Annotation:

A combined effect of mercerized and dyed yarns on physical properties of plain single jersey knitted fabrics has been studied. Plied cotton yarn was produced and mercerized at different NaOH concentrations and temperatures. Then, this yarn was bleached and dyed with two types of dyes, vat dyeing and reactive dyeing. Each of mechanical and color properties were measured to these treated yarns. Plain single jersey knitted fabrics were produced from these treated yarns. The total evaluation of the properties for plain single jersey fabrics was measured by using radar chart method. It was found that the highest area of radar chart, which represents the total physical properties, is achieved at 32°Be′, in case of vat dyeing. Besides, analysis of variance (AVOVA) and MANOVA were applied to illustrate which of the properties would be affected by NaOH con. and types of dyeing for yarns and fabrics.

Annotation:

The present paper studied the experimental investigation on electrical discharge coating of ZE41A magnesium alloy (EDC) with tungsten carbide-copper (WC/Cu) powder metallurgy (PM) electrode. In order to attain the surface characteristics, three parameters were selected such as compaction load, current and pulse on time. Response characteristics such as material transfer rate (MTR) and surface roughness (Ra) were considered in this study. Central composite design in response surface methodology was applied to conduct experiments. Empirical models were developed for MTR and SR. AVOVA test was conducted to identify the most influence parameters. Additionally, optimized parameters were identified by response surface optimizer. It is observed that the current play a vital role in increasing the MTR and minimize the SR of the coated surface followed by compaction load and pulse on time. Various studies such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were carried out on the coated surface. Bulk mass deposition and bigger craters were observed in the surface coated with 150 MPa and 3A respectively.

The effect of roll drawing process parameters on geometrical characteristics of flat roll draw wires is analyzed. Low carbon steel wires AISI 1010 are used in the experimental tests to assess the final geometry, mainly characterized by the width of flat wires, varying among several experimental levels the main process parameters i.e., initial wire dimensions, height reduction and lubrication conditions. Design of experiment technique was used to define the experimental plan and statistical techniques, such as analysis of mean (ANOM) and variance (AVOVA), were used to evaluate the effective influence of previous cited process parameters on final geometry of wire. A finite element model is developed to investigate a further process parameter i.e. the working rolls dimensions. In order to validate the finite element model, a campaign of experimental tests was conducted and the geometrical predictions of FE model were compared with experimental mea-surements with particular attention to final wire width, width of contact area and wire elongation. A linear regression analysis was performed and an empirical formulation to forecast the lateral spread of wire according to the main process parameters was developed.

BackgroundThis research aimed to identify the effects of depressive mood of female high school students on dysmenorrhea and sleep quality.MethodsThis research was conducted for 2 months from September 2015 to October 2015. A total of 3 types of self-reported questionnaire were adopted for the research. Control group was separated by Zung Self-rating Depression Scale (ZSDS). Each group adopted a self-made questionnaire for research on menstruation and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) for research on sleep. Chi2 test and AVOVA analysis through SPSS-21 were used as statistics methods.ResultsAnalysis was made on 72 female students who submitted clear answers to the questionnaire. There were 34 students from normal mood group and 38 from depressive mood group. Depressive group presented meaningful results on regularity, pain severity, and drug treatment history of menstruation. Particularly, depressive group had 51.4% among subjects having severe menstrual pain of grade 3 by VMS (verbal multidimensional scoring system), way higher than 27.6% among subjects in the normal group. PSQI for sleep showed a meaningful result that 20.8% of those in the normal group were diagnosed with sleep disorder compared to 86.8% for the depressive group. A meaningful difference was seen in sleep latency, sleep duration, sleep disturbance, use of sleep medication, daytime functional disturbance among 7 items of PSQI.ConclusionThis research showed that female high school students with depressive mood had high frequency and severity in dysmenorrhea and sleep quality disturbance.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

AbstractObjectiveThe present study was conducted to determine the impact of a community-based intervention on the nutritional behaviour of a representative sample of Iranian adults.DesignThe Isfahan Healthy Heart Programme (IHHP), a six-year, action-oriented, integrated community-based study aimed at health promotion through the reduction of CVD risk factors, targeted the whole population living in two intervention cities, and compared outcomes with the population of a non-intervention city considered as reference. Dietary interventions were performed as educational, environmental and/or legislative strategies. A global dietary index (GDI) was calculated representing the general dietary behaviour. In addition, two consumption indices were calculated for specific food groups, i.e. meat products and major sources of fat. Univariate AVOVA was conducted to evaluate the impact of the intervention on dietary behaviours.SettingIsfahan and Najaf-Abad (intervention cities) and Arak (reference city), central Iran.SubjectsThe baseline survey was conducted among 12514 randomly selected adults aged ≥19 years in both intervention and reference areas. The survey was repeated annually among about 5000 persons (2002–2005) in the intervention and reference communities.ResultsAccording to significant year × group interactions in mean fat consumption index (FCI) and meat consumption index (MCI) in the total population, a significant improvement in FCI and MCI was found in the intervention areasv. the reference area (P< 0·001). In addition, the GDI improved significantly in the intervention areasv. the reference area (P< 0·001).ConclusionsThe IHHP interventions were effective in improving dietary behaviours at the population level. The highest effectiveness was documented in the change in the type of fat consumed. Such simple and integrated interventions can be adopted in other developing countries with limited financial resources.

