In this dissertation, I argue that Aristotle's account of friendship is egoistic. Focusing on the Nicomachean Ethics, I begin with VIII.2. Here Aristotle claims that in all friendships, friends love only because of the lovable (φιλητóv), which divides into the useful, pleasant, and good. I argue that "because of (διὰ)" refers to at least the final cause and that "the lovable" refers to what appears to contribute one's own happiness (εuδαιμoνία); therefore Aristotle claims that in all friendships, friends love only for the sake of their own happiness. This result may seem incompatible with some types of concern Aristotle principally attributes to his normative paradigm of complete friendship: wishing goods for the sake of the other and loving the other for himself. One might argue that these types of concern are altruistic, and so it cannot be the case that in all friendships, friends love only for the sake of their own happiness. I argue that these types of concern ultimately hinge on one's own happiness. The object is the lovable (what appears to contribute to one's own happiness), specifically the good instantiated by the other's virtue; further, what a virtuous person takes as valuable about another's virtue is how it facilitates her own virtuous activity, that is, her own happiness. From here I turn to Aristotle's notion of 'another self'. One popular interpretation of other selfhood defies the altruism/egoism divide. Here the essential feature of other selfhood is virtue, which allows for no prioritization among virtuous people; there is no prioritization of the other over oneself (as in altruism) nor of oneself over the other (as in egoism), since the relevant parties are equal in moral standing (they are virtuous). Assessing the instances of 'another self' in the Nicomachean Ethics VIII.12, IX.4, and IX.9, I argue for an egoistic interpretation of other selfhood; the essential feature of other selfhood is involvement in one's own actualization. That is, what makes other selves valuable is how they facilitate one's own virtuous activity, one's own happiness. Finally, I address the doctrine of self-love in the Nicomachean Ethics IX.8. Again, some interpreters derive non-prioritization from the text; Aristotle claims that all virtuous people identify with the understanding (voũç), so, the non-prioritization interpretation goes, there can be no prioritization among virtuous agents, as they are identical in the relevant way. I argue for an egoistic interpretation of IX.8; Aristotle endorses praiseworthy self-love, which involves maximizing the superlatively valuable fine (καλòν) for oneself over others. Moreover, such self-prioritization occurs precisely by gratifying the understanding, that which was supposed to ground non-prioritization.

This paper presents and discusses the results of recent investigations carried out by the Ánimas Altas Archaeological Program, in the Ica department, southern Peru. A particular emphasis is put on the excavations conducted at a frieze-decorated building. The analysis of the material culture registered in this building, particularly of the icons depicted on the friezes, not only offers some interpretations regarding Paracas symbology and cosmovision but also sheds lights on critical aspects related to identity as well as the territorial dynamics of the Paracas social formations from the lower section of the Ica valley. Furthermore, imagery depicted on friezes support the idea that social interactions promoted by the Paracas were not limited to the adjacent highland. Even more, potential links with the north and central coast from remote timesneed to be further investigated. The stylistic and technological variations registered at the «Building of Friezes» – which are not diachronically manifested, can reveal diverse phenomena such as the occupation of the territory by several groups that gave shape to socio-political identities in Late Paracas times. The comparison between the data obtained from the excavation at the «Building of Frizes» and other Paracas sites´will allow Paracas scholars to formulate interpretations and hypotheses about both the political and cultural spaces of the ancient Paracas.
En este artículo, se presentan y se discuten los resultados de las recientes investigaciones llevadas a cabo en el marco del Programa Arqueológico Ánimas Altas, Ica, Perú. Se enfatizan las excavaciones realizadas en un edificio decorado con frisos. El análisis de la cultura material de este edificio —en particular, de los íconos plasmados en los frisos— ofrece algunas interpretaciones no solamente respecto a la simbología y cosmovisión paracas; también, arroja luces sobre aspectos relacionados con dinámicas identitarias y territoriales de las formaciones sociales paracas en el valle bajo de Ica. Los íconos plasmados en los frisos apoyan la idea según la cual las interacciones de los paracas no se limitaron a la sierra adyacente. Más aún, existen nexos con la costa norte y central desde épocas remotas que quedan por investigar. Las variacionesestilísticas y tecnológicas observadas en el Edificio de los Frisos —que no se manifiestan en diacronía— pueden revelar varios fenómenos, entre ellos, la ocupación del territorio por varios grupos que formaron entidades sociopolíticas en la época Paracas Tardío. Las comparaciones entre los datos proporcionados por las excavaciones del Edificio de los Frisos con los de otros sitios permitirán formular interpretaciones e hipótesis sobre el espacio político y cultural de los paracas.

