Based on observations on the theological issues that occur at then current writer mendiskripsi is it some thing as background writing this work, including the following: first, the interpretation of the difference resulting from the use of the original language of the Bible is well seen from outside parties i.e. the view of the Islamic religion and views the Jewish religion, as well as from Parties within the IE view of Christianity itself, Second, more specifically the views of Islamic religious figures who say that the Bible is corrupted. K etiga, from among the Christian religion itself there is the memasalahkan process of translation and the translation of results from the original language texts are taken from the existing texts, translations and consider which one is superior (the original script approach) than others. For example there is one book called "The KJV (King James Version)-NIV (New International Version) the Debate" by Jeffrey Khoo of Far Eastern Bible College, Singapore. In addition, the Jehovah's witnesses also issued a statement that there is ' 50,000 errors in the Gospel ' from the magazine Awake (Awake) volume 38 No. 17 September 8, 1957, and much material delivered through another edition. And the program used by the Islamic religious figures, one of them Late. Ahmed Deedat in his book 'Is the Bible God's Word?' who use the resources of the Jehovah's witnesses in his book, even in other books as well. The writing of history sources: written sources. Written materials are usually the most important source for historians to reconstruct history. This resource is divided into two categories: (1) history written in passing or official, and (2) the history of written carefully according to the rules of writing of history (based on the library). History written in passing include the ' raw data ' of history, from the records produced by all levels of society, starting with an individual level to the international level. In doing research there are some which are used to examine cases that are in the books that will be examined. Because covered are comparing the two texts are actually related, so the methods that used a combination of several methods. Moreover, comparing the texts of Scripture, so keep in mind the previous method used, i.e. as follows: form criticism, Literary Criticism and critique texts. Criticism of the Bible can be divided into two parts; i.e. High Criticism and critique. This type of study could be applied to the Bible, because it is named after the biblical research. Christian Encyclopedia defines: "science to achieve a satisfactory knowledge of the origin, history, and circumstances of the original text of the Bible." I need to know the history of high criticism and criticism of low as well as its development, namely as follows: the term "criticism" always refers to a negative connotation. Though not always have to be so. The sense of the term principal criticism was the examination or testing of an issue, or a problem with the intention of determining the keotentikannya, the keterandalannya, or its significance. " Criticism of the term basically means an opinion, or an act of judgment; derived from the verb in the language of Greece (... [crino]) means of judging, or testing, or forward tudingan or charges against, or sets, a row of the meaning of the above meaning. If used in the fields of literature, he suggests thinking – not an attempt at finding errors – but with a fair and properly assess the goodness and evil things openly and objectively. In other words, is an impartial appraisal, or anything similar to that for example it anything that could be considered by certain critics. " Both methods above criticism in a high Criticism that is form criticism and criticism of literature. While the Text Criticism is Criticism.

Annotation:
AbstractThis paper investigates the belated formation of the China Bible House, the first national Bible society in China, as a result of the interplay between the politics of foreign Bible societies and the indigenizing Chinese church in relation to rising nationalism during the Republican era. The challenge of Chinese nationalism to Christianity drove foreign Bible societies and Chinese Protestants to work towards the indigenization of Bible work. However, distrust and conflicts hindered foreign Bible societies' co-operation among themselves and also with Chinese Protestants. While Chinese church leaders saw the founding of a Chinese Bible society as a manifestation of the Chineseness of the Protestant church in China, they agreed with foreign Bible societies on the global identity of Bible work, which justified the latter's continuing presence in China. This understanding, together with the need for foreign financial support and expertise, explains why Sino-foreign co-operation existed in Bible work in China.

AbstractWhat has been called secular criticism among some scholars in the Society of Biblical Literature has been pursued as a critique and alternative to traditional theological studies. The question is whether the term secular is being used to describe a method, characterize the biblical literature, or propose a postmodern hermeneutic for a secular age. The article explores these issues to find that secular criticism has not been able to escape the assumption of biblical authority by criticizing theological interpretations. The alternative would be to study the Christian myth embedded in the Bible and render a cultural critique.

Biblical texts hold social power, acting in and through the religious traditions that hold the Bible authoritative, with far-reaching impact on culture and politics. Work by Bruno Latour and others on the agency and action of artefacts provides a set of concepts that make possible analysis of how social power is delegated to the Bible and how the Bible in turn holds power over its readers and broader society. Tracing the action of the Bible in this way enables reflection on the performative impact of how the Bible is read and interpreted.

