Child protection is a primary and challenging issue for every country in the world. Instead of being educated at school, many children in India are involved in various activities such as working in hotels as servants, paperboys and doing the work of a salesperson due to various reasons like poverty, inequality and social and economic discrimination. There is a need for creating a favourable atmosphere and safe space for the overall development of the children. It is the responsibility of every individual, society, and government to protect children from various exploitative threats, abuse and violence that prevail in the societal structure. Parental care increases the strength and develops positive integration towards the community and society. Hence, the role of a family is very crucial in the overall development of the children. The present paper deals with a theoretical explanation of child protection and discusses the prevailing conditions of child protection in society. Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic spread in India is steeply rising. A 21-day lockdown has been imposed by the Government of India, to curtail its spread. This has impacted all walks of life, including the availability of food, and nutrition related services. This will impact nutritional status of children throughout India. The two major schemes, i.e. the Integrated Child Development Scheme and the Mid-day meal services scheme have also been affected leading to a risk of worsening of child nutrition. Some states have evolved their own strategies to mitigate the effect of lockdown during this crisis period. Here we discuss the challenges and way forward related to ensuring availability of food for child nutrition during this health crisis.

Abstract Aim The purpose of this review is to summarize the scientific literature that examined the importance of physical activity programs in the development of body scheme in primary school students by identifying methods and tests used to test body scheme on motor development, spatial-temporal orientation and coordination. Method Using the electronic databases Research Gate and Web of Science, we searched for articles using key words, including terms related to methods, intervention plan, children’s age and body schemes. We selected only those that followed the influences of an intervention plan on children. Results We selected 30 articles regarding the development of the body scheme, the spatial-temporal orientation and the coordination through an activity plan. The study results in the three categories show a significant influence on body scheme, spatial orientation and coordination. Following the tests applied and the results obtained, we can say that a well-structured program of physical activity influences the child’s development in terms of body scheme. If it is correctly integrated, one can avoid the existence of body diagram disorders that are quite common for children. Conclusion The harmonious physical development of the child is influenced by a program of physical activity. Early participation in these programs is recomended in order to avoid disorders of body scheme.

As India becomes more and more developed and we have greater means at our disposal, our response to our health challenges must reflect our changing health and socio-economic status. India faces enormous challenges in the area of women’s and children’s health. These findings point to the importance of investing in various growth factors and sanitation, and educating the public about hygiene to promote health knowledge and better child outcomes. As importantly, such investments have the potential of making the feeding program more effective. ICDS therefore takes holistic view of the development of the child and attempts to improve both his/her prenatal and postnatal environment. India has the highest prevalence of child malnutrition in the world and is ranked among the worst performing Commonwealth countries in terms of child undernutrition. This poor performance is despite the implementation of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) since 1975, which seeks to combat malnutrition through community-based Anganwadi workers. Anganwadi workers play a pivotal role in the implementation of the ICDS Programme and thus their understanding of the key concepts relating to the services provided at the centres is crucial. This study is carried out in the Indian state of Jharkhand, where almost half of the population is undernourished. The study seeks to gain insights on the understanding and perceptions of Anganwadi workers and the mothers with whom they interact, regarding the long term impact of being malnourished in the first 3 years of life. The study used a qualitative approach, with data collection methods including focus group discussions as well as individual in-depth interviews. The study findings suggest that the majority of Anganwadi workers know about the services provided. However, they were unable to state the reasons underlying why these services are important. Mothers on the other hand could only mention three out of six services and many mentioned that the services were scheduled on certain days. In addition, mothers were concerned about the services provided and mentioned that there was poor information sharing even though at times they expressed an interest in the programme. The knowledge of Anganwadi workers about the importance of nutrition in the first three years of life was limited. The same was observed among the mothers in this study. Anganwadi workers identified deficiencies in their training as a reason for their limited understanding about issues pertaining to nutrition within the programme. In conclusion, this study suggests a general lack of knowledge about programme components amongst the Anganwadi workers and mothers. The ICDS programme has failed to develop an understanding about the service components, its importance and consequences for malnutrition. Furthermore, there are limited services offered at the centre, presenting missed opportunities. This has resulted in mothers being deprived of important information which may be crucial in improving child survival and cognitive development. There is thus an urgent need to evaluate ICDS training provided to Anganwadi workers as well as constant retraining to reinforce critical messages. This will ensure that there is congruence between training and practice in the largest nutrition programme in the world.

