A participação social nas políticas públicas tornou-se um dos princípios organizativos diante das falhas no seu planejamento para o desenvolvimento local. Avaliou-se a atuação da comunidade local no processo de consolidação das políticas para o desenvolvimento socioeconômico e, a garantia dos padrões ambientais nas praias do Crispim (Marapanim), Atalaia (Salinópolis) e Ajuruteua (Bragança), no Estado do Pará, Brasil por meio de entrevista com membros dos órgãos federais, estaduais, municipais, associações comunitárias e de classe. Os resultados mostraram que o Projeto Orla é a principal política pública para o desenvolvimento socioeconômico e para manter os padrões ambientais. A mobilização comunitária é o principal resultado dessa atuação. O conflito e divergências de interesses dificultam a atuação dos próprios comunitários. A sazonalidade turística é a principal mudança relacionada ao tempo meteorológico. Conclui-se que a ausência da participação social causa o mau direcionamento das políticas públicas. We evaluated the performance of local community in the political consolidation process for socio-economic development and ensuring environmental standards in Crispim beaches (Marapanim), Atalaia (Salinópolis) and Ajuruteua (Bragança), in the state of Pará, Brazil trough interviews with members of the federal, state, municipal, community and professional associations. The results demonstrate that the Orla Project is the main public policy for socio-economic development and to maintain environmental standards. Community mobilization is the main result of this action. The conflict and differences of interest hampers the performance of the community themselves. It was concluded that the absence of social participation causes misdirection of public policy.Keywords: Social participation; Planning; Local development.

AbstractSitophilus zeamais is a key pest of stored grains. Its control is made, usually, using synthetic insecticides, despite their negative impacts. Botanical insecticides with fumigant/repellent properties may offer an alternative solution. This work describes the effects of Anethum graveolens, Petroselinum crispum, Foeniculum vulgare and Cuminum cyminum essential oils (EOs) and (S)-carvone, cuminaldehyde, estragole and (+)-fenchone towards adults of S. zeamais. Acute toxicity was assessed by fumigation and topical application. Repellence was evaluated by an area preference bioassay and two-choice test, using maize grains. LC50 determined by fumigation ranged from 51.8 to 535.8 mg L−1 air, with (S)-carvone being the most active. LD50 values for topical applications varied from 23 to 128 µg per adult for (S)-carvone > cuminaldehyde > A. graveolens > C. cyminum > P. crispum. All EOs/standard compounds reduced significantly the percentage of insects attracted to maize grains (65–80%) in the two-choice repellence test, whereas in the area preference bioassay RD50 varied from 1.4 to 45.2 µg cm−2, with cuminaldehyde, (S)-carvone and estragole being strongly repellents. Petroselinum crispum EO and cuminaldehyde affected the nutritional parameters relative growth rate, efficiency conversion index of ingested food and antifeeding effect, displaying antinutritional effects toward S. zeamais. In addition, P. crispum and C. cyminum EOs, as well as cuminaldehyde, showed the highest acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity in vitro (IC50 = 185, 235 and 214.5 µg mL−1, respectively). EOs/standard compounds exhibited acute toxicity, and some treatments showed antinutritional effects towards S. zeamais. Therefore, the tested plant products might be good candidates to be considered to prevent damages caused by this pest.

In ongoing screening research for edible plants, Petroselinum crispum essential oil was considered as a potential bioinsecticide with proven antimosquito activity against both the pyrethroid susceptible and resistant strains of Aedes aegypti. Due to the comparative mosquitocidal efficacy on these mosquitoes, this plant essential oil is promoted as an attractive candidate for further study in monitoring resistance of mosquito vectors. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of P. crispum essential oil on the biochemical characteristics of the target mosquito larvae of Ae. aegypti, by determining quantitative changes of key enzymes responsible for xenobiotic detoxification, including glutathione-S-transferases (GSTs), α- and β-esterases (α-/β-ESTs), acetylcholinesterase (AChE), acid and alkaline phosphatases (ACP and ALP) and mixed-function oxidases (MFO). Three populations of Ae. aegypti, comprising the pyrethroid susceptible Muang Chiang Mai-susceptible (MCM-S) strain and the pyrethroid resistant Pang Mai Dang-resistant (PMD-R) and Upakut-resistant (UPK-R) strains, were used as test organisms. Biochemical study of Ae. aegypti larvae prior to treatment with P. crispum essential oil revealed that apart from AChE, the baseline activity of most defensive enzymes, such as GSTs, α-/β-ESTs, ACP, ALP and MFO, in resistant UPK-R or PMD-R, was higher than that determined in susceptible MCM-S. However, after 24-h exposure to P. crispum essential oil, the pyrethroid susceptible and resistant Ae. aegypti showed similarity in biochemical features, with alterations of enzyme activity in the treated larvae, as compared to the controls. An increase in the activity levels of GSTs, α-/β-ESTs, ACP and ALP was recorded in all strains of P. crispum oil-treated Ae. aegypti larvae, whereas MFO and AChE activity in these mosquitoes was decreased. The recognizable larvicidal capability on pyrethroid resistant Ae. aegypti, and the inhibitory effect on AChE and MFO, emphasized the potential of P. crispum essential oil as an attractive alternative application for management of mosquito resistance in current and future control programs.

