Annotation:

The urolithiasis is one of the most motives of dogs and cats complaints attended with urinary affections. Objective of the work was to show the importance of the diet with a factor of prevention and treatment of urolithiasis in dogs and cats. The research technique used was bibliographic research. The formation of kidney crystals and stones with causes as decreased urination associated with urine supersaturation, being able to be related to dietary factors. Amoung the main existings uroliths, stand out those made of struvite and calcium oxalate. The nutrition can be related to the formation, prevention and treatment of urolithiasis, mainly in relation to the pH control and acid/basic balance present in industrialized rations. Given the above, the research presents information that shows the interference of nutrition in dogs and cats with urolithiasis. Keywords: Urolithiasis. Struvite. Calcium oxalate. Diet.

Papillomavirus oncogenesis as a benign process, clinically diagnosed as papillomatosis, is common in small domestic animals, in particular among cats and dogs, but in the nosological structure of neoplasms has a different ratio depending on the species. Recent data indicate the provocation of precancerous and neoplastic lesions in domestic species by the papillomatosis virus. Clinically, oncogenesis is associated with lesions of the skin and mucous membranes, which is determined by the tropicity of the virus, since the papillomavirus replication cycle is closely related to the differentiation of cells of the multilayer squamous epithelium, and in accordance with the morphological classification provokes the development of epithelial tumors without specific localization. The following neoplasms were identified in the structure of tumors of epithelial origin in dogs and cats: papilloma, squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma. In statistical studies during the study period, organ-specific tumors in dogs amounted to 23.85%, in cats 12.5%. The concept of infectious oncology is used, which includes and combines the basic principles of infectious and oncological processes. Bibliographic analysis revealed the associativity of papillomavirus infection with specific neoplasms, depending on the taxonomy of the virus and the type of animal.

Faced with the current pandemic of the new coronavirus (COVID-19), many doubts have arisen in society and fake news has been disseminated on social media about the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 between animals and humans, thus increasing the number of animals abandoned by tutors after the beginning of the pandemic. This review brings information from studies carried out on COVID-19 and pets. A bibliographic review of scientific publications was carried out: periodicals, magazines, books and articles on the subject. With the results, it was observed that although dogs and cats are affected by the new coronavirus, their transmission to humans has not been confirmed, however, there are suspected cases that humans can transmit the virus to animals and that probably, only the cats can transmit the virus interspecies.

It is noted that papillomavirus infection is characterized by the specificity of lesions not only within one species, many histological criteria for certain types of tumors are similar in both cats and dogs. The concept of infectious oncology is used, which includes and combines the basic principles of infectious and oncological processes. Bibliographic analysis revealed the associativity of papillomavirus infection with specific neoplasms, depending on the taxonomy of the virus and the type of animal.

The reproduction of Neotropical snakes, such as those of the genus Leptodeira, varies widely influenced by climatic factors, with species ranging from strictly seasonal to continuous reproductive patterns. Recent research reveals significant variability in reproductive cycles, determined by local environmental conditions such as temperature and precipitation. Nesting behaviors remain poorly understood, and snakes use diverse environments, from natural shelters to communal nests of other species. Within the family Dipsadidae, species such as L. maculataand L. punctatademonstrate correlations between female body size (SVL) and clutch size, reflecting adaptive strategies to maximize reproductive success in diverse ecological contexts. Field work in Panama provided new insights, documenting egg-laying and gravid individuals of species such as L. rhombiferaand L. ornata, highlighting further research to elucidate the reproductive dynamics and ecological adaptations particular to each. species. Analytical approaches including Pearson and Spearman correlationsandcluster analysis reveal distinct patterns in clutch size relative to female size, underscoring species adaptations and variability within the genus

