Allama Muhammad Iqbal started his poetry from Urdu ode or amatory verses. But very soon he started his poetry in Persian. Iqbal realized that the skirt of Urdu language is very narrow for his ideas and thoughts. He recognized that Urdu is a young inexperienced language. Urdu is spoken, written and reading in a limited part of the subcontinent. On the other hand person is an old and experienced language of the world and is spoken, written and reading in a vast part of the Muslim world. Persian language keeps the most valuable assets of poetry and prose. The Persians odes of Allama Iqbal are found in Piyam-e-mashriq and Zaboor-e-Ajam. Some Urdu odes of Iqbal are found in Bang-e-Dara and Zarb-e-kaleem, but the most important odes are found in his famous book of Urdu poetry named as Bal-e-jibreel. This collection of poems by Allama Iqbal is very important, because what is clearly stated in his Persian odes, is what is indicated in Bal-e-Jibreel. The first part of Bal-e-Jibreel consists of ghazals. Essentially, these ghazals portray the same meaning that the Persian ghazals imply. However, the experimental writing of these ghazals, the sheer talent employed in this book are as climactic in terms of poetry.

The Iqbal Memorial Lecture was instituted in 1994 when the Pakistan Society of Development Economists (PSDE) celebrated the completion of a decade of steady progress. A brief announcement stated: “The Iqbal Memorial Lecture attributed to the national poet [Emphasis added], Allama Muhammad Iqbal has been included in the programme for the first time. Professor Ian M. D. Little is delivering that lecture” [Secretary’s Report (1994), p. 1472]. Iqbal, the poet and philosopher par excellence, has made incisive remarks or comments on economic and social issues in his poetry, philosophical writings, and in the course of his discourses as well as some famous letters, particularly those written to the Quaid-i-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. But these do not make Iqbal an economist. The Secretary of the PSDE was, therefore, careful in observing that the lecture commemorates our “national poet”. However, it will be of great interest to this largest national congregation of economists and other scholars concerned with development to know that the very first published book of Iqbal related neither to poetry nor philosophy, but economics. It was written in Urdu. He also taught the subject at undergraduate and Master’s level, even though he had not studied it as a student. At the Government College, Lahore, Iqbal studied English, Philosophy and Arabic for his B.A. and then completed the M.A. in Philosophy.

Shakeb Jalali is the representative poet of the present age. He is mainly a ghazal poet. After independence, it seemed that Urdu ghazal would die but Shakeb is one of the poets who gave new life to it. He uses contemporary themes which make most of his poems famous like proverbs. He had a short life span but he gave ghazal a new form. He is convinced to explain big topics with great simplicity. He spent all his life in depression; even then the element of despair is less visible in his verse. His ghazals are a great asset of Urdu poetry which would influence the readers forever. His verse is based on innovation presenting an entirely new style. He was convinced to describe his experiences, observations, conditions and internal events with truth and authenticity instead of deception, deceit, and lies. His individuality distinguishes him from the poets of his era through his verse that is intellectually and technically different and the new generation seems to be influenced by it. This article analyses Shakeb’s verse in terms of technique and intellect.

Iqbal was a great poet of modern Urdu poetry and his contemporary poets directly accepted his influence. Iqbal's poems were published in Sir Abdul Qadir's magazine "Makhzn", so he gained fame very quickly. His contemporary poets started imitating his themes and styles when he became famous. In the beginning, Iqbal made the phenomena of nature the subject of his poems. His contemporary poets have also presented the beauty of nature in their poetry. Soon Iqbal changed his direction of thought and awakened the consciousness of the nation. When Iqbal started patriotic, national, and reformist poetry, themes of national nature flourished in his contemporaries' poems. The poetry of Iqbal's era is intellectually homogenous and common. The main reason is that Iqbal and his contemporaries share many revolutionary ideas and national thoughts. In the poems of Iqbal and his contemporaries, dreams are found for the country's bright future. In their poetry, the description of the homeland, India's greatness, and the scenes of nature are reflected. Iqbal and his contemporary poets have made naturalism, nostalgia, patriotism, and children's literature the same subject. They have the same reform, moral, political, and social consciousness. Iqbal and his contemporary poets were patriotic. They revealed the hidden secrets of the universe and nature. In the poetry of Iqbal and his contemporary poets, the element of message and preaching is prominent. There is a lot of similarity in their imagination and thoughts.