Las comunidades crustáceas de suelos en los ecosistemas desérticos del mundo tienen una microflora peculiar de importancia en laformación y estabilización de los suelos. El desierto Peruano Central se caracteriza por la formación de lomas y costras microbióticasdebido a la humedad. Colecciones de talos de las costras desérticas de las lomas de Pachacamac (Jatun Sisa) se realizó en noviembre de 1995y 1997. Inoculaciones de las costras y cultivos en medios Basal de Bold y N8 se realizaron a temperaturas promedio de 21°C y fueronseguidas hasta 1.5 años. La colonización algalJiquénica de las costras por las cianobacterias Scytonema crispum, Microcoleus vaginatusy Nostoc commune (Scytonemataceae, Oscillatoriaceae y Nostocaceae) y los líquenes Parmelia (Parmeliaceae) y Ramalina(Usneaceae) caracterizó a las comunidades saxícolas. Los talos cianobacteriales tuvieron mejor desarrollo en el período húmedo (noviembre,97) y en los cultivos. La variabilidad morfológica de los talos cianobacteriales con el desarrollo de la pared y estuche extracelulares enporciones de talos latentes así como de estadíos de resistencia (hormocistos) se presentó en períodos secos (noviembre, 95). La formaciónde hormocistos de S. crispum en la naturaleza y su germinación en cultivos explica la reactivación de estadíos de dormancia en condicioneshúmedas. Además la capacidad diazotrófica de las especies heterocistadas S. crispum y N. commune favoreció su colonización y perennización en estos eiosistemas. La plasticidad fenotípica de los talos cianobacteriales en condiciones climáticas fluctuantes en las lomas demostraron su estrategia de tolerancia al estrés hídrico por desecación.

Abstract Cultured parsley cells (Petroselinum crispum) treated with an elicitor from the soybean patho­gen, Phytophthora megasperma f. sp. glycinea, were used as source for the separation, extensive purification and characterization of S-adenosyl-ʟ-methionine: xanthotoxol and S-adenosyl-ʟ-m ethionine: bergaptol O-methyltransferases. The products, xanthotoxin and bcrgapten, were among the most abundant coumarin derivatives accumulated in the culture fluid of elicitor-treated parsley cells. The latter enzyme also catalyzed the methylation of 5-hydroxyxanthotoxin to isopimpinellin, another major coumarin derivative in this system. The activities of both enzymes showed transient increases upon elicitor application prior to the accumulation of the products. No activity was detectable in untreated cells. Activity increases of the O-methyltransferases occurred a few hours later than those of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase and 4-coumarate:CoA ligase.

Mill's most famous departure from Bentham is his distinction between higher and lower pleasures. This article argues that quality and quantity are independent and irreducible properties of pleasures that may be traded off against each other – as in the case of quality and quantity of wine. I argue that Mill is not committed to thinking that there are two distinct kinds of pleasure, or that ‘higher pleasures’ lexically dominate lower ones, and that the distinction is compatible with hedonism. I show how this interpretation not only makes sense of Mill but allows him to respond to famous problems, such as Crisp's Haydn and the oyster and Nozick's experience machine.

Streptococcus thermophilus relies heavily on two type II-A CRISPR-Cas systems, CRISPR1 and CRISPR3, to resist siphophage infections. One hallmark of these systems is the integration of a new spacer at the 5′ end of the CRISPR arrays following phage infection. However, we have previously shown that ectopic acquisition of spacers can occur within the CRISPR1 array. Here, we present evidence of the acquisition of new spacers within the array of CRISPR3 of S. thermophilus. The analysis of randomly selected bacteriophage-insensitive mutants of the strain Uy01 obtained after phage infection, as well as the comparison with other S. thermophilus strains with similar CRISPR3 content, showed that a specific spacer within the array could be responsible for misguiding the adaptation complex. These results also indicate that while the vast majority of new spacers are added at the 5′ end of the CRISPR array, ectopic spacer acquisition is a common feature of both CRISPR1 and CRISPR3 systems in S. thermophilus, and it can still provide phage resistance. Ectopic spacer acquisition also appears to have occurred naturally in some strains of Streptococcus pyogenes, suggesting that it is a general phenomenon, at least in type II-A systems.

The electrocatalysis behind the direct chemical-to-electrical energy interconversion is one of key facets in the development of sustainable economy. This results in a technological demand for a variety of applications such as electrical transportation, electrified synthesis and the grid balancing. Here are three examples of problematized electrocatalytic processes. (A) The sluggish kinetics and multistep character of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) are causing losses in electrical energy conversion and poor selectivity, which limit the wide implementation of oxygen-associated energy conversion technologies. (B) The water electrolysis yielding the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), the key process in technologies of green hydrogen, provides only 4% of worldwide hydrogen production due to the high catalyst cost. (C) The control of the proton-coupled electron transfers on organic redox molecules such as benzenediols. These three illustrate the stimulus of the intensive research on noble-metal-free electrocatalysts. Conducting polymers, the organic materials synthesised from abundant element, constitute a distinct class of molecular electrocatalysts [1, 2] attributed with behaviour of mixed ion-electron conductors (MIEC). Firstly, the landscape of ORR phenomena happening on p- and n-type conducting polymers at the mechanistic and device levels are discussed [1-3]. Secondly, the effect of proton supply is rationalized at both mechanistic and device levels for HER on PEDOT-triflate [4]. Sjeme povrtnih vrsta namijenjeno vrtlarima hobistima uglavnom je iz uvoza, kategorije standard i pakirano u sitnim pakiranjima. Uvoznici koji prepakiravaju sjeme obavezni su nakon pakiranja ispitati klijavost. Neprodane količine sjemena povlače se s tržišta na kraju sezone i plasiraju u iduće dvije do tri sezone bez kontrole klijavosti te se događa da sjeme u prodaji ima lošu klijavost ili uopće nije klijavo. Cilj istraživanja bio je ispitati klijavost sjemena 24 povrtne vrste na uzorcima partija sjemena skladištenih u klimatiziranom skladištu i na uzorcima istih partija koje je na tržištu dvije vegetacijske sezone te usporediti s ispitanom klijavosti nakon uvoza. Istraživanjem je utvrđeno da klijavost sjemena celera listaša (Apium graveolens var. secalinum L.), celera korjenaša (Apium graveolens L.), peršina listaša (Petroselium crispum ssp. crispum L.), poriluka (Allium porrum L.), boba (Vicia faba L.), paprike (Capsicum annuum L.) i špinata (Spinacia oleracea L.)pada neovisno o uvjetima skladištenja, dok uvjeti skladištenja značajno utječu na klijavost kupusa (Brassica oleracea L.), brokule (Brassica oleracea L. var. italica), salate (Lactuca sativa L.) i cikle (Beta vulgaris L. var. conditiva). Od ukupno 24 partije sjemena povrtnih vrsta uzorkovanih u skladištu dorađivača (uvoznika) njih 46% nakon 20 mjeseci ne zadovoljava propisanu minimalnu klijavost, dok od istih partija sjemena uzorkovanih u skladištu laboratorija (kontrolirani uvjeti) ne zadovoljava njih 29%. Skladištenjem sjemena na temperaturi 15° C na tamnom i suhom mjestu te kontrolom klijavosti nakon svake vegetacijske sezone može se značajno utjecati na kvalitetu sjemena povrtnih vrsta na tržištu.

