Recently, Zhang et al. proposed a sufficient descent Polak-Ribière-Polyak (SDPRP) conjugate gradient method for large-scale unconstrained optimization problems and proved its global convergence in the sense thatlim infk→∞∥∇f(xk)∥=0when an Armijo-type line search is used. In this paper, motivated by the line searches proposed by Shi et al. and Zhang et al., we propose two new Armijo-type line searches and show that the SDPRP method has strong convergence in the sense thatlimk→∞∥∇f(xk)∥=0under the two new line searches. Numerical results are reported to show the efficiency of the SDPRP with the new Armijo-type line searches in practical computation.

Annotation:

We propose a modified three-term conjugate gradient method with the Armijo line search for solving unconstrained optimization problems. The proposed method possesses the sufficient descent property. Under mild assumptions, the global convergence property of the proposed method with the Armijo line search is proved. Due to simplicity, low storage, and nice convergence properties, the proposed method is used to solve M-tensor systems and a kind of nonsmooth optimization problems with l1-norm. Finally, the given numerical experiments show the efficiency of the proposed method.

Assessing the performance of algorithms in solving building energy optimization (BEO) problems with different properties is essential for selecting appropriate algorithms to achieve the best design solution. This study begins with a classification of the properties of BEO problems from three perspectives, namely, design variables, objective functions, and constraints. An analytical approach and a numerical approach are proposed to determine the properties of BEO problems. Six BEO test problems with different properties, namely, continuous vs. discrete, convex vs. non-convex, linear vs. non-linear, uni-modal vs. multimodal, and single-dimensional vs. multi-dimensional, are composed to evaluate the performance of algorithms. The selected optimization algorithms for performance assessment include the discrete Armijo gradient, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Hooke-Jeeves, and hybrid PSO and Hooke-Jeeves. The assessment results indicate that multimodality can cause Hooke-Jeeves and discrete Armijo gradient algorithms to fall into local optima traps. The convex, non-convex, linear and non-linear properties of uni-modal BEO problems have little impact on the performance behavior of the algorithms. The discrete Armijo gradient and Hooke-Jeeves are not recommended for solving discrete and multi-dimensional BEO problems.

Ces dernières années, l’intelligence artificielle (IA) est confrontée à deux défis majeurs (parmi d’autres), à savoir l’explicabilité et la frugalité, dans un contexte d’intégration de l’IA dans des systèmes critiques ou embarqués et de raréfaction des ressources. Le défi est d’autant plus conséquent que les modèles proposés apparaissent commes des boîtes noires étant donné le nombre faramineux d’hyperparamètres à régler (véritable savoir-faire) pour les faire fonctionner. Parmi ces paramètres, l’optimiseur ainsi que les réglages qui lui sont associés ont un rôle critique dans la bonne mise en oeuvre de ces outils [196]. Dans cette thèse, nous nous focalisons sur l’analyse des algorithmes d’apprentissage/optimiseurs dans le contexte des réseaux de neurones, en identifiant des propriétés mathématiques faisant écho aux deux défis évoqués et nécessaires à la robustesse du processus d’apprentissage. Dans un premier temps, nous identifions des comportements indésirables lors du processus d’apprentissage qui vont à l’encontre d’une IA explicable et frugale. Ces comportements sont alors expliqués au travers de deux outils: la stabilité de Lyapunov et les intégrateurs géométriques. Empiriquement, la stabilisation du processus d’apprentissage améliore les performances, autorisant la construction de modèles plus économes. Théoriquement, le point de vue développé permet d’établir des garanties de convergence pour les optimiseurs