OBJECTIVE Bottom-of-sulcus dysplasia (BOSD) is challenging to identify radiologically. The aim of this study was to explore seizure outcomes after resective surgery or MR-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRgLITT) in children with BOSD. METHODS Children with radiologically defined BOSD who underwent resective surgery or MRgLITT, with at least 1 year of follow-up were included. Clinical, radiological, neurophysiological, and histological data were extracted from medical records. Invasive video EEG (IVEEG) was used to evaluate the ictal onset zone or motor/language mapping, wherever appropriate. Histology of MRI-visible BOSD, including the overlying and adjacent cortex, was also evaluated. RESULTS Forty-one children with BOSD underwent surgical treatment. The lesion was initially overlooked on MRI in 20 patients (48.8%). Of 34 patients who underwent IVEEG and who had available ictal data, the ictal onset zone extended beyond the MRI-visible BOSD in 23 patients (67.6%). Surgical treatment included lesionectomy (24 patients), extended lesionectomy (12 patients), lobectomy (1 patient), and ablation of BOSD (4 patients). The pathology in 37 patients who underwent resection showed focal cortical dysplasia type IIB and type IIA in 21 (53.8%) and 16 patients (41%), respectively. Seizure freedom was achieved in 32 patients (78.1%) after a mean follow-up of 4.3 years. CONCLUSIONS Seizure outcomes after resective surgery or MRgLITT in children with BOSD were generally favorable. The authors found that the neurophysiological abnormality and pathology often extended beyond the MRI-visible BOSD.

Background and ObjectivesTo identify white matter fiber tracts that exhibit structural abnormality in patients with bottom-of-sulcus dysplasia (BOSD) and investigate their association with seizure activity.MethodsWhole-brain fixel-based analysis of diffusion MRI data was performed to identify white matter fiber tracts with significant reductions in fiber density and cross-section in patients with BOSD (n = 20) when compared to healthy control participants (n = 40). Results from whole-brain analysis were used to investigate the association of fiber tract abnormality with seizure frequency and epilepsy duration.ResultsDespite the focal nature of the dysplasia, patients with BOSD showed widespread abnormality in white matter fiber tracts, including the bilateral corticospinal, corticothalamic, and cerebellothalamic tracts, superior longitudinal fasciculi, corpus callosum (body), and the forceps major. This pattern of bilateral connectivity reduction was not related to the laterality of the lesion. Exploratory post hoc analyses showed that high seizure frequency was associated with greater reduction in fiber density at the forceps major, bilateral corticospinal, and cerebellothalamic tracts.DiscussionWe demonstrate evidence of a bilaterally distributed, specific white matter network that is vulnerable to disruption in BOSD. The degree of tract abnormality is partly related to seizure activity, but additional contributors such as the genetic background and effects of treatment or environment have not been excluded.

ObjectiveTo determine whether 1-stage, limited corticectomy controls seizures in patients with MRI-positive, bottom-of-sulcus dysplasia (BOSD).MethodsWe reviewed clinical, neuroimaging, electrocorticography (ECoG), operative, and histopathology findings in consecutively operated patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy and MRI-positive BOSD, all of whom underwent corticectomy guided by MRI and ECoG.ResultsThirty-eight patients with a median age at surgery of 10.2 (interquartile range [IQR] 6.0–14.1) years were included. BOSDs involved eloquent cortex in 15 patients. Eighty-seven percent of patients had rhythmic spiking on preresection ECoG. Rhythmic spiking was present in 22 of 24 patients studied with combined depth and surface electrodes, being limited to the dysplastic sulcus in 7 and involving the dysplastic sulcus and gyral crown in 15. Sixty-eight percent of resections were limited to the dysplastic sulcus, leaving the gyral crown. Histopathology was focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) type IIb in 29 patients and FCDIIa in 9. Dysmorphic neurons were present in the bottom of the sulcus but not the top or the gyral crown in 17 of 22 patients. Six (16%) patients required reoperation for postoperative seizures and residual dysplasia; reoperation was not correlated with ECoG, neuroimaging, or histologic abnormalities in the gyral crown. At a median 6.3 (IQR 4.8–9.9) years of follow-up, 33 (87%) patients are seizure-free, 31 off antiseizure medication.ConclusionBOSD can be safely and effectively resected with MRI and ECoG guidance, corticectomy potentially being limited to the dysplastic sulcus, without need for intracranial EEG monitoring and functional mapping.Classification of EvidenceThis study provides Class IV evidence that 1-stage, limited corticectomy for BOSD is safe and effective for control of seizures.