Background:Prior to reperfusion, a variable period of ischaemia occurs in transplanted donor organs There is growing evidence that apoptosis contributes to the ischaemia-reperfusion injury conundrum that follows, but its extent has not been precisely quantified. Understanding its extent and effects can help find ways to mitigate or counteract such an injury in the liver. We therefore evaluated the extent of apoptosis semi-quantitatively from the expression of Caspase-3 and M30 in a porcine ex-vivo hepatic ischaemia-reperfusion injury model and correlated the timing of expression of M30 antibody with that of Caspase-3.Method:Livers were harvested from three healthy white Landrace Cross pigs and perfused for six hours using oxygenated extracorporeal circuits with heparinized autologous blood at 380C as described in our previous work [1]. A 2-hour delay prior to perfusion represented the period of ischaemia. All the livers were uniformly perfused. Three biopsies were taken for each of 7 time points (total 21); before dissection of the liver (BD) of the livers, after dissection (AD), after connection (AC) to the circuit, at one hour perfused (1hrP) & non-perfused (1hrNP), at 4 hours perfused (4hrP) and non-perfused (4hrNP). Samples were stained with standard Haematoxylin–Eosin (HE) and immunohistochemically with Caspase-3 and M30 monoclonal antibodies. Positive cells were quantified using an ocular grid and expressed as number per square area. Cells positive for Caspase-3 & M30 antibodies were counted on the whole section. Data were expressed as median number per square millimetre. Statistical analysis was done using AVOVA and t-test.Results: After four hours of perfusion, multiple areas of perfusion defects appeared macroscopically in all 3 livers. HE staining confirmed that these non-perfused areas were ischaemic. There was a gradual increase in Caspase-3 expression over time in all samples. There was no statistically significant difference in the Capase-3 and M30 between the 9 specimens at 1hrP (P=0.06) but there was a highly significant difference between Caspase-3 and M30 at 1hrNP (0.001). Caspase-3 expression peaked at 4hrP (P=0.001) and 4hrNP (P=0.03). A similar pattern was noted with M30 which peaked at 1hrP (P=0.001) and maintained a non-significant expression at 4hrP (P=0.07) and 4hNP (P=0.1).Conclusion: The significant expression of Caspase-3 and M30 confirms that apoptosis plays an important part in tissue loss in this model of liver ischemia-reperfusion injury. Inhibiting both Caspase-3 and M30 might be useful in alleviating hepatic reperfusion injury.?

The present research explores how autonomous vehicle voice agent (AVVA) design influences autonomous vehicle passenger (AVP) intentions to adopt autonomous vehicles. An online experiment (N = 158) examined the role of gender stereotypes in response to an AVVA with respect to the technology acceptance model. The findings indicate that characteristics of the AVVA that are more consistent with the stereotypical expectation of the social role (informative male AVVA and social female AVVA) foster greater perceived ease of use (PEU) and perceived usefulness (PU) than inconsistent conditions (social male AVVA and informative female AVVA). The study offers theoretical implications regarding the technology acceptance model in the context of autonomous technologies as well as practical implications for the design of autonomous vehicle voice agents.

The study compared performance indicators of four major international rugby union competitions, namely Super Rugby, Aviva Premiership, Guinness Pro 12 and French Top 14. Most performance indicators of Aviva Premiership and Guinness Pro 12 rugby competitions were similar but distinctive from French Top 14 and Super Rugby competitions, which in turn were generally similar. The Aviva Premiership and Guinness Pro 12 had similar numbers of ball carries, tries, offloads, kicks, tackles, line-outs and scrums that were significantly higher than French Top 14 and Super Rugby. Offloads ( p = .0015) and tries ( p = .0368) were significantly higher for Super Rugby than the Guinness Pro 12, but the Guinness Pro 12 had significantly higher counts for carries ( p ≤ .0001), passes ( p = .0010) and kicks ( p = .0054). In contrast, counts of tackle breaks ( p ≤ .0001) and line breaks were significantly higher for Super Rugby in comparison to the Aviva Premiership ( p = .0057), Guinness Pro 12 ( p = .0064) and French Top 14 ( p ≤ .0001). All competitions showed areas of weakness and strength, which could be due to specific game plans followed in the unique pitch and weather conditions during competition.

