In relation to the ongoing changes in the sphere of education in Latvia based on a sustainable development of education, concerns about the sustainability of the education of home economics in the circumstances of a changing environment have become deeper. On the basis of the ecological approach new development potentialities for the improvement of the education of home economics have been formulated – the development scenario, the applied arts scenario and the scenario of the home environment economics. The target of these scenarios is harmonious development of the student’s individuality, inheriting the cultural properties, creative activity in the development of the cultural environment and development of the quality living space. The scenarios were worked out on the basis of experience of the formal education and non-formal learning in the development of the subject of home economics as well as on the basis of interaction of the educational environment and cultural environment.

Background & Aims One of the challenges in accurate and macro planning for the future is the uncertainty involved in estimating the future and rapid changes in various health-related fields. A powerful tool that can predict future competitive environments is the scenario planning tool. The current research aims to provide scenarios for the future of nursing education in Iran. Materials & Methods This exploratory research was conducted in 2022. In the first stage, the drivers and trends of nursing education were identified using meta-synthesis, interviews, and the Delphi method. Then, the influence and uncertainty of the identified trends were rated using the opinions of a panel of experts. In the next step, using influence/uncertainty diagrams, the key factors for writing the scenario were identified. Scenarios were then designed by Scenario Wizard software, version 4.11, and strategies were presented. Results The experts agreed on 6 drivers and 31 trends. With five key uncertainties, the scenarios were designed with three optimistic, realistic, and pessimistic assumptions. According to the size of the matrix and its dimensions (15×15), four problem-oriented, ethics-oriented, maintaining the status quo, and limited educational system scenarios were designed. The validity of the scenarios was examined according to feasibility, internal consistency, usefulness, and differentiability. Conclusion Each of the four designed scenarios has the potential to be realized, but their occurrence depends on the current plans. The use of future planning methods, such as the scenario planning tool, can be used as a warning system for awareness of opportunities and threats in Iran's health system before a crisis.

India represents a country that was neither directly affected nor involved with the Holocaust. As the timeline of the Holocaust overlaps the timeline of the struggle for freedom for the Indian subcontinent, the later events overshadow the former. Holocaust education is neither mandatory nor prevalent in India. Equating the partition of India with the Holocaust and tagging the Holocaust as one of the genocides, represents one of the few misconceptions about the Holocaust in India that often strips off the uniqueness of the catastrophic event. My article describes the present status of Holocaust education in schools and universities. The survey stems from the standard books used in Indian schools and my personal experience as an educator. The article not only articulates the need of creating awareness regarding the Holocaust in India but also traces a few examples, which illuminate the fact that India proved a haven for Jewish refugees during the Holocaust. The need of the hour is to recognize such connections, which would serve as the appropriate entry wedges to create awareness regarding Holocaust education in India.

The Joint Commission reported that communication failures in United States hospitals contribute to 30% of all malpractice claims, and in 2008, The Joint Commission listed the improvement of effective communication among healthcare providers as a National Patient Safety Goal. The purpose of this practice-focused project was to develop a scenario-based communication simulation for implementation approval by a panel of experts. The approved curriculum was designed to integrate a communication-based simulation scenario into the nurse residency program of a large, urban medical center to improve new graduate nurse communication skills, increase nurse communication competency and self-efficacy, and decrease communication errors. Kolb's experiential learning theory guided the simulation-based educational project. The Delphi technique was used to achieve consensus, which was achieved with 1 Delphi round. The education curriculum was presented to a 5-member expert panel that included chief nursing officers and the staff development directors. The curriculum received panel feedback and approval for implementation in the 2019 nurse residency program. Key comments from the expert panel indicated that the curriculum was approved without major changes. A simulation communication curriculum integrated into the nurse residency program may effect positive social change by decreasing errors and improving patient outcomes.

