I sei romanzi della scrittrice di origine somala Igiaba Scego qui presi in considerazione sono contraddistinti, specialmente i primi, da un accentuato plurilinguismo, data la presenza di parole somale, arabe, spagnole, francesi e inglesi, mescolate a voci dialettali romane e napoletane. Utilizzando queste opere come corpus si propone un glossario dei 153 migratismi che si sono rintracciati. Per ognuno di essi si segnalano le eventuali varianti grafiche e si riportano le informazioni grammaticali, la lingua di provenienza e il campo semantico. I significati, quando possibile, sono ricavati da fonti interne al corpus (glossari proposti dalla stessa autrice) o esterne (studi critici o vocabolari, qualora la registrazione lessicografica sia già avvenuta), altrimenti sono desunte a partire dal contesto. Per ogni migratismo si dà poi l’elenco delle occorrenze nel corpus e un breve commento in cui si riportano i dati relativi alla diffusione della parola nei corpora di raffronto considerati, costituiti da archivi giornalistici o testi web. Migrant words. Igiaba Scego’s migrantisms The novels of the Somali-born writer Igiaba Scego are characterized by a marked multilingualism. Especially in the early novels, we find Somali, Arabic, Spanish, French and English words, mixed with Roman and Neapolitan dialect voices. Using these works as a corpus, a glossary of the 153 “migratismi” that have been traced is proposed. For each one, any graphic variants, the grammatical information, the language of origin and the semantic field are reported. A definition of meaning is given from internal sources (Igiaba’s glossaries) or external sources (e. g. vocabularies or neological repertoires). In the absence of sources, the definition is taken from the context. For each “migratismo”, the list of occurrences in the corpus is given and also a brief comment in which the data relating to the spread of the word in the comparison corpora are reported.

This essay considers the phenomenon of almanacs, encyclopedias, glossaries, lexicons, word books, vocabularies, companions, and (theoretical) toolboxes, which appears to be an outstanding feature of humanities today. By limiting her discussion to six specific examples of this genre, the author asks the following questions: Why is it that this method became so prolific? What are the objectives of almanacs, glossaries, and vocabularies? What do they do to thinking, writing, researching? What can they say about the moment we are in? And how do they contribute to defining this moment? Those questions orient discussions around humanities today toward the ethico-political practice of thinking otherwise.

How can we describe data when used as an art material? As the number of artists using data in their work increases, so too must our ability to describe the material in a way that is understood by both specialist and general audiences alike. Based on a review of existing vocabularies, glossaries and taxonomies of data, we propose our own concise taxonomy. To conclude, we propose the adoption of this concise taxonomy by artists, critics and curators, and suggest that ongoing refinement of the taxonomy takes place through crowdsourced knowledge sharing on the Web.

The origins of the lexicography of Spanish in America are found in various works such as glossaries, vocabularies, relationships, indexes, tables, etc., which have some common characteristics: they are simple and concise repertoires that are created because they are useful to understand the historical-geographical and literary texts, being usually appendices of a few dozens of words; in some cases they contain technical words or are included in dictionaries of another type. Twelve of these works are analyzed up to the beginning of the 17th century to show how lexicographical methods and techniques are outlined, which are the embryo of the later concept of dictionary of Americanisms.

Security assessment is crucial to the implementation and use of secure web portals. Literature reports studies about knowledge representation models for systems assessment and information security areas; however, there is a lack of conceptual formalization for the security assessment area. The security assessment ontology (SecAOnto) objective is to formalize knowledge on security assessment. It is based on ontologies, taxonomies, vocabularies, glossaries, and market guidelines. This paper presents an application of SecAOnto with the objective of identifying concepts in descriptions of security assessment items; the coverage of security characteristics is determined by using a coverage calculus algorithm. The application of SecAOnto and of the coverage calculus algorithms to the well-known standard ISO/IEC 27001 highlights its expressiveness. The proposal is useful for security experts and researchers in the context of security assessment, as well as to support web-based conceptual architectures.

