Contributing reliable data sets to support conservation efforts is currently the most important target of taxonomy and faunistics, yet the lack of statistically significant data makes unambiguous recommendations based on actual biodiversity mostly elusive. Especially the abundance distribution of large and ecologically diverse groups as a prerequisite to assess regional differences is in general not available. In this study a comprehensive faunistic record of Phoridae comprising about 290 species and more than 62000 specimens from a single location in NE-Westphalia caught over five years in a Malaise trap and occasionally by further methods is presented. The study will be distributed among two parts: I) Genera except Megaselia. II) Megaselia. This first part is devoted to 71 species of Phoridae except Megaselia: their sex ratio, abundance distribution, rarefaction and a thorough presentation of rare species and species new to the area of investigation including annotations concerning morphology, ecology, distribution and used literature. Where feasible a photo showing important characters has been added.

Abstract Lake Geča is located in the northern part of the Protected Bird Territory Košická kotlina. With a surface area of 250 ha it is the largest water area in the complex of a number of gravel lake areas located close to the villages Čaňa and Geča. From 2014—2016 we used the method of capture and ringing to focus on observations of transmigrating passerine birds species. This pilot study included serological testing of selected passerine species for the presence of specific antibodies to Usutu virus (USUV) by the virus neutralization test. During the field research we obtained 1077 data about ringed birds of 43 species. We received one report about the presence of a bird ringed in our study from another location in Slovakia, and 3 long distance (above 100 km) reports from Hungary, Czechia and Croatia. No specific antibodies against USUV were detected in the birds tested.

An example of a photographic faunistic study of butterflies implemented in Croatia is presented herewith. The survey was conducted in the near surroundings of Donji Emovci village, near Požega, Slavonia, between 2009 and 2013. The surveyed area consists mostly of a mosaic of different kinds of monocultures, scattered grasslands and forest fragments. Seventy-nine butterfly species could have been reliably identified from the photographs, several of which are rare or interesting records for Croatia (e.g. Colias erate, Parnassius mnemosyne and Cupido decoloratus). This study shows that butterfly photography can indeed be a useful tool for faunistic studies, although additional methods should be used to gain complete species lists.

In order to contribute to the identification of the current faunistic composition of the Moroccan Mediterranean western coastline foraminifera, sediment from 4 stations have been analyzed, along with some abiotic parameters (pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and salinity), In order to characterize their populations, different Ecological indices were calculated and compared in the various samples. A total of 3451 individuals belonging to 14 species were recognized (90,26% hyaline, 9,74% porcelaneous, and none agglutinated test was found), all assemblages were dominated mainly by Elphidium crispum, Ammonia beccarii, and subordinately by Quinqueloculina sp1 and Heterolepa dutemplei. All sampling sites showed remarkable similarity in the Foraminiferal assemblages, and the Oued Nigro station is considered the wealthiest and densest site, whereas Oued Martil records the lowest values of those parameters. On the other hand, the Sample from M'diq presents the lowest diversity index even if it is the second in terms of density. The faunistic analysis had also allowed the observation of some morphological abnormalities only found in the Oued Nigro station, affecting some individuals' tests. A small-sized chamber mainly manifests the abnormal appearances in the spiral whorls and calcification defects in the calcareous wall.

In this study, we investigated a species composition of the water fleas (Crustacea: Cladocera) in the water bodies of the left bank of the Lena River near Yakutsk and its vicinities. Local faunistic associations characteristics of this region were identified using a statistical approach based on the binomial distribution function. As a result of the study, 68 taxa were identified and eight very distinct groups of taxa constituting the cores of local faunistic associations of the branchiopod crustaceans in various water bodies and/or various biotopes within one water body were drawn out. We have demonstrated that the water bodies of the Lena River valley and the watershed differ both in species composition and in associations of the Cladocera. At least one species association of the Cladocera is confined to the ponds with a visible anthropogenic influence. Thus, it is possible to identify not only species that are typical for urban water bodies, but also local faunistic associations, the presence of which in the city indicates a significant anthropogenic pressure. At the same time, the identified clusters can be interpreted in terms of our knowledge of the individual species preferences to water bodies of different types and different ecological zones of a certain water body.