ABSTRACT Background Orthodontic treatment has gained popularity since beginning of era of dentistry. Now a day, everyone is conscious about their appearance, smile and function. During orthodontic treatment use of brackets and adhesives are common. The bonding of brackets will cause demineralization which requires the fluoridation. So the study has been undertaken to analyze the pattern of fluoride release by commercially available adhesive bonding material for the prevention of demineralization. Aim To evaluate and compare the clinical significance of quantity and pattern of fluoride release from three commercially available adhesives. Objectives To assess the pattern of fluoride release and quantity, to reduce the decalcification of enamel around orthodontic brackets and bands during treatment and to prevent further use of topical fluoride both office and self-use agents for prevention of demineralization/for remineralization. Materials and methods The comparison of quantity and pattern of fluoride release study involved commercially available bonding adhesives. They are: Group I—resin reinforced glass Ionomer light cure material (OrthoLC), Group II—fluoride releasing composite resin material (Excel) and Group III— conventional composite (Relay-a-bond) evaluated on 78 freshly extracted premolar teeth divided into three groups consisting 26 specimens in each group. The prepared specimens were stored in artificial saliva at 37°C in an incubator for subsequent fluoride analysis using ORION ion selective electrode coupled with ionalyzer 901. Fluoride analysis made at 24 hours intervals for first 3 consecutive days and thereafter at the end of 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st day of bonding. The data obtained were tabulated and interpreted by statistical analysis using ‘t’ test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Observations and Results The quantity of fluoride release in groups I and II was significant even at the end of 31st day. The one-way AVOVA showed intra and inter group significance in the quantity of fluoride release. But group III with zero fluoride release with significant decalcification on enamel which requires external use of topical fluorides. The pattern of fluoride released was 3.06 ppm for group I and 2.01 ppm for group II and was declined sharply after 24 hours; and continued to decline in subsequent weeks. Mean quantity of fluoride release by group I was 15.08 ppm were as group II was 9.02 ppm over the test period of 31 days. At the end of 31st day the group I bonding adhesive was releasing considerable amount of fluoride compared to group II whereas group III was nil. At all the periods inter and intra group mean values were highly significant. And group III acted as base line or control group as it was non fluoride releasing material. Conclusion Both the fluoride releasing adhesive bond material are useful to reduce the risk of demineralization and further prevent the usage of topical fluoride application and reduce cost and clinical visiting time for both patient and clinician. Abstract Duncan Black è venuto meno il 14 gennaio 1991, in un anno, quindi, nel quale ricorre il trentesimo anniversario della scomparsa di Luigi Einaudi (1874-1961), cosa che rende molto attuale il ricordo delle relazioni intercorse tra questi due studiosi.Sebbene Duncan Black avesse pensato alia possibilità di costruire una teoria pura della politica sin dall’inizio delle sue meditazioni scientifiche, le sue prime opere furono dedicate alia scienza delle finanze, favorendo il contatto di Black con gli studi italiani in materia. Quando pubblicò il suo volume sull’incidenza delle imposte sul reddito (nel 1939), Black ne inviò copia ad Einaudi, che la fece recensire sulla sua rivista e lo ringraziò, ponendogli alcuni quesiti, cui Black rispose con una lettera che viene qui riprodotta. Si apprende da tale lettera che, tra l’altro, Black aveva intenzione di pubblicare un’antologia di scritti italiani di scienza delle finanze, cosa che fu impedita dalla guerra mondiale.Durante gli anni ‘50, Black aveva tentato di scrivere un articolo sull’opera di Mauro Fasiani, ma i suoi eccessivi scrupoli lo indussero a desistere. Nel 1983, quando Economia delle scelte pubbliche aveva iniziato le pubblicazioni, Black inviò alia direzione una lettera nella quale rendeva testimonianza della sua considerazione nei riguardi della teoria finanziaria italiana. Questa sua testimonianza è apparsa nel secondo numero della rivista, con il titolo «Personal Recollections» (n. 2 del 1983), dopo che lo stesso Black aveva autorizzato la sua pubblicazione, con una lettera che è anch’essa qui riprodotta.

