Der volle Inhalt der QuelleFloating wind turbines allow the use of the abundant wind resource in ocean area and are considered as a promising solution of renewable energy. However, due to the additional dynamics (especially the platform pitch motion) introduced by the floating platform, the control of a floating wind turbine must take such pitch motion into consideration to stabilize the system meanwhile optimizing the power output. This work is dedicated to the nonlinear control of floating wind turbines in region III, this class of controllers requiring reduced knowledge of system modeling and parameter. The control objectives are to maintain the power output at its rated value, to reduce the platform pitch motion and to limit the fatigue load. Firstly, a simplified adaptive super-twisting is proposed. Then, by using collective blade pitch control, this algorithm and other adaptive high order sliding model algorithms are applied on a nonlinear floating wind turbine model. Secondly, a permanent magnet synchronous generator is supposed to be installed in the floating wind turbine. Both collective blade pitch control and generator torque control based on adaptive high-order sliding mode control are used to achieve the control objectives. Thirdly, individual blade pitch control combined with collective blade pitch control is employed. Such algorithm further reduces the fatigue load of blades. Finally, the proposed simplified adaptive super-twisting algorithm is validated on an experimental floating wind turbine set-up (with a spar-buoy platform) in a wave tank, and the control performances are evaluated versus linear control approaches such as gain-scheduled PI and linear–quadratic regulators

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleWind energy is a clean and renewable source of energy that remains one of the solutions to cut carbon emissions and curb global warming in the field of power generation. The present thesis objective is the optimisation of wind energy production by the all eviation of blade load fluctuations induced by shear and turbulence in the atmospheric boundary layer. These fluctuations increase the blade fatigue and reduce the life duration of the rotors. This load fluctuation all eviation is assessed with an experimental approach and at a laboratory scale. Two not conventional flow control strategies, plasma actuators and fluidic jets, are implemented and tested in the controlled environment of a wind-tunnel to perform a circulation control by acting in the vicinity of the rounded trailing-edge of the blade in order to modify its lift force. In the scope of the SMARTEOLE project, both plasma and fluidic strategies are, as a first step, tested in parallel on a 2D-airfoil. For this thesis, plasma actuators are implemented over the airfoil trailing-edge to increase ordecrease the lift force. Airfoil performances are indeed modified in the linear part of the lift curve. For efficiency and reliability reasons, it is chosen to pursue the work towards the rotational configuration with the fluidic strategy. Blades are then manufactured and tested first in a translational configuration to evaluate the potentialof the fluidic actuation without rotational effects. Then, blades are mounted in the wind turbine bench of the laboratory. The effects of the actuation are demonstrated through surface pressure and flapwise bending moment measurements. Actuation shows important fatigue reduction motivating the pursue of the investigations on active flow control applied to wind turbine blades

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThere is a conviction in the engineer science field which led in thinking that any divergence between numerical simulation and experimental results is necessarily due to an imperfect modelisation of the converter or to an epiphenomenon manifestation ordinarily neglected. It's the situation for example of the stepping motor in the instable operation zone where the dynamics isn't periodic anymore. After having built and simulated a generic model validated by experimental observations, we demonstrate that these aperiodical behaviours are intrinsic properties of the converter. To do so, we have had to design special tools adapted to the specific chaotic characteristics of that electromechanical converter. We have built an automatic control and acquisition tool which assure a low noise level and a maximum of reproducibility of the experimental results. We have also written some simulation software in object C language because solutions obtained with generalist numerical tools on systems near the stability limits are usually not satisfying. With both theoretical and experimental approaches, we propose a systematic study of the dynamics exhibited by the step by step motor. That accurate knowledge of the motor behaviour allow us, at last, to propose a simple and economical control strategy without any position detector, in order to obtain a periodic motor behaviour in zones where it naturally isn't. This allows us to extend, at low cost, the useful range, in the engineer meaning, of this converter

