This article examines two walking events that explore questions of sovereignty, borders, histories, and time through strategies of speculation, counter-cartographies, and anarchiving practices. To the Landless by Dylan Miner and Miss Canadiana's Heritage and Cultural Walking Tour: The Grange by Camille Turner ask us to imagine a past, present, and future that are radically different from ongoing settler colonialism and White supremacy. Stepping ‘out of time’ has important implications for the kinds of research-creation events it germinates. Chronological time is so pervasive and powerful that we as qualitative researchers are often caught up in its neoliberal progress narrative. Walking with scholars and artists who refuse time's organization and the fixing or preservation of state narratives disrupts colonial legibility and the repeated imposition of the normative order. Unsettling time becomes a model for research and education that are outside colonial, neoliberal, and dominant ideologies. To unsettle something is to open it up to possibility.

The authors consider symbolic interactionism to be a suitable theoretical framework to analyze projects in creative sectors because it affords ample space for individual and collective creativity. Furthermore, teams working on different cultural artifacts establish a negotiated order (interactionist term coined by A. L. Strauss) among artists, managers, the audience, and sponsors, et cetera, by discussing and translating various meanings and perspectives. This is especially noticeable when projects are managed using an agile methodology. The application of agile methodologies in creative sectors is a relatively new idea, although it seems to be in harmony with the nature of artistic work. For instance, it implies the acceptance of unpredictability and flexibility while also recognizing the ability and individuality of project participants. There are also specific problems related to the personalities of the artists and the irregularities and discontinuities inherent in the process of creation. The first part of the article raises the topic of creativity in symbolic interactionism. This perspective is subsequently extended to teamwork in creative sectors employing the description of collective work in Howard Becker’s book entitled Art Worlds as an example. The authors reflect on other contemporary works explaining the cultural shift transpiring during the move from the analog age to the current digital age and its influence on the process of creation in the world of artists. This leads to a discussion of distributed agility, a concept stemming from agile management. The various agile methods are mentioned and shortly characterized; we also present a succinct depiction of historical perspective. The literature on the use of agile methods in creative sectors is referred to along with some of the challenges they face. The need to develop an agile management methodology specifically for creative industries is emphasized. This article utilizes the literature on symbolic interactionism to explain group dynamics by drawing analogies with agile management.

Perfumes industry has been exponentially developing due to last decade’s technological development, requiring larger investments and creative capacity from fine chemicals industry. Since creative capacity may be maximized through creation strategies and methodologies such as co-creation and design thinking, the aim of this paper is to analyze the role of design thinking in the process of co-creation among competitors. In order to achieve such aim, a unique case study was conducted in a representative enterprise in the Brazilian perfume industry, which was responsible for a triad co-creation process of a new product, involving two foreign competing companies in the fine chemicals industry. It is possible to assert that the paradigm shift with co-creation and design thinking strategies in such a knowledge and technology intensive industry maximized new products development process

Research into information systems development (ISD) methodologies is generally restricted to the creation or elaboration of methodologies or the provision of CASE support. This paper proposes that a fruitful area of research, which will provide insights into the effectiveness of ISD methodologies, must centre on the observation of the practice of systems developers, users and managers, and the study of methodologies in use. Such a programme requires certain techniques, ideally longitudinal ethnographic case studies. Preliminary results from a couple of case studies indicate that ISD methodologies are not used as prescribed but this does not necessarily prevent the successful completion of development projects.

The purpose of this research is to identify the impact of recent organizational change upon the culture of firefighting. The experiences of female firefighters were utilized as a measure of cultural change. A purposive sample of twenty-seven male and female firefighters were interviewed in a semi-structured format about their experiences in the fire service. This research found that the culture of firefighting has adjusted to the presence of previously excluded groups by forging a division among the identities and roles of male and female firefighters. The white, male firefighters, who have traditionally constituted a majority of the workforce, have continued to identify with traditional firefighter roles and reported high levels of cohesion. In contrast, the female firefighters showed a greater variance in their identification with traditional roles and decreased levels of cohesion with the main body of the group.

