Scattering of electromagnetic plane waves from a coated perfect electromagnetic conductor (PEMC) circular cylinder placed under perfect electric conducting (PEC) wide double wedge is presented. It is assumed that the distance between the two wedges is large as compared to the wavelength. Therefore, the field at an observation point can be considered to be composed of the incident field plus a response field from each of the edges of double wedge and the cylinder. PEMC cylinder is taken to be infinite along its axis and has been coated with a double positive (DPS) or double negative (DNG) material. The transmission coefficient and diffraction pattern of PEC wide double wedge in the presence of both coated and uncoated PEMC cylinder are studied. Results of special cases for PEMC cylinder, compared with the published work, are found to be in fairly good agreement. The techniques of Clemmow, and Karp and Russek have been used to investigate the transmission coefficient and diffraction pattern of the double wedge in the presence of both coated and un-coated PEMC circular cylinder.

In order to solve the poor control accuracy problem of the traditional synchronous control algorithm for a double-cylinder forging hydraulic press, a synchronous control algorithm for double-cylinder forging hydraulic press based on a fuzzy neural network was proposed. According to the flow equation of valve and hydraulic cylinder, the balance equation and force balance equation of forging hydraulic cylinder are established by using the theory of electro-hydraulic servo systems, and the cylinder-controlled transfer function of forging hydraulic cylinder is deduced. By properly simplifying the transfer function, the mathematical model of synchronous control of double cylinder forging hydraulic press is established. According to the implementation process of traditional fuzzy neural networks, the properties of compensation operation are introduced. The traditional fuzzy neural network is optimized, and the optimized neural network is used to realize the synchronous control of the double cylinder forging hydraulic press. The experimental results show that the amplitude curve of the algorithm is very close to the expected amplitude curve, the error amplitude is only 0.3 mm, and the average control time is about 140 s, which fully shows that the algorithm has high accuracy and a good control effect.

The paper presents the measurement system of the air plane fuel mass consisting of cylinder shell resonating density meter and double cylinders capacitance level meter. The finite element analysis method of ANSYS10.0 is used to analyze the performance of cylinder shell resonator density meter and double cylinders capacitance fuel level sensor. On the base of simulation, the cylinder shell is 45mm in length, 9mm in radius, and 0.08mm in thickness, the material is 3J53; the double cylinders capacitance is 8mm in inside diameter, 23.6mm in outside diameter, and 550 mm in length. The experiments show the uncertainty of cylinder shell resonating density meter is only 0.12%, the uncertainty of double cylinders capacitance level meter is only 0.2%, and the uncertainty of the fuel mass measurement system is 0.4%.

The five double layer cylinder reticulated shells (single diagonal rod cylinder reticulated shell, Foeppl cylinder reticulated shell, double diagonal rod cylinder reticulated shell, lamella cylinder reticulated shell and three way grid of cylinder reticulated shell) are developed by adopting the upper and lower translation method. Five connection forms of web member (cross truss, positive four pyramidal, upend four pyramidal, evacuated positive four pyramidal, evacuated upend four pyramidal) and the methods of the node generation and element connection are established in the cylindrical coordinate system. By using the ANSYS parametric design language APDL, the corresponding parametric design macro program is developed so that the five double-layer cylindrical shells can be parametrically modeled under the given parameters such as shell type, shell span D, rise high t, thickness h, length L and number of grids m and n, etc. Examples prove that this method is simple, efficient and pragmatic, which provides great convenience for the force analysis and the optimization scheme comparison.

Position keeping properties of actuators depend highly on their stiffness. The low stiffness of pneumatic systems is well known, which is disadvantageous during positioning and when a position has to be kept. It is one of the reasons why hydraulic systems have advantages over pneumatic systems when it comes to positioning tasks. This paper deals with the analysis of the passive stiffness of a double-acting cylinder. The stiffness of pneumatic cylinders is derived as a function of chamber pressures determined by the bulk modulus of pneumatic systems. The stiffness of a passive system of the chambers is written by the pressure change through small displacement of the piston and as a result of the restoring force. In case of the passive system the effect of the valve actuation is neglected. From the deduction it is clear that the stiffness of a cylinder changes along the stroke, dead volumes at the end positions play a relatively important role. The results are compared with the restoring forces of the piston seals and other sealing elements in the stiction region. The restoring effects of the elastic elements were determined by measurements.

The pneumatic control system for double-cylinder collaborative loading is extensively applied in the industry. However, compared to the hydraulic system, it is difficult for the pneumatic system for double-cylinder collaborative loading to get satisfactory effect due to strong non-linearity and low rigidity. To improve robustness of the double-cylinder collaborative loading system and increase its control precision, the double-looped PID hybrid controller and doublevariable neural network PDI controller are designed. The comparative test is performed for them in research. The research results indicate that the neutral network control is strongly adaptive to the unknown, uncertain and non-linear features of the controlled objects, can effectively overcome unfavorable influences of the non-linear factors on the system, and improve the control quality.

