Der volle Inhalt der QuelleA number of biblical scholars have observed that the Bible has been used by dominant groups in certain societies to justify and condone discrimination and oppression. Slavery, colonialism and apartheid are often cited as examples of racial oppression based on particular understandings of the Bible. Some biblical scholars have pointed to the fact that theologians who work in contexts of racially liberated societies, such as South Africa, are slow in recognizing the injustices caused by gender discrimination. Instead, male privilege continues to be upheld particularly through the Biblical justification of male headship. The popularity of the 'Mighty Men' Conference is a case in point as it encourages men to take their supposedly rightful, "God-given" place as prophet, priest and king in marriage and family relationships. The emerging popularity of male-headship theology thwarts whatever gains have been made in the areas of gender justice and equality in various spheres of society, including the church. Headship theology often goes unquestioned because it is supported by particular interpretation/understanding of biblical texts which are quoted out of context to support and justify male dominance. For example, Luke 7: 36-50 is often interpreted in showing the "sinful" woman as one who needs forgiveness.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleSince 2002, “degrowth” has made its way into the debate on ecology, economics, and our future. The present work questions Protestant theology through one of the main writers of this heterodox thinking: Serge Latouche. This French atheist economist makes a culturalist critique of the society of growth. He puts it on a threefold trial and calls for the creative decolonization of our shared imaginary, so as to move towards autonomous, convivial, and happy societies of frugal abundance. This position first of all leads theology to question growth. Based on biblical data, it is noticed that the Christian imaginary of growth enriches and contradicts the dominant growthist imaginary. Hence, two contributions to a theology of growth are provided: one about the command to get rich addressed to the disciple and to the church, where this kind of growth is subverted, another about plant growth and animal proliferation, where these kinds of growth are restored to favor

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleAlbert Cohen’s oeuvre revolves around the staging of Jewish identity. Though the novels only were meant as illustrations of Cohen’s desire to write a vast “epic of the Jews” through Solal’s adventures, it would seem that all his works, be they autobiographical, poetic or dramatic, are in actual fact informed by this desire. So central is Jewish identity, experienced both individually and collectively, to Cohen’s thought and creative process that it appears to be the core of his idiosyncratic aesthetics, and that his writing is based on the myths it creates. However indebted they might be to Homer’s works, the novels are nevertheless less a proper epic than the story of Jewish life in the Western world and offer a complex image of Jewish identity. The latter is constantly both denied and reaffirmed and its origins are forever presented as uncertain. This complexity and uncertainty permeates not only Cohen’s writing, but his ethical and existential thought. What is expressed is the desire for the advent of humanity through the Jewish Law, which will change the world. The fascinating, all pervasive figure of the Messiah is thus obsessively present in Cohen’s creative imagination and defines Solal as well as all the Jewish characters in the novels. Cohen’s complex and protean Messianism informs the staging of Jewish identity that will then take various literary forms

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis work provides a solid theoretical base on philanthropy, religious giving (Islamic zakat, ‘ushour, Waqf -plural: awqaf-, Sadaqa and Christian tithes or ‘ushour), and their implications on giving trends, development work, social justice philanthropy. The field study (quantitative and qualitative) that supports the theoretical framework reflects at a national level the Egyptian public’s perceptions on philanthropy, social justice, human rights, giving and volunteering and other concepts that determine the peoples’ civic engagement. The statistics cover 2000 households, 200 Civil Society Organizations distributed all over Egypt and interviews donors, recipients, religious people and other stakeholders. The numbers reflect philanthropic trends and for the first time provide a monetary estimate of local philanthropy of over USD 1 Billion annually. The survey proves that the per capita share of philanthropy outweighs the per capita share of foreign economic assistance to Egypt, which implies the significance of local giving if properly channeled, and not as it is actually consumed in the vicious circle of ad-hoc, person to person charity. In addition, the study relates local giving mechanisms derived from religion and culture to modern actual structures, like community foundations or community waqf that could bring about sustainable change in the communities. In sum, the work provides a comprehensive scientific base to help understand- and build on local philanthropy in Egypt. It explores the role that local individual giving could play in achieving sustainable development and building a new wave of community foundations not only in Egypt but in the Arab region at large. As a tangible result of this thesis, an innovative model that revives the concept of waqf and builds on the study’s results was created by the researcher and a dedicated board of trustees who succeeded in establishing Waqfeyat al Maadi Community Foundation (WMCF) that not only introduces the community foundation model to Egypt, but revives and modernizes the waqf as a practical authentic philanthropic structure.

