Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis doctoral work focuses on the effects of social categorization processes in multicultural political marketing. This research specifically examines the targeting of French dual citizens of North African descent and how it affects the identity dynamics of these dual citizens and their perceptions of citizenship. Four categorical dynamics are distinguished: identity withdrawal, probationary, adaptive, and anchoring. Individuals will adopt one of these four dynamics depending on the contexts and political discourses they encounter. Several forms of citizenship relationships have been identified, all demonstrating an ongoing need for citizenship among individuals. Political marketing practices play a significant role in shaping categories within this framework, thus subject to various criticisms. This research contributes to social identity theories, political marketing, and marketing studies on ethnicity

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleNowadays, we observe a growing concern raised by the environmental issues and those related to management of the resources as electricity and water. As part of a collaborative project with Veolia Eau d'Île-de-France and le syndicat des eaux d'Île-de-France, this PhD research addresses initially the clustering of water consumers based on their consumption behavior dynamics over time. These dynamics, in each cluster, depend on a number of exogenous factors. To model this joint density, non-homogeneous Markov models are investigated as the components of a mixture model. Hence, the estimation of the parameters in each cluster allows to predict the future consumption behaviors independently. Afterwards, the problem of online structural change detection in a set of consumption behavior sequences is addressed. To this end, a sequential hypothesis testing of generalized likelihood ratio, based on a non-homogeneous Markov model is proposed. An adaptive threshold is also used which can be adjusted throughout the various types of changes and may reduce the number of false alarms. The results on a real dataset which is issued from a water network allow to highlight the effectiveness of the proposed methods both in terms of clustering and change detection. Finally, the analysis of the estimated parameters of both models allows to study the influence of exogenous factors on clustering and detected changes

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIn formal semantics, researchers assign meanings to sentences of a natural language. This work is guided by the principle of compositionality: the meaning of an expression is a function of the meanings of its parts. These functions are often formalized using the [lambda]-calculus. However, there are areas of language which challenge the notion of compositionality, e.g. anaphoric pronouns or presupposition triggers. These force researchers to either abandon compositionality or adjust the structure of meanings. In the first case, meanings are derived by processes that no longer correspond to pure mathematical functions but rather to context-sensitive procedures, much like the functions of a programming language that manipulate their context with side effects. In the second case, when the structure of meanings is adjusted, the new meanings tend to be instances of the same mathematical structure, the monad. Monads themselves being widely used in functional programming to encode side effects, the common theme that emerges in both approaches is the introduction of side effects. Furthermore, different problems in semantics lead to different theories which are challenging to unite. Our thesis claims that by looking at these theories as theories of side effects, we can reuse results from programming language research to combine them. This thesis extends [lambda]-calculus with a monad of computations. The monad implements effects and handlers, a recent technique in the study of programming language side effects. In the first part of the thesis, we prove some of the fundamental properties of this calculus: subject reduction, confluence and termination. Then in the second part, we demonstrate how to use the calculus to implement treatments of several linguistic phenomena: deixis, quantification, conventional implicature, anaphora and presupposition. In the end, we build a grammar that features all of these phenomena and their interactions

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe computational-functional conception of high-level processing of vision in Kosslyn and Koenig (1992) relies on dissociation between object recognition and spatial processing. In 1987, Kosslyn postulated that two different processes compute spatial-relations: categorical process computes relative position of objects and coordinate process computes the distance between objects. Some studies indicate a left-hemisphere advantage for processing categorical spatial relations and a right-hemisphere advantage for processing coordinate spatial relations. This hemispheric difference is interpreted as an evidence of a dichotomy between these two processes. A pluridisciplinary review was conducted to assure that single process hypothesis is dismissed out. Some studies showed, in a coordinate task, that practice resulted in a decreased right-hemisphere involvement and a concurrent increase in left-hemisphere involvement (i.e., practice effect). Furthermore, the left-hemisphere advantage in categorical was seldom observed. The theoretical aim of the thesis was based on two questions: (1) Are there single or several processes encoding visual spatial relations? (2) How can we interpret this practice effect ?Five experiments were run to verify possible bias which might explain observed hemispheric differences and practice effect. Our results suggested that hemispheric communication might be an important factor in spatial-relation processing. An theoretical investigation of divided visual field paradigm was led and several interhemispheric models were described. Three experiments were conducted to estimate hemispheric communication in spatial-relation process. In the light of our results, separate categorical-coordinate processes hypothesis were discussed

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleClustering is one of the methods resulting from unsupervised learning which aims to partition a data set into different homogeneous groups in the sense of a similarity criterion. The data in each group then share common characteristics. DyClee is a classifier that performs a classification based on digital data arriving in a continuous flow and which proposes an adaptation mechanism to update this classification, thus performing dynamic clustering in accordance with the evolution of the system or process being followed. Nevertheless, the only consideration of numerical attributes does not allow to apprehend all the fields of application. In this generalization objective, this thesis proposes on the one hand an extension to nominal categorical data, and on the other hand an extension to mixed data. Hierarchical clustering approaches are also proposed in order to assist the experts in the interpretation of the obtained clusters and in the validation of the generated partitions. The presented algorithm, called Mixed DyClee, can be applied in various application domains. In the case of this thesis, it is used in the field of automotive diagnostics
