Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis doctoral research aims to rehabilitate a processual approach to the Anthropocene, understood as a particular dynamic, based on evolving relationships with non-humans, with strong impacts on "global systemic effects" that are likely to restrict the possibility of humans to control the direction of local trajectories (Beau and Larrère, 2018). To this end, "construction waste" or waste-materials from (un)construction are problematized as "political matter" (Braun and Whatemore, 2010; Pilo' and Jaffe, 2020), both physical and discursive (Rudolf, 2012), invested by diverse actors at different scales and at the center of power games. Through the sociology of associations (Latour, 2007), the material and relational reading (Blanc et al., 2020) proposed here includes all the social groups linked by these physical or discursive materials: those who interact directly with these wastes or materials; those who decide or are responsible for their management; those who talk about them and mobilize around their management. Beyond the sociotechnical aspect, the im/material circulations narrative (Choplin, 2020; Quet, 2022) of these waste-materials demonstrated their political character and their socialization around the issues of illegal dumping and industrial pollution on a local scale. In a context of transition to the Circular Economy announced by ecological policies (LTECV law of 2015; AGEC law of 2020), the entry through circulating materials then made visible the contemporary dynamics of globalization (Abélès, 2008) of the Circular Economy referential in both waste and construction circles. We can thus observe the thematic shifts from one political strategy to another on a (supra)national scale, as well as the complex, long and winding translation work (Akrich et al., 2013) carried out by regional players in order to take control of these issues. Moving from policy to action, this work focuses on the public action in being of transition to Circular Economy in building sector on a regional scale. This analysis dissociates substance from form, distinguishing between the political trajectories of ecological transitions (from more circular waste management to the transition of construction practices), and the operating methods chosen by stakeholders (leadership, financial support, networking). Through a individuation movement (Abélès, 2008) within the Region Occitania, this thesis examines the singular political strategy of this actor and the transformations observed in ecological action - here related to "building waste". From a holistic perspective, the final objective is to qualify what "acting for ecology" means for this local authority whose ecological public action is in its infancy but innovative (Laboratoire des Transitions and Pacte Vert pour l'Occitanie). In this way, analysis through institutional and socio-ecological transitions (Carrère et al., 2019) made it possible to investigate the rise in competence and materialization of an ecological policy within the Region Occitania, which was based on the territorialization of Circular Economy policies introduced on a regional scale by the theme of waste

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe complexity of the spatial dynamics of material and energy flows in a circular economy context opens the debate on the interpretation of the interacting factors in the sustainable usage of resources throughout the product life's cycle. For our purposes, the circularity of bio-food flows is reflected in local logistics networks. In this context, these networks are presented as new ways of structuring processes, flow circuits and interconnections between actors. Therefore, in order to save resources, most local logistics networks opt for a flexible organization, a minimal hierarchy, and decentralized decision-making centers with clearly established roles. Flow management is based on this structural flexibility and enable the integration of all processes, activities and actors throughout the product life's cycle. This desire to "act together" is deployed in a process of public-private decompartmentalization where the different actors mingle and interact, each one exercising in his own way a function of "manager" and having a capacity of intervention (legal, media or social)

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleSince the 1970s, territorial development has been highlighted in planning and economic sciences from the perspective of the creation of related activities and jobs. The development of territorial resources therefore becomes crucial. However, the literature does not question the identity of the actors even though they constitute a central territorial resource. The thesis argues that the proximity in the different stages of territorial development does not mobilize the same types of actors.Several hypotheses are put forward about the modes of mobilization of actors, their nature and their interdependencies. The reasoning is structured in three parts. The first is devoted to the study of the Mecanic Valley Local Production System (SPL). The objective is to understand how local development has been structured in this physical, social and productive space. A second part is devoted to the study, in the literature, of the way actors are mobilized and coordinated; particularly in the territorial framework (proximity, governance, territorial development). Several stylized facts are constructed to make the link between systems of actors, proximity and stages of development. These facts are applied to the SPL Mecanic Vallée in order to produce a re-reading of its development dynamics. These facts relate to two specific productive projects: business relations and activity financing. A third part is devoted to research results. These results confirm a very strong interdependence of the actors as well as the particularity of the modes of mobilization in the construction of territorial dynamics

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe aim of this thesis is to shed light on the mechanisms involved in the transition of industrial port territories to the circular economy using a project management tool. The circular economy, which makes it possible to close the loop in the life cycle of materials, offers this type of territory the opportunity to redirect its economic development towards a more sustainable model. Although circular economy activities are developing in European industrial port territories, institutional work on the circular economy in this type of territory is currently limited mainly on identifying these activities. This provides little detail on the transition that is taking place in the territory or the role of the stakeholders. To understand the mechanisms behin this transition, we therefore propose to analyse the conditions for implementing these circular economy activities using a project management tool in the form of a dashboard of indicators created specifically for this type of territory. Our analysis is applied to two cases : Dunkirk, as a pioneer of industrial ecology in France, and North Sea Port, because of its special nature, resulting from the merger of the ports of Ghent in Belgium and Zeeland in the Netherlands. These two cases allow us to demonstrate the impact of our management tool on concrete projects. From a theoretical point of view, the thesis therefore contributes to putting the circular economy back on the port scale by mobilising the concept of the innovation ecosystem. On an empirical level, it provides a management and analysis tool for circular economy projects aimed at stakeholders and managers

