Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackgroundIt is today commonly known that physical activity is of importance for the physical and psychological development in children and teenagers. PurposeThe purpose of this study was to find out what motivates pupils to be physically active and also to find out what may increase the pupils’ physical activity during the school day. The purpose was also to investigate the teachers’ opinions about the pupils’ physical activity. MethodThe survey was conducted by means of three questionnaires. Participating in the study were two schools in two different municipalities in Sweden. Pupils in grade 7 and 8 (age 13-14) answered two separate questionnaires, 139 pupils in total. In addition, teachers answered a separate questionnaire where 8 answered questionnaires were collected.ResultsThe study shows that the main contribution that would motivate the pupils to increase their physical activity during the school day, were longer breaks. None of the teachers suggested this. The pupils’ motives for being physically active were mainly that they think it is fun and because they feel good while exercising. ConclusionWith small means an increase in pupils’ physical activity during the school day can be reached. However, it demands a higher awareness about which contributions that have the best effects on the physical activity.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleAim The aim of the study is to investigate how school leaders at secondary schools in Stockholm County talk about students’ opportunity for daily physical activity during school hours. The aim has been concretised into three issues: How do school leaders view the assignment in the curriculum on daily physical activity? How do school leaders describe the school's work in offering students daily physical activity? And how do school leaders view physical activity in relation to learning? Method The study is of a qualitative approach and data has been collected through interviews with five respondents who work as principal or assistant principal at five different secondary schools. The theoretical starting points of the study are the curriculum and framework factor theory. Results The majority of the school leaders stated that they work to offer their students daily physical activity and the purpose is to improve the learning and their students’ health. The students are offered daily physical activity through scheduled movement training, voluntary movement training, movement breaks in teaching, breaks, P.E. lessons and by moving in the school buildings. The school leaders underline that physical activity has a positive impact on students' learning and also affects their behaviour in school. However, they emphasize that the students do not perform better at a specific subject. Conclusion All secondary school students are offered the opportunity for daily physical activity to a greater or lesser extent. It depends on how the school has chosen to work with the assignment in the curriculum. The schools can choose by them selves how to offer their students daily physical activity. Based on the assignment in the curriculum they can make it from each schools own condition. Much of the daily physical activity offered is voluntary, meaning that students do not automatically become physically active just because they are given the opportunity to be physically active.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleAbstract Aim: The aim of this study was, from a curriculum theory perspective, to examine headmasters´ views of daily physical activity in schools. Which conditions do headmasters in schools and a municipality work by and how does an option for physical activity correlate in schools? Further, how do headmasters work for daily physical activity in school ages 12 to 15. Method: The participants consisted of five headmasters from five schools and one chief education officer from a municipality in northern Stockholm. They were interviewed based on an interview guide and a phenomenological approach. Results: Physical environment in schoolyards and inside schools was a key issue to headmasters of the schools and the chief education officer. The results indicate differences between the schools, but cooperation between teachers and subjects was one way that the informants suggested to overcome the problems. Conclusions: Cooperation between teachers of different subjects and greater opportunities of physical activity are examples of strategies in schools to increase daily physical activity. For example schoolyards, lessons outdoor and open indoor halls. Cooperation is also necessary because the physical health is important for the pupils in long terms.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleAbstract Aim The aim of this study is to examine the strategies that principals use to fulfill the mandate for compulsory schools to offer daily physical activities for students and how they motivate their strategies. This thesis also aims to examine potential factors that influence these strategies for offering students daily physical activity ● How do the principals interpret the task? ● Which strategies does the principals use for the task today? ● What influence the principals strategies? Method Four semi-structured interviews have been conducted with principals from four elementary schools in order to examine the principals’ strategies. A convenience sample was made and the interviews were recorded and later transcribed. The transcriptions have been analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Results The principals interpret the wording in the curriculum for daily physical activity as something important. However, not all principals interpret the wording about daily physical activity as something students should have every day: one principal interprets that it is an ambition to offer. The difference between the schools is their way of working with daily physical activity. Three of the schools have extra scheduled physical activity while the fourth only implements this mandate through breaks between lessons. Additionally, there are several factors that influence the principals’ strategies:economy, environment, population, curriculum and time. These factors can both facilitate or complicate the principal’s scope of action. Conclusions The result shows that the principals think the wording in the curriculum is diffuse and easy to say “check that”. This is demonstrated by the fact that the schools' working methods both have similarities and differences. We conclude that while schools work in a similar way to some extent, there are also differences. These differences in working methods are so great that we consider it possible to question whether there is an equal opportunity for children to be physically active during the school day.