Penicillium rubens is a filamentous fungus of great biotechnological importance due to its role as an industrial producer of the antibiotic penicillin. However, despite its significance, our understanding of the regulatory mechanisms governing biological processes in this fungus is still limited. In fungi, zinc finger proteins containing a Zn(II)2Cys6 domain are particularly interesting regulators. Although the P. rubens genome harbors many genes encoding proteins with this domain, only two of them have been investigated thus far. In this study, we employed CRISPR-Cas9 technology to disrupt the pcz1 gene, which encodes a Zn(II)2Cys6 protein in P. rubens. The disruption of pcz1 resulted in a decrease in the production of penicillin in P. rubens. This decrease in penicillin production was accompanied by the downregulation of the expression of pcbAB, pcbC and penDE genes, which form the biosynthetic gene cluster responsible for penicillin production. Moreover, the disruption of pcz1 also impacts on asexual development, leading to decreased growth and conidiation, as well as enhanced conidial germination. Collectively, our results indicate that pcz1 acts as a positive regulator of penicillin production, growth, and conidiation, while functioning as a negative regulator of conidial germination in P. rubens. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report involving a gene encoding a Zn(II)2Cys6 protein in the regulation of penicillin biosynthesis in P. rubens.

Entre el 24 de agosto de 1891 y el 10 de mayo de 1892 el poeta nicaragüense Rubén Darío vivió en Costa Rica. Durante algunos días se hospedó en casa del escritor y político costarricense Luis Rafael Flores (1860-1938), en la ciudad de Heredia. De tan notable acontecimiento, Flores quiso dejar constancia escrita, por lo que le pidió al joven escritor Luis Dobles Segreda que redactase unas páginas. El resultado fue un breve artículo que Dobles Segreda tituló «Rubén Darío en Heredia». Se publicó en la revista Athenea, en el número 6 del 15 de julio de 1920 (pp. 929-932). Inmediatamente se incluye una página de Darío dedicada a la ciudad. Ambos documentos, por su importancia histórica, los reproduce Letras, como parte del homenaje al gran poeta hispanoamericano, cuyo centenario de su fallecimiento se conmemora durante 2016 en el mundo literario y académico de habla hispana.Sherry E. A preocupação com a infância e sua relação com a educação articuladas com a experiência religiosa está presente em múltiplos campos do conhecimento, na atualidade, como bem representa Rubens Alves em várias de suas obras. Para o escritor, educação e religião estão diretamente envolvidas com questões socioculturais, demonstradas, no que chama de experiência estética, de olhar sensível, de afetividade docente e de encantamento. Nessa esteira, percebemos que o pensamento de Alves está cada vez mais próximo do campo educacional atual, pois nas relações educativas o ensinar conhecimentos não deve se restringir ao conjunto operacional presente nas áreas disciplinares mas, potencializar as experiências do discente para que haja melhor conexão entre o aprendizado e sua vivência, entre afeto e cognição. Este artigo tem por objetivo refletir sobre a articulação dessas dimensões, na obra de Rubem Alves. Assim, este estudo está constituído por pesquisa bibliográfica projetada em uma metodologia qualitativa. Como considerações finais, afirma-se o pioneirismo de Alves em buscar, por meio da opinião de diversos autores um posicionamento educacional articulado à religião e vinculados à reunião de fatores da subjetividade, afetividade e relacionamentos sociais vigentes.

