The column base plate design procedure given in AISC ASD Ninth Edition manual1 differs considerably from the Eighth Edition manual. Additionally, the procedure contained in the first printing of the Ninth Edition manual has been refined in the later printings of the manual to incorporate improvements proposed by Thornton. These changes result in lighter base plates under certain conditions of loading and base plate geometry. The purpose of this paper is to provide a design table that includes AISC Ninth as well as Eighth Edition base plates, and to compare the two designs. The basis for the design method contained in the AISC manual has been discussed in detail by others, and will not be repeated here.

This article discusses the English translations of twelve of Grimms’ fairy tales included in the hitherto forgotten edition published by Darton and Co. in 1851. The titles and tales are identified with their German originals, and the defects of the translation are examined. The German base text was one of the Grimm editions published between 1837 and 1850. Other items not by the Grimms in the edition are commented on. Identification of the tale entitled ‘Sycorine and Argilas’ is unknown. The anonymous translator was inexperienced, without access to a reliable dictionary, and was, probably, female.

The quality of clinical trials is an essential part of the evidence base for the treatment of headache disorders. In 1991, the International Headache Society Clinical Trials Standing Committee developed and published the first edition of the Guidelines for controlled trials of drugs in migraine. Scientific and clinical developments in headache medicine led to second and third editions in 2000 and 2012, respectively. The current, fourth edition of the Guidelines retains the structure and much content from previous editions. However, it also incorporates evidence from clinical trials published after the third edition as well as feedback from meetings with regulators, pharmaceutical and device manufacturers, and patient associations. Its final form reflects the collective expertise and judgement of the Committee. These updated recommendations and commentary are intended to meet the Society's continuing objective of providing a contemporary, standardized, and evidence-based approach to the conduct and reporting of randomised controlled trials for the acute treatment of migraine attacks.

Abstract This article concludes the three-part discussion of differences among the editions of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (AMA Guides): Third Edition Revised, Fourth, and Fifth Editions. The discussion begins with a comparison of different editions of the AMA Guides for evaluating lower extremity impairment and spinal impairment. The AMA Guides, Fourth Edition, introduced the Diagnosis related estimates (DRE) model, and in this edition the range-of-motion (ROM) model has only a limited role (ie, primarily as a differentiator). A table summarizes the criteria of spinal impairment criteria by edition of the AMA Guides. The authors summarize differences in the impairment ratings of various body systems based on the use of different editions of the AMA Guides, including differences in ratings of the cardiovascular, pulmonary, digestive, and other systems. Critiquing the AMA Guides, the authors call for improvements, including the following: add a system to rate permanent impairments, including functional limitations; base impairment ratings on scientific evidence and a valid whole person impairment scale; make the AMA Guides reliable, comprehensive, internally consistent, comprehensible, accessible (ie, the AMA Guides are complex and difficult to use, and not all physicians are capable of rating impairment), and acceptable. Despite the shortcomings, no other widely accepted basis to assess impairment is available, and future editions of the AMA Guides will improve the process of providing fair assessments of functional loss.

BRIAN PARKER'S article ‘Bowers of Bliss’ attempts to place the 1986 Oxford edition of the Complete Works of Shakespeare in its scholarly, intellectual, and theatrical context, and in the course of doing so offers a number of criticisms of the procedures adopted in that volume, with particular reference to its use in the theatre. Of course, single-volume editions of the complete works are rarely selected for theatrical use, but a number of directors have chosen to base productions on this edition, having photocopies made of the text on which they are working. For them, at least, the edition has seemed to have something special to offer. It seems to me that Professor Parker's criticisms are based on imprecisions of detail and on logical fallacies, and I should like to attempt to correct them.