Shams ur Rahman Farooqi is an Indian poet and one of the leading Urdu critics and theorists. He is regarded as the T.S. Eliot of Urdu criticism and has formulated fresh models of literary appreciation. Farooqi’s novel is a true character sketch of Urdu-Persian poetry and Indo-Islamic culture. Although the novel has extraordinary qualities and is its own example, but the history and civilization of the age which it is talking about, is now ours. Is of no particular importance. Also, the language used in this novel is no longer commonplace, so it will be largely difficult and incomprehensible. One can clearly see the effects of this cultural breakdown mentioned earlier. And what has been said about language is that of the easy going temperament of our time. In addition to gender differences, it also interferes with the fact that the character that the author has established in the middle of the novel, contrary to the myths, is not the character of a famous and great classical poet. Rather, he is a person of our cultural history who is known to the world as Wazir Khanum alias Chhoti Begum. She has the honor of being the mother of Wazir Khanum Nawab Mirza Dag Dehlavi. As far as the fame and popularity of Dagh Dehlavi is concerned, if you look at it, Wazir Khanum will be called an anonymous woman. This is also a fact because our literary history about Wazir Khanum has been generally silent. Now, in this novel, the way in which the main character is presented and the details of facts and events that have been narrated, even if they are not fully historically confirmed, but they tell a lot about the life and personality of Wazir Khanum. Something can be guessed. At the same time in the light of the personality of Wazir Khanum of this eraIf a list of the best Urdu novels is compiled, Shams-ur-Rehman Farooqi's "Kai Chand The Sar Aasman" will surely be counted among the first ten novels

World literature teems with the portrayal of famous cities throughout the world. This kind of literature is unanimously known as city literature. It does not merely describe and portray places, objects, and landscapes for their own sake, it, however, gives readers a revisionist perspective to look afresh and introspectively into self, history, and culture. This paper aims to shed light on a city that witnessed great changes throughout its history. It is called Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, and it is one of such world-famous and ancient cities about which interesting and rich literature has been written. Sana’a has been immortalized in the prose and poetry of local and international prolific and intelligent writers such as Abdu al-Aziz al-Makkali, a famous contemporary Yemeni poet. Sana’a is magnificently portrayed in different exotic images in al-Makkali’s collection of poetry entitled Book of Sana’a. The poet engages in a kind of dialogue with the city in a personal experience and unique particularity, but in the process, this particularity becomes cosmopolitan. Each poem is located in a particular space which gives the poet and reader alike a sense of the place, history, and culture, and an intense feeling of wider identification and empathy. Sana’a is anthropomorphically portrayed as a beautiful woman, sad woman, beloved lady, spirit, and city of heaven. It is fantastically depicted as a unique piece of artifact molded and designed by the hands of God. So, this piece of research attempts to analyze social and political imports and the different images of the city employed by al-Makkali in his poetic work: Book of Sana’a. As a theoretical framework, the paper adopts both historical theory of criticism as well as the formalist theory, so the analysis is focused on both context and text of the selected poems.

abstract: The term ymddiddan has been used by editors and scholars to refer to a body of medieval Welsh poetry usually containing or composed of dialogue. This paper begins by addressing the use and misuse of the term, assessing the meaning of ymddiddan and demonstrating how editors' application of the term to titles of poems that are frequently untitled in their manuscript context has shaped perceptions of a genre of medieval Welsh dialogue poetry. Arguments about the performance of ymddiddanau made in connection with evidence from prose tales such as Owein are also considered. The rest of the paper seeks to reach an understanding of the nature of medieval Welsh dialogue poetry by analyzing the poems themselves. For this, the Black Book of Carmarthen (NLW Peniarth MS 1) is used to provide parameters for investigation. Not only do the poems in this manuscript have a concrete historical connection, but the high proportion of them that have been designated as ymddiddan means that the Black Book scribe's idiosyncrasies and editorial decisions may have impacted our understanding of the corpus. With the form and features of dialogue poems clarified, the issue of a genre is re-evaluated. The results of this study form the basis of a sister article, in which the most famous Welsh dialogue poem, Ymddiddan Myrddin a Thaliesin , is tested against the definition of dialogue poetry established here.

The article is written in the form of a book review. It tells about the Chinese avant-garde poetry as a tendency in the literature of the turn of the 20th and the 21st centuries. We are acquainted with the contemporary poetry through the eyes of Maghiel van Crevel, who, being a famous professor-sinologist, describes the lyrical vanguard with all its peculiarities. In his book he shows the real background of the exile poetry. The reader can not only see the positive sides of the modern poetry, but can also understand the controversial nature of the “Misty poetry” in its entirety. The article gives a brief history of contemporary poetry. It covers the period of forbidden underground poetry during the times of cultural revolution, and shows all the transformation stages of the Chinese avant-garde in literature. In the article we can trace the attitude of Maghiel van Crevel towards the Western art influence on the Chinese culture and poetry. He skillfully expresses his thoughts and feelings by using the words of the others and citing the leading Chinese literary critics. The most interesting thing is that the author of the book focuses his attention on the poets who do not belong to the key representatives of the poetic avant-garde. This helps the reader to understand that a poet is an ordinary person and can write in a simple manner using the colloquial speech just to be closer to other people. The key aim and goals of the Article is to become a vivid literary guide to the avant-garde poetry environment and to give some clues to the reasons of the poetry in exile.