Profile is the most important base in double-action compressor design. Different cylinder profile decides different working chamber volume in double-action sliding vane compressor. Five equations of cylinder profile were researched by calculating the working chamber volumes and a new cylinder profile equation of double-action sliding vane compressor was composed to get larger chamber. In same condition with the other equations, the working chamber volume of new profile is bigger than the old profiles over 20 percent while it has no change in the moving and friction characters. And a three dimensional model based on SolidWorks of a new profile was done. Finally, it was assembled successfully in computer to check the design.

Inner wall profile of the cylinder in a rotary vane compressor (RVC), which influences the motion characteristics of vanes, suction volume, friction characteristic, etc., plays an important role in the performance of the compressor. This work mainly aims at the profile design of a new cylinder for a double-acting RVC with harmonic profile cylinder on the basis of not changing integrate size. According to the relation between cylinder profile and vane motion characteristics, a method for the cylinder profile design is proposed in this paper. With an assumed vane motion, equations of the cylinder profile, cell volume of the compressor as well as pressure angles between vanes and cylinder inner wall are constructed preliminarily. And then through adjusting parameters and optimization with an independently developed procedure, a new cylinder with the so-called combined profile is obtained. Theoretical analysis of the cell volume variations and the pressure angles between vanes and cylinder are conducted. The results show that there is neither rigid impulse nor soft impulse between vanes and cylinder due to the vane continuous motion including displacement, velocity and acceleration. And the pressure angles between vane and cylinder and working volume of the compressor with the new profile cylinder are superior to harmonic profile cylinder, which is useful for the reduction of friction power in the operation of compressor. Experiments show that the cooling capacity and COP of the test refrigeration cycle with the proposed combined profile cylinder is higher than the compressor with harmonic profile cylinder. And the volumetric efficiency and isentropic efficiency of the compressor with combined profile cylinder have better performance. This method can be applied to the design of the cylinder for multiple-acting rotary vane compressors, rotary vane expanders and vane pumps.

In the extrusion machine with double booster cylinder hydraulic system, the stability of the extrusion velocity is affected because of the switching process of the two booster cylinders in the hydraulic system. In this paper, the analytical solution of the extrusion velocity fluctuation caused by the double booster cylinder hydraulic system is derived. Firstly, the model of the double booster cylinder hydraulic system was established, and the switching process of the two booster cylinders was studied under the condition of high pressure and high flow. Secondly, the traditional control method cannot obtain stable extrusion velocity under the condition of high pressure and high flow rate, and the new control method was proposed to significantly reduce the fluctuation of extrusion velocity. Thirdly, the fluctuation of extrusion velocity caused by the booster system was derived and the influence of the parameters of the hydraulic components such as the hydraulic cylinder and the hydraulic valve and the working conditions such as the flow rate and the pressure on the fluctuation of extrusion velocity was analyzed. Finally, based on the AMESIM software, the double booster cylinder hydraulic system of the 35 MN extrusion machine was simulated and analyzed. The numerical simulation results were used to verify the analytical solution of extrusion velocity fluctuation. The analytical solution can be applied to the engineering design of the hydraulic system and more in-depth optimization analysis.

A number of parametric studies were performed on a series of single, truncated cylinders in deep water using second-order potential theory. The cylinders were subjected to a monochromatic incident wave field. Second-order vertical diffraction force components were computed and plotted to illustrate their variation with cylinder aspect ratio and incident wave frequency. These plots make it possible to obtain rough estimates of vertical second-order diffraction force quantities on cylindrical components without having to perform second-order diffraction theory computations. The double-frequency heave response amplitude operator RAO(2) for a freely floating truncated cylinder is presented as a function of cylinder aspect ratio and incident wave frequency. Calculations of the RAO(2) were made using the total double-frequency diffraction force and the first-order radiation coefficients evaluated at the double-frequency.

Designed a new type of double inlet cylindrical cyclone. For search the separation performance in a cylindrical cyclone. By use of CFD,applied the RSM turbulence model and Euler two-phase flow method and ASM which to simulate separation process and flow field within a double inlet cylindrical cyclone. Then compared with the single inlet cyclone,obtained velocity distribution. Analyzed the differences of discrete phase volume fraction between different viscosity. The results show that the new-style cyclone caught more stable fluid field and higher separation efficiency. And when the viscosity is about 0.75 kg/m•s, the separation efficiency and stability of the oil core is higher. Preliminary flow field law is shown up.

