This thesis considers the geographical and chronological forms of ‘mirroring’ that offer a way of reading 'Annals' 1-6. It looks at how Tacitus’ depictions of non-Romans reflect back on Rome, and at the echoes of Rome’s past and future that can be discerned within his description of Tiberius’ principate. After an introduction that discusses key thematic and methodological questions, Chapter 1 shows that Tiberius’ accession and the Pannonian and German mutinies described in 'Annals' 1 echo Tacitus’ account in 'Histories' 1 of events of AD 69. Moreover, when the Romans attempt to conquer Germany, the Germans’ resistance to this and to other efforts to rule them shows up Roman responses to civil war and autocracy. Chapter 2 begins by examining potential similarities between Roman and both Parthian and Armenian history, and then focuses on Germanicus’ voyage in the east, recounted in 'Annals' 2. His actions associate him with many late republican and early imperial Roman figures, which suggests that there are continuities between those two eras. Chapter 3 extends this theme by discussing the echoes of Sallust and Caesar in the central books of the Tiberian hexad. Intertexts with Sallust’s 'Bellum Catilinae' especially hint that earlier civil conflicts are about to be replayed in some form, as the appearance of Sejanus, the ‘new Catiline’, confirms. Chapter 4 further considers Tacitus’ inferences about the overlap between republican and imperial history, and then examines anti-Roman revolts in 'Annals' 2, 3 and 4. Foreign rebels’ relative success in attempting to reclaim their freedom correlates with their distance from Rome, and this has clear implications for the status of Roman 'libertas' under Tiberius. Finally, the outbreak of ‘civil war within the principate’, and indeed within the imperial house, is analysed. Chapter 5 traces the continuation of this ‘civil war’, and proposes that the last book of the Tiberian hexad again looks directly to 69, as well as to the excesses of other Julio-Claudians. It also considers Tacitus’ account of Roman intervention in Parthia: this episode confirms imperial Rome’s propensity for autocracy and civil war. There follows a short conclusion in which some speculation is offered about how some of the themes discussed in this thesis with reference to the Tiberian hexad may have been represented in the lost central books of the 'Annals'.

SkiClicker är en produkt som används inom skiduthyrningar, skidverkstäder och skidbutiker. Verktyget används istället för skidpjäxan för att ställa in skidbindningens storlek. Genom att använda denna produkt kan uthyrningsprocessen bli mer tidseffektiv med anledning av att kunden inte behöver ta av sig en framprovad pjäxa. I och med att skiduthyrningar är en stressig miljö där kunderna är klädda för att vistas utomhus, bidrar SkiClicker till att förbättra denna upplevelse betydligt.  Dock fanns det ingen lösning för att hänga upp verktyget någonstans eller bära med sig det, vilket gör att verktyget måste ligga på bordet.  No More Boots ville därför ta fram ett koncept på ett hölster, för att se hur ett sådant skulle kunna se ut och fungera.   I denna rapport ingår hur produktvecklingsprocessen gått till. Produktutvecklingsprocessen delades i fem olika faser; förstudie, produktspecificering, konceptgenerering, val och detaljkonstruktion. Dessa olika faser ledde fram till resultatet i detta projekt. Resultatet av produktutvecklingsprocessen genererade ett koncept som uppnådde alla kraven och en stor del av önskemålen som sattes upp. Konceptet som togs fram var ett relativt öppet hölster som höll SkiClicker på plats. Hölstret kunde fästas på kroppen med en bälteskrok som även kunde fästas rakt i byxan. På bakkappan av hölstret kunde en penn- och skruvmejselhållare fästas. Till detta kunde även en grund för ett kommande materialval tas fram. Detta kunde till sist resultera i en slutprototyp som fungerade som den slutgiltiga produkten skulle göra och möjliggjorde att No More Boots kunde testa produkten.
SkiClicker is a product used in ski rentals, ski workshops and ski shops. SkiClicker is used instead of a ski boot to set in ski bindings size. By using this product the rental process can become much more time efficient due to that an extra take off and putting on of the ski boot is removed. Since ski rentals are a stressful environment where you wear a lot of clothes indoors, SkiClicker contributes to that the ski rental experience being a lot better. However, there was no solution for hanging the tool anywhere or carrying it with you, which meant that the tool had to lie on the table. No More Boots therefore wanted to develop a concept on a holster, to see how a holster could look like and how it would work. This report includes how the product development process went. The product development process was divided into 5 phases; feasibility study, product specification, concept generation, selection and detailed design. These different phases led to the result in this project. The result of the product development process generated a concept that met all the requirements and a large part of the wishes that were set up. The concept that was developed was an open holster that held the SkiClicker in a good way. This could be attached to the body with a belt clip that also could be attached directly to the pants. A pen and screwdriver hold was applied to the back cover of the holster. In addition, a basis for a future choice of material was also developed. This finally result in a final prototype that worked as the final product would do and made it possible for No More Boots to test the product.

