Abstract Whenever possible electroplating is the most preferred method of metallizing interconnects and devices in electronics. It delivers metals and alloys with their physical and chemical properties closest to the ideally attainable level. To do so the-state-of-the-art electroplating processes in electronics rely entirely on making direct contact of the power supply to the electroplated part. This is done either by having a heavier gauge clamp attached to one end of the object to be plated or with a, sometime intricate, conductive path or seed layer capable of delivering adequate electroplating polarization to the electroplated parts of the pattern. In most instances that type of direct link to the power supply presents a nuisance, forcing the designer of electronics to cope with the introduction of non-functional patterns, such as seed layers, taking space from the precious real-estate of the electronic substrate. Therefore, it is desirable to have an efficient way to enable metallization of isolated electronic patterns by electroplating, without sacrificing the substrate real-estate for establishing direct contact to the power supply. More recently a novel and potentially practical approach was introduced by ECSI Fibrotools. This process is the subject of this article. By applying the Contact Electroplating Technology (CET), US Patent #10,184,189, with up to several million electrical contacts per square inch, each isolated structure is simultaneously contacted and charged by the main power supply via the CET's working electrode. CET technique has been demonstrated with actual patterned structures of various substrates such as PWB surface finishing, flexible electronics, and various small electronic devices. CET technology enables completing or upgrading the electronic structures by electroplating of pure metal or alloy of desired thickness up to 10 microns or thicker if needed. Electroplating occurs directly on thin seed layer, laser ablated, or toner drawn patterns enabling well-defined metal plating. Completely isolated electronic interconnects were uniformly electroplated for surface finishing with Cu, Ni, Ag and Au.

Cet article explore le développement d’une communauté professionnelle de design au Canada pendant les années 1950 et 1960 en examinant deux collaborations entre graphistes : les expositions canadiennes Typography (1958–1964) et l’exposition internationale Typomundus 20 (1963–1966). Celles-ci contribuèrent à la publicisation d’un nouveau discours qui permit aux typographes et aux concepteurs de la communication canadiens de se penser comme faisant partie d’une communauté unifiée et distincte de « graphistes ». Elles encouragèrent cette cohésion professionnelle notamment en avançant des normes professionnelles, en lançant une réflexion sur le statut et le rôle du graphisme par rapport au « grand » art, à la communication de masse et à la société en général, et en facilitant l’échange d’idées entre les professionnels canadiens et la communauté internationale de graphistes.

Cet article entend décrypter quelques réalisations du duo Heung-Heung Chin, alias Chippy, la designer graphique de Tzadik, et John Zorn, le musicien, compositeur et fondateur de la célèbre maison de disques. Tous deux croient au rôle déterminant du disque – à la fois comme support physique et vecteur esthétique – dans l’expérience musicale. L’esprit d’expérimentation caractéristique de la philosophie de Zorn trouve écho dans l’approche graphique de Chippy. La collection Archival Series, dédiée à l’oeuvre de Zorn, ne propose pas des supports musicaux banalement emballés, mais plutôt des objets multisensoriels – à écouter, à toucher, à lire et à contempler. L’écrin est inscrit dans la continuité conceptuelle et esthétique du contenu. Après le récit du parcours de la graphiste, de sa rencontre avec Zorn et de leur collaboration débutée il y a maintenant plus de 15 ans, nous procédons à une analyse graphique de quelques albums de cette collection.

Les professionnels ont par définition un public bénéficiaire de leurs services : le patient pour le médecin, le psychologue ou l’infirmière ; le client pour l’avocat ; le consommateur pour le gestionnaire d’une entreprise commerciale ; etc. L’usager ou l’habitant du cadre bâti constitue un des destinataires des services professionnels du designer d’intérieur. De quelle manière peut-on apprendre aux étudiants/futurs professionnels du design d’intérieur à se mettre à la place de l’usager/habitant des espaces qu’ils conçoivent ? Le concept de l’empathie, communément décrit comme la capacité de se mettre à la place de l’autre, de le comprendre et de ressentir ses sentiments et ses émotions, est bien adapté pour explorer cette attitude. Cet article est composé de deux parties. La première présente une expérience pédagogique en design d’intérieur où des étudiants apprennent à se représenter les usagers de leur projet d’aménagement en utilisant un outil méthodologique appelé « boussole éthique ». Cette boussole est constituée essentiellement de trois pôles qui renvoient aux trois rapports fondamentaux de l’être humain tels qu’étudiés dans la tradition stoïcienne : rapport à soi-même, à autrui et à la nature. Dans la seconde partie, l’article met en relief plusieurs éléments théoriques qui permettent de comprendre, de consolider et, éventuellement, de faire évoluer les bases conceptuelles qui sous-tendent cette démarche. Il s’agira notamment des théories éthiques et de certaines approches spécifiques au concept de l’empathie.

