Background Musculoskeletal conditions are managed within primary care, but patients can be referred to secondary care if a specialist opinion is required. The ever-increasing demand for health care resources emphasizes the need to streamline care pathways with the ultimate aim of ensuring that patients receive timely and optimal care. Information contained in referral letters underpins the referral decision-making process but is yet to be explored systematically for the purposes of treatment prioritization for musculoskeletal conditions. Objective This study aims to explore the feasibility of using natural language processing and machine learning to automate the triage of patients with musculoskeletal conditions by analyzing information from referral letters. Specifically, we aim to determine whether referral letters can be automatically assorted into latent topics that are clinically relevant, that is, considered relevant when prescribing treatments. Here, clinical relevance is assessed by posing 2 research questions. Can latent topics be used to automatically predict treatment? Can clinicians interpret latent topics as cohorts of patients who share common characteristics or experiences such as medical history, demographics, and possible treatments? Methods We used latent Dirichlet allocation to model each referral letter as a finite mixture over an underlying set of topics and model each topic as an infinite mixture over an underlying set of topic probabilities. The topic model was evaluated in the context of automating patient triage. Given a set of treatment outcomes, a binary classifier was trained for each outcome using previously extracted topics as the input features of the machine learning algorithm. In addition, a qualitative evaluation was performed to assess the human interpretability of topics. Results The prediction accuracy of binary classifiers outperformed the stratified random classifier by a large margin, indicating that topic modeling could be used to predict the treatment, thus effectively supporting patient triage. The qualitative evaluation confirmed the high clinical interpretability of the topic model. Conclusions The results established the feasibility of using natural language processing and machine learning to automate triage of patients with knee or hip pain by analyzing information from their referral letters.

Anthropologists researching children’s lives have incredible stories to tell. How might we best tell them in readable ways that will appeal to “ordinary readers” beyond our colleagues and students? In this article, I explore the possibilities of “alternative” ways to write ethnography in general, and the ethnography of children in particular. Given children’s nature, I argue that creative approaches to writing children’s lives are especially appropriate and powerful. In the first section, I consider a variety of adventurous ethnographic writing on assorted topics; in the second section, I discuss some creative approaches to ethnographic writing focused, specifically, on children.

Abstract:The Jeremy Newman Papers are a new source for the study of colonial Kenya. The collection includes a variety of assorted documents, but most importantly, the transcripts of thirty-one interviews carried out by Newman in Machakos District in Kenya's Eastern Province in 1973 and 1974. Newman interviewed thirty members of the Kamba ethnic group – and one European setder – all of whom were born between approximately 1895 and 1920. The interviews range widely, touching on topics such as education, European settlement, politics, trade, the First and Second World Wars, Mau Mau, and especially the destocking episode of 1938.

As a feedback control methodology exclusively targeting asynchronous sequential machines (ASMs), corrective control has been rapidly developing for the past two decades. This paper presents a comprehensive survey on the theory and application of dynamic corrective control in which the controller also has the form of an ASM. First, basic notions and principles of dynamic corrective control, including models of ASMs and configurations of closed-loop systems, are reviewed. Next, assorted dynamic corrective control schemes are presented aiming at solving specific control problems of ASMs, such as model matching and fault-tolerant control. Variations of control aspects are classified according to modeling formalisms of controlled ASMs—input/state, input/output, and composite ASMs—and involved fault characteristics, such as transient, permanent, and intermittent faults and intelligent attacks. Representative results on the application of fault-tolerant corrective control to real-world engineering systems are also provided with an emphasis on space-borne digital systems. Finally, some challenging topics for future studies on corrective control are discussed.

Ibn Qutayba (d. 276 AH / 889 AD) was attentive in both the Arabic linguistics‏ ‏and its literature, ‎whereas he hath assorted numerous workbooks which testify his care about, and those who came ‎after, have been benefited from his critical material on the fields of language and literature, this ‎incipit of the research is concerned with reading Ibn Qutayba's linguistic views through the ‎subject of his book Adab al-Kātib “The Writer's Literature” particularly those related to ‎orthography and solecism in the Arabs’ language, and the importance of the research lies in ‎shedding light on the Arab linguistic legacy in the third century AH\ ninth century AD, and ‎displaying the impact of Ibn Qutayba in it, and the objective of the research is to analyze what ‎was mentioned in two important linguistic topics from the book of Adab al-Kātib “The Writer’s ‎Literature” which are: the topic of rectification of the hand and the topic of rectification of the ‎tongue, which they are both linguistic topics that show the prevailing linguistics status in the era ‎of Ibn Qutayba, thence, they are also considered a door to understanding the linguistic opinions ‎that the writer gleaned from his wells and sheikhs.‎ The research deals with linguistic problems related to the orthography and the Arab solecism and ‎phonetics among the populace in the era of Ibn Qutayba, relying on a research framework that ‎begins with a preamble considering both the writer and the book, and then deals with the ‎linguistics status in the third century AH through what was mentioned in the book’s sermon, then ‎he presents some of what was mentioned in his book Adab al-Kātib ”The Writer’s Literature” in ‎the two chapters; rectification of the hand and rectification of the tongue, then epitomized the ‎disputations between Ibn Qutayba and the commentators of his book regarding the two ‎mentioned sections, and the research is concluded with a brief epilogue that presents his most ‎prominent conclusions.‎