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIn order to understand the etiology of falls in the elderly, studies in the field of biomechanics have mainly focused on assessing balance abilities, relying on the analysis of linear body movements. However, maintaining balance during our various motor tasks requires both appropriate control of linear movements and angular (rotational) movements of body segments. Thus, this doctoral work aims to identify and understand changes in the control of angular body movements in old adults through the study of whole-body angular momentum, which is recognized as a mechanical parameter highly controlled by the central nervous system to maintain balance. Our studies reveal that during the volitional stepping task, old adults exhibit an alteration in the control of the whole-body angular momentum. Overall, our results show that old adults have a higher range of whole-body angular momentum than their younger counterparts – particularly in the sagittal plane – and this is exacerbated with the increase in progression velocity. Furthermore, our results highlight that this age-related changes in the control of whole-body angular momentum is directly ascribed to changes in segmental angular momenta, with old adults having higher trunk and lower limb angular momenta than young adults. Finally, we observed a relationship between the range of whole-body angular momentum during the stepping task and measurements of muscle strength and balance in young and old adults. These results suggest that age-related changes in the control of whole-body angular momentum, which may impose greater challenge for balance control and potentially a greater risk of fallingduring the volitional stepping task in old adults, can be partially attributed to the decline in lower limb muscle strength and the impairment of other systems involved in balance control with aging. Together, our results contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying impaired balance control in old adults and provide a basis for future studies to reduce the incidence of falls in this population

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe precise role of the basal ganglia in the control of motor actions is still under debate. We designed a well-controlled start-stop running paradigm for mice, that enabled to quantify the kinematic parameters associated with motor execution. Extracellular recordings demonstrated that our task massively recruited 8 different functional striatal classes that modulated their activity at distinct phases of the sequential action and immobility. The “what” group comprised Beginning and End neurons which were specifically tuned at the beginning or at the end of the motor sequence, respectively. The “how” group was the most representative and comprised Running, Onset and Offset cells which, cooperatively represented the entire execution of the motor sequence and were well correlated with speed performance. Strikingly, we also reported the presence of the Immobility cells that specifically fired during immobility periods. Comparison of performances during good trials versus spontaneous runs showed that the fraction of the different striatal classes remained stable. However, the fraction of cells with significant sequence-related modulation was prominently decreased in spontaneous compared to good trial runs, and the activity of the Running cells was less correlated with animal's running speed and duration. Our data are consistent with a basal ganglia model where striatal activity is coordinately organized in a temporally precise manner to initiate, maintain and terminate motor sequences. Ongoing experiments with optogenetics techniques (developed during this thesis) will confirm inferred causal relationships of striatal activity to specific motor implementations

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleSpace missions are arousing renewed interest in these recent years. However, when coming to the entryinto the atmosphere, major issues are still to be considered. To answer this problem, a new Entry DescentLanding technique is proposed: plasma actuation to increase the drag force over the vehicle body and thus, decrease its speed. In this thesis, a plasma actuator is tested in three supersonic rarefied flows (N1(M2-8Pa), N2(M4-8Pa) and N3(M4-71Pa)) and a hypersonic one (M20-0.062Pa), all generated by the wind tunnelMARHy.The plasma actuator induces flow modifications over the studied model, such as a change in the shock waveshape and an increase in the shock wave angle. In order to better understand the phenomena governingthese modifications, Pitot pressure, surface and gas temperature, electron data and spectroscopicmeasurements were analyzed. The results shown that two types of effects are involved: thermal (bulk andsurface) and ionization. Moreover, it was demonstrated that these effects had not the same importancedepending on the flow conditions. The plasma actuator was also modified in order to improve it. In particular, two types of generators wereused to biase the cathode: DC and pulsed. Finally, it was shown that, for a discharge power of 80 W, a 13%increase in the drag force could be expected and thus, a decrease in the heat load over the model body ofmore than 25%. Therefore, plasma actuators seem to be promising applications for space missions andatmospheric entries
Hautier, Mathieu. „Analyse des réparations des matériaux composites : mise en œuvre d'un procédé pas infiltration et étude du comportement mécanique“. Toulouse 3, 2010. http://thesesups.ups-tlse.fr/1128/.
Der volle Inhalt der Quelle"Conventional" or certified repair procedures for composite structures (i. E. Patches) are usually time-consuming, performed by highly qualified staff and seem immoderate regarding the most common damage found in aeronautics due to low energy impact. A cost-effective and simple repair method based on liquid resin infiltration in the induced crack net is proposed. An analytical model based on damage geometry and physical chemistry properties, is developed to verify the resin infiltration capabilities. An experimental protocol has been developed to identify those properties with conditions similar to the infiltration process (roughness, temperature,. . . ). An experimental set up has been manufactured and different configurations (injection pressure level, infiltration resin toughness. . . ) are studied. Non destructive testing, like ultrasonic inspection, combined to micrographic inspection show good experimental infiltration capabilities. To initiate the validation procedure of this repair, the second part of this work deals with the mechanical behaviour and strength of the repair with experimental tests campaign. Numerical models are used for analysis and understanding. Two different scales are considered at interface (material) and structural level. Fracture Mechanics tests are performed with classical tests such as DCB or ENF, and a new original one, Tensile Flexure test on Notched Specimen (TFNS test), to characterize and identify the repaired interface properties. For their severity regarding composite materials behaviour, both CAI and re-indentation (in-plane and out-of-plane solicitation representative of real loading conditions) were performed on repaired samples. Those complementary tests show that this infiltration repair method restores mechanical properties when proper toughened resins are used

