Po 1 zamówieniu pracował jako wychowawca w niższym seminarium duchownym i rektor kaplicy publicznej w Sokołowie Podlaski. Głosił także ćwiczenia duchowe! do wspólnot parafialnych. W latach 1965-1972 tak był magistrem nowicjatu, a następnie w 1974 r. wyjechał na misje do Zairu. Wyczerpany pracą wrócił do Polski na leczenie. Zmarł nagle na zawał serca 12 sierpnia 1979 roku w Łodzi, Artykuł przedstawia 4 lata pracy apostolskiej i misyjnej ks. Bielawskiego w Zairze w r w świetle jego współodpowiedzi i współodpowiedzi innych współbraci. Don Bielawski był bardzo dobrym człowiekiem i taki jest został zapamiętany przez wszystkich wiernych i współbraci.

Resumen: Como todo sistema de gobierno de sesgo totalitario, el franquismo recurrió a la historia para justificar su existencia y forma. El emperador Constantino fue uno de los personajes a los que presto atención, por su doble condición de príncipe victorioso en la guerra y varón piadoso. La imagen de Constantino evoluciono con la sucesión de las llamadas familias del régimen. Así, Eduardo Aunós trazó una semblanza del emperador acorde con los ideales del falangismo en 1940. El auge del nacionalcatolicismo propicio la elaboración de nuevos retratos de Constantino. Dentro de este movimiento, el trabajo más comprometido con la ideología oficial fue el publicado por Ramón Sarabia en 1951. Finalmente, la llegada de la tecnocracia propicio la realización de estudios puramente académicos, como Censura en el mundo antiguo, de Luis Gil Fernández, de 1960.Palabras clave: Constantino, España, franquismo, historiografía.Abstract: As with all movements leaning toward totalitarianism, Francoism too relied on history to justify its existence and form, focusing attention on, inter alia, Constantine the Great, given his doublé condition of victorious prince at war and pious man. Constantine’s image evolved with the succession of the so-called ‘families’ of the Franco regime. Thus, Eduardo Aunós sketched the emperor’s outline according to the ideals of Falangism in 1940. The growth of National-Catholicism further favoured the elaboration of new images of Constantine, and the most committed work under this movement was by Ramón Sarabia (1951). Finally, with the arrival of technocracy, purely academic studies assumed the mantle, such as Luis Gil Fernández’s Censure in the Ancient World (1960).Key words: Constantine, Spain, Franquism, historiography.

The avant-garde theatre director Anne Bogart has made her name in the U.S. theatre community through her deconstructions of modern classics such as the musical South Pacific (1984), Cinderella/Cendrillon (1988) after Massenet's opera, Büchner's Danton's Death (1986), Gorki's Summerfolk (1989), William Inge's Picnic (1992), as well as through her idiosyncratic and original dance/theatre ‘compositions’ developed collabortively with her company, the Saratoga International Theater Institute (SITI). Prominent among such compositions have been 1951 (1986) on art and politics during the McCarthy era, No Plays, No Poetry (1988) on Brecht's theoretical writings, American Vaudeville (1991), and The Medium (1993) on the writings of the Canadian media philosopher Marshall McLuhan. Bogart has been acclaimed for her astute directing of the work by contemporary playwrights, such as Paula Vogel, Charles Mee Jr. and Eduardo Machado.

Abstract Guy Debord, founder of the Situationist International and filmmaker, kept a meticulous record of his correspondence between 1951 and 1994. Published by Fayard, the fifth volume of the correspondence includes several letters signed ‘Glaucos’ (a character from the Iliad), which were sent to Afonso Monteiro, Gianfranco Sanguinetti, Eduardo Rothe, and Jaime Semprún. In those letters, Debord developed several analyses of the ‘Carnation Revolution’, arguing that ‘the Portuguese proletariat’ had gone ‘further than the May 1968 movement’. Debord initially supported a local group called Conselho para o Desenvolvimento da Revolução Social, but he would later criticise it for not taking sufficient action. He also encouraged Jaime Semprún to write La Guerre Social au Portugal, a book published by Éditions Champ Libre in May 1975. This article analyses Debord’s correspondence in 1974 and 1975, offering a critical assessment of how he related to the revolutionary situation in Portugal.

