This study presents a measure of work motivation designed to assess the motivational concepts of the meta-theory of motivation. These concepts include intrinsic process motivation, goal internalization motivation, instrumental motivation, external self-concept motivation, and internal self-concept motivation. Following a process of statement development and identification, six statements for each concept were presented to a sample of working professionals ( N = 330) via a paper-and-pencil questionnaire. Parallel analysis supported a 5-factor solution, with a varimax rotation identifying 5 factors accounting for 48.9% of total variance. All 5 scales had Cronbach alpha coefficients above .70. Limitations of the newly proposed questionnaire and suggestions for its further development and use are discussed.

Conclusions: The variety of motivational approaches available to the orofacial myologist and speech pathologist is multifaceted. Motivational concepts are modified by clinical experiences and the continuing education that follows initial formal education. Since motivation is a constantly changing phenomenon, the approaches to motivation must also undergo change or risk stagnation and lose effectiveness. It is my hope that the concepts presented in this article will help the clinician develop and maintain the high level of patient motivation needed to effect and maintain successful behavior change.

Scholars have believed that motivation crowding out will occur when performance-based personnel management is practiced in the public sector. However, drawing on a more sophisticated typology of human motivation, this study demonstrates that the provision of extrinsic rewards can motivate, rather than demotivate, public employees even if public employees have strong public service motivation. Analyzing the data from the Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (USA), this study found that the practice of employee performance management increases work effort and job satisfaction, and that such effects were mediated mainly by the hybrid motivational mechanisms (i.e., via enhanced self-concepts and perceived fairness), rather than by increasing sheer extrinsic motivation. This implies that the practice of employee performance management can be effective in motivating public employees.

The article analyzes one of the main problems of physical rehabilitation of children with psychomotor disorders – the problem of motivation in corrective motor activity. This determined the aim – to determine the main directions of the motivational sphere formation in the process of correctional play activity of children with psychomotor disorders. The following research methods were used: the method of analysis, which made it possible to identify the main characteristics and types of motivational support of children for various types of activity; the method of pedagogical observations and the method of synthesis revealed the powerful method of motivating – theatricalization of the correctional process using physical education. The research results were expressed in the definition of the concepts: motive, motivational field, motivational impulse, which are the components of the concept of motivation, the variety of which is defined in four types. There were made following conclusions: The motivation of corrective motor-play activity is based on the unconscious influences of the unconscious, caused by the external use by the teacher of the corresponding children's fairy-tale archetypes and the emotional experiences, caused by them. One of the main methods of increasing motivation is the use of the possibilities of pedagogical "drama" in the form of a method of dosed dramatization of the motor-game plot of a remedial lesson, which should be considered as a physical culture fairy tale. For the implementation of effective dramatic motivation, it is necessary to provide points of dramatization of different influence strength.

The main purpose of this workshop is to focus upon a complementary approach to the study of, and the investigation into, concepts related to Geometry- Space Strand. It ought to benefit educators especially those who prepare teachers for the primary/elementary schools. Participants in this workshop will initially learn the skills needed in Pop-Up Engineering to produce ‘hole’ 3- D paper models which illustrate some particular geometric concepts. The process of the construction of these models allows for building imagery, testing predictions, arousing and satisfying curiosity, connecting to Geometric concepts and most of all motivating and holding interest. It is envisaged that this approach to the teaching and learning of geometric concepts will provide grounds for discussion, enrichment, exploration, clarification of and ownership of ideas, and cross curriculum integration. It has the potential to reduce the apparent difficulty students experience with the study of geometric concepts.