Denna studie är en subjektiv bildanalys av barnböcker där syftet med studien är att undersöka hur genusaspekter kommer till uttryck i barnböckerna med fokuset på ett teknikinnehåll. I studien har jag valt ut några bilder i fyra Alfons Åberg- böcker samt en bild i en nyare bok - Hej Ruby, med fokus på digitalteknik. Bilderna har sedan analyserats utifrån Falks analysramverk där bilderna delas upp i fyra kategorier - denotativ nivå, inre kontext, yttre kontext och konnotativ nivå.  Studien har kommit fram till att tekniken den utvalda litteraturen följer vissa traditionella könsmönster. Exempelvis att tekniken i köket som oftast kopplas ihop med kvinnor blir bortglömd. Den syns inte lika väl som den typiskt manliga tekniken, som bygg och konstruktion, där tekniken är tydlig och kan ses som ett projekt. Studien lyfter även olika reflektioner kring valet av barnlitteratur samt vikten av boksamtal.
This study is a subjective image analysis of children books where the purpose of the study was to investigate how gender aspects are expressed in children books with the focus on content regarding technology. The study is aimed at educators who are active in preschool activities. The study is based on four Alfons Åberg-books and a newer book focusing on digital technology called Hej Ruby. The images have been analyzed based on Falk's analysis framework where the images are divided into four categories - denotative level, internal context, external context and connotative level. The study has found that the technology in children's books follows certain traditional gender patterns. For example, the technology in the kitchen, most often associated with women is forgotten, it does not show as well as the typical male technology, as construction where technology often appears as a project created by the man.

Audiobook reading has traditionally been used for educational purposes but has in recent times grown into a popular alternative to the more traditional means of consuming literature. In order to differentiate themselves from other players in the market, but also provide their users enjoyable literature, several audiobook companies have lately directed their efforts on producing own content. Creating highly rated content is, however, no easy task and one reoccurring challenge is how to make a bestselling story. In an attempt to identify latent features shared by successful audiobooks and evaluate proposed methods for literary quantification, this thesis employs an array of frameworks from the field of Statistics, Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing on data and literature provided by Storytel - Sweden’s largest audiobook company. We analyze and identify important features from a collection of 3077 Swedish books concerning their promotional and literary success. By considering features from the aspects Metadata, Theme, Plot, Style and Readability, we found that popular books are typically published as a book series, cover 1-3 central topics, write about, e.g., daughter-mother relationships and human closeness but that they also hold, on average, a higher proportion of verbs and a lower degree of short words. Despite successfully identifying these, but also other factors, we recognized that none of our models predicted “bestseller” adequately and that future work may desire to study additional factors, employ other models or even use different metrics to define and measure popularity. From our evaluation of the literary quantification methods, namely topic modeling and narrative approximation, we found that these methods are, in general, suitable for Swedish texts but that they require further improvement and experimentation to be successfully deployed for Swedish literature. For topic modeling, we recognized that the sole use of nouns provided more interpretable topics and that the inclusion of character names tended to pollute the topics. We also identified and discussed the possible problem of word inflections when modeling topics for more morphologically complex languages, and that additional preprocessing treatments such as word lemmatization or post-training text normalization may improve the quality and interpretability of topics. For the narrative approximation, we discovered that the method currently suffers from three shortcomings: (1) unreliable sentence segmentation, (2) unsatisfactory dictionary-based sentiment analysis and (3) the possible loss of sentiment information induced by translations. Despite only examining a handful of literary work, we further found that books written initially in Swedish had narratives that were more cross-language consistent compared to books written in English and then translated to Swedish.

