Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe voluntary sector has taken an important place in our contemporary societies. It is a topic of study for sociology. The increase of the collective, social and public sphere also makes of the association, a useful organization for the Civil Society and the Firm.Under various names, she was imperative to regulate occupations, jobs, businesses, commercial activities, products, markets and even firms. In the sector of Coffees, Hotels and Restaurants, the strategic potential of associations of support to the firm such as the Company of France’s Best Workers, the advertising cooperatives of the franchise networks, the Escoffier’s Followers, the Hospitality Modernization French Committee or the ACCOR Franchisees Federation is analyzed. Four groups of theories (sociological theories, theories of the nature of the association, Institutions theories and Organizations theories) allows to highlight its purpose and its utility to the firm. At the appropriate specificities of this type of organization corresponds an independent management approach which borrows from the management of the public and private affairs

Around the world, people who live on lakes are dealing with significant declines in lake water quality. These declines have been linked to various land management decisions, which can introduce excess nutrients to the lake system that promote excessive algal or bacterial growth, and to the ways people choose to use the lake resource, which can introduce non-native, or invasive, plant and animal species. In many lake communities, local volunteer groups called lake associations work to protect their local lake resources. Lake associations can respond to the specific problems facing their lake and act to manage the lake resource and the land around it. Yet, there is little research on the role these groups actively or potentially play in lake management and conservation. This study investigates the specific organizational structures and strategies lake associations and similar groups use to address water quality declines in lake communities. I collected historic documentation and completed oral interviews for two case study associations, Lake Sunapee Protective Association (LSPA; Sunapee, NH) and Clean Lakes Alliance (CLA; Madison, WI), to characterize and compare their missions, organizational capacities, and activities. This analysis allows me to better understand what makes these groups effective and the functions they serve in their communities. I found that, although the two groups are structured differently and implement different strategies to achieve outcomes, they both have been effective in achieving lake management and conservation outcomes in line with their respective missions. This is a first step in identifying the diversity of ways community-based conservation organizations, such as lake associations, can meaningfully contribute to local environmental management and conservation.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe patient associations assume a significant role in representing the patients’ rights, sharing information on the diseases, accessing the available resources, maintaining important interactions with other relevant stakeholders and facing challenges. These organizations provide an important support not only to the patients, but also to their families and friends, who are most of the times their direct caregivers. Currently, the patient empowerment has been highly discussed. This project aims to demonstrate in five different clinical disorders what are the motivations, the objectives, the activities, the involvement with other stakeholders and the challenges assumed by the correspondent patient associations. The result of this project allowed to conclude that the significant prevalence of chronic diseases has been introducing changes into the healthcare systems and national disease programmes. Simultaneously, the patients’ ownership has been increasing, contributing to a more participated role near the healthcare professionals and to a more conscious decision regarding the available therapeutics. Patient associations represent these patients and act in critical areas, such as, social, clinical, research, training, education and advocacy.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleNon-profit organizations always supported State’s expansion as intermediate bodies or partners of the public authorities for the implementation of social policies. Since the 1st of July 1901 law, non-profit organizations have benefited from a detailed and protective legal framework, later completed by a specific tax regime adapted to their non-profit status. The public authorities formerly granted aid to the voluntary sector until the combination of two factors forced them to change their strategy: the financial crisis of the 1980’s, then again in 2007 and the liberal European policies inciting fair trade with no State interventions. Policies of economic liberalization cut down public support compelling the voluntary sector gradually to turn to private funding and forcing it into a new world: the commercial sector. The danger for non-profit organizations is to lose their soul and their ability to innovate on social issues while developing a commercial way of management

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe purpose of this thesis is to examine media coverage of humanitarian organizations in Lebanon, based on the study of media productions of three organizations between 2009 and 2011. The first part highlights the evolution of humanitarian action, its objectives and its communication strategies. The art of rhetoric, image supremacy and human testimony contribute to the legitimization of the organization. The second part focuses on the means of rendering the association more visible. A thorough analysis of an association’s media productions reveals that the related framing put in place several processes to assert its identity, its mission and its religious and political engagement. The third part deals with different methods of the organizations’ attractions and their resonances within the written media. The study is conducted on the basis of visual, verbal and audio components of these media productions that trigger the mechanism of mirror neurons and identification with the victims. The analysis shows that the act of scenarizing humanitarian activities by the press causes a pathemisation of the public opinion resulting in the adherence to the association and to its political and religious beliefs

