Background. Countering the erosion of the tax base through the use of transfer pricing (TP) is an important element of tax policy. Ukraine is implementing three-level TP reporting and the procedure of automatic exchange of tax information. The analysis of recent research and publications has showedthat research on the use of data obtained in the exchange of tax information procedure under the CbC standard is relevant and controversial. The aim of the articleis to investigate the conditions for the introduction of automatic information exchange in Ukraine and provide recommendations for the practical use of the obtained data for tax control purposes. Results. An analysis of the structure of three-level TP reporting and the conditions of its first submission in Ukraine was performed. The procedure of automatic exchange of tax information according to the CbCR standard is considered. Based on the results of this study, a set of proposals for the use of CbC reporting data for tax administration purposes has been developed. The implementation of these proposals will help strengthen tax control and administration. Conclusion. The information received under CbCR-standard is intended for comprehensive analysis and risk identification by tax administrations and cannot be an alternative to tax audits or investigations. The obtained results can be used to build the business processes on CbC information application by the tax authorities. Further research in this direction should focus on the development of recommendations for the business process on the automatic exchange of information according to the CbCR standard establishment and the further use of the data obtained under this exchange by the tax administration.

Abstract Objectives.—To determine the success with which laboratories were able to report morning test results on time, the laboratory practice characteristics associated with improved success, and the degree of satisfaction among clinicians with the timeliness of laboratory service. Design.—Hospital laboratories participating in the College of American Pathologist Q-Probes laboratory quality improvement program prospectively calculated the percentages of morning-run complete blood cell count (CBC) and electrolyte results that were reported on or before predetermined reporting deadlines, completed questionnaires concerning their departments' practice characteristics as they related to performing morning blood work, and distributed to physician utilizers of morning laboratory services questionnaires evaluating physician satisfaction with laboratory services. Setting and Participants.—A total of 367 public and private institutions located in the United States (355), Canada (5), Australia (2), and 1 each in the United Kingdom, Spain, Brazil, Korea, and Guam. Main Outcome Measure.—The percentages of morning-run CBC and electrolyte results reported on or before predetermined reporting deadlines. Results.—Participants submitted data on 40 256 CBC and 39 604 electrolyte specimens. In aggregate, a total of 88.9% of these tests (90.2% of CBCs and 87.6% of electrolytes) were reported on or before the reporting deadlines that the participating laboratories set for themselves. Half of the participants reported 94.6% of their CBC results and 95.5% of their electrolyte results on or before their self-imposed reporting deadlines. No specific demographic features or departmental practice characteristics were associated with higher or lower rates of institutional reporting compliance. Most physician utilizers of early-morning laboratory test results believed that the laboratory is sensitive to and meets the needs of clinicians for timely reporting of early-morning test results. Conclusions.—Most laboratories are capable of reporting 95% of their routine morning laboratory tests on time, and most physicians are satisfied with their laboratories' morning testing service.

Abstract Background Interpretation of the complete blood count (CBC) parameters requires reliable biological variation (BV) data. The aims of this study were to appraise the quality of publications reporting BV data for CBC parameters by applying the BV Data Critical Appraisal Checklist (BIVAC) and to deliver global BV estimates based on BIVAC compliant studies. Methods Relevant publications were identified by a systematic literature search and evaluated for their compliance with the 14 BIVAC criteria, scored as A, B, C or D, indicating decreasing compliance. Global CVI and CVG estimates with 95% CI were delivered by a meta-analysis approach using data from BIVAC compliant papers (grades A–C). Results In total, 32 studies were identified; four received a BIVAC grade A, 2 B, 20 C and 6 D. Meta-analysis derived CVI and CVG estimates were generally lower or in line with those published in a historical BV database available online. Except for reticulocytes, CVI estimates of erythrocyte related parameters were below 3%, whereas platelet (except MPV and PDW) and leukocyte related parameters ranged from 5% to 15%. Conclusions A systematic review of CBC parameters has provided updated, global estimates of CVI and CVG that will be included in the newly published European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine BV Database.

AbstractBackground:The need to satisfy high-throughput demands for laboratory tests continues to be a challenge. Therefore, we aimed to automate postanalytical phase in hematology and coagulation laboratory by autovalidation of complete blood count (CBC) and routine coagulation test results (prothrombin time [PT], international normalized ratio [PT-INR], activated partial thromboplastin time [APTT], fibrinogen, antithrombin activity [AT] and thrombin time [TT]). Work efficacy and turnaround time (TAT) before and after implementation of automated solutions will be compared.Methods:Ordering panels tailored to specific patient populations were implemented. Rerun and reflex testing rules were set in the respective analyzers’ software (Coulter DxH Connectivity 1601, Beckman Coulter, FL, USA; AutoAssistant, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, Germany), and sample status information was transferred into the laboratory information system. To evaluate if the automation improved TAT and efficacy, data from manually verified results in September and October of 2015 were compared with the corresponding period in 2016 when autovalidation was implemented.Results:Autovalidation rates of 63% for CBC and 65% for routine coagulation test results were achieved. At the TAT of 120 min, the percentage of reported results increased substantially for all analyzed tests, being above 90% for CBC, PT, PT-INR and fibrinogen and 89% for APTT. This output was achieved with three laboratory technicians less compared with the period when the postanalytical phase was not automated.Conclusions:Automation allowed optimized laboratory workflow for specific patient populations, thereby ensuring standardized results reporting. Autovalidation of test results proved to be an efficient tool for improvement of laboratory work efficacy and TAT.