The purpose of this study is to explore the affective capacity of the Tabi boots by examining the object through the ideas of deconstruction. The boots by Maison Martin Margiela were first introduced in 1989 and sold in different variations over the course of the past 30 years. Although there have been several attempts to acknowledge the importance of the body in fashion studies, scholars have not focused on the literal experience of wearing a garment, examined through the touch. Thus, this study begins with a close object study of a pair of Tabi boots and draws on phenomenology to capture the feeling of being dressed. The emphasis is laid upon exploring how the ideas of deconstruction are embedded in the Tabi boots while staying open to other theoretical inquiries. Striving to test the affective potential of the boots, deduced in the first chapter, the second part of this thesis moves from the perception of the ‘I’ to other wearers of the Tabi boots. In conducting qualitative semi-structured interviews, the aim is to understand how the characteristics of the boots may affect the wearer and how this affective capacity may lead to a becoming, as defined by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari. Guided by ‘applied theory’, this thesis allowed material, theory, and methods to continuously interact and affect each other.

The starting point of this study is language and narration. The aim is to examine how educators reason by the choice of literature to work with in preschool. In my study I have examined how educators reason for the selection of books for preschool, which factors in the book affects the choice and the children’s influence. The empirical material is based on two focus groups. The participating educators in the examination discussed the subject together. By using three chosen books the educators in my study have reasoned around how the choice of books is done in preschool, what in the book is meaningful by the choice and the influence of the children. The result of the study shows that the educators reason towards a thematic aim by choice of books to work with in preschool. It also shows that the pictures are a central part for the children’s understanding of the book and also that the library is of great importance for the selection of litterateur for preschool.
Utgångspunkten för denna studie är temat språk och berättande. Syftet är att undersöka hur pedagoger resonerar vid val av litteratur att jobba med i förskolan. I min studie har jag undersökt hur pedagoger resonerar vid urval av böcker till förskolan, vilka faktorer i boken som påverkar valet och vilken påverkan barnen har. Det empiriska materialet bygger på två fokusgrupper. Pedagogerna som deltog i undersökningen diskuterade ämnet med varandra. Med hjälp av tre utvalda böcker har pedagogerna i min studie resonerat kring hur urval av böcker sker i förskolan, vad i boken är betydelsefullt vid valet samt barnens påverkan. Resultatet av studien visar att pedagogerna resonerar mot ett tematiskt mål vid val av böcker att arbeta med i förskolan. Det visar också att bilderna är en central del för barnens förståelse av boken samt att biblioteket har en stor betydelse för förskolans urval av litteratur.