The field of systemology does not yet have a standardised terminology; there are multiple glossaries and diverse perspectives even about the meanings of fundamental terms. This situation undermines researchers’ and practitioners’ ability to communicate clearly both within and outside their own specialist communities. Our perspective is that different vocabularies can in principle be reconciled by seeking more generalised definitions that reduce, in specialised contexts, to the nuanced meaning intended in those contexts. To this end, this paper lays the groundwork for a community effort to develop an ‘Ontology of Systemology’. In particular we argue that the standard methods for ontology development can be enhanced by drawing on systems thinking principles, and show via four examples how these can be applied for both domain-specific and upper ontologies. We then use this insight to derive a systemic and systematic framework for selecting and organising the terminology of systemology. The outcome of this paper is therefore twofold: We show the value in applying a systems perspective to ontology development in any discipline, and we provide a starting outline for an Ontology of Systemology. We suggest that both outcomes could help to make systems concepts more accessible to other lines of inquiry.

Resumo: O léxico é o nível da língua que mais revela o conhecimento de mundo de uma pessoa, uma vez que são as unidades lexicais a se referirem a elementos (ações, objetos, sentimentos, qualidades, eventos) do universo da vida humana. A realização deste trabalho foi motivada pela percepção da importância que a ampliação lexical tem no decorrer do caminhar de uma pessoa. Nessa ótica, é fato que a escola desempenha papel preponderante no desenvolvimento lexical de um aluno por ser o lugar em que ele entra em contato com um universo variado de textos. Desse modo, esta tese enfatizou aspectos referentes ao ensino-aprendizagem do vocabulário e apresenta subsídio metodológico, teórico e prático para o professor de Língua Portuguesa do Ensino Fundamental II, por meio de: i) orientações teóricas sobre o ensino do vocabulário; ii) sugestões sobre como ensinar o aluno a conhecer e a gostar de usar o dicionário e, desse modo, contribuir para que esse aluno utilize o dicionário como recurso didático útil, importante e prazeroso nos atos de leitura e de produção de textos; iii) exercícios diversos a respeito do vocabulário por intermédio de orientações para o aluno manusear o dicionário. Nessa perspectiva, os objetivos traçados para desenvolver este trabalho foram i) elaborar uma metodologia de ensino centrada nos aspectos da pedagogia do léxico durante as aulas de Língua Portuguesa do Ensino Fundamental II, mais precisamente nas turmas de 5ª. a 8ª. séries. Para a elaboração da proposta metodológica, no item em que são apresentados os exercícios de vocabulário, foi organizado um banco de dados no Programa Folio Views 4.2 com os textos dos Livros Didáticos utilizados nas aulas de Língua Portuguesa das escolas públicas da cidade de Cassilândia - Mato Grosso do Sul.
Abstract: The lexicon is the level of the language that shows the most the knowledge one has about the world, since the lexical unities refer to elements (actions, objects, feelings, qualities, events) of the human life universe. The fulfilment of this work was motivated by the perception of the importance that the lexical expansion has during someone's journey. From this point of view, it's a fact that the school has an important role on the lexical development of a student because it's the place where he/she is in contact with a great variety of texts. Thereby, this thesis emphasized the aspects related to vocabulary teaching and shows a methodological, theoretical and practical subsidy for the Basic Education Portuguese teacher by means of: i) theoretical orientations about vocabulary teaching; ii) suggestions on how to teach a student to know and like a dictionary and, this way, to contribute that this student will use the dictionary as a useful, important and pleasurable didactic resource, while reading and writing; iii) several exercises on vocabulary with some orientations about how the student can use the dictionary. From this perspective, the objective traced to develop this work was: i) to produce a methodology of teaching based on the aspects of the lexicon pedagogy during the Portuguese classes of the Basic Education, precisely in the groups of 5th and 8th grades. In this work, in the item where the exercises on vocabulary are presented, a database was organized in the Program Folio Views 4.2 with the texts extracted from the books used in the Portuguese classes of public schools in the city of Cassilândia - Mato Grosso do Sul.
Resumen: El léxico es un nivel de la lengua que más demuestra el conocimiento del mundo de una persona, puesto que son las unidades lexicales que se refieren a elementos (acciones, objetos, sentimientos, cuadidades, eventos) del universo de la vida humana. La realización de este trabajo fue motivada por la percepción de la importancia que la amplicación lexical tiene en el decurrir del caminar de una persona. En esa óptica, es facto que la escuela mantiene papel preponderante en el desesarollo lexical de un alumno por ser el lugar en que él entra en contacto con un universo variado de textos. Así, esta tesis ha enfatizado aspectos que se refieren a la enseñanza del vocabulario subsidio metodológico, teórico y práctico para el maestro de Lengua Portuguesa de la Enseñanza Fundamental por medio de: i) orientaciones teóricas sobre la enseñanza del vocabulario; ii) sugerencias sobre cõmo enseñarle al alumno a conocer y a gustar de usar el diccionario y, así, contribuir para que ese alumno utilize el diccionario como recurso didáctico útil, importante y plazeroso en los actos de lectura y de producción de textos; iii) ejercicios variados a respecto del vocabulario por intermédio de orientaciones para el alumno utilizar el diccionario. Presents a study of surveying terminology, which may be considered as an under-researched area when compared to legal, medical or business terminologies, focusing on English and Polish. This book provides a wide picture of surveying terminology by looking at problems that diversified groups of users may identify. Kwiatek investigates how surveying terms are created and how they are named in English and Polish; she analyses the concept systems of the two languages with respect to surveying terminology; and she indicates the areas of surveying in which terminology and conceptual differences occur, the factors that trigger them and translation strategies which are used to solve them.