A utilização empírica de Petroselinum crispum na cicatrização faz parte de práticas tradicionais do interior do Brasil. Entretanto, seus efeitos não haviam sido estabelecidos cientificamente. Objetivo: Avaliar o efeito cicatrizante do extrato de salsa em feridas de ratos e compará-lo ao tratamento com mel e à associação de salsa e mel. Metodologia: 60 ratos foram submetidos à anestesia, depilação manual, antissepsia e à incisão cirúrgica de 15 mm de diâmetro em região dorsal. Os animais foram distribuídos aleatoriamente em quatro grupos: controle (CT, n = 15), com aplicação de 1 grama de creme não-iônico; grupo salsa (S, n = 15), com aplicação de 1 grama de creme de extrato de salsa a 10%; grupo salsa e mel (SM, n = 15), com aplicação de 1 grama de creme de extrato de salsa a 10% e extrato de mel a 10%; grupo mel (M, n = 15), com aplicação de 1 grama de mel a 10%. Resultados: Identificaram-se células mononucleares em menor número, sinais flogísticos menos intensos e retração mais precoce das bordas das feridas nos grupos M, S e SM em relação ao CT. A quantidade de fibroblastos no início da avaliação foi maior nos grupos M, S e SM em relação ao CT, com declínio mais precoce. Conclusão: O uso tópico do extrato de salsa se demonstrou eficaz na reparação tecidual das feridas de ratos.

This paper reports for the first time in the Cerrado region of Brazil the occurrence of white mold caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum in coriander (Coriandum sativum), parsley (Petroselinum crispum) and Peruvian carrot (Arracacia xanthorrhiza). The disease was observed on coriander, in Cristalina, Goiás State, on parsley in Gama, the Federal District and on Peruvian carrot in Ibiá, Minas Gerais State. Pathogenicity tests demonstrated that the fungus S. sclerotiorum is the causal agent of the observed symptoms in these plants. The three isolates obtained from naturally infected plants were inoculated in coriander (cv. Verdão), parsley (cv. Lisa Gigante), Peruvian carrot (cv. Amarela de Senador Amaral) and carrot (cv. Forto Nantes) and they were pathogenic to these hosts. The fungus isolates were re-isolated from inoculated plants fulfilling Koch´s postulates and also confirming that S. sclerotiorum is a polyphagous pathogen.

The sceptical paradox which Kripke found in Wittgenstein?s rule-following considerations threatens the very notion of meaning. However, Kripke also offered a sceptical solution to it, according to which semantic sentences have no truth conditions, but their meaning is determined by assertability conditions instead. He presented Wittgenstein?s development as the abandoning of semantic realism of the Tractatus in favour of semantic antirealism, characteristic of Philosophical Investigations. Crispin Wright, although at points critical of Kripke?s interpretation, also understood the rule-following considerations as containing a crucial argument for antirealism. Contrary to Wright, John McDowell maintained that they offer a transcendental argument for realism. In this paper, I will argue that neither the realist nor the antirealist reading is faithfull to Wittgenstein, as his important conceptual distinction between criteria and symptoms is not adequately recoverable in any of them. Hence the upshot of rulefollowing considerations is that the distinction between realism and antirealism should not be articulated in terms of truth/assertability conditions.

Its migratory phenomenon spans Canada, the United States, and Mexico and it has been considered endangered since the 1980s (IUCN 1983).Ackery and Van-Wright (1984) compiled 45 species of food plants used by immature stages and 70 species of plants attractive to adults of the Monarch butterfly. Malcolm and Brower (1986) listed 28 host plant species recorded in nature. Lynch and Martin (1993) added six Asclepias species and observed larvae on three species of milkweed vine, Sarcostemma crispum and S. cynancroides in Texas, and Cynanchum laeve in Louisiana.

Solms-laubachia tianbaoshanensis, a new species from the scree slopes and alpine meadows of Hengduan Mountains of NW Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated. It resembles S. linearifolia and S. pulcherrima in gross morphology but differs in having crisped simple subhirsute trichomes to 2 mm long, persistent sepals, pink petals, and longer fruit. In addition, molecular phylogentic analyses based on sequences of nuclear ITS and chloroplast matK, petN-psbM, and trnL-F clearly showed that the new species is distinct from the other congeners.

Parsley (Petroselinum crispum) is an herbaceous vegetable used as foodstuff, spice and medicinal plant because it provides antioxidants especially flavonoids (apigenin), vitamins (K, C and A), and volatile oils, among other compounds. Because parsley has important concentrations of nitrates and flavonoids, very little vegetal pigment and a mild flavour profile, it was chosen for this study. The aim of this study was to obtain parsley juice rich in nitrite and polyphenols and to assess its antioxidant activity. To obtain nitrite from nitrate by enzymatic reaction, Staphylococcus xylosus ATCC 29971 was used as nitrate reductase source. To obtain the vegetable juice, fresh roots were minced and homogenized in aqueous solution. The sterile juice was filtered and then inoculated with S. xylosus and incubated at 37°C. The nitrate and nitrite concentrations (mg/L) were determined using a colorimetric method using salicylic acid and Griess reagent, respectively. The total polyphenols content (TPC) was measured with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and expressed as mg gallic acid equivalent / 100 mL (mg GAE / 100 mL). The total flavonoids content (TFC) was measured with aluminium chloride reagent, and expressed as mg catechin equivalent / 100 mL (mg CE / 100 mL). To determine the antioxidant activity of parsley juice, the ability to reduce DPPH synthetic radical, reducing power of Fe3+ ion and the capacity of chelating transition metal ions were assessed. Maximum concentration of nitrites was achieved for parsley juice in the presence of S. xylosus after 24 hours; TPC was 14.87 mg GAE / 100 mL and TFC was 11.21 mg CE / 100 mL. The ability of parsley fermented juice to reduce DPPH synthetic radical was 79.45%, while the capacity to reduce Fe3+ was 0.758 ± 0.14 (absorbance at 700 nm) and to chelate Fe2+ ion was 23.64%. Parsley juice represents an important source of natural nitrate and flavonoids, with important antioxidant capacity.

