The research reported here tested the factor structure of a measure for sense of community in community organizations, and it evaluated sense of community's potential as an empowering organizational characteristic within an organizational empowerment framework. Randomly selected community organization participants ( N = 561) were surveyed as part of a study of a substance abuse prevention initiative located in the northeastern United States. Confirmatory factor analysis verified the putative structure of the sense of community measure tailored to community organizations. Hierarchical regression analyses indicated that community organization sense of community significantly predicted intrapersonal empowerment after controlling for demographics, participation, alienation, and other empowering organizational characteristic. Findings imply that organizational sense of community should be considered as an empowering organizational characteristic in community-based health education.

An organization´s culture is manifested through its mission, human relations, organizational culture, culture medium, the message the organization to external environment, cultural footprint of social organization. The article defines the notion of a cultural organization and indicated that the image of a cultural organization should strive to all organizations in the conditions of increasing competition and the growing importance of the economy of experiences. The human world consists of a set of relations, organizations and various values. Over the entire period of human history has been created and tested a number of different organizational forms of human coexistence and joint activities, starting from the community and the army and ending with corporations and virtual organizations. Culture as a basic sphere of human activity, which determines not only the principles of attitudes and behavior, but also the development of society, has the most significant influence on the formation and development of all forms of organization of human relations. Interpretation of social organization as a culture determines the emergence of new organizational forms. One such form is a cluster. Contemporary social organization should strive to become an essential element of the culture area, community or audience, which is manifested in the cultural formation of social organization, from the behaviors associated with its people, and helping to shape the image of the future, not only the organization but also all related cultural community . The high performance of learning organization leadership among head masters is able to strengthen the practice of professional learning community among teachers through the empowerment of organizational social capital. Previous studies have shown that high performing leadership has so far less encouraged the practice of professional learning community because the closeness of organizational social capital is not optimized for that purpose. The purpose of this study was to examine the role of head masters learning organization leadership and organizational social capital on professional learning community practices in schools. This study uses a survey research method involving 476 respondents selected using stratified multi-level cluster sampling method. Meanwhile, the research instruments were adapted from the learning organization leadership questionnaire, the organizational social capital questionnaire and the professional learning community practice benchmark questionnaire. Inferential data were analyzed using Importance-Performance Matrix Analysis (IPMA) procedure through SmartPLS Version 3.2.9 software. The findings of this study indicate that the leadership of learning organizations is at a high level of performance but the importance in improving the level of professional learning community practices in schools is low. While the importance of organizational social capital in improving the level of professional learning community practices in schools is high while its performance is at a low level. Therefore, this study suggests that head masters play a role as leaders of learning organizations in boosting the performance of organizational social capital to ensure the practice of professional learning community among teachers is more robust in their respective schools.

Many organizations in the world realize that to maintain the stability of an organization within a lot of turnover in human resources, Knowledge Management (KM) is a matter that cannot be forgotten. Since by storing the knowledge, organizations can continue to distribute the knowledge to people and to develop it into a practice of learning, problem solving, and then at the end it becomes a “Best Practice”. Sharing knowledge becomes the main reference in KM in large and small organizations. By multiplying the activities of knowledge sharing among employees in an organization, it can improve the competitiveness of the organization. All activities in knowledge sharing will be easier if it is formed in a Community of Practice (CoP). CoP can be regarded as a best method. In addition there are many benefits that can be spawned by it, such as in the development, dissemination of knowledge to the development of culture in an organization. The method in this paper uses literature study by describing best practices and case studies in a private bank in Indonesia. By forming the CoP, it is expected to motivate employees to share knowledge for the improvement of organizational performance. Keywords: organization, knowledge management, community of practice

