The sophomore PE student-athlete respondents are mostly males and specialize in sports-inclined varied landscapes, with football, track and field, and basketball emerging as the most prevalent sports specializations. This only shows that there are more male athletes involved. The respondents of the sophomore student-athletes are moderately aware of the implementation of the disaster management system specifically in the Prevention of the Disaster, Mitigation of the Disaster, Preparedness for the Disaster, and Assessing the Risks of the Disaster while Response to the Disaster and Recovering from Disaster. Therefore, the relevance of the results extends to the broader educational mission of promoting holistic development in student-athletes. By instilling a culture of preparedness, resilience, and civic responsibility, institutions can equip student-athletes with valuable life skills beyond the athletic field. holistic development in student-athletes. By instilling a culture of preparedness, resilience, and civic responsibility, institutions can equip student-athletes with valuable life skills beyond the athletic field. No significant difference exists in the assessment of student-athlete respondents on their profile. The focus group discussion among PE teachers who teach disaster management is just an integration that requires a further appreciation of the subject to be more effectively taught to students. Based on the conclusions derived from this study, this research came up with the following recommendations. It just shows that more male athletes are involved. It is prepared and knows the remedies that should be carried out in the event of a disaster. It is suggested that the institution have a specific organization for students who respond or help during a disaster to cultivate a culture of caring for others that student-athletes can lead because of their agile actions. Teachers who teach disaster management should think of more engaging activities to increase students' appreciation of cultivating a culture of caring for others during disasters regardless of their gender, age, and specialization in sports.

In recent years, sports wearable technology has completely changed the way athletes prepare, compete, and recover. Wearable technology has a lot to offer in the rehabilitation process, which is essential to an athlete’s return to their best performance. Wearable devices for athlete injury detection pose potential challenges like data quality, security, and privacy, impacting accuracy, reliability, and effectiveness. To solve these problems, an innovative injury detection and rehabilitation monitoring (IDRM) system was proposed for athletes. By employing an adjustable recurrent neural network (ARNN) to detect anomalies in injury risks such as abnormal joint movements in athletes. In this study, biomechanics data was collected from sports athletes through wearable devices, and the wearable system provided feedback to the user. A redefined convolutional neural network (RCNN) was utilized to monitor the rehabilitation process. This system tracks athlete’s rehabilitation progress and ensures that progress monitors were performed correctly, and the system, feasibility was evaluated on 10 healthy subjects performing 4 different rehabilitation exercises. Each exercise was performed four times monitoring and validation. The data was preprocessed using a Gaussian filter to remove noise from the obtained data. Then the features are extracted using independent component analysis (ICA) for dimensionality reduction from preprocessed data. The proposed method is implemented using Python software. In comparative analysis, the performance of ARNN showed high performance, with an F1-measure of 91.6%, accuracy of 93.5%, recall of 92.8%, and precision of 91.4%. With a 95% accuracy rate, 98% F1 measure, 94% precision, and 93% recall, the RCNN model functioned effectively. The result showed the proposed method achieved better performance in athlete injury detection and accurately recognizing all rehabilitation monitoring. This study provides a complete approach to athlete health management by highlighting the integration of rehabilitation monitoring and injury detection into an overall structure.