Komenský and “Age of Extremes” among Slovenes 1: Didactica magna (The Great Didactic) and Komenský in its latest Edition The discussion presents a semantic, rhetorical, historiographical, methodological and editorial analysis of the only edition of Jan Amos Komenský’s fundamental work in the modern Slovene language—Didactica magna or The Great Didactic (Sl. Velika didaktika, Novo mesto, 1995)—that was met with reception (i.e., was accessible to the public). The analysis suggests that this edition—for reasons unexplained—lacks the basic determinants of scientific work and thus cannot be a valid ground for the reception of Jan Amos Komenský, either for the reader-expert or for the general reader. From the editorial point of view, the edition does not provide clear information about the original text, and there is no editorial report or comment on individual passages of the original / translation, e.g. unravelling citations in the original—all of which have been the standard knowledge repertoire of scientific editions of sources, even scholarly critical editions of translations since the early 19th century. The edition is not based on the scientific publication Dílo Jana Amose Komenského 15/1 (Academia: Praha, 1986), which since its publication has been the primary textual base for every reader-expert’s understanding of The Great Didactic and a mandatory textual starting point for re-creative reception in the form of translation. The analysed edition does not include comments, and since it only provides translation without any additional knowledge apparatus, it cannot be considered as popularizing either. The current situation impedes a full reception of Komenský and indicates the need to prepare a new critical translated edition of his selected didactic writings, where optimal results could be achieved by collaboration of experts from various disciplines (different branches of historiography, didactics, pedagogy, history of science). The edition should be 1) written in modern literary language and based on the historical-critical edition of Dílo Jana Amosa Komenského. 2) It should include selected fundamental didactic writings of Komenský, 3) obligatory editorial and translation report, 4) explanatory comments and translations, and 5) European studies on Komenský in his time, as well as 6) discussions on the reception of Komenský in Slovenia. Purpose. The WRB is a soil classification system for naming soils and creating soil map legends. The purpose of the article was to reveal the basic provisions of the new WRB version and to compare the changes of the system during its existence.Data & Methods. The comparative analysis of three editions of WRB (1998, 2006, 2014) have been used.Results. The first edition of WRB had 30 Reference Soil Groups (RSG), the second – 32 (added Technosols and Stagnosols); in the latest edition the change is to replace Albeluvisols by Retisols.The key algorithm, quantity, names and characteristics of diagnostic properties and materials have changed. 40 diagnostic horizons have been defined in 1998, 39 – in 2006, 37 – in 2014.In 1998 allowed using a maximum of two lower-level units that are in front of RSG. The subsequent versions of WRB do not have limitations on the number of possible qualifiers in the soil name. In the first edition each RSG has a list of lower level; their priority defined by the user. In 2006 the qualifiers are divided into prefixes (in front of RSG) and suffixes (between brackets after the RSG name, are separated from each other by commas), in 2014 – principal (ranked for every RSG, in order of relevance) and supplementary (listed alphabetically). Ukrainian soil scientists should be known the basic provisions, new edition of WRB for international collaboration and in the future for to create a new soils classification of Ukraine.

AbstractThe recent editions of the Polish Soil Classification (PSC) have supplied the correlation table with the World Reference Base for Soil Resources (WRB), which is the international soil classification most commonly used by Polish pedologists. However, the latest WRB edition (IUSS Working Group WRB 2015) has introduced significant changes and many of the former correlations became outdated. The current paper presents the closest equivalents of the soil orders, types and subtypes of the recent edition of the PSC (2011) and WRB (IUSS Working Group WRB 2015). The proposals can be used for general correlation of soil units on maps and in databases, and may support Polish soil scientists to establish the most appropriate equivalents for soils under study, as well as make PSC more available for an international society.

‘Is your edition really necessary?’ is one of those questions which are so searching that they are rarely asked in polite intellectual society. It comes from the best of sources, and it is important not least because it raises fundamental questions—about why editing of a certain sort is necessary and about the criteria according to which it is carried out. Why, indeed, should anyone undertake critical editing? These questions can be addressed in several ways. This article addresses them by way of considering an edition which, it will be seen, is necessary. For Noel Malcolm’s is the first successful attempt to produce a critical-text edition of Leviathan. Here the reader is offered gold rather than base metal, and in considering such work it cannot be out of the way to ask the questions, both particular and general, that arise from reflecting on it. Neither can it be untimely to do so just now, when textual scholars in the West are becoming more conscious of the basic fact that their practices are not the only ones.

In the new edition of the high school chemistry textbook, published by People’s Education Press in China in 2019, the knowledge of “Acid-Base Neutralization Titration” is extracted as an independent class hour from the content of “The Application of pH” in the old edition textbook published in 2004. Based on the idea of Chinese core competencies in chemistry, the contents of “Acid-Base Neutralization Titration” in the 2019 edition and the 2004 edition of Chinese high school chemistry textbooks are compared and analyzed in this paper. It is found that the new edition of textbook is optimized in many aspects, for example, a variety of columns are set up, exercises are simplified, and the content is more concise and organized. At the same time, some suggestions are presented about the approaches to cultivating students’ core competencies and the improvement of calculation method of the examples in the new edition of textbooks.