The enzymatic system of vegetables is well known as an efficient biocatalyst in the stereoselective reduction of ketones. Therefore, we decided to use the comminuted material of several plants including five vegetables (Apium graveolens L., Beta vulgaris L., Daucus carota L., Petroselinum crispum L., and Solanum tuberosum L.) and three fruits (Malus pumila L. “Golden” and “Kortland” as well as Pyrus communis L. “Konferencja”) to obtain enantiomerically pure carveol, which is commercially unavailable. Unexpectedly, all of the used biocatalysts not only reduced the carbonyl group of (4R)-(–)-carvone and (4S)-(+)-carvone, but also reduced the double bond in the cyclohexene ring. The results revealed that (4R)-(–)-carvone was transformed into (1R, 4R)- and (1S, 4R)-dihydrocarvones, and (1R,2R,4R)-dihydrocarveol. Although the enzymatic system of the potato transformed the substrate almost completely, the %de was not the highest. Potato yielded 92%; however, when carrot was used as the biocatalyst, it was possible to obtain 17% of (1R, 4R)-(+)-dihydrocarvone with 100% diastereomeric excess. In turn, the (4S)-(+)-carvone was transformed, using the biocatalysts, into (1R, 4S)- and (1S, 4S)-dihydrocarvones and dihydrocarveols. Complete substrate conversion was observed in biotransformation when potato was used. In the experiments using apple, (1R, 4S)-dihydrocarvone with 100% diastereomeric excess was obtained. Using NMR spectroscopy, we confirmed both diastereoisomers of 4(R)-1,2-dihydrocarveols, which were unseparated in the GC condition. Finally, we proved the high usefulness of vegetables for the biotransformation of both enantiomers of carvone as well as dihydrocarvone.

Proizvodnja peršina započinje odabirom kvalitetnog sjemena. S obzirom da je peršin kultura poznata po problematičnoj klijavosti, proizvođači bi prije sjetve svakako trebali provjeriti kvalitetu sjemena. Cilj rada bio je ispitivanje klijavosti sjemena i kvalitete presadnica peršina proizvedenih od sjemena četiri različita proizvođača. Sjemenke su posijane u supstrat Potgrond P namijenjen uzgoju presadnica povrća te su mjereni sljedeći parametri; klijavost sjemena, masa presadnica te ukupna dužina nadzemnog i korijenskog dijela. Dobiveni rezultati pokazuju da postoji razlika u klijavosti i kvaliteti presadnica uzgojenih od sjemena različitih proizvođača.

This text discusses McDowell?s position with regard to particular problems of Wittgenstein?s philosophy, primarily through his criticism of Saul Kripke?s and Crispin Wright?s interpretation of Wittgenstein?s understanding of rules. What these interpretations have in common are certain perspectives of the possibility of grasping rules, when the solution differs both from the explanation through interpretation and from the platonism of rules. According to McDowell, Kripke?s and Wright?s interpretation state that congruence of individuals and their behavior, that is, their use of language, comes before language norms and meanings. Normativity of linguistic rules is eliminated in this way, that is, it is compensated with description of current public use of language which basically does not follow Wittgenstein?s initial intention. Contrary to this, McDowell speaks about Wittgenstein?s emphasis placed on the autonomy of rules, as well as on the implicit normative basis of forms of life. The last part of the text considers justifiability of McDowell?s criticism of these two interpretations. It is also emphasized that beside the fact that particular objections referring to the importance of practice and interpretation are not sufficiently founded in writings of Kripke and Wright, there still is a significant criticism, which has substantially contributed to understanding Wittgenstein?s positions regarding rules and their practical basis.

In this study, 10 essential oils (EOs), from nine plants (Cinnamomum camphora, Curcuma longa, Citrus aurantium, Morinda citrifolia, Petroselinum crispum, Plectranthus amboinicus, Pittosporum senacia, Syzygium coriaceum, and Syzygium samarangense) were assessed for their antimicrobial, antiaging and antiproliferative properties. While only S. coriaceum, P. amboinicus (MIC: 0.50 mg/mL) and M. citrifolia (MIC: 2 mg/mL) EOs showed activity against Cutibacterium acnes, all EOs except S. samarangense EO demonstrated activity against Mycobacterium smegmatis (MIC: 0.125–0.50 mg/mL). The EOs were either fungistatic or fungicidal against one or both tested Candida species with minimum inhibitory/fungicidal concentrations of 0.016–32 mg/mL. The EOs also inhibited one or both key enzymes involved in skin aging, elastase and collagenase (IC50: 89.22–459.2 µg/mL; 0.17–0.18 mg/mL, respectively). Turmerone, previously identified in the C. longa EO, showed the highest binding affinity with the enzymes (binding energy: −5.11 and −6.64 kcal/mol). Only C. aurantium leaf, C. longa, P. amboinicus, P. senacia, S. coriaceum, and S. samarangense EOs were cytotoxic to the human malignant melanoma cells, UCT-MEL1 (IC50: 88.91–277.25 µg/mL). All the EOs, except M. citrifolia EO, were also cytotoxic to the human keratinocytes non-tumorigenic cells, HaCat (IC50: 33.73–250.90 µg/mL). Altogether, some interesting therapeutic properties of the EOs of pharmacological/cosmeceutical interests were observed, which warrants further investigations.