ObjectiveTo determine the genetic basis of bottom-of-sulcus dysplasia (BOSD), which is a highly focal and epileptogenic cortical malformation in which the imaging, electrophysiologic, and pathologic abnormalities are maximal at the bottom of sulcus, tapering to a normal gyral crown.MethodsTargeted panel deep sequencing (>500×) was performed on paired blood and brain-derived genomic DNA from 20 operated patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy and BOSD. Histopathology was assessed using immunohistochemistry.ResultsBrain-specific pathogenic somatic variants were found in 6 patients and heterozygous pathogenic germline variants were found in 2. Somatic variants were identified in MTOR and germline variants were identified in DEPDC5 and NPRL3. Two patients with somatic MTOR variants showed a mutation gradient, with higher mutation load at the bottom of sulcus compared to the gyral crown. Immunohistochemistry revealed an abundance of dysmorphic neurons and balloon cells in the bottom of sulcus but not in the gyral crown or adjacent gyri.ConclusionsBOSD is associated with mTOR pathway dysregulation and shares common genetic etiologies and pathogenic mechanisms with other forms of focal and hemispheric cortical dysplasia, suggesting these disorders are on a genetic continuum.

Abstract A field experiment was conducted in the Al-Mashroo area / Al-Hamzawi, affiliated to Al-Musayyib district, located 35 km north of Babylon, in order to know the effect of bio-fertilizer and pesticide spraying on potato yield and its quality traits under the influence of different irrigation periods. The experiment was conducted according to a split-split plot design within the (Randomized Complete Block Design) RCBD with three replicates. The experiment included three factors, the first factor is the irrigation periods (5, 7, and 9) days, which represent the main plots. The second factor is biofertilizer with three levels (control treatment without adding CO, inoculation treatment with rhizobia R, inoculation treatment with mycorrhizal M) and the sub-plots are represented. The third factor is metribuzin with four levels (no addition of CO, pre-emergence, post-emergence, late post-emergence) and the sub-sub plots are represented. The results of the statistical analysis showed that the pre-emergence and post-emergence treatments were significantly superior in the number of stems, chlorophyll content in leaves and leaf area, and the fertilizer treatment (Myco) and chlorophyll content in leaves were excelled, and the number of leaves reached (23.06 and 24.66 SPAD, 28.10 and 29.15 (leaf.plant-1) The irrigation treatment every 7 days was significantly excelled in the number of leaves and leaf area (30.25 and 31.35 leaf.plant-1, 193.5 and 195.5 cm2). PurposeThe purpose of this research is to analyse the LSQ in the context of three different omni-channel purchasing scenarios while considering four dimensions (timeliness, availability, condition and return of the product) and to assess their impact on customer satisfaction and loyalty. In addition, an evaluation of the relationship between satisfaction and loyalty in the mentioned omni-channel scenarios is investigated.Design/methodology/approachA mixed two-phase research methodology is proposed: an initial qualitative analysis with six focus groups followed by quantitative research through surveys with a sample of 323 individuals. The proposed scales were tested for three purchase scenarios: “buy-online-ship-direct” (BOSD), “buy-online-pickup-in-store” (BOPS) and “buy-in-store-ship-direct” (BSSD). The data were analysed using partial-least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) techniques.FindingsIn an omni-channel context, the most important element of the logistics service deriving in satisfaction was timeliness for all the scenarios. The return-of-product dimension of LSQ was relevant for satisfaction in “ship-direct” scenarios, while the availability dimension was only relevant for customer loyalty in the BOPS scenario. Customer satisfaction had a positive impact on loyalty in the three purchasing scenarios.Practical implicationsThese results might provide guidance to managers in order to improve not only logistics procedures and processes but also their relationships with their customers. Moreover, retailers need to account for return policies in ship-direct channels, prioritize punctuality and adapt delivery terms to ensure product availability.Originality/valueThis work represents a progress in LSQ research in the B2C omni-channel environment by extending its study to a previously untested purchasing scenario (BOSD) and including a fundamental and insufficiently explored dimension of the LSQ: the return.

