Cellulose cross linking is a very important textile process and has application in the crease resistant finished textile products. N-methylol cross linkers give fabrics desirable mechanical stability properties, but also reduces strength and release formaldehyde, a known human carcinogenic. Our work is based on reactions of particularly hospital green vat dyed cellulose with materials that creates an ionic character to the cellulose. These reactions produce ionic cellulose that can react with a poly ionic material of opposite charge to form cross links. The ionic content of the fabric and various features of the application procedure were varied to optimize the results.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to compare the value creation of cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&As) in mature and emerging markets. Design/methodology/approach The empirical study is based on a sample of 285 cross-border M&As announced between 2010 and 2012 and completed by companies of the French SBF 120 index in 54 countries. Findings The statistical analysis shows how financial markets react before and after the announcement of M&As. The obtained findings highlight significant differences: the reaction of financial markets before the announcement is moderately positive for M&As in mature economies, but negative for those in emerging economies; their reaction after the announcement is clearly positive for M&As in mature markets and moderately positive for those in emerging markets. Research limitations/implications Future studies on M&A value creation should differentiate mature and emerging economies and adopt a more in-depth classification of target countries. Practical implications This research emphasizes the necessity to consider country-specific factors for M&A value creation. Originality/value The empirical study is based on a sample of French acquirers, who account for 3 percent of the volume and value of M&As in the world and whose operations are rarely studied in the literature. The authors compare the reaction of financial markets before and after the announcement of M&As conducted in mature and emerging economies.

One of the most interesting problems in Cataclysmic Variables is the long time scale evolution. This problem appears in long time evolution, which is also very important in the search for the progenitor of SN Ia. The classical approach to overcome this problem in the simulation of novae evolution is to assume: (1) A constant in time, rate of mass transfer. (2) The mass transfer rate that does not vary throughout the life time of the nova, even when many eruptions are considered. Here we show that these assumptions are valid only for a single thermonuclear flash and such a calculation cannot be the basis for extrapolation of the behavior over many flashes. In particular, such calculation cannot be used to predict under what conditions an accreting WD may reach the Chandrasekhar mass and collapse. We report on a new code to attack this problem. The basic idea is to create two parallel processes, one calculating the mass losing star and the other the accreting white dwarf. The two processes communicate continuously with each other and follow the time depended mass loss.

In our approach we have combined knowledge of Old Masters (working in this field before the year 1905), New Masters (working in this field after the year 1905) and Dissidents under the guidance of Louis de Broglie and David Bohm. In our model the quantum particle is represented as the Huygens-de Broglie’s particle on the helical path (full wave) guided by the Newton-Bohm entangled helical evolute (Bohmian Pilot Wave). These individual Huygens - de Broglie particles in the Young - Feynman double - slit experiment react with Wilhelm Wien’s photons that are always present inside of the apparatus (Wien’s displacement law). Wilhelm Wien’s photons form collectively the Wien filter guiding the Huygens - de Broglie particles through the double - slit barrier towards a detector (BohEmian Pilot Wave). The interplay of those events creates the observed interference pattern. In the very well-known formula describing the intensity of double-slit diffraction patterns we have newly introduced the concept curvature κ of the Huygens - de Broglie particle and thus giving a physical interpretation for the Newton - Bohm guiding wave (the Bohmian Pilot Wave): for photons κ = π/λ, for electrons κ = 2π/λ. Moreover, we have introduced into that formula the expression λmax from the Wien’s displacement law to describe geometry of the double - slit barrier. We propose to modify the value λmax by the change of the system temperature. There is a second experimental possibility - we can insert into those slits filters to remove Wien’s photons while the Huygens - de Broglie particles continue towards a detector - we should observe the particle behavior. The similar situation might occur in the Mach - Zehnder interferometer. In this case the individual Huygens - de Broglie particle reacts in the first beam splitter with the Wien photon: the Huygens - de Broglie particle goes through one path while the Wien photon goes through the second path. In the second beam splitter they interact again and create the interference pattern on one detector. We can experimentally modify the resulting interference pattern in the Mach - Zehnder interferometer - by the temperature change of the system or by inserting filters to remove Wien’s photons from one or both paths. Can it be that Nature cleverly creates those interference patterns while the Bohmian pilot wave and the BohEmian pilot wave are hidden in plain sight? We want to pass this concept into the hands of Readers of this Journal better educated in the Mathematics and Physics.