In this case report, we are reporting the case of a 68-year-old male patient who was admitted in our hospital for unintended weight loss, asthenia, and anorexia. Physical examination showed clinical signs of anemia such as pallor of skin and mucous membranes; hemodynamic parameters were normal. Complete blood count (CBC) analysis showed a pancytopenia with anemia, thrombocytopenia, and leukopenia. BM biopsy was performed, showing a malignant infiltration of bone marrow by a metastatic prostate cancer confirmed by immunohistochemistry. Prostate biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of acinar adenocarcinoma with Gleason score 8 ( 4 + 4 ), ISUP grade group 4. Our patient underwent chemical castration using LH-RH analogs in association with second-line hormone therapy by abiraterone acetate. The evolution was good on both the oncological and hematological levels.

Objectives: To find the frequency of iron deficient anemia and thalassemia in anemic patient reporting in tertiary hospital in Multan. Study Design: Cross Sectional study. Setting: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Nishtar Hospital, Multan. Period: 20th October 2018 to 20th April 2019. Material & Method: In this study total 260 females with anemia HB<10.5g/dl were incorporated. Blood of all the patients were collected following the septic measures in CBC vial for counting of hemoglobin and blood investigation serum ferritin [<11ng/ml] and HB electrophoresis HBA [>6]. Gestational age was predicted depending upon last period of menstruation. Results: Age of patients in this study was between 24 to 34 year with the average age of 29.9±2.3 year, average gestational age 33.2±2.11 week, average parity 1.46±1.3. Iron deficient anemia was observed in 88.4 percent patient. Thalassemia was observed in 5.7 percent patient. Conclusion: The results of our study revealed that iron deficiency and thalassemia are significant contributing factors of anemia in patients reporting tertiary care hospitals Multan. General screening for carriers of thalassemia should be provided to all pregnant females attending prenatal care.

Background Beginning as a local epidemic, COVID-19 has since rapidly evolved into a pandemic. As countries around the world battle this outbreak, mass media has played an active role in disseminating public health information. Objective The aim of this study was to get a better understanding of the role that the Canadian media played during the pandemic and to investigate the patterns of topics covered by media news reporting. Methods We used a data set consisting of news articles published on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) website between December 2019 and May 2020. We then used Python software to analyze the data using Latent Dirichlet Allocation topic modelling. Subsequently, we used the pyLDAvis tool to plot these topics on a 2D plane through multidimensional scaling and divided these topics into different themes. Results After removing articles that were published before the year 2019, we identified 6771 relevant news articles. According to the CV coherence value, we divided these articles into 15 topics, which were categorized into 6 themes. The three most popular themes were case reporting and testing (n=1738), Canadian response to the pandemic (n=1259), and changes to social life (n=1171), which accounted for 25.67%, 18.59%, and 17.29% of the total articles, respectively. Conclusions Understanding the Canadian media’s reporting on the COVID-19 pandemic shows that the Canadian pandemic response is a product of consistent government communication, as well as the public’s understanding of and adherence to protocols.

Congenital heart diseases are common cause of congenital cyanosis with polycythaemia. Congenital methemoglobinemia is a rare cause of lifelong cyanosis with polycythemia. Congenital methemoglobinemia is caused either by enzyme deficiency or by an abnormal Hb (Hb M). Asymptomatic despite presence of severe cyanosis indicates this rare disorder. We are reporting a rare case of polycythemia with cyanosis due to congenital methemoglobinemia. The patient was referred to our centre and attended Hematology OPD (out-patient department) when his routine CBC revealed erythrocytosis. At that time, we found him severely cyanosed especially apparent on lips, tongue, hands and feet. He was diagnosed as a case of congenital methemoglobinemia with 38% blood methemoglobin level (normal value-0.00-2.00%). On view of life long persistent cyanosis, without any cardiopulmonary and neurological abnormality, consanguinity of parent’s marriage, dark colored blood with high methemoglobin level, a final diagnosis of Type I enzyme deficiency congenital methemoglobinemia was made. He was treated with oral ascorbic acid 250 mg twice daily. At follow up after 6 months his skin color improved and RBC count returned to normal. We are reporting this case of congenital methemoglobinemia for the first time in Bangladesh to emphasize the importance of this rare entity in the differential diagnosis of asymptomatic cyanosis with polycythemia.

