A method was developed for the quantitative estimation of the content of trapped melt in various dunite types and the composition of this melt on the basis of the major- and trace-element characteristics of the dunites and compositions of their chrome spinels. Our approach is advantageous over the method based on clinopyroxene geochemistry and clinopyroxene–melt partition coefficients for the contents of the light REE and more incompatible elements in melt, comparable with it for the middle REE, and possibly less accurate for the heavy REE and Sr. The estimated mean contents of trapped melt in dunites from ophiolite and concentrically zoned complexes are 1.0–1.5 wt %, which is probably typical of various dunite types, including cumulate dunites from layered complexes. These values are an order of magnitude higher than previous estimates. The correspondence between the compositions of calculated trapped melts in dunites and real natural melts indicates that the estimated contents of trapped melt in dunites are realistic, and the mineral–melt partition coefficients that were used in our calculations are valid for the complexes considered in this paper. In general, the proposed method is suitable for serpentinized dunites, including dunitic serpentinites.

Ultramafic massif of Bulqiza belongs to Eastern Jurassic Albanian ophiolite belt of IAT-BSV- type. This massif is the most important chromite-bearing ore. The mantle ultramafics have extremely refractory nature. This is due to the high partial fusion of upper mantle which is depleted in CaO and Al2 O3 . The chromitite is situated to different parts of ultramafic pile, from bottom Cpx harzburgites up to massive dunites and cumulate ultramafic but the mainly chromite potential belongs to mantle harzburgite –dunite level and to transition dunites partly. The chromite is chiefly of Cr-rich metallurgical type. The atomic ratios of chromite , Fo of olivine and some physical properties of them vary according to the chromitite setting and reflects the evolution of Ol-Sp equilibrium process depended of the chromite concentration, from baren dunitic lenses towards dunite envelops of the ore bodies and the interstitial and inclusions of olivine within chromite grains. Two particular chromite deposits are the Bulqiza- Batra tabular folded ore body and Shkalla, pencil –like ore body.

ABSTRACT The continental margin is of profound importance as it records continental growth by accretion of orogenic magmas and following continental rifting. A high degree of mantle melting due to hydrous fluid input is expected to simultaneously stimulate continental growth and lower the intrinsic density of the mantle than more fertile mantle, which in turn isolates the continental lithosphere from the convective mantle. The mantle peridotites from Gibbs Island (South Shetland Islands) and Bruce Bank in the Drake Passage provide us an insight into the tectonic history in the circum-Antarctic region. To elucidate the continental growth of Antarctica, we present geochemical data of eight dunites from Gibbs Island and one dunite from Bruce Bank, including Re–Os isotope and highly siderophile element compositions. The dunites are severely affected by serpentinization as evidenced by antigorite + brucite or lizardite (loss on ignition = LOI ranging from 3 to 34 wt.%) but contain primary euhedral to subhedral chromites with or without spherical inclusions. The chromites rarely form lens-shaped aggregates. A dunite from Gibbs Island contains fresh olivine grains filling a fracture in the chromite with low LOI (3 wt.%), indicating a deserpentinization origin from a precursor serpentinized dunite. The dunites show highly depleted bulk-rock major element compositions (Mg/Si = 1.4–1.6 and Al/Si = 0.004–0.01 for Gibbs Island dunites, Mg/Si = 0.66 and Al/Si = 0.008 for Bruce Bank dunite), overlapping a compositional field defined by forearc peridotites. The positive correlation in Re/Ir–LOI space corroborates Re input during the later serpentinization process. The 187Os/188Os ratios of the dunites range from 0.11907 to 0.14493. Phanerozoic Re-depletion (melt depletion) ages of ca. 535–129 Ma are recorded in the Gibbs Island dunites, except for one with a Mesoproterozoic Re-depletion age of ca. 1.2 Ga. Since there exists serpentinization-related perturbation of Re, the ages provide minimum time estimates for melt depletion events. The early Paleozoic melt depletion is inferred to have occurred at a very early stage of Antarctic Peninsula formation in response to plate convergence along the margin of Gondwana, whereas the Mesoproterozoic Re-depletion age reflects convecting mantle heterogeneity unrelated to any nearby crust-forming events. The petrographic characteristics of the chromites and highly depleted nature of the dunites are attributed to melt–peridotite reaction in a subduction zone setting. A feasible interpretation for the dunite formation is that the mantle had experienced two stages of melting with the final stage occurring along the Gondwana continental margin in the subduction zone setting. Resultant highly refractory lithospheric mantle was later displaced and dispersed during the Gondwana breakup. Widespread existence of the dunite may be attributed to multi-stage melt depletion along the continental margin.