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe presence of homeless people in the public space is an ancient social problem that the State has been attempting to solve for a long time. From the 90’s on - and especially after the enactment, in 1998, of the law fighting against social exclusion - government intervention has been embodied in a package of social measures under the umbrella term of “social watch” (“veille sociale”). Its implementation has been mainly entrusted to not-for-profit associations and charities, through delegation of public service programs. Among these measures, the mobile outreach programs describe the action of mobile teams given the mission to connect and engage with homeless people in the streets. The mobile outreach program constitutes the empirical subject of this thesis. The aim is to study this activity by taking into account the plurality of its actors - especially the not-for-profit associations - and the diversity of its contributors, both employees and volunteers as well as professional and non-professional social workers. Based on an ethnographic study led in Paris involving three different charity organizations, it combines participant observation and biographical interviews. The aim is to bring into view and clarify situations of inherent tension in this copresence of collective and individual actors through an analysis of mobile outreach programs as both places of work and social commitment. This analysis more generally enables an understanding of the dynamic boundaries within the field of social urgency, in which there are many persistant ambiguities. Ambiguities abound between social work and volunteering, public actions and private initiatives, between the prominence given to promote professionalism and the acknowledgment of altruistic dedication. The boundaries among these different missions remain vague and uncertain. An interactionist perspective inspired by the sociology of work and employment enables us to raise the issue of the main role played by the public authorities. They regulate the social outreach activity through multiple injunctions, notably with particular emphasis on professionalization and coordination of the mobile outreach program. The three different organizations that are the subject of enquiry take different approaches to those injunctions, whether in a relation of alliance or autonomy. The analysis of work divisions sheds light on the hierarchical division of labour as well as the question of how tasks are delegated. Social support and follow up missions are prioritised to professional outreach workers while responsibility for the less well considered missions such as food runs and distribution are handed over to the volunteer outreach workers. Observation of the different strategies of resistance towards this division reveal a struggle over jurisdiction – volunteer outreach workers equally want to be a part of the support and follow up missions and highlight what is at stake: the control of territory both physical and professional, as well as the mastery of knowledge which is essentially tacit and acquired through experience. By looking closer at volunteer outreach workers and their trajectories through the lens of sociology, the boundary between professional and volunteer can be seen to be an artificial one. First, by showing the overlap and hybridisation between the trajectories of volunteers and professionals: wage-earning outreach workers have a lot of the time practiced volunteering before, while on the other hand, some volunteers use the outreach programs as a way to enter the professional world of social work. Then by underlining the continuity in the way of seeing and practicing the activity that transcends organizations’ affiliations and status to better reveal the influence of different modes of socialization, be it through family, advocacy or work

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe progress of Turkey’s relations with the EU enhanced the visibility of the Turkish Peak Business Organizations (PBOs) in representing Turkish business interests in Brussels. Moreover, the evolution of the activities of the PBOs, provides a broader understanding of the developments of the general characteristics of the relations between the government and business interest groups in Turkey. Hence the investigation focuses on the major Turkish PBOs.
We examine the relations of Turkish PBOs with the EU, essentially, on the basis of the observation of their transnational actions within the EU as well as their participation in financial and technical assistance programmes of the EU and in the joint institutional structures of the association regime between Turkey and the EU. By analysing these two dimensions we assess the repercussions of the socialization of the Turkish PBOs on their strategies of action in dealing with European Affairs, on discourses they adopted regarding domestic policy-making and on their organizational structure and policy agenda.
We elaborate our topic with reference to the Europeanization concept, which covers the examination of the consequences of the European governance on national systems. Through the Europeanization concept we observe the correlation between the progress of the Turkey-EU relations and the ongoing process of change in the patterns of interventions of the Turkish business interest groups in domestic policy-making.

