Surface Air Temperature (SAT) is an important weather element affecting the climate and its nature, as it greatly affects the nature of the atmosphere prevailing in the city of Baghdad, as well as the main influence on the pressure systems affecting Iraq and thus the city of Baghdad. In this study, the annual SAT for three aspects of temperatures (mean, maximum, and minimum) for Baghdad city of approved 11 years had studied, analyzed and discussed. The sources of data came from two sources. First, Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology (IMOS), which represented the arithmetic average annually of the SAT, maximum and minimum temperature for the period (2009 – 2019). Second source of data was from Mustansiriyah University, atmospheric sciences department of Atmospheric Sciences - college of Science, the data are supported as monthly average for SAT for Baghdad. Results shown Basrah was high annual of SAT than four selective cities in Iraq. The variation of annual SAT was in the end study period where reach to 7 oC in mean of SAT for Basrah city. The trend of SAT for Baghdad city was positive for Mean and maximum, while negative for minimum case. Mustansiriyah station was high than IMOS station by 2 oC for mean of SAT, and 5 oC for maximum SAT.

AbstractShortly after the 2003 American invasion of Iraq, Kanan Makiya, a long time Iraqi dissident and professor of Middle East studies at Brandeis University, uncovered a major trove of documents belonging to Saddam Hussein's Baath Party and his security forces. The documents proved highly important in reflecting the inner workings of the Baath Party system in his final years in power. Soon after the discovery of the documents, the Iraq Memory Foundation (IMF), a private Washington, D.C.–based group founded by Makiya, took custody of the records, later depositing them with the Hoover Institution at Stanford University to provide a safe haven for them. The deal ignited immediate international controversy and charges of pillage from some Iraqi officials, archival organizations, scholars, and others who also demanded their immediate return to the Iraq National Library and Archive in Baghdad. On the surface, these charges of theft and plunder appear plausible enough, but on examination, a different and complicated narrative emerges in light of the conventions of war, U.S. law, and the Iraqi penal code, as well as the chain of events surrounding their taking and removal by nonstate actors in the Iraqi theatre of war and occupation.

This paper studies the problem of noise pollution on the roads of the campus of University of Baghdad in Baghdad, Iraq. Due to the continuous redevelopment process conducted on the masterplan of the university, the noise levels have significantly impacted the education environment. The purpose of this paper was thus to study the sources caused and maximized the noise levels at the campus and also formulate a prediction model, identified the guidelines used for designing or developing future campus masterplans. Then, the noise levels were measured based on three variables: skid number, vehicle speed, and distance from the classrooms at seven selected points of the main ring road surrounding the university campus. Finally, the finding has shown that the classrooms' locations of the new urban additions, built in the last two decades, were laid out in the prohibited distance of road-traffic noise. In addition to that, it has confirmed that students studying in these classrooms are exposed to noise levels beyond the legislative norms and codes. Further, studying the alternatives used to improve the performance of the education environment in the existing campus of University of Baghdad can be considered in the future research directions.

To maintain understanding, usage, and interrelations of English vocabularies by Iraqi second language learners (L2) is a challenging mission. In the current study, the cognitive linguistic theory of domains by Langacker (1987) is adopted to provide new horizons in learning vocabulary and qualify Iraqi students with a deep knowledge analysis of the meanings of lexical concepts. This paper aims to test the validity of expanding the English language vocabulary for second language learners from Iraq through domains theory. It also attempts to find how the domains theory supports L2 learners in identifying meanings related to lexical concepts. Accordingly, an experimental study is conducted on fifty-eight university students of the second year level from the University of Baghdad, Iraq. The pre and post-tests are analyzed by using the Editor for the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The results show the following: First, a progression of more than (0.05≤) is discovered in terms of students' understanding of the interrelationships between lexical concepts. Second, a new vision is dealt with to connect lexical concepts with their meanings according to the focus of the speakers using Langacker's theory. Third, domains theory (profile/ base organization, active zone, and the perceptual basis for knowledge representation) has proven effective in expanding Iraqi students' treatment and perception of semantic domains of English lexical concepts precisely.

Aims: To investigate why people choose to study medicine in Iraq. Subjects and methods: The first-year students admitted on the academic year 2015-2016 to Baghdad College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, were invited to complete a structured questionnaire, which was administered through the college electronic education portal. The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 21 software. Results: A total of 152 (50% response rate) students responded. Women constituted 69.1% of respondents. Most students (61.8%) had made their choice by themselves without family pressure. The most frequent reasons that affected this choice were “humanitarian reasons and a wish to provide help to others” as well as “childhood dream,” “positive community appraisal of doctors,” and “ready availability of work for physicians.” About three-quarters (73.6%) of the students made some inquiry about medical school before making their choice, and the people asked were most frequently a medical student or a doctor. Information provided by the consulted parties was regarded as satisfactory by 64.2% of the surveyed students, had a positive value in 47.2%, and affected their decision in 34.9%. The highest proportion (42.2%) of the study sample was thinking about studying medicine since primary school. In addition, students with personal preference made their choice at a significantly younger age. Conclusions: Reasons to apply for medical schools in Iraq are similar to those in many countries. Most of the students who inquired about studying medicine had not contacted the medical school itself.