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe aim of this thesis is to study waste produced by households in cities through waste prevention processes. In the context of a strong growth in private consumption and fast replacement of obsolete items, the amount of waste has increased sharply. In these circumstances, sustainable development policies has made the reduction of waste a priority. While nuisances associated with waste tend to shrink but are often accompanied by distance and discredit on the waste territories, local recycle centers (also called reuse centers or thrift shops) are booming. Our initial research focuses on understanding how these places - that adopt an ecological and/or social approach- contribute to modifying the rapport citizens have to their rejects and transform their relationship with the urban and social environment. We also look at the involvement of these recycle centers in the making of a sustainable city. This research is innovating by mobilizing several fields of geography: studies on places, proximity, geography of trade and consumption as well as the citizens’ initiatives in urban life. Reuse is seen as the recirculation of waste which takes place in specific “new consumption’s” territories. To understand the change in the value of waste in these territories, reuse is analyzed from its aesthetic experience that creates a new relation to waste. The research focuses mainly on the Greater Paris – an urban metropolis – whose results are contrasted with an exploratory work conducted in New York

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis research introduces a theoretical and experimental approach of the food resilience in the French Overseas Departments and Regions (DROM): Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique, Mayotte and Reunion. The current social, economic, geopolitical crises and the global deregulation of the climate change strengthens food and nutritional insecurity particularly in the DROM. An analysis of the overseas territories characteristics has been conducted by applying an original method, the Economy-Wide Material Flow Analysis (EW-MFA) to identify the material flows and exchanges between the economic and environmental dimensions. Among these flows, the food one accounts for a major challenge to limit the vulnerabilities of these overseas economies. Secondly, we have considered the territorial and demographic particularities of overseas environments to design an adapted food resilience approach in order to satisfy the objectives of food and nutrition security. Here, food resilience is defined as the dynamic capacity to achieve food and nutritional security for all populations facing disruptions, notably through the production and insecurity challenges. Then, by identifying the contrasts and similarities between the overseas territories, we conducted a study to define a specific food resilience scorecard based on indicators relating the dimensions of the food system and the challenges of sustainable food. Our results show that the priority challenges for food resilience in the French overseas territories are social, nutritional, and economic. Based on these results, we proposed a specific reflection for each DROM to reduce inequalities. Finally, thanks to this research action, it is possible to establish a circular economy and solidarity-based model to promote food resilience in Reunion. For the first time it is possible to identify the benefits of the food waste valorization and the realities of people in food insecurity. Our thesis argues that the promotion of food resilience necessarily involves the development of people's capability

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleEfficient use of by-products is essential as natural ressources are increasingly scarce. Industrial strategies to adress this issue are more efficient when they are developed on a system-based level, such as with regional industrial symbioses, rather then with individual or isolated approaches.Regional industrial symbiosis projects involve different industrial activities based on a territory and that are to be engaged collectively in order to make structural changes within the regional metabolism. This kind of project might be promoted by individuals or organisations legitimated by the whole of industrial symbiosis'actors. A facilitator group initiates the project, catalysing changes, based on a plausible promise of benefits. Those considered changes are gradually adapted and refined by the involved actors. In such a way, plausible benefits must match to their model of choice that comprises environmental, among others, dimensions. While methods and tools dedicated to environmental assessment of product were developped under strong research effort, the issue of environmental assessment fo regional industrial symbioses so far as has been weakly studied. For that purpose Life-cycle assessment (LCA) is presented as an ultimate environmental assessment method. However, LCA was not elaborated in oder to account for individual environmental perspective, nor to address structural system changes induced consequently to the implementation of a regional industrial sysbiosis nore its temporal effects on the environment, but instead LCA addresses global environmental issues related to a product. Starting from this analysis, and dealing with outcomes from social sciences, we propose to adopt an anthropocentric conception of the environment, as a system of complex subject-object relationships, for which we identify key elements of the perception of environemental consequences. Those key elements enable to build a logical basis composed of three environments that enable to cover, and thus to consider, actors' perception of environmental consequences related to the project. We present a participatory method that embeds this logical basis and suggests successively to 1) identify the environmental phenomena of interest related to the project, 2) design corresponding indicators considering concomitantly available data about the biophysical characteristics and scientific knowledge about the impact chains, 3) assess the environmental consequences. We illustrate the method and its epistemological foundations with a case study: a project that aims to recycle organic residues in agriculture in Réunion Island