Experiments were conducted to determine the effects of supplementing ground alfalfa diets with 0, 3, 4, 5 or 10% canola acidulated fatty acids (CAFA) or tallow on digestion in the rumen, and on nutrient digestibility and performance by sheep. Effects of these treatments on in situ dry matter (DMD) and nitrogen (ND) disappearance were measured by the nylon bag technique using rumen-fistulated cattle. DMD was reduced (P < 0.05) for diets containing CAFA at the 5 and 10% levels after 24 and 48 h of incubation in the rumen and for diets containing tallow at all levels after 48 h incubation. ND from the nylon bags was not affected by fat supplementation. A digestibility experiment with 36 mature wethers in a completely randomized design showed no differences (P > 0.05) in dry matter, nitrogen, acid detergent fiber or energy digestibility between unsupplemented and fat-supplemented diets. Neutral detergent fiber digestibility, however, was greater (P < 0.05) for the 3% CAFA, 4% tallow and 10% tallow diets than the control. Fat supplementation did not influence rumen fermentation characteristics such as pH and volatile fatty acid patterns. In a feeding trial with 84 weaned lambs in a completely randomized design, supplementation with 5% CAFA or tallow at 3, 4 and 5% resulted in increased liveweight gain when compared with control (P < 0.05). Esta dissertação aborda as similaridades e incongruências entre a arte de registrar os instantes através da fotografia e a arte de Rubem Braga em escrever suas crônicas. A partir da leitura do livro Casa dos Braga: memória de infância, de Rubem Braga (1913-1990), publicado em 1997, intenta-se evidenciar nessa obra o caráter fragmentário, o recorte de personagens e paisagens, as dimensões reduzidas dos textos coligidos e o pendor documentário dessa recolha de crônicas da infância que conduzem o leitor a surpreender a tangência e a contaminação das operações da escrita memorialística pelos processos do dispositivo fotográfico, aqui considerado tanto como metáfora da permanência dos resíduos mnemônicos no aparelho psíquico, quanto como sintoma que reúne a fotografia e as écritures de soi na mesma tensão “indecidível” entre o registro testemunhal do passado e as muitas irrupções do imaginário e da ficção. Procura-se, também, demonstrar, na leitura da Casa dos Braga, a impressão sedutora e enigmática de encontrar-se diante de um álbum de fotografias. Da mesma forma que uma coleção de retratos de família nos prende e nos interroga silenciosamente, a substância textual das crônicas de Rubem Braga, enquanto modo de fixação e acumulação de instantes fugidios, aciona no leitor práticas similares àquelas do “amador” de fotos, pois ali também fragmentos e recortes estão a exigir do olhar e da imaginação movimentos e digressões que permitam complementar o espaço e unir as muitas estações do tempo. Ali mudada em tipos imóveis, a memória textualizada nos mobiliza para vivificar o que está morto, como no paradoxo em que a fotografia se diz: “eternização do instante”. Enfim, pretende-se ressaltar a importância do espaço da casa de infância em relação ao espaço literário do escritor e discutir a pertinência da analogia entre o “álbum de retrato” e a obra referida, correlacionando a literatura com a prática semiótica da fotografia.
This dissertation approaches the similarities and incongruities among the art of registering the instants through the picture and the art of Rubem Braga in writing his chronicles. Starting from the reading of the book Casa dos Braga: memory of childhood, of Rubem Braga (1913-1990), published in 1997, it is attempted to evidence in that work the fragmentary character, the characters and landscapes cutting, the reduced dimensions of the gathered texts and the documentary tendency of that collection of childhood chronicles that drive the reader to surprise the tangency and the contamination of the operations of memorialist writing by the processes of the photographic device, here considered as much as metaphor of the permanence of the mnemonic residues in the psychic apparel, as much as symptom that gathers the picture and the écritures de soi in the same "indecisive tension" between the testimonial registration of the past and the several irruptions from the imaginary and from the fiction. It is sought, also, to demonstrate, in the reading of the Casa dos Braga, the seductive and enigmatic impression of finding before an album of pictures. In the same way that a collection of family pictures arrests us and it interrogates us quietly, the textual substance of Rubem Braga's chronicles, while fixation way and accumulation of fugitive instants, works in the reader similar practices to those of the "amateur" of pictures, because there also fragments and cuttings are to demand of the glance and of the imagination movements and digressions that allow to complement the space and to unite multiple stations of the time. There changed in immobile types, the textualized memory mobilizes us to vivify what is dead, as in the paradox in that the picture is said: "eternization of the instant". Finally, it is intended to emphasize the importance of the space of the house of childhood in relation to the writer's literary space and to discuss the pertinence of the analogy between the "picture album" and the referred work, correlating the literature with the semiotics practice of the picture.