Abstract The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is one of four national organizations to receive funding from CDC to disseminate arthritis-appropriate evidence-based interventions (AAEBIs). NRPA has partnered with Fit & Strong!, a CDC-approved AAEBI and National Council on Aging falls prevention program, to disseminate through local park and recreation agencies across the country. To meet the needs of this dissemination effort, Fit & Strong! adapted its in-person instructor training into an online curriculum which became available March 2018. After initial pilot-testing, Fit & Strong! created a five-module training curriculum using Moodle teaching software. The training curriculum uses slides, graphics, videos, and interactive questions to assess mastery. After completing the training, fidelity checks are performed on all instructors by having them video record a class session and share it with the Fit & Strong! team for review. After evaluating the videos, the team meets with the instructors by phone to debrief and advise on any needed improvements. Through this partnership, Fit & Strong! trained an initial cohort of 39 instructors across 18 states within a month’s time. Training evaluation results have been positive. To date, over 900 participants have been reached. A second cohort of approximately 40 new instructors will be trained in Spring 2019. This presentation will review the processes of creating and executing the online training, potential cost and time-saving benefits to CBOs, instructor feedback, and the ease with which instructors can complete the training and offer the program anywhere across the country.

ABSTRACTAlthough many university educators and administrators seek to promote student research, opportunities to do so often are rare or costly. This case study of the undergraduate academic journalClocks&Cloudsprovides a clear model for reaping the rewards of this high-impact educational experience based on peer learning. The goal of this article is to institutionalize knowledge by reviewingClocks&Clouds, American University's undergraduate research journal in political science, international relations, and public policy. Input from three successive teams of student leaders, as well as interviews with administrators and faculty members at American University, suggests a method for creating a journal and "lessons learned" that can be applied at other institutions. The article builds on the research of Mariani et al. (2013), which considered various organizational strategies that political science departments use to structure undergraduate student publications. It highlights three facets of a model undergraduate journal in political science: organizational structures, peer-review process, and funding and resources. The purpose of this study was to encourage other undergraduate programs in political science to create student research publications and expand the reach of this high-impact educational practice.

With the present study, children and young adults were asked to estimate how far a cued target was from a response target in immediate and response-delay conditions. Based on maximum reach of each participant, target locations in peripersonal and extrapersonal space were created. ANOVA results for accuracy indicated differences between Age within Condition and Space. Overall, adults were more accurate than children. Analysis revealed that with delays of superior or equal to 2 s, performance affected all groups, but most notably the 5- and 7-year-olds. In summary, these findings suggest that young children have greater difficulty processing allocentric cues in the context of reach in delay paradigms.

Based on interviews with Swiss journalists who specialise in war and international reportage, this article investigates the extent to which social media impacts on reportage of war and conflict. The interviews examine journalists’ perceptions of the threats and opportunities posed by use of social media in reporting conflict, by investigating how journalists position themselves and their practices within this new media ecosystem. In particular, the interviews explore whether challenges to professional journalism encountered in previous studies of reportage of war and conflict are overcome by the use of social media. It explores if social media can mitigate the effects of military and government restriction of information, changing newsroom dynamics and issues of audience engagement in reportage of conflict. The findings highlight that in the context of war and conflict the dynamism creates opportunities for fast, news dissemination, pluralised voices in reportage and extended audience reach. However, reporters must also negotiate the complexities that fast, multi-medium and multi-sourced information create for reporting practices, especially in terms of verification of information and contextualisation. Thus this article argues that although social media adds dynamism to journalistic environments, this dynamism also brings new levels of complexity to journalistic practice that professional media workers must negotiate.

As the platforms become more oligopolistic, the Japanese government has established a data portability that enables users to transfer from any specific platform, at any time, to open up an environment where new platform-type businesses are created one after another and where active competition is carried out. In this policy discussion, it is necessary to seek methods that include realistic international cooperation that is not subject to regulation or intervention-oriented measures. In addition, discussion based on economic empirical analysis is particularly needed. From the viewpoints of ensuring innovative research and development (R&D) concerning artificial intelligence (AI) and fair competition generally, the way of the Governance of AI Networking should be a nonregulatory and a nonbinding way, taking technical features and responsibility distribution among stakeholders (developers, providers, end users, and third parties) into account.

One way to do this is in the classroom: this paper provides a detailed how-to for instructors interested in having students create new Wikipedia content. We provide a case study in Wikipedia engagement from an advanced undergraduate course on African Archaeology, assess a program (Wiki Education) designed to help, and suggest further avenues for future outreach. For centuries Christianity has emerged as the most sex adverse religion on earth. However, it was not Jesus who made the world chaste. Indeed it was the world that made Jesus chaste. When reading the Bible it is obvious that the scriptures are anything but hostile towards sex. Eroticism is one of God’s great gifts to humankind. There is a connection between spirituality and sexuality. Both are part of a force that allows man to reach out – to reach beyond himself to make connections to and with others. Today sexuality is accepted as being created by God and Christianity is no longer hostile towards sexuality. Nonetheless, conservative Christians still lock up sexuality within the boundaries of lifelong heterosexual marriage, and liberal Christians do not discuss sexuality very often.

