Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIn the context of environmental impact reduction of the passenger and freight transport sectors, electric mobility is set to grow in the coming years. Electric vehicle (EV) charging has a natural potential for electricity demand flexibility as connection periods are generally longer than the necessary charging time, especially for individual vehicles. This thesis focuses on the study of this demand-side flexibility, which induces a reduction of the operational costs and carbon emissions of the electricity system, in particular in scenarios with substantial diffusion of electric mobility. The analysis begins with a discussion of the decarbonization pathways of the French transport and electricity generation sectors as well as their mutual interactions. This is followed by a description of the state-of-the-art methods for modeling EVs and their impact on different aspects of the electricity system. A model to generate EV connection and electrical demand data based on transport survey data is then proposed. Finally, the integration of these data in an hourly dispatch model of the European power system is presented and illustrated on various scenarios of the electric mobility development by 2040. This methodology allows the comparison of the foremost EV smart charging modes, as well as the identification of the parameters that most influence the value of this demand-side flexibility: the price of fossil fuels and the level of diffusion of the various EV smart charging modes

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIn a context of demographic growth in which natural resources are more and more limited, optimized management of water and power networks is required. Changes in electricity markets regulation in several countries have recently enabled effective integration of Demand Response mechanisms in power systems, making it possible to involve electricity consumers in the real-time balance of the power system. Through its flexible components (variable-speed pumps, tanks), drinking water systems, which are huge electricity consumers, are suitable candidates for energy-efficient Demand Response mechanisms. However, these systems are often managed independently of power system operation, for both economic and operational reasons. In this thesis, the objective is the evaluation of the economic and the ecological values related to the integration of drinking water systems flexibility into power system operation through french demand response mechanisms. An analysis of the architecture of french electricity markets is first conducted, allowing to target the most suitable demand response mechanisms considering water systems operating constraints. Some mathematical models to optimize water systems flexibility are then proposed and solved through original heuristics, integrating uncertainties about water demands, market prices and pumping stations availability. Numerical results, which are discussed using three real water systems in France, integrate the economic aspects inclunding risks, operational and ecological aspects. Significant reductions in water systems operating costs are estimated through the optimization of demand response power bids on the French spot power market during peak times. In parallel, uncertainties consideration secures the operation of water systems in real time, and makes it possible to manage economic risks related to the power grid balancing. In addition, significant savings in CO2 emissions, estimated to around 400 tons per day in France, can be achieved by reducing electricity production from fossil sources

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe rising share of renewable sources, residential consumers as well as novel energy transition policies call for new energy management strategies to deal with renewable energy sources uncertainty issues and to provide cost-competitive flexibility services. This thesis focuses on flexibility related usecases applied to residential microgrids. Presented sizing approach uses both mono and multiobjective particle swarm optimization to optimize both solar generation and storage taking into account cost competitiveness, user comfort and renewable energy penetration while respecting local regulations. First energy management approach compares 24 and 48h time-horizons for energy arbitrage and assess extended possibilities provided by a wider horizon. Second energy arbitrage approach focuses on energy injection accuracy in a bid-based market context. A novel auto-regressive short term solar irradiation forecast method suitable for peninsular weather is proposed and compared with a reference method. Regarding the sizing optimization, results showed that proposed optimization can generate bill savings for households. Nevertheless, due to current storage cost, off-grid operation is still an unreliable option regarding cost-competitiveness. Both presented energy management strategies showed profitability gains compared to their respective reference. To conclude, strategies showed costcompetitive operation and ability to mitigate supply and demand imbalances. Association of renewable energy and microgrids abilities for communities is an excellent opportunity for cleaner, more reliable and cheaper energy

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis presents an optimization framework under uncertainty for the case in which an aggregator manages residential storage devices and renewable energy as sources of flexibility, participating directly in the day-ahead energy market and offering services to minimize operational costs. Residential flexibility assets are composed by batteries, electric water heaters and PV panels, which are optimally managed and controlled by an aggregator. The optimization model also considers battery’s cycling aging cost which allows capturing the non-linear relation between depth of discharge and total life cycling. The following sources of uncertainty are considered: electrical and thermal demand, PV production and energy prices. These uncertainties are included in the mathematical model by means of robust optimization theory and a methodology based on Pareto-optimality is proposed to detect the solutions with the best trade-off between cost and risk. In addition, this thesis presents a local flexibility management strategy, which is based on two products: 1) flexibility bids into a local market; and 2) local constraint support for the Distribution System Operator (DSO) in the form of maximum allowed net power and net ramping rate. An adjustable robust optimization model is proposed for coordinated management of resources and allows to demonstrate that the strategic bidding framework is robust enough to enable coordinated participation in three different marketplaces: energy, local flexibility and bilateral trading with the DSO

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe desire to increase the share of renewable energies in the energy mix leads to an increase inshare of volatile and non-controllable energy and makes it difficult to meet the supply-demand balance. A solution to manage anyway theses energies in the current electrical grid is to deploy new energy storage and demand response systems across the country to counter balance under or over production. In order to integrate all these energies systems to the supply and demand balance process, there are gathered together within a virtual flexibility aggregation power plant which is then seen as a virtual power plant. As for any other power plant, it is necessary to compute its production plan. Firstly, we propose in this PhD thesis an architecture and management method for an aggregation power plant composed of any type of energies systems. Then, we propose algorithms to compute the production plan of any types of energy systems satisfying all theirs constraints. Finally, we propose an approach to compute the production plan of the aggregation power plant in order to maximize its financial profit while complying with all the constraints of the grid

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleAs electricity is hard to store, the balance between production and consumption must be strictly maintained. With the integration of intermittent renewable energies into the production mix, the management of the balance becomes complex. At the same time, the deployment of smart meters suggests demand response. More precisely, sending signals - such as changes in the price of electricity - would encourage users to modulate their consumption according to the production of electricity. The algorithms used to choose these signals have to learn consumer reactions and, in the same time, to optimize them (exploration-exploration trade-off). Our approach is based on bandit theory and formalizes this sequential learning problem. We propose a first algorithm to control the electrical demand of a homogeneous population of consumers and offer T⅔ upper bound on its regret. Experiments on a real data set in which price incentives were offered illustrate these theoretical results. As a “full information” dataset is required to test bandit algorithms, a consumption data generator based on variational autoencoders is built. In order to drop the assumption of the population homogeneity, we propose an approach to cluster households according to their consumption profile. These different works are finally combined to propose and test a bandit algorithm for personalized demand side management