The University of Queensland has conducted five international field reporting courses in India and Vietnam since 2012,1 as well as three more courses based on similar work integrated learning principles (i.e., intensive, immersive and experiential) on campus at St Lucia in Brisbane during the same period. Previous research has found them to be valuable pedagogical innovations that have led to solid academic outcomes. The students themselves have also reported enjoying greater self-confidence, better reporting and technical skills, and increased employment prospects as a direct result of taking part in these courses. Some of that research is re-examined in this article but in a new light, given that the main focus here is on whether these courses in fact deliver on another important promise: to teach the core skills required of a foreign correspondent. To discover what those core skills might be, the researcher explored the extensive literature written by former and current correspondents about their experiences and their lessons learned. He also approached 12 former colleagues at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), all of whom have been high profile international reporters, correspondents and producers, and invited them to offer their unstructured reflections on this question. These insights have then been filtered and assessed through the researcher’s own reflections of working as a foreign correspondent for the ABC in London between 1984 and 1987. The results are both encouraging and challenging. They suggest that while the students and their teachers are largely satisfied with the reporting, technical and personal skills that have been taught and learned, many correspondents consider that their core attributes include extensive experience in senior reporting roles prior to heading overseas, where the basic skills have been honed to the highest degree. That, of course, is something that no undergraduate could ever claim to have achieved.

Reporting a rare case of Calvarial Cavernous Hemangioma. A 2-months-oldmale baby presented with Right Frontal swelling noticed when baby was 20days old rapidly progressive in size. On examination, it was solitary 6*7cm firm irregular swelling fixed to bone which On CT/MRI showed 6*5*4cm mixed density extra axial lesion in right frontal region with bony destruction causing mass effect and mid line shift? neoplastic. Baby had no neurological deficits. CBC showed Pancytopenia. Patient was operated under GA, total excision of the lesion and margin of surrounding eroded bone was performed. Tumor was completely extradural. Histopathology showed Bony trabeculae separated by loose fibrocollagenous tissue enclosing many endothelium lined Vascular spaces. Post operative no recurrence is observed. Cavernous Hemangioma of skull is very rare in infancy and must be included in differential diagnosis of skull lesions . Untreated Cavernous Hemangiomas may show progression. A suspected Neoplastic swelling turned out to be benign lesion. In 2015, The OECD released an 15 point action plan to combat base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS). Amongst those actions is action 13 which deals with the implementation of Country-by-Country (CbC) reporting on Multinational Enterprises (MNE). Even though South Africa is not an OECD member, it adopted the implementation by enacting CbC reporting into law in December 2016. CbC reports give an overview of how local entities fit into their large group structure of the MNE which in turn will increase the tax transparency in the jurisdictions it operates from. Therefore, CbC Reports can be a great tool for tax administrations to assess tax risk. CbC reports are exchanged electronically between tax payer and tax administration as well as between different tax administrations of the different jurisdictions, thus the use of a digitalised system is of high importance as it will ultimately lead to better tax transparency.
This approach of this work is qualitative in nature and the OECDs guidelines and corresponding sections in South Africa‘s Income Tax Act were analysed. Throughout this study South Africa and India‘s tax administrations are being compared, with recommendations drawn from the Indian tax administration. This study addresses the use of CbC Reports in the risk assessment procedure as well as the current tax risk assessment procedures in both countries. The study goes further by explaining the concept of digitalisation and then gauges the digital competence of South Africa‘s and India‘s tax administration according to an gauge set out by EY. There are numerous challenges that are a result of digitalisation of the tax administration.
The findings of study prove that South Africa has already made progress towards a digitalised tax administration however there is room for improvement. Furthermore, as the tax administration progress, CbC reports will become more effective as a risk assessment tool. Lastly, the study imparts that even with the challenges that digitalisation of the tax administration brings about, the benefit of a digital tax administration providing tax transparency will be able to overcome these challenges.Mini Dissertation (MPhil (International Taxation))--University of Pretoria, 2020.