Baby Blue is a comic book about friendship and romantic love that is told by two characters. I want to explore more on understanding a complicated feeling between romantic love and friendship love. Since relationships are very complicated and difficult to understand, I think it’s a good way to go through a journey with the main character and see how she’s dealing with her own feelings. This qualitative inquiry into Critical Friends Groups (CFGs) at Lower Canada College (LCC), a coeducational, bilingual, K-12, private, day school in suburban Montreal, focusses on the impact of CFGs on teachers' professional growth and classroom practices. Using interviews, focus groups, participant observations and a questionnaire, I examined the recursive cycle of professional growth and transformation, and rooted the inquiry within the theoretical frameworks of reflective practice, the dialogic imagination, social constructivist learning and critical theory. I conceptualize teachers' professional growth as the transformation of professional practices through the deepening knowledge and expertise that arises out of collaborative inquiry and collegial dialogue. The major assumption supported by this study is that teachers learn from one another through engaging in ongoing and site-based critical dialogue focussed on classroom practices. This inquiry has implications for professional development programmes, school leadership and teacher empowerment.

This essay explores how masculinity is portrayed in The Good Soldier (Ford Madox Ford) and Women in Love (D.H Lawrence), and how Victorian and Edwardian masculinity ideals impact the friendships between the characters John Dowell and Edward Ashburnham and Rupert Birkin and Gerald Crich. The novels portray how hegemonic masculinity in Edwardian Britain changed from one type of masculinity, based on physical dominance, to include another, which drew on expert knowledge, capitalism and rationalism. In the texts, these masculinities are buttressed by the comparison to a male Other. In The Good Soldier, Edward Ashburnham stands for the ideals connected to dominance through his roles as landlord and soldier, and he is depicted as the “manlier” character in comparison to John Dowell. The same kind of coupling is found in Women in Love, where Gerald Crich represents both older ideals of dominance and newer ideals of expertise and rationality and Rupert Birkin is the relational opposite. Both Rupert Birkin and John Dowell are categorized as “not man” in the texts in order to emphasize that Edward Ashburnham and Gerald Crich are the “real” men. However, when the “manlier” characters have died both John Dowell and Rupert Birkin perpetuate masculine ideals, either by emulating hegemonic ideals or by redefining them. Furthermore, the Victorian and Edwardian conceptions of masculinity and male friendship inhibit the characters from forming emotionally close friendships. In both texts, emotional intimacy is portrayed as precarious and a more impersonal from of friendship that entails loyalty to a group or cause, camaraderie, is preferred.