Janello Torriani, also known by his Spanish name Juanelo Turriano (Cremona ca. 1500–Toledo 1585), was a blacksmith, locksmith, constructor of scientific instruments, famous inventor of mechanical devices, automata-maker, clockmaker to Emperor Charles V, hydraulic engineer, mathematician, star-gazer, bell-designer, surveyor, and author of mathematical treatises to King Philip II of Spain. He was especially famous for his amazing planetary clocks, which he both designed and physically crafted (thanks to the invention of the first known machine-tool to cut gears), and for his hydraulic device of Toledo, the first giant machine in history that elevated water over a slope of ninety metres a distance of three hundred meters. Given this multifaceted professional profile, Torriani has been considered a Renaissance polymath and a genius. This article goes beyond the anachronistic understanding of these two categories, which it deconstructs, by analyzing Torriani’s education and the context of the mathematical professions during the sixteenth century. Il est surtout connu pour ses étonnantes horloges astronomiques qu’il a à la fois conçues et construites (grâce à l’invention des premières machines à couper les engrenages), et pour ses dispositifs hydrauliques de Tolède, dont la toute première machine permettant d’amener de l’eau vers le haut d’une pente sur une distance de 300 mètres. Pour ses multiples compétences professionnelles, Torriani est considéré comme un véritable polymathe et un génie de la Renaissance. In the Netherlands what is called the Modern Socio-Technical School — an approach to integral organizational renewal — is well developed. This theory of practice is mainly concerned with design of organizational structures, which leads to an important point of criticism: the Dutch approach is an expert driven form of social engineering, lacking an effective, process-oriented intervention strategy. The approach does not know how to deal with power in organizations. Here we do not accept that this criticism is an inevitable characteristic of the Dutch approach. The criticism is used as a trigger to search for the contours of a process-directed intervention strategy, which fit in the design theory.

Abstract Taste of a pharmaceutical formulation is an important parameter for the effectiveness of pharmacotherapy. Cetirizine dihydrochloride (CET) is a second-generation antihistamine that is commonly administered in allergy treatment. CET is characterized by extremely bitter taste and it is a great challenge to successfully mask its taste; therefore the goal of this work was to formulate and characterize the microparticles obtained by the spray drying method with CET and poly(butyl methacrylate-co-(2-dimethylaminoethyl) methacrylate-co-methyl methacrylate 1:2:1 copolymer (Eudragit E PO) as a barrier coating. Assessment of taste masking by the electronic tongue has revealed that designed formulations created an effective taste masking barrier. Taste masking effect was also confirmed by the in vivo model and the in vitro release profile of CET. Obtained data have shown that microparticles with a drug/polymer ratio (0.5:1) are promising CET carriers with efficient taste masking potential and might be further used in designing orodispersible dosage forms with CET.

This paper studies the Columnar to Equiaxed Transition (CET) in an Al-7wt%Si binary alloy with and without Al-Ti-B grain refiner. A microgravity experiment was designed to produce a CET in this alloy system. The experiment was flown onboard the MAXUS-7 sounding rocket platform, which achieved twelve minutes of microgravity. Examples of CET were successfully produced during the unmanned flight. Temperature data were recorded from thermocouples in the crucible walls of the furnace. Post-mortem material characterization of the grain structure was also performed. Subsequently a model of the furnace, which used a front-tracking model of solidification and an inverse heat calculation method, was developed. In this paper, results from the model are compared to the experimental findings; agreement is found with the CET predictions. The results from the model are then used to compare findings with the CET criterion of Hunt from the literature. Agreement is found between the model predictions and the Hunt criterion.