In February 2013, the OECD published a report on its findings concerning base erosion and profit shifting ("BEPS").1 That report, in particular Action Plan 13, dealt with the re-examination of transfer pricing documentation wherein the shifting of profits to lower tax rate jurisdictions is addressed. The OECD proposed a Country-by-Country ("CbC") methodology whereby certain information is required to be disclosed within a Country-by-Country Reporting Template ("the CbC Template"). The main purpose of the CbC Template is to assist tax administrations to identify risks related to base erosion and profit shifting; also, and where applicable, data collected via the CbC Template can be used for economic and statistical analysis. The OECD is of the view that the CbC Template in assisting tax administrators to determine transfer pricing risk, will serve as a high-level risk assessment indicator for transfer pricing. Accordingly, the main aim of the CbC Template is to be a tool for tax administrators to identify and consequently ensure that the revenue of a country is not eroded unfairly. The objective of this paper is to review the CbC Template from a South African perspective and to determine the consequences for taxpayers arising from the information required to be disclosed. It follows that this paper will focus, in particular, on the challenges and consequences that exist within a South African context for a South African taxpayer conducting business in different tax jurisdictions. The paper will further analyse the CbC Template requirements in light of the legislative requirements for Transfer Pricing Documentation in South Africa.

Aujourd’hui en raison de l'augmentation rapide de la demande de transparence dans les rapports d'entreprise, les rapports de développement durable (reporting RSE) deviennent de plus en plus fréquents, et constituent un domaine important de la théorie moderne de la recherche sur les entreprises. Par conséquent, la loi française vient obliger les entreprises à inclure dans leur rapport annuel des informations sur les préoccupations environnementales et sociales. L'objectif de cette thèse est d'étudier, l'impact de la divulgation de la RSE des sociétés cotées au CAC 40 à la Bourse de Paris (Euronext), sur la performance financière de ces entreprises. Pour cela, un état de la responsabilité sociale des entreprises et du reporting social est tout d'abord présenté, grâce à la méthode d'analyse de contenu, sur la base des lignes directrices du GRI en matière de rapports de durabilité (GRI-G3.1). Puis, la performance financière est mesurée par des mesures comptables (ROA) et des mesures du marché (TBQ), qui proviennent de la base de données Datastream. Ces données quantitatives sont utilisées dans le modèle de régression des données de panel pour tester l'impact du reporting social sur le rendement des actifs (ROA) et la valeur du marché, comme le Q de Tobin (TBQ), sur une période de 4 ans de 2011 à 2014. Les résultats de l'étude montrent que la tendance en matière de responsabilité sociale des entreprises a augmenté tout au long de la période, notamment dans la divulgation sur les pratiques en matière d'emploi et d'environnement, qui sont les deux éléments les plus largement divulgués. Alors que les résultats de l'analyse empirique indiquent que cette relation entre divulgation RSE et performance financière est mixte pour toutes les entreprises y compris les secteurs industriels et non industriels. French law currently obliges companies to include information on environmental and social concerns in their annual activity reports.The objective of this thesis is to study the impact of the disclosure of CSR of CAC 40 listed companies on the Paris Stock Exchange (Euronext), on the corporate financial performance. In order to this, a statement on corporate social responsibility and social reporting is first presented using the content analysis method based on the Sustainability Reporting Guidelines (GRI-G3.1). Then, financial performance is measured by accounting measures (ROA) and market measures (TBQ) obtained from the Datastream database. These quantitative data were used in a panel data regression model to test the impact of social reporting on the return on assets (ROA) and market value such as Tobin's Q (TBQ) over a period of 4 years, from 2011 to 2014.The results of the study show that the trend in corporate social responsibility increased throughout the period, particularly regarding the disclosure of employment practices and the environment, which are the two most widely disclosed elements. The results of the empirical analysis indicate that this mixed relationship between CSR disclosure and financial performance exists for all companies whether industrial or non-industrial. This work contributes to the literature on CSR by elucidating the temporal impact of the disclosure of environmental and social information on corporate value

Reporting of international conflict has implications for understanding, political action, and policy formation. This means media coverage can influence the outcomes of conflict. This study investigated reporting of the Arab Spring conflicts by U.S. television networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC). The study examined the time frame between the onset of the uprising and February 29, 2012 when dictators were unseated in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and Yemen. Agenda-setting and media framing theory were used to analyze transcripts (N = 316) for dominant issues, sources used, frames and, social media. Results of the study corroborate existing research regarding conflict reporting. Coverage was mostly episodic and dominated by violence, however, attention was paid to the role of social media in overthrowing regimes, violent acts of regime brutality, and democracy. Core causes of the uprising received only marginal coverage. Ordinary domestic citizens were used most frequently as sources. Other findings applicable to U.S. media coverage are presented.