Objectives The aim of the study was to describe the pharmacokinetics and predicted efficacy of meropenem after intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM) and subcutaneous (SC) administration to cats at a single dose of 10 mg/kg. Methods Five adult healthy cats were used. Blood samples were withdrawn at predetermined times over a 12 h period. Meropenem concentrations were determined by microbiological assay. Pharmacokinetic analyses were performed with computer software. Initial estimates were determined using the residual method and refitted by non-linear regression. The time that plasma concentrations were greater than the minimum inhibitory concentration (T >MIC) was estimated by applying bibliographic MIC values and meropenem MIC breakpoint. Results Maximum plasma concentrations of meropenem were 101.02 µg/ml (Cp(0), IV), 27.21 µg/ml (Cmax, IM) and 15.57 µg/ml (Cmax, SC). Bioavailability was 99.69% (IM) and 96.52 % (SC). Elimination half-lives for the IV, IM and SC administration were 1.35, 2.10 and 2.26 h, respectively. Conclusions and relevance Meropenem, when administered to cats at a dose of 10 mg/kg q12h,, is effective against bacteria with MIC values of 6 μg/ml, 7 μg/ml and 10 μg/ml for IV, IM and SC administration, respectively. However, clinical trials are necessary to confirm clinical efficacy of the proposed dosage regimen.

Soft tissue mobilization is frequently used in the treatment of sport and companion animals. There is, however, uncertainty regarding the efficacy and effectiveness of these methods. Therefore, the aim of this systematic literature review was to assess the evidence for clinical effects of massage and stretching in cats, dogs, and horses. A bibliographic search, restricted to studies in cats, dogs, and horses, was performed on Web of Science Core Collection, CABI, and PubMed. Relevant articles were assessed for scientific quality, and information was extracted on study characteristics, species, type of treatment, indication, and treatment effects. Of 1189 unique publications screened, 11 were eligible for inclusion. The risk of bias was assessed as high in eight of the studies and moderate in three of the studies, two of the latter indicating a decreased heart rate after massage. There was considerable heterogeneity in reported treatment effects. Therefore, the scientific evidence is not strong enough to define the clinical efficacy and effectiveness of massage and stretching in sport and companion animals.

There is an increasing interest in complementary and alternative veterinary medicine (CAVM). There is, however, an uncertainty of the efficacy of these methods. Therefore, the aim of this systematic literature review is to assess the evidence for clinical efficacy of 24 CAVM therapies used in cats, dogs, and horses. A bibliographic search, restricted to studies in cats, dogs, and horses, was performed on Web of Science Core Collection, CABI, and PubMed. Relevant articles were assessed for scientific quality, and information was extracted on study characteristics, species, type of treatment, indication, and treatment effects. Of 982 unique publications screened, 42 were eligible for inclusion, representing nine different CAVM therapies, which were aromatherapy, gold therapy, homeopathy, leeches (hirudotherapy), mesotherapy, mud, neural therapy, sound (music) therapy, and vibration therapy. For 15 predefined therapies, no study was identified. The risk of bias was assessed as high in 17 studies, moderate to high in 10, moderate in 10, low to moderate in four, and low in one study. In those studies where the risk of bias was low to moderate, there was considerable heterogeneity in reported treatment effects. Therefore, the scientific evidence is not strong enough to define the clinical efficacy of the 24 CAVM therapies.

Background: Pets, especially cats and dogs, represent a great potential for zoonotic transmission, leading to major health problems. The purpose of this systematic review was to present the latest developments concerning colistin resistance through mcr genes in pets. The current study also highlights the health risks of the transmission of colistin resistance between pets and humans. Methods: We conducted a systematic review on mcr-positive bacteria in pets and studies reporting their zoonotic transmission to humans. Bibliographic research queries were performed on the following databases: Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, Microsoft Academic, and Web of Science. Articles of interest were selected using the PRISMA guideline principles. Results: The analyzed articles from the investigated databases described the presence of mcr gene variants in pets including mcr-1, mcr-2, mcr-3, mcr-4, mcr-5, mcr-8, mcr-9, and mcr-10. Among these articles, four studies reported potential zoonotic transmission of mcr genes between pets and humans. The epidemiological analysis revealed that dogs and cats can be colonized by mcr genes that are beginning to spread in different countries worldwide. Overall, reported articles on this subject highlight the high risk of zoonotic transmission of colistin resistance genes between pets and their owners. Conclusions: This review demonstrated the spread of mcr genes in pets and their transmission to humans, indicating the need for further measures to control this significant threat to public health. Therefore, we suggest here some strategies against this threat such as avoiding zoonotic transmission.