To achieve success, each sport requires an excellent state of formation of physical and mental qualities. In the case when the sports training of athletes is at the same level, the main and decisive moment for winning the competition is psychological readiness. Athletes are trained in different areas, but very often the inability to cope with their emotions can lead to defeat, despite years of training. With the active participation of a psychologist in the training process, it becomes possible to characterize the individual characteristics of the athlete, the formation and development of mental qualities necessary for victory. One of the activities of a sports psychologist is the timeliness of determining the features of the psyche, the development of an individual plan for the development of abilities, strategies for pre-competitive and competitive behavior. Psychodiagnostics plays an important role in the development of the athlete's personality and further activities of the coach. Thanks to psychodiagnostics there is a formation of psychological and pedagogical and psychohygienic recommendations, planning of system of actions on athletes. Psychodiagnostics aims to study the athlete. In this process, the coach helps to objectively assess the personality of the athlete. Psychohygienic recommendations of a psychologist and a coach are closely related. After all, in the system "coach-athlete-psychologist" they directly affect the mental state of the athlete. There are many examples in the history of sports when a timely word, pause, gesture, support decided the fate of persistent confrontation. Every athlete in his professional career goes through crisis periods, which are caused by various reasons: defeat in the competition, transition to another team, change of coach, problems in personal life. Diversity in the work of the coach, the importance of a number of auxiliary functions in the work of the latter (administration, regulation, management) does not allow to adequately assess the problems and troubles of the athlete as a person. This is the task of a sports psychologist - to create an atmosphere of complete trust and mutual understanding, to establish contact with the athlete to reveal personal problems, which will effectively affect his condition, help the athlete understand their problems, find a way out of difficult situations sports achievements.

Background: Little existing data describe which medical professionals and which medical studies are used to assess sport-related concussions in high school athletes. Purpose: To describe the medical providers and medical studies used when assessing sport-related concussions. To determine the effects of medical provider type on timing of return to play, frequency of imaging, and frequency of neuropsychological testing. Study Design: Descriptive epidemiology study. Methods: All concussions recorded by the High School Reporting Information Online (HS RIO) injury surveillance system during the 2009 to 2010 academic year were included. χ2 analyses were conducted for categorical variables. Fisher exact test was used for nonparametric data. Logistic regression analyses were used when adjusting for potential confounders. Statistical significance was considered for P < .05. Results: The HS RIO recorded 1056 sport-related concussions, representing 14.6% of all injuries. Most (94.4%) concussions were assessed by athletic trainers (ATs), 58.8% by a primary care physician. Few concussions were managed by specialists. The assessment of 21.2% included computed tomography. Computerized neuropsychological testing was used for 41.2%. For 50.1%, a physician decided when to return the athlete to play; for 46.2%, the decision was made by an AT. After adjusting for potential confounders, no associations between timing of return to play and the type of provider (physician vs AT) deciding to return the athlete to play were found. Conclusion: Concussions account for nearly 15% of all sport-related injuries in high school athletes. The timing of return to play after a sport-related concussion is similar regardless of whether the decision to return the athlete to play is made by a physician or an AT. When a medical doctor is involved, most concussions are assessed by primary care physicians as opposed to subspecialists. Computed tomography is obtained during the assessment of 1 of every 5 concussions occurring in high school athletes.

As one of the emerging themes in research on sport management leadership, servant leadership focuses on facilitating individual growth and moral development. The present study tested a hypothesized research model that demonstrates support for the effects of a head coach's servant leadership on athletes' ethical development and team outcome confidence through the quality that characterizes the coach–athlete relationship. We recruited 347 student-athletes of football teams and men's basketball teams who play under the Division I system of the US National Collegiate Athletic Association. Whereas the quality of the coach–athlete relationship partially mediated the association between servant leadership and ethical development, it fully mediated the paths from servant leadership to team outcome confidence. This study provides empirical support for the positive influence of servant leadership behaviors and advances an improved understanding of the role played by the aforementioned relationship quality in coaching leadership research.

Fans of college sports embrace the idea of athletes playing sport and, in turn, receiving tuition scholarships that provide them an opportunity to trade athletic talent for a free education. A contradictory body of research using internal colonization theory posits that the trade of education for playing sports is not a fair exchange but is fraught with exploitation that continues to perpetuate subjugation. An accepted narrative in athletic competition is that the recruiting pipeline draws athletes from impoverished inner-city areas engaging young athletes who experience difficulties keeping up scholastically becoming academically resistant as they focus on their sport at the expense of their academics. Biopsychosocial and developmental neuroscience research recognizes outside social factors as variables that affect the development of the brain, thus influencing basic mechanical operations of specific brain structures. This dissertation breaks new ground by utilization of the 10-question Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Inventory to explore a possible relationship between ACE scores and Academic Resistance (AR), ACE scores and Locus of Control, and ACE scores and Identity Foreclosure. Using the T-test to determine a relationship between 194 participants’ ACE scores and AR, the findings showed the probability of Type I error of 5%, to be that the AR of student athletes with an ACE score >=2, n=94, to be significantly higher than the AR of student athletes with an ACE

