Industrial Networks (INs) are widespread environments where heterogeneous devices collaborate to control and monitor physical processes. Some of the controlled processes belong to Critical Infrastructures (CIs), and, as such, IN protection is an active research field. Among different types of security solutions, IN Anomaly Detection Systems (ADSs) have received wide attention from the scientific community. While INs have grown in size and in complexity, requiring the development of novel, Big Data solutions for data processing, IN ADSs have not evolved at the same pace. In parallel, the development of Big Data frameworks such as Hadoop or Spark has led the way for applying Big Data Analytics to the field of cyber-security, mainly focusing on the Information Technology (IT) domain. However, due to the particularities of INs, it is not feasible to directly apply IT security mechanisms in INs, as IN ADSs face unique characteristics. In this work we introduce three main contributions. First, we survey the area of Big Data ADSs that could be applicable to INs and compare the surveyed works. Second, we develop a novel taxonomy to classify existing IN-based ADSs. And, finally, we present a discussion of open problems in the field of Big Data ADSs for INs that can lead to further development.

The muscle isozyme of adenylosuccinate synthetase (AdSS), an enzyme of the purine nucleotide cycle, has previously been shown to bind to purified F-actin in buffers of low ionic strength and pH (Ogawa et al. Eur. J. Biochem. 85: 331-338, 1978). We have extended these observations by measuring the association of both crude and purified AdSS with the contractile proteins of muscle in buffers of physiological ionic strength and pH. Under these conditions, the enzyme binds to F-actin, actin-tropomyosin complexes, reconstructed thin filaments, and myofibrils but not to myosin. The apparent dissociation constant of 1.2 microM and binding maximum of 2.6 nmol enzyme/mg myofibrils indicate that binding of AdSS to myofibrils can be physiologically significant. The results suggest that AdSS in muscle may be associated with the thin filament of myofibrils.

Background: Automated driving systems (ADSs) have the potential to fundamentally transform transportation by reducing crashes, congestion, and cost while improving traffic efficiency and access to mobility for the transportation-challenged population (US DOT, 2020). However, a recent on-road test of five vehicles capable of SAE Level 2 (SAE, 2016) driving automation equipped with forward collision warning (FCW), adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane departure warning (LDW), and lane keep assist (LKA) revealed that ADSs may not work as expected in typical driving situations, such as approaching stopped vehicles and negotiating hills and curves (IIHS, 2018). Even worse, people may not use ADSs as intended due to their misunderstanding of, over-trust, or distrust in such systems’ capabilities and limitations (IIHS, 2019). As Level 2 ADSs have become commercially available, accounts of unintended uses of these systems and fatal consequences have emerged. For example, a recent news article reported a Tesla driver napping behind the wheel (Fox News, 2019). Objective: Given the growing availability of ADSs on public roadways as well as the risk of their unintended use and safety consequences, this work aimed to better understand (1) realworld use of ADSs, (2) prevalence of unintended use of such systems, and (3) driver impressions after prolonged use of such systems. Method: The research team investigated an existing naturalistic driving database collected from the Virginia Connected Corridor Level 2 Naturalistic Driving Study (VCC L2 NDS, Dunn, Dingus, & Soccolich, 2019). The dataset contains data from 50 participants who drove personally owned vehicles for 12 months. Participating vehicles were equipped with longitudinal control systems (e.g., ACC) at the minimum, although most also had lateral control systems (e.g., LKA). Specifically, we investigated safety-critical events (SCEs, Guo & Fang, 2013) of different severity levels (e.g., crashes and near-crashes) captured in the data. We also examined drivers’ responses to a post-study questionnaire that captured drivers’ subjective ratings on the usefulness and usability of the ADS. Results: We found that 47 out of 235 (20%) SCEs involved ADS use. An in-depth analysis of 47 SCEs revealed that people misused ADSs in 57% of SCEs (e.g., engaged in secondary tasks, used the systems not on highways, or with hands off the wheel). During 13% of SCEs, the systems neither reacted to the situation nor warned the driver. A post-study survey showed that people found ADSs useful and usable. However, the more participants were positive to ADS features, the more they felt comfortable engaging in secondary tasks, which is an unintended side effect of Level 2 ADSs as they require the human driver’s supervision. This study also captured some scenarios where the ADSs did not meet driver expectations. Many people reported that the longitudinal control features did not respond well to cutting-in leads (23% of participants) and stopped leads (14%). The lateral control features were often automatically disengaged when encountering blurred lane markings (14% of participants reported) and had difficulties when negotiating curves (9%). Conclusion: This study contributes to a better understanding of the capabilities and limitations of early production SAE L2 vehicles, the prevalence of the unintended use of ADSs, and drivers’ perceptions of these new technologies. Designers of human-machine interfaces (HMIs) for such systems should always consider the possibility of drivers’ overconfidence in the systems. Therefore, it might be better for vehicles to have multimodal HMIs (Large et al., 2019) adaptive to not only the urgency of situations but also driver state by monitoring driver behavior and engagement in the primary task of driving. Application: The findings from this study may inform the development of HMIs, training programs, and owner’s manuals to reduce the unintended use of ADSs and safety consequences. The identified characteristics of situations where the ADSs failed to warn drivers during SCEs will further inform the development of testing scenarios to ensure ADS safety.

