A Review of: Mei, X. Y., Aas, E., & Eide, O. (2020). Applying the servicescape model to understand student experiences of a Norwegian academic library. Library & Information Science Research, 42(4), Article 101051. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.lisr.2020.101051 Abstract Objective – To understand how the physical environment of an academic library influences user behaviour. Design – Qualitative explorative. Setting – An academic library at a large university in Norway. Subjects – Twelve bachelor’s and master’s students at a business school. Methods – The researchers used a two-step approach, with the servicescape model from the marketing discipline serving as a theoretical framework. Subjects completed several tasks involving drawing and elaborating on their usage of the library space, utilizing a bird’s-eye floor plan. This was followed by semi-structured interviews to explore how subjects use and experience the library facilities. Main Results – Students found it important to be physically comfortable and to have enough room for the items they need while studying. The library in this study was seen more as a place for studying than for social interactions, and while some subjects reported being motivated by seeing students around them studying, others said they are distracted by having other students in their sightline. The time of the semester appeared to influence user experience and satisfaction with the library space, with spaces conducive to group work desired at some points in the semester and with single seating preferred when individual exams are taking place. Conclusion – The library’s physical environment triggers cognitive and emotional responses in users. These responses influence how frequently they visit the library and how well they are able to concentrate while there. Because academic library spaces have an impact on student learning, it is important to design libraries with user comfort in mind. Libraries should accommodate the different ways students work throughout the semester by providing flexible study space configurations.

The article is devoted to the topical problem of interaction of the electronic library systems (ELS) with the electronic information and educational environment (EIEE) of the higher education institutions. The current Legislative Decrees in Russia interpret ELS and EL as interchangeable terms, where the ELS term is specified (as opposed to EIEE). The analysis of several ELS, conducted by the Universities of culture and arts, has revealed considerable shortcomings, among which there are the significant cost of connecting to the systems and the low quality of specialized content. For universities of culture and arts there is offered the solution through organization of bi-directional interaction between the electronic resources, created by university professors, and electronic resources available to the students of these universities. There is described the experience of practical application of the model in the period of 2012-2014, as well as outlined perspectives for its further development through monitoring of the structure of book supply of the University according to certain parameters.

The aim of this paper and research was to analyse the efficiency of the compiler-generated code for the graphics library and to present results obtained by optimization for the MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) architecture. Libpng is the official Portable Network Graphics reference library for use in applications that read, create, and manipulate PNG (Portable Network Graphics) raster image files. Given the data structure in the PNG files, as well as the capabilities of the MIPS instruction set, it was expected that significant improvements could be made. Graphic library libpng is optimized by using MIPS instruction set extension and tested on MIPS Malta 74K platform. Test results show, that by using MIPS optimization test, execution times are substantially improved. Our libpng optimization have achieved performance increase of 10 %–78 % depending on optimized routine.