Background Behavioral health researchers are increasingly recognizing the potential of mobile phone apps to deliver empirically supported treatments. However, current options for developing apps typically require large amounts of expertise or money. Objective This paper aims to describe a pragmatic do-it-yourself approach for researchers to create and pilot an Android mobile phone app using existing survey software (eg, Qualtrics survey platform). Methods This study was conducted at an academic research center in the United States focused on developing and evaluating behavioral health technologies. The process outlined in this paper was derived and condensed from the steps to building an existing app intervention, iCanThrive, which was developed to enhance mental well-being in women cancer survivors. Results This paper describes an inexpensive, practical process that uses a widely available survey software, such as Qualtrics, to create and pilot a mobile phone intervention that is presented to participants as a Web viewer app that is downloaded from the Google Play store. Health researchers who are interested in using this process to pilot apps are encouraged to inquire about the survey platforms available to them, the level of security those survey platforms provide, and the regulatory guidelines set forth by their institution. Conclusions As app interventions continue to gain interest among researchers and consumers alike, it is important to find new ways to efficiently develop and pilot app interventions before committing a large amount of resources. Mobile phone app interventions are an important component to discovering new ways to reach and support individuals with behavioral or mental health disorders.

Bringing a new life to the world is a wonder to every mother. Experience faced by pregnant mothers vary from one pregnancy to another pregnancy. There is a vast amount of information available on the Internet and printed materials. Yet, this knowledge is too complex or lengthy and very few applications provide customized information to pregnant mothers. In a time where smart phones have become a necessity in our life, a mobile app is one of the easiest ways to obtain prenatal information. Hence, we have developed a mobile application to help pregnant mothers. This application includes an artificial intelligence (AI) based chatbot. AI chat bot communicates and guides the mother in a way that creates the illusion as if they are talking to their unborn child. The Spiral Model was used as the development methodology and the application was developed in an environment of continuous integration and deployment with GIT personal repository. This application was implemented using React Native and the Node.js. Chat bot was created with Dialogflow agent and integrated with the firebase through the Google cloud functions. Some existing applications were studied to identify the features and limitations of current pregnancy care mobile applications. This solution is realistic and successful and it has an upgradable model of growth. The rapid development of the Internet and mobile devices in the world has changed people's lifestyles. This mobile app will be helpful for pregnant mothers living in rural as well as in metropolitan areas alike and can enhance education and health.

Dyslexia is a relatively common language disorder which is generally ignored in rural communities. It hinders children’s learning processes and, in some cases, is the cause of dropouts or violence in schools. The present work strives to create a web and mobile app as a preliminary step towards the diagnosis and treatment of dyslexic children. Apps providing didactic educational games and activities improve literacy skills for students with reading disabilities. The current work incorporates user experience and prototyping to fulfill app requirements. The authors evaluated the apps with the Mobile App Rating Scale (MARS) tool to assess engagement, functionality, aesthetics, and information. The app’s improvements were immediately implemented and tested in the “Escuela Linea Equinoccial” (Ecuador) school, proving its utility for future use in the education system. The app can be a valuable tool for children with dyslexia to progress successfully through school, raising their self-confidence and, thereby, helping them reach their full potential as adults able to make a positive contribution to society.

Gibson (1979/1986) argued that exploratory movements generate information about agents’ action-capabilities within a given environment, that is, about the agent-environment system’s affordances. To date, the scant literature on exploratory movements has revealed two important findings. First, restricting exploratory movements degrades the accuracy of affordance judgments (Mark et al., 1990; Yu, Bardy, & Stoffregen, 2011). Second, exploratory movements can be very subtle (Stoffregen, Yang, & Bardy, 2005; Yu, Bardy, & Stoffregen, 2011). However, many questions regarding exploratory movements have yet to be answered. For example, what exploratory movements are necessary to perceive a given affordance, and how do exploratory movements differ from related movements? Our long-term goal is to address such gaps in the literature. We decided to begin by examining what exploratory movements must be executed in order to perceive whether the actor can reach an object. Reaching exploratory movements likely have two key components: 1) head movements and 2) shoulder movements. The former can generate information about the absolute distance between the actor and the to-be-reached object (Bingham & Stassen, 1994), and have been confirmed to be necessary to produce accurate reaching judgments (Mantel, Stoffregen, Campbell & Bardy, 2015). The latter generates information about the actor’s arm length (Anderson & Turvey, 1998; Shibata, Gyoba, & Takeshima, 2012;), but their necessity to the reach-ability judgment has yet to be studied. The current experiment used a restriction paradigm to determine whether exploratory arm movements are necessary to make accurate reaching judgments. Participants (n = 32) judged their maximum reaching ability either while holding their arms behind their backs with their dominant hand grasping their non-dominant wrist (the Restricted condition), or while their arms swung naturally at their sides (the Unrestricted condition). Judgments were made actively, by walking forward or backward, in order to allow participants to generate the exploratory movements they would normally create (with the exception of arm movements in the Restricted condition) when moving toward an object with the intention to perform a reach (Mantel, Bardy, & Stoffregen, 2010). The study utilized a within-subjects design, with starting condition counterbalanced. For each condition, participants completed 1 practice trial followed by 9 experimental trials. Starting distances (from object) and angles were drawn equally and randomly from ranges of 1 – 24”, 25 – 48”, 49 – 72”, and 0 - 29o, 30 - 59o, 60 - 89o, respectively. Distances and angles were not repeated to prevent memorization. In line with previous affordance perception research, the dependent variable, Accuracy, was computed in terms of percentage of absolute error (|[judged maximum reach / actual maximum reach] -1| *100) (Oudejans, Michaels, Bakker, & Dolné, 1996). Accuracy was significantly greater when arm movements were unrestricted as compared to restricted, supporting the theory that exploratory arm movements are a component of reach-ability judgments. Reaching judgments in neither condition were perfectly accurate, which may have been due to the reaching judgment being the focal task (Heft, 1993). The present results have practical implications for operational situations in which actors’ arm movements might be restricted. For example, U.S. police and military personnel sometimes wear body armor that covers their shoulders, mounts ballistic plates to their upper arms, or some combination thereof. To the extent that such body armor restricts arm movements, then our results suggest that their reach-ability judgments would be degraded.