The geographical origins of the replies brought in by the broadly cast net of this journal underscore the global concern with the phenomenon of famine and its study. The objective of my article was to stimulate discussion about risk factor analysis that takes into account both FAD and entitlement approaches to famine. The four reviews represent an extensive and helpful array of responses that suggest further refinements of research possibilities utilizing the risk factor concept. All offered abundant food for thought about how to address the riddle of what to do about famine, and in their references, the respondents have included first-rate additions to a bibliography of recent famine studies.

Dogs and cats occupy a place of honor in the family, in constant interaction and contact, and since the Coronavirus Disease - 2019 (COVID-19) is an intensely contagious respiratory disease concomitant with the circulation of fake news about the possibility of pets transmitting the disease to their tutors, generated great concern, culminating in the abandonment and even mistreatment of animals. The objectives of the study were to analyze information from scientific articles/journalistic articles on infection and transmission of coronavirus in animals and from these to humans, and from that to guide tutors on pet care in relation to COVID-19, also opposing, the fake news published. The following descriptors were used: “coronavirus animals”, “SARS-Cov-2 animals”, in English and Portuguese, published from 2020 to 2022. The search index databases were Google Scholar, Scielo, Pubmed and Scopus. The selected articles showed that the evidence is limited regarding the action of animals in the epidemiological chain of COVID-19, and there is not enough scientific evidence that they can be transmitters to people. And even though some animals have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, there are no confirmed cases of transmission between these animal species and humans. Thus, it is believed that these bibliographic findings are relevant, due to the need to increase the knowledge of tutors about COVID-19 in dogs and cats, thus avoiding the spread of false news about the epidemiological role of pets.

Macro and microporosity in castings are a problem that persists at many foundries, despite the use of advance simulation software’s. This fact indicates that other parameters rather then the casting shape/design or the “standard” metallurgical characteristics are not properly controlled, considered or modelled in the solidification simulation. In this paper we present the Phase I of a research project, which consists on a bibliographic review of the previous attempts to evaluate the relationship between solidification sequence and the measurement of expansion of molten metal during eutectic solidification and is relation to porosity and shrinkage defects.

The centuries-old near-inseparable human/automobile relationship faces a revolution thanks to artificial intelligence gradually creating new paradigms in terms of personal urban mobility. Still, would we be prepared to relinquish our vehicle control to autonomous systems? The main objective of this work is to elucidate the main elements of the complex relationship between human factors and artificial intelligence in the development and establishment of autonomous vehicles. Thus, this paper adopted a basic methodology with a qualitative approach with an exploratory objective and technical procedures, as well as technical procedures of a documentary and bibliographic nature. Notice that autonomous systems present plausible functioning in controlled environments, even so, in an environment with several variables and an almost infinite possibility of combinations, enforced the occurrence of failures and compromised the structuring of a mental model, based on human factors, applicable to artificial intelligence. That explains the little importance given to human factors in the planning of human/autonomous machine interactions.

The materials in the Retrospective National Bibliography of foreignlanguagepublications printed in Estonia before 1830 provide variousopportunities for analysing the production of local print shops.The article focuses on the illustrative elements in printed funeralsermons and works of poetry, which cast a light on the memorialand commemorative customs in the early modern period.Visual decorative elements like headpieces and vignettes had ageneral symbolic meaning and were used to illustrate funeral textsirrespective of the age, vocation or position of the deceased. Oneobjective was to remind the viewers of their own mortality. Skulls andcoffins were among the main vignette motifs used to depict Death,and less often, Death was depicted as a skeleton or the Grim Reaper.Inscriptions added to the vignettes emphasised relevant passagesfrom the Bible to strengthen one’s faith. The fact that the same orsimilar vignettes were simultaneously used in different countries isnoteworthy. The motifs for visualising Death and mourning used inthe foreign-language funeral publications in Estonia are very similarto those used in Sweden and Finland during the same period.