Ordovician land plants have long been suspected from indirect evidence of fossil spores, plant fragments, carbon isotopic studies, and paleosols, but now can be visualized from plant compressions in a Middle Ordovician (Darriwilian or 460 Ma) sinkhole at Douglas Dam, Tennessee, U. S. A. Five bryophyte clades and two fungal clades are represented: hornwort (Casterlorum crispum, new form genus and species), liverwort (Cestites mirabilis Caster & Brooks), balloonwort (Janegraya sibylla, new form genus and species), peat moss (Dollyphyton boucotii, new form genus and species), harsh moss (Edwardsiphyton ovatum, new form genus and species), endomycorrhiza (Palaeoglomus strotheri, new species) and lichen (Prototaxites honeggeri, new species). The Douglas Dam Lagerstätte is a benchmark assemblage of early plants and fungi on land. Ordovician plant diversity now supports the idea that life on land had increased terrestrial weathering to induce the Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event in the sea and latest Ordovician (Hirnantian) glaciation.

The aim of this study was to analyze how the customs´agenda were present in one of the official spaces, the twitter of ex-Minister of Education Abraham Weintraub, between April 2019 and June 2020. We dedicate to analyze the discourses in the posts - called tweets on this social network - that we identify as referring to customs´ agenda, linked to morality, having specificity to be related to some MEC action or not. As a result of this analysis, we find processes common to bolsonarism, such as the delegitimization of knowledge, especially in the Humanities and Arts, the alarmist theories about shambles in the Universities, the accusatory inversion against opponents and resentment marks expressed in discursive appropriations coming from social networks, like trolling and sealing. The ex-manager's performance exposes how this communicability with the mass of bolsonarist support placed him in a role of vice-leadership and at the same time impacted the actions of the Ministry, which guided his decisions on moral guidelines.ResumoO objetivo deste estudo foi analisar como as pautas de costumes estiveram presentes em um dos espaços oficiais, o twitter do ex-Ministro da Educação Abraham Weintraub, que esteve à frente do Ministério da Educação, entre abril de 2019 e junho de 2020. Para tanto, nós nos dedicamos a examinar os discursos publicados nas postagens – chamadas de tuítes, nessa rede social – que identificamos como referentes a pautas de costumes, ligadas à moralidade, tendo especificidade de se relacionarem a alguma ação do MEC ou não. Como resultado dessa análise, encontramos processos comuns ao bolsonarismo, como a deslegitimação do conhecimento, em especial das Ciências Humanas e Artes, as teorias alarmistas sobre balbúrdia nas Universidades, a inversão acusatória contra opositores e marcas de rancor expressas em apropriações discursivas advindas das redes sociais, como a trollagem e a lacração. Parsley (Petroselinum crispum) is an important aromatic herb that has gained importance in food and cosmetic industry, and it is used as medicinal plant due to the presence of compounds with biological activity. Several studies have demonstrated antioxidant, antimicrobial or cancer chemopreventive activity of different parts of parsley plants. We showed that the nutritional value of parsley leaves can be improved by treatments with beneficial microorganisms on the field crop. Streptomyces fulvissimus strain AtB-42 and Trichoderma harzianum strain T22 were applied, as singly or in combination (microbial consortium), at transplanting and two weeks later. After harvesting, plants were subjected to metabolomic analysis by LC and GC-MS. Spectrometric analysis resulted in the identification of seven polar metabolites. Results showed a significant difference in relative abundance of these metabolites among treatments. The AtB-42 application, alone or in combination with T22, induced the accumulation of petroselinic acid, while T22, alone or in combination, induced the accumulation of xanthotoxol/bergaptol and its derivative xanthotoxin/bergapten. The microbial consortium increased the accumulation of capsanthone compared to single treatments. No statistically relevant differences were found for the volatile fraction. It can be concluded that S. fulvissimus and T. harzianum significantly induced metabolic profile change of parsley and the accumulation of metabolites with nutraceutical value.

Abstract Previous work presented the profound antimosquito potential of Petroselinum crispum essential oil (PEO) against either the pyrethroid-susceptible or resistant strains of Aedes aegypti. This plant oil also inhibited the activity of acetylcholinesterase and mixed-function oxidases significantly, thus suggesting its potential as a synergist for improving mosquitocidal efficacy of insecticidal formulations. This study investigated the chemical composition, larvicidal activity, and potential synergism with synthetic insecticides of PEO and its main compounds for the purpose of interacting with insecticide resistance in mosquito vectors. The chemical profile of PEO, obtained by GC-MS analysis, showed a total of 17 bioactive compounds, accounting for 99.09% of the whole oil, with the most dominant constituents being thymol (74.57%), p-cymene (10.73%), and γ-terpinene (8.34%). All PEO constituents exhibited promising larvicidal effects, with LC50 values ranging from 19.47 to 59.75 ppm against Ae. aegypti, in both the pyrethroid-susceptible and resistant strains. Furthermore, combination-based bioassays revealed that PEO, thymol, p-cymene, and γ-terpinene enhanced the efficacy of temephos and deltamethrin significantly. The most effective synergist with temephos was PEO, which reduced LC50 values to 2.73, 4.94, and 3.28 ppb against MCM-S, PMD-R, and UPK-R, respectively, with synergism ratio (SR) values of 1.33, 1.38, and 2.12, respectively. The best synergist with deltamethrin also was PEO, which reduced LC50 values against MCM-S, PMD-R, and UPK-R to 0.008, 0.18, and 2.49 ppb, respectively, with SR values of 21.25, 9.00, and 4.06, respectively. This research promoted the potential for using essential oil and its principal constituents as not only alternative larvicides, but also attractive synergists for enhancing efficacy of existing conventional insecticides.