Abstract In 1951, plant taxonomist Eduardo Quisumbing published Medicinal Plants of the Philippines, a 1,234–page volume on the palliative and curative applications of Philippine flora. Considered the standard contemporary reference on medical botany, Quisumbing’s work has informed generations of human scientists, botanists, and chemists from the archipelago. This paper, however, poses the question: What did Quisumbing, a trained orchidist, have to do with such a wide-ranging postwar publication—one quite distant from his scientific specialization—that would be (mistakenly) remembered as his magnum opus? Through a close reading of the text informed by the work’s intertextuality and Quisumbing’s personal archive, I argue that Medicinal Plants of the Philippines captures a type of encyclopedism undertaken in order to recuperate Manila’s Bureau of Science following World War ii. This encyclopedism speaks to the book’s curious character: strictly speaking, it is neither a pharmacopoeia nor a flora. Instead, it is a compendium of principally invasive species and their medicinal uses around the world that draws from over 630 academic publications. Caught within the tangle of postwar national reconstruction efforts, Quisumbing’s book evidences a considerable investment in intellectual knowledge production to assert the country’s newfound independence while shoring up public support for Philippine botanic and scientific research.

This study to understand what a social relation is, showing the anthropologist Eduardo Viveiros de Castro s concepts and ideas in his bibliography. This is a research about a social relation concept that is still being developed and studied by the contemporary anthopologist Viveiros de Castro. This work focuses on articles related to the Amerindian thoughts and issues. For the Amerindians, the social relation idea is a wider concept and different from ours. For then, humans beings and animals have different shapes but similar human essence. My work is based on the social relation concept, mainly the one studied in the first ethnological work Indivíduo e Sociedade no Alto Xingu (1977) by Eduardo Viveiros de Castro, the doctoral thesis Araweté: os deuses canibais (1986) by the same author and A Inconstância da Alma Selvagem (2002a), where there are many articles gathered signed by Viveiros de Castro.
O presente estudo pretende compreender o que é uma relação social buscando explicitar a trajetória deste conceito no pensamento e na produção bibliográfica do antropólogo Eduardo Viveiros de Castro. Trata-se de acompanhar um trajeto conceitual observado nos textos deste autor. Para tanto o trabalho se centra em publicações que, por sua vez, tratam de questões emergentes no pensamento ameríndio decidindo levá-lo a sério e situam-se em uma perspectiva que não seja plenamente dominada pela doutrina ocidental. Partindo deste ponto de vista, a noção de relação social é registrada como aquela que, no pensamento ameríndio, sobressai como um conceito que se amplia e difere em relação ao nosso, compreendendo humanos e animais como aqueles que possuem formas diferentes e fundo humano comum. Buscando um aprofundamento no estudo deste conceito, os contornos desta pesquisa se mostram a partir do primeiro trabalho etnológico de Eduardo Viveiros de Castro, realizado nos anos 70 entre os Yawalapíti (1977), passando depois à tese de doutorado conhecida em forma de livro intitulado Araweté: os deuses canibais, de 1986, e segue, fundamentalmente, até o ano de 2002, quando vem a público uma espécie de síntese teórica, A Inconstância da Alma Selvagem (2002a) donde encontram-se muitos artigos e reflexões, reunidos, revisitados e assinados pelo mesmo autor. Em resumo, esta pesquisa teórica procura revelar a trajetória do conceito relação social no pensamento do referido antropólogo, o qual apresenta uma vasta e incessante obra, situada na etnologia indígena brasileira e focada, principalmente, nas terras baixas sul-americanas. O referido conceito é dinâmico e não cessa de suscitar relações seja entre o(s) nativo(s), seja entre o(s) antropólogo(s), seja entre ambos, dentro ou fora desta dissertação.