En se focalisant sur 38 grands groupes cotés au CAC 40, de 2007 à 2013, la question de l’affichage environnemental et de sa valorisation sur le marché est envisagée dans une étude exploratoire selon les axes suivants : Le premier consiste à identifier l’existence d’un effet sur les cours de bourse d’une diffusion publique d’éléments afférant à la stratégie environnementale, en faisant appel aux études d’événements. La publication du document de référence a ainsi retenu toute l’attention. Puis, il apparaît essentiel de caractériser cette information : L’objectif n’est pas d’évaluer la qualité de la politique adoptée, mais d’étudier et évaluer les comportements en la matière, en mobilisant une analyse de contenu pour un total de 228 documents de référence. Une méthodologie de scoring a été adoptée, afin d’établir un indice de diffusion d’informations environnementales, sur la base d’un référentiel reconnu internationalement et pertinent, le Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Enfin, une modélisation permet de tester la relation entre la réaction observée sur le marché financier et l’information environnementale. Sur la pratique de diffusion d’informations environnementales, les comportements des entreprises de l’échantillon se sont améliorés tant sur la nature des informations divulguées que sur les pratiques globales : Elles sont de plus en plus transparente sur la base des critères environnementaux définis par le GRI. Last, one may test the relationship between the disclosure practices and the impact of this disclosure on the stock market. Companies tend to be more and more transparent according to the GRI, as on the items itself than on their whole practices. When they circulate their registration documents, there are significant cumulated abnormal returns. As a result, one may observe that disclosure on environmental practices explains more the abnormal returns than financial datas, as the leverage variation, even if this effect tend to be less and less important with time

esta informação não permita uma análise realista, imprescindível para a tomada de
decisão. O relato por segmentos é essencial para os utilizadores das demonstrações
financeiras, uma vez que a diversificação torna a informação mais complexa. A presente
dissertação tem como objetivo geral a análise da influência da informação referente ao
relato por segmentos na performance das empresas, debruçando-se nos principais
índices da Bolsa de Valores Europeia, nomeadamente o PSI 20 (Portugal), o IBEX35
(Espanha), o CAC 40 (França), o BEL 20 (Bélgica) e o AEX (Holanda), excluindo
empresas do setor financeiro. Tem como objetivos específicos (i) investigar o grau de
cumprimento das empresas com os requisitos da IFRS 8 – Segmentos Operacionais; e
(ii) compreender se a performance das empresas está relacionada com o número de
segmentos, nível de conformidade com a norma, tipologia dos segmentos,
internacionalização, dimensão, alavancagem, idade e país da empresa. Através da
aplicação de um modelo de regressão múltipla, concluímos que apenas as variáveis
número de segmentos, nível de internacionalização e dimensão influenciam o
desempenho das empresas em análise. Corroborando o impacto positivo das variáveis
internacionalização e dimensão, verificado em estudos anteriores, e contrariamente ao
esperado encontrámos uma influência negativa, da variável número de segmentos.Currently, large economic groups diversify their activities, whether through the operation in various sectors and geographic areas, or even through the diversification of products and services. Thus, the reporting of aggregate data, in the financial statements, by those groups, does not allow this information to make a realistic analysis, essential for decision making. The segment reporting is essential for the users of financial statements, since with diversification the information becomes more complex. The main objective of the current research is to identify the impact of the segment reporting information on the performance of the companies, addressing the main indexes of European Stock Exchange, namely PSI 20 (Portugal), IBEX 35 (Spain), CAC 40 (France), BEL 20 (Belgium) and AEX (Netherlands), excluding companies in the financial sector. It envolves the following specific objectives (i) to investigate the degree of compliance of companies with the requirements of IFRS 8 – Operating Segments; and (ii) understand if the performance of the companies is related to the number of segments, level of compliance with the standard, type of segments, internationalization, size, leverage, age and country of the company. Through an aplication of a multiple regression model, we conclude, that only the variables number of segments, level of internacionalization and dimension has influence on the performance of the companies in the study. Confirming the positive impact of the variables internacionalization and dimension, verified em prior studies, and in contrast to the expected we found a negative influence, throught the variable number of segments.

Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology (CBNC) collects appropriate prerequisite statements of training that match guidelines and administers a well- constructed examination leading to physician certification in recognition of meeting national standards to practice Nuclear Cardiology. Policies and procedures of NRC/COCATS/CBNC are reviewed in this chapter and near term challenges to evolving physician certification in a complex healthcare system are explored. Lab Accreditation is a quality process that goes beyond physicians to assess equipment, staff, policies and procedures, image quality, and reporting. Lab accreditation by one of three recognized accrediting bodies is now mandated for reimbursement of advanced imaging in Medicare program. Intersociety Accreditation Commission (IAC, Nuclear/PET division) is a recognized body for lab accreditation and has placed special emphasis on clinical reporting/outcomes and meaningful quality improvement activities. IAC Nuclear cardiology Standards are reviewed as opportunities to externally be recognized for meeting quality standards within a protected peer review climate. As with certification, near term challenges exist for evolving lab accreditation and these are explored as well in this chapter.

