Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe purpose of this research is to study the current situation of training in korea through an in-depth analysis of two questionnaires and an interview designated for professional interpreters, translators and educators. The interviewers stated that they felt several difficulties due to nuances and levels of language, and gave us some advice. We wanted to show the necessity for change in the current teaching of interpretation and translation skills and the need to improve cultural competence. Different sources of information (field notes and observations) showed the evident differences in the curriculum and the syllabus between linguistic performance and cultural competence. They showed the deficiency in the organisation of the present education system and the curriculum. We may also gain important insights into aspects of the french and korean cultures and value systems by comparison of their cultural differences. An important part of this research undertaking was the analysis of cultural misunderstandings between the two countries. Through our personal experiences and our capacity in the field of interpretation and translation, we wanted to contribute to a new training approach

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleOur research focuses on the professionalization of French to Vietnamese - and vice versa - interpretation and translation students is part of the historical context of this training subject in Vietnam. How and in what context can we train students to the complexity of translation as it is perceived and imposed today? This question is particularly involved with the University education context in Vietnam, which is the subject of investigation in this thesis, because translating professionalization has hitherto been absent from the university curriculum, despite of its emerging concern.First, we study what the act of translation consists of, with a view to discerning its nature and specificities. Secondly, we present two surveys: one conducted in academic institutions to study translation-interpretation training curricula, the other conducted with professional Vietnamese translators and interpreters. Thirdly, we will compare the training curricula with the professional practices in reality in order to analyze the difficulties and challenges that would be faced by university education of translating and interpreting professions

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis covers both the sociological context of translation and the training of translators in Nigeria. Translator and interpreters training as a branch of applied translation studies, according to Holmes’ map, is a very important field of research that has been attracting the interest of researchers and teachers in the field from almost everywhere in the world, since the early 1990s. However, very few recent studies are available on this subject in Nigeria. Furthermore, according to many researchers (see Durieux, 2005; Kelly, 2005; Kiraly, 2005 and Fiola, 2003a, for example), the knowledge and consideration of market needs are essential in implementing an effective training program for professional translators and interpreters. In the case of Nigeria, there is a noticeable mismatch between past or existing translator and interpreter training programs and the labour market. Against this background, our thesis, which takes the form of a descriptive research with pragmatic implications (Van der Maren, 2004), aims to analyze the problem in order to propose possible solutions. It also falls within the scope of action research as its ultimate goal is to improve the practice of the twin professions of translation and interpretation, particularly in Nigeria and by extension, in Africa. To this end, this study was conducted using a two-pronged research methodology: an enquiry based on semi-structured interviews and a comparative study of training programs. Thus, we interrogated representatives of twenty-three organizations, which from the onset, were considered as actual or potential users (employers) in the Nigerian translation and interpretation market, with the aim of identifying their needs, and determining how those needs, if any, are being met. In addition, nineteen graduate programs in translation and interpretation were studied in an analytical and comparative manner with a view to identifying their content. They are: two programs offered in France, two in Canada, two in Cameroon, two in Ghana and eleven in Nigeria. On the one hand, the results of our market needs analysis reveal that translation and interpretation needs actually exist in Nigeria, but that these needs are far from being sufficiently met. On the other hand, in the light of the comparative analysis of translation and interpretation training programs that we conducted, it is clear that the existing programs in Nigeria would need to be reviewed, while new ones have to be put in place, taking into consideration current and future market needs. Finally, we proposed strategies towards optimizing professional translator and interpreter training in Nigeria, including a reference framework that can be used for the new programs being recommended.

S'ensuivent une description du fonctionnement multilingue de la Commission et du Parlement européens, ainsi que diverses propositions originales visant à résoudre le problème tant redouté d'une éventuelle « babélisation » de l'Europe.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis PhD research focuses on multimodal interactional competences in interpreters’ education. Previous research has shown that non-verbal semiotic resources like gaze, gesture, and body positioning play an important role in communication outcome during interpreter-mediated interactions (Wadensjö 1998, 2001). The co-construction of coordinating actions (Baraldi & Gavioli, 2012) and the central position of the interpreter in these plurilingual triadic encounters require, in addition to translation skills, specific interactional skills which include the use of multimodality as a resource. However, this resource is rarely taken into account in interpreter training and education (Krystallidou, 2014). Consequently, we may question if and how interpreter students acquire these skills. To this end, a qualitative study was carried out with a group of 10 interpreter students at the University of Bologna. Their performances during the role play sessions in a learning context were filmed and analysed in order to answer the following research questions: what nonverbal semiotic resources are found in dialogue interpreting students when simulating interpreter-mediated interactions in a learning context? What purpose do they serve? How do they vary? After transcription and annotation with ELAN2 software, a descriptive analysis was carried out on students’ use of multimodal resources during role plays. This allowed a selection of excerpts to be analysed following a Multimodal Conversation Analysis Method (Mondada, 2018, 2019). This fine-grained analysis shed light on a series of salient situations and the different ways in which the embodied and situated actions impact their outcome. In addition, the students took part in semi-directed self-reflection interviews which were also recorded. These were designed to give us access to the students’ criteria and level of multimodal interactional awareness. The overall results show relatively little usage of multimodality as a resource. However, the analysis highlights numerous individual differences and allows identification of issues that should be considered in order to optimise role play activities in dialogue interpreter training with the inclusion of multimodality as a resource