Recent research supports the benefit of students’ construction of relevance through writing about the connection of content to their life. However, most such research defines relevance narrowly as utility value – perceived instrumentality of the content to the student’s career goals. Furthermore, the scope of phenomenological and conceptual dimensions that characterizes students’ perceptions of relevance remains largely unexplored in the literature. Rather, scholars have equated relevance with specific constructs such as utility, value or interest, which in turn has yielded a narrow conceptualization of relevance, usually constrained to a single construct, most commonly, utility. Whereas prior research certainly provides important insights into some of the features of relevance, it falls short of portraying the full scope of meanings that perceived relevance might take. To address this gap in the literature, this mixed-methods dissertation study explored the conceptual and phenomenological landscape of perceived relevance by employing a broad multidimensional conception of relevance to examine (a) the dimensional variability of students’ relevance constructions; and (b) the individual characteristics and the motivational and identity processes underlying differences in their constructions of relevance. The context of this study was an Institute of Educational Science (IES)-funded semester-long multi-modal intervention project that aimed to promote learning, motivation and achievement in an undergraduate introductory biology course. One module within the intervention involved students’ engagement in four relevance writing assignments, each focusing on a central biology concept in the course. The following dissertation employed data collected as part of this intervention project. This study involved coding and analyzing students’ relevance writing about two biology concepts—evolution (n = 50) and organismic diversity (n = 38)—with the purpose of characterizing dimensions underlying undergraduate students’ relevance constructions of central biology concepts and comparing these constructions across the two different biology concepts. Exploratory qualitative analysis procedures were used in the first phase of this investigation to develop an initial coding framework via intensive content analyses of students’ relevance writing products on evolution. A second phase of qualitative content analyses of students’ relevance writing about organismic diversity led to further development of the coding framework and comparative analyses of written products across the two concepts. Findings supported the dimensional variability of relevance constructions including the self-aspect connected to the content, the kind of connection made, and the type of perceived value, with some notable differences between the two biology concepts. Finally, the findings suggested that the meaningful connection engendered by the relevance construction experience originates primarily in the experience of understanding one’s self within the relation—understanding the self in relation to the relevant content; and that understanding some content in relation to a component of one’s identity may be secondary to the disclosure of the self. This dissertation explored the ways in which the relevance construction experience is a vital, dynamic process of identity formation. It is the findings from these intensive analyses that are reported in detail in this dissertation along with an in-depth discussion of the theoretical, methodological, and practical implications of this content-specific, multidimensional, identity-based conception of relevance.

Purpose: This thesis uses a case study approach. The purpose is to conduct a critical review of the potentiality of intrapreneurship/corporate entrepreneurship to create an attractive workplace that 1) draws Generation Y as potential employees, and 2) retains them by satisfying their demands, unlocking their full potential through motivation.

Background: It is now time for Generation Y to enter the workforce and their values and expectations on the workplace is different from the generations before them. This causes difficulties for organisations to attract and retain Generation Y but it is necessary in order to become a competitive performer in the future. In order to attract and retain Generation Y companies need to motivate their employees, foster and encourage creativity, and create an exciting work environment. This can be done through corporate entrepreneurship/ intrapreneurship and it is therefore interesting to see how Generation Y responds to this concept as well as if it contributes in creating an attractive workplace.

Method: The authors made use of a mixed method concurrent triangulation strategy within an explorative sequential design. Where qualitative data was gathered through an explorative pre-study and then through case studies with two companies, simultaneously quantitative data was collected through surveys and the study ended with a qualitative confirmatory study where the results of the analysis was tested against a third company.

Conclusion: The result of the study indicated that the companies investigated all had a high level of corporate entrepreneurship, it was also confirmed that Generation Y are suited to become intrapreneurs and that they would feel attracted and more likely to retain in an organisation that promotes intrapreneurship. It was furthermore concluded that corporate entrepreneurship contributes in creating an attractive workplace also for non-intrapreneurs.

