Heme oxygenases (HOs) have a major role in phytochrome chromophore biosynthesis, and chromophores in turn have anti-oxidant properties. Plant heme oxygenases are divided into the HO1 sub-family comprising HO1, HO3, and HO4, and the HO2 sub-family, which consists of 1 member, HO2. This study identified and characterized 4 heme oxygenase members from Sorghum bicolor. Multiple sequence alignments showed that the heme oxygenase signature motif (QAFICHFYNI/V) is conserved across all SbHO proteins and that they share above 90% sequence identity with other cereals. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction revealed that SbHO genes were expressed in leaves, stems, and roots, but most importantly their transcript level was induced by osmotic stress, indicating that they might play a role in stress responses. These findings will strengthen our understanding of the role of heme oxygenases in plant stress responses and may contribute to the development of stress tolerant crops.

With the increase of portable power sources demand, new technologies, e.g. wearable and flexible electronics, are projected to generate $1.25 billion market by 2022.[1] New storage energy devices are more than ever in demand which requires new specifications in order to be used in those future applications. To achieve this development, we have to minimize the environmental impact in the whole battery life cycle, from conception to degradation of the system, and reduce production costs. Polymer hydrogel electrolyte are one of the promising alternative for processing new flexible batteries.[2] A great hydrogel electrolyte should promise excellent ionic transport pathways and sufficient mechanical strength, not to cause short-circuits. As a matter of fact, hydrogel electrolytes are well-known for their good ionic conductivity. Nevertheless, the original polymers used in these systems don’t take into account the cost of the environmental impact and safety due to the processing or biodegradability of those hydrogels.[3] In this study, we report a new hydrogel-based electrolyte material made by apple pectin. This presentation will mainly focus on the interactions between pectin functional groups, water and ions using solid NMR spectroscopy. Thermal properties will be discussed based on differential scanning calorimetry analysis. Electrical and electrochemical characterisctics obtained by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, galvanostatic cycling and cyclic voltametry will demonstrate the applicability of such hydrogel electrolyte. This study could promote a great innovation in the energy storage field, by recycling one of apple peel’s component (which is the main waste in preserves manufacturing[4]) into a hydrogel electrolyte. Lipset (1960) denotes legitimacy as “the capacity of the system to engender and maintain the belief that the existing political institutions are the most appropriate ones for the society.” All political powers, including Chinese dynasties in history, needed legitimacy to ensure their governance. In general, Western thinkers who discuss political legitimacy could be identified into two groups (Habermas, 1979). The “empiricists”, likes Max Weber, studies legitimacy in an empirical method, focusing on the types, constitutions, functions, and evolutions of legitimacy. The second group consists of “normativists”, such as Plato and John Rawls, who tend to base legitimacy on various normative values such as justice or democracy. Pre-modern Chinese views on political legitimacy have the similar approaches like west. The first one pays attention to different empirical factors of legitimacy. For instance, the pre-Qin philosopher Zou Yan (305-240 BCE), and Western Han thinker Liu Xin (50 BCE-23 CE) view a dynasty’s legitimate by its adoption of rightful dynastic phase (Wang 2006). The Song Dynasty (960–1279) historian Ouyang Xiu (1007-1072) argues that the just position and the unification of China make a legitimate dynasty (Rao 1996). The second approach bases legitimacy on normative values. For example, Confucius (551-479 BCE) indicates that the rightfulness of a ruler relies on his properly practicing both “benevolence” (ren ), and “rites” (li ). Many present scholars give us their studies on the legitimacy in Chinese history. For instance, Rao Zong (1996) provides the general overviews of legitimacy in the Chinese tradition, with an extensive collection of relevant primary sources. Hou Deren (2009) introduces most relevant present-day Chinese studies on that issue. For English readers, general studies of traditional Chinese views on legitimacy can be found in the writings of Hok-lam Chan (1984) and Richard Davis (1983). Nevertheless, it is notable that the question of legitimacy became pressing from the 13th century onwards in China, when China was ruled by non-Chinese ruling houses, such as the Yuan Dynasty 元 (1272-1368) and Qing Dynasty (1889-1912). Scholars during that period showed a great interest in discussing the question of what makes a legitimate ruler of China. In general, these scholars approached that question in two ways; they introduced the prevailing Neo-Confucianism to define the virtuous rule as the principal value of legitimacy (Bol, 2009), or they defined a Chinese ruled dynasty as legitimate. To reveal these scholars’ distinct views on legitimacy, this paper investigates two of them, the Yuan literatus Yang Weizhen (1296-1370) and the Ming (1368-1644) scholar-official Fang Xiaoru (1357-1402). For English readers, only Richard Davis (1983) gives a brief introduction on Yang Weizhen’s views on legitimacy. Few studies focus on Fang Xiaoru’s relevant views. Following the text analysis way, this article proves that Yang Weizhen and Fang Xiaoru acted as two representatives of scholars in the late imperial China. Both of them adopted Neo-Confucianism to discuss legitimacy, viewing the discussion of legitimacy as a moral evaluation of the dynasty and monarch. They also shared the idea that Chinese ruled dynasty should be viewed as legitimate.