Along with some gold-quartz deposits hosted by dunite-harzburgite massifs elsewhere in the Urals, elevated Ni concentrations were revealed within the ore field of the Anna gold-(sulfide)-quartz deposit localized in weathered oxidized dunites and harzburgites of the Pervomaisky complex (συO2p) in the Pervomaisko-Verkhoturie district of the Central Urals. The spatial association of Au and Ni concentrations in dunites-harzburgites may be attributed to a partial inheritance of Ni-controlling tectonic dislocations by those hosting gold mineralization. Therefore, the combination of halos of Ni and Au concentrations in dunite-harzburgite massifs is a favorable indicator of areas prospective for discovery of goldquartz mineralization.

Abstract. Titinoclinohumite-bearing dunites from Fujiwara, the Sanbagawa metamorphic belt of high-pressure type, Japan, were described to examine the possibility of Ti mobility during metasomatism within the mantle wedge. The Fujiwara dunite body and surrounding high-pressure Sanbagawa schists possibly form a subduction complex, and the dunites are a good analogue to the mantle wedge overlying the slab. The Fujiwara dunites are of deserpentinization origin; the deserpentinized olivine is high in Fo (up to 96) and low in NiO (0.2 to 0.3 wt %), and contains magnetite inclusions. Titanoclinohumites are associated with the deserpentinized olivine, as lamellar intergrowth or veinlets, up to 1 cm in width. Other metamorphic minerals include antigorite, brucite, chlorite, ilmenite, perovskite, Ti-rich ludwigite, and carbonates. The protolith of the Fujiwara dunite was partially serpentinized cumulative dunites from intra-plate magma, containing relatively low-Fo (85 to 86) olivines and TiO2-rich (up to 3 wt %) chromian spinels. The metamorphic olivines and titanoclinohumites contain micro-inclusions of methane (CH4) with or without serpentine and brucite. The source of Ti for titanoclinohumite was possibly the Ti-rich chromian spinel, but Ti was mobile through hydrocarbon-rich fluids, which were activated during the metamorphism. The hydrocarbons, of which remnants are carbonates and methane micro-inclusions, were derived from carbonaceous materials or bitumen, possibly incorporated in the precursory serpentinized and brecciated peridotite (= the protolith for the Fujiwara dunites) before subduction. Ti can be mobile in the mantle wedge if hydrocarbons are available from the subducted slab.

The note describes the mineralogical and geochemical features of platinum-bearing vein-disseminated and massive chromitite from the dunites of the Svetloborsky, Veresovoborsky and Kamenushensky clinopyroxenite-dunite intrusions located in the Middle Urals. It was found that platinum in chromitites has an extremely uneven distribution and is concentrated in the form of Pt-Fe intermetallides. The texture-structural features of the chromitites studied, the distribution of platinum group elements and the composition of chromoshpinelides in them are similar to the detailed study of the chromitites of the zonal clinopyroxenite-dunite intrusions of the Urals (Nizhnetagilsky) and Koryakia (Gal’moenan).

We present the data of geochemistry and geochronology of zircons from wehrlites and clinopyroxenites from dunite-wehrlite-clinopyroxenite bended complex of the base of crustal section of ophiolite Nurali massif. The U-Pb age of the bended complex is 450±4 Ma which is different from the previous data. Zircons from the studied rocks have complimentary REE patterns and similar U-Pb ages to lherzolites and dunites from mantle section of the Nurali massif.