classiquement utilisés dans l’entraînement des réseaux. La même démarche est suivie concernant l’optimisation mini-batch où les comportements indésirables sont légions: la notion de splitting équilibré est alors centrale afin d’expliquer et d’améliorer les performances. Cette étude ouvre la voie au développement de nouveaux optimiseurs adaptatifs, issus de la relation profonde entre optimisation robuste et schémas numériques préservant les invariants des systèmes dynamiques Over the last few years, developping an explainable and frugal artificial intelligence (AI) became a fundamental challenge, especially when AI is used in safety-critical systems and demands ever more energy. This issue is even more serious regarding the huge number of hyperparameters to tune to make the models work. Among these parameters, the optimizer as well as its associated tunings appear as the most important leverages to improve these models [196]. This thesis focuses on the analysis of learning process/optimizer for neural networks, by identifying mathematical properties closely related to these two challenges. First, undesirable behaviors preventing the design of explainable and frugal networks are identified. Then, these behaviors are explained using two tools: Lyapunov stability and geometrical integrators. Through numerical experiments, the learning process stabilization improves the overall performances and allows the design of shallow networks. Theoretically, the suggested point of view enables to derive convergence guarantees for classical Deep Learning optimizers. The same approach is valuable for mini-batch optimization where unwelcome phenomenons proliferate: the concept of balanced splitting scheme becomes essential to enhance the learning process understanding and improve its robustness. This study paves the way to the design of new adaptive optimizers, by exploiting the deep relation between robust optimization and invariant preserving scheme for dynamical systems

On presente une nouvelle methode qui permet de trouver l'orientation et la forme du tenseur des contraintes ainsi que les mecanismes au foyer pour une population de seismes. Cette methode utilise comme donnees les polarites des premieres arrivees. Elle realise une synthese entre les methodes de brillinger et al. (1980) pour determiner des mecanismes au foyer et celle d'armijo et cisternas (1982) pour calculer le tenseur de contraintes en microtectonique. Le probleme complet est traite comme un probleme inverse. La methode distingue le plan de faille du plan auxiliaire et donne la direction de glissement pour chaque evenement. Plusieurs exemples sont presentes: exemples synthetiques, les repliques du seisme d'araudy (1980), les repliques du seisme de perugia (1984), le nid de bucaramanga. Dans la deuxieme partie sont traitees des donnees provenant d'une campagne de terrain autour du nid de bucaramanga (colombie). „Armijos krajovos“ (AK) Vilniaus apygarda buvo pavaldi Lenkijos emigracinei vyriausybei Londone ir AK vyr. štabui Varšuvoje. Jos tikslas buvo atkurti Lenkiją 1939 m. ribose. AK naudojo partizaninio karo taktiką: rengė diversijas, sabotažus, vykdė dezinformaciją ir okupantų įstaigų dezorganizaciją. Šiame darbe pristatoma AK Vilniaus apygardos struktūra ir veikla. Darbo tikslas yra naudojantis archyvine medžiaga pristatyti ir ištirti AK santykius su lietuviais, sovietais ir vokiečiais. Vilniaus krašto specifiškumas nacistinės okupacijos metais buvo toks, kad lietuviai, sovietai ir lenkai laikė jį savo valstybių dalimi. Todėl tautinių santykių atskleidimas yra labai svarbus. AK suprato santykių tarp įvairių tautybių svarbą ir pasitelkusi propagandą bandė patraukti gyventojus į savo pusę. Santykiai tarp lenkų ir vokiečių klostėsi sunkiai. Lenkų karinio pogrindžio judėjimo dalyviai buvo kalinami, sušaudomi. 