. Attraverso una rilettura del caso clinico dell'Uomo dei topi di Freud del 1909, questo scritto si propone di dimostrare due tesi. La prima, che nella stesura del caso clinico Freud fu influenzato non solo da Jung, come ha sostenuto Mannoni (1969), ma anche dal pensiero che Adler aveva espresso in due relazioni alla Società Psicoanalitica di Vienna. In una di queste espose il caso di un paziente ereutofobico la cui infanzia aveva molti punti di contatto con quella del paziente di Freud, e nell'altra affrontò il tema del sadismo nella vita normale e nella nevrosi. Alcuni aspetti di queste relazioni sono rintracciabili nella scrittura di Freud. La seconda tesi sostiene che Freud non era in grado di mantenere la promessa, fatta all'inizio del suo scritto, di sviluppare le teorie del 1896 contenute in Nuove osservazioni sulle neuropsicosi di difesa perché nel frattempo aveva abbandonato la teoria del trauma sessuale che costituiva il perno di quelle teorie, e il trauma sessuale non svolgeva più alcun ruolo eziologico nel suo caso clinico, analogamente al caso clinico esposto da Adler.

Le espressioni "caso Galilei" e "questione galileiana" inducono gli studiosi a riflettere su un'analoga condanna, emessa dagli organismi repressivi della Chiesa cattolica, circa duecentocinquant'anni dopo la condanna di Galilei, contro un sacerdote il quale aveva cercato una conciliazione tra l'avanzamento nella riflessione filosofico-scientifica e la via della tradizione. Antonio Rosmini-Serbati fu condannato nel 1887 con il Decreto Post obitum del Santo Uffizio. A tale sentenza egli non poté sottomettersi come Galilei, in quanto era morto da ormai trentadue anni. Rosmini, prima della sua dipartita (1855), aveva avuto dalla Chiesa il dispiacere di una condanna all'Indice di due sue opere (1849); aveva tuttavia ricevuto l'assoluzione su tutta la linea circa la sua produzione filosofico-teologica (1854). Dopo la morte i suoi avversari impugnarono questa decisione ufficiale della Chiesa, riuscendo a farlo condannare. Anche per Rosmini gli storici parlano di "questione rosminiana", e di "caso Rosmini". Nel presente articolo si confrontano le dimensioni delle due "questioni", e si rileva che la "riabilitazione" di Rosmini è passata attraverso una Nota della Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede (2001), mentre nessun pronunciamento ufficiale ha "riabilitato" Galilei, verso il quale la cultura cattolica è stata largamente favorevole.

In sintesi si possono desumere, dall’analisi dei testi presentati, le seguenti deduzioni: il precario,che nacque come rapporto gratuito, poteva essere usato anche per fini alimentari, ma nel periodo classico questa sua funzione non era primaria. L’analisi dei testi rileva che la funzione base del precario, nel periodo menzionato, era di dare una elasticità ai negozi con i quali esso veniva collegato. Questo fenomeno si verificava spesso nell’ambito dei contratti che tendevano al trasferimento della propriétà. Il precarista aveva molte volte una aspettativa all’acquisizione della propriétà della cosa che aveva chiesto in precario. Collegando il pignus о la vendita alla concessione precaria non si facevano soltanto gli interessi del precarista, il quale poteva sfruttare la cosa prima del perfezionamento del contratto, ma anche quelli del concedente che non aveva nessun interesse a tenere la cosa presso di sé, mentre aveva bisogno di assicurare il suo diritto oltre le normali azioni derivanti dal contratto stipulato. La prova che spesso si ricorreva alla pratica di collegamento del precario con gli altri contratti, si desume dal corso dello sviluppo post-classico dell’istituto in questione. In quest’ultimo periodo il precario era divenuto un contratto stipulato per un tempo prestabilito ed a pagamento; esso è stato classificato come contractus innominatus e tutelato con l’actio prescripti verbis, dunque avendo assunto queste nuove caratteristiche, in particolare l’onerosité, è diventato affine alla locatio conductio. I compilatori tentarono di restituire al precario la sua struttura classica, ma dai testi collocati nel titolo ,,De precario” e da altri, disseminati nelle diverse parti del Digesto (che fanno riferimento all’istituto in questione), traspare la mancanza di una concezione unitaria dell’istituto. L’assenza di una struttura unica ha comportato che, nel periodo giustinianeo, il precario non ha svolto una funzione ben definita.

The discharge of acid mine drainage (AMD) from the abandoned sulphur and copper mines at Avoca (S.E. Ireland) results in the formation of ochreous deposits on the river substrate. Sediment sampling was carried out intensively during June and August, 1994 and again during March and April, 1995 to investigate seasonal variation of Fe, Cu and Zn concentration in riverine sediments of the receiving water (Avoca River). Temporal and spatial variations indicate that, apart from pH, hydrological factors play a major role in metal accumulation of highly energetic river systems. Zinc adsorption and desorption of “ochre” is chiefly regulated by pH, while Cu removal seems to be primarily by co-precipitation with iron. Basic considerations with regard to sampling techniques are discussed.