The paper presents the new data on platinum group minerals (PGM) and chromite from the Zheltaya Sopka massif, North Urals. Few chromite bodies along with specifc composition of chromite indicate weak ore-forming processes developed in this massif. Minakawaite (RhSb) and chengdeite (Ir3Fe) are found for the frst time in the Uralian Platinum Belt. The PGM assemblage of the Zheltaya Sopka massif is compared with that of the Iov, Yuda, and Sosnovsky dunite massifs of the northern part of the Uralian Platinum Belt. As a result, similar PGM assemblages with domi¬nant minerals of late assemblages are established in dunites of the Zheltaya Sopka massif. Chromites of the massif show no evident chromite-magnetite trend typical of clinopyroxenite-dunite massifs of the Urals and are relatively enriched in Cr2O3 and Al2O3 in comparison with chromite of other UPB massifs.

Alaskan-type complexes commonly contain primary platinum-group element (PGE) alloys and lack base-metal sulfides in their dunite and chromite-bearing rocks. They could therefore host PGE deposits with rare sulfide mineralization. A detailed scanning electron microscope investigation on dunites from the Xiadong Alaskan-type complex in the southern Central Asian Orogenic Belt revealed: various occurrences of platinum-group minerals (PGMs) that are dominated by inclusions in chromite grains containing abundant Ru, Os, S and a small amount of Pd and Te, indicating that they mainly formed prior to or simultaneously with the crystallization of the host minerals; A few Os–Ir–Rurich phases with iridium/platinum-group element (IPGE) alloy, anduoite (Ru,Ir,Ni)(As,S)2−x and irarsite (IrAsS) were observed in chromite fractures, and as laurite (RuS2) in clinopyroxene, which was likely related to late-stage hydrothermal alteration. The rocks in the Xiadong complex display large PGE variations with ∑PGE of 0.38–112 ppb. The dunite has the highest PGE concentrations (8.69–112 ppb), which is consistent with the presence of PGMs. Hornblende clinopyroxenite, hornblendite and hornblende gabbro were all depleted in PGEs, indicating that PGMs were likely already present at an early phase of magma and were mostly collected afterward in dunites during magma differentiation. Compared with the regional mafic–ultramafic intrusions in Eastern Tianshan, the Xiadong complex show overall higher average PGE concentration. This is consistent with the positive PGE anomalies revealed by regional geochemical surveys. The Xiadong complex, therefore, has potential for PGE exploration.

La blockchain et les communs sont deux concepts qui suscitent de plus en plus d’intérêt. Par des approches différentes, on prête à ces deux notions beaucoup d’espoir pour transformer notre société et répondre aux enjeux actuels de transition sociale et écologique. Pourtant peu de recherches les mettent en lien. D’autant plus que les travaux qui rapprochent la blockchain et les communs restent essentiellement théoriques. Nos recherches visent à mieux cerner comment la blockchain peut s’inscrire en support aux communs en situation réelle. Nous avons exploré plusieurs terrains qui incarnaient, de différentes manières, le rôle d’une technologie comme un outil au service d’une finalité collective. Nous avons commencé par observer la place centrale de la blockchain dans un dispositif sociotechnique de communs qui vise à produire et à autogérer la création monétaire (essai 1). Pour investir ce premier terrain de recherche, nous avons réalisé une étude de cas. Dans l’essai suivant, nous avons cherché à éclairer le rôle de la blockchain comme outil intégré dans un dispositif plus large d’expérimentation de communs de la donnée à l’échelle d’une ville (essai 2). Cette deuxième étude de cas a été murie par la réalisation d’une mission d’expertise de deux années dans un tiers lieu et s’est finalement focalisé sur le projet Européen DECODE. Enfin, notre dernier essai permet d’approfondir comment la blockchain pourrait permettre de soutenir économiquement les communs puisqu’elle bouleverse les perspectives de la monnaie par la démocratisation de ses formes alternatives, la facilitation de sa création et la complexification de son design (essai 3)
Blockchain and the commons are two concepts that are attracting more and more interest. Through different perspectives, these two notions raise a lot of hopes to transform our society and to answer the current challenges of social and ecological transition. However, there is little research linking them. Especially since the work that brings blockchain and the commons together remains essentially theoretical. Our work aims to better understand how blockchain can support the commons in real life situations. We explored several fields that embodied, in different ways, the role of a technology as a tool in the service of a collective purpose. We began by observing the key role of the blockchain in a commons that aims to produce and self-manage monetary creation (essay 1). To invest this first research field, we conducted a case study. In the following essay, we aimed to shed light on the role of blockchain as a tool integrated in a larger device for experimenting the data commons at the scale of a city (essay 2). This second case study was matured by the realization of a two-year expertise mission in a third place and finally focused on the European project DECODE. Finally, our last essay builds on the results of the first essay and explores how blockchain could economically support the commons as it disrupts the prospects of money through democratizing its alternative forms, facilitating its creation, and increasing the complexity of its design (essay 3)