1944 m. pr. Vokiečiai bandė patraukti AK Vilniaus apygardos vadovybę į savo pusę bendrai kovai su sovietų partizanais, tačiau AK atsisakė bendradarbiavimo. Sudėtingesni santykiai buvo tarp lietuvių ir AK. Lietuviai nacistinės Vokietijos nelaikė tokiu svarbiu priešu kaip Sovietų Sąjungos ir daug lietuvių dirbo vokiečių administracijos įstaigose Lietuvoje bei policijoje. AK juos laikė kolaborantais ir okupantais, todėl su jais kovojo. Didžiausia tarpusavio konflikto apraiška įvyko Glintiškėse ir Dubingiuose. Glintiškėse lietuvių policininkai sušaudė 38 civilius lenkų tautybės... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] Armia Krajowa’s (AK) Vilnius area was subordinated to Polish Government in exile in London and to AK Armed Forces Staff in Warsaw. It’s main aim was to recover Poland in borders of 1939. AK used a tactic of partisan war: organizing diversions, sabotages, dis- information and organisation of work in occupant’s institutions. This work presents structure and it’s objects of AK’s Vilnius area, with the help of archive resources to present and make out problem of relations between AK and Lithuanians, Soviets and Germans. Vilnius area’s specific situation was that during the Nazi occupation Lithuanians, Soviets as well as Poles considered this region as part of their states. That is why national problems on this territory were very important. AK realized that and with a help of it’s propaganda apparatus tried to attract local national minorities to AK side. Polish and German relations were hard. Members of polish armed resistance movement had been imprisoned, others were killed. In early 1944 German side tried to involve AK to common war with soviet partisans, but AK refused. More complicated relations were between Lithuanians and AK. Lithuanians didn’t consider Nazi Germany as bad as Soviet Union, and a lot of them were working in German institutions, especially in police. Šio darbo tikslas buvo ištirti ir įvertinti Lietuvos juodmargių galvijų melžimo savybes, išanalizuoti produktyvumo priklausomybę nuo melžimo savybių. Įvertinus skirtingų tešmens ketvirčių produktyvumą, nustatyta, kad 0,53 kg daugiau pieno primelžta iš užpakalinių ketvirčių nei iš priekinių. Melžimo trukmė iš skirtingų ketvirčių buvo nuo 4,81 min.(priekinis kairys) iki 5,18 min (užpakalinis kairys).Priekiniai ketvirčiai vidutiniškai 0,35 min. išsimelžė greičiau nei užpakaliniai ketvirčiai. Melžimo greitis skirtinguose ketvirčiuose buvo panašus. Melžimo greitis 0,03 kg/min. Didesnis buvo užpakalinių ketvirčių lyginant su priekiniais. Išnagrinėjus skirtingų laktacijos karvių melžimo savybes, nustatyta, kad ilgiausia melžimo trukmė buvo III ir vyresnių laktacijos karvių. Ji buvo 0,09 min. ilgesnė nei visų laktacijos karvių. Mažiausia melžimo trukmė buvo II laktacijos karvių. Ji buvo 0,11 min trumpesnė nei vidutinė visų laktacijos karvių. 0,07 kg/min didesnis melžimo greitis nustatytas II laktacijos karvių lyginant su visų laktacijų karvių vidurkiu. I bei III ir vyresnių laktacijos karvių melžimo greitis 0,02 kg/min mažesnis lyginant su visų laktacijos karvių melžimo greičio vidurkiu. Suskirsčius karves pagal melžimo balus nustatyta, kad didesnis pieno kiekis gautas iš tų karvių kurių melžimo balai aukščiausi. Daugiausia pieno primelžta iš tų karvių, kurių melžimo balas 4. [toliau žr. visą tekstą] Aim of work: was to examine and assess the milking qualities of Lithuanian black and white diary cattle, also to analyze the dependence of productivity upon milking qualities. The work was performed in Lithuanian Academy of Veterinary, during Master studies 2006-2008. During the analysis, data of controlled cows’ productivity was analyzed according to accounting information of cattle breeding. Data was statistically analyzed using calculator EXCEL and “R” statistic package. Arithmetical average of features (M), their biases (Se) and characteristics of dispersion – average square deviations (Sd) and variation coefficients (Cv) were calculated. During the analysis we evaluated 28 Lithuanian black and white cows. The Results of Survey: Taking into account the different productivity of each quarter of the udder, it was measured, that from the back parts of udder was milked 0.53 kg more milk than from the front parts. The