La tesi di dottorato si concentra sull'editoria teatrale milanese del Settecento. Tenuto conto della mancanza di un catalogo delle edizioni teatrali stampate a Milano nel Settecento, il dott. Locatelli ha provveduto ad effettuare uno spoglio complessivo del patrimonio librario delle principali biblioteche milanesi al fine di realizzare uno strumento di ricerca basilare. La mancanza altresì di un lavoro di insieme sugli stampatori e librai milanesi del XVIII secolo ha reso inoltre indispensabile l'effettuazione di ricerche mirate alla realizzazione di un dizionario bio-bibliografico degli stampatori e librai attivi a Milano nel Settecento. I risultati della ricerca vengono dunque anzitutto presentati nella forma degli annali tipografici, così da render conto dell'attività in ambito teatrale di ogni singola azienda tipografica milanese. La prima parte della tesi, oltre a offrire un contributo sul valore documentario del teatro in forma di libro, offre un panorama della produzione del libro di teatro nel Settecento. Per quanto concerne Milano, in particolare, si scavano alcune problematiche (come quelle dell'autore drammatico), si portano alcune esemplificazioni, si giustificano alcune delle attribuzioni fornite negli annali. The study is a qualitative literature analysis with the purpose of examining how children and preschool pedagogues were portrayed in picture books that take place in the preschool environment, based on gender perspectives. To define the material, books that take place in the preschool environment had been selected. The purpose of the study was also to examine how relationships between children and preschool pedagogues were portrayed, from a gender perspective. And whether there was a difference between the gender portrayals depending on the year when the book was published. The picture book analysis has created an understanding of how preschool pedagogues can work gender pedagogically with literature as a tool, together with the children. The analysis and the results have shown that there are variations in how gender and gender roles were portrayed in the picture books. It also showed that there are picture books that are gender conscious and that some maintain and enhance gender roles.

The purpose of this paper is to examine how gender and equality is represented in children's books and how educators from a didactic perspective can work with children's literature as part of their work with value-based issues. The books used for this paper is Alfons och Milla (1985) written by Gunilla Bergström and Kalle med klänning (2008) written by Anette Skåhlberg. These books were written during different decades and both the gender and ecuality aspect is presented differently. This might be explained by the values and what was normal during the times that they were written. Kalle med klänning (2008) is challenging the normal thoughts about gender. The book Alfons och Milla (1985) presents that boys and girls are different in the sense that they do and act differently. After analyzing both these books the conclusion is that Kalle med klänning (2008) is more suitable from a didactical perspective although Alfons och Milla (1985) can also be used in a didactic purpose. Both books gives us a good ground to discuss what is typically male and what is typically female although they illustrate gender differently. Methods to enlight these questions may be to read out loud and/or have a discussion about the books to get a deeper understanding regarding gender, equality and common principles.
Arbetets syfte är att undersöka hur aspekten genus och jämställdhet ter sig i bilderböcker och hur pedagoger ur ett didaktiskt perspektiv kan arbeta med barnlitteratur i arbetet med värdegrundsfrågor. De böcker som har utgjort grunden för denna litteraturanalys heter Alfons och Milla (1985), av Gunilla Bergström samt Kalle med klänning (2008), av Anette Skåhlberg. Böckerna är skriva under olika årtionden och genus och jämställdhetsaspekten synliggörs på olika sätt i de båda böckerna. Vilket kan ha sin förklaring i vilka värden och normer som präglade samhället förtillfället då böckerna skrevs. I Kalle med klänning (2008) är det tydligt vad författaren vill förmedla då det är en modern saga som bryter normer vilket vi både kan se och läsa i boken. I Alfons och Milla (1985) framställs det att det är skillnad mellan pojkar respektive flickor och det finns beteende som förknippas med respektive kön. Båda böckerna kan användas i arbetet med värdegrunden då aspekten genus och jämställdhet präglar böckerna dock framställs det på olika sätt. Metoderna högläsning och boksamtal är två metoder som lämpar sig i arbetet. Dock så har inte detta prövats i praktiken utan endast i teorin.

Jag har studerat transmedia, dess innebörd och vad som utmärker den. Fokuserat på den delen som heter World Building Story och tagit fram några exempel på World Building Franchises. Genom att undersöka olika transmedia franchises och hur deras värld är uppbyggt. Med denna kunskap har jag skapat en egen värld i en World Building Story. Den är baserad från konstnären Simon Stålenhags retrofuturistiskt konst. Världen ska visas i en form av Comic Book och vara designad av Critical Design där läsaren får möjligheten att tolka budskapet. Det som jag har kommit fram till i undersökningen är hur man skapar en berättelse.
I have study transmedia and see what transmedia does. I have focus on element in transmedia call World Building story. What is warbling story is something I have studied and watch some World Building franchise say how they are different from each other. Three different World Building a franchise to see  how to build our world. With it knowledge I will create my Own World Building Story. The world the i certion  is inspired by Simon Stålhagen Retrofuturistisk art. The way I show this world with Comic Book. My Comic Book is design from Critical Design that are a small police messages. Me study is to show that transmedia be found over the world and get young people to be in the same be interested in Retrofuturistiskt art. Also is a good way to me to learn how to tell a story and create a world with this studying.