Organization-sponsored sharing platforms represent the sharing economy ideal because they facilitate the peer-to-peer exchange of goods and services among members of an established community. By embedding sharing within an organization, this platform configuration infuses collaborative consumption with the moral dimension of shared values and concerns. However, the conflicting institutional logics inherent in community-based sharing create paradoxical tensions that are likely to destabilize this new organizational form. Therefore, to understand when an organization-sponsored sharing platform is viable, we conducted an empirical investigation of the Zimride by Enterprise® ridesharing platform for universities and corporations. Using qualitative and quantitative data from 25 organizations that sponsored Zimride’s ridesharing service, we found that this new organizational form is characterized by contradictions due to the market, hierarchy, and community logics of its multilevel B2B2P2P service delivery model. However, the mere presence of such paradoxical tensions did not render this sharing economy ideal infeasible. We therefore discuss when the Zimride platform was viable and how site coordinators at sponsoring organizations managed, in particular, the tension between their organizational members’ need for a heterogeneous supply of transportation options and a strong collective identity to motivate their collaborative consumption.

The project combined the author's interest in midlife volunteering with the organization's need for long-term planning in volunteer and program development. Important components of this endeavor mirror those previously reported in the literature as necessary for collaborative success, including shared concerns, good timing, strong stakeholder groups, involvement of high-level visible leaders, and development of respect and trust. In addition, the author found that prior involvement between the university and the organization helped, as did the author's prior experience with collaborative efforts. Also discussed are the positive outcomes and challenges of undertaking academic research with community organizations.

One of the form of applying the value of democratic in Indonesia is accommodate by the regulation of community organization which is concretely regulated in the provisions of article 28 E Paragraph 3 of the 1945 constitution also in the provisions of law number 39 of 1999 on Human Rights. The existence of community organizations does have a great constribution in the implementation of the state, but on the other hand the existence of people raises the pro and contra. The enecment of government regulation number 59 on community organization established by foreign citizens makes the community more worried if the exixtance of community organizations affect the sovereignty of NKRI because they have different ideology with Indonesia. Based on this, it should be discussed about the organizations in Indonesia. The position of foreign social organizatios in Indonesia is reviwed from the government regulation number 59 of 2016 on community organizations established by foreign citizens and the influence of basic organizations for the sovereignty of NKRI. To answer that question, qualitative method is used as a means to answer the problem by conducting of normative juridical approach which is done by reviewing the law and the literature. Based on this study, it is concluded that the existence of foreign social organizatios in Indonesia in line with democracy and human right but also politically can treaten NKRI.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of gender on the organizational commitments of managers in community-based organizations. Design/methodology/approach A total of 327 managers in community-based organizations were asked about their work attitudes. LISREL analysis was performed. The dependent variable was the intention to withdraw from the organization. The questionnaires were mailed to the sampled population. In all, 202 questionnaires were returned, representing a 62 percent response rate. Findings Findings show that for women, job involvement was related to affective organizational commitment and to career commitment, but not to continuance organizational commitment. The current research offers an alternative path structure to that of Randall and Cote’s (1991) original model, which does not relate job involvement to continuance organizational commitment. As for men, the author found a significant relationship between job involvement, career commitment, and affective organizational commitment. Hence, men’s work attitudes in this study are consistent with those elicited in the original research model. Regarding the factors influencing withdrawal intentions among women, the author found that career commitment influenced the initial intention to withdraw from the organization and thinking of quitting. The author also found that affective organizational commitment influenced initial intention to withdraw, thinking of quitting, and search intentions. Among men, there was a significant relationship between job involvement, career commitment, and affective organizational commitment. Research limitations/implications Future research should use multiple informants for assessing the model as well as a longitudinal design. Another potential avenue of research is to examine whether the findings hold true across professions and sectors. Practical implications The findings are important for community-based organizations because they are not-for-profit organizations; therefore, the provision of good service to the community is based on managers’ high levels of commitment. In addition, results could assist managers in developing a policy to bolster adequate work attitudes by considering the differences between men and women, in order to retain high-quality workers in the organization. Social implications The social contribution of this study derives from the demographic differences found between men and women, and according to the literature that supports the inclusion of different genders, cultures, and social groups in community-based organizations. Originality/value The findings are important for community-based organizations because they are not-for-profit organizations and therefore good service to the community is based on high commitment of managers.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to build insight into how the local community impacts an organization’s ability to develop an inclusive culture. The paper introduces the concept of inclusion disconnects as incongruent experiences of inclusion between an organization and its community. Then, using the case of teaching hospitals, the paper empirically demonstrates how individuals and organizations experience and deal with inclusion disconnects across the boundaries of organization and community. Design/methodology/approach – A multi-method qualitative study was conducted in hospitals located in the same city. Focus groups were conducted with 11 medical trainees from underrepresented backgrounds and semi-structured interviews were conducted with ten leaders involved with diversity efforts at two hospitals. Data analysis followed an iterative approach built from Miles and Huberman (1994). Findings – The findings demonstrate how boundary conflicts arise from disconnected experiences of organizational and community inclusiveness. Such disconnects create challenges for leaders in retaining and supporting minority individuals, and for trainees in feeling like they could build a life within, and outside of, their organizations. Based on findings from the data, the paper offers insights into how organizations can build their capacity to address these challenges by engaging in boundary work across organizational and community domains. Research limitations/implications – Future research should build upon this work by further examining how inclusion disconnects between communities and organizations impact individuals and organizations. Practical implications – The paper includes in-depth insight into how organizations can build their capacity to address such a deep-rooted challenge that comes from a less inclusive community. Originality/value – This paper contributes to an understanding of how forces from the community outside an organization can shape internal efforts toward fostering inclusion and individuals’ experiences of inclusion.