SIX1 and SIX2 encode closely related transcription factors of which disruptions have been associated with distinct craniofacial syndromes, with mutations in SIX1 associated with branchiootic syndrome 3 (BOS3) and heterozygous deletions of SIX2 associated with frontonasal dysplasia defects. Whereas mice deficient in Six1 recapitulated most of the developmental defects associated with BOS3, mice lacking Six2 function had no obvious frontonasal defects. We show that Six1 and Six2 exhibit partly overlapping patterns of expression in the developing mouse embryonic frontonasal, maxillary, and mandibular processes. We found that Six1 –/– Six2 –/– double-mutant mice were born with severe craniofacial deformity not seen in the Six1 –/– or Six2 –/– single mutants, including skull bone agenesis, midline facial cleft, and syngnathia. Moreover, whereas Six1 –/– mice exhibited partial transformation of maxillary zygomatic bone into a mandibular condyle-like structure, Six1 –/–Six2 +/– mice exhibit significantly increased penetrance of the maxillary malformation. In addition to ectopic Dlx5 expression at the maxillary-mandibular junction as recently reported in E10.5 Six1 –/– embryos, the E10.5 Six1 –/– Six2 +/– embryos showed ectopic expression of Bmp4, Msx1, and Msx2 messenger RNAs in the maxillary-mandibular junction. Genetically inactivating 1 allele of either Ednra or Bmp4 significantly reduced the penetrance of maxillary malformation in both Six1 –/– and Six1 –/– Six2 +/– embryos, indicating that Six1 and Six2 regulate both endothelin and bone morphogenetic protein-4 signaling pathways to pattern the facial structures. Furthermore, we show that neural crest–specific inactivation of Six1 in Six2 –/– embryos resulted in midline facial cleft and frontal bone agenesis. We show that Six1 –/– Six2 –/– embryos exhibit significantly reduced expression of key frontonasal development genes Alx1 and Alx3 as well as increased apoptosis in the developing frontonasal mesenchyme. Together, these results indicate that Six1 and Six2 function partly redundantly to control multiple craniofacial developmental processes and play a crucial neural crest cell–autonomous role in frontonasal morphogenesis.

We report a case of rapid onset of severe twin–twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) at 25 weeks gestation in a monochorionic twin pregnancy that was uneventful before that time. Thrombosis of a main venous branch draining several arteriovenous (AV) anastomoses to the donor changed the previous hemodynamic balance that existed between multiple bidirectional AV anastomoses. The opposing AVs became hemodynamically uncompensated and, despite amnioreductions, severe TTTS developed. At 27 weeks a cesarean section was performed because of worsening cardiotocography parameters of both fetuses. Birth weights were 750 and 1840 g, and initial hemoglobin concentrations were 9.2 and 13.4 mmol/liter for donor and recipient, respectively. The recipient twin died 5 months later of an ischemic, necrotic, and perforated small intestine due to a throm-bosed superior mesenteric artery. The donor is well at 2.5 years. No abnormalities in several factors associated with thrombophilia, including factor V Leiden mutations, were found in the parents.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of selenium (Se) treatment on the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the expressions of related genes in broccoli. To achieve this, one group of broccoli heads was treated with a selenite solution of 2 mg L−1, while another group was soaked in distilled water, serving as the control. The effects of these treatments were evaluated by analyzing the browning, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, enzyme activity, and gene expression levels of WARK and RBOH. Our results show that the Se treatment effectively inhibited H2O2 accumulation in the broccoli and reduced harmful MDA levels. The inhibition of ROS accumulation following the Se treatment was associated with enhanced activity of the CAT and SOD enzymes, increased expression levels of BoCAT and BoSOD, and decreased expression levels of the WRKY and RBOH transcription factors. Our study provides insights into the mechanism of action of selenium and its potential application in vegetable storage.