Background  In a world where the development of technology is fast and is continually creating new challenges for human health, there is a need to find an uncomplicated method to educate people to prevent different diseases and increase the level of physical activity. In Sweden, there is a book (Saga Sagor FKFK) that children receive during their 5-year health control visit in order to improve physical activity level. There is a long history of using books for educational purposes and has been shown to increase knowledge.  Aim  To describe the creation and implementation process in the case of Saga Sagor FKFK and to identify potential improvements for future similar projects. To describe how the book was experienced by child healthcare nurses and adoption of the book.  Methods This is a descriptive study, which includes two semi-structured interviews and 574 answers from a survey of nurses working within child health care.  Results The implementation of the book is divided into 11 steps that describes process of implementation. Nurses confirmed that they would need extra material and training about healthy lifestyles in order to improve the quality of child health care visits.  The results indicate that 99% of nurses have a positive experience in working with the book and are using it during the 5-year health care visits.  Conclusions In conclusion, Saga Sagor FKFK is a popular tool among nurses and facilitates their work during child health care visits. Thus, more material is needed in order to make the work with the book easier.

This thesis undertakes to explore silence as it functions in relation to intimacy in Clarice Lispector’s last narrative. It asks how silence, when perceived as a generative force, may cultivate intimacy between men and women, opening up a horizon of equality and exchange between the sexes. Using Lispector’s work as a symbolic location for asking larger questions about the role of Eros in contemporary literature, the first chapter is dedicated to introducing her work as it relates to the critical canon. After examining silence and intimacy as each have been conceptualized by thinkers from various philosophical traditions, I incorporate the recent work of Luce Irigaray, which has integrated Western discourse and Eastern mystical concepts of the intimate to articulate a new kind of male/female reciprocity. I apply Irigarayan theory to Lispector’s text as a way of enriching the academic scholarship regarding Lispector.

The purpose of this thesis is about children librarians work with reading promotion activities. In this study five children librarians were interviewed. All the children librarians were interviewed through Microsoft team, Skype and Zoom due to the pandemic situation. An interview up to 15 questions were questioned during the interviews with the children librarians. The main research questions for this study is to answer what methods do children's librarians use regarding reading promotion activities? How do children's librarians plan, document and follow up reading promotion activities? How do children's librarians handle challenges that occur in the work to promote reading? In this thesis previous research shows that different methods of promoting reading activities affects small children’s desire to read positively. But there can also be bad consequences during reading activities if children don’t desire to read or have difficulties with speech learning which may affect children’s speech development negatively.

This thesis has explored how to create a board game rulebook, for the board game Curators, in order to facilitate learning the rules as well as reminding players of the rules. This was done via research through design. The design of a rulebook incorporates many parts of design theory, from layout and typography to the use of color, gestalt principles, and images. All these were combined with knowledge about how existing rulebooks convey rules and the way board gamers use rulebooks, gained through the pre-study, in order to create a rulebook for the coming board game Curators. The analysis of this study shows that the resulting rulebook was successful in both teaching the game and helping players look up rules, though improvements could still be made to make it better. It was concluded that the use of many iterations of designing and testing is ideal for creating a rulebook with as few issues as possible.