Este trabalho se propõe, a partir dos romances O Caso Morel e o Diário de um Fescenino, além do conto Intestino Grosso de Rubem Fonseca, demonstrar um desconforto provocativo sentido através das leituras devido às estratégias do narrador e dos personagens. A denominação mal-estar refere-se ao sentimento de incômodo em virtude das várias vozes presentes no texto e as escolhas para a criação ficcional. Ainda se pretende fazer uma leitura dialógica entre a produção do autor e outras manifestações artísticas, como pinturas e filmes. Os quadros de Francis Bacon e Ingres serão articulados paralelamente à escritura contemporânea, assim como a produção cinematográfica O Homem do Ano. Faremos também análises dos “herdeiros” de Fonseca, como Patrícia Melo e Zeca Fonseca. Os textos críticos norteadores são O mal-estar na civilização de Sigmund Freud e, conseqüentemente, a obra Mal-estar na atualidade de Joel Birman, entre outros. Este estudo pretende, então, articular algumas questões pelas quais há essa provocação ao leitor, seja pela própria escritura, seja pelas ações dos personagens fonsequianos.
This work is proposed, starting with the novels “O Caso Morel” and “Diário de um fescenino”, beyond the “Intestino Grosso”of Rubem Fonseca, demonstrate a discomfort provocative by the strategies of the narrator and the characters fonsequianos.The name “uneasinefss” refers to the feeling of discomfort due to the various voices in the text and the choices for creating fictional. still intends to make a dialogic reading between the production of the author and other artistic events, such as paintings and movies.The paintings of Francis Bacon and Ingres will be articulated in parallel with the contemporary writing, as well as film production Man of the year.We will also analyses the "herdiros" of Fonseca, as Patricia Melo and Zeca Fonseca. O objetivo da presente pesquisa é estudar o processo de transformação de um conjunto habitacional clássico modernista, localizado na zona norte da cidade de Porto Alegre e que será referenciado neste trabalho como Conjunto Habitacional Rubem Berta. Trata-se de uma situação baseada em princípios exóticos de organização espacial, princípios que mostraram-se incapazes, ao longo de 20 anos de vida do conjunto, de atender às demandas espaciais da população moradora e de gerar espaços adequados às pessoas e propícios ao convívio urbano. O fracasso do projeto habitacional modernista, nesse caso específico, se torna visível, ao longo dos anos, através da descaracterização progressiva da concepção original a partir das modificações realizadas pelos moradores. O trabalho analisa o modo como a forma urbana, em suas constantes alterações, vem a determinar tanto a geração espontânea da atividade econômica quanto o padrão de movimento e animação urbana. Essas alterações na forma urbana terminaram criando uma ambiência bem diferente daquela pensada para um Rubem Berta cidade jardim. Na cidade jardim, pensada a partir dos conceitos de cidade surgidos no final do século XIX, a tipologia arquitetônica idealizada pelos arquitetos leva ao anseio de uma cidade sem divisão do solo e, quando parcelada, uma cidade de superquadras. No Conjunto Rubem Berta, tanto os tipos arquitetônicos quanto a forma urbana foram e continuam sendo objeto de permanente transformação. O lado positivo da favelização dessa COHAB foi a melhoria na qualidade do espaço original através da apropriação, pela população moradora, dos espaços públicos que foram sendo transformados. A população moradora definiu a melhor utilização para o espaço público apropriado, adequando-o à vida, à prática e à necessidade individual ou coletiva. Desta maneira, paulatinamente o conjunto foi se inserindo no tecido urbano da cidade. O estudo dessas transformações é o objetivo dessa dissertação.

Case-noncase studies, also known as case-control studies, are ubiquitous in epidemiology, where a common goal is to estimate the effect of an exposure on an outcome of interest. In many areas of application, such as policy-informing drug utilization research, this effect is inherently causal. Although logistic regression, the predominant method for analysis of case-noncase data, and other traditional methodologies, may provide associative insights, they are generally inappropriate for causal conclusions. As such, they fail to address the very essence of many epidemiological investigations that employ them. In addition, these methodologies do not allow for outcome-free design (Rubin, 2007) of case-noncase data, which compromises the objectivity of resulting inferences.
This thesis is directed at exploring what can be done to preserve objectivity in the causal analysis of case-noncase study data. It is structured as follows.
In Chapter 1 we introduce a formal framework for studying causal effects from case-noncase data, which builds upon the well-established Rubin Causal Model for prospective studies.
In Chapter 2 we propose a two-party, three-step methodology — PrepDA — for objective causal inference with case-noncase data. We illustrate the application of our methodology in a simple non-trivial setting. Its operating characteristics are investigated via simulation, and compared to those of logistic and probit regression.
Chapter 3 focuses on the re-analysis of a subset of data from a published article, Karkouti et al. (2006). We investigate whether PrepDA and logistic regression, when applied to case-noncase data, can generate estimates that are concordant with those from the causal analysis of prospectively collected data. We introduce tools for covariate balance assessment across multiple imputed datasets. We explore the potential for analyst bias with logistic regression, when said method is used to analyze
case-noncase data.

Previous issue date: 2014-08-25Em 2005, Rubem Fonseca lança o livro Mandrake, a Bíblia e a bengala, reutilizando um dos seus personagens mais famosos, o advogado Paulo Mendes, conhecido como Mandrake, em mais duas histórias de cunho investigativo. Esta pesquisa consiste em um estudo das duas novelas que compõem o livro, com o objetivo de observar como nessa obra Rubem Fonseca mantém aspectos já presentes em outras narrativas protagonizadas pelo advogado-detetive Mandrake: a apropriação da tradição da literatura policial e o deslocamento das regras do gênero. Para tanto, com base nos conceitos teóricos provenientes de Medeiros e Albuquerque (1973, 1979); Mandel (1988); Boileau & Narcejac (1991); Todorov (2003), analisamos as características do gênero policial, conferindo destaque para dois principais subgêneros: o romance de enigma, pautado na crença na racionalidade analítica que leva de modo impecável o detetive à resolução final dos crimes; e o romance negro, que se ambienta no submundo brutal da corrupção e do crime, das relações ambíguas, o que viabiliza a emergência de um novo tipo de detetive: duro, brutal e falível. A partir daí, realizamos uma breve apresentação da literatura policial produzida no Brasil, e em seguida delineamos as principias características dos textos policiais de Rubem Fonseca. Por fim, analisamos o modo como o autor subverte os limites do gênero policial na composição de suas novelas, na medida em que ativa técnicas literárias próprias de ambos os subgêneros e que apresenta Mandrake ora como um detetive ambíguo, ora como um detetive que não detecta os crimes.

