structured alongside the horizontal dimension modernity/biographical perspective and the vertical dimension of resources. The results show a differentiation of place utility expressed by preferences for housing types and neighbourhoods. Lifestyle specific differences gain their social significance by being embedded in models of reality that represent the individual''s position in the social world. The different individual models may be fundamentally opposed to each other and have only a limited social scope. In the analyses conducted in this study, lifestyles prove to be a significant dimension of inequality for different patterns of residential mobility, in particular when qualitative methodology is used to reconstruct their social significance. Nevertheless, the results do not advocate a conception of lifestyles as a more suitable dimension of inequality regarding socio-spatial issues in comparison to traditional dimensions, such as class and ethnicity. Instead I argue for a more selective use of the concept, for instance, in research on neighbourhood dynamics or milieus and scenes.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe symbolic treatment of mathematical models is essential to study the dynamics of complex physical systems by means of numerical simulations. In contrast to signal flow based approaches, modeling with equation-based and object-oriented languages has the advantage that the original equations can be used directly. The acausal description of equations increases reusability and reduces the effort for the modeller. The automated transformation of equations into assignments can in theory be applied to models of any size and complexity. In practice, however, problems arise when large models, i.e. mathematical systems with many equations and time-dependent variables, shall be transformed. Long execution times that occur limit the applicability of symbolic processing considerably. The present work describes the process of automated transformation from a model to program code which can be simulated numerically. All steps are examined in detail and evaluated in terms of its theoretical complexity. Suitable algorithms are implemented in the OpenModelica Compiler. Their execution times are compared by looking at models which are relevant to engineering. The best implementations for each sub-step are selected and combined to a Modelica Compiler BackEnd. Thus a relationship between model size and the time needed for transformation has been achieved which is mostly linear. In addition, a comprehensive discussion with numerous recommendations for the implementation of a Modelica Compiler BackEnd is given. This is supposed to help new developers as well as to facilitate the development of existing algorithms. The latter is supported by a modular concept of a BackEnd pipeline. Moreover, methods are discussed how new modules can be tested efficiently using this pipeline

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis aims at describing German third grade pupils'' concepts concerning the physical quantity weight. It is a hypothesis-generating thesis based on a qualitative study. We are going to clarify those concepts that can be observed, what kind of influence school instruction can have on these concepts and the implications for an instruction that wants to tie in with children''s previous experiences. Based on the theory of conceptual change and the theory of subjective domains of experiences as well as the mathematical and physical background of the quantity weight but also the results of previous studies, we will develop a model of a weight concept by organizing related aspects into subconcepts. We have designed an empirical study with the purpose of examining third graders'' weight concepts in the context of a teaching unit on weights. For the study, 15 children were interviewed. The interviews of two children are evaluated in form of two single case studies. The analysed concepts of these two children are completed with selected concepts of other children to find similarities and differences, allowing us to draw conclusions on both general concept evolution and instructional issues. The interview analyses show varied differentiated weight concepts. Some of the children showed already at the beginning highly developed subconcepts based on all-round individual experience. In the later interviews hardly any change of these children''s concepts were assessed. Other children with initially less sophisticated subconcepts evolved over time the concepts units, base knowledge, scales, and weighing. Immediately after the teaching unit we were able to find both new and evolved concepts. Later, some children''s concepts had stabilised while other children had returned to pre-instructional concepts. Based on the overall results of the study, we revisit our weight concept model.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe finite element method represents a powerful tool for the numerical simulation of deformation processes in components and structures. To realize a reliable prediction of the material behaviour the implementation of suitable material models into the FE-code is necessary. In the present thesis a material model for a phenomenological description of the anisotropic hardening behaviour in the case of finite elasto-plastic deformations based on a substructure approach is developed. The material model is formulated in terms of a system of differential and algebraic equations (DAE) with respect to the reference configuration. This DAE contains the hyperelastic material model, the evolutional equations for internal variables as well as the yield condition. Its thermodynamic consistency is proven. Based on a suitable time discretization of the DAE a numerical algorithm for solving the initial value problem is presented. Its succesful implementation into the experimental FE-code SPC-PMHP developed at the Chemnitz University of Technology is demonstrated on selected examples