Genome editing has become a major tool for both functional studies and plant breeding in several species. Besides generating knockouts through the classical CRISPR-Cas9 system, recent development of CRISPR base editing holds great and exciting opportunities for the production of gain-of-function mutants. The PAM requirement is a strong limitation for CRISPR technologies such as base editing, because the base substitution mainly occurs in a small edition window. As precise single amino-acid substitution can be responsible for functions associated to some domains or agronomic traits, development of Cas9 variants with relaxed PAM recognition is of upmost importance for gene function analysis and plant breeding. Recently, the SpCas9-NG variant that recognizes the NGN PAM has been successfully tested in plants, mainly in monocotyledon species. In this work, we studied the efficiency of SpCas9-NG in the model moss Physcomitrella patens and two Solanaceae crops (Solanum lycopersicum and Solanum tuberosum) for both classical CRISPR-generated gene knock-out and cytosine base editing. We showed that the SpCas9-NG greatly expands the scope of genome editing by allowing the targeting of non-canonical NGT and NGA PAMs. The CRISPR toolbox developed in our study opens up new gene function analysis and plant breeding perspectives for model and crop plants.

Genome editing tools have rapidly been adopted by plant scientists for gene function discovery and crop improvement. The current technical challenge is to efficiently induce precise and predictable targeted point mutations valuable for crop breeding purposes. Cytidine base editors (CBEs) are CRISPR/Cas9 derived tools recently developed to direct a C-to-T base conversion. Stable genomic integration of CRISPR/Cas9 components through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation is the most widely used approach in dicotyledonous plants. However, elimination of foreign DNA may be difficult to achieve, especially in vegetatively propagated plants. In this study, we targeted the acetolactate synthase (ALS) gene in tomato and potato by a CBE using Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. We successfully and efficiently edited the targeted cytidine bases, leading to chlorsulfuron-resistant plants with precise base edition efficiency up to 71% in tomato. More importantly, we produced 12.9% and 10% edited but transgene-free plants in the first generation in tomato and potato, respectively. Such an approach is expected to decrease deleterious effects due to the random integration of transgene(s) into the host genome. Our successful approach opens up new perspectives for genome engineering by the co-edition of the ALS with other gene(s), leading to transgene-free plants harboring new traits of interest.

This study evaluates the New Zealand torsional provision in the 1984 and 1992 editions of the New Zealand loading code (NZS 4203) based on the inelastic responses of a single mass model having lateral load resisting elements in two orthogonal directions and subjected to bidirectional base excitations. It is shown that for systems having torsional stiffnesses that exceed a minimum value, the provision in NZS 4203:1984 will restrict the ductility demands on the resisting elements no more than those of a similar but torsionally balanced system. This minimum torsional stiffness depends on the structural eccentricity of the system. For systems with torsional stiffness less than the minimum, the stiff edge elements can experience additional ductility demand because the 1984 edition of the Code permits excessive strength reduction on the stiff edge elements. In the 1992 edition, the Code imposes a minimum torsional stiffness of a structure in the farm of edge displacement ratios. With this new requirement, the danger of additional ductility demand on the stiff edge element is eliminated. Therefore, the torsional provision in the current edition will ensure no additional ductility demands on all lateral force elements caused by torsion.