Este trabalho apresenta os resultados dos estudos petrogenéticos detalhados realizados nos serpentinitos que constituem do Morro do Níquel, maciço ultrabásico mineralizado em níquel laterítico, situado na Faixa Brasília Meridional, ao norte da Zona de Sutura de Alterosa, localizado no Município de Pratápolis (MG), sul/sudoeste do Estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Os serpentinitos possuem cor verde escuro a preto, aspecto maciço e é constituído por mais de 95% de lizardita/crisotilo, com ocorrências localizadas de antigorita. O padrão estrutural do maciço é compatível com aqueles gerados pela deformação de em um corpo rígido em matriz dúctil dentro de zona de cisalhamento. Os dados mineralógicos, petrográficos e geoquímicos, em associação com os de campo e de descrição de testemunho de sondagem rotativa, apontam que o protólito destas rochas seria um corpo dunítico de granulação média a grossa e textura granular, suas dimensões seriam superiores a 800 x 400 metros e com mais de 350 metros de espessura. Os dados obtidos indicam que o dunito é mantélico e possibilitou propor um modelo evolutivo desde a exumação do manto até a colocação sobre embasamento TTG e serpentinização. A exumação se inicia com o adelgaçamento da crosta continental durante a instalação de um sistema rifte, que teria evoluído ao ponto de atingir a “super extensão” da crosta e o desenvolvimento de uma crosta oceânica. Com o fechamento do oceano decorrente de colisão continental, no neoproterozóico, o corpo dunítico foi alojado sobre o embasamento cristalino, na margem passiva da placa que contém o Cráton São Francisco. A serpentinização do dunito ocorreu tardi-pós aloctonia, catalisada pela atuação do Cinturão de Cisalhamento do Campo do Meio, em condições de fácies visto verde, fácies prehnita-pumpelyíta, com baixa fugacidade de oxigênio e enxofre e alta atividade de H2(aq.).
This work presents results from detailed petrogenetic studies performed on the Morro do Níquel (Nickel Hill) serpentinites, an ultrabasic massif mineralized in lateritic nickel, located in the Southern Brasília Belt, north of the Alterosa Suture Zone, Municipality of Pratápolis (MG), southwest of the State of Minas Gerais-Brazil. The serpentinite has a dark color, apparently massive aspect and consist of more than 95% lizardite / chrysotile, with localized occurrences of antigorite. The structural pattern of the massif is compatible with those generated by the shear of a rigid body in a ductile matrix within a shear zone. The mineralogical, petrographic and geochemical data, in association with the field and drill hole logs description, indicate that the protolith of these rocks would be a dunitic body of medium to large granulation and granular texture, with dimensions superior to 800 x 400 meters and with more than 350 meters of thickness. The obtained data indicate that the dunite is mantellic and it was possible to propose an evolutionary model from the exhumation of the mantle dunitc body to the emplacement on the TTG basement and serpentinization. The exhumation begins with the thinning of the continental crust during the installation of a rift system, evolving to allow the hyper-extension of the crust until the development of an oceanic crust. With the continental collision, in the Neoproterozoic, the dunite was hosted on the crystalline basement, in the passive margin of the plate that contains the San Francisco Craton. The dunite serpentinization occurred late-post aloctonia, catalyzed by the Campo do Meio Shear Belt, under conditions of green facies, prehnite-pumpelyite facies, with low fugacity of oxygen and sulfur and high H2 (aq.) activity.