A heuristic evaluation ‎ model is proposed for assessing the usability of the Top 10 Iraq university websites. ‎This model is based on 3 hierarchies of website usability criteria levels. The top hierarchy level consists of five website categories: design and layout, learnability, content, performance, and errors. In the middle hierarchy level 18 subcategories, and in the bottom hierarchy level 44 elements were described. The evaluation model utilized both automated tools and observation methods. To validate the results obtained by the proposed model, the selected universities were evaluated and scored according to the usability criteria of their websites. Besides the observation elements, the four automated tools (thinkwithgoogle, gtmetrix, tools. Pingdom, and webpagetest) were also used to assess the error and performance of the websites. The study showed that except for the University of Kufa and Baghdad University websites, the rest of the university websites failed to meet the applied website usability criteria levels of the proposed evaluation model.

Background and objective: The most supported theory for Nephrotic Syndrome (NS) etiology is that it is immune-mediated. This study aims to assess the level of serum IgE in children with Steroid Sensitive NS (SSNS) at relapse and remission, and its correlation with the presence of atopy. Methods: This cross-sectional study was approved by the Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine, Al-Nahrain University (Baghdad, Iraq) and conducted at Al-Imamain Al-Kadhimain Medical City (Baghdad, Iraq), and Child Central Teaching Hospital (Baghdad, Iraq), and included 31 children SSNS. The data collected was: age, sex, residency, onset of NS, response to steroid, frequency of relapses, and the history of atopy of the patient and his relatives. Serum IgE level was measured during relapse for all patients and for 9 patients while in remission. Results: Atopy was present in 18 (58.06%) of patients. The median serum IgE level was 295.5 IU/mL (range 54-2864 IU/mL) in relapse, which is significantly higher (P-value =0.006) than in remission 228.5 IU/mL (range 62-2069 IU/mL). Median serum level of IgE in patients with atopy was 290.5 IU/mL (range 24-2864 IU/mL) which was higher than that of patients without atopy (median 231 IU/mL, range 23-1314 IU/m) (P-value = 0.029). Patients required longer period to respond to steroid therapy (>10 days) had a significantly higher median of IgE (341 IU/mL) than those who required <10 days to respond (161 IU/mL) (P-value =0.045). Conclusions: Increased IgE level is documented during relapse and in atopic children with SSNS. Longer duration to respond to steroid therapy is associated significantly with higher serum IgE during relapse.

A positive correlation between periodontal health and the level of education have been documented, however, the relationship between education level and periodontal health awareness and related health behavior have not been thoroughly considered.Aim of the study: aim of the present study is to estimate the periodontal health awareness and behavior among Iraqi university lecturers in non medical colleges. and to correlate the findings in the light of their level of education. Materials and methods: a population Sample of 352 university lecturers (176 females & 176 males) from different non medical colleges in Baghdad city has been randomly selected for this research. They were asked to complete a self assessment questionnaire designed for the estimation of periodontal health awareness and behavior . this questionnaire has three domains with 19 questions. Results: one of the most important finding of this study is the low percentage (27%) of the sample whom attribute periodontal diseases to bacteria , the results also showed that (47.4%) of them consider the bleeding on brushing as an indication of presence of periodontal disease, (47.7%) of the participants brush their teeth twice a day, (24.2%) of them have use the Floss & picks as an additional daily measures, only (26.1%) of them regularly visit their dentists, about half of the participants (52.8%) were satisfied by the dental health services provided by public and private clinics in Iraq and (82.4%) of them think that the cost of dental treatment in Iraq is too high. Conclusions: Results of this research revealed that acceptable percentages of the sample for both genders have the basic knowledge required for maintaining proper periodontal health, but these percentages are still far from that expected for this high social class. On the other hand, most of the participants seem to be satisfied with the dental health services that was provided by public and private sectors in Iraq . However, the majority of them think that the cost of dental treatment in Iraq is too high.

This study was conducted to detect CPMV in infecting cowpea plantes at Plant Protection Department/College of Agriculture, University of Baghdad. Symptomatic cowpea plants collected from fields in Baghdad and Diyala Provinces were tested by Emzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), reverse transcription- polymerase chain reaction RT-PCR and Immuno-capture reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (IC-RT-PCR) using commercial kits. ELISA approach could detect Cowpea mosaic virus CpMV in tested samples but with virus concentration lower than the positive control supplied with the kit, indicating a unique virus strain. RNA from samples showed the highest CpMV concentration were extracted by direct release and used in ICPT-PCR using como2 a comovirus specific primer set. cDNA was synthetized using como2 revers primer. RT-PCR confirmed the detection of comoviruses when amplified 200 bp DNA fragments from CpMV infected samples. Sequence analysis confirmed CpMV detection when compared with equivalent GenBank sequences. The sequence obtained shared 94.1% maximum nucleotide identity with RNA dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) gene of CpMV from Egypt (Acc. No. KT438619 and X00206). Both sequence analysis and IC-RTPCR indicated that virus isolate detected could be an Iraq divergent strain of CpMV.