O presente trabalho tem por objetivo a apresentação de aspectos da língua Baniwa (dialeto Siusí), membro da família lingüística Maipure-Arawak. Num primeiro capítulo situa o Baniwa-Siusí dentro de seu contexto histórico, geográfico e etnológico. O segundo capítulo fornece as chaves necessárias para a compreensão do interface entre as representações morfológicas e as realizações fonéticas, isto é, entre os níveis fonológico e fonético sistemáticos. O terceiro capítulo propõe uma interpretação não-linear das regras alistadas no capítulo precedente, mais especificamente com o uso do modelo lexical e do modelo auto-segmental. O uso do modelo métrico, apropriado para línguas stress accent, não se aplicou, uma vez que a língua revelou um sistema subjacente de tipo tonal e um sistema superficial do tipo pitch accent. É organizado, no quarto capítulo, um mini-dicionário português-siusí e siusí-português, extraído do template dm do nosso corpus interlinearizado pelo programa IT, corpus que reúne os dados da expedição ao alto Rio Negro. No capítulo quinto, é apresentada uma hipótese semântico-gerativa da deriva dos classificadores nominais. As respectivas referências bibliográficas são encontradas no final de cada volume.

Esta pesquisa propõe um método para a construção de vocabulários controlados temáticos e vetores de contexto, que associam termos a suas freqüências, a partir de currículos Lattes, com cálculo de aderência entre vetores. A geração dos vocabulários temáticos é feita por meio da normalização, redução de escopo com n-gramas e indexação das palavras-chave dos currículos Lattes. As palavras-chave são associadas às áreas de atuação, formação e produção, considerando a titulação máxima e contabilizando indicadores de freqüência e densidade. O cálculo de aderência entre vetores de contexto de currículos e vocabulário utiliza a medida do co-seno. A geração de vocabulários temáticos e o cálculo de aderência fazem parte de um sistema de apoio à decisão de fomento no âmbito dos Fundos Setoriais. Os vocabulários temáticos geram subsídios para a concepção de editais de chamada de propostas. Os vetores de contexto de pesquisadores e editais podem ser verificados quanto à aderência e, assim, subsidiar o processo de levantamento de possíveis candidatos à avaliador de propostas de financiamento de pesquisa. Os vocabulários temáticos podem subsidiar a construção de tesauros. This research proposes a controlled vocabulary construction method and context vectors, which associate terms and your frequencies, from Lattes curriculum vitae (CV), with calculation of adherence among vectors. The generation of controlled vocabulary is made through normalization, scope reduction with n-gram and CV keywords indexation. The keywords are associated to professional, formation and production areas, considering the maximum degree and counting of frequency and density indicators. The adherence calculation among CV context vectors uses the cosine measure. The controlled vocabulary generation and the adherence calculation are part of Brazilian sectorial funds fomentation support decision system. The controlled vocabularies generate subsidies for the proposals call proclamations construction. The proclamations and CV context vectors can be verified about your adherence and, to subsidize the rising process of possible candidates to research financing proposals assessor. The controlled vocabularies can subsidize the thesaurus construction.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study comprises an investigation into the restandardisation of Afrikaans. Since the 1980s, there have been various calls from the Afrikaans speech community for the democratisation of Afrikaans by making it representative of the whole Afrikaans speech community. Despite these calls for the restandardisation of Afrikaans, a matter which has been brought to the fore in recent years, there are still no real theoretically-based and practical suggestions for such a project. The practical approach to the restandardisation of Afrikaans suggested in this study, with a specific focus on the restandardisation of the orthography of Afrikaans, informs the suggestion of a model by which such a planned restandardisation programme for Afrikaans could be carried out. This is done based on existing theories of standardisation and restandardisation, as well as a thorough investigation into the history of the standardisation of Afrikaans in order to determine the reasons underlying this need for its restandardisation. Firstly, relevant theories of standardisation are considered in order to