Explores the relationship between recollections of parenting, Early Maladaptive Schemas (EMS), and symptoms of depression and anxiety in a sample of undergraduate students attending California State University, San Bernardino (N = 232). A correlational-regression approach was adopted to test the hypothesis. Parental socialization was measured with three different subscales. Psychological adjustment was measured by the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised. Early Maladaptive Schema was measured with the Schema Questionnaire-Short Form. Partial mediation of EMS was found with maternal connection and psychological control, but not with paternal socialization. Findings lend support to the schema model and suggest that clinical work with adults suffering from depression and/or anxiety may need to identify and re-structure EMS that develop from "toxic parenting."

This research explores the training needs of nannies in the United Kingdom in terms of the content and structure of introductory training. The research question formulated for this study is: What are the introductory training needs of nannies in the United Kingdom? The researcher approached the study qualitatively and empirical data was collected by means of a focus group discussion with a group of nannies. Empirical data indicates that nannies need training regarding: • The professional aspect of nannying; • the physical, emotional, and intellectual needs of children; • the various developmental levels of children and the role of the nanny within each phase; • working with parents; • different religions and cultures and their childcare practices. It was found that nannies need training that is structured in an affordable, brief, specific and practical way. The study therefore reveals that nannies have specific needs regarding both the content and structure of childcare training.

The presence of poverty, unemployment and children been infected or affected by HIV/Aids contributed to a high level of children in need of care and protection (Patel, 2005:165) and forced communities to came up with a ways of addressing this increasing need of alternative care. Cluster foster care schemes were one of the initiatives that were started spontaneously by community members to address need for more alternative care options (Colby-Newton, 2006:18). This form of alternative care was also included with the proclamation of the Children’s Act, 38 of 2005 and the Children’s Amendment Act, Act 41 of 2007 (Matthias, 2010:172-176). Although cluster foster care schemes are acknowledge and practice as a form of alternative care for children in need of care and protection the operationalising thereof remain a grey area. In an unpublished study by Taback and Associates, it was suggested that further research should be conducted regarding elements that need to be included in the operationalising of cluster foster care schemes (Taback and Associates, 2010:4). The above form the motivation for this study and also provide the basis for the formulation of the research question namely: “What are the operational elements necessary for the operationalising of cluster foster care schemes?” Following from the research problem and research question, the goal for this research was to explore and describe the present functioning of cluster foster care schemes in order to identify operational elements to be documented in a guideline for service providers and social workers. The researcher made use of qualitative research approach to explore and describe the participants’ perception on the research problem. This research endeavour firstly falls in the ambit of the phenomenology research design, which aimed to describe the conscious experience of the everyday life of the participants, which were in this study the managers of cluster foster care schemes as well as foster parents that provide foster care as part of a cluster foster care scheme. In addition to this the researcher also opted to include the exploratory, descriptive and contextual research design, which guided the exploration, description and contextualising of the views of the participants on elements needed to operationalise cluster foster care schemes. In order to achieve the above the researcher the researcher decided to make use of an intervention research model by Rothman and Thomas (1994:3-51), namely the “Intervention Develop and Design” framework (IDD framework). In this study the researcher only used phases one to phase four and certain steps of the IDD framework to develop the operational guidelines for the operationalising of cluster foster care schemes. In concluding the report of the study, the researcher provided summaries of and conclusions related to the background rational; research questions; goals and task objective of the study; the research methodology implemented; the empirical findings and literature consulted; and the developed operational guidelines. He concluded the document with recommendation related to the research process and methodology employed; research findings; and recommendation for further research on the research topic.