Abstract Background: MET amplification (METamp) occurs in 1-5% of treatment-naïve or 5-20% of epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors-treated lung cancers (LC). It is a promising therapeutic target in LC. Although fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), next-generation sequencing (NGS), and immunohistochemical staining (IHC) are available for METamp detection, but the most appropriate detection method and criteria for defining METamp are uncertain. Here, we explored the concordance of these three methods in informing METamp status and identified patients likely to benefit from MET inhibitors. Methods: Tissue samples from LC patients who underwent MET detection by FISH, NGS, and IHC tests at Shanghai Chest Hospital were retrospectively collected. MET focal amplification and polysomy by FISH were determined as MET/CEP7 ratio ≥ 2, and < 2 with the average MET signals per cell ≥ 5, respectively. NGS-based MET focal amplification and polysomy were determined with in-house scripts (Burning Rock Biotech). Focal amplification and polysomy were defined as METamp-positive. IHC-based MET positive was determined with H-score ≥ 200. FISH was used as a reference. Results: A total of 231 patients with a median age of 65 years were enrolled. With FISH as reference testing, NGS detection for METamp showed 66.9% (87/130) sensitivity and 95.1% sensitivity (96/101), and IHC had 71.5% (93/130) sensitivity and 91.1% (92/101) specificity. Furthermore, NGS detection for MET focal amplification achieved 87.2% (75/86) sensitivity and 96.6% (140/145) specificity, while MET polysomy detection showed 20.5% (9/44) sensitivity and 98.4% (184/187) specificity. Of 153 treatment-naïve patients, patients with focal amplification (FISH: 16.7%; NGS: 16.3%) had a significantly lower frequency of classic LC oncogene alterations than those with polysomy (FISH: 51.6%, p = 0.001; NGS: 58.3%, p = 0.006) and METamp-negative patients (METneg; FISH: 72.1%, p < 0.001; NGS: 64.1%, p < 0.001). A total of 27 patients had follow-up data. The disease control rate (DCR) to MET inhibitors was 73.1% (19/26) for overall METamp, 81.0% (17/21) for focal amplification, and 40.0% (2/5) for polysomy using FISH results. In contrast, corresponding DCRs using NGS results were 84.2% (16/19), 88.9% (16/18), and 0% (0/1), respectively. Moreover, patients with NGS-based focal amplification had a significantly longer progression-free survival (PFS) than those with polysomy or METneg. Of note, 1 patient with METneg by FISH was determined to harbor focal amplification by NGS and achieved partial response to crizotinib with a PFS of 314 days. Conclusion: Our results suggest that MET focal amplification leads to oncogenic MET addiction and is associated with promising efficacy of MET inhibitors. MET focal amplification by NGS tests might be a feasible and powerful biomarker to identify LC patients who benefit from MET inhibitors. AbstractIn February through June 2011, Hubei Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and Suizhou Museum excavated Yejiashan Cemetery of the Western Zhou Dynasty. The excavation uncovered areas of 3700sq m in total, from which 65 tombs and one horse pit were recovered and over 700 pieces (or sets) of artifacts including bronzes, potteries, proto-porcelain wares and jades were unearthed. Some bronzes bore inscriptions of “Zeng 曾”, “Hou 侯 (marquis)”, “Zeng Hou 曾侯 (Marquis of Zeng)”, “Zeng Hou Jian 曾侯谏 (Marquis of Zeng named Jian)” and so on. The styles of the grave goods and the inscriptions on the bronzes showed that this cemetery was the family cemetery of the Marquis of Zeng in the early Western Zhou Dynasty. The excavation of the Yejiashan Cemetery has academic significances for the researches on the relationships between the Zeng and E States and Zeng and Chu States to the east of the Han River in the early Western Zhou Dynasty.