Bard, Amanda E. „The Effectiveness of Resistance Exercises in the Management of Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome“. Scholarship @ Claremont, 2013. http://scholarship.claremont.edu/scripps_theses/279.

Annotation:
Medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS) is a stress and overuse injury that presents as pain on the medial aspect of the lower two-thirds of the tibia. It is most often caused by repetitive actions on hard surfaces such as running, marching, and dancing. Individuals most affected by MTSS are runners, members of the military, dancers, and athletes that play soccer, volleyball and basketball. While MTSS has a relatively standard presentation of pain on the medial aspect of the tibia, it can occasionally be mistaken for other injuries such as stress fractures or compartment syndrome. If a diagnosis is unsure, methods such as x-ray, bone-scan, and MRI can be utilized to better obtain the correct diagnosis. A variety of treatments exist for MTSS including, ice, massage, muscle strengthening, and rest. A combination of these various techniques is most often what is employed. In this study, the effectiveness of a set of resistance ankle exercises in combination with ice and massage was tested and compared to that of ice and massage alone. The hypothesis was that athletes receiving the exercises as part of their treatment, in addition to the icing and massaging, would have a greater decrease in pain from MTSS than athletes just receiving ice and massage as treatment. The exercises would strengthen the muscles of the lower leg that, when weak, can contribute to the development of MTSS. Results indicated that the exercises yielded a more significant decrease in pain from MTSS than ice and massage alone.

This research combines systems and critical theory to analyze the relationship of the athletic department and the institutional development office. The purpose of the study was to propose a model of coordinated athletic fund raising based upon a theoretical framework that explains athletic fund raising as an organizational function within the context of the interdependencies of a system. In the first phase of the research, a theory-based model of coordinated athletic fund raising is set forth. Several key characteristics of a coordinated approach are identified. In the second phase, results of telephone interviews with athletic fund raisers at Division I institutions are reported. Basic descriptive statistics and qualitative data analysis techniques are used to present a full and rich picture of how athletic fund raisers assess the relationship between the two offices. In the third phase of the research, a comparison is made between empirical findings and the model. Relationships between development offices and athletic departments vary greatly in nature and in scope. The majority of athletic fund raisers report that the relationship between the athletic department and development office is strained. Poor relationships may be deleterious to the athletic fund raising effort. A comparison of reported existing relationships to the model suggests that few existing relationships approach the level of coordination presented in the model. The theory-based model is determined to be useful in providing insights into the complex forces that affect athletic fund raising. Recommendations for moving relationships closer to the model focus on strategies that athletic fund raisers can employ to improve the relationship. Recommendations to athletic fund raisers include finding ways to produce and market critical fund raising resources to the development office; emphasizing negotiation as a strategy to improve exchanges; and working to establish better feedback mechanisms and more open lines of communication with the institutional development office.

As the rate and level of youth athletic participation continues to rise, so does the frequency of injury to the trunk and upper extremities in these young athletes. Injuries are varied in severity and frequency. Additionally, injury patterns are unique to the growing musculoskeletal system and specific to the demands of the sport. The treatment of these injuries is also varied, ranging from preventative, to non-operative, to operative. Recognition of injury patterns with early activity modification and the initiation of efficacious treatment can potentially prevent invasive treatments, future deformity, or disability, and return the young athlete to sport. This chapter discusses the diagnosis and management of common upper extremity and trunk injuries in the paediatric athlete, including joint injuries, fractures, repetitive microtrauma, tendonitis, ligament injuries, and back pain.