The application uses a meteorological API that obtains real-time temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity, speed, and wind direction of each location within an area using geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) for creating a sensor network. The data are stored in a database for monitoring and visualization using the open-source platform Grafana, which includes an early warning mechanism that sends messages when it detects a temperature outside the normal range. Three different simulation scenarios were evaluated, varying the fire’s starting point coordinates and the evacuation route. The results show that the algorithm reacts to the presence of fire, maximizing safety margins even on longer evacuation routes. The prototype can be used to create an application to fight forest fires and safeguard rescue agents’ lives.

e14007 Background: The medical oncology patient population is at high risk for adverse effects and complications related to anti-cancer treatments. The cost of oncology care is projected to reach almost $160 billion in 2020. The ongoing cost trajectory has placed a significant financial burden on patients, families, and society as a whole. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) has developed a new payment and delivery model that identifies potentially preventable conditions for ED visits/rehospitalizations among patients that are receiving anti-cancer therapies. Proposed CMS changes have created increased urgency around avoiding preventable ED visits/rehospitalizations. In response to the need for high quality, patient centered, cost effective care, we have established an APP-led acute care clinic that specializes in oncology care. Methods: The Clinical Assessment and Rapid Evaluation (CARE) Clinic offers acute care and symptom management catered to the oncology population. Patients are able to receive lab and imaging work up in addition to intervention with IV fluids, anti-emetics, opioids, electrolytes or antibiotics, as well as blood/platelets as warranted. To assess patient satisfaction, we created an anonymous four question survey delivered to CARE clinic patients over a two month period. Results: Seventy five surveys were collected. Pain and nausea were the leading reasons for encounters. 91% of patients rated their care as excellent, while 9% of patients rated their care as good. 33% of patients reported they would have been seen in the ED if the CARE Clinic was not available. Conclusions: The CARE Clinic represents a unique, one of the first of its kind, acute care and symptom management entity that utilizes an APP model to provide high quality care at a low cost. More research is needed to identify if this model can create statistically significant reduction in ED visits and rehospitalizations, however current data suggests that patients are highly satisfied with this unique method of care delivery. Abstract. The effect of aerosol on clouds poses one of the largest uncertainties in estimating the anthropogenic contribution to climate change. Small human-induced perturbations to cloud characteristics via aerosol pathways can create a change in the top-of-atmosphere radiative forcing of hundreds of Wm−2. Here we focus on links between aerosol and deep convective clouds of the Atlantic and Pacific Intertropical Convergence Zones, noting that the aerosol environment in each region is entirely different. The tops of these vertically developed clouds consisting of mostly ice can reach high levels of the atmosphere, overshooting the lower stratosphere and reaching altitudes greater than 16 km. We show a link between aerosol, clouds and the free atmosphere wind profile that can change the magnitude and sign of the overall climate radiative forcing. We find that increased aerosol loading is associated with taller cloud towers and anvils. The taller clouds reach levels of enhanced wind speeds that act to spread and thin the anvil clouds, increasing areal coverage and decreasing cloud optical depth. The radiative effect of this transition is to create a positive radiative forcing (warming) at top-of-atmosphere. Furthermore we introduce the cloud optical depth (τ), cloud height (Z) forcing space and show that underestimation of radiative forcing is likely to occur in cases of non homogenous clouds. Specifically, the mean radiative forcing of towers and anvils in the same scene can be several times greater than simply calculating the forcing from the mean cloud optical depth in the scene. Limitations of the method are discussed, alternative sources of aerosol loading are tested and meteorological variance is restricted, but the trend of taller clouds, increased and thinner anvils associated with increased aerosol loading remains robust through all the different tests and perturbations.

In these challenging times, finding a way to sustain the created value becomes a must. The fierce competition, the risk of disruption, the rise of customer awareness and the scarcity of resources, all these are few of many drivers that push companies to invest in sustainability. This paper is an attempt to enrich the literature about this subject. It mainly explores how to use the AHP method, a well-known multicriteria decision making technique, to decide about the right actions to implement, in order to reach sustainability. The paper is a continuity of a previous work that introduced a new framework that explained how companies could sustain their business models through information systems (IS). This approach was applied on a telecom operator, as a case study, to explain well how companies could choose the right actions to implement, in order to reach sustainability.