Annotation:
This study links ethical leadership theory to the implementation of improved leadership practices and examines whether ethical leadership characteristics actually exist, particularly in highly operational environments. The study analyses how ethical leadership can be embedded by process, by applied leadership (role modelling), and by changing culture and climate. The conclusion reveals that all three approaches are needed for an implementation and depend on middle managers, otherwise no organisational transformation is possible. The research design of this qualitative study analyses data from 100 in-depth interviews using inductive categorisation, aiming to retrieve deep, rich and unprompted data from a highly developed and advanced production facility. The ethical leadership characteristics, and evidence specific influences on leadership behaviour, revealing 14 perceived leadership issues resulting in a leadership climate which negatively influences motivation, performance, and corporate culture. These issues were found to be responsible for deteriorating work climate, motivation, morale, and team spirit. Particularly favouritism, inequalities, shouting, blaming, internal competition and unclear strategies ruin motivation, employee health, and co-operation. Concerning the implementation of a better suited leadership culture, a research framework model is developed, integrating transformational change and leadership. Findings document that the influence of middle managers acting as role models seems to be greater than research suggests. Key findings also show that individual leadership development without changing the corporate realities is not sufficient to implement ethical strategies. Neglecting to actively control the leadership climate can have devastating effects even for very successful operations. Considering the pressure of goal attainment in highly operational areas, an absence of unethical behaviour can already be seen as a success for leaders. Finally, a change process sequence for shaping leadership climate was identified. These research results are highly relevant for organisations and leaders wishing to be engaged in improving their leadership quality.

The main purpose of the study was to compare the effectiveness of 5E learning cycle model based instruction and traditionally designed chemistry instruction on 10th grade students&rsquo
understanding of state of matter and solubility concepts and attitudes towards chemistry as a school subject
and students&rsquo
perceived motivation and perceived use of learning strategies. In this study, 119 tenth grade students from chemistry courses instructed by same teacher from Atatü
rk Anatolian High School took part. The study was conducted during 2007-2008 spring semester. This study included two groups which were randomly assigned as experimental and control groups. Control group students were taught by traditionally designed chemistry instruction, while the experimental group students were instructed by 5E learning cycle model based instruction. In the experimental group, students were taught with respect to the sequence of 5E learning cycle model which are engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration, and evaluation through the use of activities such as demonstrations, video animations, laboratory ectivities, and discussions. In the control group, traditionally designed chemistry instruction was implemented through teacher explanations and use of textbook. State of Matter and Solubility Concepts Test (SMSCT), Attitude Scale toward Chemistry (ASTC), and Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) were administered to both groups as a pre-test and post-test to assess the students understanding of state of matter and solubility concepts, students&rsquo
attitudes toward chemistry, students&rsquo
perceived motivations and students perceived use of learning strategies, respectively. Science Process Skills Test was given at the beginning of the study to determine students&rsquo
science process skills. The hypotheses were tested by using multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVAs). The results showed that instruction based on 5E learning cycle model caused significantly better acquisition of the scientific conceptions related to state of matter and solubility concepts than traditionally designed chemistry instruction. In addition, instruction based on 5E learning cycle model improved students&rsquo
attitudes as a school subject, intrinsic goal orientation, extrinsic goal orientation, task value, elaboration strategy use, organization strategy use. A Science process skill was determined as a strong predictor in understanding the concepts related state of matter and solubility.

AbstractWhen focusing on business models in the context of Industry 4.0 transformation, it is quite obvious that such models will need to adopt new businesses trends, such as mass customization, platform-based businesses, networking manufacturing or creativity-based businesses, respectively. This chapter aims to analyse implementation success factors of Industry 4.0 especially from business models perspective, and also to address some features of human-centred manufacturing in terms of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The motivation of this research is awareness of the importance that just a combination of the selected decisive success factors can significantly help businesses to become more competitive and improving their performance.

Several studies have explored the importance and benefits of teaching the history of mathematics as part of regular math classes. Some of these studies addressed the question of using the history of mathematics as a motivational factor. For instance, some found that teaching or using the history of mathematics boosted students‟ interest in the topics, lowered mathematical anxiety, and increased motivation, as well as supporting student learning and increasing the understanding of mathematical concepts. In the present paper, we analyze the positive effects that integrating elements of the history of mathematics into regular math classes could have on student motivation. We argue that students could greatly benefit from the inclusion of topics from the history of mathematics in regular classes.

