Abstract We demonstrate a figure-of-9 all-fiber thulium-doped laser (TDFL) that generates 560 fs long pulses at 1948 nm wavelength. In order to achieve self-starting passive mode-locking, we utilize an in-fiber Faraday rotator to induce a nonreciprocal phase shift. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first all-fiber TDFL that combines an artificial saturable absorber (SA) with a chirped fiber Bragg grating (CFBG) as a wavelength-selective reflector. This cavity design is an excellent candidate to pump nonlinear processes such as supercontinuum and frequency comb generation since it does not require any SA material that degrades over time for mode-locking and could be made wavelength-tuneable via the CFBG.

The article presents data on the prevalence, classification, diagnosis, and treatment of burning mouth syndrome (BMS). Given the variety of etiological factors, special attention is paid to the differential diagnosis of idiopathic (primary) and secondary BMS. The article also examines topical and systemic causes of burning tongue, which should be excluded when examining patients with complaints specifically attributed to BMS. The information presented in the article allows physicians of various specialties to make an individual plan of diagnostic measures for each patient, taking into account the comorbid background and anamnestic data. The main cause of treatment difficulties in BMS is a complex, not fully investigated etiopathogenesis. Due to the fact that the multifactorial nature of this disorder is most likely to involve topical, systemic and psychogenic causes, a multidisciplinary method involving physicians of various specialties (neurologist, dentist, therapist, psychiatrist) is optimal in the patient management with BMS. Object The prognosis for patients with primary malignant brain tumors is poor despite aggressive treatment, and tumor recurrence is common regardless of the chosen therapy. Although multimodal treatment does not provide a cure, it is necessary to determine which treatment modalities have the greatest cytotoxic effect and can potentially prolong survival. Immunotoxin therapy is a novel approach for the treatment of tumors, and it has been successfully used in the central nervous system. Because the interleukin (IL)–4 receptor is commonly expressed on brain tumor cells, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the cytotoxic effect of using a modified diphtheria toxin–murine IL-4 (DT390-mIL4) immunoconjugate for the treatment of murine brain tumor cell lines and to determine whether the addition of radiation therapy could potentiate the effect of this agent. Methods Spontaneous murine glioblastoma (SMA-560) and two neuroblastoma (Neuro-2a and NB41A3) cell lines were treated using DT390-mIL4 at different concentrations, and the anti–mouse IL-4 monoclonal antibody (11B11) was used for blocking its cytotoxicity. Other SMA-560 and Neuro-2a cell lines were treated using 500 cGy of radiation 3 hours before DT390-mIL4 treatment. Cytotoxity was evaluated using a trypan blue viability assay. The immunoconjugate exhibited a dose-dependent cytotoxic effect with 50% inhibitory concentration values of 0.56 × 10−9 M in SMA-560, 1.28 × 10−9 M in Neuro-2a, and 0.95 × 10−10 M in NB41A3 cell lines. The cytotoxicity of DT390-mIL4 was specifically blocked by an excess of 11B11. Cytotoxicity was additive when the DT390-mIL4 at 10−9 M immunoconjugate administration was followed by radiation therapy. Conclusions These results indicate that the IL-4 receptor can be a target for diphtheria toxin fusion proteins and that radiation can potentiate the effects of DT390-mIL4. The development of multimodal approaches to treat malignant brain tumors with agents that have different mechanisms of action may be beneficial.