Stalk and petiole rot of herbaceous ornamental perennials, caused by S. rolfsii var. delphinii, is a widespread disease in landscape plantings and nursery production fields in the Midwest United States. A better understanding of perennation of the pathogen could aid in development of more effective management recommendations. Sclerotia of S. rolfsii var. delphinii were produced on strips of inoculated cotton batting placed on moistened sand in a plastic crisper. After one week at 27°C, sclerotia were removed, sealed in nylon mesh bags, and the bags were buried immediately below the soil surface and at 15-cm and 30-cm depths at two locations in Iowa in September 2001. Germination of sclerotia was quantified in October and November 2001 and in April, May, June, and July 2002 by plating recovered, surface-sterilized sclerotia on carrot agar amended with antibiotics. Survival was highly variable but in June and July was greatest at the soil surface (~50%). This is the first documented evidence that S. rolfsii var. delphinii will overwinter in the Midwest and survive a sufficient length of time to cause disease in the next growing season. During September 2004, downy mildew of parsley caused by a species of Plasmopara was observed in an experimental field of parsley (Petroselinum crispum subsp. crispum L. cv. Gigante d'Italia/Hilmar) in Borgeby in southern Sweden. The summer of 2004 was exceptionally wet and humid. Disease became widespread throughout the field in just a few days. Local growers reported that symptoms consistent with downy mildew had appeared in their parsley fields every year since 2001. Plasmopara, under P. nivea, has been reported on parsley in Europe since the middle of the 19th century (4). In recent years, this disease has caused severe damage to parsley grown in several European countries, e.g., France, Germany, Switzerland, and Belgium (1,3). The first symptoms appeared as faint chlorotic spots on the upper surfaces of the leaves. On the corresponding lower surfaces, mycelium and sporangiophores grew profusely and developed a white mat that in part turned dark gray. Eventually, the leaves and stalks became necrotic and died. The sporangiophores were monopodially branched, 248.4 ± 13.36 μm long (n = 17), each branch ending in 2 to 5 ultimate branchlets tapered toward the tip. The trunk diameter measured 7.0 ± 0.77 μm (n = 9) above the basal part and 6.1 ± 0.81 μm just below the first branch. The sporangia were broadly ellipsoidal to ellipsoidal, hyaline, 22.5 ± 0.73 μm long and 16.6 ± 0.48 μm wide (n μ 40). They were mostly nonpapillate when young, although exit pores 4.8 ± 0.32 μm (n = 10) were visible. Mature sporangia exhibited a dehiscence apparatus and a plug in the exit pore. On the basis of the characteristics above, the pathogen was identified as P. petroselini (= P. nivea pro parte [2]). Independent verification of the identity was done by O. Constantinescu at the Botanical Museum, Uppsala, Sweden. A voucher specimen was deposited at the Herbarium UPS, in Uppsala under the number UPS F-118873. Abstract This study explores the utilization of orthogonal CRISPR-based gene editing/modulation systems for combinatorial genetic screens using CRISPR knockout (CRISPR-KO), CRISPR activation (CRISPRa), and CRISPR interference (CRISPRi) functionalities. S. aureus (sa)Cas9 is an alternative nuclease to S. pyogenes (sp)Cas9 in scenarios where the latter cannot be used, or when multiple independent CRISPR systems need to be simultaneously expressed in the same cell. In this study we set out to explore the feasibility of utilizing different combinations of saCas9 and spCas9 CRISPR systems to achieve the simultaneous inactivation (via CRISPR-KO or CRISPRi) and transactivation (via CRISPRa) of different target genes in the same host cell. For this purpose, a complete set of tools for CRISPR/saCas9 gene editing and gene modulation was developed, compatible with CRISPR/spCas9 co-expression. Specifically, we developed and validated optimized saCas9 and sg(sa)RNA lentiviral and AAV vectors, dual expression (sp)/(sa)sgRNA lentiviral library vectors, as well as (sa)CRISPR-KO, (sa)CRISPRi, (sa)CRISPRa fluorescence-based activity kits for the functional validation of saCas9 expressing cell lines. Results demonstrating the feasibility of the orthogonal screens will be presented, with different combinations of CRISPR-KO, CRISPRa, and CRISPRi systems in multiple cell lines. Antibacterial activity of plants is a subject of interest in the search for new antibiotics and fungicidal preparations. This article analyzes the effectiveness of the action of extracts of plants on microorganisms: six species of bacteria (Salmonella typhimurium, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Corynebacterium xerosis, Proteus vulgaris) and one fungus (Candida albicans). For the assay, we used herbal material of 50 species (seeds, grass, shoots, leaves, compound fruit, peel) obtained at different periods of the growing season. We studied Levisticum officinale, Petroselinum crispum, Nerium oleander, Vinca minor, Eleutherococcus senticosus, E. sieboldianus, Yucca filamentosa, Artemisia annua, Echinacea purpurea, Matricaria recutita, Tanacetum vulgare, Betula pendula, Corylus avellana, Buxus sempervirens, Humulus lupulus, Crassula ovata, Bryophyllum daigremontianum, Juniperus communis, Platycladus orientalis, Cycas revoluta, Calluna vulgaris, Rhododendron ferrugineum, Ceratonia siliqua, Trigonella foenum-graecum, Ribes nigrum, Phellinus tuberculosus, Lavandula angustifolia, Melissa officinalis, Monarda fistulosa, Origanum vulgare, Salvia sclarea, Laurus nobilis, Punica granatum, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, Menispermum dauricum, Ficus benjamina, Morus alba, Paeonia suffruticosa, Picea abies, Adonis vernalis, Amelanchier ovalis, Prunus armeniaca, Crataegus monogyna, Citrus sinensis, Salix babylonica, Bergenia crassifolia, Schisandra chinensis, Taxus baccata and Xanthoria parietina. The alcohol tincture was filtered with sterile multi-layer gauze disc filters. Before the discs were put on the surface of agar with inoculation of the corresponding culture, they were dried in a sterile laminar box under ultraviolet rays. Antibacterial activity of various tinctures was determined by the disk diffusion method in agar with the measurement of the diameter of the growth suppression zone of the culture using a template ruler. Maximum inhibiting effect was achieved for Punica granatum on K. рneumonia, L. monocytogenes, S. typhimurium, P. vulgaris, C. хerosis and E. сoli, Lavandula angustifolia – on P. vulgaris, K. рneumonia and S. typhimurium, Echinacea purpurea – on C. аlbicans, E. сoli, P. vulgaris, K. рneumonia, Bergenia crassifolia – on P. vulgaris, K. pneumonia and S. typhimurium.