Scenario-based instructional design is ideal for workplace training, as it promotes practical and performance-based learning through the use of realistic situations. The research problem is a need for well-defined heuristics, what Gibbons (2014) called operational principles and what York and Ertmer (2011) called rules of thumb, being basic guidelines that promote and characterize expertise, in the area of scenario-based online instruction. The purpose of this Delphi study was to gather expert feedback on ideas in the form of a set of best practices for scenario-based online instructional design for the workplace. The research questions break down the topic into four basic areas: identifying a learning problem, discovering scaffolds or learning resources, maintaining project momentum, and essential concerns for instructional development. Experts in workplace scenario-based instructional design, with particular emphasis on professionals with an online or academic presence, were recruited as subjects. A detailed review of the literature gathered forty-two original statements that were organized into five categories. Per Delphi methodology, the study was conducted as a three round iterative online instrument. Subjects were asked to rate each statement and to provide additional statements to clarify and expand on their best practices based on their experience. Twenty-nine subjects completed all three rounds of the research study. While the statements express a wide variety of best practices for the field, recommendations for further research generally focused on thoughtful consideration of the learner, the instructional development team, and a focus on the integrity or realistic authenticity of the learning scenario, throughout the instructional experience.

Nurse practitioners are trained to use the electronic medical record (EMR) to document. Documentation in the EMR is often found to be incomplete, inaccurate, and unreliable, which affects the quality of care and patient safety outcomes. The purpose of the project was to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of nurse practitioners' documentation in the EMR. Malcolm Knowles' adult learning theory was used in this project to develop the education program. Kirkpatrick's training evaluation model was also used to analyze and evaluate the project. The study population included 5 primary care nurse practitioners in an ambulatory care setting using Cerner EMR. The practice-focused question was centered on whether a structured scenario-based training in Cerner would improve the completeness, accuracy, and reliability of EMR documentation. The 5 nurse practitioners were educated using structured, scenario-based training in EMR. The Cerner Advance database showed that there was an average decrease of two seconds in the documentation post-education when compared to the documentation time pre-education. Results for patient quality outcomes indicated that 2 out of 3 quality measures were performed above the national mean. The implication of this study for positive social change includes providing structured education using scenario-based training to help nurse practitioners provide quality care and promote better patient outcomes.

The focus of this study is pedagogy - the 'how' of teaching. In particular, a negotiated and multimodal pedagogical approach which I have coined scenario pedagogy is of interest. Scenario pedagogy involves embedding an entire curriculum into a topical and authentic scenario, relevant to a particular group of students in higher education. The course in question is professional communication and the target group comprises senior and post-graduate accounting and other finance and information systems students registered in the commerce faculty. They are not communication students per se but register for a one-semester professional communication course towards their respective commerce degrees. In this study I examine how these students develop their professional communication practices using a wide variety of verbal and visual semiotic resources. Their selection of hybrid discursive, generic and modal resources are foregrounded at both draft and final product stage and include their communicative processes as well as the material artefacts they deliver in class. How students instantiate their meaning making and emerging identity as professionals-to-be is highlighted against a pedagogical framework of negotiated design. This framework combines a multiliteracies cum multimodal perspective which is underpinned by the notion of transformed practice. As pivotal elements of transformation - personally, collectively and societally - education and communication play significant roles, particularly in post-Apartheid South Africa still characterised by enormous socio-economic disparities and disadvantage.

Mentoring activity typically consists of the interaction of two areas, namely the personal relationship between mentor and mentee, as well as individualized guidance on performance at the factual level, i.e. the partial result-based evaluation of the previous and advice on the future learning process. This in-process feedback is considered to be a key impact factor in learning success in international educational research, provided that it is as direct and as accurate as possible (Hattie & Yates, 2014).
At the beginning of this century, the relationship between the school and the profound transformations which have taken place in the labor world have become, either at a local or global level, one the most controversial topics in the field of education. To some extent, the growing gap of the primary and secondary socialization instruments, has put the cultural legitimacy of the school form in check. Upon looking for a school paradigm adapted to the particularities of the twenty-first century, the large scale educational reforms - which happened at the end of the decade of 1990 - have stimulated inumerous ideological interventions and disputes. This dissertation is looking for a way to explore how much these transformations influenced - and still influence - the world of education, demanding a rehabilitation and, hence, a recasting of certain knowledges. The result is a besieged school by external organisms, which set guidelines and impose their wills, in conformity with a dispute and global logic of teaching. Using instruments of evaluation and inumerous incentives to the search for better results, we notice how much the school values, due to burocratic mechanisms, are undermined. When the education system stops questioning about its general principles, contents and ways of teaching, becoming only an administrative service, we must reconsider the role of the school in relation to some observations.