Foram realizados dois experimentos, no experimento 1 utilizou a cana-de-açúcar como fonte de volumoso e no experimento 2 utilizou-se o feno de tifton 85 como volumoso. Em ambos os experimentos foram testadas diferentes relações V:C (70:30; 60:40; 40:60 e 20:80). Em cada experimento, utilizaram-se oito novilhos Nelore (331±8 kg PV), cânulados no rumen, distribuídos em duplo quadrado latino 4x4 balanceados para o controle do efeito residual. No experimento 1 (cana-de-açúcar), o aumento da proporção de concentrado na dieta reduziu a população de Fibrobacter succinogenes e Ruminococus flavefaciens, e aumentou a população de Selenomonas ruminantium e Megasphaera elsdenii, porém o CDFDN não foi alterado. O aumento da participação de carboidratos não estruturais na dieta favoreceu a síntese de proteína microbiana e reduziu a população de bactérias fibrolíticas. A cana-de-açúcar como fonte de volumoso em dieta com proporções crescente de concentrado pode otimizar a síntese de proteína microbiana sem alterar digestibilidade da fibra. No experimento 2 (feno de Tifton 85), o aumento da proporção de concentrado na dieta reduziu a população de Fibrobacter succinogenes, Ruminococus flavefaciens e Ruminococcus albus e aumentou a população de Selenomonas ruminantium e Megasphaera elsdenii e Streptococcus bovis e o CDFDN diminuiu com o aumento da proporção de concentrado na dieta. Feno de Tifton 85 em dietas com altas proporções de concentrado pode minimizar o risco de distúrbios ruminais em novilhos confinados
This trial aimed to characterize the changes in ruminal microbiota, ruminal fermentation, intake, diet digestibility and microbial efficiency in Nellore steers fed with different forage:concentrate proportions, using as sources of forage Tifton 85 hay or sugar cane. Two experiments were conducted: in experiment 1 the sugar cane was used as forage source and in Experiment 2 the Tifton 85 hay was used as forage source. In both experiments were tested different F:C proportions (70:30, 60:40, 40:60 and 20:80). On each experiment were usedeight Nellore steers ( 331 ± 8 kg BW) cannulated in the rumen, in a double latin square 4x4 balanced to control the residual effect. In experiment 1 (sugar cane), increasing the proportion of concentrate in the diet reduced the population of Fibrobacter succinogenes and Ruminococus flavefaciens, and increased the population of Selenomonas ruminantium and Megasphaera elsdenii, but the digestibility of NDF has not changed. The increased participation of non-structural carbohydrates in the diet favored microbial protein synthesis and reduced the population of fibrolytic bacteria. The use of sugar cane as forage source associated with the increases of concentrate proportions in the diet can optimize microbial protein synthesis without change the fiber digestibility. In experiment 2 (Tifton 85 hay), increasing the proportion of concentrate in the diet reduced the population of Fibrobacter succinogenes, Ruminococcus albus and Ruminococus flavefaciens and increased the population of Selenomonas ruminantium, Megasphaera elsdenii and Streptococcus bovis and the digestibility of NDF decreased when increases the proportion of concentrate in the diet. Tifton 85 hay in diets with high proportions of concentrate can minimize the risk of ruminal disorders in feedlot steers

De acordo com o Censo Demográfico do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), realizado no ano de 2000 (PMPA, 2004a, 2004b), existem grandes disparidades socioeconômicas entre os bairros Rubem Berta e Moinhos de Vento, em Porto Alegre/RS. Como exemplo, o rendimento médio mensal dos responsáveis pelo domicílio nos bairros referidos, captados em 2000, foi de 29,33 salários mínimos no bairro Moinhos de Vento e de 4,05 salários mínimos no bairro Rubem Berta. Inicialmente, elege-se o quesito renda para, então, partir-se em busca de dimensões mais abrangentes em termos de qualidade de vida. Objetiva-se verificar o acesso à qualidade de vida dos habitantes dos bairros Rubem Berta e Moinhos de Vento realizando-se um estudo comparativo entre os dois bairros pesquisados, por meio da Abordagem da Capacitação e, mais especificamente, das capacitações centrais de Martha Nussbaum (2000), como também sob a impressão dos próprios sujeitos estudados. Discute-se também a possibilidade do enfoque da capacitação contribuir para a elaboração e avaliação de programas sociais. Uma pesquisa de campo caracteriza o tipo de estudo. O método de investigação é a análise interpretativa, fundamentada em entrevistas baseadas nas dez capacitações centrais de Nussbaum (2000), bem como nos métodos comparativo e observacional casual. As entrevistas foram realizadas junto a membros das associações de moradores dos bairros Rubem Berta (Associação Comunitária de Moradores do Conjunto Residencial Rubem Berta - AMORB) e Moinhos de Vento (Moinhos Vive). Como resultados, a pesquisa apresenta alguns elementos que levam a crer que seis blocos temáticos (dos dez abordados) sintetizam as maiores preocupações dos moradores do bairro Rubem Berta (saúde; violência; nutrição e habitação; planejamento familiar; educação, cultura e diversão; e meio ambiente), e que dois blocos temáticos (violência e meio-ambiente) constituem as maiores preocupações do bairro Moinhos de Vento.