Språklig sårbarhet uppstår i situationer där omgivningens krav och förväntningar inte överensstämmer med de språkliga förutsättningar som finns hos en individ. Flerspråkiga barn med bristande exponering på sina språk riskerar att hamna i språklig sårbarhet och saknar ofta basordförråd på svenska, vilket påverkar senare läs- och skrivinlärning. För att hjälpa dessa barn att utveckla ordförrådet krävs direkta interventionsmetoder. Syftet med föreliggande studie var att undersöka om en ordförrådsintervention som utgår från metoderna Interaktiv bokläsning och Ordskattsamling har en effekt på utvecklingen av basordförrådet på svenska hos flerspråkiga barn i språklig sårbarhet. Studien syftade även till att utvärdera om barnen har tillägnat sig ordinlärningsstrategier efter interventionen. Studien inkluderade 26 deltagare, varav 18 slutförde studien. Deltagarna fördelades till en interventionsgrupp och en kontrollgrupp. Samtliga barns ordförråd undersöktes före och efter interventionsperioden genom tre olika test: Semantiskt ordflöde med kategorin djur, deltestet Likheter 1 ur CELF-4 samt ett ordskattningstest. Resultatet visade att barnen som tog del av interventionen tillägnade sig fler nya ord och strategier för ordinlärning jämfört med kontrollgruppen. Resultaten visade ingen förbättring gällande ordmobilisering eller förmåga att kunna se samband mellan ord inom samma semantiska kategori, mätt med standardiserade test. Sammanfattningsvis visar resultaten i föreliggande studie att Interaktiv bokläsning och Ordskattsamling i kombination med fördel kan användas för att stötta ordförrådsutvecklingen hos elever i språklig sårbarhet.

The primary purpose of this thesis is to describe all areas of presentation of the financial statements in shareholders corporation according to the Czech accounting standards and Czech legal environment. Theoretical part of the thesis describes the general principles of the preparation of the financial statements followed by detailed analysis of four key areas associated with the financial statements. Theoretical part starts with focus on the year ending accounting procedures including inventory, control of accruals and deferrals, impairment of assets, depreciation, appreciation and tax due as well as deferred tax. Subsequently, it describes the actual closing of the accounts followed by the description of the financial statements. Theoretical part is completed by description of all related subsequent events such as audit, declaration of taxes, preparation of annual report and publication duties of the corporation. Practical part of the thesis focused on application of the theoretical findings on the process of the 2008 financial statements preparation of Planet A Corporation and evaluation of the financial statements and accounting as a true presentation of the company. Discrepancies and potential mistakes were commented with recommendation of possible solutions presented to the company management. Finally, the financial statements were considered as representing the true financial situation of the company.