This article focuses upon a new preventive approach designed to improve personal stress management skills. The Coping Enhancement Training (CET) is derived from the Couples Coping Enhancement Training (CCET) and encompasses both an individual and a dyadic aspect. In this study, only the individual element is described. The training is based upon the transactional stress concepts of Lazarus and his coworkers and the further development of this approach by Perrez and Reicherts (1992). Personal coping skills are practiced over a six-hour period by means of theoretical, diagnostic and practical work. This article presents the rationale and content of the program, as well as data concerning the effectiveness of this approach after a period of two years. The data shows that subjects participating in the program displayed better individual coping skills (e.g. active problem-solving and positive self-verbalization) after the training and that they relied upon dysfunctional coping strategies (e.g. rumination and blaming strategies) less often even after two years.

Single-storey industrial steel frames with crances are considered as being vertically irregular in structural configuration and load distribution under strong earthquake excitations. In this paper, various analytical frames with their spans of 20, 26, 32 and 38 m and locations built in Ha Noi and Son La regions were designed to resist dead, roof live, crane and wind loads. The equivalent horizontal and vertical static earthquake loads applied on the frames were determined. Next, by using linear elastic analyses of structures, the effects of vertical seismic actions on the responses of the frames were evaluated in terms of the ratios K1 and K2 at the bottom and top of the columns corresponding to different combinations of dead loads and static earthquake loads, as denoted by CE1, CE2 and CE3. The effects of seismic actions compared with those of wind actions were also evaluated in terms of the ratios K3 and K4. As a result, the effects of vertical seismic actions were significant and increased with the span lengths of the frames. In addition, by using nonlinear inelastic analyses of structures, the levels of the static earthquake loads were determined corresponding to the first yielding and maximum resistances of the frames. 515 Background: The FIRE-3 study (AIO KRK-0306) was designed to compare the efficacy of FOLFIRI + cetuximab (cet) to FOLFIRI + bevacizumab (bev) as first-line treatment in KRAS WT mCRC patients. FOLFIRI plus cet resulted in comparable overall response rates (ORR) and progression free survival (PFS) when compared to FOLFIRI + bev. Overall survival (OS) was significantly longer in the FOLFIRI + cet arm. Methods: In an exploratory subgroup analysis, patients pretreated with adjuvant chemotherapy were analyzed by Fisher's exact and log rank-test according to tumor response (ORR) and survival data. Patients of the ITT (n=592) and the final RAS wild-type population (n=400) were investigated. Results: See table. Conclusions: Results in patients treated with any adjuvant chemotherapy mirrored those in the whole study population. In adjuvant pretreated RASwt patients a significantly higher ORR was reached in the cet arm when compared to the bev arm (p=0.01). Designers and architects created the rule ‘form follows function (FFF)’ for their own profession. Our paper demonstrates that this FFF rule applies equally well to the designers of clinical studies. Four examples present are as follows: disregarding this FFF rule causes an inconsistent terminology to differentiate between efficacy and effectiveness, inconsistent differentiation of efficacy and effectiveness interferes with the consistent interpretation of the results of clinical studies, inconsistent interpretation of clinical studies results in an unexpectedly variance of recommendations in clinical guidelines and the fusion of the FFF designer rule and of the demands of Cochrane and Bradford Hill (‘can it work?’, ‘does it work?’ and ‘is it worth it?’) avoids the terminology problem and its misleading consequences. There are different ways to deliver Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), of which in-person (face to face) is the traditional delivery method. However, the scalability of in-person therapy is low. Digital Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (dCBT-I) is an alternative and there are tools on the market that are validated in clinical studies. In this paper, we provide a review of the existing evidence-based CBT-I apps and a summary of the published usability-oriented studies of these apps. The goal is to explore the range of interaction methods commonly applied in dCBT-I platforms, the potential impact for the users, and the design elements applied to achieve engagement. Six commercially available CBT-I apps tested by scientifically valid methods were accessed and reviewed. Commonalities were identified and categorized into interactive elements, CBT-I-related components, managerial features, and supportive motivational features. The dCBT-I apps were effectively assisting the users, and the type of interactions promoted engagement. The apps’ features were based on design principles from interactive product design, experience design, online social media, and serious gaming. This study contributes to the field by providing a critical summary of the existing dCBT-I apps that could guide future developers in the field to achieve a high engagement.