Abstract. The shortwave (SW) radiation budget was computed on a 10 km × 10 km resolution above FORTH-CRETE AERONET station in Crete, Greece, for the 11-year period from 2000 to 2010. The area is representative of the Eastern Mediterranean region, where air pollution and diminishing water resources are exacerbated by high aerosol loads and climate change. The present study aims to quantify the aerosol direct effect and forcing on the local surface and atmospheric energy budget. A radiative transfer model was used, with climatological data from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), on board NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites. The instantaneous radiative fluxes were computed for satellite overpass times at the surface, within the atmosphere and at the top of atmosphere (TOA). Downward surface fluxes and aerosol input data were validated against ground measurements. Output fluxes reveal the direct radiative effects of dust events, with instantaneous values reaching up to −215, 139 and −46 Wm−2 at the surface (cooling), within the atmosphere (warming) and at TOA (cooling), respectively. Mean monthly values show a decreasing trend of the aerosol direct radiative effect, in agreement with a similar trend in AOT. The analysis of the contribution of anthropogenic and natural aerosol show major peaks of natural aerosol direct effect occurring mainly in spring, while a summer maximum is attributed to anthropogenic aerosol. During their peaks, anthropogenic aerosol forcing can reach values of −24 Wm−2 at the surface, 19 Wm−2 in the atmosphere and over −4 Wm−2 at TOA (monthly mean instantaneous values). The corresponding monthly peak values for natural aerosol are over −20 Wm−2, 12 Wm−2 and −9 Wm−2.

Abstract Clinical teachers are increasingly challenged to find the time to provide point of care education for learners. To meet this challenge, an interprofessional team from competing health care systems created and sustained Geriatric Fast Facts (GFF): easily accessible, concise 1-2 page topic summaries for clinical teachers to use (in lieu of the mini-lecture) with learners at the point of care. Designed by geriatrics educators in consultation with IT experts, we launched a mobile enabled website that is indexed and searchable by free text or topic, organ system, ACGME competency, disease, and the “underlying science” for the disease/illness. GFF topics are authored by subject matter experts with peer review by senior geriatricians. Brief quizzes test learners’ knowledge with score reports. Our 4-year results reveal that: 1) “Geriatric Fast Facts” appear in the top Google 10 listing; 2) Search engines account for 39% of site traffic; 3) 60% of unique users (N=29,000) are via direct link; 4) 19% via referral from another site. Our “bounce rate” (55%) is ideal as users quickly gain the information sought - affirmed by our session duration which averages < 2 minutes. Our Google Analytics results reflect steady growth and international reach: 73% of sessions are from the U.S., 5% from Canada, 22% international and growing! In summary with our population continuing to age and time for teaching being limited, GFFs are quick, accessible, evidence-based resources for point of care teaching.

Background In recent years, there has been an exponential growth of mobile health (mHealth)–related apps. This has occurred in a somewhat unsupervised manner. Therefore, having a set of criteria that could be used by all stakeholders to guide the development process and the assessment of the quality of the apps is of most importance. Objective The aim of this paper is to study the validity of the Mobile App Development and Assessment Guide (MAG), a guide recently created to help stakeholders develop and assess mobile health apps. Methods To conduct a validation process of the MAG, we used the Delphi method to reach a consensus among participating stakeholders. We identified 158 potential participants: 45 patients as potential end users, 41 health care professionals, and 72 developers. We sent participants an online survey and asked them to rate how important they considered each item in the guide to be on a scale from 0 to 10. Two rounds were enough to reach consensus. Results In the first round, almost one-third (n=42) of those invited participated, and half of those (n=24) also participated in the second round. Most items in the guide were found to be important to a quality mHealth-related app; a total of 48 criteria were established as important. “Privacy,” “security,” and “usability” were the categories that included most of the important criteria. Conclusions The data supports the validity of the MAG. In addition, the findings identified the criteria that stakeholders consider to be most important. The MAG will help advance the field by providing developers, health care professionals, and end users with a valid guide so that they can develop and identify mHealth-related apps that are of quality.

Polymeric maleimido–quaternary ammonium (QA) compounds have been shown to function as molecular tape measures when covalently tethered to external cysteine residues of a Shaker K+ channel (Blaustein R.O., P.A. Cole, C. Williams, and C. Miller. 2000. Nat. Struct. Biol. 7:309–311). For sufficiently long compounds, the cysteine–maleimide tethering reaction creates a high concentration, at the channel's pore, of a TEA-like moiety that irreversibly blocks current. This paper investigates a striking feature of the maleimide–cysteine tethering kinetics. Strong blockers—those that induce substantial levels (>80%) of irreversible inhibition of current—react with channel cysteines much more rapidly than weak blockers and, when delivered to channels with four cysteine targets, react with multiexponential kinetics. This behavior is shown to arise from the ability of a strong blocker to concentrate its maleimide end near a channel's cysteine target by exploiting the reversible pore-blocking affinity of its QA headgroup.