Machine vibration, noise and cylinder barrel wearing are produced when ordinary piston air compressor driven by crank link mechanism is working. Piston air compressor driven by double-crank link mechanism is proposed in this paper to eliminate these problems. Secondary pressurized double-acting air compressor and two-stage double-acting air compressor based on symmetrical double-crank link mechanism are designed in this paper to increase air compressors output pressure and flow rate and to achieve output control of low pressure high flow and high pressure low flow. It can remove effects generated by lateral force, reduce the vibration and noise and the wearing of cylinder barrel, and improve the steadiness and the service life of the air compressor.

One-dimensional symmetrical explosive loadings are applied to expand structural components: tubular cylinders, spherical shells and rings of 304 stainless steel and double and single walled cylinders of an aluminum alloy, A5052 to fragmentation, and the effects of wall thicknesses, explosive driver diameters and the constant proportionality of the in-plane biaxial stretching rates are investigated on the deformation and fracture behavior of three types of single walled structures and shatterproof behavior for double walled cylinders experimentally and numerically. In the cylinder tests, the driver is a column of high explosive PETN, inserted coaxially into the bore of a cylinder and initiated by exploding a fine wire bundle at the column axis using a discharge current. In case of the ring tests, ring specimens are placed onto a cylinder charged with the PETN as an expansion driver, and for sphere tests, a specimen filled with the PETN is also initiated by exploding a fine copper wire line with small length located at the central point. Observation results of deformation have shown the final maximum in-plane stretching rate order of , and fracture evaluations on recovered fragments are discussed indicating the need of modified fragmentation model for the structural components. In the double walled cylinder tests, only for lowermost amount of the explosive the outer cylinder has almost caught the fragments of inner cylinder, revealing that the damage phenomena are much different from those for single walled ones.

Based on the ideas of wall-guiding-spray and spatial dispersion, A new type of diesel engine double-wall-jet combustion system is designed. The effect of speed, load and injection condition on the double-wall-jet combustion system is researched by testing, on the double-wall-jet combustion system, the combustion modes for whole working condition is analyzed, the comparison of combustion and performance between the original machine with the new one is carried out. The results showed that: Instantaneous heat release rate of double-wall-jet combustion system shows a single peak. As the speed increases, the corresponding crank angle of ignition retards, the peak outbreak pressure increases and then decreases, the peak instantaneous heat release rate, the peak average temperature, the peak cylinder pressure rise ratio, and the cumulative heat release per unit mass of working gas is reduced. As the load increases, the corresponding crank angles of peak cylinder pressure and gravity center of heat release rate are postponed. With the load increasing, the ignition crank angle corresponds early at low speed, and the ignition point does not change significantly with the load at high speed. The effect of the injector hole diameter/number on the cylinder pressure and instantaneous heat release rate curve is not significant at high speed and large loads, but at low speed and large loads is significant. Cylinder pressure of 6-Φ21 injector is higher than 5-Φ25, the instantaneous heat release rate of 6-Φ21 injector has a trend of a single peak, the instantaneous heat release rate of 5-Φ25 injector has a trend of a double peak and the focus of the heat release rate postponed. With the advancing of injection timing, the ignition crank angle and combustion phase advances, the peak cylinder pressure increases. Injection pressure has little effect on the combustion characteristics. By comparison with the original machine, while maintaining the power performance of the same circumstances, the cylinder pressure and NOx emissions of double-wall-jet engine are reduced in degree, fuel consumption rate is not almost changed, and the same plane rather, smoke intensity is improved at low speed, smoke intensity at high speed smoke high-speed only deteriorates of 0.2-0.3 BSU.

The double-acting air-oil intensifier designed in this paper can continuously output high pressure oil which meets the requirements of equipment that is high-pressure and with recirculation motion and it is driven by pneumatic substituting the independent hydraulic power source driven by electric motor. It consists of twin roller piston air cylinder, force amplifier, hydraulic cylinder and oil supercharger. The piston of air cylinder propelled by pressure gas makes cyclic motion and the driving force of piston increased by force amplifier pushes the piston of hydraulic cylinder and forces out hydraulic oil, then oil is input to the system after the second time when pressure amplification by oil superchargers. It has many advantages such as higher pressure ratio, compact structure, high efficiency, low cost and easy access to regulate pressure and flow rate.

The shock absorber plays an important role in the properties of stability and riding comfort of the vehicle. A virtual model of a double cylinder hydraulic vehicle shock absorber is developed for motion simulation and stress analysis by SolidWorks software. The kinematic character of the shock absorber was simulated by using the virtual model. And the stress analysis result showed that the shock absorber had high liability. All the results can also be helpful to design the double cylinder hydraulic vehicle shock absorber.