806 Background: The optimum duration of first-line treatment with chemotherapy in combination with cetuximab (CET) in patients with RAS wild-type (wt) advanced colorectal cancer (ACRC) is unknown. The current study was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of maintenance treatment (MT) with capecitabine (CAP) plus CET in ACRC. Methods: The trial was conducted at Department of Oncology, Tongji Hospital, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China. We included patients with previously untreated RAS wt ACRC, with stable disease or better after induction treatment with 4-6 months of standard fluorouracil-based chemotherapy plus CET, WHO performance status of 0 or 1. The selected patients were assigned to MT-CAP (1250mg/m2 orally twice daily on day 1-14 every 3 weeks), and CET (400 mg/m2 on day 1 of the first week, then 250 mg/m2 on day 1 every week). We assessed disease status every 6 weeks. The primary endpoint of the study was disease progression or unacceptable toxicity, defined as progression-free survival (PFS). All endpoints were calculated from the time of inclusion. Analyses were done by intention to treat. Results: From Jan. 1, 2014 to May 1, 2016, we assigned 13 patients to MT-CAP plus CET. Median follow-up time was 22 months. Median PFS was 16.7 months, and the PFS of MT was 12.1 months. MT was well tolerated, and none of the 13 patients discontinued treatment due to toxic effects. The general quality of life did not deteriorate during MT. Conclusions: MT-CAP plus CET after 4-6 months of standard chemotherapy and CET in ACRC patients was effective and did not compromise life quality. Based on these results, we launched a single arm, open-label, multi-center, Phase 2 clinical trial to investigate the efficacy and safety of MT-CAP plus CET after first-line standard fluorouracil-based chemotherapy plus CET for patients with RAS wt ACRC. The trial was registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT02717923, and approved by the Institutional Review Board of Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. In this paper, we used two empirical rock classification systems of rock mass rating (RMR) and rock quality tunnelling index (Q-system) for the support design of a tunnel in District Battagram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Along the tunnel route, the rocks of Precambrian namely Gandaf Formation, Karora Formation and Besham Complex were exposed. During the field investigations, two shear zones were marked in the schist of Karora Formation. The discontinuities parameters collected during the field investigations, results of laboratory testing and material constants determined from RocData version 5.0 software were used during the empirical classification and numerical modelling. The support was designed for the rock mass units from RMR and Q. The quantification of the thickness of plastic zone and total displacement around the tunnel were achieved by the numerical modelling of RS2 9.0 software in both unsupported and supported conditions. The empirically designed support was installed in the model prepared in the RS2 software. According to the results, the empirically designed support when installed in models prepared in RS2 significantly reduced the plastic zone around the tunnel. The reduction in the plastic zone and displacement around the tunnel verified the support design by empirical methods. The present research concludes that empirical designed support can be used for the complex geology of Pakistan.

Overall survival (OS) was significantly longer in the FOLFIRI plus cet arm. Methods: In a preplanned analysis, the effect of mutations within the EGFR dependent pathway were investigated. Next to mutations within KRAS (exon 2, 3, 4), NRAS (exon 2, 3, 4) and BRAF (V600E), mutations within PIK3CA (exon 9 and 20) and Akt were investigated and their impact on ORR, PFS and OS within the FIRE-3 population was evaluated. The analysis of all mutations was carried out employing pyrosequencing. Results: The ITT population consisted of 592 KRAS WT (exon 2) patients. The current analysis includes 488 cases (82.4%) with tumor tissue available. In 407 pts sequencing of all RAS mutations was possible. The ORR within the WT RAS patient group was higher in the FOLFIRI plus cet arm (65.5% vs 59.6%; Fisher´s p: 0.157). HRs (cet; bev) for pts with WT RASwere 0.93 (95% CI, 0.74-1.17; p = 0.54) for PFS and 0.70 (95% CI, 0.53-0.92; p = 0.01) for OS. PIK3CA mutation did not influence PFS nor OS when compared to the RAS wt population. Conclusions: ORR and OS were increased in patients with cet plus FOLFIRI as compared to bev plus FOLFIRI in patients without RAS mutations. Exclusion of patients with RAS mutations identifies a population which is more likely to benefit from cetuximab. Clinical trial information: NCT00433927.