Resumo: A crescente demanda por fertilizantes concomitante ao aumento dos preços desse insumo e a escassez de suas fontes levam a incessante busca por fontes alternativas de nutrientes para as plantas. Os afloramentos rochosos no Brasil coincidem com as localidades de áreas produtivas, tornando o acesso fácil dos produtores rurais à essas fontes, uma vez que o maior custo do pó de rocha está relacionado ao frete. Portanto, uma das alternativas estudadas é o uso de pó de dunito, rico em magnésio em culturas anuais, como soja e milho. Estas são uma das principais culturas do Brasil em área de produção. O objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar os efeitos de doses de pó de dunito no teor foliar de Magnésio (Mg) e Silício (Si), teores foliares de açúcares redutores, sacarose e amido, e atributos químicos de solo em dois tipos de solo. Os tratamentos consistiram em cinco doses de pó de dunito (0, 42, 208, 542 and 1542 mg kg-1) no solo argiloso e (0, 150, 238, 411 and 933 mg kg-1) no solo arenoso, respectivamente. Em ambos os solos, os teores de Mg e Si foliar, os açúcares redutores e glicose nas folhas, assim como pH, Mg, e Si do solo e os componentes de produção aumentaram com o aumento das doses de dunito. A melhor nutrição de Mg fornece menor teor de amido foliar e consequentemente melhor partição de metabolitos na planta, levando ao melhor desenvolvimento, enchimento e produção de grãos de soja.
Abstract: The growing demand for fertilizers, coupled with the increase in fertilizer prices and the scarcity of fertilizer sources, lead to the incessant search for alternative sources of nutrients for the plants. The rocky outcrops in Brazil coincide with the localities of agriculture productive areas, making access easy for rural producers to these sources, since the higher cost of rock dust is related to the transport. Therefore, one of the alternatives studied is the use of dunite powder, rich in magnesium in annual crops such as soybean and corn. These are one of the main crops of Brazil in production area. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of dunite rates on Magnesium (Mg), Silicon (Si), foliar contents of reducing sugars, sucrose, and starch, soil chemical attributes and soybean yield in two soil types. The treatments consisted in the five rates of Dunite (0, 42, 208, 542 and 1542 mg kg-1) in a clayey soil, and five rates of Dunite (0, 150, 238, 411 and 933 mg kg-1) in a sandy soil. In both soils, the Mg and Si leaves concentration, foliar reducing sugars, and glucose, as well as soil pH, Mg, and Si, and the yield components increased with input rates. The best Mg nutrition provides lower foliar starch levels, consequently, the best partition of metabolites to plant leads to better development, filling and yield of soybeans.

Observations at mid-ocean ridges indicate that magmas are focused to the ridge axis by a network of porous dunites in near chemical isolation. This thesis investigates several of the outstanding questions regarding the mechanisms of melt transport and its effects on the shallow mantle. Chapter 1 details the current understanding of melt migration from observations at mid-ocean ridges and ophiolites. Chapter 2 uses the size distribution and abundance of dunites measured in the Oman ophiolite to place limits on the potential mechanisms by which dunites form and subsequently estimate the flux of chemically unequilibrated melt which a network of dunites can supply. Chapter 3 characterizes the chemical composition of dunites and harzburgites from Oman to further constrain the process by which dunites form and relates the observed trends within dunites to variations in the time-integrated melt/rock ratio. Chapter 4 examines the microstructures of peridotites in Oman to constrain the deformation mechanisms which determine the viscosity of shallow mantle. Chapter 5 is a numerical investigation of advection beneath ridges incorporating the rheology inferred from the observed microstructures. Chapter 6 integrates the conclusions of the previous chapters, reevaluating the potential melt flux through dunites and constraining the permeability of the shallow mantle.

The project elaborated in frame of engineering studies is submitting the study of thermal properties of holding mixtures using different types of sand. Were tested a total of 5 sands: zirkon, ŠH22, chromite, olivine and dunite. Molding compounds were tested for thermal capacity, thermal conductivity and heat accumulation. The highest heat capacity was achieved in dunite sand. The largest heat accumulation had mixture with chromite sand and the best thermal conductivity was found in a mixture with olivine sand.