Abstract Background:Rigosertib is a novel phosphoinositide 3 kinase pathway inhibitor that induces G2/M arrest leading to the apoptosis of cancer cells and myeloblasts and causes minimal damage to normal cells. A Phase I study in the U.S. showed the safety and good tolerability of oral rigosertib in patients (pts) with low, intermediate-1, intermediate-2, or high risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). Methods:A multicenter, open-label Phase I clinical study was conducted to examine the tolerability of oral rigosertib in Japanese pts with recurrent/relapsed or refractory MDS, and to determine the recommended dose for a Phase II clinical study. The key eligibility criteria were as follows: patients with recurrent/relapsed or refractory MDS, aged 20 years or older, ECOG PS of 0 to 2, and no major organ dysfunctions. Rigosertib (280 and 560 mg BID) was administered orally in one 21-day cycle that consisted of the 14-day, twice-daily, oral administration term, followed by the 7-day monitoring term. In principle, oral rigosertib was administered in up to cycle 6. The primary endpoint was the dose-limiting toxicity (DLT) in each dose group. The secondary endpoints were as follows: 1) safety as assessed with adverse events (AEs) and laboratory results; 2) efficacy as assessed according to the International Working Group 2006 criteria; and 3) pharmacokinetics. Results: Between March 2013 and November 2014, 10 patients were enrolled at 7 medical institutions in Japan. However, 1 of them did not receive rigosertib because of a tendency for PS deterioration. Six pts were male, the median age was 70 years (range 52 to 80 years), and ECOG PS was 0 in 7 pts and was 1 in 2 pts. Consequently, 3 and 6 pts were eventually assigned to the 280 and 560 mg dose groups, respectively. According to the FAB classification, 4, 2, 2, and 1 pts were categorized to RAEB, RARS, RA, and RAEB-t, respectively. The prognostic factor according to IPSS was Int-1 risk in 4 pts (1 and 3 pts in the 280 and 560 mg dose groups, respectively) and was Int-2 in 5 pts (2 and 3 pts in the 280 and 560 mg dose groups, respectively). In the 280 mg dose group, 2 of 3 pts completed cycle 6, and the median relative dose intensity (RDI) was 86% (77 to 92%). In the 560 mg dose group, the maximum number of cycles delivered was 4, and the median RDI was 85% (68 to 93%). A total of 57 AEs developed. In the 280 mg dose group, grade 3 or higher nonhematologic toxicities, grade 3 type 2 diabetes mellitus, and grade 4 delirium (1/3, 33.3%) developed. In the 560 mg dose group, grade 3 AEs: cholecystitis, periodontitis, pneumonia, soft tissue infection, increased alanine aminotransferase, increased aspartate aminotransferase, and prolonged QT interval, as well as grade 5 urinary tract infection (1/6, 16.7%) developed. DLTs (all of which were grade 3 or higher nonhematologic toxicities) were observed with 1 of 3 pts in the 280 mg dose group (type 2 diabetes mellitus and delirium) and with 2 of 6 pts in the 560 mg dose group (urinary tract infection and prolonged QT interval). Serious AEs were 2 events in 1 of 3 pts in the 280 mg dose group (type 2 diabetes mellitus and delirium) and were 6 events in 3 of 6 pts in the 560 mg dose group (soft tissue infection, periodontitis, cholecystitis, and pneumonia in 1 pt, hematuria in 1 pt, and urinary tract infection in 1 pt). One pt in the 560 mg dose group died of septic shock that had been caused by a urinary tract infection during the study period. The hematological remission rate was 11.1% (1 marrow CR; 1/9 pts), and the hematological improvement rate was 11.1% (1 HI-P; 1/9 pts); however, cytogenetic response was not found. Plasma concentrations of rigosertib increased rapidly after each oral administration. Among the PK parameters, intersubject variability was observed in the maximum plasma concentration (Cmax) and the area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC). However, changes suggesting the accumulation of rigosertib during repeated oral administration (e.g., consistent increases in the Cmax and AUC) were not found. The urinary excretion rates of rigosertib on day 1 were 1.6 ± 1.0% and 11.0 ± 6.6% (mean ± SD) in the 280 and 560 mg dose groups, respectively. Conclusions: The present chemotherapy regimen of oral rigosertib was well tolerated. Our study indicates that the recommended dose for a Phase II clinical study is 560 mg BID in Japanese patients with recurrent/relapsed or refractory MDS. `Fuji' apples grown in the high light intensity of arid eastern Wash. are prone to sunscald damage. Evaporative cooling with over-tree sprinklers has become a commercially acceptable method for reducing the incidence of sunscald damage. A computer-controlled, over-tree evaporative cooling system was installed in a 3-yr-old commercial `Fuji'/M.9 orchard near Walla Walla, Wash. Over-tree sprinklers (Nelson R10 Mini Rotators) applied 280 or 560 1·min-1·ha-1 (30 or 60 GPM/A) when core temperatures were ≥33C (91.4F). Fruit skin and core temperatures were monitored with thermocouples. Fruit growth was not different between treatments. Skin color was improved by cooling, but the incidence of sunscald was low in all treatments. Commercial pack-out was measured and culls were evaluated. Fruit quality was analyzed at harvest and after 14 weeks storage. Titratable acids and soluble solids were higher in the 560 1·min-1·ha-1 treatment at harvest.

The annealing temperatures affect the grain sizes of the bcc α- Fe phase greatly. When the annealing temperature is between 540–560°C, the samples have better AC magnetic properties than the samples annealed at other temperatures. The optimized annealing temperature of the studied samples is around 560°C. The coercivity and iron loss of the V2 sample is a little bit higher than that of V1 and V1.5 alloys while the amplitude permeability of V2 alloy is larger than that of V1 and V1.5, which indicate that the content of V element has strong influence on the magnetic properties of nanocrystalline soft magnetic alloys.

AbstractPalmer amaranth is one of the most difficult-to-control weeds in row crop systems and has evolved resistance to several herbicide sites of action (SOAs). A late-season weed-escape survey had been conducted earlier to determine the distribution of protoporphyrinogen oxidase–inhibitor resistant Palmer Amaranth in Arkansas. The objective of this study was to evaluate the susceptibility of Arkansas Palmer amaranth accessions to commonly used herbicide SOAs. The SOAs evaluated were group 2 + 9, 3, 4, 5, 10, 14, 15, and 27, and the representative herbicide from each group was imazethapyr + glyphosate (79 + 860 g ha−1), trifluralin (1,120 g ha−1), dicamba (280 and 560 g ha−1), atrazine (560 g ha−1), glufosinate (594 g ha−1), fomesafen (395 g ha−1), S-metolachlor (1,064 g ha−1), and tembotrione (92 g ha−1), respectively. Palmer amaranth mortality varied among accessions across SOAs. Averaged across accessions, the mortality rates, by treatment in order from lowest to highest, were as follows: glyphosate + imazethapyr (16%), tembotrione (51%), dicamba at 280 g ha−1 (51%), fomesafen (76%), dicamba at 560 g ha−1 (82%), atrazine (85%), trifluralin (87%), S-metolachlor (96%), and glufosinate (99.5%). This study provides evidence that Palmer amaranth accessions with low susceptibility to glyphosate + imazethapyr, fomesafen, and tembotrione are widespread throughout Arkansas. Of the remaining SOAs, most Palmer amaranth accessions were sensitive; however, within each herbicide SOA, except glufosinate, control of some accessions was less than expected and resistance is suspected.