AbstractThis chapter examines the development of UK child migration to Australia in the inter-war period. Following the opening of Kingsley Fairbridge’s experimental farm school for child migrants at Pinjarra in 1913, the 1920s and 1930s saw a gradual increase in the number of voluntary societies involved in this work and of residential institutions in Australia receiving child migrants. The growth of these programmes in the wider context of the UK Government’s assisted migration policies is discussed. During the 1930s, the global financial depression weakened governmental support for assisted migration, and greater caution emerged within the UK Government about the value of some planned migration schemes. Nevertheless, by 1939, child migration to Australia was seen by UK policy-makers as a small but important part of the attempt to strengthen ties with Britain’s Dominions and to make more efficient use of their collective human and material resources.

Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) is a comprehensive package of services for early childhood care and development, targeted to the poorest areas of the country. The government of India launched the most important, multi-faceted ICDS scheme in 1975 with the main aim of providing integrated pre-school education and nutrition for children (infants up to six years of age), nutrition and health education for women in the age group of 15-45 years. Through this scheme, women and children living below the poverty line scattered in various parts of the country were to be integrated through a common program aiming towards improved nutrition and health.

ICDS-Integrated Child Development Services is India's only government program for combating the rampant malnutrition prevalent in young children. In this chapter, the authors aim to examine the need and scope of ICDS scheme, its services and countrywide reach; considering that every fifth child in the world lives in India, this scheme is critical to ensuring that today's children who are our citizens of tomorrow are well nurtured and nourished, thus securing the country's future. Also its efficacy in achieving stated objectives is assessed through analysis of vital parameters such as nutritional status, mortality rates etc. Further, the bottlenecks facing the scheme such as lack of adequate sanitation facilities and supervisory staff etc. are studied and the initiatives taken by the government to revitalize it are also examined. The transformation into Mission Mode has ushered in programmatic, institutional and management reforms and renewed thrust on creating awareness through an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign.

Abstract This chapter begins by examining the background to and the development of the new British system of assessing and enforcing the financial support due from parents to children who do not live with both their parents. It argues that the scheme follows developments in America and Australia, and marks a change from previous policy towards lone parents in the UK. The parental obligation to share income with children living elsewhere is redefined as beyond dispute with respect to liability and amount, both of which become subject to clear rules administered through a semi-privatized agency. The courts are in the main excluded, with a very limited role for marginal cases and appeals on points of law.

This article addresses the issue of overcoming writing difficulties in the alphabetic period. Writing is a complicated activity that relies on the student’s motor development. Movement coordination appears only through permanent repetitions and develops gradually as the child grows. A lack of coordination is visible during the reading-writing period. These problems can manifest in a different way. Thus, from a bodily point of view, the phenomenon of clumsiness, poor coordination, twitching, poorly integrated body schema/laterality, a negative self-image, psychomotor problems appear. From a relational point of view, there are communication and contact difficulties, inhibition, instability, aggressiveness, concentration problems. The correct methodological approach to this activity allows overcoming writing difficulties.

When looking for a location for a wave energy converter (WEC) installation, developers usually look for sites with high or very high wave energy resource. From this perspective, countries like Scotland or Ireland have made great effort to include this energy source in their energy mix due to their expected high untapped potential. However, higher resource carries marine operation restrictions. Because of that, the selection of a site for a WEC deployment, the installation, operation and maintenance factors have to be considered from the beginning. In this work an analysis of the suitable locations for the development of wave energy is performed based on the operation and maintenance (O&M) parameters. This study is performed across the globe coastlines taking the met-ocean climate data from Reguero et al (2011) global reanalysis database (GOW) developed at IH Cantabria. Firstly, an analysis of the global availability and accessibility levels is performed all around the globe taking different wave height thresholds into account. Seven specific locations (North-West Denmark, West of Ireland, Chile, North of Spain, West Portugal, South-West Australia and North of Scotland) with high interest on wave energy have been further analyzed and compared. Secondly, the O&M access limits are quantified in terms of the weather windows and the waiting period between available weather windows. A statistical analysis of these parameters is performed within different weather windows lengths (6 h, 12 h and 24 h). The seasonality of these parameters is also analyzed. Finally, a failure analysis will be carried out, simulating the repair operation along the lifecycle of the device for different failure rates and waiting times. The affection of this failure and repair scheme over the power production of a device analyzed previously in Andres et al (2014) will be presented. In this study, some locations with high resource (Spain, Nova Scotia) lead to medium to high accessibilities/availabilities due to the balance between resource and persistence of the weather conditions. Some locations with high resource such as Chile or Australia resulted inaccessible during very long periods of time due to the persistence of severe conditions and then not very recommended for novel converters with uncertain failure rates.