Para ello, se evaluará cuál es el comportamiento de compra de los consumidores, entendiendo primero su satisfacción con la marca y su grado de lealtad.
Many companies have been impacted by the pet friendly trend, which has taken center stage in various commercial establishments and in the strategies developed by companies of different categories in the market. Likewise, it has also had an impact on people's buying behavior, their spending at home and their lifestyle in general. Thus, companies are taking a firm position on the social problems that affect pets, such as mistreatment and neglect of animals, and have become part of the solution by adopting these problems within their social responsibility. Assuming this reality, what is sought in this research is to understand the impact that the social responsibility shown by a retail brand as large as Plaza Vea can have on the consumer and that it is also linked to the pet friendly trend, highly valued by consumers. consumers. consumers currently. This thesis seeks to explore the spatial politics of home in Irish playwright Brian Friel’s plays: Dancing at Lughnasa (1990) and The Loves of Cass McGuire (1966). I would like to draw upon the theory of social construction of scale, feminist geography on home and other relevant theorizations on home, such as the unhomely, or uncanny, in order to explore the contested relationships between home and Irish women after the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922. Set in Ballybeg, Friel’s favorite but fictitious setting in County Donegal of the north-western Ireland, Dancing at Lughnasa portrays the political, economic and socio-cultural predicaments of five sisters, further uncovering and destabilizing the normative imaginary of Irish women, home and nation-building in the 1930s. The Loves of Cass McGuire delineates the return of an Irish diasporic woman, Cass, from New York, and her incompatibility with the Irish middle-class home, represented by her brother Harry and his household in the 1960s. Many of Friel’s plays are primarily set within the domestic places of home, including kitchen, living room, breakfast room, study, garden, and so forth in plays such as Philadelphia, Here I Come! (1964), The Loves of Cass McGuire (1966), Living Quarters (1977), Aristocrats (1979), Translations (1980), Dancing at Lughnasa (1990), Give Me Your Answer, Do! (1997) and The Home Place (2005). However, the home delineated by Friel is far from a private, intimate place for rest and recuperation; rather, it is always a problematic and contested place for the characters, who, either live in it or only come to visit, have to struggle with the normative social roles and ideologies embodied in the home of the past or the present. In other words, home depicted by Friel in his plays is never merely a setting or background in which the actions of the plays take place; instead, Friel’s plays implicitly reveal that home is not only a material house but also a social sphere constituted by multifarious, and even contradictory, social processes and relations within specifically historical and geographical contexts. More often than not, the homes in Friel’s plays are either broken or on the verge of breakdown, for they are always already permeated by the political, economic, and socio-cultural transformations beyond the scale of home, despite the desperate endeavors by some characters to create or maintain a bounded, stable home. In this thesis I will argue that The Loves of Cass McGuire and Dancing at Lughnasa represent the gendered politics of home in the newly established Ireland after political de-colonization. Moreover, they both stage the contested struggles with the normative gendered mechanism imposed on Irish women’s mobility, identity, gender and sexuality within the scale of home. The social imaginary of an Irish homely home, with its material embodiments respectively in the 1930s and 1960s, is mutually constituted with the gendered identities and relations of the household. Home in both plays means differently for different characters either within the scale of home or in the process of diaspora. Home is a site of feminized domesticity, national order, Catholic virtue and Gaelic traditions, but it is also a conflicting site of power struggles and identity contestation, especially for certain defiant women characters. On the other hand, for those eagerly to sustain a homely home in the normative vision, they also suffer the unhomely, or uncanny, sentiment, as they are compelled to recognize the recurrence of the once familiar but concealed existences and facts, embodied by certain household members, in their daily life. Furthermore, they are also pressed to confront the reality that their supposedly private home is always an open, public place perpetually reconfigured by myriad social processes and relations beyond the scale of home. In the process of representing the domestic sphere of home in both plays, Friel not only delineates the various aspects of home constituted by diverse structural forces in different contexts, but also addresses to the conflictory and fluid meanings and feelings of home for varied subjects in their individual struggles to create a place that can be called home for themselves; namely, a sense of belongingness to a certain place. Accordingly, the home depicted in Friel’s plays is always an open, intersecting sphere constituted by perpetual processes of flux of socio-spatial dynamics at multiple scales.

The study of the application of environment-friendly material to the course of visual arts in lower grades of elementary school－Taichung County Ta-Chia elementary School for the Example Abstract The research carried out teaching activities of visual arts by application of environment-friendly material, so the course was based on content of visual arts centered learning, let the objects create work of art by applying environment-friendly material and promoted the objects’ awareness of environmental protection during teaching. The purposes of the research were as below: A.Discuss the meanings of application of environment-friendly material to the course of visual arts B.Discuss the function and teaching content of environment-friendly material in the course of visual arts in lower grades of elementary school and develop teaching materials C.Compare the difference between the theory and real teaching and discuss the applicability and feasibility of courses through carrying out teaching activities, and then offer the results of the teaching and research as the references for the course of visual arts in lower grades of elementary school. Compare the difference between the theory and real teaching and discuss the applicability and feasibility of courses through carrying out teaching activities From the responses of experimental teaching and learning sheets, most objects liked the teaching content of environment-friendly material in course of visual arts in lower grades of elementary school, so the result showed that design of teaching activity could answered to the objects’ development of arts and that the application of the environment-friendly material in arts teaching according to the arts centered learning could develop the objects’ abilities of creativity and cogitation, develop their senses of beauty and show the new value of arts. The research kept on checking and correction from the gestation of the course, the design of the course to real teaching, and it showed that the application of environment-friendly material in course of visual arts in lower grades of elementary school is a concrete and workable course. Last, I addressed some suggestions according to the results of the teaching and research as the references for the administration of courses in the future.

The work deals with the specifics of interactions between mentally disabled clients in the residential facilities providing institutional care, in particular with the relations between clients and social workers/carers. It analyses the role of interpersonal relations for individual´s inherent dignity, describes cultural and religious sources which recognise dignity of the mentally disabled in the contemporary society. It also strives to explain healthy ways of communication as an important and integral part of social interactions and how such methods can help to prevent conflicts in residential facilities. There is identification of risks of asymmetric relations between clients and carers due to the organisational hierarchy and the relevant changes brought about in the course of the deinstitutionalisation process. It provides various aspects of the relationship between employees and clients in traditional and alternative forms of residential facilities which in this particular case are represented by the Arch and Camphill communities. The Conclusions provide a summary of risks and benefits resulting from friendly attitude to mentally disabled clients and risks posed by the unequal and unnatural relations in residential facilities.
