The solubility of Butylated hydroxyl toluene in aqueous and alcohol solutions were determined at different temperatures (293.15 to 313.15) K. Using Van’t Hoff and Gibb’s equations, some thermodynamic functions such as Gibbs energy, enthalpy and entropy of dissolution, and of mixing of Butylated hydroxyl toluene in aqueous and alcohol solutions, were evaluated from solubility data. This article deals with the various forms of manipulation that the Italian edition of Gibbon's masterpiece demanded in the frame of Restoration Italy. The first edition of the Italian translation from Tuscany is considered too, in order to display how Italian translators and publishers succeed in the huge censorship examination. At the same moment, the article deals with the Catholic former response to Gibbon, in a comparison with the British reactions edited by Womersley. Finally, the Italian edition of Gibbon is focused in an enlarged outcast of the translation of history during the first decays of 19th century Italy.

The preliminary aim of this paper is documentary: to clarify and confirm the dating of Gibbon's famous essay ‘General Observations on the Fall of the Roman Empire in the West’. According to a new view, this essay may reasonably be read as if it were written in the early months of 1780. The obvious objection to this position is that, in a now familiar passage from his Memoirs, Gibbon explicitly assures us that the ‘General Observations’ were written before 1774, and thus in all probability before 1773, when he began writing his History. I argue that we should believe what Gibbon tells us. But though the discussion originates in the dry terrain of dates, important interpretative consequences follow. These stem from the interest of the ‘General Observations’ in their own right — a panoramic view of ancient and modern history as broad as the entire range of Gibbon's History — and from their insertion at the end of Volume III of that work (published in 1781). Were the ‘Observations’ so revised as to be virtually written in sequence (as the new view supposes), or do they present a more problematic case — being written before the beginning of Volume I but inserted at the end of an independent text completed eight years later? Consideration of this point raises issues fundamental to the understanding of Gibbon's compositional and intellectual processes, and is the principal justification for what follows.

AbstractThermodynamic assessment of electrochemical reduction of TiO2 to Ti metal in CaCl2 molten salt electrolyte is discussed. The conversion of TiO2 to Ti takes place via multi-step reduction process that involves formation of several intermediates or sub-oxides of titanium at different reaction conditions. A complete understanding of these redox chemical reactions, and change in reaction Gibbs energy is very essential for efficient extraction of the Ti metal. This research article discusses the thermodynamic modelling studies on the formation of different titanium sub-oxides and corresponding reaction conditions (change in Gibb’s energy, temperature, and pressure) during TiO2 reduction to Ti metal.

This paper reports the thermodynamic analysis of (Co–Cr) system using THERMO-calc package (basis for CALPHAD) and PBIN database. Calculations involve binary phase diagram, Gibb’s energy curve and activity curve at three different elevated temperatures 2125[Formula: see text]K, 2150[Formula: see text]K and 2175[Formula: see text]K. Induced miscibility gap is observed at particular concentration. Binary phase diagram shows variation in phases in prescribed alloy with increasing temperature and mole fraction concentration of [Formula: see text]. The total Gibbs energy decreases with increasing temperature showing the stability of Co–Cr system. Activity showed thorough fluctuation resulting in negative deviation from Raoult’s law ideal curve.

In this paper, five names used for darkling beetles (Insecta: Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) in the Linnaeus collection at the Museum of Zoology, Uppsala University (UUMZ) are evaluated based on specimen examinations, modern species concepts, and review of the original species diagnoses. The types are of species described in Systema Naturae (Tenebrio caraboides L., 1758, Tenebrio gibbus L., 1760, Tenebrio gigas L., 1767, and Tenebrio muricatus L., 1758) and Museum Ludovicae Ulrica (Tenebrio spinosus L., 1764). Tenebrio caraboides L., 1758, refers to a composite type series consisting of two UUMZ paralectotypes, identified herein as Pachychila hispanica Solier, 1835, and gaditana Rosenhauer, 1856, and the lectotype in the Linnean Collection, Natural History Museum, London (BMNH), for the ground beetle Cychrus caraboides (L. 1758). The three specimens in the De Geer Collection, Swedish Museum of Natural History, Stockholm (NHRS), under Tenebrio gibbus L., 1760, are determined as Psammodes gibbus (L., 1760), comb. nov.; this includes the “lost” type of Linnaeus, whereas the UUMZ Linnaeus specimen is not a type and identified as an undetermined species of Amnodeis Miller, 1858, similar to A. giganteus Reiche & Saulcy, 1857. The type of Tenebrio spinosus L., 1764, represents an Egyptian species, Akis spinosus (L., 1764), which has often been misidentified as Akis trilineata Herbst, 1799, a West Mediterranean species. The holotype of Tenebrio muricatus L., 1758, is Adesmia muricatus (L., 1758), comb. nov., a species appearing in recent publications as Adesmia austera Baudi di Selve, 1881, syn. nov. Two Linnean specimens preserved with the UUMZ types under the unpublished names “Tenebrio impressus” and “Tenebrio variolosus” are an undetermined species of Erodius Fabr., 1775, and Pimelia fornicata Herbst, 1799, respectively. Psammodes gibbus (L., 1760), comb. nov., is the valid name for Psammodes striatus (Fabr., 1775), syn. nov., a South African species. Pimelia gibba Fabr., 1787, and Tenebrio gibbus Pallas, 1781, are synonyms, making the current combination and attribution for this species name Moluris gibbus (Pallas, 1781). Pimelia simplex Solier, 1836, is restored as valid, resulting in changes for three subspecies names: Pimelia simplex simplex Solier, 1836, stat. rest., Pimelia simplex oasis Koch, 1941, comb. nov., and Pimelia simplex substriata Koch, 1941, comb. nov. Two new synonyms are recognized for Centorus elongatus (Herbst 1797): Calcar variabilis Gebien, 1906, syn. nov. (an unavailable subsequent usage of Tenebrio variolosus Fabr., 1801), and Tenebrio variolosus Fabr., 1801, syn. nov.