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground: Breast cancer has become the most common form of cancer for women and about 20 women are told every day that they have breast cancer. The origin of why breast cancer occurs is also not completely clear, but one of the risk factors for both onset and recurrence risk is physical inactivity. During treatment of breast cancer, research shows that only 32 percent of women achieve a recommended level of physical activity. Physical activity during the treatment of breast cancer has been shown to have a good effect on, among other things, fatigue, which is the most common side effect of chemotherapy drugs. The motivation to be physically active during treatment is also governed by a number of different factors. Purpose: The purpose of the present study is to investigate which motivational factors are perceived to contribute to maintaining - or increasing the level of physical activity during the treatment of breast cancer in women. Method: The approach applied in the present study was of a qualitative nature. The collection of empirical data took place with the help of semi-structured interviews from six women who were undergoing treatment for breast cancer. A content analysis was used in processing and analysis. The theoretical framework used was Self-determination theory. Results: The results show that the motivation for physical activity during the treatment of breast cancer is governed by a number of different motivational factors, both external and internal. A total of ten subcategories were identified that are perceived to contribute to motivation to be physically active during breast cancer treatment. In the present study, there was nothing to support perceived motivation for physical activity. Discussion: In the present study, there are similarities with previous research on the chosen research area. The motivation to be physically active during the treatment of breast cancer seems to be due to a previous habit and experience of physical activity before diagnosis and treatment. Furthermore, perceived social support, physical environment, aids, covid-19, limitations, mood and health, self-confidence and positive emotions and joy contribute to the motivation to be physically active. Conclusion: The present study shows that both the chosen research area and the concept of motivation are complex. What motivates a woman to be physically active during treatment does not necessarily have to be what motivates another. Although the study has been able to identify different types of internal and external motivational factors, these are regulated by both internal-, integrated-, identified-, introjected- and external regulation.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground: The increasing prevalence of sedentary behavior among children is alarming since unhealthy living habits and lifestyle during childhood is a risk factor for ill health in adulthood. Schools play an important role when promoting children’s health and daily physical activity. According to the curriculum, teachers and principals are expected to promote daily physical activity to all students during the school day. Purpose: To examine teachers' and principals' experiences in promoting daily physical activity to students based on the support given to the school and the resources available. Method: Data was collected by ten semi-structured interviews conducted in five schools within three municipalities. Data was analyzed by using qualitative content analysis with a focus on the manifest content. Results: Respondents experienced that efforts varied depending on how physical activity was prioritized by the school. Support from the principal, the municipality and the parents was considered important in order to increase these efforts. Factors that influenced the delivery included the pressure to meet the curricular requirements for other subjects, the views on physical activity, the school yards’ characteristics as well as the access to stimulating environments. The decreased interest in physical activity and the increased interest in electronic entertainment was also seen as a challenge. Conclusion: The awareness of the existing curriculum on daily physical activity should increase in order to put more effort on promoting daily physical activity to students. For this to be possible, the view on physical activity has to change. Increased support from stakeholders is also needed in order to prioritize daily physical activity in schools.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground: The daily physical activity of children decreases, new activities and interests performed in front of a computer are a contributing factor to this. Increased sedentary lifestyle can lead to a few consequences. Physical activity can counteract this and contribute to improved fitness, muscle strength, blood pressure, blood fats, bone density and BMI in children and adolescent of school age. Aim: To compile how physical activity during the school day for students (age 6-19) affects school performance. Method: This systematic literature study is based on 13 scientific articles. The studies have a quantitative approach and were conducted with randomized control studies (RCT). A quality review of the material was done with the help of GRADE. Result: The result does not show a unanimous result regarding how physical activity affects students' school performance. Instead, the studies show three main areas that are summarized as a positive result on school performance after intervention, no change in school performance after intervention and finally other effects of intervention. Conclusion: No general conclusion has been drawn regarding increased physical activity and students' school performance. Only a small part may have been negatively affected by the increased physical activity during the school day. In general, no negative impact can be seen on students' school performance after the interventions. Research also shows that students who have taken part in these interventions develop fewer problems with anxiety, compared with children in a control group.