cloud computing has become more powerful with the inclusion of software-defined networking (SDN) in its environment. In Cloud Data Centers (CDCs), an important research issue is how to forecast and allocate resources efficiently whilst achieving Quality of Service (QoS) of users request with minimal overall power consumption; taking into account the frequent changes in resource requirements. In this paper, we propose a Supervisor Controller-based Software-Defined Cloud Data Center (SC-boSD-CDC) framework for dynamic resource allocation and prediction of cloud computing-based SDN. In this proposed module, Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed to deal with the multi-objective problem of dynamically forecasting the utilization of resources in both compute nodes and links bandwidth of network as well as energy consumption in the Cloud Data Center (CDC). Furthermore, a Virtual Machines (VMs) placement algorithm is also proposed to allocate computing resources and routing algorithms to choose the proper bandwidth links between switches; resulting in increased CPU and memory utilization and reduction in overall power consumption.

The cotton leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis (Bosid.), is a major pest in African and Asian nations that attacks a wide variety of host plants. This study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of effective microorganisms (EMs) on the biological and physiological features of S. littoralis larvae. Five concentrations (100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 ppm) of EMs were tested. Antifeedant activity, food consumption index, the efficiency of converting digested food, the efficiency of converting ingested food, relative growth rate, and approximate body tissue of the fourth larval instar of S. littoralis were determined. Moreover, carbohydrate enzyme activities (amylase, trehalose, and invertase), total protein, and total lipids of S. littoralis larvae were measured to elucidate the mode of action of the tested agent in the S. littoralis’s larval stage. The EMs at 500 ppm had a substantial impact on antifeedant activity, nutritional indices, egg deposit reduction, and hatchability in S. littoralis during the five days. All concentrations interrupted S. littoralis’s life cycle and developmental phases. Furthermore, all concentrations were quite useful in lengthening the developmental stages of S. littoralis. In addition, Ems affected the biochemical activities of larvae, leading to disturbances in carbohydrate, lipid, and protein levels. From this study, EMs can be used as a bioinsecticide alternative to traditional insecticides against S. littoralis and may be compatible with integrated pest management approaches.

Abstract Purpose Bottom-of-sulcus dysplasia (BOSD) is a type of focal cortical dysplasia and an important cause of intractable epilepsy. While the MRI features of BOSD have been well documented, the contribution of PET to the identification of these small lesions has not been widely explored. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) PET in the identification of BOSD. Methods Twenty patients with BOSD underwent both 18F-FDG PET and structural MRI scans as part of preoperative planning for surgery. Visual PET analysis was performed, and patients were classified as positive if they exhibited a focal or regional hypometabolic abnormality, or negative in the absence of a hypometabolic abnormality. MRI data were reviewed to determine if any structural abnormality characteristic of BOSD were observed before and after co-registration with PET findings. Results PET detected hypometabolic abnormalities consistent with the seizure focus location in 95% (19/20) of cases. Focal abnormalities were detected on 18F-FDG PET in 12/20 (60%) patients, while regional hypometabolism was evident in 7/20 (35%). BOSD lesions were missed in 20% (4/20) of cases upon initial review of MRI scans. Co-registration of 18F-FDG PET with MRI enabled detection of the BOSD in all four cases where the lesion was initially missed. Conclusion Our findings show that 18F-FDG PET provides additional clinical value in the localisation and detection of BOSD lesions, when used in conjunction with MRI.