Considerando o não-aproveitamento da linguagem verbo-visual e da produção literária brasileira contemporânea pelo discurso didático utilizado nas aulas de Literatura, esta pesquisa tem como objetivo verificar como a imagem veiculada pela capa do livro consegue dialogar, no sentido bakhtiniano do termo, com o texto literário a que pertence. Assim, nos detemos em analisar a representação visual das capas das obras Agosto (1990) e O Seminarista (2009), de Rubem Fonseca no diálogo com o texto e que sentidos esta materialidade verbo-visual consegue despertar para o leitor. Para tanto, este trabalho tem como aporte teórico as considerações sobre o dialogismo do Círculo de Bakhtin bem como seus conceitos derivados como signo ideológico, enunciado concreto, gêneros discursivos e relações dialógicas, articulando com os estudos sobre os elementos que se integram na perceptividade da imagem. Devido aos objetos de estudo desta pesquisa, a fotografia é considerada como recorte ideológico e, subjacente a ela, a cor em sua dimensão simbólica e psicodinâmica, participando do projeto enunciativo. A análise das capas nos mostrou que imagem e texto, assinados por dois sujeitos: autor e o responsável pela elaboração da imagem, ou capista, conseguem travar uma relação dialógica de sentido no que se refere às informações sobre o contexto da obra literária, bem como informações que se verificam somente no interior da narrativa. Além disso, a capa do livro também consegue resgatar alguns valores já perpetuados pelo autor mencionado, incitando interpretações sobre seu contexto de produção. É nesse sentido que a imagem antecipa, de certo modo, uma maneira de ler a obra. Sugerindo múltiplas leituras através de manifestações de sentido derivadas do texto, o ensino de Literatura no Ensino Médio pode lançar mão dos recursos da linguagem verbo-visual na exploração das multiplicidades de sentidos que podem emergir do texto literário no contexto escolar.Considering the non-use of verb-visual language and literary contemporary Brazilian didactic discourse used by classes in Literature, this research aims to determine how the image conveyed by the book cover can engage in Bakhtinian sense of the term, with the literary text to which it belongs. Thus, we pause to consider the visual representation of the covers of the works in Agosto (1990) and O Seminarista (2009), de Rubem Fonseca in dialogue with the text and that this materiality verb senses -visual can wake up to the reader. Therefore, this work has as theoretical considerations about the dialogism of Bakhtin Circle as well as their concepts derived as ideological sign, concrete utterance, genres and dialogical relations, articulating with the studies on the elements that integrate the perceptiveness image. Due to the objects of this research, the photograph is considered clipping ideological, and behind it, the color in its symbolic dimension and psychotherapy, participating in the project enunciation. The analysis of the covers has shown that image and text, signed by two subjects: author and the professional responsible for the cover can catch a dialogical relationship of meaning with regard to information about the context of the literary work, as well as information that exist only inside the narrative. In addition, the cover of the book also manages to rescue some values already perpetuated by the author mentioned, urging interpretations of its context of production. It is in this sense that the image anticipates, in a sense, a way of reading the work. Suggesting multiple readings through demonstrations of meaning derived from the text, the teaching of literature in High School can make use of the resources of language in verbal-visual exploration of the multiplicity of meanings that can emerge from the literary text in the school context.