This thesis explores the early career of Eduardo Paolozzi (1924 – 2005), focusing in particular on his artworks of the 1940s and 1950s. Predominantly known for his post-World War Two activity as an eclectic artist, designer and pedagogue, Paolozzi emerged as an experimental alternative to the modernist formalism of Henry Moore’s generation and remains one of the acknowledged leaders of an artistic movement that helped invigorate the British art scene. The sheer volume and diversity of his creative output, however, its wide-ranging use of descriptive materials and profuse interests, has legitimised the now standard reception of his work as one of wilful, perhaps even whimsical, eclecticism. Thus, he has become simultaneously codified as British artist, child of Surrealism, and ‘father of Pop.’ The thesis presented here intends to offset the standard historiography of Paolozzi’s artistic development, employing instead an interpretation grounded in the artist’s Italian roots and which takes into consideration his exposure to wider avant-garde movements and trends. Such a re-evaluation enables sense to be made of the imagery and ideas present in his work, and gives shape to the superficial incoherence of the ‘fragmentary’ phases apparently marking his output. What emerges is an alternative trajectory, one that moves from the early collages, full of L'Esprit Nouveau and Futuristic enthusiasm for the New World, through his use of Greco-Roman art, mechanisation and Uomo Novo during the years of Fascism, to the more concerted reassessment of the modern post-War world that is embodied in his satirical brutalist sculptures and proto-Pop demythologies, these last works mapping an emergence out of totalitarianism and the rediscovery of ‘democratic and international values.’ In this new analysis, Paolozzi stands as one of the few international figures who consistently developed a mature and idiosyncratic rationale through which a new, non-Fascist modernism was reformulated.

Eduardo Zamacois i Quintana (1873 Pineda de el Riu, Cuba-1971, Buenos Aires) és un escriptor i periodista espanyol, avui dia gairebé oblidat tot la seva extensa i variada obra i d’haver estat un promotor cultural del seu temps. Va viure de la seva ploma durant tota la seva vida i dels seus nombrosos viatges per Europa i Amèrica resulta un tresor documental de textos, reflex d’un segle d’història, societat, política i cultura. Va publicar nombrosos articles i cròniques, novel·les llargues, novel·les curtes, relats, contes, peces teatrals, llibres de viatge i obres autobiogràfiques. Dignes de menció són també les seves empreses i projectes editorials, conferències i incursions en ràdio i cinema. El que avui es coneix sobre la seva vida procedeix de les seves pròpies obres de caràcter autobiogràfic, novel·les, articles periodístics, tant de l’autor com dels seus coetanis; epistolaris, estudis realitzats sobre la seva obra literària amb anterioritat per altres investigadors i documents de diversa índole conservats a l’Arxiu Històric Nacional. La rellevància d’aquesta investigació rau principalment en dues raons: d’una banda, la “”reconstrucció”” de la biografia d’Eduardo Zamacois i Quintana; i, d’altra, l’anàlisi de la seva obra periodística en general, i l’elaboració i estudi de l’Índex Bibliogràfic de col·laboracions periodístiques en particular. Es tracta d’una investigació sense precedents. No existia fins ara una biografia completa de l’autor, ni estudis previs sobre la seva obra periodística.
Eduardo Zamacois y Quintana (1873 Pinar del Río, Cuba—1971, Buenos Aires) es un escritor y periodista español, hoy en día casi olvidado a pesar su extensa y variada obra y de haber sido un promotor cultural de su tiempo. Vivió de su pluma durante toda su vida y de sus numerosos viajes por Europa y América resulta un tesoro documental de textos, reflejo de un siglo de historia, sociedad, política y cultura. Publicó numerosos artículos y crónicas, novelas largas, novelas cortas, relatos, cuentos, piezas teatrales, libros de viaje y obras autobiográficas. Dignas de mención son también sus empresas y proyectos editoriales, conferencias e incursiones en radio y cine. Lo que hoy se conoce sobre su vida procede de sus propias obras de carácter autobiográfico, novelas, artículos periodísticos, tanto del autor como de sus coetáneos; epistolarios, estudios realizados sobre su obra literaria con anterioridad por otros investigadores y documentos de diversa índole conservados en el Archivo Histórico Nacional. La relevancia de esta investigación radica principalmente en dos razones: por un lado, la “reconstrucción” de la biografía de Eduardo Zamacois y Quintana; y, por otro, el análisis de su obra periodística en general, y la elaboración y estudio del Índice Bibliográfico de colaboraciones periodísticas en particular. Se trata de una investigación sin precedentes. No existía hasta la fecha una biografía completa del autor, ni estudios previos sobre su obra periodística.
Eduardo Zamacois y Quintana (1873 Pinar del Río, Cuba-1971, Buenos Aires) is a Spanish writer and journalist, nowadays almost forgotten despite his extensive and varied work and as cultural promoter of his time. He lived from his pen throughout his life and his numerous trips through Europe and America are a treasure of texts, which reflect a century of history, society, politics and culture. He published numerous articles and chronicles, long novels, short novels, stories, stories, plays, travel books and autobiographical works. Also noteworthy are its editorials and projects, conferences and raids on radio and film. What is known about his current life comes from his own autobiographical works, novels, journalistic articles, both of the author and of his companions; his letters, studies previously done in his literary work by other researchers and documents of various types preserved in the National Historical Archive. The relevance of this research lies mainly in two reasons: on the one hand, the “”reconstruction”” of the biography of Eduardo Zamacois and Quintana; and, on the other hand, the analysis of his journalistic work in general, and the elaboration and study of the bibliographic index of journalistic collaborations in particular. It is an unprecedented investigation. To date there was not a complete biography of the author, nor previous studies on his journalistic work.