Because of fundamental changes in the competitive environment, the amount of resources and knowledge needed in research and development (R&D) activities has become overwhelming for a single organisation. Moreover, new technologies create lucrative new possibilities for new service development, which are out of reach for a single organisation. Thus, there is a strong need to perform R&D activities in networks. This study increases the understanding of R&D networks by presenting an empirically grounded process model of the formation of such networks. The model has three main elements: the initial conditions, the role of network webber and the sub-processes through which the formation progresses. The process model highlights the importance of the network webber both in triggering the formation process and in managing the process. Moreover, the model suggests a view of the process that is overlapping and iterative, i.e., the sub-processes of enabling the network, acquiring actors, assuring continuity, formal structuring, learning and developing commitment do not follow each other in a certain order.

Eastern goat's rue, or Galega orientalis (Galega orientalis Lam.) of the non-traditional species, is the most valuable and widespread in the production conditions of a perennial legume crop. Eastern goat's rue is characterized by high green mass productivity, reaching 50 t/ha or more. As of 2020, 16 eastern goat's rue varieties have been registered in the State Register of Breeding Achievements Approved for Use in Rus-sia. Some eastern goat's rue varieties have a limited adaptive potential and react with a significant de-crease in seed and feed productivity when cultivated in atypical conditions. To increase the efficiency of economic use and expand the area of crops of this crop, it is necessary to develop new varieties with new economically useful and distinctive features, high adaptive potential. Currently, the issue of identifying varieties is relevant. The creation of varieties with marker phenotypic characteristics significantly facili-tates the task of seed production and compliance with the rights of patent holders. The new variety eastern goat's rue West has a visually pronounced morphotypic characteristic — purple-pink (lilac) color of the flowers. The average yield of the green mass of the West variety for the first three years of use is 36.5 t/ha, while that of the Gale variety is 32.8 t/ha, or 11% less. Collection of dry matter, 6.33 and 5.73 t/ha, respectively. Under favorable conditions, the yield of green mass in the sum of two mowing from the grass stand of the third and older years of life can reach 65–70 t/ha or more, the yield of dry matter-up to 14 t/ha. The average yield of seeds of the West variety was: in the first year of use — 74 kg / ha, in the second-397 kg/ha, in the third-427 kg/ha, which, accordingly, is higher by 34–15–31% in relation to the Gale variety. In favorable years, the actual collection of seeds of the West variety is 597–612 kg/ha, the biological yield is up to 800 kg/ha or more.

The study adopted regional integration theory and employed Qualitative Document Analysis (QDA) in order to elaborate on the big-brother and sub-regional leader role of Nigeria in the region. The study found that loyalty to colonialism and the francophone country's long-existing monetary cooperation towards France was the strong blockade of the proposal as well as the member state was unable to reach-up to the merging criteria, which resulted in the shift and delays on the establishment of the common currency date. It was also discovered that on the efforts to embark on the process, two fast track approaches were being agreed upon towards the realization of the common currency. AbstractUndertaking an experience-sampling study via smartphones is complex. Scheduling and sending mobile notifications often requires the use of proprietary software that imposes limits on participants’ operating systems (whether iOS or Android) or the types of questions that can be asked via the application. We have developed an open-source platform—Samply—which overcomes these limitations. Researchers can access the entire interface via a browser, manage studies, schedule and send notifications linking to online surveys or experiments created in any Internet-based service or software, and monitor participants' responses—all without the coding skills usually needed to program a native mobile application. Participants can download the Samply Research mobile application for free from Google Play or the App Store, join a specific study, receive notifications and web links to surveys or experiments, and track their involvement. The mobile application leverages the power of the React Native JavaScript library, which allows it to be rendered in the native code of Android and iOS mobile operating systems. We describe Samply, provide a step-by-step example of conducting an experience-sampling study, and present the results of two validation studies. Study 1 demonstrates how we improved the website’s usability for researchers. Study 2 validates the mobile application’s data recording ability by analyzing a survey’s participation rate. The application’s possible limitations and how mobile device settings might affect its reliability are discussed.

Since the 1960s there has been a continued development and diversification of digital technologies used across societal sectors (Bijker, Hughes, Pinch, & Douglas, 2012), enabling applications not solely within business and commerce, but significantly within educational and social settings (such as those discussed by The Metiri Group, 2006, for example), supporting communication and learning (for example, shown by Richardson, 2012), providing opportunities to widen and deepen reach and interactions (as indicated, for example, by Kim, Hagashi, Carillo, Gonzales, Makany, Lee, & Gàrate, 2011). It can be argued that such developments have created many divisions and challenges too (Resta, & Laferrière, 2008); individuals as well as nations may not have the same access or facilities as others (ITU, 2015); and issues such as exploitation and exclusion are regularly highlighted (Dutta, Geiger, & Lanvin, 2015). This special issue is concerned with inclusive technologies and learning, related to social inclusion.