The amorphous ribbons were then annealed under vacuum at the same time and temperatures. The samples were characterized by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Microhardness measurements and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). It was observed that the ASPN treatment leads to finer grain size and higher crystalline volume fraction and modifies the structural features of Fe ( Si ) phase. The Fe ( Si ) lattice parameter for the nitrided samples was higher than that for the annealed samples due to the diffusion of nitrogen into the Fe ( Si ) phase and the formation of Si - N precipitates. In ASPN treatment, the lowest magnitude of coercivity and the maximum saturated magnetization were obtained at 480 °C and 560 °C, respectively, in 75% H 2-25% N 2 gas mixture. ASPN treatment increased the microhardness of the samples.

A waterhemp population from a native-grass seed production field in Nebraska was no longer effectively controlled by 2,4-D. Seed was collected from the site, and dose-response studies were conducted to determine if this population was herbicide resistant. In the greenhouse, plants from the putative resistant and a susceptible waterhemp population were treated with 0, 18, 35, 70, 140, 280, 560, 1,120, or 2,240 g ae ha−12,4-D. Visual injury estimates (I) were made 28 d after treatment (DAT), and plants were harvested and dry weights (GR) measured. The putative resistant population was approximately 10-fold more resistant to 2,4-D (R:S ratio) than the susceptible population based on both I50(50% visual injury) and GR50(50% reduction in dry weight) values. The R:S ratio increased to 19 and 111 as the data were extrapolated to I90and GR90estimates, respectively. GR50doses of 995 g ha−1for the resistant and 109 g ha−1for the susceptible populations were estimated. A field dose-response study was conducted at the suspected resistant site with 2,4-D doses of 0, 140, 280, 560, 1,120, 2,240, 4,480, 8,960, 17,920, and 35,840 g ha−1. At 28 DAT, visual injury estimates were 44% in plots treated with 35,840 g ha−1. Some plants treated with the highest rate recovered and produced seed. Plants from the resistant and susceptible populations were also treated with 0, 9, 18, 35, 70, 140, 280, 560, or 1,120 g ae ha−1dicamba in greenhouse bioassays. The 2,4-D resistant population was threefold less sensitive to dicamba based on I50estimates but less than twofold less sensitive based on GR50estimates. The synthetic auxins are the sixth mechanism-of-action herbicide group to which waterhemp has evolved resistance.

Six field trials were conducted at Ridgetown, ON, over a 2-yr period (2015 and 2016) to determine the tolerance of two corn hybrids to 2,4-D (560 and 1120 g a.i. ha−1) and glyphosate (1800 g a.e. ha−1) applied alone or in combination at stage V1, V3, or V5. In DeKalb DKC52-61 corn, 2,4-D caused as much as 24%, 16%, 11%, and 11% visible injury at 1 wk after each postemergence herbicide application (WAT), 2 WAT, 4 wk after the last postemergence herbicide application (WA-C), and 8 WA-C, respectively. Plant stand was not affected, but plant height decreased by 5 cm at 560 g a.i. ha−1 and 7% at 1120 g a.i. ha−1. As the application timing was delayed from stage V1 to V5, there was a trend to increased injury at both 2,4-D rates. Corn yield decreased 8% with 2,4-D applied at 560 g a.i. ha−1 and 12% at 1120 g a.i. ha−1. In Pioneer P0094AM corn, 2,4-D caused as much as 16%, 9%, 7%, and 7% visible injury at 1 WAT, 2 WAT, 4 WA-C, and 8 WA-C, respectively. Plant height was not affected, but goosenecking and brace root malformation were increased as the rate of 2,4-D was increased. There was generally no difference between glyphosate rates (1800 vs 0 g a.e. ha−1) at the V1 corn stage but visible injury, goosenecking, and brace root malformation at other application timings was as much as 15%, 3%, and 19% greater when 2,4-D was applied in a tank mixture with glyphosate, respectively. Yield was reduced by 12% when 2,4-D (1120 g a.i. ha−1) was applied with glyphosate in the tank mixture.

Abstract The efficacy and safety of zanolimumab in patients with refractory cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) have been assessed in two phase 2, multicenter, prospective, open-label, uncontrolled clinical studies. Patients with treatment refractory CD4+ CTCL (mycosis fungoides [MF], n = 38; Sézary syndrome [SS], n = 9) received 17 weekly infusions of zanolimumab (early-stage patients, 280 and 560 mg; advanced-stage patients, 280 and 980 mg). The primary end point was objective response (OR) as assessed by composite assessment of index lesion disease activity score. Secondary end points included physician's global assessment (PGA), time to response, response duration, and time to progression. ORs were recorded for patients in both CTCL types (MF, 13 ORs; SS, 2 ORs). In the high-dose groups (560 and 980 mg dose groups), a response rate of 56% was obtained with a median response of 81 weeks. Adverse events reported most frequently included low-grade infections and eczematous dermatitis. Zanolimumab showed marked clinical efficacy in the treatment of patients with refractory MF, with early onset of response, high response rate, and durable responses. The treatment was well tolerated with no dose-related toxicity other than the targeted depletion of peripheral T cells. A pivotal study has been initiated based on these findings.