Digitalization has been reshaping the media landscape in recent years, often conveying an implicit promise of becoming less dependent on physical resources. At the same time, the current understanding of digital reading goes beyond dedicated e-readers or definable digital media products such as magazines or newspapers. In fact, it must be perceived as a function or service obtained from existing and ever-expanding “digital ecosystems”. There is furthermore a clear and unambiguous trend that relatively small and mobile devices are on the rise for consuming all kinds of media. Next to potentially enabling environmental gains compared to traditional paper-based media consumption, there are agreeing indications of a shift from overall electricity consumption dominated by end-user devices towards an increasing importance of less tangible data transmission networks and data centers. Therefore, a bottom-up analysis is deemed to compliment more general top-down observations and assessments. To this end, an elaborated reference scenario is proposed as to bridge the mere analytical method of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) with behavioral aspects based on German market observations and surveys. The prevailing aim of this study is to detect environmental hot-spots and absolute impacts linked to the service of accessing text-based content via connected electronic devices. In doing so, this study takes the position that both types of media consumption – digital and paper-based - are incommensurable due to the very evident differences in provided functions, markets, and industries. Therefore, an attributional and stand-alone LCA is considered appropriate. The perceived current situation (reference scenario) evolves around substantiated estimates and assumptions concerning production of devices, use of devices as well as operation of essential data transmission network components. Looking at potential hot-spots, electricity consumption linked to data transmission could be a decisive factor for the environmental performance of digital reading. However, the actual importance of data transmission infrastructures depends on both methodological choices and a range of parameters or trends. For instance, the relative importance is shifted when more recent estimates of electricity intensities are incorporated. Depending on actual and localized electricity intensity of data transmission, the amount of data required to provide an expected function may inhibit environmental potentials of digital media consumption. Postulating average annual consumption of digital contents and assuming actual substitution of equivalent printed media products, about 50 kg CO2-equivalents. could potentially be avoided. This theoretical potential is based on the calculated global warming potential (GWP) associated with digital reading according to the reference scenario which amounts to about 29 kg CO2-equivalents. Therefore, this study supports findings from previous studies that indicated environmental benefits of digital reading. Compared to other functions or services (e.g. video/music streaming, podcasts, audio books) embedded in the same “digital ecosystems”, reading requires little amount of data. If allocation of upstream effects is based on time, the relative importance of data transmission networks could be gauged and compared by adopting a “data-to-service time” ratio. Taking the reference scenario as a starting point, a perceivable ratio for digital reading is 0.015 GB/h, including systemic inefficiencies. In contrast, streaming of high-definition video contents can easily consume 3 GB/h, a 200-fold increase. The audience of this study comprises providers of digital reading services and/or other media services as well as end-users as integral element in “digital ecosystems”. Besides, the report proposes a conceptual assessment framework which can be applied to other contemporary digital services or functions.
De senaste åren har digitalisering omformat medielandskapet, med ett implicit löfte om att minska beroendet av fysiska resurser. Dessutom finns det tydliga trender som pekar mot en ökad användning av små, mobila enheter för att konsumera alla sorters media. En uppdaterad bottom-up analys bedöms komplettera mer generella observationer och bedömningar. Om man antar årliga genomsnittliga konsumtionsmönster i Tyskland, så är tillverkningen av elektroniska slutanvändarenheter – oavsett om de är till för enskilda ändamål (e-läsare) eller om de är multifunktionella (smartphone, surfplatta) – onekligen en miljömässigt kritisk punkt för digitalt läsande. Elförbrukningen, som sker i samband med dataöverföringen, kan också vara en avgörande faktor för den övergripande miljöpåverkan av digital läsning. Dock beror den faktiska påverkan av dataöverförningsinfrastrukturer dels på metodologiska val men även på ett antal andra parametrar och trender. Genom att undersöka indikatorn för global uppvärmning kan denna studie konstatera att resultaten stödjer tidigare forskning, som redan pekar på de miljömässiga vinsterna av digitalt läsande. Målgruppen för denna studie innefattar både distributörer av digitala läs-tjänster och/eller andra media tjänster såväl som slutanvändare som ett integrerat element i ”digitala ekosystem”.

The purpose of this project has been to redesign an already existing cook-book. The title of the book (directly translated), “Season in food – the year around with herbs and spices”, contains what the headline imposes: spices, herbs and food. But when the author tries to entwine these parts and communicate it to the reader it is not working all to well due to a poor and inconsistent graphic design.

I have followed the theories and values of information design when I redesigned the book layout with the intent to simplify the communication between author and reader. In the progress to make a complete dummie of the book I did multiple literature studies, book analysis, tests and a vast number of drafts.

In this report I will describe the whole process from start to finish. It is impossible to explain every aspect of every theory and still make it interesting to read. Instead I try to explain the processes in a more comprehensive way. But details are inevitable and at those times it helps to use the appendix.


Mitt examensarbete har inneburit att göra en redesign på en redan befintlig kokbok. På bokensomslag står det: ”Kryddan i maten – året om med örter och kryddor” och den handlar om just detrubriken antyder: örter, kryddor och mat. Tyvärr har författarens syfte, att knyta samman dessa tvåbitar, gått förlorad i bokens inlaga. Detta beror på en inkonsekvent och ostrukturerad formgivning.

Mitt arbete har varit att med hjälp av informationsdesignens regler och teorier göra om och styraupp bokens layout på ett sånt sätt så att informationen på nytt blir lättillgänglig för användaren. Föratt lyckas med det har jag förutom ett gediget skissarbete även utfört utprovningar, litteraturstudiersamt bokanalyser.I denna rapport avhandlar jag hur hela arbetsprocessen sett ut– från bakgrund till färdigt resultat.