This study examined the investigations undertaken into the disappearance of congressman Rubens Paiva between 1971 and 2014 as an iniciative to understand the long and tortuous path that led to a Federal Court recognize that the case configured a crime against humanity - decision which is unprecedented in the Brazilian judiciary. This sentence was given after 40 years of investigations into the crime against the parliamentarian. With different purposes and in different contexts, four state agencies performed investigations about the crime: the inquiry of the Army (1971), the investigation of the Federal Police (1986) then transformed into a Military Police Inquiry and conducted by the Army (1987), the survey made by the National Truth Commission and the Rio Truth Commission (2012-2014) and the investigation of the Federal Public Ministry (2012-2014). In addition, this research incorporated to analyze some specific periods of the Paiva family fight, as the request for investigation made by Eunice Paiva in the Council of the Human Rights (CDDPH) in 1971 and then in 1979. This reflection of the Rubens Paiva case procedures allowed to find representations of the paradoxes with which victims of human rights violations were addressed in different contexts since the military regime, exemplifying the cycles of this struggle.
O presente estudo analisou as investigações empreendidas sobre o desaparecimento do deputado federal Rubens Paiva entre 1971 e 2014 para tentar compreender a longa e tortuosa trajetória que levou a 2a Turma Especializada do Tribunal Regional Federal a reconhecer que o caso configurava um crime de lesa-humanidade – decisão até então inédita no Judiciário brasileiro. Essa sentença foi dada após 40 anos de investigações sobre o crime contra o parlamentar. Com diferentes objetivos e em distintos contextos, foram realizados quatro procedimentos de apuração de órgãos estatais sobre o desaparecimento de Rubens Paiva: (I) a Sindicância do Exército (1971), (II) o inquérito da Polícia Federal (1986), depois transformado em Inquérito Policial-Militar e conduzido pelo Exército (1987), (III) a pesquisa da Comissão Nacional da Verdade e da Comissão da Verdade do Rio (2012-2014) e (IV) a investigação do Ministério Público Federal (2012-2014). Além disso, a pesquisa incorporou para a análise alguns períodos específicos da luta da família Paiva, como o pedido de investigação feito por Eunice Paiva no Conselho dos Direitos da Pessoa Humana (CDDPH), em 1971, e depois em 1979. A análise sobre os procedimentos do caso Rubens Paiva permitiu encontrar representações dos paradoxos com as quais as vítimas de violações de direitos humanos foram tratadas em contextos distintos desde o regime militar, exemplificando os ciclos dessa luta.

Foram realizados dois experimentos no setor de Ovinocultura da Fazenda Experimental da Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso, com objetivo de avaliar o efeito da substituição parcial da silagem de milho por bagaço de cana de açúcar in natura (BCIN) sobre os consumos, digestibilidades aparente dos componentes nutritivos, parametros ruminais, síntese de nitrogênio microbiano, balanço de nitrogênio, desempenho e viabilidade econômica. As dietas foram compostas por 40% de volumoso e 60% de concentrado. A silagem de milho foi substituída por BCIN em 0; 17,5; 35,0; 52,5 e 70%, o que correspondeu a 0,7, 14, 21 e 28% de inclusão nas dietas. No primeiro experimento foram utilizados 40 cordeiros sem raça definida, machos não castrados, com idade aproximada 105 dias e peso médio inicial de 20,16±0,59 kg, distribuídos em 20 baias de 4,06 m² cada. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento em blocos casualizados com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições.O consumo de matéria seca (MS) não foi alterado nos tratamentos avaliacos, enquanto que os consumos de fibra em detergente neutro (FDN) e fibra em detergente neutro corrigido para cinzas e proteína (FDNcp) assim como as digestibilidades da MS, proteína bruta e FDN aumentaram linearmente (P<0,05) em consequência da maior participação do BCIN nas dietas. A inclusão crescente de BCIN reduziu o ganho médio diário, e o melhor custo benefício foi observado com a substituição do BCIN em 7%. No segundo experimento foram utilizados cinco ovinos machos castrados, adultos, canulados no rúmen com peso médio inicial de 65±2,07 kg, distribuídos em delineamento em quadrado latino 5 x 5. As inclusões de BCIN não influenciaram (P<0,05) digestibilidade da MS, mas as digestibilidades da FDN, FDNcp e carboidatos totais descresceram linearmente. O pH ruminal e NAR não foram influenciados (P<0,05) pela adição do BCIN, com médias de 6,16 e 8,03 mg/dL, respectivamente. As excreções de derivados de purinas não foram influenciadas, com excreção de purinas totais de 29,67 mmol/dia, resultando em 25,68 g/dia de N microbiano. O consumo e as perdas de nitrogênio variaram com quantidades acima de 14% de BCIN na dieta. Diante do desempenho nutricional e animal, a substituição da silagem de milho por BCIN em até 7% reduz os custos e melhora a margem bruta na terminação de cordeiros.
Two experiments were conducted in the Sheep section of the Experimental Farm of the Federal University of Mato Grosso, to evaluate the effect of partial replacement of corn silage by sugar cane bagasse in natura (BIN) on intake, apparent digestibility of components nutritious, ruminal parameters, synthesis of microbial nitrogen, nitrogen balance, performance and economic viability. The diets were composed of 40 % forage and 60 % concentrate. Corn silage was replaced by BCIN on 0; 17.5; 35.0; 52.5 and 70 %, corresponding to 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28% inclusion in the diet. In the first experiment 40 lambs mixed breed, neutered males, aged approximately 105 days and an average initial weight of 20.16 ± 0.59 kg were divided into 20 pens of 4.06 m² each were used. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with five treatments and four repetições.The intake of dry matter (DM) was not altered in treatments evaluated, whereas the intake of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and neutral detergent fiber corrected for ash and protein (NDF) as well as the digestibility of DM, CP and NDF increased linearly (P < 0.05) as a result of increased participation in the BCIN diets. The increasing inclusion of BIN reduced average daily gain, and the best cost benefit was observed with the substitution of BIN 7%. In the second experiment, five male sheep, adults, cannulated in the rumen with an average initial weight of 65 ± 2.07 kg, allotted to a 5 x 5 Latin square were used. BIN The inclusions did not influence (P < 0.05) DM digestibility, but apparent digestibility of NDF, NDF and total carboidatos descresceram linearly. The NAR and ruminal pH were not affected (P < 0.05) by the addition of BIN, with averages of 6.16 and 8.03 mg/dL, respectively. Excretion of purine derivatives were not affected, with excretion of total purine 29.67 mmol/day, resulting in 25.68 g/day of microbial N. Consumption and nitrogen losses varied with quantities greater than 14% of the BIN diet. Given the nutritional and animal performance, the substitution of corn silage BIN by up to 7% reduces costs and improves gross margin in lamb finishing.