The rising use of designer benzodiazepines (DBZD) is a cat-and-mouse game between organized crime and law enforcement. Non-prohibited benzodiazepines are introduced onto the global drug market and scheduled as rapidly as possible by international authorities. In response, DBZD are continuously modified to avoid legal sanctions and drug seizures and generally to increase the abuse potential of the DBZD. This results in an unpredictable fluctuation between the appearance and disappearance of DBZD in the illicit market. Thirty-one DBZD were considered for review after consulting the international early warning database, but only 3-hydroxyphenazepam, adinazolam, clonazolam, etizolam, deschloroetizolam, diclazepam, flualprazolam, flubromazepam, flubromazolam, meclonazepam, phenazepam and pyrazolam had sufficient data to contribute to this scoping review. A total of 49 reports describing 1 drug offense, 2 self-administration studies, 3 outpatient department admissions, 44 emergency department (ED) admissions, 63 driving under the influence of drugs (DUID) and 141 deaths reported between 2008 and 2021 are included in this study. Etizolam, flualprazolam flubromazolam and phenazepam were implicated in the majority of adverse-events, drug offenses and deaths. However, due to a general lack of knowledge of DBZD pharmacokinetics and toxicity, and due to a lack of validated analytical methods, total cases are much likely higher. Between 2019 and April 2020, DBZD were identified in 48% and 83% of postmortem and DUID cases reported to the UNODC, respectively, with flualprazolam, flubromazolam and etizolam as the most frequently detected substances. DBZD toxicology, public health risks and adverse events are reported.

International audience This paper aims at the development of innovating methods for optimum design for multidisciplinary optimization problems in the aeronautical context. The subject is the treatment of a problem of concurrent optimization in which the aerodynamicist interacts with the structural designer, in a parallel way in a symmetric Nash game. Algorithms for the calculation of the equilibrium point have been proposed and successfully tested for this coupled aero-structural shape optimization in a situation where the aerodynamical criterion is preponderant. Cet article a pour objectif le développement de méthodes numériques innovantes pour la conception optimale de forme pour les problèmes d’optimisation multidisciplinaire dans un contexte aéronautique. On cherche à traiter un problème d’optimisation concourante où le concepteur aérodynamique interagit avec le concepteur structural, parallèlement dans un jeu symétrique de Nash. On a proposé et expérimenté avec succès des algorithmes de calcul d’équilibre pour cette optimisation couplée aéro-structurale dans une situation où le critère aérodynamique est prépondérant.

International audience The UX domain has so far been strongly associated with software development. However, its methods are finding their way intodomains like Product and Service Design. Product Designers now need competencies far beyond classical form-giving. The objective of thispaper is to show Product Designers which design dimensions they need to attend to when designing for UX. The paper gives an overview ofdesign dimensions that potentially impact how users’ experience products. These dimensions are brought together from theories ofCognitive Science, models of Human-Computer Interaction and findings from Design Research. They are presented under four categories:dimensions of human perception, dimensions of products, dimensions of the context of use and the temporal dimension. In the final part, theidentified dimensions are connected into a schema, illustrating their interplay and therefore the journey of UX between a user and a product,in a certain context over a certain time. Le domaine EU (Expérience Utilisateur) a été étroitement lié au développement des logiciels. Les méthodes UX trouventcependant de plus en plus d’applications dans le Design de Produits. Aujourd’hui le Designer Produit doit mettre en oeuvre des compétencesqui vont bien au-delà de la seule définition de l’apparence. L’objet de cet article est de mettre en lumière ces dimensions du design que lesDesigners Produit soucieux de concevoir dans le respect de l’UX ne sauraient ignorer. L’article apporte ainsi une vue globale sur lesdimensions susceptibles d’impacter l’UX. L’identification des dimensions pertinentes puise à la fois dans les théories de la psychologiecognitive, dans les modèles d’interaction homme-machine, ainsi que dans les résultats de la recherche en design. Ces dimensions sontensuite regroupées sous quatre catégories : les dimensions de la perception humaine, du produit et du contexte de l’utilisation, ainsi que ladimension temporelle. This article explores the militarization of everyday life through the emergence of a dual-use technology, the Global Positioning System (GPS), in the 1990s and first decade of the twenty-first century. It was launched in April 2010 as a Web-based multimedia piece funded by a Digital Innovation Fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies. During the fellowship year and for several years afterward, author Caren Kaplan worked with programmer/designer Erik Loyer to produce a piece that would address the multiple social and political valences of GPS in a graphically dramatic but academically substantial manner. Ezra Claytan Daniels provided the artwork that illustrates Erik Loyer’s innovative digital “cube” design. Loyer and Kaplan developed the six storylines for the piece, and Kaplan wrote the text (see www.precisiontargets.com).Cet article explore la militarisation de la vie quotidienne entraînée par l’émergence dans la période 1990-2010 d’une technologie à double usage, le Système de localisation mondiale (GPS).