This dissertation explores the role of creative teaching methods in hospitality management education. It examines how hospitality lecturers and students perceive the role of creativity in a selection of higher education institutions in the Republic of Ireland. It also reports on the current level of creative leaching practices within the hospitality discipline in these institutions and how effective they are within the disciplinary and institutional contexts in which they occur. A mixed methods approach was used to gather the views of lecturers and students concerning creativity and its role in higher education within the hospitality discipline. The research adopted three traditional data collection methods: survey questionnaires, interviews and focus groups. The data from the student and lecturer surveys were combined with data from interviews and focus groups to provide an indication of the current levels of creativity in teaching methods. On the whole, the hospitality lecturers and students in the study supported the use of creative teaching methods to enhance hospitality education. This position is consistent with current literature in the field. A range of factors and conditions were identified by the research as enabling or inhibiting the adoption of creative teaching methods in hospitality management education. These included challenging working conditions and a lack of available resources. Additionally, this research was used to identify what the respondents perceived as missing from hospitality education and how teaching and learning could be improved. The results suggest that questions need to be asked about the structure of many hospitality management programmes. The consensus among lecturers and students was the need for a more practically orientated curriculum and increased opportunities for structured work placements. In summary the results of this study add to our understanding of how hospitality lecturers and students perceive the role of creativity in higher education. They also indicate the current level of creative teaching practices within the hospitality discipline and how effective they are within the disciplinary and institutional contexts in which they are practised.

The application of systems engineering methodologies to the creative process provides opportunities to improve the creative capabilities of individuals and organizations. Through creativity and systems engineering research, the creative process is equated to the systems engineering process. This allows creativity itself to be defined as a system. Defining creativity as a system permits the analysis of the creative process and the construction of a systems engineering based process model for creativity. Process based creativity theories are decomposed and reformulated into a process flow that acknowledges the iterative and recursive nature of the creative process. The derived process flow is then integrated with systems engineering process elements to construct a process model for creativity. The production of a systems engineering derived process model for creativity allows future opportunities to improve that process model by incorporating new creativity research and/or additional influences on creativity, increasing the fidelity of the model. The proposed process model also invites future research into the efficacy of the model. Through the use of systems engineering, creativity research may be incorporated and refined to build an evolving process model for creativity.

Annotation:
Although arc flash has been a concern amongst the electrical industry for many years, it is only relatively recently that standards by the IEEE have been established on calculating the amount of energy behind an arc flash event. However, these standards only apply to AC systems, where extensive testing and research have been performed. Although the NFPA has provided recommendations on how to calculate the incident energy for DC arc flash events, these have not become the defining standard like those seen for AC. One equation outlined in the NFPA70E, the Maximum Power Method, does provide engineers with a formula to calculate DC arc flash incident energy but as the NFPA states this can be quite conservative. However, the NFPA70E also mentions a Detailed Arcing Current and Energy Calculations Method which contains formulas proposed by various researchers who conducted their own DC arc flash testing but there is scarce info on how these methods compare to the Maximum Power Method. This paper will investigate the relative power of two of the formulas proposed in the alternate method, the results from Stokes/Oppenlander and the results from Paukert, over a variety of parameters that affect DC arcing power. These will then be compared to relative power of the Maximum Power Method, as well as the relative power of the AC equations formed from measurements. Although the results in this paper are not aiming to be a defining standard, the aim is to provide engineers with information on when one methodology is more suitable to use for a given set of certain parameters.

This document will account the process, from research and analysis through post-production reflection, of directing and choreographing Crazy For You in the mainstage academic season of Southern Illinois University Carbondale's Theater Department in the Fall of 2010. Further, this paper highlights the more prominent aspects in order to continue the author's work to deconstruct and define the musical theatre genre. Chapter One focuses on two major aspects of current perceptions of musical theatre in an effort to address the genre's efficacy. The chapter first examines how musical theatre is defined and critiqued by the outsider and sometimes inadequately handled by the practitioner. Next, the development of the genre is examined as it pertains to the genesis of Crazy For You, both book and music, as well as contemporary relevance. The second chapter opens with a statement of specific objectives for this production process along with a discussion of vision and concept. The latter half examines the most relevant research employed early in the process. Chapter Three details issues from design and production meetings through rehearsals and performances while the final chapter reflects upon the effectiveness of the aforementioned tactics and objectives. The Appendices include additional documents pertinent to the overall discussion.