We have previously demonstrated that aged and diluted sidestream cigarette smoke (ADSS) alters the development of bronchiolar epithelial cells in postnatal animals (C. M. Ji, C. G. Plopper, H. P. Witschi, and K. E. Pinkerton. Am. J. Respir. Cell Mol. Biol. 11: 312–320, 1994). This study was designed to examine the effects of maternal exposure to ADSS on the development of fetal Clara cells in rats with Clara cell 10-kDa protein (CC10; also designated Clara cell secretory protein) and CC10 mRNA as differentiation markers. Immunohistochemistry, Northern blots, and in situ hybridization were used to determine the abundance and distribution of CC10 at gestational days 14, 18, and 21. CC10 and CC10 mRNA were absent at gestational day 14 but were detectable at gestational day 18 and further increased by gestational day 21. Maternal exposure to ADSS was found to significantly increase fetal expression of CC10 and CC10 mRNA by gestational day 21 but not by gestational day 14 or 18. These findings demonstrate that in utero exposure to ADSS alters the normal developmental expression of CC10 in the fetal rat lung.

Abstract This study was conducted to determine if enteric methane (CH4) emissions from pregnant beef heifers could be reduced by using multiple dietary mitigation strategies. The trial was designed as a 4 x 4 Latin square consisting of a 21-d adaptation phase followed by a 21-d data collection phase. Forty Aberdeen Angus cross pregnant beef heifers were randomly assigned to one of the four dietary treatments (n = 10): i) low protein grass hay (L; 6.1% CP; 1.9% fat); ii) adequate protein grass hay (AD; 10.8% CP; 1.9% fat); iii) AD supplemented with sunflower screenings (ADSS; 9.8% CP; 5.6% fat); and iv) above adequate protein legume grass mix hay (AAD; 12.8% CP; 1.7% fat). Total dry matter intake (DMI) was 32%, 27% and 39% greater (P < 0.0001) for AD, ADSS and AAD respectively, relative to the L diet (6.5 kg d-1). Average daily gain (ADG; kg d-1) was influenced by dietary treatment (P < 0.0001), as heifers offered L, AD, ADSS and AAD diets gained 0 ± 0.2, 0.6 ± 0.2, 0.5 ± 0.2 and 0.7 ± 0.2 kg d-1, respectively. Enteric CH4 emissions (L d-1), were influenced by dietary treatment (P < 0.0001) with 184 ± 18.9, 214 ± 19.0, 204 ± 19.1 and 232 ± 19.1 L d-1 for heifers offered L, AD, ADSS and AAD diets, respectively. Further, heifers offered AD, ADSS and AAD diets emitted 19%, 22% and 14% less (P=0.03) enteric CH4 (% GEI) relative to diet L, respectively. This study demonstrates that supplementation to meet nutrient requirements for protein or increasing the fat content of forage-based diets using low-cost by-products such as sunflower screenings can decrease enteric CH4 emissions without adversely impacting total DMI and ADG.