Chapter 47 gives an overview on sports-related injuries of the lower limb in children with emphasis on the management. Overall, injuries in children are uncommon, and although their incidence increases with age, most are self-limiting and have no long-term effects. Any sport can cause musculoskeletal injuries, and this chapter discusses how the specific pattern and location of injuries of each sport should be known by health professionals, as well as how training programmes and performance standards should take into account the biological age of the participants, and their physical and psychological immaturity, more than their chronological age. A deep knowledge of the different aspects of training, including duration, intensity, frequency, and recovery, are also discussed as being needed to avoid serious damage to the musculoskeletal system of athletic children.

Abstract As the rate and level of youth athletic participation continues to rise, so too does the frequency of injury to the trunk and upper extremities in these young athletes. Injuries are varied in severity and frequency and injury patterns are unique to the growing musculoskeletal system and specific to the demands of the sport. The treatment of these injuries vary from preventive, to non-operative, to operative. This chapter reviews the diagnosis and clinical management of common upper extremity and trunk injuries in the paediatric athlete, including shoulder injuries, elbow injuries, wrist and hand injuries, and trunk injuries.

This chapter explored the characteristics of Chinese athletes' self-presentation and para-social interaction on social media using Goffman's self-presentation and para-social interaction theories. With the policies consciously supporting sport promotion in China, how to balance the commercialization and national glories, even the entertainment part is the linchpin of this. A content analysis of 552 Weibo posted by 10 male Chinese table tennis athletes was conducted. Results found that many Weibo posts are about interactivity (33%), especially with their teammates or coaches. Athletes also tend to be more personal on social media by posting amusing or emotional tweets. All showed that they present themselves as more of a marketing one but still under the frame of “the whole nation system.” Only a few Weibo were promotional (9%), indicating that the potential of achieving market objectives has not come to athletes' full awareness. Suggestions are athletes enhance the relationship with fans so as to enlarge the influence of themselves and the sport per se.

Balance, spatial orientation and stable vision are imperative factors for sports or any other physical activity. It is achieved and maintained by a complex integration set of sensorimotor control systems that include sensory input from vision, proprioception or somatosensory and the vestibular system. A Sport-Related Concussion (SRC) is an individualized injury that presents a range of clinical signs and symptoms (cognitive, physical, emotional, somatic, and sleep-related). For this reason, SPR is a meaningful public health issue that involves a multidisciplinary team to properly manage it. In the sports medicine filed, Sports-Related Concussion assessment and management has become an argumentative issue. Presently, the consensus includes a combination of subjective examination, combined by multifactorial evaluation batteries that allowed to verify several components of brain function. Athletes frequently complain of dizziness and imbalance subsequent a concussion, and these symptoms can expect increased period to recover and return to play. Balance assessment is an important component of the concussion evaluation, as it can contribute with an awareness about the function of the sensorimotor systems.

The article focuses on the issues of embracing integrated control in sports as a tool for athlete training management. Currently, in order to determine the functional state and physical fitness of athletes, conventional control methods are currently widely complemented with diagnostic equipment. Its application in athlete training management has been proven quite efficient. Owing to modern approaches to integrated control, it becomes feasible to prevent the overtraining of athletes. The significance of integrated control increases with the growth of performance in all sports, including skiing. At that, the training process becomes more intense and the workload increases. Hence, it is clear that the matter of integrated control has been growing in relevance. In the course of the study of top-class skiers, functional status and physical fitness were monitored using modern diagnostic equipment. In particular, testing was carried out with the MARG device, which revealed the body’s functional state, impaired regulation of the cardiovascular system and overtraining. The skiers’ speed and power abilities were also assessed using a Techno Gym Bike Forma vertical ergometer (Italy). Cardiovascular system adaptation to physical loads was tested via a bicycle ergometer with a sequentially increasing load. The test findings enabled the evaluation of the athletes’ preparedness, which consequently allowed for further training sessions to be planned. The coronavirus epidemic outbreak has affected all aspects of the athlete’s training, including the implementation of comprehensive controls. The possibility of conducting comprehensive online monitoring should be sought.