El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo presentar la información que proporciona Revista Ercilla acerca de las elecciones de las campañas presidenciales de Eduardo Frei Montalva y Radomiro Tomic Romero, en el entendido de que la información política que proporcionaba esa publicación posibilita una cierta visión crítica del momento histórico estudiado, a fin de captar sus semejanzas y diferencias. Los documentos se presentan sin mayores comentarios, y en la parte final se extraen algunas conclusiones a partir del material reproducido.

Aquesta tesi està centrada en la figura del diplomàtic i escriptor Eduard Toda i Güell. L'objectiu primordial d'aquest estudi és el de definir el pensament , l'estil d'escriptura i les influències ideològiques i literàries del personatge partint de l'anàlisi dels seus textos , però també a través de la seva obra humana, les seves relacions , els seus viatges i les seves implicacions en el camp polític, social i cultural del país. Per a això s'analitza el seu epistolari, la creació de la seva biblioteca i els seus donatius de llibres i col•leccions en diferents biblioteques i arxius del país, la selecció dels llibres que va adquirir i les possibles lectures que van formar el seu pensament i l'escriptura dels seus textos, discursos, articles i llibres . L'anàlisi de l'obra d'Eduard Toda estudia, principalment, el sentit final de cada llibre i del conjunt de la seva obra. L'estudi estableix el perquè , la metodologia i el valor dels llibres i articles que va escriure. Mostra la finalitat de la seva escriptura i també de tota aquella obra material i espiritual que no forma part de l'escriptura -és el cas de les restauració arquitectònica de monuments com el monestir de Santa Maria de Poblet- però que també constitueix la seva obra global. L'estudi i anàlisi de l'obra d'Eduard Tota vol aprofundir en el seu ideologia i extreure la base del seu pensament per entendre millor al personatge, i descobrir quin va ser el motor que va generar una personalitat tan polièdrica i l'energia que impulsava cada projecte i cada acció de la seva vida.
This thesis is centered on the figure of the diplomat and writer Eduardo Toda i Güell. The primary objective of this study is to define thinking, writing style and the ideological and literary influences of the character from the analysis of texts, but also through his human work, their relationships, their travel and their implications in political, social and cultural fields in the country. To do so his correspondence, his library creation and his donations of books and collections in various libraries and archives in the country were analyzed, as well as the selection of books which acquired and possible readings that shaped his thinking and writing of texts, speeches, articles and books. The analysis of the work of Eduardo Toda studies mainly the ultimate meaning of each book and the whole of his work. The study establishes the reason, the methodology and the value of books and articles written. It displays the purpose of his writing and also of all that material and spiritual work that is not part of the script –that is the case of architectural restoration of monuments such as the Monastery of Santa Maria de Poblet- but also its global workforce. The study and analysis of the work of Eduardo Toda want to deepen their ideology and extract the basis of their thinking to better understand the character, and discover what the engine was that generated such a multifaceted personality and energy that drive each project and each action of his life.