Abstract Bottom-of-sulcus dysplasia (BOSD) is increasingly recognised as a cause of drug-resistant, surgically-remediable, focal epilepsy, often in seemingly MRI-negative patients. We describe the clinical manifestations, morphological features, localisation patterns, and genetics of BOSD, with the aims of improving management and understanding pathogenesis. We studied 85 patients with BOSD diagnosed between 2005-2022. Presenting seizure and EEG characteristics, clinical course, genetic findings, and treatment response were obtained from medical records. 3T-MRI and 18F-FDG-PET scans were reviewed systematically for BOSD morphology and metabolism. Histopathological analysis and tissue genetic testing were performed in 64 operated patients. BOSD locations were transposed to common imaging space to study anatomical location, functional network localisation, and relationship to normal MTOR gene expression. All patients presented with stereotyped focal seizures with rapidly escalating frequency, prompting hospitalisation in 48%. Despite 42% patients having seizure remissions, usually with sodium channel blocking medications, most eventually became drug-resistant and underwent surgery (86% seizure-free). Prior developmental delay was uncommon but intellectual, language and executive dysfunction were present in 24%, 48% and 29% when assessed preoperatively, low intellect being associated with greater epilepsy duration. BOSDs were missed on initial MRI in 68%, being ultimately recognised following repeat MRI, 18F-FDG-PET or image post-processing. MRI features were grey-white junction blurring (100%), cortical thickening (91%), transmantle band (62%), increased cortical T1 signal (46%) and increased subcortical FLAIR signal (26%). BOSD hypometabolism was present on 18F-FDG-PET in 99%. Additional areas of cortical malformation or grey matter heterotopia were present in eight patients. BOSDs predominated in frontal and pericentral cortex and related functional networks, mostly sparing temporal and occipital cortex, and limbic and visual networks. Genetic testing yielded pathogenic mTOR pathway variants in 63% patients, including somatic MTOR variants in 47% operated patients and germline DEPDC5 or NPRL3 variants in 73% patients with familial focal epilepsy. BOSDs tended to occur in regions where the healthy brain normally shows lower MTOR expression, suggesting these regions may be more vulnerable to up-regulation of MTOR activity. Consistent with the existing literature, these results highlight (1) clinical features raising suspicion of BOSD, (2) the role of somatic and germline mTOR pathway variants in patients with sporadic and familial focal epilepsy associated with BOSD and (3) the role of 18F-FDG-PET alongside high-field MRI in detecting subtle BOSD. The anatomical and functional distribution of BOSDs likely explain their seizure, EEG, and cognitive manifestations, and may relate to relative MTOR expression.

AbstractObjectivePatients with focal, lesional epilepsy present with seizures at variable ages. Larger lesion size and overlap with sensorimotor or default mode network (DMN) have been associated with younger age at seizure onset in cohorts with mixed types of focal cortical dysplasia (FCD). Here, we studied determinants of age at seizure onset in patients with bottom‐of‐sulcus dysplasia (BOSD), a discrete type of FCD with highly localized epileptogenicity.MethodsEighty‐four patients (77% operated) with BOSD were studied. Demographic, histopathologic, and genetic findings were recorded. BOSD volume and anatomical, primary versus association, rostral versus caudal, and functional network locations were determined. Normative functional connectivity analyses were performed using each BOSD as a region of interest in resting‐state functional magnetic resonance imaging data of healthy children. Variables were correlated with age at seizure onset.ResultsMedian age at seizure onset was 5.4 (interquartile range = 2–7.9) years. Of 50 tested patients, 22 had somatic and nine had germline pathogenic mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway variants. Younger age at seizure onset was associated with greater BOSD volume (p = .002), presence of a germline pathogenic variant (p = .04), DMN overlap (p = .04), and increased functional connectivity with the DMN (p < .05, false discovery rate corrected). Location within sensorimotor cortex and networks was not associated with younger age at seizure onset in our relatively small but homogenous cohort.SignificanceGreater lesion size, pathogenic mTOR pathway germline variants, and DMN connectivity are associated with younger age at seizure onset in small FCD. Our findings strengthen the suggested role of DMN connectivity in the onset of FCD‐related focal epilepsy and reveal novel contributions of genetic etiology.