The study was carried out between March to September 2020 to determine the prevalence and intensity of hookworm infection in relation to anaemia among primary school children in Lafia rural areas of Nasarawa State namely Musha, Alawagana, Duglu and Azuba. Four primary schools were randomly selected from the locality and a total of 560 faecal and 69 blood samples were collected and analysed. Out of the 560 faecal samples analysed, 115(20.5%) were infected with hookworm with a Geometric Mean Intensity (GMI) of 436.2 eggs per gram of faeces (epgf). Meanwhile, the prevalence and GMI of hookworm infection were higher in females (21.5%, 76.3 epgf) than in males (19.6%, 71.1 epgf), though no significant difference (p>0.05) in the prevalence between males and females. Age group 10 12 years old had the highest prevalence rate of hookworm infection (26.3%), followed by 13 15 (22.9%), 7 9 (19.2%) and 4 6 (9.0%). There was a strong inverse correlation (r = -0.99) between the intensity of hookworm infection and haemoglobin value. Haemoglobin value decreased with an increase in the intensity of hookworm infection in terms of eggs per gram of faeces. Hookworm infection is therefore associated with anaemia in the study area.

The aim of the work was to determine the effectiveness of using microwave heating in the production of puree from hawthorn fruits, mountain ash and powder from peppermint leaves for further preparation of fruit paste for baking based on them. The studies were carried out in the laboratory of functional food products of the Michurinsk State Agrarian University of the Tambov Region. Depending on the type of raw material, the advantage of microwave heating was established in comparison with traditional methods: blanching and convective drying in terms of the content of antioxidants such as flavonoids, carotene and vitamin C, which increased by 1.2-2.8, 1.01-1.4 and 1.1-3.3 times, respectively. A technology has been developed for fruit paste based on hawthorn fruit puree, mountain ash and peppermint leaf powder in a recipe ratio of 57:38:5, characterized by an increased antioxidant value due to the use of optimal microwave processing modes: rowan and hawthorn fruits are heated, respectively, to a temperature of 70 and 87 oC at power 700 W, specific work 560 and 700 W/g·s for 80 and 100 s; peppermint leaves are dried to a moisture content of 9-10 % at a power of 560 W, specific work 214 W/g·min for 38.1 minutes. The developed fruit paste in the amount of 100 g covers the human body's need for water-soluble antioxidants - vitamin C, flavonoids by 94.5 %, 305.4 % and fat-soluble - carotene by 87.8 %. A positive effect was found from the use of fruit paste in the recipe of rye-wheat bread prepared without the use of baker's yeast, at a dosage of 9 % of the total mass of flour on the physical and chemical indicators of the quality of bread, as compared with the control, the specific volume increased from 2.0 to 2.15 cm/g, porosity from 62.79 to 65.28 %. According to organoleptic indicators, the developed type of bread differs from the traditional one in the presence of aroma and flavor of mint and fruits, the color of the crumb acquires a honey color with a reddish-pink tint.

In contrast, the number of visible root buds plus secondary shoots increased 1.9- to 2.3-fold between 9 and 67 g/ha chlorsulfuron 1 month after soil surface treatment. Despite more numerous root buds, the number of secondary shoots arising from adventitious root buds progressively decreased as chlorsulfuron rate was raised. Increases in the number of visible root buds were observed first between 3 and 4 weeks following soil application with 67 g/ha of chlorsulfuron, 2 weeks after shoot growth stopped.

New U–Pb zircon ages from volcanic, plutonic, and sedimentary units in the Avalonian Caledonia terrane of southern New Brunswick provide better timing constraints in this geologically complex area. Previous ca. 620 Ma ages from the Broad River Group are now corroborated by additional dates from felsic tuff in the Gordon Falls Formation and rhyolite in the former Fairfield (now East Branch Black River) Formation of 620 ± 5 Ma and 622 ± 1.9 Ma, respectively. Combined with ages ranging from ca. 625 Ma to 615 Ma from crosscutting plutons, the data suggest that the minimum age of the Broad River Group is about 615 Ma. A quartzfeldspar porphyry dyke in mafic volcanic rocks of the previously undated Long Beach Formation yielded an igneous crystallization age of 685 ± 10 Ma, the oldest unit yet dated in the Caledonia terrane but similar in age to porphyry in the Stirling belt in the Avalonian Mira terrane of Nova Scotia. The age of the Coldbrook Group was constrained previously by U–Pb (zircon) ages of volcanic rocks between 560 and 550 Ma as well as by similar ages from comagmatic plutons. Five additional samples from both volcanic and plutonic units lie in the same range of 560–550 Ma, including errors, demonstrating that the Coldbrook Group and related plutons formed in less than 10 million years. Such a large volume of mainly felsic magma erupted and emplaced in a short time span suggests a “supereruption/supervolcano” environment such as the late Cenozoic southwestern USA but not yet recognized at ca. 560–550 Ma elsewhere in Avalonia. Two units yielded Paleozoic ages: felsite of the Bloomsbury Mountain Formation with a zircon population at 427 ± 9 Ma, indicating a Silurian maximum emplacement age, and dacite of the Grassy Lake Formation with several zircon grains at 382.8 ± 8.3 Ma, indicating a maximum age of middle Devonian, the first rocks of this age to be identified in the Caledonia terrane.