e17538 Background: The recently released eighth edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Staging Manual, Head and Neck Section, incorporates significant changes to the prior seventh edition. The changes reflect the improved understanding of tumor biology, prognostic factors and molecular markers that effect outcomes in Head and Neck cancers. A key update restages OPSCC by human papilloma virus (HPV) positive and negative cancers as data demonstrated that these tumors have significantly different biology and outcomes. Methods: Using SEER data from 2004 – 2014, we identified male patients with squamous cell carcinomas of the tonsil, base of tongue and soft palate aged between 21 and 64 years old (those clinical characterizes were considered as surrogate markers for HPV positive status). We classified them by the AJCC 8th edition staging for HPV positive OPSCC and by AJCC 7th edition staging. The prediction performance by two staging editions were compared regarding overall survival (OS) and Disease free survival (DFS). Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazard model were applied, and the discrimination performance was measured by the concordance statistics (C-statistics). Results: A total of 8202 eligible patients were included in the analysis with a median follow up period of 51 months. 7415 (90.4%) patients had previously received radiation and 7038 (85.8%) patients had previously received chemotherapy. The median age of patients was 56 years. Distribution of stage I disease increased from 2% to 19.6% in AJCC 8th edition. 10-year overall survival (OS) for AJCC 8th stages I (74%), II (78%), III (55%) and IV (32%). Using Stage I as reference, the hazard ratio for stage II, III, and IV is 0.98 (95%CI: 0.87-1.09), 2.29 (95%CI: 2.04-2.57), and 5.88 (95%CI: 4.96-6.98). Similar results were noted for ten year disease free survival. The C-statistics measured overall discrimination for 8th edition is 0.68 and 0.63 for the 7th edition (P < 0.001). Conclusions: Based on this SEER analysis, the overall performance of discrimination improved from AJCC 7th to 8th edition; but in this study population, AJCC 8th edition does not distinguish stage I and II sufficiently as expected as it does for stages III and IV disease. Limitations of the SEER database include the surrogate for P16 status and under reported and incomplete data.

In 1960, the Jalisco poet Elías Nandino (1900-1993) published Nocturna Palabra in the prestigious Letras Mexicanas collection of the Fondo de Cultura Económica; the book brought together the poetry collections Nocturna suma, published in 1955 by Tezontle publishing house, and the unpublished Nocturna Palabra. Some of the poems in this anthology have been published in different magazines and plates at the end of the first half of the 20th century and the beginning of the second, the author warned in a note of the first edition. Nandino also said that the first versions of these texts were invalidated after the publication of the 1960 edition, since it represented its final form. However, when the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México republished Nocturna palabra in 1976, Elías Nandino introduced new changes, some of them very important. These antecedents are significant because they enable the critical study of the transformations of the texts and the reconstruction of the rewriting system used by the author during his creation process. This paper presents the progress of this analysis: the archival work to locate the first textual executions of the poems, the selection of the editing criteria to record the base text and its variants, and the first reading of the rewrite phenomena. These antecedents constitute the basis for the critical edition that is projected.

Few people are familiar with the Dictionary of the French Academy. However, it provides the official French spelling. Each edition introduces words and graphic modifications. Since 2020, a digital portal provides access to 9 editions, to the conjugation tables of 6,200 verbs and to 900 "Dire, ne pas dire" notices from the French Academy. The rectified forms in 1990 were incorporated at various stages. Hypertext links lead to external resources such as the France Terme database, which offers officially recommended scientific and technical terms, and the Base de données lexicographiques panfrancophone (B.D.L.P.), which brings together lexical varieties from twenty Francophone countries. The material for semantic and stylistic analysis includes over 2500 texts of the citynewspaper “Kuznetsky rabochy” (Novokuznetsk, Russia) since 1980 to 2014. Appeal to mediatexts of this period is tied with important changes in spiritual life of Russian society. Thesechanges were caused by perestroika, as well as by the transformation of modern personal valuesystem. According to results of the research, it is possible to conclude that the value categoryof truth is the base of the axiological sphere supra-regional component in a local edition. On thecontrary, the base of the axiological sphere regional component in local mass media performscommemorative and local historical function. This function determines semantic and stylisticfeatures of the main hypertopic (topic of a region, city) and of local historical dominants ina regional edition.

Abstract Objectives The eighth edition American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Staging incorporates significant changes to the seventh edition in the staging of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas (OPSCC). An important change was the inclusion of OPSCC associated with the human papilloma virus (HPV). Our goal is to compare the performance of both staging systems for patients with HPV-selected and unselected clinical characteristics for OPSCC. Methods Using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, 2004-2016, we identified patients with likely HPV-associated OPSCC based on surrogate markers (white males aged <65 years old with squamous cell carcinomas of the tonsil and base of tongue), excluding those who underwent surgery. We re-classified these patients using seventh and eighth edition staging for HPV-selected OPSCC and compared the prediction performance of both staging editions for overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS). We performed the same analysis for clinically unselected patients with OPSCC. Results Our analysis included 9554 patients with a median follow-up of 67 months. Comparing the eighth versus seventh edition for our HPV-selected cohort, clinical staging changed for 92.3% of patients and 10-year OS was 62.2%, 61.2%, 35.3%, and 15.5% for Stage I, II, III, and IV, versus 52.9%, 59.2%, 61.6%, 55.1%, 38.3%, and 15.5% for stage I, II, III, IVA, IVB, and IVC, respectively. A similar pattern was observed for 10-year DSS. The concordance statistics for our HPV-selected cohort were improved for both AJCC 7 (0.6260) and AJCC 8 (0.6846) compared with the unselected cohort, 0.5860 and 0.6457 for AJCC 7 and 8, respectively. Conclusion The overall performance of discrimination improved from AJCC 7 to AJCC 8 for both clinically selected and unselected patients, but more notably for our HPV-selected cohort. Despite the lack of statistically significant differentiation between Stages I and II in AJCC 8 in either groups, markedly improved discrimination was observed between Stages I/II, III, and IV in the HPV-selected cohort.