We investigated how different antioxidant defenses (ADSs) were shaped by evolution in young/old Apis mellifera workers and queens to broaden the limited knowledge on whether ADSs are effective in contemporary pesticide environments and to complete bee oxidative-aging theory. We acquired 1-day-old, 20-day-old, and 2-year-old queens and 1-day-old and 20-day-old workers (foragers) fed 0, 5, or 200 ppb imidacloprid, a pesticide oxidative stressor. The activities of catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione S-transferase, and superoxide dismutase and the level of total antioxidant potential were determined in hemolymph. The ADS was upregulated in workers with age but downregulated in queens. Imidacloprid suppressed the ADS in all workers, particularly in foragers with an upregulated ADS, but it did not affect the ADS in 1-day-old queens. In contrast to foragers, the downregulated ADS of 2-year-old queens was unexpectedly highly upregulated by imidacloprid, which has not been previously shown in such old queens. The principal component analysis confirmed that queen and worker ADSs responded to imidacloprid in opposite ways, and ADS of 2-year-queens was markedly different from those of others. Thus, evolutionary shaped ADSs of older queens and workers may be of the limited use for foragers dwelling in pesticide ecosystems, but not for old queens.

Compared with the traditional system, cloud storage users have no direct control over their data, so users are most concerned about security for their data stored in the cloud. One security requirement is to resolve any threats from semi-trusted key third party managers. The proposed data security for cloud environment with semi-trusted third party (DaSCE) protocol has solved the security threat of key managers to some extent but has not achieved positive results. Based on this, this paper proposes a semi-trusted third-party data security protocol (ADSS), which can effectively remove this security threat by adding time stamp and blind factor to prevent key managers and intermediaries from intercepting and decrypting user data. Moreover, the ADSS protocol is proved to provide indistinguishable security under a chosen ciphertext attack. Finally, the performance evaluation and simulation of the protocol show that the ADSS security is greater than DaSCE, and the amount of time needed is lower than DaSCE.

As the complexity of automated driving systemss (ADSs) with automation levels above level 3 is rising, virtual testing for such systems is inevitable and necessary. The complexity of testing these levels lies in the modeling and calculation demands for the virtual environment, which consists of roads, traffic, static and dynamic objects, as well as the modeling of the car itself. An essential part of the safety and performance analysis of ADSs is the modeling and consideration of dynamic road traffic participants. There are multiple forms of traffic flow simulation software (TFSS), which are used to reproduce realistic traffic behavior and are integrated directly or over interfaces with vehicle simulation software environments. In this paper we focus on the TFSS from PTV Vissim in a co-simulation framework which combines Vissim and CarMaker. As it is a commonly used software in industry and research, it also provides complex driver models and interfaces to manipulate and develop customized traffic participants. Using the driver model DLL interface (DMDI) from Vissim it is possible to manipulate traffic participants or adjust driver models in a defined manner. Based on the DMDI, we extended the code and developed a framework for the manipulation and testing of ADSs in the traffic environment of Vissim. The efficiency and performance of the developed software framework are evaluated using the co-simulation framework for the testing of ADSs, which is based on Vissim and CarMaker.

Purpose This article focuses on toddlers' revisions of the sentence subject and tests the hypothesis that subject diversity (i.e., the number of different subjects produced) increases the probability of subject revision. Method One-hour language samples were collected from 61 children (32 girls) at 27 months. Spontaneously produced, active declarative sentences (ADSs) were analyzed for subject diversity and the presence of subject revision and repetition. The number of different words produced, mean length of utterance, tense/agreement productivity score, and the number of ADSs were also measured. Results Regression analyses were performed with revision and repetition as the dependent variables. Subject diversity significantly predicted the probability of revision, whereas the number of ADSs predicted the probability of repetition. Conclusion The results support the hypothesis that subject diversity increases the probability of subject revision. It is proposed that lexical diversity within specific syntactic positions is the primary mechanism whereby revision rates increase with grammatical development. The results underscore the need to differentiate repetition from revision in the classification of disfluencies.