In most of the countries, energy efficiency has been delegated to the dynamics of real estate markets, after regulating a minimum legal (although not optimal) efficiency level. So, it is expected that high efficient housing stock receives a market premium that, at least, equals the over-cost invested in improved thermal insulation and more efficient appliances. Theoretically, under such a mechanism developers are fostered to promote sustainable housing schemes. Nonetheless, the question of whether residential users do pay more for more sustainable housing remains to be explored in emergent markets where green labelling is still not legally implemented. This paper explores the impact of energetic efficiency of housing on demand’s willingness to pay in Santiago de Chile. In doing so a contingent valuation approach is used in order to extract the structure of preferences for different levels of energetic efficiency for the residential market of houses. Results reveal that a significant proportion of respondents are willing to pay (WTP) a quantity that surpasses the cost of green investment. The results of a regression model aimed to explain the factors that lay behind WTP suggest that it is positively influenced by: income level (indirectly measured by the price range of the requested house), educational level and demographics, being households with small children who pay the most. These results have important implications on the design of public policies aimed to improve the energetic efficiency of new housing developments.

Skilled professionals work implicitly. Even in the field of childcare, childcare education is said to be an invisible educational method, and the ability to perform the action is implicit. A previous study on experts in educational settings (Leinhardt & Smith, 1998) found that, compared to beginners, experts have a more elaborate and structured schema for educational content, and use fixed procedures and routines for educational methods. It has been clarified that there is a complex integration of teaching materials and techniques, and that there is complexity in knowledge. In addition, prior research on decision-making (Shavelon & Stern, 1981) has revealed that there are many procedures and strategies, but few goals. However, the content of proficiency in childcare professional development is not clearly indicated. This time, by structuring knowledge in a goal-oriented manner, we planned research to clarify each action of beginners and experts, and to search for tacit knowledge by structuring it in a certain way. Subjects: Two childcare workers with 2 years and 31 years of childcare experience who work at a free daycare kindergarten in B City, A Prefecture. Step 1: A 40-minute interview was conducted individually with each child in a conference room in the nursery school. First, we asked the question, ``What would you do for <do free daycare on a rainy day?> We proceeded with the interview while asking them to decide the subject of the action, the order of action, and so on. Step 2: Each piece of knowledge used to achieve a goal was purpose-oriented and structured using a method developed by Nishimura et al. (Nishimura et al., 2013).[Results] By clarifying each action of childcare and structuring it in a goal-oriented manner, we were able to visualize strategies for achieving the goals of both beginner and expert. The beginner mentioned concrete methods. On the other hand, the structured knowledge of experts covered a wide range of areas of childcare, such as child assessment, how to deal with troubles, how to deal with parents, and kindergarten policies. It was thought that the knowledge of expert was wide and abundant. On the other hand, beginner was limited to specific childcare methods and temporary problem-solving methods. Expert are thought to integrate knowledge and procedural knowledge that they have acquired from past experience and adopt strategies to achieve their goals in a procedural manner. It is speculated that the strategy for problem solving is being elaborated in this. On the other hand, it was beginner tended to search for and implement concrete solutions to the problems in front of them. Previous studies have suggested the following. Beginners follow the superficial similarities of problems, but experts focus on the structural features of problems and use analogies effectively (Novick, 1988). Experts approach problems in a qualitatively different way than beginners Solving (Chi et al., 1988). Experts reason forward from the information given in the problem, whereas novices reason backwards (Patel & Groen, 1986). The present results are consistent with the suggestions of those previous studies.