Molvi Abdul Karim's novel "khat e Taqdeer" was first published in 1862, before seven years of publishing "Mirat Ul Uros" by deputy Nazir Ahmad, and recommended for the sylllabus of schools (Madaris) of punjab. Till 1865 its two editions were published and after this,the book was disappeared for years. Dr. Mehmood Ilahi discovered this book and published its new edition in 1964,after a gap of century. Unfortunately,it could not get the deserved attention of the critics as a book of novel. Usually it was taken as a series of allegories,while its analytical study shows that this book has a strong base to be admitted as the initial stage of Urdu novel. This article raises question and discusses that why an allegory could not be a novel ? and tries to prove "Khat e Taqdeer" as the initial shape of Urdu novel.

Purpose – Co-production is becoming a more widely used term in mental health care in England, but it is not always clear what this means nor what the evidence base is behind particular uses of the concept. The purpose of this paper is to set some of this discussion into a historical context and examine some of the relevant evidence base to begin to highlight the challenges with operationalising more co-production. This is by way of setting the scene for the other articles in this special edition of the journal. The paper then provides an overview of the other articles on co-production in this edition. Design/methodology/approach – The paper is a short review and discussion of some key issues and evidence relevant to co-production in mental health. Findings – Some key historical insights from other moves to transform mental health care are discussed, recognising that these developments can take a long time to reach maturity in services and practice across the whole country. The discussion of some pertinent research and of the other articles in this special edition helps to highlight what foundations the author have in place for greater co-production in mental health care, and what remains as some of the challenges and gaps in the knowledge. Originality/value – The paper provides a historical overview of some key issues, evidence and lessons pertaining to moves to develop more co-production in mental health.

He intended to include several selections, ninety verses in all, from Lucretius's De rerum natura to illustrate that point. In the end, however, he decided against incorporating the material in the new edition, probably because Richard Bentley, the master of Trinity College Cambridge, considered Epicurean thought, of which Lucretius's work is the chief example, to be an attack on religion. Bentley had written to Newton that he planned to base a refutation of Epicurean atheism on Newton's Principia and asked him for clarification of several points.

AbstractThe article presents proposed English translations of all names of soil units (orders, types and subtypes) listed by Polish Soils Classification, PSC (2011). The proposal has been elaborated based on the recent Polish and foreign literature, using uniform and consistent criteria. Due to the lack of soil names translation in the recent, fifth edition of PSC, the suggested English nomenclature was basically derived from the previous, fourth edition of PSC (1989). However, significant amendment and numerous additions to the latest version were proposed. A uniform and comprehensive system of soil taxa translations may help to avoid nomenclature chaos in the English papers of Polish authors, which intentionally base or refer to PSC.

This paper highlights the changes of the seismic provisions in the 1990 edition of the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC) and provides the reasons and interpretations for these changes. The major changes include load factor for earthquake load, base shear formula, force modification factor in place of structural coefficient, story drift estimation, design and anchorage force for parts of portions of building, importance factor, foundation factor, and top concentrated force on structure. A comparison of the base shear calculated according to NBCC-1985 and NBCC-1990 is given to show that the base shears for most structural systems are similar. The major exceptions are the ductile flex-ural wall systems and the unreinforced masonry system. The base shear is reduced for the former system and increased for the latter system in NBCC-1990. Abstract Palpitation is an important component of a comprehensive musculoskeletal and neurologic examination of the cervical spine in individuals with neck pain, but examiners should not base diagnostic conclusions (eg, facetogenic pain) and interventional procedures on palpatory findings alone. A methodological approach to palpation of the posterior neck includes evaluation of the paraspinal musculature, the tissues that overlie the facet (zygapophyseal) joints, and the midline spinous processes. Although studies have shown low interexaminer reliability, palpation is an important component of the physical examination for determining general anatomic regions of symptoms and in establishing rapport with the examinee. In the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (AMA Guides), Fifth Edition, the diagnosis-related estimate (DRE) or injury method lists both muscle spasm and muscle guarding as potential physical exam findings by palpation. In this edition, the range-of-motion method for rating spinal impairment states that an examiner cannot find muscle spasm on exam and rate the individual's impairment on the same day because, by definition, the individual is not at maximum medial improvement. Despite acceptance by the AMA Guides, Fifth Edition, neither spasm nor guarding appears to be a reliable finding on palpation. The AMA Guides, Sixth Edition, provides a different method for determining spinal impairment, and the authors recommend limiting physical examination findings used in impairment rating to those with acceptable interrater reliability.