Poetry is a literary phenomenon that, besides man and his language since earlier times until nowadays and will beside him while humanity, exists. However, each time has a particular manifestation to this kind of human language. At the 1970s, in Brazil, there was a kind of poetry that was produced and sailed out of conventional patterns, called marginal poetry; a kind of poetry that, as kind of art, answer to its historical time and, as soon as it happened to 1922s Modernism, 1950s Concretism and 1960s Tropicalism, conquered popular appreciation all over the country. This kind of poetry first work was 26 poetas hoje (26 poets today), a text anthology of texts by 26 authors who lived at Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo, organized and published by Heloísa Buarque de Holanda. At the end of the 1970s and longing all the 1980s, a group of young poets decided to put poetry at squares, near people; thus, Movimento Poetas na Praça (Poets at Squares Movement) grew up. Their central stage was Praça da Piedade (Piety Square), in Salvador, capital of Bahia state, where they joined to declaim their own and other author s poems, convoking people to a genial performance, as it used to happen on Medieval times. Movimento Poetas na Praça s founders were Antonio Short, Ametista Nunes, Eduardo Teles and Gilberto Costa, whose texts compose this work corpus. This poetry, called marginal, made angry some others poets, literary critics and scholars who called it sub-literature only because it doesn t follow official literary patterns and values all those who propose themselves as poets. Analyzing some poems composed by those poets, this study aims to offer a brief outline of this movement and contribute to finish the prejudice directed against this group of poets and their literary production
A poesia é um fenômeno literário que acompanha o homem e sua linguagem desde os primórdios até os nossos dias e há de acompanhá-lo, enquanto existir a raça humana. Cada época, no entanto, responde de uma forma particular a essa manifestação da linguagem humana. Nos anos 70, do século XX, surgiu no Brasil uma poesia que, por ter sido produzida e comercializada fora dos padrões convencionais, foi chamada de marginal; é uma poesia que, como toda arte, responde pelo seu tempo e por sua história e, beirando a linha do Modernismo de 22, do Concretismo de 50 e do Tropicalismo de 60, logo caiu no gosto do público e se espalhou por todo o país. O primeiro trabalho organizado e publicado dessa poesia foi a antologia 26 poetas hoje, da ensaísta Heloísa Buarque de Holanda, reunindo poetas que, no momento, moravam no eixo Rio-São Paulo. No final da década de 70 e durante toda a década de 80, um grupo de jovens poetas resolveu colocar a poesia na praça, perto do povo, surgia assim o Movimento Poetas na Praça. Esses poetas tinham como palco central a Praça da Piedade, em Salvador, Bahia, na qual se reuniam e declamavam poemas seus e de outros poetas, convocando o povo para uma genial performance, como nos tempos dos trovadores da Idade Média. Foram seus fundadores Antonio Short, Ametista Nunes, Eduardo Teles e Gilberto Costa; os quatro primeiros compõem o corpus deste trabalho. Essa poesia, chamada de marginal, despertou a ira de alguns poetas, críticos literários e professores universitários, que a tacharam de subliteratura, simplesmente por ela não obedecer aos trâmites oficiais das academias e por valorizar todos os que se propunham como poetas. O que buscamos, aqui, é fornecer um pequeno panorama dessa literatura, analisando, inclusive, alguns poemas dos poetas destacados acima, com o intuito único de acabar com o preconceito com que sempre foi vista essa geração de poetas e sua poesia