milking time from different quarters was from 4.81 minutes (front left) to 5.18 minutes (back left). Front quarters were milked 0.35 minutes faster than the back ones. The milking speed in different quarters was almost the same 0.03 kg/min. The speed was higher in the back quarters in comparison with the front ones. Il presente lavoro si propone di analizzare il calcestruzzo armato come materiale da costruzione, in particolare focalizzando l’attenzione sulle tecniche di prevenzione di alcuni tipi di degrado con l’utilizzo di trattamenti superficiali. Il calcestruzzo è uno dei materiali da costruzione più utilizzati in quanto presenta molteplici vantaggi come la libertà di forma, il basso costo dei materiali ed il buon comportamento strutturale. Nonostante quanto detto, si possono evidenziare delle criticità inerenti all’utilizzo di questo materiale, il tema centrale di questo lavoro è quello di analizzare nuove tecniche di protezione atte a salvaguardare la struttura da tre diverse tipologie di degrado, valutandone l’effettiva efficacia nell’ottenere quello per cui sono state previste. Nei primi capitoli si esaminerà il calcestruzzo come materiale da costruzione e saranno spiegati i processi che il conglomerato cementizio deve compiere per diventare un materiale indurito e resistente. Nel terzo capitolo si affronteranno, senza entrare nella descrizione puntuale di ciascuna di esse, le diverse cause di degrado del calcestruzzo armato. Infine nel quarto ed ultimo capitolo, verranno esposti tre casi studio: il primo tratta di un tipo di degrado spesso non preso in considerazione ma causante ingenti danni all’aspetto paesaggistico e al patrimonio storico: si analizzano i rivestimenti da poter applicare al calcestruzzo per rendere più semplificato il processo di rimozione dai graffiti. Il secondo si ripromette di analizzare l’efficacia nel proteggere le armature di acciaio dalla corrosione per mezzo un nuovo tipo di pigmenti core-shell poco costosi ma soprattutto ecosostenibili. Infine si porrà lo sguardo su un problema non indifferente ovvero quello della protezione del calcestruzzo armato dalle alte temperature anche in questo caso utilizzando un trattamento superficiale volto a migliorare le performance del calcestruzzo durante l’incendio.

Neste trabalho são apresentados procedimentos para o dimensionamento de elementos de chapa de concreto armado com armaduras em malha ortogonal, com as direções não coincidentes com as das tensões principais. É feita uma revisão dos conceitos teóricos do Método de Baumann e do Modified Compression Field Theory, sendo que no primeiro foi incorporada a relação tensão-deformação do concreto fissurado proposta por Vecchio e Collins. Para a análise das deformações principais é feita uma revisão do estado duplo de deformações utilizando-se o círculo de Mohr. Posteriormente são feitas comparações entre os resultados de modelo físicos e as formulações analíticas, bem como entre os resultados de modelos hipotéticos utilizando ambos os métodos, com o objetivo de valorizar o Método de Baumann dada a sua simplicidade, mostrando que este apresenta resultados a favor da segurança. Buscou-se através do Método de Baumann avaliar os benefícios da utilização de armaduras de compressão. Procedures are presented for the reinforced concrete membranes design with orthogonal mesh, which does not coincide with principal stress directions. A review of the theoretical fundamentals for Baumann Method and Modified Compression Field Theory is presented, and in the first was used the stress-strain relationships for the cracked concrete developed by Vecchio and Collins. A review of the plane strain is presented using the Mohr Circle for the principal strains analysis. Later, the results of tested panels and the theoretical formulations are compared, also between hypothetical panels using both methods, to enhance the Baumann Method due its simplicity, ensuring that presents overestimated results. Benefits were evaluated through Baumann Method using compression reinforcement.