As a work commissioned by Charles III “the Noble” of Navarre, the Sept Psaumes provides a fascinating complement to Deborah McGrady’s study published at about the same time, The Writer’s Gift or the Patron’s Pleasure, on late medieval French literary patronage and its turbulent political context.

The article analyzes the most important problems of spelling parts of the base of a word, primarily the letter designation of some vowel and consonant sounds, the use of и at the beginning of words before и and р, the alternation of ґ with other consonants during word change and word formation, the spelling of voiced consonants in the position before a voiceless consonant, etc. We compared the content of these norms with the norms of “Ukrainian Spelling” of 1993 and with some of its previous editions. Linguists have repeatedly called for the replacement of some phonetic norms codified in various editions of “Ukrainian Spelling”. They were reviewed for the first time in “Ukrainian Spelling. Projects of the latest edition” 1999. But this spelling was not adopted. New rules and additions to some of the previous rules proposed in “Ukrainian Spelling” 2019 are definitely needed. However, taking into account the historically formed peculiarities of the Ukrainian language and modern trends in language practice, we suggest making changes that will contribute to the further normalization of the spelling of parts of the base of the word. In particular: 1) introduce the norm of using the letter и at the beginning of specific Ukrainian and some long-borrowed words before и and p; 2) submit rules on the transmission of voiced and unvoiced consonant sounds in writing; 3) to introduce the norm of alternating [ґ] — [ж] during word formation; 4) submit in various sections of spelling the rules on the alternation of consonants before the suffix -ськ-(ий) in adjectives formed from common names and from proper geographical names, which will contribute to the elimination of repetitions; 5) clarify the rules on the use of в / в- at the beginning of words and sentences before the next consonant. The underlying factor structure of the revised edition of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-R) was consistently found to be comparable between regular and special education students as well as across Anglo, Black, and Hispanic populations. A commensurate research base across exceptionality and ethnic group has not been established for the recently published third edition of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-III), making it vital that information regarding the psychometric properties of the WISC-III among diverse groups of children be collected. This study examines the factor structure of the 10 WISC-III core subtests among a sample of Black students receiving special education services. Results provided evidence of a large, first principal factor as well as the expected Verbal and Performance factors. Implications for psychologists are presented, and recommendations for future research are provided.

Wawacan Sajarah Haji Mangsur (WSHM) is one of historical literature works telling about the stories of Banten in the sultanate period in which Haji Mangsur becomes the main actor in this Wawacan. There are three manuscripts of WSHM which can be inventarized; two of them are collected in Bibliotthek Library of Leiden University, the Netherlands, indicated by the code LOr. 7420 dan LOr.7419, and another one is placed in National Libary of Jakarta indicated by the code BG.183. All of these three manuscripts are generally hand-writing by using Arab-Pegon text in Javanese Banten language. After identifying and analyzing the text, it seems that these three manuscripts derives from one source. Based on the result of comparing the texts, all of them are used in the text edition. After criticizing the text, there are several writing error on the WHSM text,i.e. in the form of substitution, addition, and lacuna. Such errors are ,then, corrected in the text edition. Reading materials on the base manuscript which is corrected by substituting, rediuing, or adding are noted in critical apparatus. The method of text edition used in this study is the basis method. It is used because among all these three manuscripts is a manuscript, indicated by the
code LOr. 7420, which takes the shine of from the other ones.

