Der volle Inhalt der QuelleLightening aircraft remains a major issue for the aeronautics industry. The development of composites with thermoplastic matrices, replacing thermosetting ones, makes it possible to obtain weldable and recyclable materials, with a higher service temperature. This thesis is part of the PSPC HAICoPAS project, led by Hexcel and Arkema, whose goal is to design high-performance thermoplastic matrix composite tapes. The objective of this thesis is to evaluate the impact of water and Skydrol (a hydraulic fluid used in aeronautics) on the properties of CF/PEKK composites (carbon fiber reinforced polyetherketoneketone) and to identify the mechanisms responsible for potential loss of property. To answer this problem, the study concerns both the PEKK matrix alone and the CF/PEKK composite. The water transport mechanisms in the matrix as well as in the composite are determined by gravimetry. The different water transport parameters are measured in a temperature range of 30°C to 70°C, both in water immersion and by DVS, for relative humidities between 10% and 90%. The diffusion of water in the PEKK alone follows a Fick's law while a deviation from this law is visible at long times for the CF/PEKK composite immersed in water. The solubility of water in PEKK follows Henry's law. However, water absorption in the composite, as a function of relative humidity, is modeled by Henry's law coupled with a power law attributed to a “clustering” phenomenon taking place in the microcavities. The mechanical properties of the matrix and of the composite are little affected by water, which essentially induces plasticization of the matrix and which does not seem to affect the fibre/matrix interface. The immersion of CF/PEKK composite in the Skydrol reveals a quantity of fluid absorbed by the crossed composite [0/90] ten times greater than for the unidirectional layup. This result is the consequence of cavities of submicronic size created in the [0/90] composite in the form of decohesions at the fibre/matrix interface. These decohesions are present only at the level of the interply of the cross-ply composites (0/90, ±45° or quasi-isotropic). Their formation is attributed to the thermal shrinkage differential that exists between the carbon fibers and the PEKK matrix, causing a post-consolidation residual stress field upon cooling. These very localized damages do not affect the resulting mechanical properties in ILSS

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleCarbon Fiber/High performance thermoplastic matrix composites are of great interest for the aeronautical industry, for the reduction of process times as well as for their potential ability to be welded and recycled compared to their thermoset matrix-based composites counterparts. In this context, the HAICoPAS (Highly Automatized Integrated Composites for Performing Adaptable Structures) collaborative project, built around an industrial and academic consortium and led by Hexcel and Arkema, aims to develop the entire production chain of a continuous carbon fiber reinforced composite with a PEKK (Polyetherketoneketone) matrix. This goes from the pre-impregnation of the tape to the welding of real parts capable of meeting industrial requirements, in particular, consolidate parts in out-of-autoclave (OOA) system with a porosity rate inferior to 1%.As the resorption of intra or interply voids requires a local flow of the whole composite, squeeze flow rheological tests have been modeled to understand the viscous behavior of this highly filled system. The power law viscosity parameters have been identified at 1 bar, as well as an unexpected increase of these parameters with the applied pressure which has been related to "shear banding". Then, consolidation experiments under vacuum bag in an oven, coupled with model rheological tests reproducing the same time-temperature-pressure cycle, have highlighted the process / microstructure / mechanical properties relationships induced. A good dispersion of fibers along with few porosities confined in dry areas is necessary to facilitate the out of autoclave consolidation of the composite. Also, an increase in the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS), observed with consolidation time, was found to be related to the homogenization of the {fibers + matrix} distribution at the interplies rather than to the more usually considered porosity rate. Finally, the important role played by the volatiles and the moisture content in particular, in the consolidation of the composite was identified

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBone is the most transplanted tissue in the world and bone defects after osteoporosis, cancer and fractures remain problematic with a high level of infections. Systemic drug delivery is not efficient due to a low migration of drug into the bone, a local administration is necessary. The strategy of this thesis is to develop two hybrid substitutes (hydroxyapatite / hydrogel), the first one could be injectable and the other one could be directly implanted for the release of a combination of antibiotics (ciprofloxacin / gentamicin). A dual release system will be developed to treat long term infection with a rapid release (via diffusion into the hydrogel) and a slow release (via microparticles). In the first part, gentamicin (GM)-loaded PLGA microparticles were prepared by double emulsion with evaporation of the solvent. The microparticle preparation method has been optimized to obtain a size of microparticles compatible with the macroporosity of the hydroxyapatite (HA) and a sustained release over 25-30 days. Thus, the time of sonification of the first emulsion was set at 2 minutes in order to obtain a maximal efficacy of encapsulation. The speed of rotation of the second emulsion was fixed at 700 rpm to obtain a 60µm-diameter size of microparticles. The microparticles were analyzed by DSC, TGA and SEM. The antibacterial activity of gentamicin loaded microparticles was demonstrated on S. aureus (CIP224).In the second part we developed a bone substitute where chitosan (CHT) hydrogel was formed in situ in the macroporosity of a tridimensional hydroxyapatite printed piece. This hydrogel was obtained chemically with a crosslinking agent (genipin) to allow injection and a relatively slow gelation. The formation of the CHT hydrogel (2%-wt) was analyzed by UV-Vis spectrophotometry and rheology to optimize the time (24 hours), the temperature (40°C) and the concentration of genipin (0.05%-wt). The study of the release kinetics of ciprofloxacin (CFX) incorporated into the hydrogel (0.1; 0.5 and 1%) showed rapid release (<5 hours) in dynamic system (30 ml/min). The addition of cyclodextrin (CD) in the formulation did not shown a prolonged release of CFX, itself responsible to an increase of the gelation time due to an inclusion of genipin in the CD. Finally the hydrogel was incorporated in the macroporosity of HA before the gelation. Biological evaluation showed its cytocompatibility and antibacterial activity up to 24 hours on E. coli._x000D_In the last part, we developed an injectable bone substitute where HA particles (90 microns) were incorporated into the hydrogel during the preparation. This hydrogel was obtained by a physical way with an anionic polymer of cyclodextrin (PCD) for a fast gelation time (<10 seconds) avoiding sedimentation of the HA. Further study showed that a proportion of at least 3% of CHT and at least 3% of PCD was required for the formation of the hydrogel. Swelling and rheological properties showed the impact of the ratio PCD / CHT, the soluble and insoluble form of the PCD and the addition of HA on the formation of the hydrogel. After lyophilization, the sponge was hydrated in a solution of CFX (2 mg/ml). Biological studies did not shown cytotoxicity and microbiological evaluation showed a prolonged antibacterial activity up to 72 hours on E. coli.In conclusion, this thesis allowed the development of two hybrid bone substitutes for rapid release of CFX (<72 hours) and slow release of gentamicin-loaded microparticles (25-30 days). The incorporation of gentamicin loaded microparticles was possible in both bone substitutes allowing an antibacterial activity until 3 days against S. aureus and E. coli