The chapter begins by reviewing the ruminal effects of essential oils, drawing specific attention to their mechanisms of action, how targets are selected to modulate ruminal fermentation to improve efficiency and the effects that essential oils have on rumen fermentation both in vitro and in vivo. The chapter also discusses the post ruminal effects of essential oils, their impact on dairy cattle performance and the current problems farmers are facing in the use of essential oils in dairy cattle feeding. A case study using in vitro batch fermentation studies is also included.

Abstract What is the status of miracle in Jewish thought? Here, the source text is not a selection from the Talmud, but a poem by Israeli poet Yehuda Amachai, referencing God’s promise to Abraham about his children. We think about a case of a newborn baby with a fatal neurological condition born to a religious Jewish family. A full discussion of futility, as written about by my colleague, Susan Rubin, is part of the chapter. We will consider the details of how a case is considered within the traditional remit of Orthodox Jewish law in the United States, which follows the classic form of a shilah, or question, and a responsa from an expert in halacha and medicine. We will see how the dynamics of pediatric medicine work when legacy and progeny are at stake. Then we return to Talmudic text about miracles and reflect on their role in religious belief.

Kajian pustaka ini memberikan informasi karakteristik, dampak negatif, dan potensi aditif, dan efek positif dari penggunaan antinutrisi nitrat. Antinutrisi merupakan komponen senyawa metabolit sekunder yang terkandung di dalam tanaman dan dapat membahayakan ternak. Dampak negatif dari nitrat diantaranya keracunan pada ternak akibat reduksi nitrat dalam darah membentuk methamoglobin (MetHb) dan berpotensi menyebabkan keguguran pada ternak bunting akibat hypoxia. Meskipun demikian, nitrat dalam konsentrasi rendah dapat digunakan sebagai aditif pakan dan berdampak positif bagi produktifitas ternak. Pemanfaatan nitrat dalam bahan pakan hijauan bermanfaat sebagai agen defaunasi pada rumen ternak ruminansia. Penurunan populasi protozoa dalam rumen dapat meningkatkan kecernaan serat kasar sehingga bersifat menguntungkan karena terjadinya efisiensi produksi dan meningkatnya pertumbuhan ternak. Efek positif bagi lingkungan dengan adanya defaunasi adalah menurunkan emisi gas metan sebagai hasil dari proses metabolisme ternak ruminansia. Kesimpulan dari tulisan ini adalah senyawa antinutrisi pada pakan disamping memiliki dampak negatif, juga besar kemungkinan memiliki potensi yang dapat dimanfaatkan baik bagi ternak maupun lingkungan.

This work presents an assessment of classical and state of the art reduced order modelling (ROM) techniques to enhance the computational efficiency for dynamic analysis of jointed structures with local contact nonlinearities. These ROM methods include classical free interface method (Rubin method, MacNeal method), fixed interface method (Craig-Bampton), Dual Craig-Bampton (DCB) method and also recently developed joint interface mode (JIM) and trial vector derivative (TVD) approaches. A finite element jointed beam model is considered as the test case taking into account two different setups: one with a linearized spring joint and the other with a nonlinear macro-slip contact friction joint. Using these ROM techniques, the accuracy of dynamic behaviors and their computational expense are compared separately. We also studied the effect of excitation levels, joint region size and number of modes on the performance of these ROM methods.

Abstract Scientists have for long been attempting to put forth a mathematical model which could explain the flow of blood through arteries. The study of flow through rubes began as early as in 1839 with the volume flow rate equations put forth by Hagen. Another formulation was suggested by Poiseuille, which resulted in the Poiseuille’s law of Fluid Flow through circular tubes. Rubinow & Keller incorporated the elastic nature of the tubes in their paper of 1971 wherein an equation for the flow of a Newtonian fluid through an elastic tube was developed. Mazumdar generalized the model proposed by Rubinow & Keller for Non Newtonian flow. Though the above models can be made use of to study the flow of blood through arteries after several simplifying assumptions, a realistic mathematical model must necessarily account for various anomalous properties exhibited by blood. This paper puts forth a model, which incorporates experimentally observed, atypical behavior demonstrated by blood under special conditions of flow. The model is then shown to be a generalized case of the models put forth previously.