The increasingly used approach of combining different simulation softwares in testing of automated driving systems (ADSs) increases the need for potential and convenient software designs. Recently developed co-simulation platforms (CSPs) provide the possibility to cover the high demand for testing kilometers for ADSs by combining vehicle simulation software (VSS) with traffic flow simulation software (TFSS) environments. The emphasis on the demand for testing kilometers is not enough to choose a suitable CSP. The complexity levels of the vehicle, object, sensors, and environment models used are essential for valid and representative simulation results. Choosing a suitable CSP raises the question of how the test procedures should be defined and constructed and what the relevant test scenarios are. Parameters of the ADS, environments, objects, and sensors in the VSS, as well as traffic parameters in the TFSS, can be used to define and generate test scenarios. In order to generate a large number of scenarios in a systematic and automated way, suitable and appropriate software designs are required. In this paper, we present a software design for a CSP based on the Model–View–Controller (MVC) design pattern as well as an implementation of a complex CSP for virtual testing of ADSs. Based on this design, an implementation of a CSP is presented using the VSS from IPG Automotive (CarMaker) and the TFSS from the PTV Group (Vissim). The results showed that the presented CSP design and the implementation of the co-simulation can be used to generate relevant scenarios for testing of ADSs.

The affine distance symmetry set (ADSS) of a plane curve is an affinely invariant analogue of the euclidean symmetry set (SS) [7], [6]. We list all transitions on the ADSS for generic 1-parameter families of plane curves. We show that for generic convex curves the possible transitions coincide with those for the SS but for generic non-convex curves, further transitions occur which are generic in 1-parameter families of bifurcation sets, but are impossible in the euclidean case. For a non-convex curve there are also additional local forms and transitions which do not fit into the generic structure of bifurcation sets at all. We give computational and experimental details of these.

The integrity design problem of fault tolerant control for networked control system (NCS) with actuator failures and data packet dropouts is investigated. The data packet dropouts in both sensor-controller (S-C) and controller-actuator (C-A) links are described by two switches, which can be modeled as a discrete event system with known rate. After introducing the matrix of actuator failure, the closed-loop NCS is developed, which can be viewed as asynchronous dynamical systems (ADSs). Then, the sufficiency of exponential stability for the NCS is obtained based on the theory of ADSs. The output feedback controllers that can guarantee system stability are also proposed. Finally, two numerical examples are given to demonstrate the validity of our proposed approach.

Objective This research evaluated Automated Driving Systems (ADSs) involved collisions to identify factors relevant to future ADS research and development. Background Rapidly developing ADSs promise improved safety, among other benefits. Properly applied collision research can inform ADS development, to minimize future collisions. Errors and failures that result in collisions come from sources including the system, ADS operators, and external factors including other drivers. Partially automated systems incorporate new equipment and procedures creating new sources of human error. Fully autonomous systems represent a new class of drivers that interact in unique ways. Method ADS collision reports from the California Department of Motor Vehicles and the National Transportation Safety Board were collected. An expert in human factors and collision investigation analyzed and categorized the crashes while extracting common factors. Results ADS vehicles were never at fault but were often affected from the rear during braking, turning, and gap acceptance maneuvers. Side impacts to ADS vehicles were related to passing vehicles and lane keeping behaviors. Unique incidents also provided additional insights. ADS collision rates cannot yet be determined with confidence. Conclusion Conflicts that lead to collision-involvement with ADSs may be caused by differences between ADS and human driving behavior. Conservative ADS behavior may violate the expectations of other nearby human road users. Application The findings from this work help inform the future development of ADS, as well as potentially the testing of ADS and the formation of policy to guide their future deployment.

