Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis memory deals with the chemical oxidation of organic pollutants within the general framework of soil remediation. The chemical oxidation of three organic pollutants belonging to two different families (organochlorines and nitroaromatics) by: hydrogen peroxide (Fenton’s reaction and modified Fenton), persulfate (activated or not) and permanganate were studied. The oxidation of PCP, TCE and TNT by hydrogen peroxide and iron containing minerals (heterogeneous Fenton) proved to be applicable tat pH 7 and the activity of iron oxides (in particular magnetite) is preserved when incorporated into mineral assemblages with silicates or clay. These results indicate that the presence of the soil endogenous iron could be exploited for ISCO treatment process. The yields of oxidation with a pH close to neutrality increase in the presence of iron chelating agents like EDTA and CMCD. Persulfate was able to oxidize the PCP and the TCE without any chemical activation whereas it did not show any effect on the transformation of TNT. The iron minerals (goethite and magnetite) did not show any reactivity with respect to persulfate. However, the effectiveness of oxidation was increased by the activation of persulfate with EDTA iron chelates. Permanganate was able to oxidize PCP with a higher rate than that of TCE. However the effectiveness of the oxidation of TNT is much lower. A degradation pathway of PCP was proposed for the first time. The results obtained in column confirmed those obtained in batch and showed the feasibility of chemical oxidation under conditions similar to those found at field. For further research concerning the application of ISCO, pemanganate is the oxidant of choice for the organochlorine compounds and heterogeneous Fenton for the nitroaromatics

Aluminium nitride, AlN, is a very attractive substrate for UV LEDs manufacturing. The goal of this PhD thesis is to study the development of a growth process toi produce AlN single crystals at high temperature from a chloride gas-phase (HTCVD). AlN layers are deposited using NH3 and AlCl3 which is synthetized by the in situ reaction between aluminium and chlorine. A preliminary thermodynamic study is carried out in order to investigate materials incompatibilities at high temperature, the global chemical mechanisms and the optimized parameters useful for the development of AlN growth by CVD. An experimental parametric study is performed in order to understand the influence of operating conditions on AlN growth rate, surface morphology and crystalline state. Optimized conditions to achieve epitaxial growth are also investigated. Both, polycrystalline and epitaxial layers are structurally studied and their properties are investigated

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe purpose of this thesis is to determine the atmospheric fate of a number of VOCs widely used in different applications or directly produced into the troposphere by degradation of other VOCs. We have studied the degradation of benzylperoxy radical, a series of amides (N-dimethyl formamide, N-dimethyl acetamide, N-methylpyrrolidinone, N-dimethyl proprionamide) and a series of aromatic adehydes (2,4-dimethyl benzaldehyde, 2,5-dimethyl benzaldehyde, 2,6-dimethyl benzaldehyde, 3,4-dimethyl benzaldehyde and 3,5-dimethyl benzaldehyde). This work has been realised using several experimental techniques. We have determined the UV spectrum of benzylperoxy radical and the rate constants of the self reaction and the cross reaction with HO2 as a function of temperature (298-353 K) by using the laser photolysis technique with time resolved absorption UV-visible spectroscopy. The reaction rate constants of amides with NO3 radical have been determined as a function of temperature (277-353 K), by using the laser photolysis technique. This work provides the first kinetic study for the reaction of amides with NO3 as function of temperature. The absorption cross sections of aldehydes have been measured by UV-Visible spectrometry. The rate constants of the reaction of aldehydes with Cl atom have been determined at room temperature by using smog chambers. The analyses have been realized by Gas phase chromatography. This work represents the first reported kinetic study of the reaction of Cl atoms with these aldehydes. The whole results are discussed in order to assess the atmospheric implications of the compounds investigated (lifetimes and environmental impact)