The major result provides necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a unique ‘single-exit' chain with a specified invariant measure. On June 7th 2014 (Saturday), the 17th Annual Conference of the Physical Society of Hong Kong (PSHK), was hosted by the Department of Physics of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). It was jointly organized by the Departments of Physics of six local universities (HKBU, CityU, CUHK, PolyU, HKUST, HKU), and was successfully held in the Tsang Chan Sik Yue Auditorium (and other second floor classrooms) of the Academic & Administration Building. The five themes of this conference are: (1) Metamaterials for Wave Manipulation; (2) Energy Materials and Devices; (3) Condensed Matter Physics; (4) Theoretical Physics and Astronomy; (5) Interdisciplinary Topics. Three internationally prestigious researchers, Prof. Ching W. Tang, Prof. Ping Sheng, and Prof. Henry Tye, were invited to give plenary talks, which were quite inspiring. Together with seventeen invited talks, forty contributed talks, and thirty-three posters, the Saturday event has attracted a total of more than one hundred participants consisting of local and overseas scholars and students. At the end of this conference, four Best Student Poster Awards were given to Chang Shuai (CUHK), Zhenghui Wu (HKBU), Shen Chan (HKUST), and Jiajun Zhang (CUHK). This important annual conference of PSHK will again be hosted by the Department of Physics at PolyU in the year 2015.

The proper meshing design of rotundity-datum-aperture Hy-Vo silent chain and involute sprockets is of vital importance to ensure the favourable transmission properties of the system consisting of the silent chain and involute sprockets. Based on the study of the meshing theory of rotundity-datum-aperture Hy-Vo silent chain and involute sprockets and the rolling cutting theory between sprocket and hob, the meshing design system is built among rotundity-datum-aperture Hy-Vo silent chain, sprocket, and hob, and the resolved expressions are put forward, which may instruct meshing design and calculation of Hy-Vo silent chain and sprocket. The paper also discusses the variation of the equivalent side-heart distance and the effect of the sprocket pressure angle on the meshing between Hy-Vo silent chain and sprocket. The application in real engineering proves that the new design method is scientific and feasible.

This study aims to develop a comprehensive integrated model which helps in explaining the impact of value chain integration’s (VCI)’s and relational capability impact on co-innovation in a network and competitive advantage. It also explores the role of value network-based co-innovation as a mediator in the relationship between supply chain integration and competitive advantage, and in the relationship between relational capabilities and competitive advantage of a housing bank sector. The study suggests that firm gains competitive advantage by utilizing value chain integration and relational capability. It is argued here that co-innovation based on value network has mediating role to create competitive advantage. The paper provides a discussion and implication on where value lies and how value is co-created in network of interdependent relationship and illustrate this by sketching a value map in network relationship and possible innovations that can be co-created in housing bank ecosystem. The study involved a single government owned bank located in different cities, therefore the results should be generalized cautiously. This paper constitutes an attempt to stimulate efforts and provide directions on the further conceptual development of value network-based co-innovation (VNBC). The newly developed measure of VNBC and CA exempt from past conceptual streams of the determinant of CA, could be used for valid measurements in future empirical studies in the field of strategic management. The paper provides a practical implications for managers to identify value and utilize new way of analyzing value-chain to create co-innovation within housing bank ecosystem. It also allows manager to practicing relational capability which gives the most impact to competitive advantage..