Abstract With the glorious discovery of graphene back in 2004, the field of nanotechnology was faced with a breakthrough that soon attracted the attention of many scientists from all over the world. Owing to its unique bidimensional structure and exquisite physicochemical properties, graphene has successfully managed to cave its way up to the list of the most investigated topics, while being extensively used in various fields of science and technology. However, serious concerns have been raised about the safety of graphene, for which numerous studies have been conducted to evaluate the toxicity of graphene derivatives in both in vitro and in vivo conditions. The reproductive toxicity of graphene is one of the most important aspects of this subject as it not only affects the individual but can also potentially put the health of one’s offsprings at risk and display long-term toxic effects. Given the crucial importance of graphene’s reproductive toxicity, more attention has been recently shifted toward this subject; however, the existing literature remains insufficient. Therefore, we have conducted this review with the aim of providing researchers with assorted information regarding the toxicity of graphene derivatives and their underlying mechanisms, while mentioning some of the major challenges and gaps in the current knowledge to further elucidate the path to exploring graphene’s true nature. We hope that our work will effectively give insight to researchers who are interested in this topic and also aid them in completing the yet unfinished puzzle of graphene toxicity.

This thesis collects four papers on monetary economics written under the supervision of Professor Rubens Penha Cysne. The first of these papers assesses the bias occuring in welfare-cost-of-inflation measures due to failing to take into consideration the substitution potential of interest-bearing monies such as bank deposits. The second one tackles the theoretical issue of comparing the generality of the money-in-the-utility-function- and the shopping-time models by studying the properties of the demand curves they generate. The third of these works revisits a classic paper by Stanley Fischer on the correlation between the growth rate of money supply and the rate of capital accumulation on the transition path. Finally, the fourth one concerns the relative standing of each one of six measures of the welfare cost of inflation (one of which is new) with respect to the other five, and an estimate of the maximum relative error one can incur by choosing to employ a particular welfare measure in place of the others.
Esta tese é uma coleção de quatro artigos em economia monetária escritos sob a supervisão do Professor Rubens Penha Cysne. O primeiro desses artigos calcula o viés presente em medidas do custo de bem-estar da inflação devido a não se levar em conta o potencial substitutivo de moedas que rendem juros, como depósitos bancários.[1] O segundo se concentra na questão teórica de se comparar os escopos dos tradicionais modelos money-in-the-utility-function e shopping-time através do estudo das propriedades das curvas de demanda que eles geram.[2] O terceiro desses trabalhos revisita um artigo clássico de Stanley Fischer sobre a correlação entre a taxa de crescimento da oferta monetária e a taxa de acumulação de capital no caminho de transição.[3] Finalmente, o quarto diz respeito à posição relativa de cada uma de seis medidas do custo de bem-estar da inflação (uma das quais é nova) em relação às outras cinco, e uma estimativa do erro relativo máximo em que o pesquisador pode incorrer devido a sua escolha de empregar uma dessas medidas qualquer vis-à-vis as outras.

This chapter focuses on John Brunner's works from 1967 to 1975. These include Quicksand (1967), which garnered testy and argumentative reviews; Zanzibar (1968), which went on to garner Nebula and Hugo nominations; The Sheep Look Up (1972), his darkest novel set in the United States as it enters its “third century” as a nation; and The Shockwave Rider (1975), which Brunner described as convenient “shorthand” for dealing with the vicissitudes of the human mind. Brunner also contributed five columns on assorted topics to Science Fiction Review between December 1969 and March 1971. By the mid-1970s, Brunner largely dropped out of view and stopped writing science fiction.