The idea of pastoral poetry as therapy against love-melancholy is well rehearsed throughout the Renaissance. Guarini's Pastor Fido (1589) and Monteverdi Fifth Book of Madrigals (1605) represent two effective responses to the therapeutic urgencies of the pastoral. Guarini's famous pastoral ushers in a new form of dramatic poetry: tragicomedy, that is, with its tragic-in-the-comic purging formula and its advocacy for music as a necessary catalyst for the purging effect of poetry. Monteverdi's Book V co-opts to a great extent Guarini's pastoral in order to issue a program for a new tragic-in-the-comic aesthetics of musical grieving with an obvious cathartic purpose. Both efforts, then, are symptomatic signs of a culture that is not only particularly keen on the therapeutic function of the pastoral; it also pursues that therapeutic function by means of a profound reflection on aesthetics that shows a striking continuity across disciplinary lines.

Through these various definitions and entry points, it seems to us how difficult this study lies. To derive the concept of poetry for a critic, creator or poet. Here we are in front of a flag of criticism, trying to define his concept of poetry, and to extract some criteria that make measured speech his poetry. This science is Qudamah bin Jaafar, and our work is based on his book “Naqd al-Sha’ir”, “which is considered the first famous scientific critical impact on Arabic literature, Through this research, the researcher tries to present some of the issues raised by Qudama bin Jaafar to define the concept of poetry in his book "Naqd al-Sha'ir".

Abstract: This important eleventh-century collection of Latin poetry antecedes a more famous anthology, the thirteenth-century Carmina Burana (“Songs from Benediktbeuern”). This Cambridge group includes a wide variety of contents – panegyrics, dirges, political, religious, and didactic lyrics, comic tales, as well as poems of spring and of love. Like a medieval “top hits,” this varied assemblage could easily have been a student’s or poet’s class book or a professional entertainer’s songbook.

This article exposes on Thaha Husain’s thoughts on the authenticity of the pre-Islamic poetry descriptively by investigating his arguments in his famous book Fi al-Syi’ri al-Jahili (On Pre-Islamic Poetry) which was then changed into Fi al-Adab al-Jahili (On Pre-Islamic Literature) with some revisions. This study mainly discusses the authenticity of the pre-Islamic poetry, its urgency in interpreting the Qur’an, and how the Qur’an views pre-Islam Arab society. It is revealed in the article that a lot of pre-Islamic poetry was not composed in the era of ignorance (Jahiliyah) by pre-Islamic Arab poet but by plagiarists in the era of Abbasiyah Empire for some purposes: political, religion, Qishshah and Hadith narrators. According to Thaha Husain, that a lot of the pre-Islamic poetry neither fit in with pre-Islam Arab nor describe objectively pre-Islam Arab society. It is sufficient to refer to the Qur’an, which certainly valid, to obtain objective descriptions of the pre-Islamic Arab society.

The great Uzbek poet Alisher Navoi(1441-1501), during his lifetime, was widely known not only in his homeland, but also far beyond its borders. A contemporary and biographer of Navoi, the famous historian Hondemir, of course, not without some hyperbole, wrote: "He (Navoi -M.Kh.) in a short time took the cane of primacy from his peers; the fame of his talents spread to all ends of the world, and the stories of the firmness of his noble mind from mouth to mouth were innumerable. The pearls of his poetry adorned the leaves of the Book of Fates, the precious stones of his poetry filled the shells of the universe with pearls of beauty

AbstractEleven Americans, including a publisher, an international entrepreneur, two librarians, an historian, an art designer, a real estate agent, an author, an academic, an IT consultant and a bibliophile, were asked to choose which ten books they would recommend to a new arrival in the United States. Their target was defined as literate in English, well read, and with an intelligent outsider's knowledge of the United States. The participants, who made their choices unbeknown to one another, were invited to annotate their choices. The result is a kaleidoscope of views and arguments, with surprisingly little overlap, reflecting the endless diversity of the subject. The earliest of the 87 titles recommended is dated 1786, the most recent 2011. They include the famous and the obscure, scholarly and popular, tomes and light reading, poetry and essays, history and biography, science and sociology.
