The demonolexis in Yu. Andrukhovych’s long short story “Recreatsii” (“Recreations”) has been analyzed in the article. In the course of the research there have been outlined the following lexical-semantic groups of demonomens: toponymic and onomastic names, modified lexemes, names of the rituals, genuine Ukrainian demonomens, obscene words and expressions, demonomens of Biblical origin, names from the world mythology and general demonolexis. The special lexical-semantic group has been formed by non personificated demonomens, which serve to convey the peculiarities of the contemporary Ukrainian writers’ mentality, their habits through speech. Such nomens help to reveal the protagonist’s soul, show the positive and negative sides of his personal ego, demonstrate the duality of the human perception of the world, indicate the causes of phobias, emotions, sensations. Key words: demonolexis, demonomen, lexical-semantic group, non personificated demonomen.

SynopsisModern reports on lycanthropy mainly concentrate on the content of patients' beliefs in being transformed into an animal. By contrast, an interest in the form of the symptomatology is usually minimal. This paper draws on Karl Jaspers' phenomenological views and focuses on some important albeit neglected psychopathological issues related to form which are relevant to any comprehensive consideration of lycanthropic phenomena.

Abstract The material published here contributes in differing ways to amphora and onomastic studies. The rare name Demonomos appears on some stamps and the various aspects of name and stamp are balanced up. An understandable misreading by Flinders Petrie of a Rhodian stamp of c. 210 BC is corrected and its bearer identified. An inscribed amphora lid from Naukratis, probably of c. 100 BC and of Adriatic origin, has no known parallel. Three graffiti on amphoras of Cyrenaic origin reflect official civic dating usage and may also be of the first century BC.

Abstract The growth of asylums and their trained medical superintendents revealed many first-hand, observable examples of individuals anguished in mind and tortured in body due to their belief in divine communications, devils, witches, and spirits. For some psychiatrists such people demonstrated aberrant, relict mindsets and beliefs, but collectively they also challenged the psychiatric confidence that the enlightened West had progressed far beyond the benighted era of the witch trials. Psychiatric categories of insanity, such as demonomania, hysteria, and Folie à deux were applied to try and explain such modern manifestations. Come the turn of the twentieth century, though, and there was no sense that the profusion of asylums and their medical staff were in any way curing the perceived ills of belief in the supernatural.