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe growing demands for electrical energy, especially renewable, is boosting the development of wind turbines equipped with longer composite blades. To reduce the maintenance cost of such huge composite parts, the structural health monitoring (SHM) is an approach to anticipate and/or follow the structural behaviour along time. To do so, a proper instrumentation is necessary and has to be as less intrusive as possible. To this end, the development of carbon nanotube- epoxy Quantum Resistive Sensor (QRS) is presented. QRS can be as well glued on the surface or embedded in the core of the composite structure during the stacking sequence. During manufacturing, both the temperature and resin crosslinking can be detected with the change in the QRS electrical characteristics. Once the structural part is made, the effect of the external parameters (strain rate, temperature, humidity, Poisson ratio…) on the electrical characteristics of QRS has been studied. During the composite life, the QRS electrical behaviour has also demonstrate its capability to detect the initiation and propagation of damage until final failure. A non-intrusive monitoring with QRS of the structure life cycle, from manufacturing until final breakage is therefore possible

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis work studies the laminar-turbulent transition and the pitch control effects on the performances of a vertical axis tidal turbine (SHIVA) developed at the French naval academy research institute. Firstly, experimental and numerical results are compared to study the transitional flow around a hydrofoil. The experiments were carried out in the hydrodynamic tunnel of the French naval academy research institute and the laminar-turbulent transition was triggered by a laminar separation bubble mechanism. Comparisons are based on the local analysis of pressure data and velocity profiles in the vicinity of the laminar separation bubble. Lift, drag and moment coefficients measured on a fixed hydrofoil and on a hydrofoil undergoing a pitching movement are also used for comparison. 2D RANS calculations carried out with or without a transition modal (ɣ — Reo), 3D RANS calculations and 2.5D LES calculations were run so as to assess the accuracy of each type of simulation. This study shows that the ‘y Reo transition modal clearly improves the accuracy of the results compared to a fully turbulent turbulence model (k— w SST) when considering a transitional flow. The influence of the laminar-turbulent transition on the performance of the SHIVA turbine is then studied. Results of 2D calculations run with and without transition model are compared. The use of the transition modal is relevant at the tip speed ratio value ʎ = 2 for which the blades undergo dynamic stall. The transition modal leads to a better prediction of the leading edge vortex development and then allows a better prediction of the dynamic stall. The use of the transition model at higher ʎ values is less relevant since the transition modal appears to predict a drag too low. Finally, the effect of the pitch control on the SHIVA turbine performance is .studied at ʎ = 3, for which the power coefficient is the highest. Advanced pitching laws are developed to modify the blades’ angle of attack independently on the upstream and downstream halves of the turbine. The best pitching law tested in this study leads to an improvement of the power coefficient by 34% and smooths the torque distribution

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe needs in fossil energy during the industrial area lead to the intensive exploitation of the resources of the Nord/Pas-de-Calais carboniferous basin (France). The extraction of these materials induces disorders of the geological structures which introduce depressions in surface. If the greatest part of the subsidence occurs during the extraction, a small part persists during a more or less long period after the end of the exploitations corresponding to the residual subsidence. Charbonnages de France is in charge of the monitoring of this phenomenon in the Nord/Pas-de-Calais area since December 21, 1990, completion date of mining work. Using high precision levellings, CdF is rapidly confronted with the limitations of this method (cost, duration…). In this context, we used the radar interferometric methods in order to propose an efficient tool to characterize and quantify the soil movements, and determine the part of the residual subsidence with respect to others phenomena. The results provided by these methods agree with the known orders of magnitude of displacements and bring new information on the shape and the extent of the mining origins subsidence areas. The description of other phenomena which can involve movements of the same order of magnitude was also carried out and allowed a better account in the study of surface motion in the Nord/Pas-de-Calais basin