determine which aspects of language standardisation give rise to restandardisation and play the most important role in it. The history of the standardisation of Afrikaans is also considered, in order to indicate the factors which gave rise to the calls for the restandardisation of Afrikaans. The world-wide phenomenon of destandardisation – an increasing trend by which the validity of standardised languages is called into question – is subsequently considered. Following this, restandardisation is considered in greater detail. Although the term is used widely, there are not yet thorough theoretical descriptions of the nature of the process itself. Therefore, this study provides a theoretical consideration of what restandardisation comprises. An investigation into various examples of attempts at the restandardisation of languages in South Africa, Africa, and the rest of the world serves as a backdrop against which the need for the restandardisation of Afrikaans is discussed. The standardisation of the orthography of Afrikaans, as outlined in the ten issues of the Afrikaanse woordelys en spelreëls (“Afrikaans word list and spelling rules”) which have been published to date, is the next research focus. The purpose of this critical evaluation of the primary source for orthographic standardisation of Afrikaans is to point out the weaknesses in the current standardisation process which necessitate a new approach to the standardisation of Afrikaans (and by extension, its restandardisation). Finally, a model is presented for the restandardisation of the orthography of Afrikaans, but also Afrikaans as a whole, based on various theoretical and practical considerations contained in the study.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: In hierdie studie word die herstandaardisering van Afrikaans onder die loep geneem. Dit word gedoen teen die agtergrond van verskeie oproepe vanuit die Afrikaanse spraakgemeenskap sedert die 1980’s om Standaardafrikaans te demokratiseer deur dit verteenwoordigend te maak van die totale Afrikaanse spraakgemeenskap. Ten spyte van hierdie oproepe om die herstandaardisering van Afrikaans wat in die afgelope aantal jare op die spits gedryf is, ontbreek daar egter nog teoreties gefundeerde, praktiese voorstelle vir hoe so ’n herstandaardiseringsprojek daar sal uitsien. Hierdie studie verteenwoordig ’n praktiese benadering tot die herstandaardisering van Afrikaans, met ’n besondere fokus op die herstandaardisering van die Afrikaanse ortografie, deur ’n model daar te stel waarvolgens so ’n beoogde herstandaardiseringsprogram vir Afrikaans kan geskied. Dit word gedoen aan die hand van bestaande standaardiserings- en herstandaardiseringsteorie en ’n grondige ondersoek na die standaardiseringsgeskiedenis van Afrikaans ten einde te bepaal wat aanleiding gegee het tot hierdie herstandaardiseringstrewe in Afrikaans. Eerstens word daar gekyk na relevante standaardiseringsteorieë ten einde die belangrikste aspekte van taalstandaardisering te belig wat ’n rol speel in en aanleiding gee tot herstandaardisering. Die standaardiseringsgeskiedenis van Afrikaans word ook in oënskou geneem om te dui op die aspekte wat aanleiding gegee het tot die oproepe om die herstandaardisering van Afrikaans. Vervolgens word daar na die wêreldwye tendens van destandaardisering gekyk waardeur die geldigheid van standaardtale toenemend bevraagteken word. Hierna word herstandaardisering van nader beskou. Alhoewel die term reeds wyd gebruik word, bestaan daar nog nie diepgaande teoretiese beskrywings oor die aard van hierdie proses nie. Daar word dus vervolgens teoreties besin oor wat herstandaardisering behels. Verskeie voorbeelde van pogings tot die herstandaardisering van tale in Suid-Afrika, Afrika, en die res van die wêreld word ondersoek, waarna die redes vir ’n behoefte aan die herstandaardisering van Afrikaans uiteengesit word. Die standaardisering van die Afrikaanse ortografie, soos uiteengesit in die tien uitgawes van die Afrikaanse woordelys en spelreëls wat tot op hede verskyn het, kom volgende as navorsingsfokus aan bod. Die doel van hierdie kritiese evaluering van die primêre ortografiese standaardiseringsbron van Afrikaans is om te dui op die swakplekke in die huidige standaardiseringsproses wat ’n nuwe benadering tot die standaardisering van Afrikaans (dus die herstandaardisering van Afrikaans) noodsaak. Ten slotte word ’n model vir die herstandaardisering van die Afrikaanse ortografie, maar ook Afrikaans in geheel, voorgestel aan die hand van verskeie teoretiese en praktiese oorwegings soos in die loop van die studie uiteengesit.