Researchers have determined that concept maps serve as effective tools in the traditional science classroom. The purpose of this experimental study was to investigate concept mapping as a tool for student knowledge acquisition in 10th grade science for students in distance learning situations. Research questions were designed to investigate the influence of concept mapping on rate and quality of student knowledge acquisition and retention. This study was a pretest-posttest 2-group comparison study, constructivist in nature and based on the theory of cognitive learning. Participants included 36 students in the 10th grade at an inner-city school in the United States. Control and treatment groups participated in completing pre and posttesting to establish standards for initial understanding and knowledge acquired. Pretest scores were used in a 2-tailed t test to establish equivalence between groups at the beginning of the study. ANOVA was used with test gains to determine differences between treatment and control groups. Cronbach's alpha was conducted to test for concept map interrater reliability. A 2-tailed t test for matched groups was used with concept map scores and treatment group test gains to determine any relationship. No statistically significant relationship between the use of concept maps and distance learning was found. Recommendations for future research include a wider age range for participants and investigations of academic areas such as reading, writing, mathematics, and language acquisition, native and foreign. Implications for positive social change include research with altered parameters to identify an existing tool that may be used by students in the traditional classroom as well as in distance-learning scenarios.

Aseere, Ali. „A voting-based agent system to support personalised e-learning in a course selection scenario“. Thesis, University of Southampton, 2012. https://eprints.soton.ac.uk/344399/.

Der volle Inhalt der Quelle
Annotation:
Agent technologies are a promising approach to solving a number of prob-lems concerned with personalised learning due to the inherent autonomy and independence they provide for learners. The objective of this thesis is to find out whether a multiagent system could potentially replace a centralised infra-structure, and to explore the impact of agents taking different strategies. More specifically, our aim is to show how intelligent agent systems can not only form a good framework for distributed e-learning systems, but also how they can be applied in contexts where learners are autonomous and independent. The study also aims to investigate fairness issues and propose a simple framework of fair-ness definitions derived from the relevant literature. To this end, a university course selection scenario has been chosen, where the university has many courses available, but has only sufficient resources to run the most preferred ones. Instead of a centralised system, we consider a de-centralised approach where individuals can make a collective decision about which courses should run by using a multi-agent system based on voting. This voting process consists of multiple rounds, allowing a student agent to accurate-ly represent the student’s preferences, and learn from previous rounds. The ef-fectiveness of this research is demonstrated in three experiments. The first ex-periment explores whether voting procedures and multiagent technology could potentially replace a centralised infrastructure. It also explores the impact of agents using different strategies on overall student satisfaction. The second ex-periment demonstrates the potential for using multiagent systems and voting in settings where students have more complex preferences. The last experiment investigates how intelligent agent-based e-learning systems can ensure fairness between individuals using different strategies. This work shows that agent technology could provide levels of decentrali-sation and personalisation that could be extended to various types of personal and informal learning. It also highlights the importance of the issue of fairness in intelligent and personalised e-learning systems. In this context, it may be said that there is only one potential view of fairness that is practical for these systems, which is the social welfare view that looks to the overall outcome.