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleABSTRACT Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosis in women around the world. In Sweden, about 20 women are diagnosed daily. Chemotherapy is given as part of the treatment, which causes many side effects to the affected patients. Aim: The purpose of this literature study was to investigate how physical activity affects breast cancer patients during chemotherapy treatment. Method: Descriptive design with literature study was chosen as a method. The study was based on quantitative articles to answer the purpose of the study. Results: Most of the included articles showed that physical activity has a positive effect on breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. The positive impact consisted of improved physical strength and fitness, body composition, mental health, quality of life and reduced fatigue. No adverse effect was found, however, lack of effect of intervention. The physical activity was of a different nature, the length of the training time also varied as the follow-up time that the participants participated in the study. Conclusion: The result shows that physical activity has a positive effect on breast cancer patients who undergo chemotherapy. Through information and guidance on physical activity in different forms, patients well-being could increase. The study's results emphasize the value of physical activity as part of breast cancer patients treatment. Physical activity is cost-effective and should be applied as self-care in part of the standard treatment.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleABSTRACT Aim Currently, the carbohydrate-restricted diet is a very popular method to achieve weight loss. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a low carbohydrate diet on perceived exertion during exercise compared to a high carbohydrate diet. The questions were: Are the ratings of perceived exertion during exercise higher after practicing a low carbohydrate diet compared to a high carbohydrate diet? Can any differences be observed in perceived exertion on Borg’s RPE-scale and CR 100 scale? Can any differences be observed in heart rate, blood glucose and blood lactate? It was hypothesized that perceived exertion during exercise would be higher after practicing a low carbohydrate diet. Method Six subjects performed a 45-minute cycling exercise at 60-65 % of maximal heart rate after consuming a non-carbohydrate-restricted diet for four days. The cycling exercise was repeated after consuming a carbohydrate-restricted diet for the four nest days. During both tests perceived exertion and heart rate where registered. Blood glucose and blood lactate were measured in capillary blood samples. Results The participant’s intakes of carbohydrates were significant lower during the second phase of the study. Blood glucose was also significant lower during the second test. Ratings of perceived exertion were not significantly different between the two tests; neither were there any significant differences in heart rate or blood lactate. Conclusions A carbohydrate-restricted diet (87 grams of carbohydrates a day) has no significant effect on perceived exertion during a 45-min cycling exercise at 60-65 % of maximal heart rate. The findings cannot comment on the effects of eating fewer carbohydrates, for example 20-30 grams per day according to Atkin’s, or performing the cycling exercise at a higher intensity, on perceived exertion.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleWhen students of the Nautical Science and the Marine Engineering Programmes are on the ship-based internship, this means limited opportunities for physical activity. Factors such as long hours of work, bad weather and a lack of sleep can affect the students while at sea. Recommendations from the Public Health Authority mean that adult persons from the age of 18 need to exercise a physical activity at least 150 minutes per week at moderate intensity so as not to become too sedentary. According to the Maritime Labor Convention, there will be a leisure space aboard ships over 3000 GT, which means that there are opportunities for physical activity on board these vessels. The purpose of this survey was to describe the physical activity of students when they are on a ship-based internship and when they have campus-based education. The purpose is also to compare the students of the Nautical Science Programme to the students of the Marine Engineering Programme when it comes to physical activity. The study also aimed to show whether the physically active students used some form of exercise-related dietary supplements. The method consisted of a quantitative study in the form of questionnaires with fixed response alternatives and questions with a graded approach. The sample consisted of 90 respondents from the Nautical Science Programme to the students of the Marine Engineering Programme at a Naval institute. Primary data was compiled in frequency tables to be able to read how the distribution in the variable looked. In order to clarify the distribution of the variable more clearly, the primary data was finally compiled in bar charts. The result showed that the respondents were more physically active when they were on the ship-based practice than when they were on campus. The increase in the physical activity of the Marine Engineering 'respondents appeared clearer while the Nautical Science respondents increase was marginal. Respondents performed more training sessions a week but shortened the length of the workout. The majority of respondents at the naval institute were physically active despite factors such as weather, long hours of work and insufficient sleep affecting them. The study also showed that about half of the respondents who performed physical activity used exercise-related dietary supplements in connection with the exercise. The most common dietary supplement in connection with training that the respondents used was protein powder. The respondents' reason for using dietary supplements was because they got more out of their training.