Chapter 14 turns to the specialized lexicography of early modern English, in other words to monolingual glossaries, which formed part of, or were appended to, books on particular subjects, rather than being stand-alone publications. The earliest and most copious of these were of medical terms. Others, in chronological order of the earliest known wordlist in each category, surveyed legal language; the technical vocabularies of rhetoric, geometry, and cosmography (including some wordlists with illustrations); proper names; the cryptolectal language variety of thieves and vagabonds called cant (some wordlists of which were fanciful); the technical vocabularies of logic, herb-lore, hunting, and war; and English words pertaining to the study of the ancient world.

Studying technical work at digital interfaces, especially the work of engineers, poses challenges for ethnographers. In addition to the difficulties of understanding and documenting what engineers do at their computers, engineers use concepts and vocabularies that are foreign to social scientists without technical training. The authors describe the methods they developed over a decade to deal with these and related issues in their ethnographies of three engineering occupations: structural engineering, hardware engineering, and automotive engineering. Using dual observers, developing glossaries of technical terms, recording streams of behaviour, developing task tables, creating technology inventories, and creating databases of digital artefacts cross-referenced to one’s fieldnotes are among the 14 techniques discussed and illustrated.

Abstract Language is often assumed to be the carrier of a nation’s culture, and in a sense the dictionary can be said to be the carrier of language, as the dictionary describes and records language, which makes it possible for language elements to be preserved and transmitted from generation to generation. Modern linguists have to resort to ancient glossaries, wordbooks, vocabularies, dictionaries, and relevant literature to conduct research on ancient languages and their writing systems. The dictionary is traditionally considered the reference tool that provides information concerning fiord history, grammar, pragmatics, sense relations, and sense differentiation, in addition to the phonetics, orthography, and signification of language. All this reflects the main features most dictionaries share and is the epitome of the linguistic nature of the dictionary.