L'origine de la zone de transition dunitique (DTZ) à l'interface manteau-croûte est mal connue, ainsi que les processus physico-chimiques impliqués dans sa genèse. Pour aborder cette question, ce travail a porté sur l'étude pétrologique, géochimique et structurale de 20 coupes (600 échantillons) levées dans la DTZ du massif de Sumail (ophiolite d'Oman), épaisse de plus de 400 mètres à l'aplomb d'un paléo-diapir mantellique. Au-delà des données in situ sur minéraux (microsonde, LA-ICP-MS) et des compositions en éléments majeurs des roches totales, le développement d'une procédure analytique a permis l'acquisition des compositions en éléments en traces des dunites dont les teneurs sont de l'ordre du ng.g-1. La DTZ est faite de dunites pures (olivine et chromite) et de dunites imprégnées, contenant une quantité variable de minéraux interstitiels ayant cristallisé à partir d'un magma percolant. Ces faciès renferment des minéraux d'une variété insoupçonnée incluant, en plus de ceux clairement issus d'un MORB (clinopyroxène et plagioclase), de l'orthopyroxène, amphibole, grenat, et des diopsides témoignant d'un processus d'hybridation entre le MORB et des fluides hydratés. Les forts rapports Mg# et teneurs en TiO2 des orthopyroxènes et amphiboles ainsi que la composition des clinopyroxènes, intermédiaire entre clinopyroxènes magmatiques et diopsides hydrothermaux, a permis de contraindre la composition du magma hybride qui résulterait du mélange entre un magma d'affinité tholéiitique et un fluide supercritique riche en silice, voire trondhjémitique issu de la fusion incongruente hydratée des orthopyroxènes mantelliques, similaire au produit de fusion hydratée des roches environnantes (péridotites serpentinisées, troctolites, gabbros). Ces minéraux sont observés en position interstitielle et en inclusion dans les chromites, témoignant de leur origine précoce et du fait que les magmas hybrides ont participé à la formation de la DTZ. La combinaison des interprétations des données in situ et des données roches totales a permis la déconvolution du message polyphasé enregistré par les dunites : la signature du protolithe, celles de la dunitisation et du rééquilibrage de la matrice d'olivine avec un MORB percolant (métasomatisme cryptique), la signature de refertilisation par la cristallisation des minéraux interstitiels (métasomatisme modal), ainsi que les effets de la serpentinisation. Il apparaît que les dunites pures, caractérisées par un spectres de terres rares en forme de U ou de V, semblent avoir acquis cette signature très précocement, probablement lors de la phase initiale de leur genèse sous l'effet de rééquilibrages avec des liquides très riches en éléments incompatibles (REE, Th, U, HFSE) et pouvant correspondre au magma hybride. L'étude structurale de la DTZ dans le massif de Sumail a montré l'influence de la tectonique synmagmatique sur la structuration de la DTZ, se traduisant par l'alternance d'horizons imprégnés ou non ainsi que par l'évolution verticale sur plusieurs dizaines de mètres des compositions chimiques à l'approche des zones de failles. On l'observe notamment pour les teneurs en éléments immobiles dans les fluides tels que le Ti, les REE ou le Th. La DTZ semble s'être développée dans un environnement transtensif dont les deux systèmes de failles principaux N130 et N165-180 ont accommodé la percolation des magmas et fluides responsables de la dunitisation ainsi que l'introduction des fluides hydrothermaux pouvant conditionner les échanges globaux avec les enveloppes externes.La comparaison avec les DTZ d'autres massifs en Oman ou à Trinity (Californie), ayant évolué dans un contexte magmatique différent, montre également l'importance des failles synmagmatiques dans la structuration de la DTZ. Les liquides qui ont percolé dans ces DTZ apparaissent systématiquement sous-saturés en Al et saturés en H2O, amenant à interpréter le caractère hydraté comme une condition critique pour la genèse des dunites
The origin of the dunitic transition zone (DTZ) between the mantle and the crust is still largely unknown, as well as the physical and chemical processes involved in its genesis. To address this topic, this thesis focused on the petrological, geochemical and structural study of 20 cross-sections (600 samples) collected along the DTZ from the Sumail massif, Oman ophiolite, 400 meters thick and located above a former paleo-mantle diapir. In addition to mineral compositions acquired using in situ methods (microprobe, LA-ICP-MS) and to whole rock major elements, the development of an analytical procedure permitted to determine trace element contents in dunites that display low concentrations (regularly about one ng.g-1). The DTZ is made of pure dunites (olivine and minor chromites), and of impregnated ones, containing a variable amount of interstitial minerals that crystallized from a percolating melt. These latter rocks contain an unexpected mineralogical variety with, in addition to clinopyroxene and plagioclase showing a MORB affinity, the presence of orthopyroxene, amphibole, garnet and diopsides that highlights a hybridization process between the MORB and hydrated fluids. The high Mg# ratio and TiO2 content in orthopyroxene and amphibole together with the clinopyroxene composition, intermediate between igneous clinopyroxene and pure hydrothermal diopside, allow deciphering the nature of the parent melt as the result of the mixing between tholeiitic melt and a supercritical water enriched in silica, or trondhjemitic fluid issued from the hydrated incongruent melting of mantle orthopyroxene, similar to melts produced by the hydrated melting of country rocks (serpentinized peridotites, troctolites, gabbros). All these minerals are observed both in interstitial position and as inclusions in chromite, showing that they crystallized early and that hybrid melts participated to the genesis of the DTZ. The comparison between mineral and whole rock compositions permitted to highlight the different processes that led to the observed chemical signatures of dunites: the protolithe signature, the dunitization process, chemical reequilibration between the olivine matrix and the percolating MORB, refertilization following the crystallization of interstitial minerals, as well as the effects of later serpentinization. Pure dunites, characterized by U or V-shaped REE patterns, seem to have acquired early the LREE-enriched signature that probably results from the reequilibration with silica- and incompatible trace elements-rich fluids (REE, Th, U, HFSE) generated through the harzburgite orthopyroxenes incongruent melting and probably reflecting the hybrid melt that crystallized interstitial hydrous minerals. The structural study of the DTZ in Sumail highlights the effect of synmagmatic faults on the DTZ development, resulting in the alternation between pure and impregnated horizons as well as in the vertical chemical structuration with compositions evolving on few tens of meters until fault zones. This is particularly true for chemical species expected as immobile during weathering as Ti, REE or Th. The DTZ seems to have been developed in a transtensional environment structured by two main faults systems, oriented N130 and N165-180. These faults spatially constrained both the melt flow, thus the dunitization, and the introduction of hydrothermal fluids probably oceanic in origin. This meeting zone between igneous and hydrothermal fluids can strongly influence the chemical exchanges and distribution between the deep lithosphere and the surface. The comparison between the Sumail DTZ and other ones from Oman or Trinity (California) ophiolites, which evolved in a different magmatic setting, shows the systematic role of synmagmatic faults. Melts that percolated these other DTZ were under-saturated in Al and saturated in water, allowing to interpret the hydrated component as an essential condition for dunites genesis at the mantle-crust transition