In India, government aided and private engineering institutes provide engineering education. Government aided institutes include Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) and government engineering colleges. Ten percent of the total students get education in government-aided institutes and are globally accepted too. Remaining ninety percent of the total students get education in private self-financed engineering institutes. To meet the increasing demand of engineers from various industrial sectors, a quantitative growth of private engineering institutes took place with an average annual intake capacity of four hundred to five hundred students. With increasing annual intake capacity, the trend of vacant seats in private engineering institutes is also increasing rapidly year wise. Indian industry demands many engineers, but only a few students passed out from private institutes are employable. There is a challenge to build the gap between what industries are looking for the engineers and the education provided in the institutes. In this article, the authors have tried to frame the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis and recommend some remedial actions needed for private engineering institutes in India.

The problem of organizing of Web-based education of bachelors, and the bachelors of computer science in particular, is relevant for higher education institutions. The IT industry puts forward new requirements for future IT professionals training. This, in its turn, requires the educational process modernization: content specification, updating of forms, methods and means of training to meet the demands of socio-economic development of the society in general and bachelors of computer science in particular. The article analyzes and clarifies the notion of Web-based education of bachelors; as well as a line of approaches, such as approaches to the organization of Web-based learning for A La Carte, Station Rotation, Lab Rotation, Individual Rotation, Flipped Learning scenario; the necessity of cloud computing and virtual classroom use as a component of Web-based learning is substantiated. It is established that with the advent of a large number of cloud-based services, augmented and virtual realities, new conditions are created for the development of skills to work with innovative systems. It is noted that the implementation of the approaches to the organization of student Web-based education is carried out on international level, in such projects as Erasmus+ “Curriculum for Blended Learning” and “Blended learning courses for teacher educators between Asia and Europe”. The article features the results of programming students survey on the use of Web-based technologies while learning, namely the results of a new approach to learning organization according to the formula – traditional (30%), distance (50%) and project (20%) training.

Annotation:
This paper makes three contributions to the existing literature. First, it provides descriptive evidence on gender differentials by education level in the US labor market over the last twenty years. Second, it uses the structural estimation of a search model of the labor market to identify and quantify the impact of employers' prejudice on labor market gender differentials. Third, it connects both the descriptive and the analytical findings to recent policy interventions in the US labor market and presents some policy experiments. The results show that prejudice may still have a role in explaining the evidence on gender differentials and there is at least one scenario where the possibility of the presence of prejudiced employers in the labor market has substantial effects. In particular, it is responsible for the reversal of the returns to schooling ranking in recent years and it may explain up to 44% of the gender wage gap of the top education group (Master and PhD) in 2005. Since prejudice is still important, policy interventions may be effective in attaining both efficiency and welfare gains. The paper is in favor of implementing an affirmative action policy because it is frequently able to close the gender gap without reducing overall welfare and because it is effective in targeting the group that should take center stage in the future debate about gender differentials: high-skilled, high-earners workers, who also have family responsibilities.

Now the whole life of a person has switched to online mode. These changes also affected the education system. This means the need to introduce new technologies into the educational process. Books, manuals, printed publications are being replaced by electronic educational resources. Providing up-to-date, verified information to students has always been and remains one of the most important functions of the teacher. Unfortunately, with the transition of training to the online mode, the teacher cannot use his literature when conducting classes. In this regard, there is a need to use electronic resources. On the one hand, the development of the global network implies the presence of a large number of a wide variety of sites, which cannot but be a positive aspect, because both the teacher and the student can independently choose a resource that will be most understandable. But on the other hand, the variety of Internet resources implies the presence of unverified, false information, which can negatively affect the quality of education. That is why it is necessary to analyze new information systems. The problem is the presence of a large number of information technologies and resources used in education. Purpose. The goal is to conduct a comparative analysis of educational electronic publications and resources most often used by teachers of the natural science cycle in terms of their fullness, accessibility and use in the educational process. Method or methodology of the work. The requirements for the organization of a comprehensive examination suggest an approach that includes an examination of technical and technological, psychological, pedagogical and design-ergonomic aspects of the creation and use of educational electronic publications and resources, in our work we were based precisely on generalized research methods: 1) Technical and technological expertise (technical component of the site, its position in the network). 2) Psychological and pedagogical expertise (component by the type of educational electronic publication or resource, level of education, type and form of the educational process, assessment of the content and scenario of the informatization tool). 3) Design-ergonomic expertise (assessment of the quality of interface components of educational electronic publications and resources, their compliance with uniform ergonomic, aesthetic and health-saving requirements; assessment of the quality of interface components of educational electronic editions and resources, their compliance with uniform ergonomic, aesthetic and health-saving requirements). Results. The main sites that are frequently used by teachers of the natural science cycle of disciplines are the Russian Textbook corporation, the Enlightenment group of companies, the Binom publishing house, the Digital Age School, the practical significance of the study is determined by the high level of readiness of the results obtained, during the study it was found that it is advisable to introduce an information-electronic educational site - the Russian textbook corporation - into the pedagogical practice of the implementation of natural science subjects. The advantages of this server were established and recommendations for its use in the educational process were developed. Practical implications: the results obtained are expedient to be applied in educational institutions of the Russian Federation.