Il presente articolo riferisce sul percorso svolto da un numero esiguo di persone e coppie (N = 14) che hanno ragionato tra loro per tre anni, con il supporto di un conduttore, sull'esperienza di accoglienza che stanno vivendo. Una parte di loro aveva giŕ concluso un ciclo di genitorialitŕ attiva, aveva giŕ condotto i propri figli all'autonomia piena, alcuni erano nonni o lo sono diventati nel corso dei tre anni di frequenza al gruppo. Ma hanno scelto di rimettersi in gioco con un impegno genitoriale piů complesso e problematico del precedente, accogliendo bambini o ragazzi in difficoltŕ. L'ingresso nella loro famiglia di queste difficoltŕ e le complicazioni che ne conseguono, sfuggono spesso nella considerazione del servizio che gli affidatari prestano in appoggio ai centri istituzionalmente deputati a svolgere gli interventi di tutela. AbstractAcid mine-drainage from an abandoned Cu-S mine adit, located in the Avoca–Avonmore catchment in the southeast of Ireland, results in low-value ochre deposition. Ochre found on-site had similar physical (particle size 97.7% <2 mm and dry bulk density 0.8 g cm3), but dissimilar maximum P-retention characteristics (16–21 g P kg–1) to coal-mining ochre found in the UK. Stereomicroscopy identified oolites and diatoms in the ochre that were indicative of acidic environments. X-ray diffraction showed Fe mineralogy consisting of goethite, jarosite and minor amounts of ferrihydrite. Investigations by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry and bulk energy-dispersive spectroscopy showed potentially toxic concentrations of Fe, Zn, Pb, As and Cu. Rapid mobilization of metals occurred during P-adsorption tests, which makes Avoca ochre unsuitable for use in a surface-water environmental technology.

Dal 1879 si svolge un concorso per la realizzazione del monumento alle "Cinque Giornate" di Milano: l'insurrezione armata che per un breve periodo, nel 1848, aveva liberato la cittŕ dal dominio austriaco. Il desiderio dell'amministrazione municipale era quello di costruire un monumento architettonico utilizzabile, un porta o un grande portico presso i caselli daziari della Porta Vittoria che giŕ aveva quel nome perché presso di essa si erano svolte le fasi principali della battaglia. Si voleva risolvere cosě anche il problema urbanistico dell'accesso alla cittŕ lungo una direttrice in espansione. Le discussione dei critici e degli amministratori sui progetti presentati in un primo e poi in un secondo concorso offrono un quadro chiaro della lettura storica e simbolica dell'architettura, caratteristica della cultura italiana del tempo, ma infine, soprattutto per pressione dell'opinione pubblica, si abbandonerŕ il progetto per realizzare un grande monumento scultoreo.

Audiovisual (AV) speech perception is robust to temporal asynchronies between visual and auditory stimuli. We investigated the neural mechanisms that facilitate tolerance for audiovisual stimulus onset asynchrony (AVOA) with EEG. Individuals were presented with AV words that were asynchronous in onsets of voice and mouth movement and judged whether they were synchronous or not. Behaviorally, individuals tolerated (perceived as synchronous) longer AVOAs when mouth movement preceded the speech (V-A) stimuli than when the speech preceded mouth movement (A-V). Neurophysiologically, the P1-N1-P2 auditory evoked potentials (AEPs), time-locked to sound onsets and known to arise in and surrounding the primary auditory cortex (PAC), were smaller for the in-sync than the out-of-sync percepts. Spectral power of oscillatory activity in the beta band (14–30 Hz) following the AEPs was larger during the in-sync than out-of-sync perception for both A-V and V-A conditions. However, alpha power (8–14 Hz), also following AEPs, was larger for the in-sync than out-of-sync percepts only in the V-A condition. These results demonstrate that AVOA tolerance is enhanced by inhibiting low-level auditory activity (e.g., AEPs representing generators in and surrounding PAC) that code for acoustic onsets. By reducing sensitivity to acoustic onsets, visual-to-auditory onset mapping is weakened, allowing for greater AVOA tolerance. In contrast, beta and alpha results suggest the involvement of higher-level neural processes that may code for language cues (phonetic, lexical), selective attention, and binding of AV percepts, allowing for wider neural windows of temporal integration, i.e., greater AVOA tolerance.