Les gisements d'amiante de la boutonnière des Khzama (Anti-Atlas central, Maroc) sont associés à des serpentinites de harzburgites et de dunites d'origine cumulât de la base du complexe ophiolitique du protérozoïque supérieur. Ces serpentinites sont le résultat de trois événements postmagmatiques successifs: une serpentinisation par hydratation totale des protolithes anhydrés en milieu océanique statique, qui aboutit à l'apparition d'une paragenèse à lizardite + magnetite dans des textures pseudomorphiques préservant les textures magmatiques primaires, une serpentinisation par recristallisation partielle et une déformation en milieu continental sous un régime compressif aboutissant au développement de textures non pseudomorphiques en passant par des textures transitionnelles, au détriment des textures antérieures avec une paragenèse à chrysotile dominant + lizardite. Cet épisode est attribué à la phase tectonometamorphique de l'orogenèse panafricaine pendant le charriage et l'obduction de l'ophiolite, une fracturation en régime distensif attribuée à un relâchement post-obduction qui a permis le remplissage amiantifére à chrysotile dans les fractures ouvertes, par lessivage des épontes. Ces fractures minéralisées suivent globalement les alignements structuraux panafricains qui constituent ainsi le principal guide de prospection. Les contacts entre les enclaves massives (pyroxenites, gabbros ou même de serpentinite massive) et les serpentinites laminées (totalement hydratées et partiellement recristallisée), constituent le second guide de prospection. Les serpentinites trop laminées (totalement recristallisées) ou trop massives (résultant d'une simple hydratation), sont stériles

