Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe present study aimed to evaluate the anatomic characteristics of the root bifurcations and compare them with the active tips of the curettes of Gracey and Pádua-Lima. One hundred ninety eight teeth were used, distributed among first and second upper and lower molars, from the Teeth Bank of the University of Taubaté. After received a numerical code, the teeth were photographed by a camera attached to a stereomicroscope. The images were scanned through a capture image program (Pixel View) and evaluated through a software program (Image Tool for Windows 2.0). The length of the root trunk, the divergence angle between the roots and the inter-root dimensions in the bifurcation region were evaluated. In the instruments, characteristics as width, thickness and length of the curettes blade were analyzed. After the statistics analysis, the results obtained showed that the 2MS buccal bifurcations are those least allow access by the instruments evaluated, and the Gracey curettes had access of the majority of the bifurcations. The mesiais and distal bifurcations of upper molars, to have greater inter-root dimensions distance and divergent angles, are those that allow access to more instrumental evaluated. Based in those results, we can conclude that the roots anatomic characteristics can be a factor to restriction the periodontal instrumentation.

Resumo: O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito da raspagem manual na superfície de conexões de implantes de titânio após o uso das seguintes curetas comercialmente disponíveis: 3i, Hu-Friedy, Premier, Prophy-Implant. As amostras foram nominadas ao acaso de A a G, e cada uma foi subdividida em quatro áreas para tratamento usando um diferente tipo de cureta. As amostras foram analisadas através de Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura (MEV) e de Rugosímetro. Esta análise foi realizada antes e após os tratamentos propostos que consistiram de instrumentação com curetas repetindo-a 40 vezes em cada área simulando a quantidade de raspagens realizadas sobre um implante após 5 anos de uso (fase1). Um procedimento similar foi usado, nas mesmas áreas, simulando a quantidade de raspagens realizadas sobre um implante após 10 anos de uso. As superfícies das conexões foram reavaliadas. Os dados obtidos pelo rugosímetro foram estatisticamente analisados usando testes de Tukey, Duncan e Scheffe em níveis de probabilidade de 5% e 10%. Os resultados relativos à análise rugosimétrica demonstraram que não houve diferenças significantes entre os grupos (p<0,05). A textura de cada superfície nas fases avaliadas, registrada pelo MEV, corresponderam aos aspectos morfológicos da superfície dos abutments obtidos pela leitura rugosimétrica
Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of hand scaling on the surface of titanium abutments after using the following commercially available instruments: 3i, Hu-Friedy, Premier, Prophy-Implant. The samples were randomly categorized from A to G and each one of them was subdivided in 4 areas for treatment using the different curettes types. The samples were analyzed through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the rugosimeter. This analysis was taken before and after the treatments proposed that consisted of repeated instrumentation (40 times each area) to simulate a 5 year old implant (phase 1). After phase 1, a similar procedure was used in the same areas in order to simulate a 1 O-year old implant. The abutment surfaces were reevaluated by SEM and rugosimeter. The data obtained by rugosimeter were statistically analyzed using Tukey, Duncan and Scheffe test at 5 and 10% levels of probability. The results indicated differences (p<0.05) between the control area corresponding to the Hu-Friedy instrumentation area and the Premier group areas after phase 1. After phase 2, the results regarding to the rugosimeter analysis demonstrated that there were no significant differences among the groups (p<0.05). The texture of each surface, registered by SEM, in the evaluated phases corresponded to the data obtained by the rugosimeter

Foram tomadas fotomicrografias (350X) do ângulo de corte e posteriormente avaliadas por um examinador calibrado através do índice do ângulo de corte. A analise estatística de Kruskal Wallis e comparações múltiplas mostraram que as técnicas 1 e 2 foram as melhores técnicas de afiação seguidas das técnicas 6, 5 e 8. As piores técnicas foram a 7, 9, 4, 0 e 3. A reafiação da face coronal das curetas produziu a formação de projeções metálicas não funcionais no ângulo de corte e finalmente não houve diferenças entre a afiação do extremo par e ímpar dos instrumentos em nenhuma das técnicas de afiação utilizadas.

The cutting edges was blindly evaluated on micrographs (X350) by one calibrated examiner (cutting angle index). A statistical analysis showed that techniques 1 and 2 were the best ones followed by a 6, 5 and 8 techniques. The worst techniques were a 7, 9, 4, 0 and 3. Resharpened on the coronal face of curettes generated a non functional wire edges on the cutting edge angle and there were not differences between the paired and unpaired extreme of the instruments resharpened.
