Tłumaczenie tekstu: Derek Edwards. 2005. Discursive Psychology. In: Handbook of language and social interaction, K.L. Fitch, R.E. Sanders (eds.), 257–273. Mahwah: Erlbaum.

The paper studies product design components from the human-environmental relationship perspective. Stimulus responses and customer attitude towards environmental cues are of main interest to marketers and space designers. Findings suggest that a combination of different design elements, such as functional, aesthetic and symbolic impression design influence people behavior and have a direct impact on brand image and product success. The study is a conceptual paper and aims to discuss previous theories, methodologies and applications used in real-world settings regarding the interaction between design and consumer behavior.

Environmental psychology is by definition one of the main disciplines for individual behavioral change with regard to sustainability issues. However, it has not been as visible or successful as one could wish. We present a four-step process that describes the passage of knowledge from science to policy: Basic research generates pieces of reliable knowledge; transdisciplinary research includes the views and knowledge of the stakeholders that are concerned, and tests results in the field; dissemination brings results, tools, and techniques to the attention of the public; finally, policy creates structures that provide guiding behavioral contexts. The various frames of understanding in the sectors of basic and transdisciplinary science, the media, and policy making are discussed, as well as ways of addressing them. Some attention is brought to the embedding contexts that foster the generation of compatible and useful scientific results. We conclude with a discussion of the relation between scientists and societal actors with a focus on trustworthiness.

In my commentary on the papers in this special section of European Psychologist, I note that the focus of past environmental psychology on changing the human environment to increase people’s well-being has in contemporary environmental psychology been replaced by a focus on changing people and their behavior to preserve the human environment. This change is justified by current concerns in society about the ongoing destruction of the human environment. Yet, the change of focus should not lead to neglecting the role of changing the environment for changing people’s behavior. I argue that it may actually be the most effective behavior change tool. I still criticize approaches focusing on single behaviors for frequently being insufficient. I endorse an approach that entails coercive measures implemented after research has established that changing consumption styles harming the environment does not harm people. Such a broader approach would alert researchers to undesirable (in particular indirect) rebound effects. My view on application is that research findings in (environmental) psychology are difficult to communicate to those who should apply them, not because they are irrelevant but because they, by their nature, are qualitative and conditional. Scholars from other disciplines failing to disclose this have an advantage in attracting attention and building trust.

Annotation:
The fierce competition in modern society has brought great pressure on people, resulting in increasingly serious mental health problems. Due to the relatively late development of psychological counseling services in China, the construction of psychological counseling rooms is still in its infancy, and there are few achievements in studying psychological counseling rooms from the perspective of environmental psychology. Environmental psychology is a discipline that studies the relationship between man and the environment, and it pays attention to the influence of the environment on man's psychology, behavior, and cognition. In the field of psychological counseling, the application of environmental psychology theory is of great significance to improve the effect of psychological counseling. Based on environmental psychology, this paper discusses the importance of the environmental design of a psychological consultation room. By analyzing the space layout, privacy protection, atmosphere building, science and technology integration, green elements, and barrier-free design, this paper puts forward a design scheme for a psychological consultation room that is more in line with humanistic needs. This scheme aims to create a comfortable, safe, and efficient psychological counseling environment for visitors and improve the effect of psychological counseling.