Many education systems in low- and middle-income countries are experiencing a learning crisis. Many efforts to address this crisis do not account for the system features of education, meaning that they fail to consider the ways that interactions and feedback loops produce outcomes. Thinking through the feedback relationships that produce the education system can be challenging. The RISE Education Systems Framework, which is sufficiently structured to give boundaries to the analysis but sufficiently flexible to be adapted to multiple scenarios, can be helpful. The RISE Framework identifies four key relationships in an education system: politics, compact, management, and voice and choice; and five features that can be used to describe these relationships: delegation, finance, information, support, and motivation. This Framework can be a useful approach for characterising the key actors and interactions in the education system, thinking through how these interactions produce systems outcomes, and identifying ways to intervene that can shift the system towards better outcomes.

SEERNet, a hub of five digital learning platforms (DLPs), either in K-12 or higher education, are enabling researchers with capabilities to conduct research and collect data on large numbers of students. Based on the new Standard for Excellence in Education Research (SEER Standards) around Equity, we propose that researchers should consider future-oriented approaches and methodologies to conduct equity-relevant research using DLPs. Taking a future-oriented approach, we created scenarios and personas to help us envision an equitable and inclusive future. Scenarios and personas are tools that may help center equity in research. We make three additional recommendations to bring new perspectives into future-oriented, equity-relevant research practices. First, include diverse research perspectives. Second, engage teachers, students, and families as partners in research. Third, minimize bias. In SEERNet, we invite the research community to join in future conversations as we continue to consider personas and future-oriented scenarios and see what they can help us understand and do.

In the global economic model, the service sector continues to gain ground on the manufacturing sector and trends such as the integration of new technologies into production processes are advancing inexorably. Advanced economies are pushed to specialise, supported by their regional innovation systems, and cities are emerging as key and strategic centres of activity. In this context, Knowledge Intensive Business Services (KIBS) are presented as critical due to their capacity to promote innovation within the regional productive fabric and smart specialisation strategies, the promotion of advanced manufacturing, the generation of quality employment and the stimulation of economic growth, especially in urban environments. This is why many cities, prioritizing KIBS to stimulate their economy, need to create and retain talent for this sort of industry. Likewise, vocational and education training (VET) systems, such as the Basque VET system, have so far developed their greatest strengths in the field of manufacturing knowledge. Due to this, VET seems to be obliged to adapt to this new scenario, in which KIBS and cities stand out, in order to continue to maintain their level of excellence. KIBS have been extensively examined, but until now no one had posed the following questions: What is the role of vocational training in KIBS? To what extent are VET profiles (and will VET profiles be) relevant in KIBS? This study will show an emerging trend in the labour market. This is the growing relevance of technology profiles with VET background in KIBS, especially in technology-based KIBS. VET technology profiles can be consolidated as one of the main implementing agents of the digital transformation (cybersecurity, blockchain, cloud computing, UX design, artificial intelligence, scientific computing...). To this end, hybridisation with other fields of knowledge but also with studies of other kinds such as university studies may be essential.