Parsley leaves (Petroselinum crispum L.) weighing 100 ± 0.09 g were dehydrated from moisture content of 82.24 ± 0.07% to 10.01 ± 0.02 % (wet basis) using the microwave (MD), convective (CD), solar oven (SOD), sun (SD) and natural (ND) drying. Drying in MD, CD, SOD, SD, and ND was completed at 18±1.15, 61±0.58, 255±10, 330±5.29, and 1530±11.55 min, respectively. The energy consumption of MD and CD was measured as 0.213±0.009 and 0.427±0.015 kWh, respectively. In microwave drying, 700 W microwave output power was applied while convective drying was used with 50°C temperature and 1m/s air velocity. The sun and solar oven drying processes were carried out under the same conditions at the same time. The average temperature of the system during the solar oven drying was 81.7±1.5°C whereas the airflow in the system was 0.5 m/s. The data obtained from the experiments were also modeled using twelve different thin-layer drying equations, and thus the theoretical data were obtained. According to these theoretical data, the best model in the microwave and natural drying was Alibas‘s equation while the most suitable model in the solar and convective drying was modified Henderson and Pabis‘s model. On the other hand, it was seen that the best model in the solar oven drying was the Page equation. As a result, considering both quality and drying parameters, it was determined that MD and SOD were the most suitable method for drying of parsley leaves.

During summer 2012, symptoms of a new leaf spot disease were observed in several commercial fields in Treviglio (Bergamo, northern Italy) on plants of curly (Cichorium endivia var. crispum) and Bavarian (C. endivia var. latifolium) endive (Asteraceae). This crop is widely grown in the region for fresh market. The first symptoms on leaves of affected plants consisted of small (1 mm) black-brown spots of irregular shape, later coalescing into larger spots, up to 10 to 15 mm diameter. Eventually, spots were surrounded by a yellow halo. Particularly, affected tissues rotted quickly under high moisture. Disease severity was greatest at 75 to 90% RH and air temperature between 23 and 30°C, where affected tissues rotted quickly. This disease resulted in severe production losses. On one farm in particular, three different fields totaling 2 ha, 5 to 13% of the plants were affected. Diseased tissue was excised, immersed in a solution containing 1% sodium hypochlorite for 60 s, rinsed in water, then placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium, containing 25 mg/liter of streptomycin sulphate. After 5 days, a fungus developed producing a whitish-orange mycelium when incubated under 12 h/day of fluorescent light at 23°C. The isolates obtained were purified on PDA. On this medium, they produced hyaline elliptical and ovoid conidia, rarely septate, measuring 5.0 to 9.0 × 1.7 to 3.9 (average 6.0 × 2.9) μm. Conidia were born on phialides, single, clavate, and 2.8 × 1.4 μm. Such characteristics are typical of Plectosphaerella sp. (1,2). The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of rDNA was amplified using the primers ITS1/ITS4 (3) and sequenced. BLAST analysis of the 530-bp segment obtained from C. endivia var. crispum isolate PLC28 and of the 527-bp from C. endivia var. latifolium isolate PLC 30, respectively, showed 99% similarity with the sequence of Plectosphaerella cucumerina (anamorph Plectosporium tabacinum), GenBank EU5945566. The nucleotide sequences of isolates PLC 28 and PLC 30 have been assigned the GenBank accession numbers KC293994 and KC293993, respectively. To confirm pathogenicity, tests were conducted on 30-day-old C. endivia plants. C. endivia var. crispum cv Myrna and C. endivia var. latifolium cv. Sardana plants, grown in 2-liter pots (1 plant per pot, 10 plants per treatment) were inoculated by spraying a 106 CFU/ml conidial suspension of the two isolates of P. cucumerina, prepared from 10-day-old cultures, grown on PDA. Inoculated plants were maintained in a growth chamber at 25 ± 1°C and 90% RH for 5 days. Non-inoculated plants, only sprayed with water, served as controls. All plants inoculated with the two isolates, showed typical leaf spots 7 days after the artificial inoculation, similar to those observed in the field. Later, spots enlarged and leaves rotted. Non-inoculated plants remained healthy. P. cucumerina was reisolated from inoculated plants. The pathogenicity tests were conducted twice with identical results. This is, to our knowledge, the first report of P. cucumerina on endive n Italy, as well as worldwide. Due to the importance of the crop in Italy, this disease can cause serious economic losses. By means of the immunochemical methods of double immuno diffusion and tandem crossed immuno electrophoresis we have compared the bifunctional enzyme RuBP carboxylase/oxygenase from tobacco mutants which differ with respect to their rates of photosynthesis and photorespiration. The comparative studies were carried out with a monospecific antiserum to the enzyme of the wild type Nicotiana tabacum var. John William’s Broadleaf. RuBP carboxylase/oxygenase from the green, yellow-green and yellow phenotype of the mutants namely N. tabacum Su/su, N. tabacum Su/su var. Aurea, N. tabacum var. Consolation, N. tabacum var. NC 95 and N. tabacum Xanthi (D 523) are immunochemical^ identical to the enzyme of the wild type N. tabacum var. John William’s Broadleaf. Furthermore, immunochemical identity of the RuBP carboxylase/oxygenase exists between Nicotiana tabacum and other representatives of the Solanaceae such as Solanum tuberosum, S. lycopersicum and Datura suaveolens. In contrast to this only partial identity to the enzymes of the C3-plants Antirrhinum majus, Spinacia oleracea, Sinapsis alba, Petroselinum crispum, Allium porrum, Hordeum vulgare, Avena sativa to the enzymes of the green alga Chlorella vulgaris and to the blue-green alga Oscillatoria chalybea as well as to the enzyme of the C4-plant Zea mays is observed.