The study of democratic hypocrisy is mainly related to state control of people’s freedom to associate and assemble, and Strategies to overcome them in Indonesia have not been comprehensive in analyzing qualitatively and identifying the emergence of social movements and what makes community organizations strong. This article aims to describe and analyze the causes of a country with a democratic system that guarantees freedom of association and assembly, plus the statement of the President Joko Widodo regime, which urges the public to be active in criticizing the government instead to act repressively and the causes of social movements through community organizations to become strong. This research was conducted by observing community organizations (Ormas) and studying literature. The results showed that repressive actions until the dissolution of mass organizations were carried out because the more significant the threat of a social movement, social movement organization, or protest activity against the government and government elites, the more possible repressive actions will be carried out. Meanwhile, what makes mass organizations exist is analyzed based on the theory of the political process, in which the mass organizations make movements because they see political opportunities and then add the strength of popular organizations. Even though political and organizational opportunities alone do not quickly produce social movements, someone with his leadership is needed to fill the political opportunity and the organization’s strength, such as the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), which owns Habib Rizieq Shihab. The low level of public satisfaction with the regime also causes mass organizations’ social movements to exist increasingly, overlapping often inconsistent policies, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, making community satisfaction decrease. A community organization who contradicts the constitution will obviously disturb the common order and also disturb the system of Indonesian people and the nation itself, especially if such organization aims to change the Indonesian constitution. In Chapter XVII of Law Number 17 of 2013 regarding Community Organization, later known as the Community Organization Law, it is stated that the disbanding of community organization must go through a procedure which consist of a warning, temporary suspension and then the disbanding by the court of law. In the Community Organization Law, the disbanding of an organization is done by a Judicative Institution which is through the decision of a judicial board. However, the Government Regulation in Lieu of Law Number 2 of 2017 regarding the Amendment on Law Number 17 of 2013 regarding Community Organization, later known as the Government Regulation in Lieu of Community Organization Law states that the disbanding of a Community Organization contradicting the constitution only goes through the administrative admonition, temporary suspension of activity, and later the revocation of listed certification or the revocation of lawful institution status by the Government. The purpose of this research is to discover the authority of National Institution in disbanding Community Organization that contradicts the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and also the authoritative obstacle faced by the national institution in dissolving such organizations. This research is a normative one which researched existing secondary data as a literary data supported by empirical data acquired from interview processes. Result of the research shows that the governmental institution which in this case are the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and Judicative Institution which in this case the Supreme Court has authority to disband Community Organizations that contradicts the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia based on normative terms. However, in order to establish justice on said organization, the disbanding must be done by Judicative Institution so that it is more objective, but not by the Supreme Court, but by the Constitutional Court, due to the existence of Public Organizations being closely related to the Constitutional Right the way it is for the Political Parties. This research suggests that the disbanding of Community Organizations that contradicts the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia should be done by the Constitutional Court, preceded by material check on the applicable positive law. Hospitals are attempting more meaningfully to involve physicians in management as one approach to increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of their operations. The purpose of this research was to explore the relationship between the structure of the medical staff organization, the extent to which physicians are integrated into hospital decision making and the hospital's financial performance. A measure of hospital-physician integration was developed based on Alexander et al's (1986) dimensions of hospital-physician integration which were based on Scott's (1982) organizational models, ie, autonomous, heteronomous and conjoint. A multiple case study design, which comprised eight community non-teaching hospitals over 200 beds located in the Province of Ontario, Canada, was used to examine the relationship between variables. Study results suggest that there is variation among community hospitals on both contextual and organization factors. Hospitals with high levels of hospital-physician integration were located in highly populated areas, had formulated and implemented a strategic plan, had highly structured medical staff organizations, and had no budgetary deficit. In contrast, hospitals with moderate or low levels of integration were more likely to be located in lowly populated areas, had little planning activity, had a moderately structured medical staff organization, and had deficit budgeting. Suggested areas for future research include examining the role of the Board of Trustees in determining physicians' organizational roles and identifying differences in commitments, characteristics, and motivations of physicians working in rural versus urban hospitals and their impact on integrative strategies.