Abstract Abstract 1643 Introduction: Ibrutinib is an orally available, irreversible inhibitor of BTK, a downstream protein in the B-cell receptor signaling pathway critical for normal B-cell development. In a phase I study in patients with relapsed B-cell malignancies (Fowler ASH 2010), the overall response rate (ORR) was 43%, with responses observed in patients with relapsed mantle cell (MCL), diffuse large B-cell (DLBCL), follicular (FL), and marginal zone lymphoma (MZL). In a phase II single agent study in MCL (Wang ASH 2011), ORR was 67% with several responding patients remaining on ibrutinib over 1 year. Rituximab (R) and bendamustine is a highly active regimen with ORR ranging from 52–92% in patients with relapsed/refractory NHL. This phase I study was designed to determine the maximum tolerated dose, dose limiting toxicity (DLT), toxicities, and preliminary efficacy of R-bendamustine in combination with ibrutinib in patients with relapsed/refractory NHL. Methods: Eligibility included patients with relapsed/refractory FL, MZL, MCL, transformed NHL, and DLBCL, and patients with previously untreated MCL not candidates for autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT). ANC ≥1000/mm3, platelets ≥50,000/mm3, and creatinine ≤ 2.0 mg/dL were required at study entry. Prior ASCT, rituximab, bendamustine, and ibrutinib were permitted. Treatment consisted of R 375 mg/m2 day 1, bendamustine 90 mg/m2days 1 and 2, and escalating doses of ibrutinib (280 mg or 560 mg) days 1–28 every 28 days for 6 cycles. Six patients were enrolled at each dose level. Responding patients could continue ibrutinib alone after cycle 6 until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. Pegfilgrastim was permitted for patients with grade 4 neutropenia during cycles 1–6. Response was assessed after cycles 3 and 6 by International Harmonization Criteria (Cheson, JCO 2007). Results: Eleven patients (9 males) with a median age of 72 (range 45–84) previously treated with a median of 3 prior therapies (range 0–10) were enrolled. Six patients were refractory to their most recent therapy, 4 patients had prior ASCT, 2 patients had received prior bendamustine, and no patients had prior ibrutinib. Other characteristics included stage III-IV disease in 82%, extranodal involvement in 64%, elevated IPI ≥3 in 55%, bulky adenopathy ≥5 cm in 45%, B-symptoms in 45%, and elevated LDH in 36%. Histologies included MCL (n=3), DLBCL (n=3, all germinal center origin by Hans immunohistochemical criteria), transformed NHL (n=2), FL (n=2), MZL (n=1). Nine patients completed two or more cycles of therapy (median 3, range 1–6) with 280 mg of ibrutinib (n=6) and 560 mg of ibrutinib (n=3). Two patients who discontinued therapy prior to completing cycle 1 for progressive disease (PD) at 280 mg and 560 mg of ibrutinib, respectively, were replaced. Six patients continue to receive protocol treatment. The 5 patients off study included the 2 patients with DLBCL and transformed NHL who were replaced for PD prior to completing cycle 1, 2 patients with DLBCL and PD after cycles 3 and 4, and 1 patient with MCL receiving 280 mg ibrutinib with R-bendamustine who discontinued due to grade 3 neutropenia lasting > 14 days after cycle 4. No DLTs have been observed. Grade 3–4 events included lymphopenia (64%), neutropenia (27%), thrombocytopenia (18%), pancreatitis (9%), vomiting (9%), shingles (9%), and rash (9%). Dose reductions from 280 mg ibrutinib to 140 mg were required in 3 patients for grade 3 thrombocytopenia, pancreatitis, and rash. Bendamustine dose reductions to 60 mg/m2were required in 1 patient for grade 3 thrombocytopenia. ORR was 38% in 8 evaluable patients, with 3 patients currently receiving protocol treatment who have not yet undergone restaging scans. Responses included 2 complete responses and 1 partial response in the 3 patients with MCL. Conclusions: Combined ibrutinib with R-bendamustine appears well tolerated without unexpected toxicity and with preliminary activity in patients with previously untreated and relapsed MCL. Three additional patients will be accrued to the 560 mg dose level and expansion cohorts examining this combination specifically in patients with FL, DLBCL, and MCL are planned. Disclosures: Blum: Pharmacyclics: Research Funding. Off Label Use: Ibrutinib is not approved for the treatment of NHL. Jaglowski:Pharmacyclics: Research Funding. Each herbicide was applied PRE or POST alone or in 1:8 combinations of rimsulfuron to metribuzin. Yield of either variety was not reduced by any treatment. Rimsulfuron applied PRE or POST at the suggested field use rate of 35 g/ha controlled smooth pigweed, redroot pigweed, ivyleaf morningglory, and common cocklebur 100%, common lambsquarters 90%, and jimsonweed 60%. Large crabgrass and fall panicum were controlled 92% by rimsulfuron at 35 g/ha. Reduced rates of 9 g/ha rimsulfuron plus 69 g/ha metribuzin, applied PRE or POST, controlled all weeds 100% except jimsonweed, fall panicum, and large crabgrass. For complete control of these weeds, rimsulfuron at 35 g/ha plus metribuzin at 280 g/ha was required.