Chlorhexidine (CHX)-based dental hygiene products are widely used by dental patients. As these products may have long-term contact with denture poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) resin, anti-discoloration systems (ADSs) were included in them to prevent discoloration of the natural teeth and dental materials. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two newly designed CHX-containing gels with ADSs and two commercial products with ADSs (Curasept 0.5% and Curasept 1%) in preventing staining and to analyze the mechanical properties of heat-curing PMMA denture base resin. Materials and methods: Twenty-five discs (five for each test group) of PMMA dental resin with a thickness of 1 mm and a diameter of 20 mm were polymerized according to the manufacturer’s instructions and stored in distillate water at a temperature of 37 °C. The surface of the specimens was covered with two commercially available gels—Curasept 1% and Curasept 0.5%, or two experimental gel formulations containing 1% CHX. PMMA specimens stored in distilled water were used as control. The initial values of color and Brinell hardness of the specimens were measured immediately after specimen preparation. The changes in color and Brinell hardness, as well as water sorption, and solubility of the specimens were measured after one year of conditioning. Statistical analysis of the obtained data was performed using one-way analysis of variance and Dunn–Bonferroni post hoc tests. Results: In the group of specimens covered with gel 1 with citric acid or Curasept 0.5%, the color change was clinically acceptable (ΔE* < 2.7). In the specimens stored in contact with gel 2 with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and Curasept 1%, the ΔE* values were 3.6 and 3.67, respectively. In the control group, the level of hardness decreased significantly from 150 to 140 during the experiment. In addition, a statistically significant decrease in hardness was observed in specimens stored with Curasept 1% and gel 2 with PVP. Specimens stored in contact with Curasept 0.5% and gel 1 with citric acid also showed a lower hardness, but the change was not statistically significant. The sorption of all the groups of PMMA specimens ranged from 22.83 to 24.47 µg/mm3, with no significant differences found between them. All the PMMA specimens stored in contact with the tested CHX gels exhibited a significantly higher solubility (6.84 ± 7.91 µg/mm3) compared to the control group (6.74 µg/mm3), with the highest solubility noted for specimens stored with Curasept 1%. Conclusions: The results showed that CHX used in the gel form with ADSs at a concentration of 0.5% and the experimental gel containing 1% CHX with citric acid caused limited changes to the color and mechanical properties of the PMMA denture base resin during the study period. These gels may be safely used by dental patients for oral hygiene regimen even for prolonged periods of time. ADSs contained in these gels seem to be effective in preventing CHX discoloration.

The application of SpaceFibre network standard and ESDP transport protocol (the previous name is «STP-2») for streaming data transfer in onboard spacecraft networks is considered in the paper. The paper demonstrates that traffic management is needed in SpaceFibre networks. To solve this problem Adaptive Data Streaming Service (ADSS) could be used. ADSS Traffic management is based on the traffic control via changing of SpaceFibre configuration parameters and ESDP protocol’s mechanisms. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed to determine new SpaceFibre configuration parameters. The key function of GA is the quantity estimation of streaming data through SpaceFibre. To the best of our knowledge, there is no such methods for SpaceFibre networks. It is for this reason that the mathematical method of quantity estimation has been developed and presented in the paper. The math model of streaming over SpaceFibre was also developed for this method. It is based on Markovian chain. Examples of calculations are given. The proposed method could be used for SpaceWire networks with STP-ISS-14 protocol.

Pediatric optic neuritis (PON) may be a clinically isolated and self-limiting event or may present in the context of underlying neurologic, infective, or systemic disease. PON has a high impact on the quality of life as it may or may not evolve into other acquired demyelinating syndromes (ADSs), such as multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica (NMO), or other syndromes related to the myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein IgG antibodies (MOG-IgG). These different PON phenotypes present variable clinical and radiological features, plasma and liquor biomarkers, and prognosis. We describe four pediatric cases presenting clinically with ON, with different etiopathogenetic pictures: one case had a probable infective etiology, while the others were associated with different demyelinating disorders (MS, NMO, syndrome related to MOG-IgG). We discuss the possible evolution of presenting ON in other ADSs, based on recent literature. A careful evaluation of the clinical and investigation findings and the natural course of PON is necessary to define its pathogenic pathway and evolution. Further prolonged follow-up studies are needed to highlight the predictors of PON evolution, its potential sequelae, and the best treatment options.