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleInjury of the peripheral nerve leads to local degeneration at the damaged site. If the injury results in a large nerve gap, spontaneous regeneration does not lead to functional recovery of the nerve. Among the several therapeutic strategies available, autograft is currently the most efficient technique but is associated with morbidity at the donor site. In the tissue engineering approach that we have investigated, nerve guides are typically elaborated with biocompatible materials to orient nerve outgrowth and regeneration. In this context, we have evaluated materials assembled with functionalized microspheres to form a gradient of neurotrophic factors with the aim of guiding nerve regeneration in the lumen of tubular conduits. We have studied the elaboration of chitosan and collagen microspheres from an emulsion generated in a controlled manner using a microfluidic technology. The solidification of the emulsion droplets was then achieved by the diffusion of ammonia vapors. The microspheres functionalization has been investigated and characterized using model fluorescent molecules, namely FITC (Fluorescein Isothiocyanate) and a protein (BSA, Bovine Serum Albumin) labeled with FITC. These functionalized microspheres were then assembled in the form of membranes with typical dimensions in the centimeter range, and exhibiting a functionalization gradient. Finally, preliminary experiments have demonstrated the possibility of animal implantation by rolling and suturing the membranes to a sectioned sciatic nerve. This work has allowed us to establish the proof of concept of this approach to elaborate functional nerve conduits and will need to be followed by complete study of functional nerve regeneration

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe advantages brought by natural fibers in the composite materials sector are multiple: lightness, good specific mechanical properties, competitive cost and reduced environmental impact. In view of these advantages, the interest for these fibers has multiplied the scientific studies concerning them, in particular with regard to the objectives of a sustainable development. However, the use of these materials in structural parts is subject to the knowledge of their long-term behavior and in front of the various dynamic and repetitive loads. In this context, the objective of this thesis is to study the mechanical behavior of a flax fiber composite and Elium® matrix in fatigue and impact. In a first step, this study allowed to determine the mechanical properties of the material in traction and to follow the induced damage by means of microscopic observations and acoustic emission analysis. Then, in order to answer the problem related to the resistance and endurance in fatigue, the experimental campaign carried out allowed an estimation of the LCF/HCF limit and to study the damage in repetitive loading of the material. Finally, the response to low speed impact was studied. Different tools were used to study the impact response. The results also showed a strong potential of repair after impact of the composite, in the absence of fiber rupture, and this thanks to the thermoplastic resin Elium®

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe aim of this work was to study a bonding dentin/titanium interface. The objective was to optimize and simplify the steps of the bonding protocol, improve and know well the performance of the adhesive interface. In this work, all interfaces have been tested in vitro by shearing. This study included three parts :The purpose of the first study was to evaluate an assemblage by glass ionomer cement (GIC), the Fuji plus®, applied in combination with self-etch bonding system on dentin. Three combinations "system self-etching / Fuji Plus®" were applied and the results obtained by test showed significant improvements from 9% to 44% higher than the values obtained on control specimens. The second experimental part was designed to test the compatibility between five self-etch bonding systems (SEBS) and two resin luting cements (RLC). Significant differences of bond strength in shear were observed according to both the curing mode of the RLC and the adhesive. The SEBS1 proved totally incompatible with chemical or dual cured RLC. Conversely, two-steps SEBS were compatible with RLC chemical/dual cured RLC. A positive correlation was found between the pH of the SEBS or the tested resins and the shear data. The latest study was devoted to evaluate the effect of the storage condition on flexural strength (σf) and shear bond strength (SBS) of a dentin/titanium interface assembled by four self-etch adhesive resin (SEARC). This study showed that the storage in water for 60 days has negatively affected the bending resistance of certain materials. The dentin/titanium adherence offered by Rely X® and G-Cem® was significantly higher than that of Maxcem® and SmartCem2®