Objectives: Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) and their ratio (MMP-9/TIMP-1) are involved in multiple processes that are associated with coronary heart disease and are especially associated with cardiovascular events. However, few long-term population-based clinical studies have evaluated the role of these factors in cardiovascular events in a Chinese population. Methods: A prospective study was performed on 560 patients with mild to moderate coronary artery lesions. MMP-9, TIMP-1 and their ratio were determined. Results: A total of 522 of patients completed the follow-up. The median follow-up time was 64 months. Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated a clear increase of the incidence of major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) during the follow-up period in subjects with above-median levels of TIMP-1 (p = 0.033), whereas there was no association with either MMP-9 (p = 0.199) or MMP-9/TIMP-1 (p = 0.631). Multivariate Cox proportional hazards analysis showed the same results after further adjustment for covariates. Patients with above-median levels of TIMP-1 were more likely to suffer from adverse outcomes than patients with below-median levels of TIMP-1. However, the lack of relationship of MACEs with MMP-9 and MMP-9/TIMP-1 remained. Conclusions: Higher circulating TIMP-1 concentrations were associated with cardiovascular events during long-term follow-up of Chinese patients with mild to moderate coronary artery lesions.

Microstructure and mechanical properties in QT-Treated 9Ni steel were investigated. The detail microstructures were observed by optical microscope (OM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The volume fraction of austenite was estimated by XRD. Tensile test at room temperature and Charpy-V-Notch (CVN) impact test at -196°C were carried out. The results showed that the microstructure of QT-treated 9%Ni steel was composed of tempered martensite and reversed austenite. The brittle cementite was absorbed gradually by the increasing reversed austenite as the tempering temperature increased. The optimum tempering temperature range was 560°C~580°C. The reversed austenite could improve the cryogenic toughness of 9Ni steel through the combination of the scavenging effect and the TRIP effect.

Abstract As a contribution to the systematic evaluation of sources of selected trace organics discharged into the St. Clair River in Sarnia, municipal sources, such as urban runoff, drainage ditch flow and wastewater treatment plant effluent, were evaluated. The sampling of these sources indicated the presence of trace organics at fairly low levels. The treated effluent conveyed the highest loadings of perchloroethylene (560 kg/yr) and carbon tetrachloride (4 kg/yr). The drainage ditch receiving some industrial discharges conveyed the highest loadings of hexachlorobutadiene (9 kg/yr) and hexachloroethane (2 kg/yr). The annual loadings of pentachlorobenzene, hexachlorobenzene and octachlorostyrene were smaller than 0.1 kg/yr. The loadings from municipal sources were found insignificant in comparison to those from industrial sources.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the intestinal health and growth performance of nursery pigs affected by dietary supplementation of increasing levels of xylanase and b-glucanase combinations. Pigs [n = 40; initial body weight (BW) = 6.5 ± 0.4 kg] were assigned to 5 dietary treatments and fed for 35 d in 3 phases (11, 9, and 15 d, respectively). Basal diets mainly included corn, soybean meal, and distiller’s dried grains with solubles with phytase (750 FTU/kg) supplemented with 5 levels of xylanase and b-glucanase combinations (NSPase) at 1) 0, 2) 280 TXU/kg xylanase and 125 TGU/kg b-glucanase, 3) 560 and 250, 4) 840 and 375, or 5) 1,120 and 500, respectively. Growth performance and fecal score were measured for each phase. On d 35, all pigs were euthanized and collected jejunal mucosa, jejunal digesta, jejunal tissues, and ileal digesta to determine the effects of increasing NSPase levels (%) and NSPase intake on jejunal mucosa-associated microbiota, jejunal digesta viscosity, immune responses, intestinal morphology, feed digestibility, and growth performance. Increasing NSPase level quadratically decreased (P < 0.05) Bacteroidetes (min: 0.7% at 636 TXU/kg and 284 TGU/kg), Prevotellaceae (min: 0.6% at 630 TXU/kg and 281 TGU/kg) in the jejunal mucosa. Increasing NSPase intake quadratically increased (P < 0.05) Firmicutes (max: 72.7% at 604 TXU/kg and 270 TGU/kg), Lactobacillaceae (max: 40.3% at 608 TXU/kg and 271 TGU/kg), and Lactobacillus (max: 40.3% at 608 TXU/kg and 271 TGU/kg) in the jejunal mucosa. Increasing NSPase intake also quadratically decreased (P < 0.05) Proteobacteria (min: 3.8% at 562 TXU/kg and 251 TGU/kg), Helicobacteraceae (min: 1.6% at 560 TXU/kg and 250 TGU/kg), and Helicobacter (min: 1.6% at 560 TXU/kg and 250 TGU/kg) in the jejunal mucosa. Increasing NSPase intake tended to quadratically decrease (P = 0.059) viscosity of jejunal digesta reaching the minimum (1.74 mPa·s) at 751 TXU/kg and 335 TGU/kg. Increasing NSPase level tended to linearly decrease (P = 0.073) jejunal IgG and tended to quadratically increase (P = 0.085) jejunal villus height to crypt depth ratio reaching the maximum (2.62) at 560 TXU/kg and 250 TGU/kg. Increasing NSPase intake tended to linearly increase the apparent ileal digestibility of dry matter (P = 0.087) and ether extract (P = 0.065). Increasing NSPase intake linearly increased (P < 0.05) average daily gain (ADG). In conclusion, increasing the combinational use of xylanase and β-glucanase positively modulated jejunal mucosa-associated microbiota, reduced jejunal digesta viscosity, reduced intestinal humoral immune response, enhanced villus morphology, increased ileal digestibility of nutrients, and increased growth of nursery pigs. The beneficial effects were maximized when xylanase and β-glucanase were supplemented at a range of 550 to 800 TXU/kg and 246 to 357 TGU/kg, respectively.