As part of its strategic initiatives, ABB inaugurated a 100,000 sq-m campus for an Engineering, Sourcing, and Manufacturing Operations center in San Luis Potosi (SLP), Mexico in May 2008. The ramp-up of the SLP site encompassed two focus areas that are the topics for this thesis. The first area of focus was to create a business development guide that supports Mexican and North American division managers, plant managers, and their supporting personnel to successfully establish new business in SLP. Having such a guide available is expected to reduce start-up time of operations, increase decision-making speed, improve productivity in multi-divisional projects, and ultimately increase potential internal business opportunities. This thesis presents a case study on how this guide was designed, developed, and implemented. The second focus area was to implement several Lean principles, the most significant one being "5S." A case study on its planned application, procedure to measure implementation level and effectiveness on quality, productivity, and on-time delivery is discussed. A discussion on the stronger emphasis by management on implementation measurement versus effectiveness measurement and possible reasons for this gap of expectations is also presented. Finally, the production area for the Robot Refurbishment line was redesigned based on the target of reducing factory floor space for use in other ventures, meanwhile simultaneously increasing lead times in the manufacturing process.

AbstractThe chapter describes the methodology applied throughout the experimentation, the application of co-design, the tools used and their role briefly illustrating the single cases. The underlying assumption is that design methodologies and tools are more suitable to support co-creation for the inclusion of society in science and innovation since their aim is to implement co-creation processes from the ideation of new products, services and processes to their real implementation. What differentiates design from other co-creation methodologies is the role of prototypes and their experimentation in real contexts.

AbstractCitizen science practices have different frames to general scientific research – the adoption of participatory methods in research design has long been pursued in citizen science projects. The citizen science research design process should be inclusive, flexible, and adaptive in all its stages, from research question formulation to evidence-based collective results. Some citizen science initiatives adopt strategies that include co-creation techniques and methodologies from a wide variety of disciplines and practices. In this sense, the will to collaborate between researchers and other stakeholders is not new. It is traditionally found in public participation in science, including participatory action research (PAR) and the involvement of civil society organisations (CSOs) in research, as well as in mediatory structures, such as science shops. This chapter critically reviews methodologies, techniques, skills, and participation based on experiences of civic involvement and co-creation in research and discusses their limitations and potential improvements. Our focus is on the reflexivity approach and infrastructure needed to design citizen science projects, as well as associated key roles. Existing tools that can be used to enhance and improve citizen participation at each stage of the research process will also be explored. We conclude with a series of reflections on participatory practices.

AbstractIn line with the growth in citizen science projects and participants, there are an increasing number of guidelines on different aspects of citizen science (e.g. specific concepts and methodologies; data management; and project implementation) pitched at different levels of experience and expertise. However, it is not always easy for practitioners to know which is the most suitable guideline for their needs. This chapter presents a general classification of guidelines, illustrating and analysing examples of each type. Drawing on the EU-Citizen.Science project, we outline criteria for categorising guidelines to enable users to find the right one and to ensure that guidelines reach their intended audience. We discuss challenges and weaknesses around the use and creation of guidelines and, as a practical conclusion, provide a set of recommendations to consider when creating guidelines.

Shape grammars provide the means to represent the physical embodiment of a class of products in a set of generative rules. Once developed, the shape grammar can be used to generate new forms through automated synthesis or interaction by one or more designers. However, a fundamental shortcoming of this rule-based system is that creating the shape rules is time consuming and imprecise. The traditional approach to create a set of rules from an existing set of products was an ad hoc process of generalizing form, identifying feature options, and classifying logical subdivisions of the complete product geometry. This paper proposes a formal method of shape grammar creation that is aligned with well-known design methodologies and tools in order to enable the creation of a shape grammar during the product development process. The established methodologies for creating functional models and modular products provide many of the requisite steps for creating a shape grammar and provide a skeleton onto which a rule creation approach can be mapped.