1. Gravida kvinnors fysiska aktivitetsvanor
- Antal dagar i veckan
- Aktiviteter som utfördes
- Anledning till inaktivitet
Aim and questions
The aim of this study was to examine pregnant women’s habits in physical activity during the three trimesters and the birth weight of the children. There for the mother’s level of physical activity and if it had any correlation with the birth weight of the child were examined. We furthermore wanted to see if there was a difference between the older and younger women in the choice of activities and in the children’s birth weight.
The questions were:
1. Pregnant women’s habits in physical activity
- The number of days per week
- The activities that were practised
- The reasons for inactivity
2. Was there a difference between physically active and inactive mothers when it comes to the child’s birth weight?
- The level of physical activities’ influence on the child’s birth weight
3. Was there a difference in the choice of physical activity and the child’s birth weight between the mothers in respectively age-group?
- Was there a difference between the women in respectively age-group considering weather or not they were physically active?
Method
Four child health centres in a big city municipality were contacted and 116 questionnaires were given out. We received back 58 questionnaires and analyzed them in SPSS. After that shorter interviews were held with the nurses in groups where they shared their experiences in the field. We also looked into other studies made in the field on the Internet and in different databases and literature to get a deeper understanding in the subject.
Results
The study showed that the level of physical activity amongst the pregnant women decreased the later in the pregnancy that they proceeded. The study also showed that the pregnant women all in all during the three trimesters foremost practised walks, but weight-lifting, grouptraining and other activities were also performed. The main reason for inactivity was medical reasons/complications connected to the pregnancy. There was no considerable difference in the children’s mean birth weight between the active and inactive mothers according to our definition and it was foremost the younger mothers that were inactive. The study also found that the mothers that gave birth to the children with low birth weight were also the ones that had been most physically active during their pregnancy. The result also showed that there was a small difference in the choice of activities between the two age-groups in the mothers and the children to the younger mothers had an insignificant higher mean birth weight.
Conclusion
The results of the study is not enough to make any general conclusions in our subject but it can be used as a foundation for further research in the field and to test different hypothesises.