The upcoming surveys from both Rubin/LSST and Euclid will uncover millions of previously unknown AGN. However, due to the massive amount of data collected each night, it is essential to develop reliable tools that can efficiently identify quasars among billions of stars and inactive galaxies. I will discuss the results of different machine-learning based selection algorithms, including probabilistic random forests, gradient boosting, convolutional neural networks (CNN) and AutoEncoders (AE). These algorithms were applied both to real (SDSS, PANSTARRS) and mock catalogs exploiting photometry, images and light curves. I will specifically focus on the selection of luminous and high-redshift (z > 2.5) QSOs. Given the low space density of these sources, it is critical to have a selection rate as complete as possible, to better constrain the high-z luminosity function and, in the case of the even rarer z>6 QSOs, to estimate their contribution to reionization. I will highlight how, thanks to ML algorithms we can make use of all the available information and outperform traditional selection criteria based on cuts in the color-color diagram and discuss how the number of available features affects the accuracy of the results.

Considering rotational speed-dependent stiffness for vibrational analysis of friction-damped bladed disk models has proven to lead to significant improvements in nonlinear frequency response curve computations. The accuracy of the result is driven by a suitable choice of reduction bases. Multi-model reduction combines various bases which are valid for different parameter values. This composition reduces the solution error drastically. The resulting set of equations is typically solved by means of the harmonic balance method. Nonlinear forces are regularized by a Lagrangian approach embedded in an alternating frequency/time domain method providing the Fourier coefficients for the frequency domain solution. The aim of this paper is to expand the multi-model approach to address rotational speed-dependent contact situations. Various reduction bases derived from composing Craig-Bampton, Rubin-Martinez, and hybrid interface methods will be investigated with respect to their applicability to capture the changing contact situation correctly. The methods validity is examined based on small academic examples as well as large-scale industrial blade models. Coherent results show that the multi-model composition works successfully, even if multiple different reduction bases are used per sample point of variable rotational speed. This is an important issue in case that a contact situation for a specific value of the speed is uncertain forcing the algorithm to automatically choose a suitable basis. Additionally, the randomized singular value decomposition is applied to rapidly extract an appropriate multi-model basis. This approach improves the computational performance by orders of magnitude compared to the standard singular value decomposition, while preserving the ability to provide a best rank approximation.

O Sarcoma de Kaposi (SK) é uma neoplasia angioproliferativa maligna associada à infecção pelo HHV-8. A partir de 1980, foi descrita uma forma com maior prevalência em homossexuais masculinos, relacionados ao HIV. A apresentação clínica da doença faz-se por meio de lesões vermelhas, violáceas (roxas) ou marrons, desde máculas, pápulas, até nódulos e tumores. O presente trabalho se propôs a relatar o caso de um paciente de 43 anos, atendido inicialmente na atenção primária em janeiro de 2023, referindo diarreia desde setembro de 2022 e perda ponderal de 10 kg, associadas a múltiplas lesões cutâneas, incluindo manchas, pápulas e placas eritemato-violáceas pelo tronco, pelos membros superiores e inferiores. Foram solicitados testes rápidos (TR) para HIV e sífilis, ambos reagentes. A terapia antirretroviral (TARV) foi iniciada, bem como a penicilina benzatina. Pela demora em coletar os exames iniciais, não foi possível saber o nadir de CD4 do paciente. Como não houve melhora das lesões cutâneas, foi então encaminhado ao Instituto de Dermatologia Prof. Rubem David Azulay em março de 2023, onde foi realizada biópsia de dois fragmentos de pele, com confirmação do diagnóstico de SK. Em 03 de maio de 2023, CD4: 517 (18%) e carga viral indetectável. Foi encaminhado ao Instituto Nacional de Infectologia Evandro Chagas (INI)/Fiocruz para avaliação de tratamento quimioterápico. Realizou endoscopia digestiva alta e colonoscopia, que revelou proctite ulcerada acentuada. Iniciou então a quimioterapia com Paclitaxel em 15 de maio de 2023, com boa resposta ao antineoplásico e involução completa das lesões. O manejo do SK em pacientes com HIV geralmente envolve a TARV e, quando necessário, tratamento quimioterápico específico. A despeito de redução na incidência de SK, se comparado ao início da epidemia de HIV, a doença ainda se manifesta. Diante de tal constatação, é imperioso solicitar anti-HIV para qualquer paciente apresentando lesão violácea, sem outro diagnóstico. O diagnóstico precoce da infecção pelo HIV pode alterar a morbimortalidade e evitar doenças relacionadas à imunossupressão, como o SK. Nesse cenário, é fundamental a devida capacitação do médico quanto às lesões típicas da doença em voga, que podem ser identificadas na anamnese e no exame físico, conduzindo a um melhor direcionamento e à maior assertividade da investigação clínica a ser realizada.