Abstract The paper examines the very beginnings of Bible Mission in Hungary within the Habsburg Empire in the first part of the nineteenth century. It divides the first thirty years into two major epochs: the one before Gottlieb August Wimmer, Lutheran pastor of Felsőlövő (Oberschützen) and agent of the British and Foreign Bible Society (BFBS) and the one characterized by his work until the revolution of 1848. In the paper, I summarize the main obstacles of Bible Mission both political and religious as well as the main achievements and formations of policies and practices that still define Bible Mission of the Bible Societies in all around the world. The work of BFBS in Hungary in this period was also intertwined with the formative period of the Budapest Scottish Mission, a topic that I also touch in the paper.

In the past few years, a number of civil society coalitions have emerged in the illiberal city-state of Singapore. They are the unintended result of a controlled process of liberalization which was initiated by the government in the 1990s in response to growing demands for participation. In particular, the internet has contributed to a more assertive, independent and better organized civil society, which can be seen as a significant step in the process of political change in the city-state.

The article is devoted to the study of the lexical aspects of Russian Bible translations of the 19th—21st centuries in comparative coverage and is a continuation of a study pre-viously conducted by reference to English Bibles. A historical overview of the existing Russian translations is given (the Synodal translation and the texts preceding it, the New Testament of Bishop Cassian, the Bible of the World Bible Translation Center, the “Central Asian translation”, the translation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Bible of the Inter-national Bible Society, the modern translation of the Russian Bible Society, the “Zaoksky Bible”). Special attention is paid to modern editions. Samples of texts are compared according to the lexical parameters of adaptiveness, terminologicalness, style and literalness. On the basis of this comparison, a classification of the considered translations is proposed, and their typological features and interconnections are established. The lexical nature of translations is interpreted in terms of their sociolinguistic effect (public perception). The data obtained confirms the pattern previously found in the English-language Bibles — the inverse relationship between adaptiveness on the one hand and terminologicalness, high style and literalness of the translation on the other. In terms of lexical characteristics, the Synodal and the “Central Asian” translations differ most from each other, which is probably due to their focus on church tradition and missionary goals, respectively.

Abstract Official narratives in Singapore have included the crackdown by the ruling People’s Action Party (pap) government under Lee Kuan Yew against the Chinese chauvinists on the city-state’s road to nationhood. From 1959 to 1976, the Lee government believed that Chinese chauvinism came from three sources: a population that was majority ethnic Chinese in Singapore, pro-communist organizations that exploited Chinese chauvinism for their own ends, and individuals or organizations that praised the People’s Republic of China at the expense of Singapore. Using newspaper articles, speeches by government ministers, oral history interviews, and declassified government records held in Singapore and overseas, this article assesses the threat of Chinese chauvinism in Singapore between the years 1959 and 1976. It argues that the Lee government made statements about Chinese chauvinists that were grounded either on truism, or on excoriating individuals, for its own political gain.

Bilingual policy in Singapore has been characterized by dynamic government interventions since the nation’s independence in 1965. The elevation of English to the medium of instruction in education has inevitably come into conflict with Chinese, the lingua franca of Singapore’s dominant ethnic group. Drawing upon a theoretical perspective of prestige language planning, we show that the Chinese language has gradually lost prestige in Singaporean society in general, and in particular it has lost ground to English in terms of linguistic capital. A succinct re-examination of Singapore’s language-in-education planning shows that education alone cannot arrest the declining status of the Chinese language, neither does any image-fostering. The study highlights the importance of prestige promotion for the future success of Chinese language maintenance. The rapid rise of China provides an enabling environment for prestige manipulation. However, the socio-political goals of the Singaporean bilingual policy restrain the government’s willingness to support the unrestricted growth of Mandarin in the official discourse. While it is not possible in this paper to provide solutions or to suggest specific directions for solving this problem, it is our hope that the analysis of the complex interplay of the official discourse on language issues and the surrounding socio-political variables can shed some fresh light on understanding the intricacies and difficulties of a bilingual policy in a multicultural society.

Abstract Although the Netherlands has become one of the most secular countries in the world, the Bible still plays an important role for many people as a source of cultural and spiritual inspiration. Despite extant empirical research, there remains a pressing gap of knowledge concerning the actual use of the Bible by “ordinary readers.” This makes it more difficult for organizations such as the Dutch Bible Society to engage the public with the distribution of Bible translations and inspirational products. This large-scale mixed-method (qualitative and quantitative) research project aims to provide both practical (or commercial) and academic insights on Bible reading practices and views on the Bible among Dutch “readers” in various ‘ideological’ contexts. One of the most significant results is that biographical factors appear more indicative for how the Bible is approached than more ‘conventional’ denominational factors such as church affiliation.