AbstractThe recording of epileptiform discharges from bottom‐of‐sulcus focal cortical dysplasia (BOSD) is often difficult during intraoperative electrocorticography (ECoG) due to the deep localization. We describe the use in this scenario of a new‐generation electrode strip with high flexibility, easily adapted to cortical gyri and sulci. A right‐handed 20‐year‐old male with drug‐resistant focal epilepsy due to BOSD of the inferior frontal gyrus and daily focal aware seizures was evaluated for epilepsy surgery. Based on electroclinical and neuroimaging results, a focal cortectomy guided by ECoG was proposed. ECoG recordings were performed with new‐generation cortical strips (Wise Cortical Strip; WCS®) and standard cortical strips. ECoG, performed on the convexity of the frontal cortical surface, recorded only sporadic spikes with both types of strips. Then, after microsurgical trans‐sulcal dissection, WCS was molded along the sulcal surface of the suspected BOSD based on 3D‐imaging reconstruction, showing continuous/subcontinuous 3–4‐Hz rhythmic spike activity from the deepest electrode. Registration after resection of the BOSD did not show any epileptiform activity. Pathology showed dysmorphic neurons and gliosis. No surgical complications occurred. The patient is seizure‐free after 12 months. This single case experience shows that highly flexible electrode strips with adaptability to cortical gyrations can identify IEDs originating from deep location and could therefore be useful in cases of bottom of the sulcus dysplasia.

Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) is a congenital developmental malformation and is one of the leading causes of drug-resistant focal epilepsy (DRFE). Although focal epilepsies traditionally have been regarded as acquired disorders, increasing evidence suggests a substantial genetic contribution to the pathogenesis of focal structural epilepsies, including FCDs. Mutations in the Dishevelled, Egl-10 and domain-containing protein 5 (DEPDC5) have recently emerged as a causative gene mutation in familial focal epilepsies associated with FCD type 2a, including Bottom of sulcus dysplasia (BOSD). We present a case of a 20-year-old man with DRFE, positive for DEPDC5 c.1555C>T (p.GIn519*) heterozygous pathogenic variant. Initial 3T brain MRI was unrevealing, but subsequent 7T MRI including 7T edge-enhancing gradient echo (EDGE), revealed a left superior frontal sulcus BOSD concordant with the electroclinical data. The patient underwent treatment with MR-guided laser interstitial thermal ablation of the left frontal BOSD without intracranial EEG monitoring ("skipped candidate”), resulting in a seizure-free outcome of nine months since the last follow-up. Our case highlights the real-world application of summative information obtained through advancements in epilepsy–genetic testing, minimally invasive surgeries, and ultra-high field MRI, allowing us to provide a safe and effective treatment for a patient with a genetic DRFE.

Purpose In large-scale environments, LIO-SAM (Tightly-coupled Lidar Inertial Odometry via Smoothing and Mapping) exhibits poor robustness due to the accumulation of errors caused by factors such as the prevalence of similar surroundings and the lack of features in certain open areas. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to optimize the loop detection module of LIO-SAM to reduce error accumulation and enhance mapping and localization performance. Design/methodology/approach Based on the LIO-SAM framework, the LinK3D (Linear Keypoints Representation for 3D LiDAR Point Cloud) feature extraction algorithm is integrated in the front end, while the BoW3D (Bag of Words for Real-Time Loop Closing in 3D LiDAR SLAM) loop detection algorithm is integrated in the back end. The features extracted by LinK3D serve as the range factors for the LiDAR, the BoW3D generates loop closure factors and these, along with inertial measurement unit (IMU) preintegration factors and global positioning system (GPS) factors, are added to the factor graph of LIO-SAM. This addition of constraints enhances the mapping and localization effects, optimizing the overall mapping and localization performance. Findings Based on the electrically controlled car, experiments were conducted in the experimental scenario proposed in this paper. Compared to LIO-SAM, the method presented in this paper significantly reduces cumulative errors. While ensuring real-time performance, it demonstrates superior mapping and localization effects. Originality/value This paper proposes and validates a method that integrates LinK3D, BoW3D and LIO-SAM, named LB-LIOSAM, which enhances the accuracy of feature extraction, optimizes the loop detection module of LIO-SAM and improves its mapping and localization performance in specific environmental scenarios.