For the past forty years, social science researchers have studied how to encourage pro-environmental behaviors such as the adoption of recycling programs, water conservation strategies, and purchase of sustainable products. This article presents a synthesis of these research findings as they relate to the design of sustainable products and technologies. Research from environmental psychology, consumer studies, economics, decision sciences, public policy, and behavioral psychology are organized into cognitive concepts that are crucial to the successful purchase and use of sustainable products. The cognitive concepts reviewed are: responsibility, complex decision-making skills, decision heuristics, the altruism-sacrifice link, trust, cognitive dissonance/guilt, and motivation. Product examples are provided to highlight the role of these cognitive concepts in sustainable design. Design recommendations and relevant design methods are discussed. The recommendations require dynamic and on-going coordination between designers, manufacturers, marketers, and government policy-makers to achieve positive changes in individuals’ behaviors. The success of sustainable products depends on the success of this coordination.

This policy note outlines the key details of Indonesia’s National Action Plan for P/CVE before discussing the evident challenges and opportunities moving forward. The ambitious strategy (known by its Indonesian acronym, RAN PE) could decentralize P/CVE programming in Indonesia, facilitate the formalization of working relationships between civil society organizations and local government authorities, mainstream gender perspectives, and streamline activities to improve targeting and avoid overlap. But constructive outcomes will depend on overcoming thorny obstacles, such as coordinating the varied interests, motivations, and capacities of the many stakeholders involved, and allaying concerns over applicable definitions that some perceive as overly broad and possibly divisive.

Abstract: the proposed business didactic game is aimed at developing the creative attitude of the teacher to his own professional activity. The motivational material of a business didactic game allows the teacher to understand that his activity has sometimes elusive pedagogical algorithms and strategies, the totality of which can be called such a concept as an individual methodological style of activity. In addition to pedagogical strategies, this concept reflects the unique psychological qualities of the individual, which allow the teacher to influence the quality of the acquired knowledge. It is also emphasized that the concept of an individual style of activity is the result of the teacher's internal hard work, the result of a long search, value. On this basis, the individual style of activity rejects the concept of "charisma", since it is self-sufficient and does not need to be theatrically announced to any audience. All the value bases of an individual methodological style of activity are aimed not at narcissism, but at helping students in mastering the internal content of a particular academic subject. The leading sign of the formation of an individual methodological style of activity is the ability to correctly combine one's original author's position on the content principles of the taught subject with the guiding and prescriptive lines of the work program. The author's position of the teacher, which combines the emotional and rational components, is also reflected in external behavioral mechanisms. At the same time, expressive forms of behavior are not a mandatory feature of the individual style of methodological activity. A special style of preparing educational material, a list of methods and forms of teaching is structured on the basis of a situational understanding of the subtle mechanisms of teaching, educating and developing schoolchildren

Abstract The debate about whether to reduce import barriers on fresh produce in order to decrease the cost of living and increase welfare or to continue protecting the local agricultural sector by imposing import duties on fresh vegetables and fruits has been part of the Israeli and the US political dialog. The alternative of building a strong local brand that will direct patriotic feelings to support of the agricultural sector has been previously discussed in the literature as a non-tax barrier to global competition. The motivation of consumers to pay more for local fresh fruits and vegetables are better quality, environmental concerns, altruism, and ethnocentrism. Local patriotic feelings are expected to be stronger among national-religious consumers and weaker among secular left wing voters. This project empirically analyzes consumers’ attitude toward local agricultural production, perceptions of the contribution of the agricultural sector to society and how these perceptions interact with patriotic beliefs and socio-political variables perhaps producing an ethnocentric preference for fruits and vegetables. This patriotic feeling may be contrasted with feelings toward rival (or even politically opposing) countries competing in the same markets. Thus geo-political landscape may help shape the consumer’s preferences and willingness to purchase particular products. Our empirical analysis is based on two surveys, one conducted among Israeli shoppers and one conducted among US households. We find strong influences of nationalism, patriotism and ethnocentrism on demand for produce in both samples. In the case of Israel this manifests itself as a significant discount demanded for countries in conflict with Israel (e.g., Syria or Palestine), with the discount demanded being related to the strength of the conflict. Moreover, the effect is larger for those who are either more religious, or those who identify with right leaning political parties. The results from the US are strikingly similar. For some countries the perception of conflict is dependent on political views (e.g., Mexico), while for others there is a more agreement (e.g., Russia). Despite a substantially different religious and political landscape, both right leaning political views and religiosity play strong roles in demand for foreign produce.