Nature-based adult day services (ADSs) for people with dementia (PwD) are well-known in rural areas. In recent years, a number of providers have started offering these services in urban contexts, e.g., in city farms and community gardens, where people with dementia participate in outdoor activities, such as gardening and caring for animals. At the moment, little is known about these services within an urban context, and the aim of this study is to characterize different types of nature-based ADSs in urban areas for PwD living at home, as well as to identify general and specific challenges with regard to the development of different types of ADSs. An inventory was carried out and 17 ADS providers in urban areas were interviewed about their initiatives, settings, client groups, motivations for starting their nature-based ADS, and their experiences with, competences for, and funding of urban nature-based ADS. The interviews were recorded, transcribed verbatim and thematically analyzed. Five types of nature-based ADSs were identified: (1) services offered by social entrepreneurs, (2) nursing homes opening their garden to people with dementia, (3) social care organization setting up nature-based, (4) community garden set up by citizens, and (5) hybrid initiatives. Common activities were gardening, preparing meals, and taking care of farm animals. The main activities organized by nursing homes included sitting and walking in the garden and attending presentations and excursions. General challenges included the availability of green urban spaces and acquiring funding for the nature-based services. Initiatives of social entrepreneurs depended strongly on their commitment. Challenges for nursing homes included a lack of commitment among nursing staff, involvement of PwD living at home and a lack of interaction with the neighborhood. Volunteers played a key role in the initiatives organized by social care organizations and in community gardens. However, it was a major challenge to find volunteers who know enough about care and gardening. Specific challenges for the hybrid types were related to differences in work culture between social entrepreneurs and care organizations. Different types of care-oriented and community-oriented nature-based adult day services in urban areas for people with dementia have been developed, facing different types of challenges. Care oriented initiatives like nursing homes opening their garden focus on risk prevention and their nature-based services tended to be less diverse and stimulating for people with dementia living at home. Collaboration between such care-oriented initiatives with initiatives of other types of organizations or social entrepreneurs can lead to more appealing community-oriented nature-based services.

We have developed a synthetic route for the preparation of a hybrid bisubstrate small molecule based on a nucleoside. A prototype compound was designed and docked into the catalytic domain of the AdSS enzyme bridging the region between the magnesium center of the protein to the nucleoside region. Stability, coercive stability inequalities for solution of the first and second order of accuracy difference schemes (ADSs) are proved. Then, established abstract results are applied to get stable difference schemes for Bitsadze-Samarskii type overdetermined elliptic multidimensional differential problems with multipoint nonlocal boundary conditions. Finally, numerical results with explanation on the realization in two dimensional and three dimensional cases are presented.

The nuclear level density parameters of some deformed isotopes of target nuclei (Pb, Bi) used on the accelerator-driven subcritical systems (ADSs) have been calculated taking into consideration different collective excitation modes of observed nuclear spectra near the neutron binding energy. The method used in the present work assumes equidistant spacing of the collective coupled state bands of the considered isotopes. The present calculated results for different collective excitation bands have been compared with the compiled values from the literature for s-wave neutron resonance data, and good agreement was found.

Objective: Changing trends in multiple sclerosis (MS) epidemiology may first be apparent in the childhood population affected with first onset acquired demyelinating syndromes (ADSs). We aimed to determine the incidence, clinical, investigative and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of childhood central nervous system ADSs in the British Isles for the first time. Methods: We conducted a population active surveillance study. All paediatricians, and ophthalmologists ( n = 4095) were sent monthly reporting cards (September 2009–September 2010). International Paediatric MS Study Group 2007 definitions and McDonald 2010 MS imaging criteria were used for acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) and neuromyelitis optica (NMO). Clinicians completed a standard questionnaire and provided an MRI copy for review. Results: Card return rates were 90%, with information available for 200/222 positive notifications (90%). After exclusion of cases, 125 remained (age range 1.3–15.9), with CIS in 66.4%, ADEM in 32.0% and NMO in 1.6%. The female-to-male ratio in children older than 10 years ( n = 63) was 1.52:1 ( p = 0.045). The incidence of first onset ADS in children aged 1–15 years old was 9.83 per million children per year (95% confidence interval [CI] 8.18–11.71). A trend towards higher incidence rates of ADS in children of South Asian and Black ethnicity was observed compared with White children. Importantly, a number of MRI characteristics distinguished ADEM from CIS cases. Of CIS cases with contrast imaging, 26% fulfilled McDonald 2010 MS diagnostic criteria. Conclusions: We report the highest surveillance incidence rates of childhood ADS. Paediatric MS diagnosis at first ADS presentation has implications for clinical practice and clinical trial design.