This research provides general guidelines for monitoring the environmental quality state of the marine ecosystems using benthic microfauna as a bioindicator tool in the Western Moroccan Mediterranean coastal areas. The current faunistic composition of 18 superficial sediment samples collected in areas having a wild range of environmental conditions have been the subject of factorial correspondence and hierarchical classification analysis, allowing us to follow the distribution patterns of the benthic assemblages. Considering the influence of both hydrodynamic and sedimental conditions on the superficial sediment, recognized in this study as the main environmental factors affecting the distribution of species in this type of environment, we were able to delineate three environmental units, with specific faunistic response related to the corresponding environmental conditions. Leading us to identify the optimal sampling area for the biomonitoring surveys in this region. Shallow and high-energy coastal areas were found to limit data collection and the representation of the sampling area, while low-energy areas were identified as ideal for environmental surveys, showcasing strong faunistic response to stressful conditions. we recommend to conduct the ecological monitoring studies in the 10–30-meter depth range, where the environmental conditions favor the assessment of the current environmental quality state by the benthic microfauna.

Annotation:
Excavations of the Eneolithic workshop site for making stone chopping tools the Fofanovo XIII on the western shore of Lake Onega (second half of the IV Millennium calBC) provided representative and faunistic assemblage consisting of relatively well preserved bones for the frst time in the Karelian archaeology. The assemblage makes it possible to study different aspects of the activity of the ancient population related to the exploitation of faunistic resources. The article presents the results of a seasonality estimation that is based on the analysis of the bone remains (vertebrae) of the absolutely prevailing in the assemblage specie – the zander. The authors’ analysis testifes that zander capturing was taking place during the snow-less season. This result confrms interpretation of the site as a specialized complex for seasonal specifc activities and for year-round habitation.

Annotation:
Detailed distribution pattern of colubrid snakes in Serbia is still inadequately described, despite the long historical study. In this paper, we provide accurate distribution of seven species, with previously published and newly accumulated faunistic records compiled. Comparative analysis of faunas among all Balkan countries showed that Serbian colubrid fauna is among the most distinct (together with faunas of Slovenia and Romania), due to small number of species. Zoogeographic analysis showed high chorotype diversity of Serbian colubrids: seven species belong to six chorotypes. South-eastern Serbia (Pčinja River valley) is characterized by the presence of all colubrid species inhabiting our country, and deserves the highest conservation status at the national level. This study should provide the basis for further, more comprehensive faunistic research, as the data on distribution of colubrid species in our country are far from complete, with large distribution “gaps”, especially in northern and central parts of Serbia.

Caddisfly faunistic and ecological features were studied at 14 sampling sites along the catchment area of the Dobra River. Adults were collected monthly, over a period of 13 months (from early November 2009 until the end of November 2010), using ultraviolet (UV) light trap and entomological net. Physico-chemical parameters of water and air were also measured at all sampling sites. The study encompassed several segments of caddisfly fauna: the composition, new records, the distribution of all recorded species and seasonal dynamics. A total number of 77 species were recorded, out of which 15 species and four genera were new records for Croatian caddisfly fauna. The CCA analysis showed that the water temperature and the altitude had the highest impact on distribution of caddisfly fauna in this area. The results of this study contribute to the increase of faunistic and ecological knowledge of the Croatian caddisflies.

We provide new data on the distribution of 14 long-legged fly species (Diptera, Brachycera, Dolichopodidae) belonging to 10 genera from the Fars Province, Southern Iran. The genera Diaphorus Meigen, 1824, Dolichopus Latreille, 1796, Hydrophorus Fallén, 1823, and Syntormon Loew, 1857 are recorded in the Fars Province for the first time. Dolichopus lairdi Olejnicek, Mohsen & Ouda, 1995 is newly added to the Iranian insect fauna. Four species, Asyndetus albifrons Loew, 1869, Asyndetus fallahzadehi Grichanov, 2019, Chrysotus suavis Loew, 1857, and Medetera pallipes (Zetterstedt, 1843) were the most abundant in the collected material. Available information on geographical distribution and short taxonomic comments for each species are also included.