AbstractObjectiveThis study assessed the efficacy and safety of magnetic resonance‐guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRgLITT) versus open surgery (OS) for the treatment of patients with bottom‐of‐sulcus dysplasia (BOSD)‐related epilepsy.MethodsTwenty‐two patients underwent MRgLITT, while 39 underwent OS. Postoperative seizure‐free rates were analyzed using Kaplan–Meier curves. The removal ratio, which represents the extent of damage, was calculated based on preoperative lesion volume and postoperative removal volume. Other outcomes, including adverse events, operative time, and hospital stay, were also compared.ResultsKaplan–Meier curves indicated the seizure‐free rates were comparable between the MRgLITT group (90.9%, 26.5 [23.0, 35.1] months) and OS group (89.7%, 25.2 [16.2, 34.6] months) at the final follow‐up (p = 0.901, log‐rank test). The removal ratio of MRgLITT (1.3 [1.1, 1.7]) was significantly lower (p = 0.007) than that of OS (5.8 [3.6, 8.5]). A comparison of postoperative neurological deficits, infection rates, and fever rates revealed no significant differences between MRgLITT and OS groups. The operative time (hours) of MRgLITT (3.0, [2.1, 4.9]) was significantly shorter (p = 0.007) than that of OS (3.5 [3.0, 4.5]). The hospital stay (days) after MRgLITT (6 [5.0, 7.5]) was significantly shorter (p < 0.001) than that of OS (11.0 [9.0, 13.5]).InterpretationMRgLITT has advantages over OS, including comparable seizure control and adverse event profiles, along with reduced removal ratios, shorter operative time, and shorter hospital stays.

AbstractBiscuits are the largest category of consumed snacks among bakery products, but their simple sugar and fat high content associate to low fiber content make them unsuitable for diabetics. This study aimed to formulate biscuits with low glycaemic index from the blend of unripe banana, okra and stevia leaves or jujube fruit for diabetics. To achieve this goal, unripe banana, fresh okra, stevia leaves and jujube fruits were purchased from a main market in Ngaoundere and processed into flours. Proximate composition of the flours was determined, and then, Design Expert software was used to formulate two different blends, Banana/Okra/Stevia (BOS) and Banana/Okra/Jujube (BOJ). According to the results of preliminary sensory tests done in the laboratory, three biscuits with stevia (BOS1, BOS2, BOS3), three biscuits with jujube (BOJ1, BOJ2, BOJ3), and a witness biscuit with table sugar as sweetener were formulated. After the physicochemical characterisation of formulated biscuits, animal experimentation was carried out in order to evaluate the postprandial evolution of blood glucose in rats after having ingested the biscuits, and the Glycaemic Index (GI) of produced biscuits. A hedonic test with 30 consumers was done, parameters assessed including colour, texture, taste, flavour, and overall acceptability. The results obtained show that unripe banana is mostly made of complex carbohydrates, while okra and stevia are good sources of fibers, confirming their importance in diabetic’s diet. All the biscuits produced with stevia and jujube did not raise the blood glucose compared to the witness biscuit made with table sugar. Biscuits produced with stevia leaves had a lower GI than those produced with jujube fruit among the biscuits produced with stevia leaves, BOS2 had the lowest GI, then the lowest increase of postprandial blood glucose in rats, and was the most appreciated by the consumers in terms of appearance, flavour, taste and overall acceptability. Therefore, BOS2 could be recommended as snack for diabetics. Graphical Abstract