Akademin för hälsa och arbetsliv. Högskolan i Gävle.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground: Studies have shown an association between level of physical activity (PA) and mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there is a lack of Swedish studies. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the association between physical activity and mental health in Swedish adults during the COVID-19 pandemic between February and March 2021. Methods: A survey consisting of the Swedish versions of GHQ-12 and IPAQ-SF was shared via Facebook and everyone between the ages of 18-65 and living in Sweden was eligible. Results: There was 134 participants in the survey and 72 completed answers. The median for MET-minutes per week was 2269 with no difference between the sexes (p=0.07). In contrast, there was a difference in mental health between the sexes; 52% of the women reported a worse mental health compared to 29% of the males (p=0.003). A significantly larger proportion of males than females maintained their level of PA (p=0.003). There was a fair, significant correlation between PA and mental health (r=-0.35, p=0.0024) where a higher level of PA was associated with better mental health. Also, a change in the level of PA during the pandemic was associated with mental health (r=-0.42, p=0.0039) where a decrease in PA was associated with worse mental health. Conclusion: This study demonstrates a correlation between physical activity and mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden where a higher level of physical activity was associated with better mental health. However, further Swedish studies are needed to ensure these results.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) and low quality of life are prevalent among people undergoing adjuvant cancer treatment. Health-enhancing physical activity (HEPA) protects from these negative consequences. HEPA in turn, is influenced by exercise-related self-efficacy. Aim To describe levels of HEPA among people undergoing adjuvant cancer treatment at diagnosis and after six months, and to determine if those with a stable a HEPA had lower CRF, higher quality of life and exercise-related self-efficacy compared to those without a stable HEPA. Method Cohort study with a comparative, prospective design. Baseline and six-months data (n=45) were collected from a larger longitudinal study, by accelerometer (SWA) and three questionnaires (FACIT-F, EORTC QLQ C30, EBSS). Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and independent t-test (P <0.10). Result Among the 45 included, 26 (48%) had a stable HEPA. This group was significantly different at six months compared to the group without a stable HEPA in CRF: (M=41, SD=10.3) to (M=33, SD=10.6), t(43)=7.3, p=0.027, general quality of life (M=72, SD=19.7) to (M=60, SD=19.4), t(43)=11.4, p=0.010, perceived function: (M=87, SD=13.3) to (M=76, SD=16.5), t (43)=11.0, p=0.014 and perceived symptoms: (M=14, SD=10.0) to (M=23, SD=18.1), t(43)= - 9.4, p=0.031. No difference was found between the groups regarding exercise-related self-efficacy. Conclusion The results indicated that a large proportion of people undergoing adjuvant cancer treatment have a stable HEPA and these people report better health such as lower CRF and higher quality of life compared to those without a stable HEPA. Larger studies are needed to allow firm conclusions.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe purpose of the study was to investigate how older active fitness club members' physical activity was affected by one facility’s adaptations subsequent to national recommendations during the covid-19 pandemic. Interviews and a non-participatory observation were used as data collection methods. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the facility's site manager and with four elderly fitness club members. A conventional content analysis was used to analyze data. Results showed that facility adaptations specific to the elderly members were implemented primarily to avoid attracting them to the facility. The elderly members found it difficult to maintain their regular exercise routines outside the facility, which resulted in a reduced exercise. However, elderly members were physically active to some extent outside the facility, mainly by walking and with support of a television fitness program. In conclusion, elderly fitness club members experienced difficulties in maintaining the same exercise routines outside the facility as before the covid-19 adaptations. Scheduled activities, support and encouragement from a fitness instructor as well as the social context were important factors to maintain exercise routines.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground: The covid-19-pandemic resulted in an amount of social adaptations in order to minimise the spread of infection, which resulted in new approaches in everyday life that among other things impacted the terms to engage in health behaviours such as physical activity. The age group 70 years and older became particularly restricted by the confinements. It is important for the older population to maintain functional capacity and reduce age-related morbidity through physical activity, therefore it may be important to identify challenges and opportunities for physical activity when the conditions alter as they have during the covid-19-pandemic; for further work to promote public health. Aim: The aim was to examine the experiences of and thoughts concerning physical activity/exercise connected to covid-19 of people in the age group 70 years and older. Method: A qualitative design based on semi structured interviews was used. Five women in age 72-88 years were recruited through convenience sampling. Data was processed with a qualitative content analysis. Results: The data generated five categories and fourteen subcategories. The categories were: Changes in physical activity during covid-19, Positive experiences of outdoor training, “Träffpunkt” is important during the pandemic, Challenges which complicate physical activity during covid-19 and Driving factors which facilitate physical activity during covid-19. Conclusion: The opportunity of continued organised and adapted group training for elderly during a pandemic contributes to reduced inactivity and increased physical activity within the age group 70 years and older.
