Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic, multisystem inflammatory condition where patients are at a higher risk for a number of major systemic comorbidities including cardiovascular disease, obesity, depression, uveitis, and cancer. These comorbidities which are frequently unrecognized or undertreated contribute significantly to the morbidity and mortality associated with PsA. There is emerging data further supporting the link between inflammation and cardiovascular disease. The detection and management of PsA patients with comorbidities requires a coordinated approach which is not yet clearly defined. Meanwhile, it is important to conduct periodic comprehensive assessments in our PsA patients in order to identify and monitor comorbidities. The importance of multispecialty cooperation and multidisciplinary assessment cannot be over-stated.

Equivalent continuous information is not otherwise available. It is important to understand the principles of measurement and limitations, for safe use and error detection. PETCO2 and oxygen saturation should be regularly checked against PaCO2 and co-oximeter SO2 obtained from the blood gas machine. The PECO2 trace informs endotracheal tube placement, ventilation, and blood flow to the lungs. It is essential their principles of estimation, the information gained and the traps in interpretation are understood.

Understanding the interactions between the components of a system is key to understanding it. In complex systems, interactions are usually not uniform, not isotropic and not homogeneous: each interaction can be specific between elements.Networks are a tool for keeping track of who is interacting with whom, at what strength, when, and in what way. Networks are essential for understanding of the co-evolution and phase diagrams of complex systems. Here we provide a self-contained introduction to the field of network science. We introduce ways of representing and handle networks mathematically and introduce the basic vocabulary and definitions. The notions of random- and complex networks are reviewed as well as the notions of small world networks, simple preferentially grown networks, community detection, and generalized multilayer networks.

Prisons often concentrate people with or at risk for HIV within them and, due to the high-risk environment within prison, further amplify disease. Suboptimal access to evidence-based HIV prevention and treatment within prisons, including opioid agonist therapies with methadone or buprenorphine, antiretroviral therapy, and needle/syringe programs, results in worsening of disease during incarceration. Effective transitional programs that address continuity of prevention and treatment of HIV and substance use disorders, along with other co-morbid conditions, are crucial to reduce the harms from incarceration. Such programs not only must provide access to these services within prison but also must ensure that the services are continued after release. This chapter reviews how prisons contribute to negative health consequences related to HIV and addiction, provides examples of settings where policies and services greatly influence the high-risk prison setting, and offers a number of strategies to improve HIV detection, treatment, and prevention.