Alexander, Virna Greer. „A capacity building assessment of TB Care Association : a case study“. Thesis, Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/50551.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleENGLISH ABSTRACT: Non-profit organisations play an increasingly important role in our society as they often represent community interests. The ability of the non-profit sector to perform effectively has become more critical. In order to maintain their value and effectiveness they require continuous renewal. The increased demand placed on this sector as it partners with government to deliver basic services to the community has amplified the need for this renewal process. The non-profit sector is constantly required to develop new ways of building its capacity in an attempt to meet its challenges. Despite the emphasis placed on the importance of capacity building, the term itse~ is frequently too expansive to be meaningful to decision makers. This paper attempts to develop a working definition of capacity building and assess the capacity building levels of TB Care Association. TB Care Association, founded in 1929, provides a service to tuberculosis patients and their families. Over the last decade, the organisation has moved from being a welfare organisation to a developmental health promotion organisation. The survey conducted on TB Care Association indicates that the scores obtained by the organisation coincide with the organisation's stage of development according to Korten (Mukasa, 2003). The results further revealed that fund raising, over dependence on government funding, lack of succession planning and human resources strategies are potential issues that could impede organisational growth and development.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe type of innovation mostly adopted by European companies is management innovation. Some authors point out that management innovation provides the most sustainable competitive advantage. However, despite a recent revival of academic interest, management innovation remains much less studied in the literature than technological innovation. In addition, this emerging literature on management innovation has not focused on nonprofit organizations (NPOs). Yet, the nonprofit sector has experienced a strong growth so that it plays now a major economic role. NPOs have adopted management innovations to support this growth. The production processes in NPOs are strongly based on human and intangible inputs that are difficult to substitute for physical capital. Thus, management innovation which is also a process based on human and intangible inputs, appears like a type of innovation appropriate for NPOs. Moreover, the distinction between forprofit and nonprofit organizations has been explicitly presented as a great opportunity for the theoretical development on the innovation process. NPOs represent indeed a specific analytical framework. Therefore, this research aims to understand how a management innovation process is put in place within these particular organizations. The qualitative method of the embedded single case study has been appropriate to address this issue. The NGO “Action Contre la Faim”, which has been involved in a vast process of management innovation since 2008, has been investigated. The analysis and theoretical discussion of our results allowed us to shed the light on the specificities of the management innovation process in NPOs. Indeed, the management innovation process in an NPO is characterized by deliberately long phases and a mixed model that combines a bottom-up and top-down approach. First of all, the NPO takes all the time necessary to collectively create a consensual, weakly formalized and evolving management innovation. Then, the great malleability of management innovation leads to a long and non-linear implementation with a constantly flexible implementation without routinization

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBetween 2012 and 2013, the malian crisis had many dimensions. Beyond the immediacy of the event, this thesis seeks to identify the religious dimension of this crisis, including the impact of these events on the religious sphere in the capital. In Bamako, the Islamic associations are part of a relatively confrontational field polarized between "Sufism" and "Wahhabism". Many agree that these terms have to be deconstructed. This is what I try to do in developing the concept of "regime of orthodoxy". A “regime of orthodoxy”, it is this "tinkering" giving rise to a new religious movement, which eventually register, willy-nilly, in the case of Mali, in this polarity. However, this one is not less performative being renewed during this period. To many observers, the "Wahhabi" sphere has many affinities with jihadist ideologies and requires some vigilance. The "Sufi" sphere, meanwhile, has for international institutions many strengths that earned them the label of "moderate Islam." The "trace of God" is the brand (body, clothing, or discursive one) that allows the observer to identify the membership of such actor to such a trend, and to measure his radicality, or more generally his intention. This is the indicator on which rests the diagnosis that feeds ultimately what we can call a "security Reason"

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe purpose of this thesis is to study how a shared vision can emerge among the members of the entrepreneurial teams managing nonprofit organizations. We first examine the grassroots approach that emphasizes the collective action of volunteers and employees working together in the development of the association. We then consider social entrepreneurship literature focusing on the effective achievement of social goals. We integrate these two visions as two possible forms of entrepreneurship in nonprofit organizations. We identify the entrepreneurial team as a group of individuals working together toward the development of the objectives of the nonprofit organization and their achievement. We analyze how the different members of the team position themselves with regard to these two visions to analyze the risk of divisions, but also the possibility of the emergence of a shared vision. Adopting a socio-psychological approach, we conceptualize the notion of a shared vision in terms of social representations. We integrate the confrontation between these two representations as part of a cycle through which actors adjust their vision to fit reality. We then go on to study and explain how social entrepreneurship practices are introduced and develop within the entrepreneurial team of nonprofit organizations.Based on 48 semi-structured interviews and a full case study, the data collected contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms through which the shared vision emerges and evolves. Our research model highlights the distance between the ideal of the vision and the reality in practice. Between this ideal and the reality, operational and psychological processes are at work. Drawing on Weick (1979), when members of the entrepreneurial team are divided between two visions of their non-profit organization, the “retention” of one or the other is the consequence of managerial “enactment” rather than discussion