Tamb?m estuda a estrutura po?tica da obra do autor, bem como os quadros dos pintores. Trevisan ? um poeta ainda pouco estudado no universo acad?mico. Tem recebido da cr?tica e da m?dia crescente reconhecimento, tanto como poeta quanto como ensa?sta de arte. Embora o trabalho tenha como recorte somente os poemas pict?ricos, analisou-se quase toda a sua obra po?tica, constitu?da de quinze livros, a contar da estr?ia, com A surpresa de ser (1967), at? Os sonhos nas m?os (2004). Procurou-se comprovar que os poemas pict?ricos de Trevisan n?o s?o meras descri??es de quadros, mas deslocam o olhar do observador para um espa?o determinado, possibilitando releitura diferenciada que, por sua vez, leva a outras, criando instantes de surpresa que fazem com que o observador retorne aos poemas num movimento circular. Em n?vel metodol?gico, utilizaram-se conceitos de Bachelard, ensaios do livro Intertextualidade (1979) e Espa?o e textualidade: quatro estudos quase-semi?ticos de Pino (1998). Fazem parte do m?todo de an?lise as considera??es sobre a poesia e suas possibilidades de leitura, conforme o poeta ingl?s W. H. It also deals with the poetical structure of the author’s work, as well as the pictures of the painters. Although Trevisan has been widely recognized by media and critics both as poet and art essayist, he is not object of study of scholars yet. Albeit this work uses only pictorial poems as examples, we have analyzed almost all of his poems, which are found in fifteen different books, from his first appearance in A surpresa de ser (1967) to Os sonhos nas mãos (2004). It was intended to demonstrate that Trevisan’s pictorial poems are not mere descriptions of pictures, but indeed they focus the readers attention on a specific space, allowing a differentiated reading, which in its turn allows others, creating instants of surprise that make the reader to turn back to the poems in a circular motion. For methodological aspects Bachelar’s concepts were used, as well as essays of the following books: Intertextualidades (1979) and Espaço e textualidade: quatro estudos quase-semióticos de Pino (1998). It also makes part of the analyzing method considerations on poetry and its possibilities of reading, according to the English poet W. H. Auden in A mão do artista (1993) and Obra poética (1995) from Fernando Pessoa and Reflexões sobre poesia (1993) and A poesia: uma iniciação à leitura poética (2000) from Trevisan. Esta dissertação tem por objetivo analisar a relação entre o espaço poético e o pictórico como produtores de sentidos nos poemas intertextuais de Armindo Trevisan. Também estuda a estrutura poética da obra do autor, bem como os quadros dos pintores. Trevisan é um poeta ainda pouco estudado no universo acadêmico. Tem recebido da crítica e da mídia crescente reconhecimento, tanto como poeta quanto como ensaísta de arte. Embora o trabalho tenha como recorte somente os poemas pictóricos, analisou-se quase toda a sua obra poética, constituída de quinze livros, a contar da estréia, com A surpresa de ser (1967), até Os sonhos nas mãos (2004). Procurou-se comprovar que os poemas pictóricos de Trevisan não são meras descrições de quadros, mas deslocam o olhar do observador para um espaço determinado, possibilitando releitura diferenciada que, por sua vez, leva a outras, criando instantes de surpresa que fazem com que o observador retorne aos poemas num movimento circular. Em nível metodológico, utilizaram-se conceitos de Bachelard, ensaios do livro Intertextualidade (1979) e Espaço e textualidade: quatro estudos quase-semióticos de Pino (1998). Fazem parte do método de análise as considerações sobre a poesia e suas possibilidades de leitura, conforme o poeta inglês W. H. Como aplicação, serão otimizadas as seções transversais da viga principal de uma ponte rodoviária, considerando apenas o momento fletor. A otimização deve buscar o menor custo, considerando as dimensões das peças, disposições construtivas, resistência dos materiais e esforços solicitantes. Além de respeitar as restrições impostas por normas, processos de fabricação, transporte e montagem. Foram desenvolvidos algoritmos para dimensionamento de seções transversais em concreto armado de geometria retangular, circular e seção "T", com carregamento axial e flexão em torno de um eixo. Também foram desenvolvidos códigos computacionais para geração das linhas de influência e envoltória de esforços para uma viga principal de pontes rodoviárias com a superestrutura em viga contínua. As linhas de influência são obtidas através de uma seqüência de soluções e pós-processamento da estrutura com carregamento unitário, utilizando elementos finitos com elementos de viga 2D. Para otimizar as seções, adotou-se o Método da Penalidade Exterior pela facilidade de implementação em problemas não lineares, como é o caso de uma seção de concreto armado. The aim of this dissertation is the optimization of the cross section in reinforced concrete beams employing mathematical programming algorithms. As an application, one will optimize the cross section of the main beam of a bridge, considering bending moment only. The optimization process aims at finding the smallest material cost, by considering the structures dimension, layout, strength of the materials and the applied loads. Besides, it must be in accordance with the design norms, fabrication process, transportation limitations and building procedures. Algorithms for dimensionality of cross section of reinforced concrete to rectangular, circle and "T" section, with axial and bending loading, were developed. Also, was implemented, computational code for influence lines and involved generation of loading for a main beam of a bridge with the superstructure in continuous beam. The influence lines are obtained through of sequential solutions and pos-processing of structure under unit loading, employing finite elements with 2D element beam. To optimization of sections, Method of External Penalty was employing by facilities of implement for nonlinear problems, like is the case of cross section of reinforced concrete.