Influences of heat treatment and Co content on the crystallization were analyzed through differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD). The microstructure was analyzed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The magnetic properties of ( Fe 50 Co 50)73.5 Cu 1 Nb 3 Si 13.5 B 9 and Finemet ribbons were tested by an alternating current soft magnetic properties measurement system. A comparative study of frequency dispersion properties between ( Fe 50 Co 50)73.5 Cu 1 Nb 3 Si 13.5 B 9 and Finemet was conducted. Results indicate that the optimal magnetic property has been achieved when ( Fe 50 Co 50)73.5 Cu 1 Nb 3 Si 13.5 B 9 ribbons were annealed at the temperature range of 480°C–520°C, after which the grain size became between 10 nm and 20 nm. Although the permeability of ( Fe 50 Co 50)73.5 Cu 1 Nb 3 Si 13.5 B 9 is not as high as that of Finemet, this Co -doped Finemet amorphous alloy presents better high frequency properties, and therefore is a promising candidate for the high frequency field applications.

Inhibition of nitric oxide synthesis (NOS) induces hypertension and heavy proteinuria. Renal structure and function have shown striking improvement after interventions targeting ANG II or endothelin (ET) receptors in rats recovering after long-term NOS inhibition. To search for mechanisms underlying losartan-assisted regression of renal disease in rodents, we measured NO release and contractility to ET in afferent arterioles (AAs) from Sprague-Dawley rats recovering for 2 wk after 4 wk of NG-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester treatment. Losartan administration during the recovery period decreased blood pressure (113 ± 4 vs. 146 ± 5 mmHg, P < 0.01), reduced protein/creatinine ratio more (proteinuria decrease: Δ1,836 ± 214 vs. Δ1,024 ± 180 mg/mmol, P < 0.01), and normalized microvascular hypertrophy (AA media/lumen ratio: 1.74 ± 0.05 vs. 2.09 ± 0.08, P < 0.05) compared with no treatment. In diaminofluorescein-FM-loaded AAs from losartan-treated animals, NO release (% of baseline) was increased compared with untreated animals after stimulation with 10−7 M ACh (118 ± 4 vs. 90 ± 7%, t = 560 s, P < 0.001) and 10−9 M ET (123 ± 4 vs. 101 ± 5%, t = 560 s, P < 0.001). There was also a blunted contractile response to 10−7 M ET in AAs from losartan-treated animals compared with untreated animals (Δ4.01 ± 2.9 vs. Δ14.6 ± 1.7 μm, P < 0.01), which disappeared after acute NOS inhibition (Δ10.7 ± 3.7 vs. Δ12.5 ± 2.9 μm, not significant). Contractile dose responses to ET (10−9, 10−8, 10−7 M) were enhanced by NOS inhibition and blunted by exogenous NO (10−2 mM S-nitroso- N-acetyl-penicillamine) in losartan-treated but not in untreated vessels. Reducing blood pressure similar to losartan with hydralazine did not improve AA hypertrophy, ET-induced contractility, ET-induced NO release, and NO sensitivity. In conclusion, blockade of the local action of ANG II improved endothelial function in AAs, a mechanism that is likely to contribute to the beneficial effects of AT1aR antagonism during the recovery of renal function after long-term NOS inhibition in rats.

Methods: From October 2007 to October 2008 we recollected 560 oncologic patients who were seen on Emergency room. It was revised cause of consultation, tumors´ location and stage, active or palliative care, diagnosis and treatment. Results: 71 of the 560 patients (12.7%) related dyspnea as cause of consultation, being the third cause of attendance in Emergency room after pain (126 patients, 22.5%) and fever (98 patients, 17.5%). The most common tumor´s location was lung in 38 of the 71 patients (53.52%), followed by colorectal cancer (11.3%) and breast (9.9%). 76.8% were advanced oncologic patients (stage IV). Diagnosis was respiratory infection in 19 patients (26.8 %) followed by malignant pleural bleeding (10 patients, 14.1%), disease progression (9 patients, 12.7%) and pulmonary embolism (5 patients, 7%). Dyspnea was a multifactorial symptom in 21 of the 71 patients (29.6%) without an etiological diagnosis. In 47 patients (66.2%) was required admission with a mortal evolution in more than 50%. Conclusions: In oncologic patients dyspnea is a frequent cause of consultation in Emergency room with high rates of morbility and mortality. It affects to patients´quality of life. When etiology is diagnosed the most common is respiratory infection. We should make an effort to offer the best supportive care. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