With osteoarthritis being the most common degenerative disease in pet animals, a very broad panel of natural health products is available on the market for its management. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis, registered on PROSPERO (CRD42021279368), was to test for the evidence of clinical analgesia efficacy of fortified foods and nutraceuticals administered in dogs and cats affected by osteoarthritis. In four electronic bibliographic databases, 1578 publications were retrieved plus 20 additional publications from internal sources. Fifty-seven articles were included, comprising 72 trials divided into nine different categories of natural health compound. The efficacy assessment, associated to the level of quality of each trial, presented an evident clinical analgesic efficacy for omega-3-enriched diets, omega-3 supplements and cannabidiol (to a lesser degree). Our analyses showed a weak efficacy of collagen and a very marked non-effect of chondroitin-glucosamine nutraceuticals, which leads us to recommend that the latter products should no longer be recommended for pain management in canine and feline osteoarthritis.

Leukemias are malignant neoplasms of hematological origin and originating from bone marrow cells. Innumerable species can be affected by this disease, which can be originated by several causes, including infection by viruses belonging to the Retroviridae family. In felines, humans and cattle, the leukemia-inducing retroviruses are Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) and Bovine Leukosis Virus (BLV), respectively. In Brazil, the number of domestic cats infected with FeLV grows progressively, when compared to the incidence of infected animals in developed countries, such as the United States. In cattle, viral leukemia or enzootic bovine leukosis (EBL), caused by BLV, although asymptomatic, leads to decreased production and economic losses. In humans, HTLV-1 was the first human retrovirus described in the 1980s. In this work, the similarities between cytomorphological changes in felines, cattle and humans affected by FeLV, BLV and HTLV-1, respectively, were analyzed. The bibliographic findings showed that the affected species addressed share the presence of atypical and/or reactive lymphocytes, smudge cells, immature cells and nuclear cell atypias in peripheral blood.

Our work proposes to resume the work Chaos e Cosmos (1976), by Suzi Sperber. Methodologically, this study was carried out through a bibliographical review of production arranged in physical and digital collections. When we outline general considerations about the text of Chaos e Cosmos, we present as primary results of the investigation, some of its strengths and conceptual contradictions. The main objective of the search is to detect, in our readings, a probable critical-literary encounter between Brazil and Portugal, and also to suggest new research horizons. Among the main bibliographic contributions of this examination, we have the texts of Bolle (2004), Meyer (2008) and Eagleton (2019), suggesting ways to recover part of a historical bias that has usually been guided by the binomial ideology of a colony versus metropolis, underlying substrate in the analysis of Guimarães Rosa's works.

AbstractOur short study tries to cast light upon a canonical Romanian poet’s paradoxical personality, a poet who, in our opinion, “suffered” by the “anxiety of influence” - a concept theorized by Harold Bloom - and, thus, endeavored in an imaginary translation of Shakespeare’s “last sonnets”. In order to reach our goal, we travelled throughout V. Voiculescu’s paratopia, using Maingueneau’s concept to understand how a believer was able to be - at the same time - poet, mystic, physician, philosopher and theologian, in the sense in which God the Word was speaking inside him, o theos logos. The multiple aspects of his personality are being revealed with the help of a various bibliography, into the light of Agapè, the divine love descending onto a poet who was being moved towards it by the all powerful Eros. The paradox is the fact that the full measure of his art was given at an old age - mid seventies -, an age when other poets are repeating themselves in a minor gamut, depleted by their intellectual force, as they are physically weakened.

In this study, the health and well-being of fish species Salminus hilarii, in a stretch of a headwater river in the Araguaia River basin - Tocantins, Goiás State, were evaluated. Where the objective was to identify and measure the hematological parameters (erythrogram, thrombogram and leukogram of the referred species). The specimens (n = 50) were captured using fishing nets and cast nets. Blood samples were collected by caudal puncture. The hematological data were obtained according to the methodology described in the classic bibliography. Based on the results of the hematological analysis, the relationship between them and their collection area was obtained, as well as the analyzes by microscopy in the search for morphological (genotoxic) alterations, in the micronuclei. Changes or variations in these parameters can be used as indicators of environmental contamination since these animals are inserted in the environment. Thus, the immune responses presented by the analyzed specimens where the difference between the results of these parameters, as well as the presence of genotoxic markers, are indicative of changes in the studied river water quality.