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe aim of this thesis is to investigate the influence of emotions on the planning and execution of whole body voluntary movement. The effect of emotions was test thanks to the motivational direction hypothesis which supposed that 1) pleasant stimuli should facilitate approach and perturb avoidance behaviors. 2) Unpleasant stimuli should facilitate avoidance and perturb approach behaviors. Two experimental protocols have been chosen to pursue the investigation: Forward and backward gait initiation (study 1) and lateral elevation of the leg (studies 2-4). The emotions were manipulated by exposing the subjects to pictures of the International Affective Pictures System (inducing pleasant and unpleasant emotions, study 1) and by placing the subjects at the edge of an elevated platform (inducing fear of falling). Movements were performed on force platform (studies 1-3). Kinematic parameters of leg movement were recorded by the system of motion capture VICON (studies 2 and 3). Psychological parameters (valence and arousal dimensions of emotions fear of falling) were assessed by questionnaires. Results of the first study showed that pleasant pictures facilitated approach behaviors (as observed in the reactivity) and perturbed avoidance behaviors (as observed in the velocity of centre of mass during anticipatory postural adjustment (APA) prior to the execution of a backward step), compared to unpleasant or neutral pictures. However, these pleasant pictures also perturbed approach behaviors (as observed in the peak of centre of mass velocity during the execution of a forward step). Results of the second study showed that approach behaviors toward the postural threat (i.e, the void) were perturbed (as observed in the amplitude and duration of APA), compared to avoidance behaviors. The third study focused on the inter-individual differences in the relation between postural threat and organization of movement. Results revealed that balance confidence of the participants dealing with increased postural threat. In other terms, participants reported a high confidence in their own balance control were least perturbed than those reported a low balance confidence and vice versa. Finally, in the fourth study we tried to explain these inter-individual differences. The self-esteem seems to explain these differences. In conclusion, the results of this thesis seem to partially confirm the hypothesis of motivational direction. Put together, the results help improve our general understanding of the influence of emotions on the planning and execution of voluntary movements. Keywords: Anticipatory Postural Adjustments, Approach-Avoidance, Emotions, Motivational Direction Hypothesis, Motor Control

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleWith key applications in marine renewable energy. the vertical axis water turbine can use current or tidal energy in an eco-friendly manner. However, it is difficult to reconcile optimal performance of hydrokinetic turbines and compliance wilh the aquatic environment as the main drawback of the turbines is the formation of non-linear flow structures caused by the unsteady movement of the blades. Eddies in the flow are advected and can interact with other blades, which leads to a reduction in power output. To limit this phenomenon, the turbines operate at high speeds, which are likely to reduce the shaft power. High speeds of rotational so forbid the passage of aquatic animais, and are the cause of a suction effect on the sediments. The objective of this thesis work is twofold. First, it aims to develop a blade pitch control to get the flow adjusted around the blade profile at any given flow configuration by incorporatin.g the profile's motion with respect to incident flow. Such a system intends to achieve the objective of operating at reduced speeds without vortical releases, which should allow achieving a high torque without causing damage to the environment. This thesis work is mainly carried out in three phases. ln the first phase, the irrotational flow over an arbitrary profile is formulated using conforma] mapping. Prospective potential flow application on the basis of Couchet theory (1976) is involved in the development of a control law that decides the blade pitching in a constant circulation framework. In the second phase, a numerical validation of the developed analytical work is presented using CFD to examine how the theoretical fomulation can be effectively applied to Darricus turbines. In the final phase, two prototypes are developed, one is classical Darrieus turbine with fixed blades, and other is the turbine with pitching blades for experimental measurements of performance as well as flow fields(by PIV) in order to validate the computational results

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIn aeronautic industry, the efficiency of acoustic liners in bypass and inter-stage regions of the turbofan engine is reached the limit, especially at the Blade Passage Frequencies (BPF), due to the interaction between the fan blades and the struts. Then, pure tones are produced in the noise spectrum for all flight phases, in addition of acoustic liners, Herschel-Quincke (HQ) tubes provide an alternative to improve the attenuation at the BPF. These tubes are placed in the periphery of the main duct and produce phase differences between acoustic waves in the main duct and in the HO tubes in order to attenuate the transmitted acoustic power. A mixed numerical-analytical model was developed for the fast computation of the scattering matrix of a ring of HO tubes integrated in a finite length line wall circular duct. This technic takes into account the exact shape of HO tube and the possibility of a non uniform acoustic velocity at the interfaces between the main duct and the HO tube. This model also allows a study of HQ tube parameters with a time swing compared to a standard element method. Finally, the mixed model has no frequency limit