Abstract Background Many CML patients treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) eventually develop resistance as a result of ABL1 kinase domain (KD) mutations, and sequential treatment with different TKIs may select for multiple BCR-ABL1 mutations. Whether multiple mutations arise in distinct clones (in trans, or polyclonal mutations) or instead are present within the same BCR-ABL1 molecule (in cis, or compound mutations), has been shown to have important implications with respect to TKI sensitivities (Eide, C.A. et al., Blood 2011). Distinguishing between polyclonal and compound mutations, or mutation phasing, for the ABL1 KD has not been clinically practical with standard mutation detection methods. Here we have developed a highly sensitive next-generation sequencing (NGS) assay on the Ion Torrent PGM along with a proprietary data analysis pipeline that together enable deep sequencing of the BCR-ABL1 KD and neighboring domains with a 1% limit of detection and quantitative reporting of mutation phasing. Methods RT and long range PCR was performed to amplify BCR-ABL1 e1a2/3, e13a2/3, and e14a2/3 fusion transcripts and the PCR products were enzymatically randomly fragmented and ligated with Ion Torrent sequencing adaptors. Size-selected libraries were quantified, pooled, amplified with the OneTouch system and sequenced with the Ion Torrent PGM using 400 bp sequencing chemistry. Sequencing data were analyzed with Torrent Suite 3.4.2 with variant frequency cutoff adjusted to 1%. Variants were further annotated with a proprietary analysis pipeline and variant report was produced after manually reviewing variants by Integrative Genomics Viewer. If more than one non-synonymous variant was reported in a sample, a proprietary phasing analysis pipeline was applied to report the mutation spectrum of all of the combinations of multiple mutations in the sample. Results To validate the accuracy of the sequencing method which employs 400 bp sequencing chemistry, we compared this assay with our previously validated BCR-ABL1 NGS assay based on Ion Torrent 200 bp sequencing chemistry for a set of clinical specimens from CML patients previously treated with TKI. Results were highly concordant and similarly sensitive, with 11/11 variants (frequencies ranging from 2% to 100%) identified with comparable frequencies by both methods. To evaluate the specificity of the phasing analysis, an artificial sample was created by mixing two samples (b2_10 and b2_6) with 6 distinct variants present at ratio of 1:19. Because variants are unique in each sample, any compound mutation composed of b2_10 variant and b2_6 variant identified would be false positive. The false positive error rate (percentage of b2_6 variant as compound mutation with b2_10 variant and vice versa) ranged from 0 – 0.6%, which was consistent with sequencing error rate. We conservatively define a compound mutation as true if it is present in at least 5% of any one of the component variants in the compound mutation. Mutation detection and phasing analysis were reproducible on different chips (314 v2 and 318 v2) and different library preps from the same long range PCR product of BCR-ABL1. Table 1 shows the mutation spectrum from sample b2_6. Of the four variants detected, L248V and G250E were mutually exclusive (in trans), while T315I and M351T were present as compound mutations with each other and, separately, with either L248V or G250E. Notably, >86% of the molecules harbored single mutations, and no compound mutations containing more than 2 variants were observed. Conclusions We have developed and validated a sensitive NGS assay that enables deep sequencing of the BCR-ABL1 KD and neighboring domains along with quantitative mutational phasing. This method has been applied in evaluating >250 clinical specimens for a clinical trial of a third-generation TKI(results reported separately). The ability to easily determine the mutation phasing of a CML patients’ mutation profile using this assay will allow for investigations into compound mutation-based resistance mechanisms and may be used to better guide treatment decisions. This paper explores new methods to increase the level of safety of data transfer between sensors and electronic control units (ECUs) in automotive communication. A new model of basic sensors to be used in automotive electronics is proposed. This model contains hardware modules that implement the end-to-end communication protection (E2E) mechanism, as defined by the Automotive Open System Architecture (AUTOSAR) standard. By adding this feature inside the sensors, it is possible that, in addition to increasing the safety level, these sensors can be directly connected to the network ECUs via standard communication buses (e.g., Local Interconnect Network (LIN), Controller Area Network (CAN), Flexray, etc.). This paper describes the model, design, and mapping (in a Field Programmable Gate Array device (FPGA)) of the hardware E2E module capable of generating the Cyclic Redundancy Code (CRC) and counter signal for a customized message. This message represents the output of the new sensor E2E module used in a safety communication as requested by the automotive E2E standard. The model is validated also by comparing the data output of the E2E hardware with the data output of the AUTOSAR software E2E library. Finally, future needs and directions are suggested in this area.

Anonymous credential (AC) systems allow users, obtaining a credential on a set of attributes, to anonymously prove ownership of the credential and then to selectively disclose a subset of attributes without leaking any other attributes. Recently, a new type of AC, called keyed-verification anonymous credential (KVAC), has been proposed, which indicates that the credential issuer is also the verifier. Conceptually, the KVAC system is suitable for being used as employee cards, library access cards or eIDs (electronic ID cards). However, since the limited process power of smart cards, most of the existing KVAC systems are hard to be implemented on them. In addition, none of the existing KVAC systems provide traceability to obtain the user’s identity if anyone tries to misbehave with KVAC. In this paper, we present the first efficient and traceable KVAC system designated for smart cards. Our scheme provides the following security properties: unforgeability, anonymity, traceability and unlinkability. To demonstrate the efficiency and feasibility, we present an implementation of our scheme on standard Multos smart cards. The implementation results show that our scheme is efficient enough for practical use.

Polish library legislation has a strong tradition. Ever since the re-establishment of the Polish state in 1918, Polish librarians have been striving towards a legal basis for the library system in the country. Their efforts ultimately led to the Decree of April 17, 1946 on libraries and on the protection of library collections, which was then replaced by the law on libraries in 1968. As part of the transformation after 1989, a new library law came into effect on 27 June 1997. This thesis will deal with the law-making for libraries in Poland. It will introduce the German reader to the Polish understanding of the terms 'library law' and 'library legislation', provide an overview of how the history of Polish library laws unfolded, describe their content and shed some light on how they are implemented. Based on the theoretical findings, the subsequent empirical part of the study will demonstrate the significance of the Polish laws for the Polish library system. In doing so, it will focus on the suitability of this legal basis as an instrument for shaping and re-shaping the Polish library system. The significance of the Polish library laws for the Polish library system is examined with the help of expert interviews. Surveys were held in Polish with five librarians who know the ins and outs of library legislation in Poland. Their comments serve to the evaluation of Polish library laws in regard to their significance.