The Energy Savings Insurance Program seeks to promote investment in energy efficiency and distributed generation in Latin America, primarily through small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It focuses on developing an innovative scheme of guaranteed energy performance that mitigates project risk and generates investor confidence (ESI Model). The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) facilitates the development of the ESI Program in alliance with the National Development Banks (NDBs). The ESI Model includes a contract for the supply, installation, and maintenance of equipment for generating a stipulated amount of energy or energy savings over a specific time period; validation by an independent body; insurance coverage that backs the savings or the guaranteed energy generation; and project financing. This paper describes the main attributes of the ESI Model (the contract, the insurance, validation and financing), evaluates market potential and the most attractive technologies, and identifies the priority sectors for implementing projects in Chile. The most promising economic sectors were found to be the hospitality industry, food processing industry, grape growing/wine production, and the fishing industry, and the technologies of electric motors, boilers, air conditioning systems and photovoltaic solar generation. In each of these sectors, estimates were made of financing requirements as well as CO2 emission reductions that could be achieved.

The purpose of this document is to present a brief summary of the economic instruments in use for solid waste management in the region and to present two case studies of such use in Chile. These case studies refer to the industrial organization for the collection and disposal of residential solid waste in the city of Santiago and the development of a collection and recycling scheme in the Municipality of La Reina, in Santiago. This document presents, as a frame of reference based on the available bibliography, the main aspects related to the reality of solid waste management in Latin America. On this basis, we comment on the economic instruments that could theoretically be used to improve the usual problems of low coverage, poor service quality, pollution, etc., currently being observed in the region.

International organizations most often recommend a virtual one stop shop such as the Single Window for Foreign Trade (Spanish acronym: VUCE). This model is undoubtedly the most successful scheme available. This paper presents the general framework for trade facilitation and shows how VUCEs have triggered a new perspective of cohesiveness as countries seek to facilitate trade and influence competitiveness indexes. In addition, it assesses the current situation in countries of the Americas that are starting to or have already taken the first steps in developing a VUCE, such as Costa Rica, Colombia, Mexico, and Chile, and discusses the conditions required to implement a VUCE with the understanding that there is more than one possible model of implementation and every government must choose one that is suitable to its own institutional structure and technological progress. This paper was presented at the Fifth Americas Competiveness Forum for the Inter-American Development Bank and Compete Caribbean Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, October 5-7, 2011.

Many developing economies have seen a rise in e-commerce activity within their borders, and a decline in income from traditional industries as a result of COVID-19, meaning the digital economy offers a potentially unexploited source of tax revenue. . As a result, more developing countries may soon begin adopting some sort of digital tax. The economic activities which may be subject to the Digital Services Tax (DST) may vary from country to country. It will, therefore, be necessary for businesses operating in multiple jurisdictions across developing countries to keep up with the changes in digital taxes. Before implementing a DST scheme, developing countries are advised to perform an in-depth cost-benefit analysis and due considerations. Some developing (and several developed) countries have already unilaterally implemented a “provisional” DST system. Other developing countries are on the process of implementing DST or have simply announced that they will implement a DST soon. Although most of the countries so far actively working on DST (are rich countries, a growing list of developing countries are joining the process. Some examples include the following: Malaysia, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Argentina and, Chile. It is important to mention that the literature on DST is very limited – although growing, and the evidence base around the economic impacts is particularly scarce. This is partly due to the quite recent nature of DST implementation. The evidence is even scarcer for developing countries – Due to these limitations, this rapid evidence review looks at different types of available literature – including reports and blogs issued by international financial institutions and development agencies. The rest of the report will give an overview of key proposed approaches to tax the digital economy, provide a very brief account of the economic impact of DST, provide a brief mapping of the implementation of digital service taxes in developing countries, provide a brief description of each DST system and about the economic impact of the DST, finally a brief account or attributes of a “good” DST system.