To date, essential oils still play an important role in various aspects of human life. Flowers are essential oil-producing plants that still need to be further explored, of which rose petals (Rosa hybrda L.) are an option for types of flowers that have the potential to produce economical essential oils. In this study, solvent-free microwave extraction (SFME) was used as an essential oil extraction method, which is considered safe because it does not use heat energy and chemical solvents which can be considered to trigger a decrease in the quality of the oil extract. The optimum microwave power in this study is 560 Watt with a yield of 0.0124%. The difference in the value of the feed intake ratio to the volume of the distiller (F/D) influences yield, where the F/D value of 0.15 g/mL gives the highest yield value of 0.0145%. The result of the Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) analysis shows rose flower essential oil extract provided a profile of 12 compounds, of which three dominant compounds are β-phenylethyl acetate, 2-isopropyl-5-methyl-9-methylene-bicyclo-1-decene, and nonadecane. Keywords: Extraction, rose flower petals, solvent-free microwave extraction (SFME), essential oils Hingga saat ini, minyak atsiri masih memegang peranan penting untuk berbagai aspek kehidupan manusia. 8031 Background: A phase I/II feasibility study was conducted to investigate the safety, tolerability and immunological response to vaccination with the telomerase peptide GV1001 (hTERT: 611–626) in combination with temozolomide (T). Methods: Twenty-five patients with malignant melanoma (15 stage M1c,10 stage M1b) received T day 1–5 every four weeks for 1–9 cycles. During the first cycle (4 weeks) they received i.d. injections of 560 μg GV1001 with local GM-CSF in week 2,3 and 4, followed by injections in week 6 and 7 in the second cycle and week 11 in the third cycle. The treatment period was 12 weeks (3 cycles). Booster vaccinations with 560 μg GV1001 were offered every third month. Monitoring of blood samples, clinical examination were performed regularly with radiological staging every 12th week. Immune responses were measured as DTH and in vitro T-cell proliferation. Results: The treatment was generally well tolerated with only grade 1–2 toxicity in most patients. Of 14 patients, 4 developed grade 3 toxicity and one grade 4 toxicity (neutropenia). Immune responses against GV1001 were detected in 17/21 patients (81%) at 12 weeks. Patients receiving up to 9 cycles of T exhibited stable proliferative responses to GV1001 throughout the treatment period. None of the patients had DTH response at trial entry and no DTH responses were observed in patients receiving T. This was not due to a shift in the cytokine profile since cloned GV1001-specific CD4+ T cells displayed a Th1 cytokine profile. Upon evaluation in week 12, 6 patients had SD, 10 PD. One patient had a PR with shrinkage or disappearance of multiple lung metastases. A patient continuing on vaccine alone developed significant DTH response when T therapy was stopped. Conclusions: Telomerase vaccination of patients receiving concomitant T treatment is feasible. The unexpected high proportion of patients showing an immune response indicates that regulatory T-cells may have been removed by T treatment. The chemotherapy may also have influenced effector cells required for development of skin reactions. In spite of lacking DTH response however, the majority of the patients demonstrated significant immune response indicating different regulation of DTH and T-cell response. In the first experiment the bm3 gene significantly increased the digestibility of the organic matter(OM), cell wall constituents (CWC), acid-detergent fibre (ADF), cellulose and hemicellulose from 76·9, 74·7, 67·3, 74·2 and 79·5% to 79·6, 79·2, 75·8, 80·8 and 81·5%. In the second experiment the gene increased the digestibility of the OM, CWC, ADF and cellulose from 65·9, 44·7, 28·5 and 38·7% to 701, 59·3, 560 and 66·1, 39·1,32·8, 40·4 and 45·5% to 68·1, 51·9, 53·7, 58·0 and 49·2%. The digestibility of the protein was similar for both diets. In a feeding trial 6-month-old calves were fed either normal or bm3 silage ad libitum together with 1·6 kg D.M. of a protein supplement. The dry-matter intake of the two silages was similar; however, the daily live-weight gain of 0·92 kg for calves fed the bm3 diet was significantly higher than the 0·83 kg for calves fed the normal diet.

This experimental study investigated the utility of a pitch-based carbon fiber–mortar composite, which could replace polyacrylonitrile carbon fiber, as a thin overlay for concrete pavement. The objective was to explore the utility of the low-cost carbon fiber, which was produced via a melt-blown method, i.e., blowing at high pressure after melting the pitch residue following crude oil purification. The mechanical properties, durability, and thermal properties of the pitch-based carbon fiber were explored to maximize strength, durability, functionality, and economy by using micro-sized fibers that are closer in size to the constituents of cementitious materials. Melt-blown pitch-based carbon fiber has low individual fiber strength but generally excellent thermal conductivity. Thermal conductivity tests were conducted on mortar panels (560 mm × 560 mm; thickness = 25, 40 or 60 mm) containing 0, 0.4, 0.5 or 0.6 wt % pitch-based carbon fiber. The absolute thermal conductivity tended to improve with higher wt % of pitch-based carbon fiber, in the range of 9~11 W/°C. However, thermal conductivity tended to be lower under the 0.6 wt % condition, possibly due to the effect of dispersion. Compressive strength degradation was tested over 350 cycles of freezing and thawing: the strength of the 0.4, 0.5 or 0.6 wt % samples was 91, 89, and 82%, respectively, relative to the control specimen (0 wt %). Thus, all specimens had a compressive strength of 80% or more after 350 cycles compared to the control specimen. To test the adhesion performance for new thin overlays and old concrete surfaces, concrete cylinders (100 × 200 mm; thickness = 10 mm) were cut at an angle of 46 degrees, and the pitch-based carbon fiber-mortar composite was used to bond the various sections. The bond strength of the test specimens was more than twice that of the reference specimen.