Recent trends in the specifications of earthquake design forces are moving away from spectral amplification of ground motion towards direct evaluation of spectral values. Also, the 1988 Saguenay earthquake produced strong evidence for the need to modify the present provisions for low period structures in eastern North America. A new database consisting of 75 time histories was assembled and an extensive parametric study was undertaken to prepare new seismic response factors (S curves) for the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC). These time histories were divided into five categories (15 time histories each) on the basis of their frequency content as measured by their peak ground acceleration to peak ground velocity ratios, ranging from very high (≈3) to very low (≈0.5). Mean and mean + one standard deviation response spectra for one-degree-of-freedom and multi-degree-of-freedom systems were computed for the five categories using several normalizing (scaling) rules for the time histories. The results were compared and spectral amplification factors are presented. Spectra based on peak spectral velocity scaling were compared with spectra based on the present peak ground velocity scaling approach, and some differences are noted. Also, comparisons with the design spectra given in the 1991 edition of the National Earthquake Hazard Reduction Program provisions are presented. On the basis of this study, new S curves are proposed for consideration in the development of future editions of the NBCC. Abstract This article presents the first critical texts of the passages on Jesus, John the Baptist, and James in the Latin translation of Josephus’ Antiquitates Iudaicae and the sections of the Latin Table of Contents for AJ 18 where the references to Jesus and John the Baptist appear. A commentary on these Latin texts is also provided. Since no critical edition of the Latin text of Antiquities 6-20 exists, these are also the first critical texts of any passages from these books. The critical apparatus includes a complete list of variant readings from thirty-seven manuscripts (9th-15th c.e.) and all the printed editions from the 1470 editio princeps to the 1524 Basel edition. Because the passages in the Latin AJ on Jesus and John the Baptist were based on Rufinus’ translation of Eusebius’ Historia Ecclesiastica, a new text of these passages in Rufinus is provided that reports more variant readings than are included in Mommsen’s GCS edition. A Greek text for these passages with revised apparatus correcting and expanding the apparatuses in Niese’s editio maior of Josephus and Schwartz’s GCS edition of Eusebius is also provided. In addition to presenting a text and commentary for the passages in the Latin Antiquities and Rufinus’ translation of Eusebius, there is catalogue of collated manuscripts and all the early printed editions through 1524, providing a new scholarly resource for further work on the Latin text of the Antiquities.

A statistical analysis is performed to evaluate the base shear provisions in the 1985 edition of the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC 1985). Three sets of real earthquake records are selected to represent seismic ground motions with low, normal, and high peak acceleration to velocity (a/v) ratios. Single degree of freedom stiffness degrading systems are used as structural models; three damage indicators are employed to measure structural damage. The yield strength of the systems is specified in two different ways: (a) a single seismic response factor is used, irrespective of the a/v ratios of the input ground motions; (b) three different seismic response factors are used in the short-period range, depending upon the a/v ratios of the input ground motions, as suggested in NBCC 1985. A comparison of the statistical results of the three damage parameters for the systems designed with these two methods of strength specification indicates that the NBCC 1985 base shear provisions provide consistent control over structural damage when the structural systems are subjected to ground motions with different a/v ratios. Resumo: O objetivo deste artigo é, considerar o quarto paralogismo e a crítica kantiana a ele na versão da primeira edição da Crítica da razão pura, destacando o contexto do quarto paralogismo, a saber, o propósito e a estrutura dos paralogismos em geral. Procurarei mostrar que, ao contrário do que parece à primeira vista, o quarto paralogismo na sua primeira edição partilha da mesma estrutura dos demais e é equivalente à sua formulação na segunda edição da Crítica da razão pura. Procurarei também mostrar que, ao levarmos em conta esse propósito e estrutura geral dos paralogismos partilhada pelo quarto paralogismo, podemos perceber que a crítica ao quarto paralogismo na primeira edição não é propriamente uma tentativa de prova da existência de objetos externos com base no caráter transcendentalmente interno dos objetos do sentido externo.Abstract:The aim of this paper is to examine Kant's criticism of the forth paralogism in the first edition of the Critique of pure reason, trying to highlight its context, i.e., the purpose and structure of the paralogisms in general. I intent to show that, contrary to what may seem on the face of it, the forth paralogism in the A edition shares the same structure of the first three and is equivalent to its new version on the B edition. I will also indicate that, taking into account these shared purpose and structure, we can see that Kant's criticism to the forth paralogism in the A edition is not exactly and attempt to prove the existence of outer objects based on his statement that empirically outer objects are transcendentally inner.