The paper deals with theoretical and practical aspects of the innovation process as well as its final results and impact on qualitative level of the supply in the market with food products. From this point of view, we consider an innovation process as an alternative approach how to reach competitive advantage. The paper also points at several possibilities how to manage innovation process in order to create a new product with certain features of competitiveness. There follows from the research that the innovation process is not only the question of new product development but it is also the question of technological approach, new markets entering as well as organization changes in the company.

Abstract Dementia interventions grounded in group participation in the cultural arts (e.g., poetry, storytelling, music, and dance) have been growing in reach in recent decades. Yet this growth has been stymied by a lack of empirical evidence to demonstrate measurable outcomes. In the current IRB-approved research study, the Alzheimer’s Poetry Project (APP), in partnership with 15 Wisconsin nursing homes, provided staff training in an innovative non-pharmacological intervention for people living with dementia. The goal of APP is to facilitate creative self-expression, social and intellectual stimulation, respectful acceptance, validation of personhood, and valued inclusion of people living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias through the performance and creation of poetry. APP’s proven track record at over 500 facilities in 34 states and six countries internationally, serving over 40,000 people worldwide, demonstrates APP’s ability to bring high-quality creative arts programming to people living with dementia. Through the implementation of APP in three groups of five nursing homes in Wisconsin, activities and care staff were trained to deliver the intervention over three-month periods. After training was completed, researchers evaluated and compared APP to non-arts programming in the same facilities. A novel dementia arts mapping technique was created to document observable impacts of interventions on social engagement, alertness, vocalization, vocabulary, affect, and self-expression. 35 interventions were documented, and variability in participant experiences reveal significantly greater impacts on personhood and creativity during the 11 APP interventions than during the 24 non-arts interventions. Implications for promoting dementia care programming grounded in group participatory arts will be discussed.

Abstract As more adults reach their later years, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) becomes a highly complicating factor with regards to overall health. For the purpose of this article, “COPD” is used as an umbrella term that includes emphysema, bronchitis, and, at times, asthma. It is progressive in nature. The main symptoms of COPD are usually readily apparent to the skilled observer: shortness of breath, decreased capacity for physical activity, presence of a chronic obstructive cough, loss of appetite with possible weight loss, and increased fatigue (Connell & Richman, 2009). Not surprisingly, this short list of symptoms alone can create havoc for the speech-language pathologist, because COPD can cause a multitude of problems, including voice, communication, and swallowing disorders.

Abstract This study opens a window into the mapping of the lexical structure of bilinguals as they reach intermediate-level L2 proficiency. A group of 32 Persian-speaking English learners participated in a translation recognition task, where they had to decide whether the sequentially presented English-Persian word pairs were translation equivalents. The Persian words in the experimental trials were not translation equivalents, but they either shared lexical or semantic features with the correct translations or shared phonological features with the preceding English words. For example, the Persian word /bɒːzuː/ in the word pair arm – /bɒːzuː/ was manipulated to create three categories of ‘no’ trials: (a) orthographically related to the translation equivalent (arm – /bɒːziː/ ‘game’), (b) semantically related to the translation equivalent (arm – /ʃɒːne/ ‘shoulder’), (c) phonologically related to the English word (arm – /ɒːrmɒːn/ ‘goal’). A significant interference effect was observed in response to the items in the first two categories, which indicates extensive utilization of both lexical and conceptual links in backward translation. However, the observed interference effect in the third category did not reach statistical significance, which calls into question the integrated activation of L1 and L2 prior to high level L2 proficiency. These results are discussed within the context of the Revised Hierarchical Model (Kroll & Stewart, 1994) and the Bilingual Interactive Activation Plus model (Dijkstra & Van Heuven, 2002).

This paper highlights an original role-play exercise designed to teach students about the principles of ethical decision making. The exercise intends to create hypothetical ethical dilemmas that managers may encounter in their jobs, and challenges the students to apply the principles of ethical decision making to reach a solution in each case. This exercise is ideal for use by instructors of introductory courses such as principles of management, introduction to business or graduate level business administration concepts, or any class session with a primary focus on ethical decision making. We present a description of the exercise and suggestions on how to debrief it. The exercise also provides students with an opportunity to ponder their ethical values and complexities associated with the manager’s position in a company.