Rapporten har omöjligt kunnat behandla alla de frågor och tankegångar jag ställts inför utanbehandlar processen på ett mer övergripande sätt. Ibland beskrivs vissa moment detaljerat för attläsaren skall förstå, men genom bilagorna går det att snabbare få en förståelse för vad som menas.

Social activism is a foundation in librarianship. As community stewards,librarians regularly develop solutions to complex social issues from discrimination in the workplace to open source academic publishing. Increasingly, one of those issues is climate change. As the reality of climate change becomes more apparent, libraries are faced with their role in supporting healthy communities and environmental sustainability through activities like reducing carbon emissions. There has been much work on how to build greener collections and improve library facilities, but little attention has been paid to the role of weeding—specifically, what happens to deaccessioned materials. The Austin (Texas) Public Library developed an innovative, creative, and long-term model for recycling their core commodity. The Recycled Reads bookstore offers a useful example of how an urban library system recycles weeded print and media materials in such a way that 100 percent of their materials are diverted away from landfills. Through stakeholder buy-in and working closely with community and corporate partners, Austin Public Library's Recycled Reads facility is a model any library system could adopt to address environmentally responsible weeding policies.

The research involves illustrating the seasonal calendar and traditional stories for Frances Bodkin, an elder of the D’harawal people from the greater Sydney region, for: “D’harawal Seasons and Climatic Cycles” which was published in August 2008. Independent research into the traditional information encompassed a study of the traditional way of life of the D’harawal people, research into the climatic cycles outlined in the publication and a survey of both natural history illustrators and childrens book illustrators and the techniques and media they use. The illustrations rely on a study of natural history in order to provide informative, accurate and naturalistic representations of the plants, animals and environment. The illustrations form a ‘bridge’ between cultures by expressing Aboriginal culture using an art form that is easily interpreted by all Australians. The subsequent artworks were presented to the author to use as illustrations for this publication where appropriate. More books are in preparation dealing with land and water management practices and a collection of Dreaming stories.

"Image and Text" focuses on the consequences of multi-media interaction on the concept of a work's meaning(s) in three distinct publishing trends in nineteenth-century Britain: graphic satire, the literary annuals, and book illustration. The graphic satire of engravers James Gillray and George Cruikshank is replete with textual components that rely on the interaction of media for the overall satirical impact. Literary annuals combine engravings with the ekphrastic poetry of writers including William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Robert Southey, and Letitia Elizabeth Landon. Book illustrations provided writers Sir Walter Scott and Alfred, Lord Tennyson a means to recycle previously published works as "new" texts; the engravings promote an illusion of textual originality and reality by imparting visual meanings onto the text. In turn, the close proximity of text to image changes visual meanings by making the images susceptible to textual meanings. Many of the theoretical implications resulting from the pairing of media resound in modern film adaptations, which often provide commentary about nineteenth-century visual culture and the self-reflexivity of media. The critical heritage that has responded to the pairing of media in nineteenth-century print culture often expresses uneasiness with the relationship between text and mechanically produced images, and this uneasiness has often resulted in the treatment of text and image as separate components of multi-media works. "Image and Text" recovers the dialogue between media in nineteenth-century print forms often overlooked in critical commentary that favors the study of an elusive and sometimes fictional concept of an original work; each chapter acknowledges the collaborative nature of the production of multi-media works and their ability to promote textual newness, originality (or the illusion of originality), and (un)reality. Multi-media works challenge critical conventions regarding artistic and authorial originality, and they enter into battles over fidelity of meaning. By recognizing multi-media works as part of a diverse genre it becomes possible to expand critical dialogue about such works past fidelity studies. Text and image cannot faithfully represent the other; what they can do is engage in dialogue: with each other, with their historical and cultural moments, and with their successors and predecessors.