This paper shows a model of teacher training developed by the XXX of the ZZZ, aimed at introducing teachers to the use of innovative methodologies for learning Mathematics and for developing disciplinary and cross-cutting competences. The learning methodologies proposed are mainly based on Problem Posing and Problem Solving, the use of an Advanced Computing Environment, of a Virtual Learning Environment and of an Automated Assessment System. The training model, designed in blended modality, mainly relies on the creation of an online community of practice, where teachers, supported by tutors, collaborate in the creation of interactive learning materials for their classes. They acquire competences not only in the use of learning technologies, but also on sharing and collaborating in virtual environments; they learn how to develop self-tailored didactic methodologies. The key strengths of this model are highlighted and the results, achieved after the experimentation in several projects, are discussed, showing the effectiveness of the model.

In today’s increasingly competitive market environment, new packaging must meet more requirements than before to meet customer expectations. The packaging must meet not only functional and aesthetic requirements but also ergonomic requirements to ensure satisfying user experience. An important issue in ergonomic design is the identification of factors that lead to user comfort and discomfort. The packaging is a product that undergoes manual manipulation and given the various forms of packaging and it's opening and closing systems, they require using different grip types and movements. Using packaging that is not well designed can cause intense physical exertion and frustration for users. The subject of this paper is a review of methodologies for assessing the ergonomics of packaging products. Methodologies for evaluating the ergonomic characteristics of packaging provide a proposal for structuring the investigation. Also, it gives a proposal for the proper prioritization of a packaging problem that should be identified as the most dangerous risks for physical injuries or for causing stressful situations to users. First, it is necessary to gain a clear insight into how the users handle the packaging in order to create knowledge and a clear idea of what is useful or harmful in the existing packaging design and to find the potential for its improvement. There are various methods for studying, analyzing and evaluating user experience while using a packaging. Combining such methods with knowledge of the anatomical structure of the body and how it reacts to the load enables the creation of efficient and ergonomically designed packaging. This paper will present methodologies and guidelines for assessing and improving the ergonomic qualities of packaging. The aim of this paper is to define the key factors and most relevant methodologies for conducting successful ergonomic research.

The concept of the digital twin dates all the way back to the 1950’s when NASA, GE and other industrial manufacturers started creating abstract digital models of equipment to model their performance in simulations and maintain a record of the asset throughout its life span [1]. Over the years more and more industries have adopted the digital twin paradigm to improve traceability, maintenance, and analytics allowing for improved sustainment of the asset or equipment while reducing various risks identified during life cycle management. It has been found that collectively, the digital twin concept improves the overall net present value of an asset. The oil and gas industry has slowly been adopting the digital twin paradigm of asset life cycle management over the past two decades with the focus on facilities. Recently, field trials were completed to test and evaluate workflows and sensor platforms for the creation of a digital twin for pipelines. The trials resulted in highly accurate pipeline centerlines, weld locations, Depth to Cover (DoC) and ditch geometry capture in digital formats. This paper describes the methodologies used, and the results of an actual construction field trial with a comparison to traditional data collection methods for these attributes. The value of creating a pipeline digital twin during pipeline construction in near-real-time is discussed with an emphasis on the potential benefits to life cycle management and pipeline integrity.

Annotation:
The definition and understanding of community-centered preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE) research lacks analytical clarity. This chapter examines this concept with a focus on the Southeast Asian context, reflecting on opportunities, challenges, and pitfalls, to lay the foundation for future theorization and comparative P/CVE research in local contexts. Collaboration with independent and genuine community actors is advantageous for all stakeholders, since deficient trust, tamed and crystallized relationships, and a lack of resources and capacities can result in biased research findings. The chapter advocates for the establishment of research and evaluation frameworks in National Action Plans, with the aim to set out common definitions, measurement tools, and methodologies in consultation with all stakeholders, including community actors. This is a necessary step in producing systematic, cumulative, and comparative research and evaluation findings that hold true across local contexts. Finally, the chapter discusses the ethical implications of conducting community-centered P/CVE research with minority communities––such as the creation of suspicious, ostracized, and alienated communities––as well as with majority communities. It also speaks to the potential for research findings and topics of focus interfering in or being instrumentalized to impact a country’s democratic process. Although the Southeast Asian context is used to discuss the opportunities and challenges of the different approaches to community-centered P/CVE research, key findings are likely relevant to other contexts.