Today's educational needs require tools with neither geographical nor temporal restrictions. These tools also have to help students to reach the knowledge and provide them with the skills that the labor market demands. To achieve this goal, the technical areas rely on the contribution that laboratory practices provide. However, traditional laboratory practices, carried out in person at the institution, are limited due to the requirements of both their exploitation and their provision. For this reason, educational institutions have opted for remote laboratories (RLs) as the educational tool to provide the benefits of experimentation in real environments, either as an accompaniment to face-to-face activity or as the only mean of experimentation in real environments. Although RLs provide exclusive benefits <<24/7 availability, integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ITCs), etc.>>, they also present limitations derived from the technology involved <<hardware and software>>; PILAR project << Platform Integration of Laboratories based on the Architecture of VISIR>> was conceived under this premise. PILAR proposes a federation of 5 Virtual Instrument Systems in Reality (VISIR) systems. VISIR is a RL for wiring and measuring electrical and electronics circuits in a simulated workbench. PILAR aims to create a grid of laboratories shared and accessed by all participants, expanding and empowering the existing systems to a new level of service and capacity.

Background: The presence of immunoglobulin E (IgE), which cross-reacts with allergen components, such as profilins, polcalcins, and cross-reacting carbohydrate determinants (CCD), creates a problem when selecting patients for allergen immunotherapy by using conventional methods. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of sensitization to profilins, polcalcins, and CCDs in patients with seasonal pollen allergic rhinitis. Methods: The study was performed on a group of 112 patients with seasonal pollen allergic rhinitis, ages 14 to 55 years, with sensitization to at least one seasonal allergen (IgE > 0.7 kUA/L). The presence of IgE sensitization to recombinant (r) Bet v 2, rPhl p 12, rBet v 4, rPhl p 7, and CCDs, in addition to rBet v 1, rPhl p 1, rPhl p 5, was evaluated by using a multiparameter immunoblot. Results: Among the studied patients, 64.3, 80.4, and 41.1% were sensitized to birch, timothy grass, and mugwort pollen, respectively. Sensitization to profilins rBet v 2/Phl p 12 was demonstrated in 28.6%, to polcalcins Bet v 4/Phl p 7 in 8.9%, and to CCDs in 25%. In 29.3%, serum IgE reactivity to any of the cross-reactive components could be demonstrated. Serum IgE reactivity to rBet v 2 was always accompanied by IgE reactivity to rPhl p 12, and IgE reactivity to rBet v 4 was always accompanied by IgE reactivity to rPhl p 7. Among the patients with pollinosis co-sensitized to at least two allergen sources according to extract-based diagnosis, possible false-positive results due to sensitization to cross-reactive components were detected in 17.9%. Conclusion: Evaluation of sensitization to cross-reacting components may be useful in evaluation of patients with pollen allergy who are being assessed for allergen immunotherapy to optimize the constitution of their immunotherapy vaccines.

This article explores the issues pertaining to perception of reality through cinematography, including modern film editing. Analysis is conducted on modern surrealistic portraying of the world in movies, highlighting the importance of created reality in movies and its perception by the viewers. The article presents brief analysis of the works of such renowned philosophers as André Bazin, Henri Bergson, Jean Baudrillard, Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Walter Benjamin. Modern cinematography in form of “movie universes” and “movie franchises” is used as an example. This research covers modern films, which reflect popular demand for maximal realism as an opportunity to identify and reach maximal immersion into story on the screen. Cinematography began be showing real events as chronicles, later undergoing changes, and with development of technology becomes more distant from portrayal of specific reality and people. In the 1980s the conceptual idea changes, and cinematography becomes more realistic. However, in the early XXI century, while chasing realism modern movies became hyper-realistic, causing gradual degradation of sense of reality of the picture.

Background Mobile health apps are promising vehicles for delivering scalable health behavior change interventions to populations that are otherwise difficult to reach and engage, such as young adults with psychiatric conditions. To improve uptake and sustain consumer engagement, mobile health interventions need to be responsive to individuals’ needs and preferences, which may change over time. We previously created an ecological daily needs assessment to capture microprocesses influencing user needs and preferences for mobile health treatment adaptation. Objective The objective of our study was to test the utility of a needs assessment anchored within a mobile app to capture individualized, contextually relevant user needs and preferences within the framework of a weight management mobile health app. Methods Participants with an iOS device could download the study app via the study website or links from social media. In this fully remote study, we screened, obtained informed consent from, and enrolled participants through the mobile app. The mobile health framework included daily health goal setting and self-monitoring, with up to 6 daily prompts to determine in-the-moment needs and preferences for mobile health–assisted health behavior change. Results A total of 24 participants downloaded the app and provided e-consent (22 female; 2 male), with 23 participants responding to at least one prompt over 2 weeks. The mean length of engagement was 5.6 (SD 4.7) days, with a mean of 2.8 (1.1) responses per day. We observed individually dynamic needs and preferences, illustrating daily variability within and between individuals. Qualitative feedback indicated preferences for self-adapting features, simplified self-monitoring, and the ability to personalize app-generated message timing and content. Conclusions The technique provided an individually dynamic and contextually relevant alternative and complement to traditional needs assessment for assessing individually dynamic user needs and preferences during treatment development or adaptation. The results of this utility study suggest the importance of personalization and learning algorithms for sustaining app engagement in young adults with psychiatric conditions. Further study in broader user populations is needed.