This thesis deals with the issue of globalization in Singapore with the historical-structural approach. Globalization is treated on the independent variable, which is used to examine the dependent at the triangular relationship among state、market and civil society in Singapore. Meanwhile, it is necessary to study and compare how globalization affects triangular relationship of three actors before and after Asian Financial Crisis. In the interaction view of State and market, it is suitable to the transformationalist thesis of globalization in Singapore, rather than to use the hyperglobalist thesis. Up to now, its situation is more likely what the transformationalist thesis predicts, namely globalization is producing a transformation strength in Singapore, and state instructs the path of economic development continually, further it also consolidates the legitimacy of Singaporean state by increasing economic stability. In the interaction view of market and civil society, the market plays the part of information supply role for civil society, at the same time, civil society had encountered the so-called "Asian Value" effect to prosper economy, People''s Action Party has conducted rebellious force from economics to politics, and it also let Singapore become the lightest Financial-Crisis country. But it is not a widespread acceptance value, it is only a special example. In the interaction view of state and civil society, state plays a role of surveillant toward civil society. In addition, civil society become more powerful against the state action by the diversification of social structure; simultaneously, it also consolidates the autonomy and capacity of Singaporean state.

ABSTRACT This study examines the adjustment of Chinese students in their assimilation into the Singapore society. It attempts to understand their state of societal assimilation, the challenges faced, and ways of coping and adjustment. This study adopts a qualitative analysis as its method. Five overseas students who had been in Singapore six months to four years were interviewed. The main findings are as follows. Firstly, the assimilation of overseas students into Singapore society varies from person to person, and also depends on personal choices and behavior. Four dimensions are involved: economic integration, behavioral adaptation, cultural acceptance and identity assimilation. The four dimensions can be summed up in the following factors: (1) economic integration in terms of moonlighting and starting business with friends; (2) behavioral adaptation in terms of forming deep relationships with locals, and selectively pursuing activities of interest despite the stress of studies and daily living; (3) cultural acceptance in terms of language, diet and environment; (4) identity assimilation in the sense of diminishing psychological distance over time –the majority of the overseas students intend to become Singapore permanent residents, but hesitate about citizenship. Secondly, in the process of assimilation, overseas Chinese students face five areas of challenges: cultural challenge, changes in the external environment, interpersonal conflict, psychological impact and economic pressure. Thirdly, Chinese students basically adopt either one of the two responses in face of challenges: active adaptation or passive coping. Active adaptation mainly involves personal factors, such as psychological adjustment, active exploration of the environment, braving and accepting reality, empowerment through religious beliefs and self-development, as well as seeking help from external resources (such as from friends, classmates, lecturers, church, pastors and family members). The passive coping response mainly involves a relatively pessimistic attitude in face of challenges. One is ‘forced’ by the greater environment to learn to get along, to make decisions independently, and to change one’s way of doing things and interacting with people. The researcher elaborates on the above research findings, and renders suggestions for overseas Chinese students in Singapore, related organizations, such as the government, religious groups and assistance bodies, and future research. Keywords: overseas Chinese student, societal assimilation, adjustment

Der volle Inhalt der Quelle- Practical theology is concerned with establishing and cultivating the rhythm of action and reflection within the experience of the Christian community of faith. This is a process of listening to the Word of God and discerning to address the community of faith through proposing change, with all these tasks operating within a current context of the Christian faith and for the purpose of maintaining and perfecting the Christian community.
- The Church has a responsibility to train and equip believers within the context of the relational community interacting with the Word of God so the community may grow in discernment and maturity. The Church has, and continues, to utilise different media to provide teaching and training on a mass scale. The current products being developed as Bible study materials (especially those incorporating the video medium) are failing to meet this responsibility.