Different feedstocks Dunite, Olivine and Lizardite are examined in this research using various measuring techniques such as TGA-MS, XRD and Quantitative XRD and EDS. Quantitative XRD results matched with TGA-MS results. Malvern Mastersizer, EDS and QXRD results also showed a good match regarding the individuality of results which are shown graphically. TGA-MS calibration curves example is provided. Matching the results of different measuring techniques is a key to fundamental research. Comparison of the reactivity of dunite, soaked dunite, heat-activated dunite and lizardite and raw dunite soaked has been performed. TGA-MS and QXRD results match each other. Malvern Mastersizer, EDS and QXRD results match with their individual results indicating the instrument’s reliability. Semi-Quantitative XRD results authenticity is EXCELLENT. TGA-MS results match with QXRD is excellent. Mineral carbonation converts CO2 into stable mineral carbonates. This research explores the utilisation of serpentinised dunite (which is comprised of 61% lizardite) as a potential feedstock for mineral carbonation. Heat activation, ex-situ regrinding and concurrent grinding techniques were employed to enhance the reaction rate and yield, and to provide information on the carbonation reaction mechanism. Silica-rich layers that appeared during reference experiments were disrupted using concurrent grinding and significantly higher magnesite yields and Mg extractions were obtained.

ABSTRACT The ophiolite of the Buck Creek and Chunky Gal Mountain areas (North Carolina, USA) consist of very high-temperature mafic and ultramafic units. These mafic and ultramafic rocks were once part of the oceanic lithosphere before being subducted and then thrust into continental rock by the Taconic orogeny, which took place during the Paleozoic era. The thrusting of these mafic and ultramafic rocks into nearby metasedimentary rock was controlled by the Chunky Gal thrust fault. Studies on this ophiolite were mainly petrological, geochemical, and structural in nature. The main rocks of interest within this area are dunite, metatroctolite, and amphibolite. The dunite mostly consists of olivine and minor chromite spinels. Hydrous altered dunite may also consist of antigorite, chlorite, talc, and anthophyllite. This dunite is associated with minor scattered lenses of metatroctolite. The metatroctolite is dominated by plagioclase and olivine, which have symplectites and/or coronas of prograde minerals such as pyroxene, spinel, and sapphirine. Some of this metatroctolite was altered via hydration into chlorite schist and edenite-margarite schist, some of which is corundum-bearing. The dunite and metatroctolite are separated from the surrounding metasedimentary units by the surrounding Chunky Gal Amphibolite. This amphibolite, whose protolith is basaltic/gabbroic, is dominated by hornblende and plagioclase.

Annotation:
Zircons in zonal dunite-clinopyroxenite massifs represent a bank of isotopic data on the brightest moments in the life of his generations in the range up to 3 billion years. The chronological coincidence of the set of such dating forms distinct “family” clusters with reference homologous series of “named” impact events in strict galactic periodicity leads us to the unequivocal conclusion that these coincidences are a natural manifestation of galactic periodicity (with a period of 215 Ma) of all endogenous and impact events in the history of the Earth since the origin of the Earth-Moon system 4.515 billion years ago [20, 9]. The zonal dunite-clinopyroxenite massifs turn out to be the richest archives of isotopic information about the age and transformations of the Earth’s substance almost from the moment of its birth in the Hadean in bowels of the Earth.

Annotation:
Poikilitic chromite has been described only from komatiitic cumulates with >Fo91–92. Its formation is thought to be related to high temperatures inhibiting chromite nucleation. Here, we describe poikilitic chromites found in the olivine adcumulate (Fo<91) basal dunite series of the Näränkävaara intrusion, and suggest a formation mechanism for poikilitic chromite in intrusive settings whereby low oxygen fugacity in the parental magma inhibits chromite nucleation. Results of this and other recent studies from the Näränkävaara intrusion are summarized, and implications for massive sulfide exploration in Fennoscandian 2.44 Ga intrusions are presented.