The pernicious impact of COVID-19 on all the aspects of travel and tourism has posed a question of tourism sustainability before policymakers and researchers. This research aims to cast light on the bibliometric construct and knowledge structure of the contemporaneous research that evolved around tourism sustainability amid COVID-19. Bibliometric methods of performance analysis and science mapping were used to analyze a total of 440 bibliographic records retrieved from the Scopus database. The major findings showed sustainability as a trending area of tourism research amid COVID-19 and revealed the concentration of research in three prime domains: Management and sustainable development of tourism, environmental health, and mobility trends in the context of COVID-19 pandemic. These areas may be perceived as the recent domains, and they are imperative for future research.

The growing demand for clean technology, especially electric cars and energy storage, has led to a significant rise in global lithium production. Brines now constitute a major portion of the world's lithium output, driving research in lithium extraction and purification methods. This study examines recent innovative research and patents, including various extraction techniques, sorbents, electrolysis-based approaches, and cost-effective methods. The study identifies gaps and limitations in existing lithium extraction technology and proposes future research areas to advance the field. The bibliographic analysis underscores the importance of further investigation to overcome current obstacles and drive progress in lithium extraction.

Regardless of the changes in the economy of the country in recent years caused by the global financial crisis, Brazil has managed to stand positively, despite the many variations in the national and international economic scenario. In the rise of the economy, the automobile sector was a prominent contributor, making it more advantageous for a consumer to purchase a new vehicle. This article aims to study the factors in the city of Cacoal that influenced a consumer’s decision to buy a new car. The methodology was descriptive research, using the deductive method, a qualitative and quantitative approach, and bibliographic research. To collect our data, we used a questionnaire containing 14 questions, some semi-open and some multiple-choice closed, sent in a link via email and Whatsapp, with the help of the Google Forms tool. In our results, it was observed that a consumer’s buying behaviour receives influences from both the external environment and the social group, both of which have a direct impact on the process of deciding to buy a new vehicle. The digital media, in the form of specialized electronic magazine websites, have become popular for consumers to consult. It was found that consumers researching in order to make a purchase decision consider the following decision factors first: quality, trust in technical assistance, confidence in the brand, safety and finally price. To a consumer looking for a new car these items are found to be the most important. The present study aims to set the parameters for future studies and to justify an interest in research.

Recently, emerging global powers have challenged the existing international order, whereas the US is on a declining trajectory. The US hegemonic obligations to use its preponderant power in global issues with the intent to cast events in its favour have brought an inevitable overstretch beyond its capacity. Furthermore. a visible shift in power centres, the backlash of political decisions, and economic recession are other factors that need to be studied. This paper, therefore, explores the highly debated and contested reasons for the US decline. While employing deductive reasoning through qualitative analysis, it evaluates the efficacy of existing international order, emerging multilateralism, and difficulties in obviating the attendant risks to US security and prosperity. Implications of a declining superpower and suggested course of action for Pakistan have also been discussed in this paper. Introduction: Immunotherapies are developed to overcome limitations of conventional cancer therapy through stimulating innate immune response against tumor antigen. Objective: Elaborate a review on CAR-T Immunotherapy (Chimeric T Cell Antigen Receptor) in cancer treatment. Methods: Bibliographic survey of systematic reviews published in PubMed in the last 5 years. Results: 21 studies were selected. Antitumor effect occurs through cell lysis, due to CAR-T lymphocytes release of cytokines. Tumor escape is related to tumor's ability to not expose its Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) and/or inability of the adaptive immune system to recognize tumor antigens. These molecular targets may be proteins, carbohydrates, or glycolipids, with CD19 standing out as target of this therapy and in neoplasms as leukemia and lymphoma. Four generations of CARs have been described, which differ in terms of co-stimulatory domains and consequent functional efficiency. The therapy is indicated for cases of recurrence/refractoriness of hematological neoplasms, however applicability in solid tumors has been studied. Adverse events of CAR-T immunotherapy described were: cytokine release syndrome, neurotoxicity, anaphylactic shock, autoimmune reactions, B cell aplasia, tumor lysis syndrome and graft-versus-host disease. Conclusions: CAR-T immunotherapy is a promising therapy against relapsed/refractory cancer. It’s mainly used in leukemias and lymphomas. Choice of dose and generation of CARs should be cautious, considering specific molecular targets of each neoplasm and its presence in healthy tissues, avoiding adverse events.