This paper describes the process by which Canadian seismic loading provisions are developed and then details the primary changes being introduced in the 1985 edition of the National Building Code of Canada. The most significant change is the inclusion of new seismic zoning maps, based on a new seismic risk methodology, a new probability level, and additional seismic zones, and incorporating both horizontal ground velocity and acceleration as zoning parameters. The format of base shear calculation is revised to incorporate these changes, including the specification of a new seismic response parameter. The base shear formula is calibrated to ensure that, on a cumulative basis throughout the country, the level of seismic loading remains unchanged. Additional changes discussed in the paper include the removal of dynamic analysis as a specific option in the base shear calculation and some significant changes in the calculation of torsional effects.

This is a second and considerably expanded edition of the RIR table. We are pleased that considerable interest is now being generated in the RIR table; several contributors have provided measured data for this second edition. We have also added many entries of common minerals and simple compounds from the JCPDS data base and will continue to add more from this source with each succeeding table published. In this regard where we receive requests for a particular class of RIR's (alloys, or rare earth oxides, for examples) we can give higher priority to extracting these values from the JCPDS data base.The reader should refer to the text explanation of the first published table in Vol. 3, No. 4 of this journal. In the first text two important errors are noted here; Equation (3) should have read RIRcorr = RIRobs/Wj; and the second sample preparation category of section 4 Specific Parameters should read “(w) Methods including well mounts with side or back loading or similar process”.

The new edition of Perm historian D.M. Sofyin monograph, that has been substantially revised and supplemented in comparison with the fi rst edition, is devoted to the personality and multifaceted activities for the benefi t of the Fatherland of the extraordinary and contradictory fi gure of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich. On the basis of the wide array of sources, many of which are being introduced into scientifi c circulation for the fi rst time, and available historiographic base, the author, while taking into account the comments of the reviewers, tries to present to the readers the updated text of the book about one of the most demonized representatives of the Romanov dynasty, who at the same time can be confi dently attributed to the adherents of conservative ideology, not in its theoretical, but rather practical dimension, for all his state activity was permeated with the idea of preserving and strengthening autocracy and following the established age-old traditions.

Several major changes were introduced in the seismic design provisions of the 2005 edition of the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC). The lateral earthquake design force at the base and the lateral force distribution along the building height depend on the design spectra and on modification factors that, in most cases, require a large number of interpolations and calculations. This note presents a spreadsheet that facilitates determination of the 2005 NBCC seismic design forces from the equivalent static force procedure.

Resumo: O artigo aborda os desafios de uma edição crítica do poema O Guesa, de Joaquim de Sousândrade. Como não subsistiram manuscritos do poema, a edição crítica tomará como texto-base sua última versão publicada e revista pelo autor: a edição londrina de O Guesa [188-]. Ainda que tal escolha pareça um princípio convencional, o propósito dos editores é levar em consideração, pela primeira vez, versões anteriores dos Cantos de O Guesa, publicadas em periódico e em várias coletâneas poéticas entre 1867 e os anos 1870. Sousândrade foi um autor obcecado com a revisão e expansão de seu poema, resultando disso uma obra literária complexa e proteica. A noção de um texto ideal único deve ser abandonada em favor de uma edição que leve em consideração a pluralidade das versões do poema, sua instabilidade textual, a riqueza e profusão de suas variantes e seu estado final inacabado.Palavras-chave: Joaquim de Sousândrade; O Guesa; edição crítica.Abstract: The article addresses challenges for a critical edition of Joaquim de Sousândrade’s long poem O Guesa. As manuscripts of the poem have not subsisted, the critical edition will be based on the last version of the poem published in the poet’s life: the London edition of O Guesa [188-], which have been raised by the author himself. Although it seems a conventional principle, the editorial aim is to take into account, for the first time, the earlier versions of O Guesa’s Cantos. Versions that have been published in several Sousândrade’s collections from 1867 to the 1870’s. Joaquim de Sousândrade was a prolific writer, obsessed with the revision and expansion of his poem. The result was that O Guesa is a complex and plural work. The notion of an ideal unitary text must be abandoned in favor of an edition which takes into consideration the plurality of versions of the poem, the richness and profusion of its textual variants, its textual instability and unfinished final state.Keywords: Joaquim de Sousândrade; O Guesa; critical edition.