Mismatched incentives between individuals and organizations occur frequently. At times, individuals are led to undertake actions that benefit their immediate interests but which undermine organizational values. At other times, individuals, acting rationally, forego actions that would have created value for an organization or a community. John D Aram examines several organizations and two communities through the framework of mismatched individual and organizational incentives. His analysis suggests that several paths exist for overcoming mismatched incentives and for achieving greater individual-organization integration. His observations raise various possibilities for managing organizations for higher performance and also suggest questions for further research.

Abstract With continuous expansion of cities, the contradiction between the limited government resources and residents’ diverse needs grows increasingly prominent and the urban government at the primary level faces mounting pressure. It has become an important attempt to address the tough issues of the community and reduce the government pressure to incubate and foster community organizations which help the residents to achieve self-organization, self-management and self-satisfaction. Over recent years, the practice across the country reveals various problems in the fostering of community organizations, like the difficulties in fostering them, the poor sustainability and being more in name than in reality. The article conducts a case study of the success of Community Y in Beijing to illustrate its experiences in fostering community organizations and presents the path for the fostering of such organizations. Proceeding from the residents’ needs, it makes the community organizations into responsible subjects, increases its capacity for resource allocation and thus achieves the objective of democratic governance of the organization.

The community hypotheses of earlier European and North American vegetation ecologists stimulated much thought-provoking research on the nature of plant community organization. These research efforts can now be seen as providing an improved understanding of species patterning in broader ecosystem units, such as those defined by Krajina's biogeoclimatic zones. Built on this tradition, the author's research concept is outlined, which generally begins with the documentation of species distribution patterns, leading to autoecological studies of key species and then to a synthesis of species functions at the ecosystem level. This approach resulted in an ecosystem theory that explains periodic stand-level dieback in the Hawaiian rain forest as primarily a demographic phenomenon of the leading canopy species, Metrosideros polymorpha. The theory may have application to similar forests that are made up of mosaics of cohort stands. The theory also adds to a better understanding of the ecological concepts of climax and succession and provides for an important plant ecological criterion in the design of natural areas for ecosystem conservation.

The ecological niche concept was developed by animal ecologists, and the concept has only recently been applied to plant population studies to any great degree. Many different aspects of the niche concept have been explored to determine the manner in which plant communities are organized. In one approach, interest in understanding the response of plant populations to fine-scale heterogeneity has given plant ecologists an organism-oriented view of the plant community. One advantage of the concepts that are presently being developed in plant ecological studies is that individual-plant models can be used to scale the understanding of microscale plant phenomena to larger spatial scales. In this paper, we present two examples that show how these niche concepts can be incorporated into dynamic models that can be used to generate landscape-scale patterns.