Abstract The stories in this book come from a source close to the palace in the formative decades of the Roman Empire. Phaedrus was a freedman of Augustus who put Aesop’s Fables into five books of Latin verse in the reign of Tiberius. (The sparse and tantalizing biographical evidence is examined in Chapter 3.) He included a fair number of stories and anecdotes on everyday life situations and topics, and as he went on, he expanded the range to include, as well as assorted satirical bits and pieces, several distinctive ‘Roman tales’.

Abstract Within the collection of 150 psalms written over the course of a millennium, there is great diversity of material. Just as there are different kinds of songs nowadays (ballads, anthems, hymns, folk tunes) and assorted musical genres (classical, jazz, country, hip-hop), so there are numerous categories and styles of psalms. In this chapter various genres of psalms are canvassed, including the most frequently attested: psalms of lament and psalms of the temple. There is also some discussion about how the poetic medium was utilized to explore important topics such as alienation and suffering, child-rearing woes and vocational anxieties, fear of the future and situations of deep distress, in addition to the seemingly mundane circumstances of everyday routine as opportunities to experience the divine presence.

Abstract This chapter, significantly influenced by the work of David Lewin and drawing extensively on group theory, explores the rich and complex theory of interval spaces. Topics include label functions for interval spaces, homomorphisms and isomorphisms of interval spaces, direct products and quotients of interval spaces, generalized transposition and inversion operators, and interval-preserving and interval-reversing mappings. A series of theorems summarize many of the most important properties, including general forms of the Babbitt hexachord theorem and the duality between transpositions and interval-preserving mappings. Commutative interval spaces receive the most attention, but some noncommutative examples are also discussed. Assorted musical examples are presented, several of them involving cross-type interval-preserving and interval-reversing mappings between two different scalar spaces.

Abstract This chapter explores how intellectual historians have studied visions of international and global politics. I focus on some of the contrasting purposes that have been claimed for historical scholarship, and I survey assorted debates that have shaped the field in recent years. The first section, ‘Practices and Purposes’ outlines some of the roles that have been claimed for intellectual history, from illuminating the tangled development of human thought to informing contemporary theorizing. The second section, ‘Trends and Trajectories’ discusses topics that have drawn attention in recent years, focusing especially on empire and disciplinary history. The final section, ‘Exclusions and Expansions’ examines long marginalized themes, above all gender and race, and highlights how work addressing them is pushing the field in exciting new directions.

This contribution analyses the online video offer of local and regional daily newspapers. A sample of local and regional landscape press of 15 German newspaper1 websites offering online videos was investigated. The investigation was carried out with the method of a quantitative content analysis on the basis of an artificial week. The findings show that daily newspapers mainly place purchased videos of external providers (92 percent) in the local and regional area and hardly produced any material by themselves. The videos are themed accordingly: Only 16.2 percent of the videos deal with regional or local topics, and the lion’s share is taken by international topics (44.7 percent), while topics related to Germany in any way achieve about one third (31.5 percent). Almost half of the videos can be assorted to the “miscellaneous“ desk and, the reporting on political, economic, and social topics, as well as about sports and culture, is less comprehensive. It is also shown that videos are hardly used as a supplement of the remaining editorial offer of the Internet sites and that internal links to other pieces are hardly ever made. In conclusion, online videos are a fixed component of many local and regional news offers of daily newspapers on the Internet, today, but are however hardly used as an addition to the own local reporting competence.

The first task of this survey is to determine the popularity of Indian cuisine, Continental cuisine dishes are more popular than Indian cuisine dishes. We should understand consumer misconceptions about Indian Cuisine dishes, The objective of the study is to identify the dishes and the ingredients of Indian cuisine. For a better understanding of Indian cuisine, this topic I have chosen. The misconception about Indian cuisine can be eradicated by comparing this cuisine to another cuisine of different regions. Many people do not have proper knowledge about the variety of dishes that comes under Indian cuisine. People don‘t know the ingredients, tastes, and flavours of the dishes. As we all know about Indian cuisine dishes like dal makhani, assorted Indian bread, rice, mixed vegetables, biryani, butter chicken, jeera rice, etc. So, researching this is more important than others A structured questionnaire was prepared, and this research shows that it is not only delicious but also healthy, rice, pulses, spices, curry powder, ghee, mustard oil and seasonal vegetables are widely used in the preparation of dishes. The study will remove misconceptions about Indian cuisine & awareness programs should be raised and put Indian foods in menu cards by doing menu engineering to aware consumers of Indian cuisine. This leaves a lot of opportunities for future entrepreneurs to enter in food business of Indian cuisine, they should work more on the marketing of all state‘s popular dishes by improving the menu