Treating sexual obsessions in OCD differs from the treatment of other forms of OCD due to heightened feelings of shame surrounding symptoms, widespread misdiagnosis from professionals, and the covert nature of ritualizing behaviors. This book provides clinicians with the tools needed to successfully help clients suffering from unwanted, intrusive thoughts of a sexual nature. It provides instructions on how to diagnose OCD in clients reporting sexual obsessions, guidance on measures to employ during assessment, and a discussion of differential diagnoses. It includes a step-by-step manual describing how to provide treatment, using a combination of exposure and ritual (response) prevention (Ex/RP), cognitive therapy, and newer CBT techniques. Also included are case examples of pedophile-themed OCD (sometimes called P-OCD) and sexual orientation worries in OCD (called SO-OCD or H-OCD) and their treatment approaches, along with a catalogue of specific ideas for in vivo exposures and detailed templates for imaginal exposures. The uproar generated by that footage generated more support, volunteers, and moral clout for the civil rights movement. This chapter considers how one news program, The CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite, presented the Selma campaign as an ongoing nightly news story, with particular emphasis on its coverage of the campaign's three martyrs: Jimmie Lee Jackson, Rev. James Reeb, and Viola Liuzzo. It also discusses the response of white Selmians in the “glaring light of television” and the commentary in the African American press regarding the television coverage of the campaign.

This chapter examines how television networks handled the coverage of the March on Washington on August 28, 1963 to a national audience of millions. The March on Washington drew a quarter of a million civil rights activists who converged on the nation's capital to press for “jobs and freedom.” Television cameras and reporters focused on the demonstrators' placards and signs. All three networks broadcast the event live. With the exception of presidential inaugurations and nominating conventions, no single event had ever commanded such extensive television coverage. This chapter first considers how the CBS news team framed and packaged the March on Washington as a news story, and particularly Martin Luther King Jr.'s “I Have a Dream” speech, before discussing various responses to the television news reporting of the march in the African American press. It suggests that the March on Washington functioned as a paean of “black and white together,” as the networks invited viewers to share in a utopian taste of achieved equality.

The EU faces large amounts of financial secrecy supplied to it by secrecy jurisdictions. In this chapter, we use the Bilateral Financial Secrecy Index to quantify which jurisdictions supply most secrecy to EU Member States. The chapter assesses the progress of two recent EU policy efforts to tackle financial secrecy: automatic exchange of country-by-country reporting (CbCR) data and black and grey list of non-cooperative jurisdictions. It is found that 34 per cent of the financial secrecy faced by the EU is supplied by other Member States, whose a priori exclusion from the blacklisting exercise reveals its fundamental flaw. Further 13 per cent is supplied by the EU’s dependencies, mainly the UK’s Cayman Islands, Bermuda, and Guernsey. The jurisdictions that supply the most secrecy not covered by automatic information exchange of CbCR data are the British Virgin Islands, United States, and Curacao. Finally the chapter discusses policy recommendations that stem from our analysis.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most frequent and lethal cancer types worldwide. While surgery with chemotherapy and radiotherapy remains the only curative approach for localized CRC, for metastatic disease the therapeutic landscape has significantly evolved over the last years. Development and approval of novel targeted therapies, such as monoclonal antibodies against EGFR and VEGF, have significantly increased the median survival of patients with metastatic disease, with some trials reporting a benefit over 40 months. Increasing accessibility of high throughput sequencing has unraveled several new therapeutic targets. Actionable alterations, such as HER2 overexpression, BRAF mutations, and NTRK fusions, are currently available in metastatic disease, providing significant therapeutic opportunities for these patients, while new emerging agents, as immune checkpoint inhibitors, promise better treatment options in the near future. In this chapter, an overview of established and future CRC targeted therapies in the clinical setting is provided, as well as their mechanism of action, limitations, and future applicability.

This chapter contains a brief history of accounting practices in Brazil, the Brazilian convergence process that resulted in using the IFRS, and new perspectives about the IFRS after implementation. In order to highlight the issues, it includes some empirical evidence and cases. The USGAAP served as the major influence on Brazilian accounting from 1978 to 2007. In 2008, the process of the IFRS convergence started in Brazil, resulting in an important culture change. For the local standardization, the Brazilian Accounting Pronouncements Committee, known as the CPC, was created, issuing its norms in compliance with IFRS with no modifications. Brazil has a history of tax legislation influencing its accounting practices, but the process of Brazilian convergence to the IFRS has incurred a detachment of accounting from tax policies for corporate purposes. The chapter concludes with a description of the current activities associated with the IFRS and financial reports, such as the development of the XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) reporting standard.

