What Crumpling a Polychronic Materials map can reveal… is a reflection on the Research Through Design Conference that was held at Microsoft Research in Cambridge UK in 2015. It focuses on the issues involved in offering a design methodology as a collaborative experience within the environs of a research through design conference. In considering the use of an interactive research exercise, such as crumpling maps of materials and time to communicate tacit knowledge and the process of designing, this reflection explores some of the constraints involved both in communicating in conferences and the process of research through design itself.

The article analyzes the conference held online by the German company VERBI Software GmbH - a developer of the well-known MAXQDA software designed for computerized content analysis of texts. Over the past decade Russian undergraduate and graduate students have been actively using this program in their research work as evidenced by a number of publications including in the "Istoricheskaya Informatika" journal. The author focuses on the dynamics of topics of the annual 2019-2021 conferences and characterizes the latest online conference. The author draws attention to the fact that the online status of the conference resulted in a sharp increase in the number of participants in comparison with previous traditional conferences. The novelty of this study is the fact that the author compares the reports of three conferences focusing on the range of methodological and methodical issues of computerized text analysis, constant update of research tools, new trends in the provision of educational materials to program users including open access to Maxqda Press publications. The article provides useful links to conference materials posted both on the developer's website and on YouTube. The author pays attention to those tools (platforms for online conferences) which are used by software developers to attract the maximum number of participants: free conference registration, user-friendly interface and international aware work (9 languages).

BACKGROUND: The coronavirus disease-19 pandemic has created changes in the way medicine is practiced. The move to virtual conferencing to avoid mass gatherings is a significant change to how health care professionals meet, discuss current trends, and share research. METHODS: Data from exit polls conducted after annual wound care symposiums were reviewed. Physicians, nurses, podiatrists, and other health care professionals attended. Respondents were asked to comment and reflect on their experiences of attending a virtual conference. RESULTS: Over 60% of all (N = 283) respondents stated the virtual conference was better than or on par with a live event. Many respondents had attended this live event in person in previous years. Of all respondents, 83% stated that they planned to access conference materials for the 30 days they remained posted after the event. More than 50% of respondents stated they favored the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues via the instant messaging feature offered by the conference. Approximately 80% of respondents stated that they would like to attend this and other conferences virtually in the future. CONCLUSIONS: The shift from in-person to virtual conferences has the potential to remain a significant method of attending health care conferences. Conference organizers are encouraged to consider how they can implement virtual components, including postconference access to materials, to enhance the conference experience. Additional work needs to be done to understand the impact of the virtual format on knowledge retention.

We have developed a system that supports presentations in meetings and conferences. Using computers and a network such as an intranet, it enables users to share conference materials effectively, and manages and delivers them easily. If it is used in conjunction with a videoconferencing system, users can hold a teleconference and participate in presentations from various remote sites. From the viewpoint of information transmission, the requirements for a presentation in a teleconference are similar to those for a remote classroom or lecture. We believe that this conference support system is suitable not only for conferences but also for education and telehealth.

Administering conferences remains a common health education strategy especially for those functioning in leadership and administrative positions. To date, very little has been written about these events which have the potential to impact large intended audiences when successfully implemented. This paper addresses several important administrative practices that can help ensure a successful conference. These practices include but are not limited to using a health education planning model, organizing and holding committee planning meetings, preparing a budget, visiting potential conference sites, negotiating contracts for hotel and meeting facilities, corresponding with conference participants, and preparing conference materials.

The conference reports were divided into two areas: “Technical means of medical diagnostics” and “Methods of using technical means of medical diagnostics”, although some reports did not fully comply with the aforementioned topics. The conference organizers consciously took such a step so as not to split the meetings into a large number of sections. The most interesting and informative reports were made on the section “Technical means”. For novice researchers and graduate students of Russian universities, special conditions were created that allowed them to participate in the conference with their own reports. Aim: To analyze whether instructions for authors of biomedical conference abstracts mention guidelines for writing randomized controlled trial and systematic review abstracts and to evaluate reasons for their absence from instructions. Materials & methods: We analyzed instructions for authors of biomedical conferences advertized in 2019 and assessed whether they mentioned Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Abstracts and Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials for Abstracts guidelines. We surveyed contact persons from abstract/publication committees of selected conferences to analyze why relevant guidelines were missing. Results: Instructions for abstracts were available for 819 conferences. Only two (0.2%) had reporting instructions for randomized controlled trial/systematic review authors. Almost half of the contacted conference organizers whose response we received were not aware of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Abstracts and Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials for Abstracts guidelines. Conclusion: Conference organizers do not require and are not familiar enough with reporting guidelines.