The performance of student organizations is a crucial variable in maintaining their existence and achieving their organizational goals. One of the important factors that influence this is the degree of sense of community of the members of the organization. Sexism as a gender prejudice is considered to have the potential to influence aspects of the sense of community and organizational performance. This study aims to examine sexism as a moderator on the relationship between sense of community and organizational performance. This study uses a quantitative method and determines the subject using a random sampling technique to the members of student organizations with a total of 223 subjects. The measuring instrument used is Sense of Community version 2, The Ambivalent of Sexism Inventory, and an Organizational Performance Scale. Data analysis used the method of moderated regression analysis. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between sense of community and organizational performance, and sexism as a moderator variable had an insignificant value on the relationship between sense of community and organizational performance. Amid the debate of whether community-based organizations created by the government can increase citizen participation in public affairs, by conducting a case study on Village Council formed by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, this research aimed to investigate the way this organization works and whether this organization can increase citizen participation. This study used a mixed method to achieve research objectives. The result indicated the minimal role of the Village Council in encouraging citizen participation. The ability of community organization to establish a quality relationship with citizens become a significant determining factor for inviting citizens to participate. However, it is not enough because the context of the existence of community organizations also determines the ability of community organizations to play their roles such as the construction of legal formal and construction of relationships built between a community organization and the arena of policymaking.

The organizations, in the present days, are facing a dynamic environment which makes that no organization is immune towards change. Technological changes, innovations in communication, movements in the job market, globalization, make the organization face continuous challenges regarding competition, general non-stability of the macro-environment, merging and re-engineering of the work processes. To face these challenges, the organization reassesses the strategies, structure, policies, actions, processes and their culture. So the organizational change (OC) is inevitable in the environment where the organizations operate. Organizational change can be a very small change (additional) or it can be fundamental (transformative). Regardless of the form, function or size that the organizatioal change can make, there is an agreement between the community of the researchers that the pace of the organizational change has never been as high as in our days and it must be considered as a “feature which is present in the organizational life both in the operational level as well as in the strategic level” (By, 2005). Researchers already see the organizational change as a feature, present and continuous of the organizational life, inconsistent with the previous conceptualism that viewed the organizations as relatively stable systems, which developed over time through additional planned changes, which took place in regular and predicted phases (Burnes, 2004; Cummings -Worley, 2009). The famous expression “organizations don’t change, people do”, creates the need for change agents to understand that employees have different reactions to change initiative, because they have different personal experiences, motivation levels, socio-demographic characteristics, knowledges, values and different behavior models

This case addresses a timely problem many non-profit sport organizations face: social media management. Due to a lack of resources and technical skills, many organizations fail to effectively utilize social media. This case focuses on the challenges of social media integration in Greenville Little Leagues (GLL), a chartered member of Little League International. Little League International is a global non-profit sports organization comprised of local league members such as GLL. This case focuses on a dilemma an intern with GLL must solve regarding social media and its annual tournament. The case outlines the organizational details regarding GLL’s operation and annual tournament, as well as their current social media strategy. This case provides an opportunity for students to: 1) examine effective tactics for using social media to develop community, 2) develop strategies non-profit sport organizations could use to promote community building, 3) identify cost-effective social media tactics for engaging a rapidly changing audience, and 4) articulate how to effectively utilize volunteers to share social media responsibilities. The case is intended for use in event management, organizational behavior, and/or marketing courses and provides an opportunity to highlight how research can and should inform practice.

Academic anthropologists have many valuable skills to offer community-based non-profit organizations. Conceptualizing and tracing the embeddedness of the organization in its community, constituency, or client base, especially in situations of change, is essential in understanding and reformulating organizational mission, designing new programming, developing leadership and governance, building coalitions and alliances, measuring organizational effectiveness and achievements, and being able to articulate a compelling rationale in grant-writing and other funding appeals for organizational support.