Bab Tut of the medina of Tetouan (Morocco): study and data for its conservationAt the beginning of the Spanish Protectorate in Morocco (1912-1956) the medina of Tetouan, with its walls and gates, was perceived as a fundamental part of the traditional city that was to be conserved. It is interesting to consider, in this sense, the concern that since the war of Tetuan (1859) was to obtain an adequate graphic representation of this architecture. Among the Maps of the Spanish Army Geographical Service are the first drawing that were made (scale 1:100) of the gates of the medina. They are signed by Francisco Gómez Jordana; Alejo Corso and Eduardo Álvarez in 1888. The purpose of this study is to publish the Bab Tut survey and its description. Thanks to this drawing we can know the exact status of the gate before the Spanish occupation and establish a documentary base that facilitates the recovery of this defensive heritage of the city of Tetouan.

<p>The proper maintenance of bridges is nowadays fundamental and unavoidable. These structures have to be preserved and technical works are usually essential to ensure its correct preservation. In this respect, it is common to use the finite element method as a numerical technique to assess the structural behaviour of this type of structure. However, when it comes time to face a historical construction, it is well known the high level of uncertainty surrounding the definition of the parameters that characterize it. Material properties, connections between structural parts or construction process are aspects that can cause significant changes between the classical numerical results and those experimentally identified. Among non-destructive techniques, finite element modal updating allows for adjusting the numerical model on the basis of dynamic characterization of the structure. This study presents the implementation of this process on the bridge of Posadas (Cordoba, Spain), a historic construction designed by the famous engineer Eduardo Torroja in 1957. The singularity of this historical construction lies in its special configuration, a concrete deck with inverted bowstring steel trusses, which can only be found in two other examples in Europe.</p>