The problem of resistance of pathogenic bacteria to antibiotics has become global and, therefore, there is renewed interest in the use of bacteriophages. However, bacteria also have phage defense structures, the CRISPR/Cas system. Therefore, the analysis of the structural diversity of CRISPR-Cas systems in the genomes of pathogenic bacteria and phages is an important fundamental and applied direction. The aim. Investigation of the diversity of structures of CRISPR/Cas systems in the genomes of S. enterica strains from the NCBI database using bioinformatics programs and assessment of the possibilities to identify phage protection of strains through spacers in CRISPR cassettes. The studies were carried out with the genomes of 449 S. enterica strains from the NCBI database. A number of bioinformation software methods were used: 1) MacSyFinder, 2) CRISPR Interactive database, 3) CRISPR R Tool, 4) CRISPI: a CRISPR Interactive database, 5) CRISPRFinder. Screening of phages through spacers CRISPR cassettes was used: 1) CRISPRTarget, 2) Mycobacteriophage Database, 3) Phages database. In the genomes of the studied strains of S. enterica, one type of CRISPR/Cas system, I-E, was identified. Protein genes were present in each locus of the CRISPR/Cas systems: Cas1_0_I-E_7, Cas2_0_I-E_8, Cas3_0_I_1, Cas5_0_I-E_5, Cas6_0_I-E_6, Cas7_0_I-E_4, Cse1_0_I-E_2, Cse2_0_I-E_3. The number of cassettes was from 1 to 3, and the spacers in them varied from 8 to 30. Repeats in CRISPR cassettes varied from 27 to 29 base pairs. The identified phages belonged to bacteria of the genera: Salmonella – 60%, Escherichia – 18%, Enterobacter – 9%, Salmonella – 8%, and Staphylococcus and Enterococcus were up to 5%. The obtained data on the diversity of CRISPR/Cas systems in the genomes of the studied S. enterica strains demonstrate their unique structures. The homogeneity of CRISPR/Cas systems and the rooting of CAS types I-E in genomes can be explained by their participation in the interspecific transmission of these CRISPR systems.

Many decision-making problems can solve successfully by traditional optimization methods with a well-defined configuration. The formulation of such optimization problems depends on crisply objective functions and a specific system of constraints. Nevertheless, in reality, in any decision-making process, it is often observed that due to some doubt or hesitation, it is pretty tricky for decision-maker(s) to specify the precise/crisp value of any parameters and compelled to take opinions from different experts which leads towards a set of conflicting values regarding satisfaction level of decision-maker(s). Therefore the real decision-making problem cannot always be deterministic. Various types of uncertainties in parameters make it fuzzy. This paper presents a practical mathematical framework to reflect the reality involved in any decision-making process. The proposed method has taken advantage of the hesitant fuzzy aggregation operator and presents a particular way to emerge in a decision-making process. For this purpose, we have discussed a couple of different hesitant fuzzy aggregation operators and developed linear and hyperbolic membership functions under hesitant fuzziness, which contains the concept of hesitant degrees for different objectives. Finally, an example based on a multiobjective optimization problem is presented to illustrate the validity and applicability of our proposed models.

Astrophysical black holes are often with companions, including other gravitating objects, accretion disks, electromagnetic fields, and others. Because of the nonlinear nature of general relativity, it is difficult to account for the gravitational effects of these companions, which can only be investigated analytically for very few cases. In this paper, we consider black holes with surrounding matter — often called dirty black holes — and analyze the absorption cross section of massless scalar fields. We start by laying out the generic setup for spherically symmetric scenarios and then specify for a simple model. We consider planar massless scalar waves impinging upon a Schwarzschild black hole surrounded by a thin spherical shell, and compute the absorption cross section. We present a selection of numerical results complementary to those presented in [C. F. B. Macedo, L. C. S. Leite and L. C. B. Crispino, Phys. Rev. D 93 (2016) 024027, arXiv:1511.08781 [gr-qc]] for arbitrary frequencies, considering different values of the shell position as well as its mass.

Despite being beneficial to humanity, the quick development of human gene editing technology has also brought up ethical, legal, societal, and technical issues. Its management, informed consent, privacy, and social equality are among the issues that require considerable attention.In an effort to give the scientific community something to think about, this article examines the state of gene editing today, its potential for the future, and the debates surrounding its application. It concentrates on the way the CRISPR/Cas system works, how CRISPER/Cas9 gene editing is used, and the range of problems it has brought up.

ABSTRACT The analysis of plant response to the cationic variability of the waters, in addition to the osmotic component, is indispensable in the context of salt stress. Thus, between October 2017 and February 2018, in Recife, PE, Brazil (8° 1’ 7” S and 34° 56’ 53” W, and altitude of 6.5 m), the present study was carried out to evaluate the water relations of parsley plants (Petroselinum crispum), cv. Graúda Portuguesa, cultivated in brackish nutrient solutions (electrical conductivities of 1.7, 2.7, 3.7, 4.7, 5.7 and 6.7 dS m-1) prepared in waters with different cationic natures (NaCl, CaCl2, KCl and MgCl2). The experimental design was completely randomized, in a 6 x 4 factorial scheme, with five repetitions, and five plants per plot. Two experiments were conducted sequentially under this statistical design; in the first, the evapotranspired depth was replaced with supply water (0.12 dS m-1) and in the second, with the respective brackish water. The increment in nutrient solution salinity influences the fresh and dry biomass and the percentages of total, shoot and root dry masses, and this increment led to different behavior in parsley physiology under the different cationic natures of the water, being less harmful with the use of supply water to replace the evapotranspired depth and with CaCl2 water with electrical conductivity above 5.7 dS m-1, in the replacement with brackish water.