This study is part of the Special Olympics Healthy Communities project, entitled ,,Close the referral loop", carried out in partnership with Vodafone Romania Foundation, financed through Mobile4Good program. This project seeks to build on a unique global database and move onwards from data gathering to using the current data to empower athletes and their families to transform their health outcomes through self-advocacy and informed management of their own health through Athletes Personal Health Records with two-way interactivity with athletes' mobile devices. If an athlete has a referral recommended at a Healthy Athletes screening event, details of the referral are automatically recorded in the athlete's health record. In this context, the athlete's mobile phone is used to alert athletes that a medical referral has been recommended. To be inclusive for all Special Olympics athletes the mobile health solution needs to be available on the common mobile devices on the standard operating systems of mobile phone and tablets including Android, Symbian, Windows Mobile, iPhone and iPad. The pilot study, followed by two other screening events (between 2012-2013) which took place at UNEFS gathered a total of 458 subjects whose data were digitally entered in the system which further generated SMS follow-up messages. This application renders possible digital data entry on cell phone and tablets, two way interactive messaging to athletes' cell phones and tablets to close the referral loop after Healthy Athletes events, two way interactive messaging to athletes' cell phones and tablets for follow up of services and devices given at Healthy Athletes events and athlete data entry into their personal health record.

The effectiveness of increasing the sportsmanship of junior girls in middle distance running is largely determined by the degree of management of training loads. The system of training loads of juniors and young athlete athletes is covered by the general principles of their construction, adopted in sports training, such as the systemic alternation of loads and rest, increased developmental and training effects and the balance of their dynamics, unity of progression and tendency to maximum loads, wave-like dynamics of loads. The leading position of the system for managing the preparation of runners of the athletics reserve provides that the loads should, on the one hand, be adequate to the age characteristics of girls, juniors, young athletes, and on the other, be oriented to the level characteristic of higher sportsmanship. In this case, the total volumes of training load at certain stages of long-term training should be correlated with the stage of higher sportsmanship, its first phase - the norms of loads of masters of sports.

Investigators at Triangle Research and Development Corporation (TRDC) have developed materials and applications for enhanced thermal management using both micro-and macro-encapsulated phase change materials (PCMs) since 1983; including: microPCM coolants, coatings, composites, fibers and PCM apparel. The PECS™ (Personal Environmental Control System) was developed for microclimate body cooling beneath NBC (Nuclear-Biological-Chemical) protective clothing for the US NAVY and USMC (Colvin, 1997 and 2000). Similar cooling apparel using 3–4mm macroPCM COOLBEADS™ were developed for costumed characters at two theme parks as well as potential use by firemen (Colvin, 1998). The results for these programs were reported at the 2000 and 2002 ASME ICEME (Colvin, 2000 and 2002). Civilian apparel has included 3.5 lb and 5 lb vests, a 1.5 lb cowl as well as a 1-lb collar, which suggested the potential for the microclimate cooling of athletes. Extreme heat during outdoor sporting events can be a major problem for athletes. Competitive runners, who often generate 700–900 W/m2, commonly deal with temperatures above 32.2°C (90°F) and a relative humidity greater than 80%. Natural cooling by evaporation and convection are often inadequate for a vigorously exercising athlete. Many athletes fatigue, drop out or have to wrap their chest and shoulders with ices and towels in order to finish the races. Ice and frozen gels, however, are uncomfortable, heavy, and can cause the blood vessels to constrict, thus restricting good blood circulation. Encapsulated PCMs can store 60 J/kg and the air spaces between the particles permit evaporation and convection as well as rapid thermal recharging. Development of an effective cooling collar could potentially permit competitive athletes to combat heat exhaustion and increase the body’s ability to dissipate heat.