In the present study, a double-population thermal lattice Boltzmann was applied to solve phase change problem with natural convection in an eccentric annulus. The simulation of melting process from a concentrically and eccentrically placed inner hot cylinder inside an outer cold cylinder with Prandtl number of 6.2, Stefan number of 1 and Rayleigh number of 105 was carried out quantitatively. It was found that the position of the inner cylinder inside the outer cylinder significantly influence the flow patterns including the size and shape of two formed vortexes. It is also observed that the maximum of liquid fractions occurs where the inner cylinder is mounted at the bottom of outer cylinder.

A novel double-layered split die (DLSD) was designed to have higher pressure-bearing capacity and larger sample cavity volume. In DLSD, the cylinder and first layer supporting ring are split into several blocks. It has a prismatic cylinder and a quasi-prismatic sample cavity. The stress distribution of DLSD was investigated and compared with that of the conventional belt-type die (BTD) and a single-layered split die (SLSD) by the finite element method. The results show that the SLSD can only decrease the stress of the cylinder as there remains significant stress on the first layer supporting ring. However, the novel DLSD can, remarkably, decrease the stress placed on the cylinder and first layer supporting ring simultaneously due to the improvement of the stress states. Additionally, the maximum stress and pressure-bearing capacity of DLSD with different numbers of split blocks were further investigated. It is concluded that the maximum stress of the cylinder increases gradually with an increase in the number of split blocks. Meanwhile, the pressure-bearing capacity decreases accordingly. The experiments show that the pressure-bearing capacities of DLSD with 4 and 8 split blocks are all remarkably higher than that of the BTD. DLSD with 4 split blocks has relatively higher pressure-bearing capacity. This work presents a promising high-pressure die with a double-layered split structure for the synthesis of superhard materials.

AbstractThe use of aerospikes at the nose of a hypersonic vehicle can substantially reduce its drag; however, the associated heat flux at the reattachment point is very high for turbulent flows. In this paper, the aerothermodynamics of a generic projectile model represented by a hemisphere- cylinder, fitted axisymmetrically with an aerospike at the nose is investigated numerically with a commercially available Navier Stokes Solver. The base model is a hemisphere-cylinder with a diameter of 40mm and an overall length of 70mm. An aerospike protrudes axisymmetrically at the nose of the base model and has a hemispherical cap from which another aerospike protrudes which again has a hemispherical cap, thus forming a double-disk aerospike. Compressible, axisymmetric Navier-Stokes Equations are solved for turbulent hypersonic flow of thermally perfect air with free stream conditions of Mach No 6·2 at standard sea level atmospheric conditions. The results for the model with double-disk aerospikes are compared with those of hemisphere-cylinder without aerospike. The results suggest that the use of double-disk aerospike can favourably reduce the turbulent reattachment heat flux along with suitable drag reduction of the main body.

AbstractElectrophoresis of a cylinder suspended in a cylindrical tube is analytically studied in the limit of thin electric double layer approximation. The electric and fluid flow fields within the annulus, and the cylinder velocities are analytically obtained in bipolar coordinates. The results are analyzed with various values of dimensionless parameters: eccentricity, cylinder-to-tube radius ratio and tube-to-cylinder zeta potential ratio (i.e., tube-to-cylinder velocity scale ratio). The analysis shows that microvortices are generated within the annulus. By changing the parameters, different flow patterns can be created, which shows potential for mixing enhancement in micro/nanofluidics. Moreover, the cylinder not only translates but also rotates when the cylinder and tube are eccentric. The cylinder rotation might be utilized as a micromotor or an electric field detector. The cylinder trajectories show that the cylinder may approach the tube wall or rest within the tube depending on the zeta potential ratio.

The self-tuning fuzzy control algorithm was introduced to ensure the application of cylinder position control. The self-tuning fuzzy controller we designed applied the control model of double input of position deviation and its deviations rate and single output of control quantity. The study suggested that the position control precision may reach ±0.25 mm.This system can make the cylinder position to get high accuracy control.

A compact and flexible hydraulic double-cylinder actuation scheme is proposed for use in applications, especially where power density is extremely demanding. In view of flexible amounting requirements, long and thin hoses were utilized to connect two cylinders. Affecting the actuation preciseness, volume variation of the hoses caused by pressurized oil and bubbles was the main problem the system encountered. In this study, an active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) strategy was adopted for the improvement of displacement control performance under uncertain external load. After the experimental verification of the necessity of a hose model for the system, a centralized-parameter hose model was constructed where the coefficients are determined on the basis of the experimental data. Additionally, the system and the controller proposed were mathematically modeled. Simulation results shows that the system using ADRC exhibited higher displacement accuracy and better dynamic performance than that using PID (Proportion-Integral-Derivative) or fuzzy PID. ADRC has a stronger disturbance rejection ability. ADRC is an effective solution to nonlinear control of systems with uncertain parameters or various loads.