Departing from the serials crisis, this paper seeks to point out the areas of conflict, which are dominated by three principal agents: the scientific community, publishing houses and libraries. In order to facilitate interaction between these agents the open access movement has been formed, which receives considerable support from the librarianship. Abutted to the Anglo-American university presses, it has been postulated in the scientific community that German universities engage in publishing activities too. The focal point of this work is - apart from an assessment of the current situation and an overview of the Anglo-American university presses - a critical account of the German university press. On the basis of qualitative interviews different publishing houses are critically assessed in terms of their services offered. In a short excursus this paper describes subject-related publishing activities in the context of the open access movement. In conclusion this paper will expound the problems of German university presses – and formulate an outlook as to what may be the future course of the industry.

World-wide electronic university libraries, with wide accessibility, are considered to be essential units in both academic and nonacademic information utilization. Within this context, the developed world wasted no time improving and expanding their libraries by applying the technology leverage offered by cloud computing. As institutions from developed countries expanded the use of cloud technology for library applications, it became clear that this technology was highly vulnerable to security threats. Nevertheless, this did not retard advanced nations from proceeding. Undaunted, they forged ahead and now are busy building appropriate cloud computing security infrastructures. Despite progress in this area, very little has been done to expand the university libraries in the sub-Saharan region using cloud computing technologies. Even less has been done in these developing countries to plan and develop the building of library computing security infrastructures. It was in view of this deficit that the University of Namibia's (UNAM) University Library electronic Identities Authentication (UL-eIDA) system was conceived to build a cloud computing security framework model suitable for the sub-Saharan region.

Annotation:
We have previously proposed a jointtransform correlator incorporating an optical disk as a reference library, for which the reference image is parallelly read out and directly used to obtain joint transform with the real-time input image. The architecture combines the features of the conventional jointtransform correlator and the compact disk optical head. In this paper we shall propose two joint-transform correlator schemes that use optical disks; namely, the equal-image-dimension (EID) and the direct-joint-transform (DJT) schemes. In both schemes a real-time input image is obtained through a video camera and is displayed on an electrically addressable spatial light modulator (SLM). To alleviate the dimensional mismatch of the input images, the reference image is first magnified and then displayed on an SLM by means of the EID scheme. For the DJT scheme, the Fourier transform of the input image is magnified before being combined with the Fourier spectrum of the reference image. Systems analysis and design of both architectures are presented, and experimental demonstrations of these two techniques are also provided.

The digital transformation is concerning people in several aspects. In working environments of many workers, major changes and challenges are becoming apparent because of the proceeding dissemination of information and communication technologies (ICT). With the implementation of new digital technologies and digitalized work processes, the demands and burdens of employees are also inevitably changing. The rapid pace of technological development can increase mental strain on employees (Gimpel 2018), and as a result, impairment in the form of stress can occur among individual employees. Especially, public administrations are under pressure, not only because they are facing a digitalization-driven transformation, but also because employees are encountered with an increased workload in their daily work due to legislative requirements. The study focuses on public administrations in Germany and aims to answer the overarching question of how the digital transformation can succeed by involving the employees in the process of change. Its also analysed how to design mental stress factors in a human-oriented way. For this purpose, the stress factors of digital work are defined as the following, according to GIMPEL et al. (2020):•Invasion of privacy & performance monitoringConcern about invasion of privacy and favouring the perception of surveillance. •Modification & complexityContinuing ICT changes and upgrades unsettle users and create uncertainty. The complexity of new technologies leads users to feel inadequate regarding their computer skills. Individuals are forced to constantly learn new technologies and undergo frequent educational trainings. •Fewer completed work tasksDigitization can make it more difficult to assess completed tasks and can lead to the feeling of hardly making any work progress.•Interruptions in the workdayThe use of ICT often introduces frequent interruptions into individuals' daily work routine, leading to increased stress and lower productivity.•Unavailability and unreliabilityDue to e.g. organizational restrictions new technologies are prohibited and it comes to an increased workload because of unstable running systems. •Information overloadThe workload increases due to higher amount of provided information and acceleration of work.•Overload and invasionDue to the dissolution of boundaries between work and private life employees force to work faster and longer where ICTs is used. They feel of being constantly reachable and a shorter response time is expected. In the paper, results of an interview study will be presented. As part of the study, 19 semi-structured interviews have been conducted between the beginning of August 2022 and the beginning of November 2022 with a total of 17 experts from public administrations in Germany who deal with digital transformation in their administrations and three consultants who support public administration in the transformation process. In the interview study, first the above-mentioned stress factors of digital work affect employees (with and without management responsibility) in public administrations were be determined. Then, with the help of an interview guide, insights were gained which concrete measures can be taken to involve employees to reduce psychological stress factors. Furthermore, an outlook is given which competencies need to be developed in the long term about dealing with digital transformation, both on part of the employees and in the role as a manager, and which actions can be derived regarding manager-employee relationships. The qualitative content analysis of the transcribed interviews will be carried out according to the general content analytical process model according to MAYRING (2022). In the Paper, a focus is laid on the category formation of the content analysis and the summary of the text material with the most important findings. LiteratureGimpel, Henner et al.