Abstract. Development of an airborne instrument for the determination of peroxy radicals (PeRCEAS – peroxy radical chemical enhancement and absorption spectroscopy) is reported. Ambient peroxy radicals (HO2 and RO2, R being an organic chain) are converted to NO2 in a reactor using a chain reaction involving NO and CO. Provided that the amplification factor, called effective chain length (eCL), is known, the concentration of NO2 can be used as a proxy for the peroxy radical concentration in the sampled air. The eCL depends on radical surface losses and must thus be determined experimentally for each individual setup. NO2 is detected by continuous-wave cavity ring-down spectroscopy (cw-CRDS) using an extended cavity diode laser (ECDL) at 408.9 nm. Optical feedback from a V-shaped resonator maximizes transmission and allows for a simple detector setup. CRDS directly yields absorption coefficients, thus providing NO2 concentrations without additional calibration. The optimum 1σ detection limit is 0.3 ppbv at an averaging time of 40 s and an inlet pressure of 300 hPa. Effective chain lengths were determined for HO2 and CH3O2 at different inlet pressures. The 1σ detection limit at an inlet pressure of 300 hPa for HO2 is 3 pptv for an averaging time of 120 s.

XI Khan of Kyrgyzstan: Kurmanbek Bakiyev, Family Rule and Heroization of the PastThe aim of the article is to highlight mechanisms of the construction of the national past. The precommunist and communist times, the period of independence and the events of March 2005 were used to design the narration on the almost mythical heroism of current authorities and their predecessors. The paper also attempts to reveal strategies of legitimization through the commemoration of the Tulip revolution.Additionally, it tries to reconstruct and critically comment upon main arguments used in public speeches by the head of state, by his family and ideologues of the regime. The aim, however, is not to present the coherent structure of official thinking similar to ideology. Ambiguities, inconsistencies and ad hoc reactions constituted very important part of the regime’s official rhetoric. That is why the paper emphasizes strong tension between authoritarian and democratic strands of official discourse used accordingly to the ever-changing context in which Bakiyev’s regime operated.

It is a stylized fact that the Italian farmers do not benefit of casual structure along value chain. Conversely, retailers could advantage of any positive shock price changes occurred in the wholesale supply chain. We investigate the presence of shock price vertical contagion in the Italian hog market, describing the dependence structure along the supply chain and assessing the degree of extreme value dependence. The approach followed is non linear and copula-based, applied on weekly data of hog price changes referred to Italian farm, wholesale and retail branch chain, over the period 1994-2015. In particular, the objective of the analysis consists in to obtain a measure of the relationship between extreme events of returns, estimating the tail dependence coefficients of copula functions involved in the analysis. The empirical findings highlight the asymmetry of price transmission along the hog Italian supply chain, more relevant for wholesale–retail pair.

This article aims to analyze the impact of regional economic integration on agricultural production risk in the case study of banana value chain in Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province, one of the provinces located on East-West economic corridor. The article utilises methods of value chain analysis that is mainly based on descriptive statistical analysis, combining with qualitative and quantitative analysis to describe the structure, mechanism of operation and the creation of values. The research results indicate that the bananas are consumed in both the domestic and abroad market, namely: 80% of Huong Hoa banana is consumed in the Chinese market, and 5% is exported to the Thailand market and the 15% remaining is for the domestic market. Banana farmers are the agents holding the highest financial position on all three indicators of cost, marginal revenue and profit, but the least of benefit in channels in all three markets: China, Thailand and domestic market. The study also points out that the highly dependent degree of Chinese market is one of the main factors creating instability and unsustainability of the banana value chain in Huong Hoa district in the long-term. This article highlights the risks of agricultural products (cases of bananas) under the regional economic integration process.

Many real-world applications, such as Supply Chain Management (SCM), can be modeled using multi-agent systems. One shortcoming of current SCM models is that their trust models are ad hoc and do not have a strong theoretical basis. We propose a trust model for SCM that is grounded in probabilistic game theory. In this model, trust can be gained through direct interactions, and/or by asking for information from other trustworthy agents. We will use this model to simulate and study supply chain market behavior.