RESUMO A sociedade atual vive em um contexto tumultuoso, sendo comum as pessoas viverem de forma mais estressadas, se alimentando mal e convivendo cada vez menos com as pessoas, perdendo oportunidades de fazer e manter relacionamentos pessoais. Como este estilo de vida está saturado, gerando problemas de saúde aos indivíduos, existem diversos estudos que comprovam a tendência de que as pessoas buscarão um melhor aproveitamento do seu tempo, com um maior contato com a natureza, dando valor ao seu próprio bem-estar, prestando mais atenção no que consome e em como consome, assim como a valorização do prazer de estar em um meio social. Nesse contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho é contribuir por meio da visão sistêmica e do design, o incentivo e a prática da filosofia Slow Food, e dessa forma, promover a preocupação com uma saudável forma de alimentação e a ação colaborativa entre as pessoas, em que um indivíduo possa cooperar com o outro, resgatando o convívio e socialização. Assim, pretende-se atuar em pequenas unidades urbanas externas, como prédios, condomínios, praças e avenidas com intuito de criação de um artefato que motive a prática dessa filosofia, assim como impulsione também as práticas colaborativas nestes locais, buscando a integração social e desenvolvimento econômico e ambiental, atendendo os princípios da sustentabilidade e o desenvolvimento local. O método de pesquisa usado é descritivo, em que se observou e analisou as situações e relações dos indivíduos, tanto de forma individual quanto as relações em sociedade. Os instrumentos escolhidos para coleta de dados foram o questionário, entrevistas e observações abertas, feitas informalmente ao decorrer das entrevistas. Neste trabalho integrou-se dois métodos de projeto, a ferramenta HCD/IDEO (Human Centered Design - Design Centrado no Ser Humano), usado como base, com técnicas para o entendimento dos desejos e necessidades da comunidade estudada e o Guia de projeto NASDesign/UFSC (Núcleo de Abordagem Sistêmica do Design/Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina), dividido em três fases: Sentir, Agir e Realizar, como complementação. Ao final, conclui-se que o modelo físico do produto proposto atende uma lista de requisitos divididos em três grande grupo: requisitos de produto, referentes à forma, materiais e texturas do objeto; requisitos do usuário, referente a necessidade entendida a partir do tipo de ambiente em que o produto está, e de como ele está sendo usado e aos requisitos do contexto de uso, que consiste nas necessidades do usuário observado durante a pesquisa.Palavras Chaves: design de produto, slow food, sustentabilidade. Second and final segment of the exhibit organized around the book "Art of Latin America 1981-2000," published in 2002 by the IDB Cultural Center. Written by historian Germán Rubiano Caballero, the book gives an overview of the art in Latin America during the last two decades of the XX century. The exhibition featured the works by some of the leading Latin American artists during the period 1981-2000; and it is the second segment of the exhibition initially staged by the IDB Cultural Center in 2002. The artists included are: José Bedia, Rimer Cardillo, Roberto Elía, Luis González Palma, Guillermo Kuitca, Lorenzo Jaramillo, Alexis ¿KCHO¿ Leyva Machado, Matilde Marín, Eduardo Medici, Vik Muñiz, Raúl Recio, Miguel Rio Branco, Arnaldo Roche Rabell, Miguel Ángel Rojas, Daniel Senise, José A. Suárez, Yves Telemak and Ricardo Wiesse. This show was organized by the IDB Cultural Center in collaboration with Colombia¿s Central Bank.

Banco de la República’s main objective is to preserve the purchasing power of the currency in coordination with the general economic policy that is intended to stabilize output and employment at long-term sustainable levels. Properly meeting the goal assigned to the Bank by the 1991 Constitution critically depends on preserving financial stability. This is understood to be a general condition in which the financial system assesses and manages the financial risks in a way that facilitates the economy’s performance and efficient allocation of resources while, at the same time, it is able to, on its own, absorb, dissipate, and mitigate the shocks that may arise as a result of adverse events. This Financial Stability Report meets the goal of giving Banco de la República’s diagnosis of the financial system’s and its debtors’ recent performance as well as of the main risks and vulnerabilities that could affect the stability of the Colombian economy. In this way, participants in financial markets and the public are being informed, and public debate on trends and risks affecting the system is being encouraged. The results presented here also serve the monetary authority as a basis for making decisions that will enhance financial stability in the general context of its objectives. In recent months, several positive aspects of the financial system have preserved a remarkable degree of continuity and stability: the liquidity and capital adequacy of financial institutions have remained well above the regulatory minimums at both the individual and consolidated levels, the coverage of past-due loans by loan-loss provisions remains high, and the financial markets for public and private debt and stocks have continued to function normally. At the same time, a surge in all the types of loan portfolios, a sharp downturn in the non-performing loan portfolio, and a rise in the profitability of credit institutions can be seen for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. In line with the general recovery of the economy, the main vulnerability to the stability of the Colombian financial system identified in the previous edition—uncertainty about changes in the non-performing loans portfolio—has receded and remains on a downward trend. In this edition, the main source of vulnerability identified for financial stability in the short term is the system’s exposure to sudden changes in international financial conditions; the results presented in this Report indicate that the system is sufficiently resilient to such scenarios. In compliance with its constitutional objectives and in coordination with the financial system’s security network, Banco de la República will continue to closely monitor the outlook for financial stability at this juncture and will make the decisions necessary to ensure the proper functioning of the economy, facilitate the flow of sufficient credit and liquidity resources, and further the smooth functioning of the payment system.