Un gène d'acétolactate synthase d'un mutant d'Arabidopsis thaliana, résistant à deux herbicides sulfonylurée, a été transféré au tabac, via Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Plusieurs platules transgéniques ont été isolées. Des southern blots et une analyse génétique ont montré que la résistance est exprimée dans la descendance comme un caractère monogénique dominant. L'activité de l'acétolactale synthase est résistante à certains des sulfonylurées, mais pas aux imidazolinones. Le niveau d'enzyme résistante est suffisant pour permettre une croissance normale de semis, en présence de concentrations de deux herbicides sulfonylurées qui inhibibent complètement la croissance du témoin. La résistance est aussi exprimée au niveau da la plante entière
Selection and characterization of nitrate reductase deficient mutants of nicotiana plumbaginifolia : Two hundred and eleven nitrate reductase deficient mutants were isolated from gamma or UV irradiated nicotiana plumbaginifolia haploid protoplast cultures, using potassium chlorate as a selective agent. Plantlets were regenerated from resistant calli and tested for their lack of nitrate reductase activity and their inhabillity to grow on an medium with nitrate as sole nitrogen source. Biochemical and genetic analysis showed all mutants to be homozygous for nitrate reductase mutations. Mutations were transmitted as a single recessive mendelien character. Mutants were affected either in the gene coding for nitrate reductase apoenzyme ; nia, or in one of six molybdenum cofactor biosynthesis genes : cnxA/B/C/D/E and F. Some nia mutants showed partial intragenic complementation, probably because of the ability of two different nitrate reductase mutant apoenzyme to restore an almost normal catalytic activity. Growth of cnxA mutants was partially restored on a medium containing unphysiologically high level of molybdenum. This gene is probably involved in the step of integration of molybdenum in the cofactor
Transformation of tobacco with a sulfonylurea herbicide resistant gene via agrobacterium tumefaciens : Acetolactate synthase is the target of two herbicide families : sulfonylureas and imidazolinones. An acetolactate syntase gene from an Arabidopsis thaliana mutant, resistant to two different sulfonylurea herbicides was transferred to tobacco via Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Southern blots and genetic analysis showed the resistance to be expressed and transmitted to the progeny as a single dominant mendelien trait. Cross resistance to five sulfonylureas and to three imidazolinones was tested. Acetolactate synthase activity from both clones was signigicantly resistant to three of the sulfonylureas herbicides but sensitive to the two others and to imidazolinones. The level of resistant enzyme was sufficient to allow normal seedling growth in the presence of two sulfonylurea herbicide concentrations which completely inhibit growth of the control. Resistance was also expressed at the whole plant level

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleWith the objective of using Chloris gayana (a grass specie) as a tool on the remediation of a tipic Hapludult, medium texture, irrigated with industrial waste water, a field trial was installed in Matão (state of São Paulo, Brazil) in order to assess the total exportation capacity of sodium by the grass, under different rates of nitrogen and potassium. The experiment was carried out at the end of the dry season, on 6 x 7 meters plot on a randomized complete block design. The treatments were: untreated (nude soil), and grass fertilized with 0, 50, 100 & 200 kg of N and K2O.ha-1, applied at each grass harvesting event (40 days interval). Soil was collected at three depths, before treatment application, and after, together with both grass harvesting; those, with the objective of evaluating yield and foliar analysis. The results indicated a clear response of yield and leaf sodium content when the grass was submitted to 50, 100 & 200 kg.ha-1 of N and K2O, compared to the zero fertilizer treatment. The grass achieved 120 kg.ha-1 exportation capacities in 80 days, which is more than the amount of sodium applied by the irrigation (75 kg.ha-1). Chloris gayana, showed its utility as a potential bio remediator of sodic soils. Also, the results confirmed that is possible to use the soil as a tool to treat waste water containing sodium, by managing adequately the mentioned grass specie, mainly with nitrogen fertilizer, maintaining quality for production.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis carried out a detailed study of the potential impact of blue jet (BJ) streamers on stratospheric chemistry with the development of a plasma chemistry model, and identified the key mechanisms associated with different time scales (e.g. milliseconds, hundreds of seconds, days). After a review of knowledge in the field of study, the model development of plasma chemistry is presented, as well as the parameterizations of streamer discharge. Then the characteristics of the simulations (case study and initialization) are described. Compared to the study of W2015, the model validations focus on the altitude of 27 km, where ozone is abundant. The results were analyzed according to the parametrization used to represent the streamers, namely: i) a simplified parameterization with simple electrical impulses used in the cited studies, ii) a realistic parameterization from an electrodynamic model. A systematic study of the BJ streamer impacts on the disturbance of the chemical system is then performed at the altitudes between 20 km and 50 km. The chemical impact study focuses mainly on the nitrogen, chlorine and bromine families at different time scales