Mobilization and manipulation techniques are often used in small animal and equine practice; however, questions remain concerning indications, dosing and efficacy. A bibliographic search was performed to identify peer-reviewed publications from 1980 to 2020 that evaluated the clinical effects of musculoskeletal mobilization and manipulation techniques in dogs, cats and horses. The search strategy identified 883 papers for review. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied. The clinical indications, dosages, outcome parameters, and reported efficacy within each publication were recorded and categorized for comparison with scientific quality assessed according to a standardized grading system. Fourteen articles were included in this systematic review of which 13 were equine and one was a canine study. Seven of these were cohort studies and seven were randomized controlled clinical trials. The canine study involved carpal immobilization-remobilization and all equine studies focused on the effects of passive mobilization (n = 5) or manipulation (n = 8) of the axial skeleton. Study quality was low (n = 4), moderate (n = 7), and high (n = 3) and included a wide array of outcome parameters with varying levels of efficacy and duration of therapeutic effects, which prevented further meta-analysis. Therefore, it was difficult to draw firm conclusions despite all studies reporting positive effects. Optimal technique indications and dosages need to be determined to improve the standardization of these treatment options.

The present work seeks to cast a critical eye on the nature of the right to property from its threshold, demonstrating how violent nature is intrinsic to the alienation of the public good by an individual. By means of dialectical methodology and bibliographic research, we seek to outline contradictory views on property, revealing – by means of a summary of the thoughts of Locke and Rousseau – the inexistence of this right in a state of nature, with it instead derived from civil society. The research then moves on to consider the way in which Hegel’s dialectic of the master and the slave is carried out, tracing the sequence of movements by which a conscience can arrive at its own recognition through the symbolic death of the other. Finally, we show how private property presents itself in relationships of domination and in the creation of a system of norms that legitimize violence, also offering a criticism of the way in which Hegel proposes the reflexive liberation of the slave.

Over the years, an increase in the traffic of electric and hybrid electric vehicles and vehicles with hydrogen cells is being observed, while at the same time, self-driving cars are appearing as a modern trend in transportation. As the years pass, their equipment will evolve. So, considering the progress in vehicle equipment over the years, additional technological innovations and applications should be proposed in the near future. Having that in mind, an analytical review of the progress of equipment in electromobility and autonomous driving is performed in this paper. The outcomes of this review comprise hints for additional complementary technological innovations, applications, and operating constraints along with proposals for materials, suggestions and tips for the future. The aforementioned hints and tips aim to help in securing proper operation of each vehicle part and charging equipment in the future, and make driving safer in the future. Finally, this review paper concludes with a discussion and bibliographic references.

Sporotrichosis is an infectious and chronic fungal disease caused by fungi belonging to the Sporothrix schenckii complex that affects humans and animals through traumatic implantation of the fungus in the skin. They are dimorphic, saprophytic and geophilic fungi that are widely distributed in nature, especially in soils rich in organic matter. The aim of this study was to understand the clinical, mycological, environmental and epidemiological aspects of the Sporothrix schenckii complex in felines. In order to meet the objectives of this research, a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory data survey was carried out through a bibliographic review based on works published in the last 23 years. Sporothrix spp. is considered to be a complex of at least six cryptic species, in other words, they have similar morphological characteristics but different genotypes. In cats, the incubation period is variable; it usually lasts 14 days. On penetrating the tissue, the micellar form transforms into yeast, which generates an inflammatory response and proliferation of the microorganism at the site, causing papular and nodular lesions which, in some cases, heal spontaneously. Therefore, it is clear that sporotrichosis is caused by dimorphic fungi of the Sporothrix schenkii complex. It is a zoonotic disease of great importance in the context of public health, since it is still a neglected disease and requires robust measures to control. As well as being the most seriously affected, felines are the main transmitters to humans and animals, making them a key point in controlling outbreaks of the disease.