O déficit habitacional brasileiro, em 2019, era de aproximadamente 6 milhões de moradias. Em uma tentativa de diminuir este indicador o poder público implementou diferente inciativas habitacionais. Este trabalho tem por objetivo avaliar o isolamento acústico frente ao ruído aéreo de paredes de geminação em três edificações térreas que possuem o mesmo projeto arquitetônico, mas divergem quanto ao sistema construtivo, sendo: a) vedações verticais em concreto armado; alvenaria estrutural de blocos cerâmicos; c) parede dupla em alvenaria de vedação de blocos cerâmicos. Adicionalmente, medições acústicas foram realizadas em dois edifícios multifamiliares com alvenarias de vedação de blocos cerâmicos para identificar a eficiência desse sistema construtivo. Todas as medições acústicas foram realizadas conforme as normas ABNT NBR ISO 16283-1:2018 e ABNT NBR ISO 3382-2:2017. Apenas as geminações em concreto armado e em parede dupla de alvenaria de blocos cerâmicos atenderam aos requisitos da norma de desempenho de edificações, ABNT NBR 15575:2021, indicando que a devem ser evitados elementos de separação compostos de alvenaria de blocos cerâmicos em folhas simples.

Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a complex and multifactorial disorder commonly associated with other conditions such as cervical spine disorders (ARMIJO-OLIVO et al., 2010). Although there is evidence of a correlation between TMD and neck disorders, treatment proposals include a local and direct approach. Since the etiology of TMD is multidimensional (MIETTINEN et al., 2017), the present study hypothesizes that a cervical and thoracic approach could reduce the signs and symptoms of TMD. Therefore, the objective of the present study is to evaluate the effects of a manual therapy protocol applied on the cervical and thoracic region on the signs and symptoms of TMD.

This work presents an approach to solve stochastic optimal control problems in the application of flow quality management in reservoir systems. These applications are challenging because they require real-time decision-making in the presence of uncertainties such as wind velocity. These uncertainties must be accounted for as stochastic variables in the mathematical model. In addition, computational costs and storage requirements increase rapidly due to the stochastic nature of the simulations and optimisation formulations. To overcome these challenges, an approach is developed that uses the combination of a reduced-order model and an adjoint-based method to compute the optimal solution rapidly. The system is modelled by a system of stochastic partial differential equations. The finite element method together with collocation in the stochastic space provide an approximate numerical solution—the “full model”, which cannot be solved in real-time. The proper orthogonal decomposition and Galerkin projection technique are applied to obtain a reduced-order model that approximates the full model. The conjugate-gradient method with Armijo line-search is then employed to find the solution of the optimal control problem under the uncertainty of input parameters. Numerical results show that the stochastic control yields solutions that are above the bound of the set solutions of the deterministic control. Applying the reduced model to the stochastic optimal control problem yields a speed-up in computational time by a factor of about 80 with acceptable accuracy in comparison with the full model. Application of the optimal control strategy shows the potential effectiveness of this computational modeling approach for managing flow quality.