International tax policy reforms such as Country-by-Country Reporting and Automatic Exchange of Information aim to increase tax compliance and revenues. Using a tax ecosystems perspective, this chapterapplies an agent-based simulation to assess the effects of these reforms. We demonstrate for EU Member States and selected European countries that reforms can be counteracted by tax competition and tax spillover effects which reduce their effectiveness. The model estimates European corporate tax revenue losses from tax avoidance and evasion of €104.9 billion in 2019. Without further reforms they would increase to €135.8 billion in 2029. A complete implementation of both Country-by-Country Reporting and Automatic Exchange of Information would help to decrease the total CIT gap by 16.4 per cent to €113.5 billion in the year 2029 The model explains why the seemingly small effect of CbCR is not so small and why the effect of AEoI may not be as promising as it seems.

Internationally, the prevalence of online poker gambling is estimated to be between one percent and eight percent of the general adult population. In relation to these estimated prevalence rates, the potential for addictive behaviour and the paucity of theory, online poker is an important concern for public health. Individuals may seek knowledge that will assist in developing poker gambling skill via virtual community interactions. In this paper, the authors use a virtual ethnography design to observe knowledge creation, transfer, and retrieval processes within a poker-focused virtual community. The paper develops current knowledge and understanding of how computer-mediated communication (CMC) is used by poker gamblers to develop their executive cognitive skills and enhance their proficiency. Two independent poker gambling virtual communities were observed for a six-month period. Data were collected through participant observation, and content analysis was used to identify emergent themes. Two central behavioural themes emerged from the participant observation (i.e., ‘Experiential Reporting’ and ‘Development of Poker Skill’). The implications of poker gambling knowledge creation, transfer, and retrieval via CMC on responsible gambling are also discussed.

All counselors have to start somewhere, so Chapter 3 opens by describing the broader ethical and legal considerations an effective school-based practitioner must understand before initiating cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Special attention is paid to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), in addition to the careful attention practitioners must pay to these laws when serving students with medical needs. Chapter 3 highlights important ethical principles that school psychologists often abide by, including confidentiality and mandated reporting. Next, Chapter 3 introduces basic counseling skills that all practitioners can benefit from. These micro skills, like how to build a strong therapeutic alliance and how to listen, observe, and ask questions, are essential to maximizing CBT’s effectiveness.

The rapid emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria has become a global public health crisis. As antibiotics are the only class of medications where use in one patient can compromise their efficacy in another patient, stewardship is critical to preserve this shared resource. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have focused on improving antimicrobial use for many years. One effective strategy used to decrease the emergence of multi‐drug-resistant organisms (MDROs) is the antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP): a coordinated healthcare program that seeks to provide optimal antimicrobial treatment to patients to reduce the emergence of MDROs, improve patient outcomes, and decrease cost. This chapter reviews the importance of an antimicrobial stewardship program, reviews core elements of a pediatric hospital ASP, and provides guidance on tracking and reporting antimicrobial prescribing in pediatric healthcare facilities.

Awide variety of infectious agents are sexually transmitted (see table 6.1), causing an array of disease manifestations that are frequently not confined to the genital tract. According to the most recent Centers for Disease Control (CDC) surveillance data from 2009, the most common reportable sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in the United States are chlamydia, gonorrhea, and primary and secondary syphilis, respectively, and the annual incidence of chlamydia and early syphilis is still increasing. Case reporting for more common STDs, such as genital herpes simplex virus (HSV), trichomonas, and human papilloma virus (HPV) infections is not required. In this chapter several of the most common ulcerative and nonulcerative STDs are discussed. The viral hepatitides (A, B, and C) and HIV merit individual attention and are not addressed in this chapter. Vaginitis and HPV are also not discussed here.

Aim/Purpose: In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tracks the disease activity using data collected from medical practices on a weekly basis. Collection of data by CDC from medical practices on a weekly basis leads to a lag time of approximately 2 weeks before any viable action can be planned. The 2-week delay problem was addressed in the study by creating machine learning models to predict flu outbreak. Background: The 2-week delay problem was addressed in the study by correlation of the flu trends identified from Twitter data and official flu data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in combination with creating a machine learning model using both data sources to predict flu outbreak. Methodology: A quantitative correlational study was performed using a quasi-experimental design. Flu trends from the CDC portal and tweets with mention of flu and influenza from the state of Georgia were used over a period of 22 weeks from December 29, 2019 to May 30, 2020 for this study. Contribution: This research contributed to the body of knowledge by using a simple bag-of-word method for sentiment analysis followed by the combination of CDC and Twitter data to generate a flu prediction model with higher accuracy than using CDC data only. Findings: The study found that (a) there is no correlation between official flu data from CDC and tweets with mention of flu and (b) there is an improvement in the performance of a flu forecasting model based on a machine learning algorithm using both official flu data from CDC and tweets with mention of flu. Recommendations for Practitioners: In this study, it was found that there was no correlation between the official flu data from the CDC and the count of tweets with mention of flu, which is why tweets alone should be used with caution to predict a flu out-break. Based on the findings of this study, social media data can be used as an additional variable to improve the accuracy of flu prediction models. It is also found that fourth order polynomial and support vector regression models offered the best accuracy of flu prediction models. Recommendation's for Researchers: Open-source data, such as Twitter feed, can be mined for useful intelligence benefiting society. Machine learning-based prediction models can be improved by adding open-source data to the primary data set. Impact on Society: Key implication of this study for practitioners in the field were to use social media postings to identify neighborhoods and geographic locations affected by seasonal outbreak, such as influenza, which would help reduce the spread of the disease and ultimately lead to containment. Based on the findings of this study, social media data will help health authorities in detecting seasonal outbreaks earlier than just using official CDC channels of disease and illness reporting from physicians and labs thus, empowering health officials to plan their responses swiftly and allocate their resources optimally for the most affected areas. Future Research: A future researcher could use more complex deep learning algorithms, such as Artificial Neural Networks and Recurrent Neural Networks, to evaluate the accuracy of flu outbreak prediction models as compared to the regression models used in this study. A future researcher could apply other sentiment analysis techniques, such as natural language processing and deep learning techniques, to identify context-sensitive emotion, concept extraction, and sarcasm detection for the identification of self-reporting flu tweets. This paper provides a unique perspective on successful brownfield railroad applications. It presents realistic challenges and solutions when applying a turnkey solution with a replacement or an overlay system. Brownfield commissioning takes place when an existing infrastructure is to upgrade to a new system with a different technology than the incumbent one. As signaling systems are getting more and more complex, it is extremely important to maintain robustness in the system design as well as project execution, such as logistics, documentation, and issue reporting. Many transportation authorities are moving from their current train control signaling system to a new system to combat obsolescence issues, to gain better system capacity, and to lower operation and maintenance costs. This paper discusses brownfield commissioning in general, and also presents specific cases in migration from a track circuit interlocking system to a Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) system. These two systems have distinct characteristics that provide opportunities of coexistence, but also introduce difficulties in mixed-mode operations.

The present study is aimed at investigating the effect of solder mask thickness on the solder ball shear test. Compared to the ball pull test, less brittle failures were found in the ball shear test. This is most likely caused by the support of solder mask. So far there is not publication reporting the effect of solder mask in detail. In this paper, specimens with various thicknesses of solder mask were fabricated and a series of ball shear tests were conducted. Cold ball pull (CBP) tests were performed as well for parallel studies. The attachment strength of solder balls under multiple reflows was evaluated as an index for comparison. The test results indicate that, in ball shear tests, brittle failures can be identified more easily in specimens with thinner solder mask after multiple reflows, especially for tests with higher shear speed and more reflows. No obvious effect of solder mask thickness on the ball pull test was found, regardless of different pulling speeds and multiple reflows.

Abstract Due to the high cost of equipment and lack of trained personnel, manual palpation is a preferred alternative breast examination technique over mammography. The process involves a thorough search pattern using trained fingers and applying adequate pressure, with the objective of identifying solid masses from the surrounding breast tissue. However, palpation requires skills that must be obtained through adequate training in order to ensure proper diagnosis. Consequently, palpation performance and reporting techniques have been inconsistent. Automating the palpation technique would optimize the performance of self-breast examination, optimize clinical breast examinations (CBE), and enable the visualization of breast abnormalities as well as assessing their mechanical properties. Various methods of reconstructing the internal mechanical properties of breast tissue abnormalities have been explored. However, all systems that have been reported are bulky and rely on complex electronic systems. Hence, they are both expensive and require trained medical professionals. The methods also do not involve palpation, a key element in CBE. This research aims in developing a portable and inexpensive automated palpable system that mimics CBE to quantitatively image breast lumps. The method uses a piezoresistive sensor equipped probe consisting of an electronic circuit for collecting deformation-induced electrical signals. The piezoresistive sensor is made by spraying microwave exfoliated graphite/latex blend on a latex sheet. Lumps can be detected by monitoring a change in electrical resistance caused by the deformation of the sensor which is induced by abnormalities in the breast tissue. The electrical signals are collected using a microcontroller and a pixelated image of the breast can be reconstructed. The research is still in progress, and this report serves as proof of concept testing by pressing the probe with hand pressure and reconstructing the electrical signals using Microsoft Excel. Four maps were created for qualitatively analyzing the result. The pressure maps clearly display areas where pressure was applied, indicating the potential of the probe in detecting breast tissue abnormalities. The pressure maps show the feasibility for using such a sensor for the application in CBE. Furthermore, a sensor such as this is also possible of detecting the depth and size of masses within breast tissue, which, may lead to a more accurate diagnosis. Better manufacturing, accuracy, precision, and realtime data feeds are areas of future consideration for this project. This project involves knowledge and applications from mechanical, electrical, computational, and materials engineering.
